We had the Conglomeration Platter and Roast Beef special and were not impressed. The meat was extremely dry and you can't tell the difference between the pork and the beef, the sauces are really runny and the mashed potatoes had no flavor at all. The banana pudding was the only decent thing we had other than the coca cola and sweet tea. The service was pretty bad too. Overall, this was like hospital cafeteria food at best. Not worth it. I would not recommend this place at all. I LOVE BBQ and was not a fan.

This place is very over rated. I guess it is such a fixture in the area people keep visiting out of habit. The bbq was dry and grissely. The service is that fake syrupy southern charm, and the waitresses try to be too friendly. It is very hectic, and you always feel rushed to finish and get out. Drinking out of mason jars may seem country, but I did that when we were dirt poor. I don't want to pay to do it now. There are much better places to spend your money.

Had the pork platter. Meat was very dry. BBQ cole slaw was pretty decent. The bananna dessert was amaZing. Over all I'd try somewhere else next time. 13th st BBQ or something like that nearby seemed like a good option.

My favorite place to eat when I come home. The chopped pork platter with the Dark red sauce (in a squirt bottle on the table), the soggy-crispy french fries, and a green salad. Plus sweet tea, plus crayon-drawings on the table... love it! It doesn't quite have the atmosphere of the downtown country's... feels like your eating in an old barn... banjo players on special nights... Drinking out of canning jars. Ah... BBQ in the south. For BBQ experts... Columbus BBQ is a little more mustard based than some of the others. Its fantastic!

Ordered some food Togo a couple of nights ago....I swear, I've never had such a bad experience with their food! My tenderloin was dry(probably nuked), coleslaw was HOT, and my fries were burnt. Very disappointed because I love some country's homefries! Still giving this place 3 stars because this is the first time I've been displeased with Country's!

I went here last night and ordered the Vidalia Onion dip for an appetizer. It was amazing. For dinner I ordered the BBQ chicken platter with a salad and corn in the cob. I love corn on the cob so that was good, the salad was just iceberg lettuce and 3 radishes (nothing special), Chicken was huge. Didn't even finish half of it. Corn bread was really good. I would come here again, extremely popular though, so prepare you might have to wait for a table.

A Columbus institution...if you want to interact with native folks you have to try their favorite BBQ. Food is pretty good chopped pork, sweet tea, and u must try a slice of their homemade pie. This trip was fresh blueberry and it was Tasty!

It's a long wait for food that is well OK. I got ribs expecting some delicious BBQ'd ribs however I was quite disappointed. The ribs were over cooked and so tough I couldn't get the meat off the bone. However my husband got chicken strips and they were amazing. I suppose it depends on what you order.

Went with the Conglomerate Platter - disgusting. Ribs were dry and overcooked. After eating that, I was definitely in need of floss!! As for the chopped bbq pork and beef - ehh, was also very very dry and unappetizing. I was rather disappointed in this place - I expected good food and service, but was presented with neither. Never again.

Countrys is one of my favorite restaurants in town. The food is always good, the service is great and the prices reasonable. The only drawback is occasionally there is a line to get in but usually not a very long wait.My friend Dan R from pa came to visit and we went there and he seem to enjoy it as well. The food ranges from of course bbq to chicken fingers, bbq chicken ,salads and all the side orders.if you are ever in town this is a great place to eat.

As someone that grew up in Columbus, Ga and visited many other places across the south I can honestly say that Columbus has some of the best BBQ of anywhere in America. That being said Country's has some great BBQ pork. However, the best thing they serve is their Brunswick stew. It is simply the BEST you can find anywhere period.

Good barbecue at super low prices. This is not the BEST bbq i have had, but it is good. they also have a wide variety of veggies, other meats like chicken, and some kids specialties. their daily specials are super cheap, they have good sweet tea in mason jars. they have crayons for the kids. very crowded on a weekend but a good weekday meal if you are too busy too cook. again, good (not great) bbq at super cheap prices

Food is garbage but price is good. One mans trash is another mans treasure I guess. You're better off getting McRib when it's in season at mcdonalds otherwise you can come here and get some take a big shit later BBQ here.

