Our first encounter was a pork butt purchase for a high school football fundraiser. The pork was outstanding; nice smoke ring, great flavor. I wanted more. The next three times were all takeout. We tried more pork, beef brisket, slaw, beans, muffins, queso and chips, etc. The brisket was a little dry but the pork was consistently good as were the slaw, beans and cheese muffins. The only thing we tried that wasn't to our liking was the creamed spinach; it had an off-taste. At this point, we were really excited about our new find and were telling friends and family about it. So we decided to go with family and eat at the restaurant... that's where the wheels came off the bus. We decided to sample more of the smoked meat selections so three of us ordered the ribs plus three meats platters. I also had heard (via a Yelp review) that the $3 margaritas were really good so we ordered those as well. The margaritas are $3 margaritas... in other words, you get what you pay for. More to the point, they are very sweet... too sweet for my taste. The platters came and the meats were covered in sauce and pickles of all things; totally different from the sauceless meats that come when you order takeout. What's weird is there are sauces on the table so why would the kitchen decide for you what sauce to use... makes no sense, and further, the sauce is not very good. The pork and brisket were virtually inedible because of the sauce and the vinegar from the pickles. The ribs were pretty good and someone at the table had ordered the catfish and that was good as well. To add to the disappointment, the service with spotty with glasses going unfilled and order mix-up's. The waiter also disappeared for a smoke break during the service and came back to the table wreaking of smoke. So get takeout and enjoy some pretty good chain BBQ.

If you like good barbeque and bad service, this is the place for you. Last time I was there, it was to pick up an order to go. Even though there were very few people in the place, it took them forever to fill the order. I placed it at the bar, as usual. Had the waitress asked if I wanted anything, I would have ordered a soft drink, but she was too lazy to even ask.

Jim 'n Nicks is our favorite restaurant in Cumming now. We have only been there about a dozen times, but every time has been excellent. Service has always been great (last night, the Beef Brisket on top of my BBQ Sandwich was a bit tough, the server noticed I did not eat it, ans without my mentioning it to him, he brought a comp dessert to us!

Saw on Yelp that this was a 4 star pick so I decided to take the family and brother-in-law. The atmosphere was nice for a barbeque joint. The food was good but not great. I had the pulled pork sandwich, slaw and baked beans. The BBQ was average, beans were too spicy and the slaw was average also, but the corn muffins were excellent. My wife ordered all-white chicken sandwich and got 70% white/30% dark. My oldest daughter is a picky eater and had the fries...hate If I didn't go to St. Louis alot, I probably would have had a more favorable rating of this place.

I have to say I was really disappointed by this burger. I am going to give them another try though since a patty melt is not usually considered a burger but it is technically. Also I couldn't resist the description's cheesiness (I am part mouse afterall). Fresh-ground, hand-pattied and hickory-grilled patty topped with queso cheese, fresh pico de gallo, grilled onions, serrano peppers, and served on sourdough. The bbq there smells so good I was drooling at the thought of a hickory grilled burger. Plus who can resist their slogan "you can smell our butts for miles." However the actual burger was more like a grilled cheese sandwich with a burger tucked inside. my next trip will be to try to the regular burger then I'll stick with the bbq after that.

Really good food. Took my sister-in-law here (she's from California) and I think Jim N Nicks convinced her to move to Georgia. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorites are the hot links and the brisket.

Overall ok place. Pulled pork can be a little fatty, but still tasty.

I visited the drive thru at the Avenue Jim 'N Nick's tonight for the first time and was absolutely impressed. The menu is extensive and the fact that they offer fresh pie makes my heart melt :) I ordered a number 1 pulled pork sandwich with french fries & an unsweet tea. My mom got the same except instead of fries she tried the potato salad & a slice of coconut pie. From the moment we arrived at the drive thru the service was impeccable and only got better when we approached the window. We were given our food and the smell of delcious bbq filled the entire car. It made me quite anxious to get home & try the food. I opened up the container & my eyes first came upon two pickles (which I love) so I ate them first. Not only were the to go portions huge I got half a container of fries alone & a sandwich full of stringy pork and a wonderfully unique bbq sauce. I really enjoyed my meal and would definitely go back. Next time I go back I'll opt for the cinnamon apples or mac & cheese instead of the fries though. And I will definitely not leave without a piece of pie!

WOW! Went to this restaurant Friday before the movies and truthfully didn't expect much...and IT WAS AWESOME! They prepare every thing fresh every day and it tasted that way. The service was good and they had great drink specials....don't fill up on the muffins...WOW are they good!!! And don't miss the deserts either:)

To be fair, I've eat here only once. Meh. My pork sandwich was a little small and the meat is a bit too rare for me. I did like that it was very lean; no fat at all. Fries were good. Good drink prices. Service was friendly but kept forgetting things for us over and over. Even both meals were delivered not as ordered. I'd rather go to Pig n Chick.

Best BBQ ever. The cheese bisquits are awesome and the catfish is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and go. I bet you will keep going back.

I have been here once and have been meaning to come back ever since, that was at least a year ago. The problem is that I rarely go out to eat. I have been craving the sweet little cheesy muffins ever since. I also keep thinking about the salad that I had with the cheddar crumbles in it that were so delicious. I would like to explore my way around the menu some day if I ever get around to it. I did get to eat their muffins a second time at a 5k event at the Avenue. They were better in person when fresh and not in a steamer in 28 degree weather to keep warm. I appreciate Jim 'n Nicks participating in races held there and providing snacks.

Great good....upscale BBQ with great veggies....muffins are excellent....serrvice is spotty at times, but they try to be a great restaurant.....highly recommend.....Southern chix salad is award winner.....the 1/2 chix plate is way too pricey...but other things are in line.

The only positive things I can say about Jim N' Nick's is that they had a 99 health rating and the food smelled great. I have no idea how it tasted because we never got a chance to order anything. We decided to try this place for the first time after catching a movie. They were busy, but we got a table as soon as we walked in. Then we waited... and waited... and waited. There were plenty of wait staff, food runners, even the manager swirling around our table, but NO ONE stopped to take our drink order, ask if we'd been waited on, or at least acknowledge we were there. Finally, after waiting almost 10 minutes, I was able to get the attention of a waitress as she ran by our table. I had to yell at her, twice! To her credit, after asking her to find our waitperson, she offered to get us drinks. My wife ordered a Bud Light draft, they were out. I ordered their "home brewed" draft special. They no longer served it! It was right there on the beer menu with a description of the special brew. That was when I decided there were too many things going wrong in this place to take a chance ordering food there. The manager tried to convince us to stay as we walked out the door, but I work too hard for my money to spend it on such poor service. They need to get their act together, but I'm not sure we'll be back to see.

