Much like the other reviewers we were passing through on our way to Miami, when we could no longer wait to eat! I will also let you in on the fact that I have a knack for picking the worst exits to stop at......seriously it's a curse! Since I was driving it was up to me to pick the exit where we would stop to eat. Now if you're familiar with the area, you know that choices are few and far between, so I picked the bustliest area I could find. We pulled off the exit and drove about 3 miles down the road scoping out restaurants. We noticed Los Compadres and made a mental note. After our 6 mile roundtrip we felt confident that Los Compadres was the best........if not only......choice. We are from Indiana, so the opporunity to sit outside in March was really the deciding factor and I'm glad we did! It was a beautiful evening and even though I was driving and couldn't enjoy a margarita, it was still a relaxing pit stop. We tried out the queso for an appetizer and while I know nothing sounds as delicious as ooey gooey melted cheese, you should save your money. It wasn't worth the $4 and definitely not worth the calories, you'll be fine with the standard chips and salsa. For our meal, we had our usual chicken fajitas and they were good enough, the portion was huge we had more than enough to share. The biggest disappointment was the rice with our fajitas, it was truly awful, I was tempted to send it back because I was convinced that it had been contaminated with some type of chemical. Overall, it was a good meal probably because we were really hungry. On future visits through the area, I'll be careful to plan out a truly worthwhile eatery to stop at.

Nice little Mexican place. We were trying to make it to Macon before stopping for dinner but jumped off in Cordele as it was getting late. The dining options weren't impressive, so we were about to hit a fast food joint when we saw the sign. My family loves Mexican food, so it wasn't even a question of whether or not we were going to stop. Good food, service and prices. We will definitely stop again anytime we are passing through.

We were traveling through this weekend and looking for a place to grab a good dinner. Not much beyond Golden Corral, Waffle House, dirty looking Chinese buffet and fast food near where we were staying. We drove a couple of miles and found this place. We thought about the Cafe Harika but passed when the parking lot was totally empty on a Thursday evening. I suspect that kind of food isn't what the locals are going for. Los Compadres had a pretty good crowd going. And the food was pretty good. I had a brocheta, a skewer of grilled steak, chicken, and veg on a plate with guac salad, pico, rice and beans. Pretty standard american-mexican fare, but better than average. My wife had a taco salad with shredded chicken that was surprisingly really flavorful. And it's one of the few places in this very small town that has a full bar. It looked like a pretty local crowd and they had a large shaded outdoor seating area that looked like a pretty good weekend evening hangout. Not bad; worth a visit.

The food was pretty good overall. Taquitos were very good! Best we've had, actually. The quesadilla was exactly as described. My tacos de carne asada were only ok, but I'm spoiled by my local mex with it's tomatillo sauce. This was offered with pico, which was too hot for my tastes. The drinks were watery, imho. Spicy salsa. Quick, good, & friendly service. We'd stop in again!

A great find! Like most reviewers, we stopped there by chance on the way from MI to FL. I give it 5 stars because as the description says, it's as good as it gets. Very clean and friendly. The food is very good and authentic. Drive into town from the I75 exit, skip the usual chains and stop there.

Okay so I have eaten here many times since I was a kid. As of late, we've been hitting up El Girasol because we had vowed not to go back to Los Compadre's. Well we decided to go back because my sister had eaten here recently and said the food has gotten better. That was no lie. The food was pretty good. I have had better but in terms of Cordele its pretty good Mexican food. I got the house special, which is the closest thing I can get to what I normally get back where I live. However, the service was sub par. The booths were scrunched close and it was getting a little claustrophobic up in there. I can't speak for the other booths but that's how ours was. Our waiter looked as if he was forced to be there. He was not rude, but rather bores with us. The chip basket and sauce cup (not bowl) was small and it needed refilling. It seemed as if he had forgotten about us at one point. But the food made up for that once it was brought to us. But then, the bathrooms were gross. Water all over the floor and it got on my sister's foot. Not cool, bruh. The food was so good, but the service wasn't. It's just too bad because its such an easy fix.

We stopped here last night for dinner and were pleasantly surprised by this place. The people were very friendly and helpful. I had the Carnitas which were very good, my wife had a chicken dish that she liked.

The place is OK. Many of the patrons were Hispanic workers in the area. The chips and salsa were good. Wine was reasonably priced. I got the beef fajitas. The flavor was good, but the meat was as tough as shoe leather. It needed much more pounding prior to cooking it. There was only one waitress and she was overworked. So service slowed down as people arrived. She was friendly. I think they are looking for more staff. They had wi-fi, but it the signal was weak.

Service was terrible. Upon arrival we received our chips and salsa like normal. We ordered drinks and then food when the drinks were brought out. We also asked for more chips and salsa. It's was pretty slow at the time. No one came back by for 20-30 minutes while our waiter though visited another table 3 times and ignoring us. I finally yelled from across the room I would like Another drink. He said yes. The next time he came out he had nothing but nodded at me. I said bring me two so I don't have to wait. Of course he brought me one and the other person one. We told him we asked for more chips and salsa 30 minutes ago. He promptly brought those out. We didn't see him for another 15 minutes when he brought the food out. We wait 20 minutes after finishing our food for our ticket. We had to go find him and ask for it. He was giving one other table impeccable treatment while we were left for nothing. Food was decent but he ruined the visit. I work to hard for my money to waste it on garbage.

Good enchiladas but not great. The waiter was very sweet though. I have permanent vocal chord damage and cannot talk some days. He wasn't sure if I could hear either, and when he brought out my plate he made sure he looked me in my eyes and mouthed very plainly HOT. Lol seemed like a nice guy.

Like many of the other reviewers, we found Los Compadres as we were driving through, toward FL. We were pleasantly surprised. My wife usually doesn't like Mexican food, but really liked the food here. That is very high praise indeed. First, the decor isn't very good, but the tabletop and silverware was clean. The waiter brought complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. The steak fajitas were excellent. The meat was perfectly spiced and cooked. Moreover, it was very tender, unlike the usual fajita meat. Other plates we tried were the Ranchero dinner and Carnitas dinner. They were also perfectly grilled - crispy on the outside and tender inside. Sides of lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole were very fresh. Finally, the Chile Relleno were good. The waiter was very attentive to make sure we got refills on chips and drinks. We will definitely drop by there again when we pass GA.

Can only think of one other Mexican place I have been to that was this good-and its down in FL. Eat here 3-4 times a year and love it. Everything about the place is authentic.

My bf and I decided to try out this place on our way back from Florida to Michigan...we were very impressed! I had the cheese enchiladas and my boyfriend had the chicken enchiladas. The sauce was great! Beans and rice were also delicious. The decor was very festive and stuck with the Mexican theme. Our server was also very personable and gave great service!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