This place was a complete let down. It smells so good from the outside but far from good. I tried one of the best sellers and wasn't impressed with the bland cornbread or flavorless BBQ Pork. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, well at least the sweet tea is pretty good.

Great little barbecue place off exit #6 on I-185. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is REALLY country. The servers were very good, the prices were VERY reasonable, the portions were HUGE, and the food was outstanding. I had the the "Cue Stew" a large bowl of brunswick stew with a big pile of pulled pork barbecue on top. The BBQ pork was great but the brunswick stew may have been the best I've had in ten years or longer. Brunswick stew, pork BBQ, a small salad, and tea for under $10 - you can't beat that. I hope to make it back before I deploy and if I don't I'm going there with my wife when I get back from Iraq!

This place smells awesome even from about a mile away! But don't be fooled. The sauce they use is not that great. The chopped pork is VERY fatty! Not a fan of brunswick stew which is one of the things they are sort of known for. Chicken fingers are ok.

  • Kip T.

The ribs were good and nicely sized, pork was decent (sliced, not pulled or chopped), brisket was too dry but had a good smoke ring. The sauces were mostly mustard based, which I don't particularly care for. For sides, the collards were incredible, slaw was mediocre at best, and the cornbread was burnt. The fried pickles were too greasy, which I usually never have a problem with, but these were literally sitting in a pool. Our server seemed to disappear for long periods of time, which was surprising because it didn't seem too crowded. Overall, I give the BBQ at C+. Grady's BBQ in Dudley, NC still reigns supreme!

Great reviews on Yelp should be written by people that have proper authority, and I have proper authority because I have been coming to Country's Barbecue at Main Street Village for over 20 years now. I've eaten almost everything on the menu, as well as having dined in the restaurant and using the take-out service. The best things about Country's are the tea, the barbecue pork, the chicken fingers, the fries, and the sides. The tea is basically why I come to Country's. Most people enjoy their sweet tea in all its syrupy goodness, but I find it too sweet as an adult and much prefer a mixture of half-sweet and half-unsweet. I do have to say that the quality of barbecue pork is actually better at Clearview BBQ, but Country's sauces are quite superior in flavor, especially the ketchup-based mild sauce. Make sure you request your barbecue to inside meat and chopped fine. Another favorite staple that Country's offers is the chicken fingers. The chicken fingers are great by themselves, but the dipping sauce that is served with them raises the meal to a whole 'other level. (Make sure you insist your waitress bring the dipping sauce, because half the time she will forget.) If you like fries from Five Guys Burgers, then you'll love Country's fries even more. They have more flavor and are a lot less salty. Speaking of sides, Country's is one of the few places in Columbus that one can get an assortment of fresh vegetables. Do try the black eyed peas, butter beans, baked beans, corn on the cob, barbecue onions. I would recommend staying away from the Jimmie Changa, which is the Monday exclusive special. Every time I have ever ordered it, it has been served cold and was severely lacking in a proper portion size. I left hungry. I would also advise against ordering the desserts as the pies lack flavor, especially the lemon meringue. It's all meringue and no pie. If you're picking up take-out at the window, I would check the order to make sure everything is in there, especially the barbecue sauces and dipping sauces. One would think waitresses that are mostly high school students would remember to put sauces in the bag, but apparently that task is too difficult for them.

Taste: B Uniqueness: B+ Service: A- Price: A- Cleanliness: B Went here expecting original, "fall-off-the-bones," tender ribs. But the pork and ribs were both fairly hard in terms of texture- particularly the ribs. I almost felt like I was chewing a piece of ham. In terms of taste, neither the pork or ribs tasted unique. The sauces tasted overly salted and "vinegary." The much-hyped French fries tasted ok, but they were waaay too soggy with grease in my opinion. In terms of cleanliness, they could definitely improve. I understand that people eat ribs and such here, but having sticky chairs and unclean silverware is always a no-go. My chair was pretty sticky and one of my forks had visible residue. But all these negatives do not mean I had a bad experience. The sweet potato soufflé was delicious and unique. And the corn cob was cooked right to perfection. Our waitress provided great service and did her best to cater to our needs despite how busy it was. For the amount of food that is given per plate, prices are pretty good. The sweet tea is a pretty good deal with unlimited refills and great taste. Suggest you get one and share around with family. Overall, this place is worth coming to at least once. I'm just not sure if it was good enough to convince me to go back.