Tried Jim N' Nicks twice recently. Got a take-out platter that I really wasn't too impressed with - not that tasty, small portions for a not-so-small price, and it just wasn't that great. The next week my work had a catered lunch by them and it was great -- go figure! The chicken was moist and well-cooked, sides were delicious, and spicy bbq sauce was perfect. Averaged the two experiences for a four-star rating. Looking forward to giving them a third try.

It's hard to go wrong here, pork, chicken, ribs, even the greek salad is good. I do wish they would bring back the chili though. The Kitchen Sink Nachos are soo much better with chili(HINT,HINT!) If your in the mood for a baked potato, they have that covered as well. I personally love the greek salad with smoked chicken. The staff is always friendly and attentive. They even have a vinegar sauce(have to ask for it though).

"Never too late to zip in a review," says I. Wife and I went there three times, and I forgot. Good thing someone suggested Jim 'N Nick's for lunch today, or my sexagenarian brain would have merrily skipped by my YELP! obligation to dish on the dishes of every place I eat. Harrummph- the review: Pulled pork sandwich on sourdough bread slices (you can have the HB buns if you must) was a delight. Not a very big portion, though. Juicy and tender, and you apply your own choice of one of three tabletop sauces, or be a heretic and mix them. Coleslaw was average, I added a little Splenda to take the edge off. The corn muffins were good, but kind of out of sync with the meal for me, at least. They would have been perfect with a veggie plate. My wife has had standing orders since the first time we went there:"Bring me home a slice of coconut cream pie if you go by there!" Yes ma'am! I did, she's happy, I'm happy.

The meal pretty much went downhill after the cornbread. I tried the ribs, but they just weren't that great... very tough and not enough meat. Had much higher hopes and won't be going back.

Been to Jim 'N Nick's 3 times over the past month. All for lunch. Every time I have had the same meal. BBQ Pork sandwich with a side of Onion Rings. The Pork is large pulled smokey moist chunks and the sauce is very good. The Rings are fresh, crispy and the homemade type. The service has always been on spot even during the busy lunch hour. It is not a discount bbq joint, but then neither is the food. This place deserves 4-5 stars. It is the real deal. Wouldn't keep going back if it wasn't.

This is the best Jim n Nick's location I've found. The food is consistent, and it's priced right. It's good chain barbecue. The service here is awesome. Our latest server was Jessie, and she really set the bar for any server around. She was quick, noticed the little details, and was proactive in seeing to our needs. We didn't have to ask for anything! We'll be back!

Yikes! All I can say is DON'T DO IT. I repeat DON'T DO IT. My hubby and I decided to try something new. The food tasted like it was cooked the week before, and they were trying to get rid of it. Our cheese muffins came out ice cold. No exaggerating here, they came right out of the fridge to our table. Our server had a feel and advised that they should be heated. The pulled pork sandwich was above average. The two sides to this meal were mac n cheese and French fries. The mac n cheese stayed in the form of the pan and was not warmed through. Definitely didn't taste like any thing your grandmother would make. The French fries seemed like the bottom dredges as none were larger than 1 1/2 inch. The beef brisket sandwich was dry and bland with absolutely no hickory/smoke/applewood or whatever they use flavor. I wished that we had gotten the fatty brisket that others have complained about because at least it would be moist. The only side chosen for this plate was coleslaw. It basically amounted to shredded cabbage with black pepper as no sauce was present. The only positives were the server, the beer, and donating money to a good cause with their feed the hungry promotion.

    (1)
  • Ashley S.

Spare ribs were a bit dry. I did enjoy the coleslaw. I wouldn't recommend watermelon as a side. It tasted a bit slimy, as if it had been cut hours before. I do, however, recommend the pie. I wouldn't object to eating here again, but it wouldn't be number 1 on my list.

Been to this location a few times over the years and the food was always incredibly portioned and flavourful. Tonight the baked potatoes were disappointingly small and with the new menu, the charge for meat on said potato is twice the price of the plan spud. I know it's a demanding economy but I miss J&N's potatoes the size of my head! That being said, our server Jason was incredible! I know having just one table on the patio section can lead to forgetting about them but he constantly checked on us and showed authentic interest in our conversation! He even took the time to shake our hands and get our names and listen to my suggestions for his future travels. Such a genuine guy!

  • Terin F.

Greasy food, fatty meat. To sum it up, disgusting. Maybe not, if you like puddles of grease on your plate and brisket that's 50% a slab of fat.

  • Doug B.

Took dad there last Sunday for Father's Day. Had the pig on a bun sandwich. Quite tasty. Mac is good, as it's very rich and decadent. Slaw was ok; I'd recommended they moisten it up more (I think it was mayo based). The baked beans were surprisingly good, only because I think a lot of places slide on sides, but to me, a good restaurant focuses on the entire meal. Cheese biscuits always good. Ribs were good, but not exactly fall off the bone?

    (4)
  • Todd R.

Went tonight to pick up dinner on the way home. Bought two chicken drum kids meals, one loaded baked potato, three lbs of spare ribs, one lb of brisket and a dozen biscuits. When I got home and opened the brisket it was the most fattiest gnarly brisket I've ever seen. Not at all what I've come to expect from them. There is no way this should have never left the kitchen.

I appreciate the drive thru option here. The BBQ is pretty good, but the convenience is through the roof. I love that I can grab a quality pulled pork sandwich on the run.

This was a major disappointment. We have been to other J&N's and had some great experiences. Specifically with the huge Spare Ribs. So my wife and I ordered them today. They were extremely sub par compared to what we've had in the past. The ribs were not flavorful or smokey. It didn't seem like they were left on the smoker for nearly enough time. In the past they were fall off the bone, seasoned, and not very saucy.. The good ribs we had were at the Smyrna location though, not this location. These ribs looked barely smoked (smoke rings almost non existent), and they were way too saucy. They were also tough and overall just not good. The sides were decent. Good Mac and cheese. Good biscuits. Other than that, huge thumbs down. Server was friendly. They just need someone who knows how to properly smoke meat in their kitchen in my opinion. Must be the "Sunday crew." Probably won't be back to this location.

I had been waiting for my visit to Jim N Nicks for over three years and it didn't disappoint. I had the double decker sandwich (pulled pork & brisket) a side of mac and cheese, peach sweet tea and took home a slice of chocolate fudge pie. I don't come to the South often so I carefully chose the Southern comfort food experience. This time I brought my mom and she too was impressed. She lives nearby but had no idea this place existed. No doubt she will be visiting again in the near future. I've tried a few local BBQ joints and while I give them all two thumbs up, Jim N Nicks is by far my favorite.

Never had a bad meal here! Friendly service, great brisket and pork, BEST mac and cheese ever-even better than my mom's. Love the drive through service. Having access to drive through mac and cheese is a good thing. My dad says they have the best catfish-he's a catfish eating expert, so it must be pretty darn good. Can't believe of all the BBQ places I've been and my favorite is a chain! Ah well, it's great. Not too smoky, not too bitter, not fatty or burnt, not dried out or funky. It's just right.

Cheese muffins- awesome Everything else was disappointing. This was our first visit in a while, they have changed the menu to a color and font that's impossible to read in their low light. After waving our phones over the menu we COULD tell that prices have dramatically increased since our last visit. Had to practically beg for bread and drinks. Placed our order, still waiting on bread. Flag down a passing waiter and ask him for bread, he just kind of looks at us like "how dare you? I'm not your server" . Honestly, a real jerk. And he never brought us bread, but did manage to shoot dirty looks at us every time he walked by.. Sat for 20 more minutes with no bread and needing drink refills. Flag down another server (ours had disappeared after bringing 1st round of cokes). Beg him for bread. Never happened. Yet another new person brings us food and we ask for drink refills (I had given up on bread at this point). Our original server comes by shortly afterwards and I beg HER for bread and drink refills which she promptly delivers. TWO muffins, seriously we got TWO muffins. It would've been easier to understand had there not been so many employees standing around chatting. The hostess was at her station and there was another woman who obviously worked there walking around looking at tables and straightening chairs. Surely she could fetch some drinks?? You really disappointed us , Jim-n-Nicks.

This was our first at Jim and nicks cumming location. The food quality was below average for all meals. Kids meals were better than the adult portions I ordered two street tacos with greans. I will attach the pic for your amusement Taco Bell has you beet in qualiy and price.

I had the beef brisket at a friend's house -- she had it catered in. It was really juicy and delicious, not dry like brisket can so easily be. Their sauce was also exceptionally balanced between sweet, sharp, and spice.

  • Priscilla S.

I ordered baby back ribs. I was served large ribs with almost no meat. Lots of greasy fat. Extremely disappointing. My husband pulled pork sandwich was only OK. The sides were not good. What a waste of time and money. We won't go back.

This location is slow and the meat is not cooked well. The drive thru sucks major azz! I have been the only person in line and it was still slower than ten cars in line. The cashiers seem slightly off sometimes. The food does not compare to the original jim and nicks off Oxmoor rd in Bham. The prices are better in Bham too. I hate to sound like a b with an itch but I have given this place over six tries and my stomach gets upset after each meal and I get a sandwich with jelly fat inside the meat.Yuck! I may need to just get back to juicing and stay away from this place.

Barbeque was awesome! Cheese biscuits, smoked wings, and sweet tea. Wife had Mac and cheese and fried green tomatoes. Our waitress was named Penelope and she was the best.

  • Blanca C.

I would never come here again. I ordered the fried shrimp plate and the shrimp wasn't fried very well at all, the mashed potatoes were way to dry, the only good thing was the fruit and the cheese muffins. The price is way to expensive for the amount of food you get. My husband got the 2 pound spare ribs and they were overly salty.

The chicken is good! My favorite was the Mac and cheese and corn bread cheese biscuits!!

NEW menu items worth a visit. Tuesday Tacos with a side were fantastic! Fresh and zesty melt in your mouth good...you may want to order a double! Garden salad topped with real crispy bacon and homemade blue cheese dressing was a tasty surprise. Biscuits? Oh yeah...delicious.

Seriously folks ---- please open one of these in Tampa! Having lived in Pelham, AL less than 10 minutes to a Jim N Nicks in Hoover, I forgot how good of a place this was to eat . Was in Atlanta for a week and ate here 3 times! And if you go, please save room for the PIE...if no room, then buy a piece to take home! This is the Gold Standard in BBQ!

I actually had a critical mind of this place going into it. See I'm a BBQ snob and I expect chain BBQ to underdeliver. So expecting Jim to underdeliver, he actually delivered. Now he gets so many plus and negative stars in doing so though.... left me feeling a bit bi-polar. I opted for the half chcken, which was tender and fell apart as I cut it, 4 stars. looses a half star each for having rubbery type skin (the cooking process? dunno) and for putting BBQ sauce on the meat prior to delivering (not cooked in, just slopped on in a really wierd hap hazzard fashion) -And what's with topping each of the chicken parts with a sliced straight out of the jar dill pickle? So confusing. The french fries were fantastic. The rest of the sides were meh. The final blow to falling short of a four star.... the banana pudding was meh. So there you have it, Meh.

One of the best chain barbeque / southern cooking restaurants I've ever been to. They have a little bit of everything for everyone and can accommodate those who aren't into barbeque or southern style foods. Solid offerings in each course and a fun country barn atmosphere to enjoy it in. Restaurant has a large seating area with a section that can be used for private events. The bar has seating as well and handles an after work or late night crowd as well. Decent semi-wrapping patio for enjoying the nicer climate days. Place is always busy. I am a big-time fan of the menu here at J'NN and its a hit with all my friends and colleagues as well. Things to try I highly recommend: * The cheese muffins here are insanely addictive! Unlimited hot and fresh baskets of the yummy goodness all meal long * Kitchen sink pork nachos. Holy smoke these are good! Some people even have as their meal * Barbeque Bakers, otherwise know as stuffed baked potatoes. The Pig in Patch is the fully loaded pork, but the brisket and turkey ones are good as well. Massive but can be halved as a side for an upcharge * Love the collard greens, course I was raised to appreciate them. (Note that most veggies here come with meat) * Love their Pork and Brisket, not so much the chicken and turkey * I often come here for the Catfish. Prepared southern style and almost NO grease. Exceptional and hard to find correctly prepared * They have a unique assortment of sandwiches that basically sandwich barbeque into interesting variants, but try the pimento cheese. Quite good! The have a full bar here and and true Southern Sweet Tea and Lemonade. This wont necessarily win best in show at a serious barbeque festival, but as a barbeque chain you'll be hard pressed to find a Southern experience any better stereotyped!