Worst bar-b-que in the south. I ordered 1.5 pounds of sliced pork and at least 75% of it was not edible: tendrils, cartilage, fat, sinew, veins and connective tissue but very little meat. They use THE LOWEST GRADE OF PORK POSSIBLE evidently. On a Saturday night the meat was cold and seemed to have been cooked some other day. Ruined our meal, ruined our evening. Horrible, horrible food. What's just as bad is that the place is completely run by rude teens who don't give a crap about you or the food or the restaurant. A 100% total fail. Our meat looked like refuse from the floor of a slaughterhouse. So sorry we chose Country's and will never darken the door again. Owner should be ashamed.

We went to Country's because we had heard it was delicious around town and we were sorely disappointed. The sauces were tasteless, the baked beans tasted like they were out of a can, and the cornbread was tasteless. I may have built this place up too much in my head because it ended up being a complete disappointment. Also, our waitress checked on us twice the entire time we were there. The tea was the only bright spot but wasn't worth the meal.

I have had a lot of BBQ - from TX to GA to the Carolinas. This place has pretty good BBQ, great service, good prices, and generous serving sizes. The sauce is delicious. The fried pickles, though, are WAY too thin. I had trouble finding the pickle in the breading. I guess some people like them that way, but not me. Some people don't like it, but as long as you aren't a BBQ snob and "too cool" to eat at a place that is a little more commercial than a food truck I think that you will honestly enjoy your visit.

The pulled pork has a great smoke ring, is juicy and succulent. The chicken is moist and smokey. And the brisket is tender, flavorful and not served with a bunch of fat. Oh wait a second, I was talking about my BBQ because I'm a "Yankee" and my food blows this place away. The chicken was DRY, I don't usually have to use sauce but it was so dry and the brisket has so much FAT, I mean are you supposed eat the fat. Cornbread, dry. Sides, a little weak. The service was very good. Does anyone know of any good bbq places around here. Oh yeah, my house!!!

Hm. I came here after i had two days of mindblowing bbqs, so this was quite a let-down. The giant smoker you see and smell from the parking lot (and parkway) was quite deceiving. The cornbread was delicious. We had fried pickles that were soaking in oil. Yes, theyre deep fried, but there's no need to skip letting it drip off and to simply serve it as a pickle oil soup. The chopped pork was dry, i had to drench it in sauce. The potato salad was okay, it was mustard based, which may be your thing, it wasnt mine. From a scale of 1 to 10, the taste of the white beans was at about 1.5. It was the most plain thing. Service was nice and prompt enough. Location and atmosphere was nice and clean. The iced tea was delicious! Three points solely carried by the service and atmosphere, the food wasn't bad, but it also wasnt satisfying either.

Country's Barbeque warrants a solid three stars. The verdict: I ordered the brisket. The brisket was tender, but it arrived to me cold. The sauces were mediocre. The brunswick stew was GREAT and the butter beans were so-so. When I arrived, I could smell the food from the parking lot and it was very inviting. In fact, I was super excited. I was seated outside during a really nice day, so that was a huge plus. I ordered some unsweet tea and water and both came in mason jars, in fact, all the drinks came in mason jars; a pint or quart size. Our drinks got to our table quickly. Unfortunately, the prompt service stopped there. We didn't see our server for another 10 minutes. She took our order and then our food didn't arrive for another 20 minutes. All of my sides were warm but my brisket was cold. I thought that my sauce had too much vinegar. The brunswick stew was made deliciously, so kudos to Country's for that batch of stew! The butter beans were run of the mill, not too salty, so that's a plus. Overall, it was enjoyable because we were with a good group of people who made it enjoyable. However, the lack of prompt service made it 4 stars and the inconsistencies in the food took it down to 3 stars.