I've been to Jim n Nicks on several occasions and was never disappointed. This time I decided to try their baby back ribs. I went with the large portion that came in at $25 with two sides. Very disappointed in the ribs and the side portions were very small considering the cost. The ribs were very dry and had very little flavor. I had to use the house BBQ sauce to give them flavor and soften them up. It may be that my expectations were high because I have not been disappointed here before. However, their reputation for good BBQ didn't come through this time.

WORST BBQ WITH MOST REDICULOUS PRICE! This restaurant must be for yuppies that are used to over paying and have never had REAL bbq in their lives... my bbq sandwich had a bone the size of a giant gumball in it as well as squishy fat! They obviously don't know how to pull pork! The sauce tastes like it came from a plastic bottle from a factory. I had to ask for SWEET tea 3 times after being served unsweetened tea... the macaroni and cheese definitely came from a frozen box. I don't know how ANY of you guys think this place deserves any stars! I wish I could give it negative stars. How can you charge $10 for a bbq sandwich in the first place? Especially when the majority of it is lard and bones! Most discusting restaurant I've been. Yuck!!!!!

    (1)
  • Natasha H.

I absolutely love the garden salad with the pulled pork!! I get it at least once a week. If I'm being greedy, I'll get the side of collard greens and they are great too!!! The drive through is quick and the folks are polite!

Decent place for BBQ. Nothing stellar but good chain BBQ. I never really get how they price of slow cooked meat is so high but whatever. Been there 3-4 times always consistent and good service

08/24/2013 update. I have to bump this up one star because I really like Jim-n-Nicks even though they are a chain. J&N are the exception rather than the norm that plagues chain restaurants. I classify J&N as a chain because they have multiple locations. This review is just for the pulled pork sandwich and not the restaurant itself. I like Jim and Nick's. It's a well-run establishment with good eats. Today is Taco Tuesdays but I decided to do the pulled pork sandwich on sourdough and fries instead. For me, the standard bearer is the porkzilla sandwich at Smokejack in Alpharetta. I hate to say in a Jim and Nick's review but the porkzilla has Jim and Nick's beat by a long shot. Jim and Nick's pulled pork is considerably drier and not near as tender. Maybe that's the way it's mean't to be. Nevertheless I am a fan of Jim and Nick's and will be back. But I doubt I'll be doing the pull pork sandwich any time soon. Two stars for the pulled pork sandwich but five stars for Jim and Nick's and it's other menu items.

Returning is key and couldn't wait to get back in neighborhood. No leftover taste on the barbecue pulled pork, great ribs, and sides. The seating design is perfect for any type of party. FIVE stars for QUE. They would rather run out then serve reheated.

    (5)
  • Mike M.

My criteria for 5 stars is not based on price or gourmet food that people eat just to make themselves look intelligent. No, it is based on basics. Service, presentation, taste, menu, environment. Meet those things and you score big in my book. So Jim and Nick's is not exactly the type of place I would typically give 5 stars. They are a small southern chain. I am not crazy about any chains. These guys made it happen. Our waiter was great. He was attentive and quick. He even poked me a little on my Phillies gear as we came from the stadium after seeing my team get swept. They had a great selection of beers on tap with old school faves like PBR to micro brews. The prices were even comparable to soda. The apps looked good but we skipped them and went right to the main course especially given the fact that they gave us a tasty basket of cheesy corn muffins to start with. I got the special of the day which was a baked boneless skinless chicken breast breaded and fried and covered with country gravy. My sides were fresh fruit of the day and Mac and cheese. My wife ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries. The chicken was perfect. It was crunchy on the outside, exploding with juiciness and flavor inside. The country style gravy was also tasty and complemented the chicken quite well. The fresh fruit of the day was watermelon. The Mac and cheese was great. It was your standard southern mac style. Really good.. The pulled pork sandwich, my wife ordered, was not overly saucy. The fries were perfect homemade style. The portion was huge. The waiter regularly checked the drinks. The bill arrived in a timely manner. My only complaint is that they haven't expanded above the Mason/Dixon line. This place would do well in the North.

  • Clint K.

Not impressed at all, the brisket was like mush and the Carolina pork was dry. I didn't think you could dry out pork that much. The sauces where good and the sides ok. It is also very expensive, $18.00 for two meats and two sides.

Had only moved to the area a few days before finding this place. My husband had been looking for a BBQ place and we stumbled upon this yummy restaurant. Food and service was outstanding. Can't wait to go back again.

Update: Wrote about my drive through experience to Jim N Nick's via their comment website. Jim N Nick's corporate managers immediately read my complaint and replied back for me to give them another try at their expense. I am impressed! I know house salads generally have cold cuts of meat like chicken, tuna, and ham salads but I was not expecting the pork to be served in a compressed form! I will update a review when I return to the restaurant later. *Jim N Nicks corporate does not know that I posted this review on Yelp. The review was written only to mention the customer service they are offering regarding my bad experience.

Used to like this place but a few bad experiences have changed my mind. The practice of taking ones order and having the delivery of ones food subcontracted out to another employee who doesn't know who is supposed to get what is annoying. 7 out of 8 folks at my table ordered a salad of some sort. The food delivery chap then asked " who had the salad?". Really? Tried the much recommended Ribeye. When the order took twenty plus minutes I was already nervous. The steak was lukewarm to cold and very stringy. The chef/cook came out and offered me some free desert. Wow. A foodservice slice of pie to make up for a $19 entree? When I declined the offer, he said he would "buy" the steak; but not the adult beverage I had. Nothing says customer service like negotiating about an awful meal experience.

We were regular diners at Jim n Nick's until today. We would sometimes bring our ultra calm and friendly Golden Retriever on the patio with other dog owners. However, today's manager decided they were doing too well to allow such preposterous patrons and he told us we were not welcome. We went across the street to Mellow Mushroom who rolled out the red carpet. They even provided a huge dog water bowl without any requests. We had a great meal on their patio and won't be going back to Jim n Nick's. The BBQ was good but when did it become so up scale they had to ban well mannered and clean dogs from the porch? Go figure.

Don't expect anything special. If it was cheaper I may go back but the only thing worth eating was the pulled pork. It was tender, not a lot of flavor but the BBQ sauce helped a bit for taste. Sides sucked. Mac and cheese. Meh. Mashed potatoes. Meh. Creamed spinach extra meh. Cinnamon apples were ok, but really how do you *uck those up? The pie is in the meh category too. Just know you can get the same food other places, cheaper, tastier, or both.

Went here with a very large group of people and enjoyed it. The food was really good and the atmosphere was cool. I'm sure if I had been when it wasn't so busy, my service would have been better. But, it felt like our waitress took a lottttt of time just to get us waters or simple things like napkins. (I won't hold it against her though, we were a large group and it was a weekend!) overall, it was a great experience.

I was taken to this place for lunch one day and I have to say it's pretty damn good for chain bbq. The corn muffins were tasty, to the point that I was sopping up sauce off my plate with em. For lunch I had the baked potato with bbq beef on it (forget the name it was called on the menu) and it was massive. That was the lunch one too, they serve a bigger one for dinner I guess. The habanero bbq sauce was great, nice and hot. I like my food spicy. I know theres better bbq in Georgia, but I still highly recommend this. Service was A+ btw. They acted like they cared, even if they didnt lol.

Let's face it: barbecue is like religion around here, and devotees are as particular about method, sauce, and service as Protestants are about whether to forgive "debts" or "trespasses." So when evaluating a BBQ place, it's often like having a religious argument about which is "better" between Lutherans and Methodists: some folks are just gonna disagree no matter what you say. What I can say, religious arguments aside, is that Jim 'N Nick's has pretty good food. Jim 'N Nick's is a small chain, and so there's the pluses and minuses that go with it. The atmosphere is clean and pleasant and the service has always ranged from good to excellent. Barbecue places are expensive, of course, but Jim 'N Nicks isn't too outrageously priced-- expect to pay $20-25 per person for your dinner. Jim 'N Nicks also makes almost everything from scratch, from their cheddar muffins to salad dressings. And as always, it's the little attention to detail that makes a good place great. For example, they have thick-cut smoked bacon pieces they put on their salads. It's a small thing, but it makes a difference. Some people prefer traditional sides over barbecued meat--your Brunswick Stew, Cole Slaw, Mac 'n' Cheese, Baked Beans, etc. These often degenerate into religious arguments as well. My dining companion loves Brunswick Stew, and finds Jim 'n Nicks' version "okay" but not her favorite. But she loves their Fried Green Tomatoes and collards. So, I feel confident saying the sides are generally good, though your mileage may vary. But what about the barbecue? It's good. Offering pulled pork, chicken, turkey, ham, brisket, ribs, and sausages, there should be something for everyone, meat-wise. I particularly like their turkey, which you don't see other places. Their sausages are also house-made, having won some awards somewhere. I like them--they're a bit sweet and spicy--but more than 1 link is too rich for me. My dining companion likes the brisket a lot. But the true test of a barbecue place comes in two places: the pulled pork and the sauce. Jim 'N Nick's pork has always been well-cooked-- moist and well-trimmed of fat and gristle. I find the taste of the meat itself to be a little bland, which is why the sauce is important. They use a thin tomato-based sauce which has a good mix of sweet and sour and spicy. (They have a hotter version on the table for those who like the heat.) It doesn't blow me away, but it's good. And ultimately, this is what I can say about Jim 'N Nicks: it doesn't blow me away, but it's good. The food is almost always good when I go there, so I feel its worth my money. It's a solid dining experience when you're in the mood for barbecue, better food, service, and ambiance than some other places around here. But in terms of barbecue religions, Jim 'N Nick's is not the messiah. Call me an agnostic for now.

Our waiter Daniel was great, our service in general was perfect, and we even had a stop by our table by Chris, who was a manager. It was our first time and will not be a last. I have been to a few Bar b Q places since we moved to Georgia last August. We never left any of them saying they were better than our own at home.Well Jim and Nicks, you are good second best :) The rest of the menu looked good and my wife had the chicken sandwhich which was excellent. Food is better than Chain Quality.

Friends and family had told us about this place but it's a long way from home so we hadn't gotten there till now. It's a bit more "upscale" than the average BBQ "joint" I'm used to - but the prices don't reflect it. Service is EXCELLENT and they bring out a basket of cheddar rolls that are hot and incredible. The pulled pork was good - tender with an excellent smoky flavor. Not quite as moist and tender as pig-n-chick but very-very good. Hot or sweet tomato based sauce is very good. The sides (at least the ones we had) were the real stars. Fried Green Tomatoes were naturally tart with a slight taste of vinegar, breaded with corn meal that actually stuck. Best I've had in a while. Collard greens didn't have too much stem, were tender and had almost more pork in them than greens yet weren't greasy. The only down side was the bun. You can get a pork sandwich on different breads - I was a traditionalist and chose a "plain bun" - but I felt it was either a bit stale or it had been toasted to the point of drying it out a bit. But that was a very minor drawback. Overall the experience was excellent.

I realky enjoy the food and atmosphere here. But the service can be rather hit and miss. Tonight, long waits for drink refills, multiple requests for biscuits before they actually served them. Last time I was here the waitress literally forgot us and disappeared for half an hour before I gave up, threw some money on the table, and left. Tonight, the final rug pull was when our credit card statement was swapped with another table.