While I enjoyed the rustic decor and casual atmosphere, the pork BBQ was easily the worst I've ever had. Dry and flavorless, the sauce was the only thing that made eating it possible. Even then, there were only three unimaginative, generic sauces. I wasn't alone in this displeasure. My coworkers all had similar complaints, one of them only being able to muster two bites of his "jerky-like" ribs. The only somewhat redeeming factor was my side of baked beans and collard greens which were simply good, not great. The service was average, but they were nice enough to split the check for our big group. We paid as we exited, which is always a plus for a casual place.

Country's is good food cooked the old fashioned way! We eat at country's at least once a month and it's consistently delish! Over the years, I'm sure I've tried everything on the menu, and it's all good but I love the BBQ chicken. It's always tender and juicy, plus it's enough to share! The fries are the best in town. The portions are huge and the prices are just right. If you go, you will want to clear your plate but, trust me, save room for desert! Homemade banana pudding or the strawberry shortcake, you can't go wrong!

Ever since the original location opened on Mercury Drive, I have been a huge fan of the best barbecue restaurant I've ever experienced, and believe me, I always seek them out when I travel. Country's has never changed, except to put other barbecue restaurants to shame. On April 5 we were all assembled, as we often do here, to celebrate a birthday, this time my mother-in-law's 78th! We always get one of the private rooms in front that are glassed in and the service is always good. I invariably order my favorite plate: sliced outside meet pork (where all the good smoked flavor is, a cup of Brunswick stew, and a full cob of corn on the cob with corn bread on the side. Served with a side of dill pickles and onions, and delicious unsweetened tea to wash it all down, it's a BBQ lover's paradise. Thanks Jim for serving Columbus and its ex-patriates wonderful food for so many years. You and your staff are the best ever anywhere!

I've been eating at Country's since the 70's and even have a relative that gave ol Jim Morpeth several of his recipes. I remember riding the giant rocking chair as a boy in 1977. The food is always good but the service (mostly at the Veteran's location) has gone to the hawgs. I'm just as much a fan of a southern belle as any turnip that fell of the turnip truck but these girls are more like prima donnas. While they do work hard, they just have no attention to detail. For example, most times I call in an order these days I get put on hold for at least 15 mins. Last time it happened I got to the restaurant before they got me off hold. When I walked in, girls were standing around with a deer in the headlights kind of look (with no supervision) standing around like a heffer chewing her cud. When I put in my order it was after waiting in line for 10 mins with one cashier at a two cashier stand - while the prima donnas swayed around aimlessly looking for nothing to do. After 20 mins I finally got my order. The BBQ is great and the girls are friendly. But Morpeth has got some work to do proctoring those feline phillies to perform to his normally fantastic standards.

Wow! This place is great. I am visiting from out of town and was looking for a place with good, southern food. I found it! We sat at the bar because the wait was long and ordered the sweet tea. It was cool and refreshing. The chicken spring rolls were AMAZING! BBQ chicken fried with cilantro and a thousand island dipping sauce, to die for! BBQ was on point. Service was friendly and quick. Will be making a stop here next time I am in town!

I guess I can see where this would be a popular establishment here in the south, but with so many other delicious restaurants within walking distance, you must have to be a die hard fan of this place to honestly enjoy it. It smelled great from the parking lot. I was excited! We ordered the sweet potato chips as an app. They came out chewy and greasy. I mean greasy! Visibly so! I personally wouldn't have taken them to the table. Common sense dictates what a decent chip should look like. We ate about 4 of them and couldn't do anymore. They came with a thick blue cheese dressing dip. Not very complimentary to a chip such as this. My husband and I aren't complainers when we dine out, so we just chalked it up to a loss, but if you were a decent waitress and saw your table hardly touched an app they paid for, wouldn't you ask if something was wrong? Meh--I would. Next were our meals. We both got the chopped pork because it seemed to be their specialty according to their menu. It was ok. Hunks of fat throughout, yet still dry? How does that even scientifically occur? Haha. We drowned it in the watery sauce and shoveled it in. I got collards and French fries. Collards weren't bad at all. I really liked them. The fries were obviously hand cut, but again, limp and greasy. Good idea, poor execution. My husbands sides were the baked beans and skillet apples. The beans weren't a deep rich mahogany color like most BBQ beans are. They were artificially sweeeeet and bright red. They tasted exactly how they looked. Just terrible. The skillet apples were in a very liquidy sauce. Not like Cracker Barrel's at all. They weren't necessarily offensive, but more a dish your friend's 88 year old grandma who can't really cook anymore would make. Sweet tea was great. Service was definitely lacking. We went during a slow time and it still took longer than I think it should've for the obvious premade quality of the food. Again, our waitress just didn't seem on point either. Clearly there just to make a buck. The entire meal felt like a bad version of a country Granny's cooking. I mean reallllllly country. They definitely got the name of this place right, that's for sure. In closing, I'll quote my husband who said it best. "I mean...I'm full. But of what?!"