This is BBQ when it's dropped in a suburban retail chain outlet mall parking lot. Upon entering the establishment, you notice that it's bright. Like, really bright. And I went on a cloudy, semi-rainy Saturday for lunch. Bar is on the left -- laid out like someone remembered at the last minute that there should be a place for the adults to drink away from the kiddie tables. Bar right up on the wall with the requisite plasma/LCD TV showing some sporting event. I think part of the brightness here is the choice of wood -- it's like the light colored birch veneer stain you get with IKEA shelving. Just seems sorta out of place in BBQ joint. Seating area for less alcoholic patrons is to the right. There are step-up booths ringing the dining area with tables in the middle of the space. In the front of the restaurant, there's a separated, somewhat darker area to sit, I think, unless it was just darker outside than in the restaurant. I sat down in a booth with my wife to have some lunch. The menu was 2 pages, pretty straightforward. Pulled pork, chicken, brisket, turkey and some sausage items. My wife ordered the vegetable plate for reasons I didn't understand -- it's a BBQ joint. I opted for the double-decker (pulled pork and beef brisket double decker) sandwich. While we waited, we were brought cheese biscuits/muffins. Three of them. In a tiny little plate. I ate one and felt like I was pilfering off the Jason's Deli salad bar. Despite them being advertised as cheese whatevers, they tasted just like the jalepeno muffins from Jason's Deli. Our food came out shortly after we ordered. I was pleased with the speed of the service until I saw what we got. My wife's vegetable plate was 4 little bowls of whatever the ice cream scoop-ready fixin's in the kitchen were for the day. She enjoyed the collard greens and potato salad. Not so much the creamed spinach. I can't even remember the other thing she ordered. She seemed to like her food. I, on the other hand, was presented with a double-decker BBQ sandwich, as described, that looked like it had been slapped together at a country church bazaar/cookout. It was a trio of 3 semi-smooshed buns leaning over, piled with a few ounces of both kinds of meat as described. The pulled pork on top was as I expected at a place like this -- drier than burnt toast and in desperate need of some sauce. The brisket was marginally better, with a good smoke flavor overwhelmed by the 3 juiciest, drippin'-est dill pickle slices I'd ever seen. I immediately grabbed the house-brand habanero BBQ sauce at the table and sauced up both floors of the sandwich. It didn't help. This was bread bread bread with little or no flavor except the heat from the BBQ sauce. The fresh cut fries were good, although they were weirdly sticking to each other like they'd been sitting for a while. I chose to dunk them in some Ranch dressing which my wife felt was homemade. I can neither confirm nor deny that. The meal complete, I pondered the actual restaurant experience. First and foremost, it didn't feel like a real BBQ joint to me. Too bright. Too many tables full of noisy kids playing and eating and annoying their parents. Not homey or warm enough to convey that sense that you're in a place where the flesh of animals is skewered and cooked at speeds even cavemen would find tedious. In a word, it felt suburban. For comparison's sake, I like Pig & Chik BBQ like the one on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near the old Great Gatsby's auction house. It's a dive. It has stereotypical red and white checkered vinyl tablecloths with an age to them, and you know that while the BBQ will be dry and plain, the sauces at the tables will have enough kick and variety to make it worth your while. Smokey Bones in Marietta is another example -- yeah, it feels like a chain (dying, since the one in Dunwoody is gone), but it's a friggin' log cabin, not too brightly lit, with enough sports on TVs to make you feel like you're gonna get some country eatin' during a ballgame. The BBQ is sauced up good and almost overdone, but at least it has some flavor. I'm not sure I'd go back. My wife hyped this place up, but it didn't thrill me. Plus, I lost my sunglasses, so I have nothing to shield me from the white bright light of BBQ meh.

Fantastic food and service. Jim 'N Nicks is a favorite stop for work lunches and after church family time. The cornbread muffins are fantastic and are worth the trip here on their own. My favorite dish is the catfish. I have never experienced breading quite like it. I am in love with this place and promise you won't be disappointed.

The cheese muffins are OUTSTANDING....So why 2 stars....Because I've tried this place three times to be fair and its just not that good. The sad truth is BBQ is not easy and ribs are the most difficult and Jin N Nick make ribs with a nice smoke flavor, tender but lack the complexity and char of truly well cooked BBQ. The sauce is watery and is light on flavor. The collards were a complete and utter failure from the start. Here's a hint....cut the leaves off the stalk then fold or role them horizontally and cut them. You will retain the texture without the big stems. Beyond that can anybody find seasonings in the kitchen? Crushed red, jalapeno, a dash of seasoning salt and some onion powder would work wonders. Friendly staff and the muffins make it tolerable. Hey some body has to eat it.......

For some reason, I always forget to "check in" while I am here and I actually come here quite a lot. Perhaps a new "dukedom" is around the corner? Anyways, I usually come here about once a weekend to chow down on some pulled pork, slaw, and stew. The folks are always friendly and the food is usually right on the money. The slaw here is a homerun, with a wonderful balance of spicy and sweet. I do not know what they put in the slaw, it may just be copious amounts of pepper, but it is phenomenal. The pork itself is hit or miss, with it mostly being a hit. There have been a few occasions where I got some dried out pork, but more often than not, it is fresh and delicious. The stew is probably my least favorite thing, but it is still good enough to make me order it every time I am here. It just seems to lack and true depth, but perhaps I could add a little hot sauce and salt to enhance the flavor profile. I will be doing this on my next visit. All in all, I really wanted to give this place 3.5 stars, but I am feeling generous today and the breakdown below does not lie... Food - 3/5 Portion - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Cleanliness - 4/5

My second experience there was much better than my first. I went to lunch with my hubby and son and had a great experience. The waiter was fast, friendly and obviously knew a thing or two about having a child. Not once did he set something hot or non-kid friendly in front of Mr Grabby, and he even brought out the mac and cheese first so that he could start on his meal before we got ours. We both had the pulled pork sandwich which came out of the kitchen very quickly. The fries were hot and delicious, the sandwich was nothing to rave about, but it was good. The cheese biscuits/muffins were delicious, and I ate far too many! I'd probably return again, but wouldn't go out of my way to chose this place.

People I know in Smyrna rave about this joint, and now I can see why, it caters to the chain lover. Looks like a chain, and tastes like a chain, nothing great here. Service is good but the food is meh, hence the rating. Not exactly stunning barbecue. Beef Brisket sandwich was nothing to write home about, collard greens were allright. I just don't see the draw when there are so many quality ,small, hand crafted BBQ joints in this state. If you don't crave adventure and/or value what a chain has to offer, this would be good for you. Personally it just fell way short of what I would consider "Fine swine dining".

Wow. How the mighty have fallen. The first time I came here, I loved it. The second time I came here, I liked it. This time, I hated it. I took the monsters there this afternoon (5:30pm) for dinner after a very busy day. We ordered non-difficult fare. I ordered the roasted BBQ chicken, greens and baked beans. The monsters got (1) a burger with mac & cheese, (2) chicken fingers and (3) riblet appetizer. Our waiter was unbelievably slow. He was a kind gentleman, but creakingly slow. I mean s l o o o w w w w....... I suppose I shouldn't complain, because after all, he did have one table - ours. And, to be fair, as we were finishing our meal, his workload doubled - with a second table. Now for the food: The chicken was dry and tough. I don't know how you do that with roasted BBQ chicken, but they've figured it out. The greens were good but the jar of pepper sauce was dead empty, and after asking twice for a new one (never to my waiter because he disappeared), I went to the closest empty and grabbed one. The beans were cold but I probably wouldn't have eaten them anyway. The boys enjoyed their food - but they're young, so they would have enjoyed corn flakes. Our waiter never bothered to ask us how everything was, so I never had the opportunity to tell him. Since he never bothered to ask, he also cost this place the opportunity to sell us 4 pieces of pie, since they create awesome pies there. He never asked. In fact, he saw that we were finished, and brought "the check" with a tray full of drinks for the other table. You might think that the check he gave me was something I would pay, but you would be wrong. I got his schedule. I was delighted to know what hours he was working, but it really was the wrong information, at the wrong time. My boys just wanted out. They were tired of waiting, and I know I'm sounding really crabby - but we waited 20 minutes AFTER the last fork was put down - to find out that Johnny Efficient was working tomorrow 10-4. Try that with 3 boys under 11 that had been running around all day long... Once we did get the check, I left the money on the table, and we all walked out the door - past him, and past the manager of the place - and not a single soul acknowledged us. It's sad. The place has cool ambience, but it just solidifies my feelings about big chain restaurants. With very few exceptions, they just don't give a shit. I, for one, have had my last cheddar biscuit at Jim & Nicks.

Went on a Friday and was seated quickly but took a very very long tome to be served. BBQ pork sandwich was excellent (I got the double). Collards were good, buy the side was small. BBQ sauce tasted exactly like Arby's sauce. Great location and atmosphere gets A+.

cheddar corn biscuits....wow....$3 jack and cokes too! Server messed up and gave me Catfish instead of fish tacos, too bad...Catfish was still good, corn breaded, its been awhile since I've had really good fried fish. I'm really glad that there is another good BBQ place sorta close to me, I'm a big fan of Williams brothers. My buddy had Ribs and they about fell off, very good sauce. I really want to come here again. Mac and cheese is awesome home made cheese sauce

I went to a birthday party (approximately 30 people or so) catered by this Jim 'N Nick's location. The BBQ was good. Items offered included pulled BBQ pork, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, BBQ baked beans, and cheese biscuits. Good delivery and setup and the food was kept warm with sterno. I've also eaten at the location in Smyrna. Same quality.

After hearing so many good reviews, I had to give this place a try while hanging in Cumming for a week. Even though I am not a fan of vinegar-based bbq, I wanted to give it a try. The first time I went there I was going to give 5 stars. I had their Pulled Pork sandwich with the Baked Beans and Creamed Spinach. The spinach simply had an overdose of cream. But the pulled pork sandwich was quite good and those were some of the best baked beans I've ever had. I love their sweetness yet that have that little bit of spice in them that burns your lips and gums just an itty bit. I would love the recipe to just those! The second time I went, I got an appetizer. I got the Smoked Pork Hot Links with the pimento cheese sauce and it was quite tasty. I came in hungry, thinking I would have an appetizer then order a meal and have leftovers for another meal or two for take home, but surprisingly, those 2 links filled me up. The third time I got the Rib & Meat Combo. I was quite disappointed. First off, the service the first night was terrific, the second night was nothing to jump up and down about and the third night was not good. As far as the food, I was disappointed in the pork as it was awful dry and the ribs barely tasted like there was no bbq sauce on them (maybe that is the 'side effect' of vinegar based sauce?). I had the beans as I knew if everything was bad, they would save the meal, and they did exactly that as their coleslaw is KFC grade. Like everyone else, I loved the cheddar corn biscuits each time and if it wasn't for them, it would have been hard to keep that third star up. I see it as a little pricey considering what you get. I won't be going out of my way to get here again anytime son, but if I am in the area again at meal time and/or passing one of the other locations (I noticed all of ATL's other Jim N' Nicks locations have better reviews), I would stop by and try some more of the dishes on the menu as I patiently wait for a good bbq place in Alpharetta.

My wife and I had been wanting to go here for a while. The waitress was very nice and helpful. She helped us identify the Gluten Free items on the menu ,but it was a while since she had told anyone else what they were so it made us nervous but she got it right! The manager came over to make sure we ordered the right items. This was a very nice touch and we wished they would have had a gluten free menu. He did indicate we was not familair with Celiac so here is a great website. celiac.org for those curious. The food came and my wife liked the pulled pork, fries and cinnamon apples. I thought the pulled pork was ok not bad. Hate pickles on top of anything, wished they were on the side. We may give it one more try to see if the ribs are the better option but at this point I rate it 3 stars. -1 star no gluten free menu 1 star for service and caring attitude 1 star for taste of pork and sides 1 star for awesome cheesbread (not gluten free) The other star, I will add based on how good the ribs are. Something smelled awesome in there, I just think we did not order it or eat it. It was ok.

This review is for people who aren't BBQ fans, but who go along with their friends who are. Honestly, BBQ is okay with me, but I don't recall ever, not once in my life, having craved it. We had a party of eight and were seated in a room by ourselves. I guess we looked like that type of rowdy, professional group that comes in for birthday lunches. We all took note of the sign that promoted banquets, parties, and rehearsal dinners that the room could accommodate. Maybe it was a marketing ploy to put us in the room so that we could fully envision the magic atmosphere of the room. We'll see how their ploy worked if one of us remembers the party room the next time we plan a "banquet." Okay, on to the good stuff. We ordered the smoked pork hot links for the table. Absolutely fantastic, but it has to be eaten correctly. First the saltine, then the pimento spread, then a slice of link, then a slice of pepper, then sauce. Plus, you gotta take it in one bite. You can do it! I liked the pimento spread from the app, so I ordered the pimento cheese sandwich with cole slaw, and a bowl of chili. The sandwich was fantastic. The cole slaw sucked. And the chili was hearty. It was a great meal for a cold day. The pimento cheese is kinda chunky, but not overbearing at all. It had a smooth, creamy texture, with just the right balance of cheese and pimento flavor. A few of our napkins were dirty when we unfolded them. They were replaced quickly. But I'll check my napkin and silverware every time I go now. Oh, and those evil, EVIL cheesy corn muffins. I can't believe I almost forgot to mention them. Don't be fooled by their cuteness. They will pry their way into your psyche and arrest your taste buds. And you will gladly post the bond of eating more, stealing the last one from the basket, stuffing them into your to-go box, or even into a paper napkin and stuffing them in your purse or murse, whichever. They must be laced with crack. They beckon to me even now.

When they first opened I was a frequent customer. Best ribs in town and pretty much best in everything. I went back to them twice over the last 6 months and their ribs were not the same. I inquired and was told they changed their rib spice/recipe. It is way too salty. Around Xmas 2012 my family from out of town also agreed how salty all their food and ribs were. Wont be going back - prefer Rib Ranch and drive to them regularly all the way from Cumming.