I've try'd the pork tenderloin sandwich, the rib plate, chicken, and the brisket sandwich. The only thing remotely good was the pork tenderloin sandwich (although it's dry at times). The ribs were the toughest I've ever had. The chicken was both tough and dry. The brisket sandwich was absolutely horrible. It was more chewey fat than meat. Even the meat was chewy. I like the way they cook their fries but I've never gotten them fresh. My recommendation is to find some place else to spend your money.

Only been here once but it was a on Tuesday night which is their all you can eat half chicken. It's just their normal BBQ chicken platter with 2 sides for like $9 except that it's all you can eat chicken. Couple that with a large soda and dinner was under $12. Can't beat that! Aside from the fact that it was all you can eat is that this wasn't cheap fast food. You can tell the chicken was cooked well and was very delicious.

It's a barbecue place where the best thing on the menu is chicken fingers. If it were Country's Chicken Shack they might get 4 stars, but the namesake Barbecue is sub-par. 30 years ago or so, my Dad worked in Columbus for a short time. On a recent trip through town, he recalled that there was a Barbecue place he used to visit called "Country's" and wondered if it was still around. So, sure enough we had to stop and check it out. It was not bad all-in-all, but it's a Barbecue restaurant, with the emphasis on "restaurant" less so on the Barbecue. I have super high standards for Barbecue, so is a feature of a restaurant, not the focus, it's unlikely to win my heart. The waitress asked if we'd ever been before, and recommended the conglomeration platter (Ribs, beef and pork) so as to try nearly everything, I went with that, my wife got a ribs and chicken fingers plate. My mom ordered chicken livers. The Barbecue was just alright, the ribs (spares) were a little dry and tough. The brisket was pretty bland, and dry the way brisket tends to be. The pork was sliced and was the best of the three, it was a little stringy, but a nice smoke flavor. The spicy mustard sauce was the best of the sauce options. The chicken fingers, and livers, however were great. Some of the best fingers and definitely the best livers I have ever had. The fingers were plump and juicy, I could definitely discern the buttermilk marinade. The breading was extremely crispy, but not too heavy. They came with a decent honey mustard, but the sweet/spicy mustard bbq sauce was a better accompaniment. Also, if you asked me last week I'd have told you that don't like chicken livers, but if I returned to Country's that is what I would order. I don't know how to describe liver in a way that sounds good. So read my description of the fingers and apply it to livers. If you like livers at all I highly recommend them. It's been just over a week since my visit, and I can barely remember the sides. Nothing was memorably bad or good. Service was fine, it seemed a little slow but we were in a hurry. Prices are very fair considering the portion sizes. I don't think it's worth a second trip.

The food was ok, but not as awesome as expected. The Country's in uptown was better. At this location we had slow service and out waitress was not friendly. I ordered the turkey and it was a bit dry. The sauce on the table is tasty though.