Never again! I will never again come to this location. The service was unforgivably bad. We had a group of 12 that showed up to eat. Going into this meal we were fully prepared for an extra wait to be seated/to be waited on/to receive our food. These are things that one expects to encounter when dining with a large group. This was NOT what we received. It took over 40+ minutes to be seated. An extra 20+ minutes over the quoted wait time. (Again, something our group was sort of expecting...but this added to our ire.) Our drink order was taken in the proper time. (Most restaurants try to have your initial drink order taken between 30 seconds to 2 minutes within you being seated) so far so good, then... It took over an hour to receive our food. But even before our lengthy wait, our server magically disappeared. While I understand that this was during a rush, I should not have to go to the bar and get refills for my table! I'm not sure whether to blame the server, who spent more time chatting with the people in the dish pit (when you have an open kitchen, customers can see and hear what you are doing) OR if this was incompetent management. The manager never once came to look in on our table. Usually, the biggest party in the restaurant gets looked in on from time to time. I mention the manager for multiple reasons... With such a large group, why assign only one server for the table?? Hell, just getting servers with "empty hands" coming out of the kitchen can help...instead of having one server (who was not assigned to our table) make multiple trips to and from the table all while auctioning off our food. (i.e.-"Which one of you had the pulled pork?") Yes, our food got cold. Wait for our check was a pain as well! As previously mentioned, the server had long conversation with the dish pit everytime she went into the back of the house! In other words, it took 15+ minutes for me to get a box for my food. (Took longer to get my check) The ONLY reason why I will still patronize Jim N' Nick's is because the food is good. I will NOT eat at this location again, however.

BBQ hankering? Pulled pork was excellent and their sides are great. I also had the creamed spinach and it was just creamy good. The menu selection had our party selecting a little something different from each other and there were no complaints. Definitely worth a try if you love bbq and southern cooking.

Almost 5 Stars! Just fantastic for the price. Had the Country Club sammich and a couple Margaritas, wife had the taco's and the kids had mac n' cheese. Also split a lemon and banana pie for desert. All were great. Pie was a tad sweet, but that's my only complaint. Great food, very reasonably priced and a nice atmosphere. What else could you ask for? One of my favorites in the area...

My wife and I went for an early (6:30pm) dinner as our daughters were at a school function. We were seated quickly, got menus and drink orders right away. Both of us had pulled pork and the fried green tomato side dish. I got the plate while my wife had a sandwich. Portions are quite large. My french fries covered half the plate, and the wife got to eat half of them. The pork is well-cooked, although the sauce is a bit too vinegary for my taste. The fried green tomatoes were really good, with my only complaint being that the thin crust (cornmeal and some pepper) didn't stick to the slices. I'm not a big fan of the cheese biscuits; too soft and doughy, but the rest of the family likes them. My wife had been here before and had the brisket, which she liked.

This place is a trip. We walked in on a weekday, lunch hour. Was told there'd be a 10 minute wait. We stood, staring at the 12 or so empty tables for that ten minutes. Finally got seated at one of those heavenly looking empty tables we stared at all that time. About five minutes later, our waiter arrives. Pleasant, older guy with some type of European accent. My two friends order grilled chicken and brisket. I order a pork sandwich. I kid you not - my sandwich was the size of a Jr cheeseburger at a fast food joint. Look at the pic someone attached to this review - it is accurate and that's what your bbq sandwich will look like, minus the double decker thing going on in that photo. The taste was ok - definitely nothing special. My friend's brisket looked good but upon tasting was dry and very bland. My other friend's chicken looked the best of our entrees. I did not taste it, but he said it was good. He ain't real picky. My meal, which consisted of the "mini sandwich" and a small serving of crusty, greasy fries came to $11 - with water to drink. This is where you take your business associate if you want a long time to talk and you aren't really hungry. You can watch all the hip people order up their scant entrees and laugh at all the folks waiting to be seated while a dozen or so empty tables sit quietly in the shadows. This place does not belong in the south. It belongs in New York where people just don't know any better.

Service was slow at first but picked up quickly... Started off with the Riblets appetizer was very pleased with it as we shared between 3 of us! For my lunch I had the chicken and beef brisket on sourdough.. It was good however I think more sauce would of made it better! The muffins were a 5/5 they were served to us hot both times set on our table and were very delicious!

I have been here 3 times and 2 out of the 3- I have gotten extremely sick. The BBQ taste like it has been gassed, and you feel and taste it for a while. Service was good but just cant give it more than 1 star. Buyer beware..

I am a BBQ JUNKY! This place is convenient to my home and where I do most of my shopping which like everyone else in South Forsyth is the Avenues. I really haven't had a bad meal here. They give you a lot of food for the money, and the BBQ is not bad, although I have had way better, especially at mom and pop type places that have a lot less flair. My 2 biggest problems with this place is, first of all, the service! They always seem to be short staffed, and getting a drink refill is almost out of the question when you do get your meal. I have never been there since I started coming where the servers didn't seem weeded or stressed! The food itself usually comes out in a timely manner, but do not count on drink refills. The other complaint I have is that they run out of things often! I was talked into getting their massive pork chops by the server on one memorable occasion and 10 minutes later when I should have been close to getting my food, he tells me this. SO I ordered the sausage, and guess what? They were out of that too! The other things they constantly run out of are the desserts, and heaven forbid if you want ice cream with your pecan pie (if they have it)! Evidently their policy is to not have freezers in the building which is admirable, buy I like ice cream on just about every dessert they offer and don't think it's out of the question to have a small freezer for ice cream and still keep the integrity of their mission! One thing that I DO appreciate from this location is the excellent support they give to our schools in the area, but until they address what I feel are MANAGEMENT issues, (running out of food, training their staff to handle the pressure a little better) I cannot in good conscience give them a higher rating! There are very few what I call EXCELLENT choices for restaurants in our area, and Jim 'N Nicks definitely has the potential to get there. The problems they do have are annoying to say the least and need to be addressed to get more of my money!

I am from Birmingham and was very familiar with the original before they expanded throughout the South. Funny thing is, I rarely get the BBQ at one of the expansion restaurants. Not that the BBQ is bad, there are just so many other things on their menu that are different and good that I try something different a lot of the time. I'll get the nachos with brisket sometimes, one of the burgers or the club sandwich. I especially love anything that has their pimento cheese on it. The sides are all good and the cheese biscuits rock too. Their" homebrew" is also tasty to top things off.

If you have to get your Q from a chain, Jim 'N Nick's is definitely the place to get it from. You can actually smell the smoke from the pit when you walk in (heck, when you get near the place), which is rare in a chain joint, and always a good sign. Their ribs, pork and hotlinks are always delicious. And the cheesy corn muffins...insert gratuitous Homer Simpson mmmm here. The service is great and the atmosphere is relaxing if not a bit corny (hey, its a chain). Kids going nuts in the back of the car or just in a rush? They have a drive through too, but don't expect your standard 30 second drive-through experience. I'd probably give them 4 out of 5 stars if there wasn't so much great local Q to be had.