My family and I have been eating at Country's for twenty + years, which says something. We're food people and we wouldn't patronize a place that long just to complain after all this time, even though the service is notoriously bad. But after tonight, I gotta say: Country's has lost me. I ordered my usual small chef salad--the one I've been ordering for at least 15 years. It was definitely smaller. Like a side salad. But at the same price. It looked pitiful, and I am not one to complain about portion size. One paltry slice of boiled egg, one sliver of radish, and one crescent of cucumber on a small nest of lettuce and cabbage. I mentioned it to our waitress. After all, I had ordered it as dinner, not an app. She didn't recall it having been larger and offered to bring another one and charge for the large. I said I would see how I felt after this one, thinking that there must be a few more crumbs of turkey toward the bottom. The second star, btw, is because what there was of the salad was very good. There weren't any more crumbs, however, so I asked her to let the kitchen know I was on to them. She didn't. I was charged the full amount and mentioned the issue at checkout. The cashier argued with me first, then said she'd look into it. After charging me the full amount. No effort to please a longtime customer. No apology. Goodbye, Country's.

As a good Georgian, you have to get chopped pork. Brunswick stew was different, but if you crumble corn bread into it, then its pretty good Likewise, slaw is vinegar based and not mayonnaise based, so be prepared. Pie crust was good and they keep it in a really cold fridge, so it truely is icebox pie.

Service was nice (Amiee seemed in-control), kinda slow (took more than 10 minutes to receive our drinks: sweet tea & water), and this particular restaurant was kinda dirty (an old postcard in the condament basket was saturated with caked-on BBQ sauce). The first thing that made me frown was how my sweet-tea was warm; almost all the ice melted. Moreover, refills were almost non-existent. Once we placed our order, we were alone for 15 minutes until I flagged-down our server. The BBQ sauce was a huge let-down. The three flavors taste cheap (ketchup, mustard, & hot sauce) and they were all VERY watery. The pork was not very flavorful, full of fat, undercooked, and tasted like something from a box in the grocery store frozen-food aisle. The cole slaw was pretty good, but the BBQ cole slaw was a cacophony of flavor and unimpressive. Country's is not bad (their catering can be spectacular) but when I eat their BBQ, I wish I had gone somewhere else. It seems there are corners being cut and the quality is suffering.

Pretty darn good barbeque. I got the Tuesday special pork sandwich with one side. They had mustard sauce with a kick that set the sandwich into flavorville. The collard greens were pretty tasty and big hunk of pork in it. The service was good and friendly.

I'm in Columbus, GA for work and some locals recommended this place. I know why - b/c it's good! The place was packed when we pulled up, so that's always a good. sign. There were 10 of us in our party but we only had to wait a few minutes for a tables. Service was quick and the food was good. It was really good southern fare. I got the chicken bbq and it was juicy, tasty, didn't have too much sauce - perfect. The sides are delicious too. This place is good ol' country cooking. Oh and we finished off our meal with banana pudding - it was the real deal, the kind of banana pudding I'm used to with the Nilla wafers and banana. I'll be here for a month for work so I definitely plan on going back. Oh and the sweet tea is pretty good - definitely on the sweet side but brewed to perfection. I went here a second time for dinner at the downtown location and it wasn't as good. I raved about the BBQ chicken and so a co-worker ordered it. It was totally dry. The squash casserole wasn't as good either. Not sure if it was just an off night or if the downtown location just isn't as good.

Not impressed at all. Unfortunately, I've given it several tries hoping the next time and the time after that would be better. WRONG! Each time I have been disappointed! First of all, I've tried different menu items each time, the meat is consistently dry, the cornbread is dry and bland and the best thing I've had is the chicken fingers, which is pretty hard for any restaurant to mess up. If that weren't bad enough, the service has something to be desired as well. My place of work orders lunch takeout now and then during the week. I had the task of going to pick up the order last week for 6 people that was called in at 10:30am. They said it would be ready for pickup at noon. I got there at noon, and they said it would be a few minutes....45 min later it was finally ready! I had to ask several times why it took 2 hours to get a takeout order for 6 people prepared?! The high school girls at the front looked clueless and like they could care less, they were more concerned about discussing their social lives than taking care of customers. I wouldn't waste my time or $ here again, service and food just isn't that good. There are much better BBQ places in town that are waaaay better and don't serve dry bland food with an attitude problem. If that's how "Folks down here like it" then that's just plain sad and you need to venture out!

Oh how I wish we had this place in California. I was in Columbus visiting a friend over the summer and she took me here one day for lunch. My one request was to eat real southern BBQ. I don't know whether this was real southern BBQ so don't you laugh at me. All I know is that this was good BBQ. I had the pulled pork but when my friend's BBQ chicken came out, I wish I had ordered that instead. It was juicy and tender, just the perfect amount of crispness on the skin. That was a good piece of chicken. Oh and I have never had brunskwick stew before and I am a fan! I don't know everything that is in it but that was a good soup! (I think its slowly roasted pork and veggies) Some cons- corn bread was dry (I am picky w/corn bread), collared greens too salty for my taste but my pal assured me its supposed to be like that. Pros- We got to take our Sweet Tea in to go cups. Not itty bitty cups...we are talking SUPER SIZE like a liter size. This was a blessing since it was over 100 degrees that day and super humid. Thanks for the great experience Country's! Much love to all the men and women serving our Country too!

Since I was stationed at Ft.Benning for training I of course wanted to try the local cuisine. One day, I longed for some damn good BBQ. Being in the south, I knew I'd have a plethora of choices. Well, luckily not to far away was this place. Woooo doggie it was finger licking good! I had the chicken breasts and ribs. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the rib meat mealted in my mouth. The fried corn on the cobwas awesome and their corn bread was to die for. The night I went there was a bluegrass band there. Pretty dang awesome.

This place is not great as real barbecue places go. This is more like a fast food barbecue place than a real barbecue place. The brisket is dry and tasteless hence why they have to slice it so thin and drench it in sauce. The ribs are also dry and bland. The sides are hit and miss but they have a good variety. They have good collard greens and black eyed peas but never order their fries. I'm not much of a desserts person but I heard it is good. Countrys offers more than just Barbecue with a lot of sides to choose from and other food selections on the menu. But as far as the quality of the barbecue goes, it is bland and uninspiring compared to some other barbecue places in the area.

Came here for dinner one night, and the BBQ was good. I had. Pulled pork, Cole slaw, baked beans. All was good however the Cole slaw was made with vinger which is fine. I being from California all my life the Cole slaw is made from a creamy base is fine with me to. I guess it's a east cost thing with a vinger taste.

Very good food. I loved the Texas Beef Brisket. The Corn bread was just ok. The fixings that come with the meal are not that great. Good atmosphere, great for larger parties.

I'm giving it three stars. The brisket was okay, the sauces were good. Banana pudding? Delicious. Service? Okay I was seated at the bar with the money and it took 10-12 minutes to have someone say she'll be with me in a minute. The hostess who sat me asked if anyone had come to check on me yet and then got me my sweet tea-served in a mason jar by the way, nice touch. A completely different waitress came up and asked if I was ready. Umm,,,yeah not only was I starving but I had plenty of time to look over everything. I went with the brisket because I didn't really want to eat pork, any time I see brisket it makes me want to order it anyway. It was okay, like I said a little dry but the sauces make up for it. I love mustard based sauces and these didn't disappoint. The fries weren't what I was expecting they were just really soggy but okay and the butter beans were also pretty good. On to the best part of the meal, the banana pudding-it took me a while to get all of the flavors but when I did it was amazing. Cool, creamy pudding, with moist sweet wafer. It really is worth the visit. A solid local place to visit if you happen to be in the area.

Trapped on Ft. Benning for a week, eating at perhaps the worst military dining facility I've seen in any country, our first unassisted trip was unsuccessful (a Denny's downtown). Columbus, GA is the very definition of "godforsaken military town" -- "when does the ghetto end?" has no answer, and the whole place mainly exists to convince people that wherever they're going is not so bad after all. I'm sure the pawn shops, self-storage, and strip clubs are all fairly busy. However, Yelp pointed out a few good options -- Country's Barbecue seemed like the best. We went at dinner mid-week, were immediately seated, and got a menu -- cheap ($6-10) plates of meat. The "conglomeration platter", containing one of every animal species known to man (or at least, pork, ribs, and beef), chopped or sliced (chopped! sliced is too much work). Mustard based. The bbq was a bit dry compared to some places, but 3 bottles of sauce were on the table, along with a big roll of paper towels, and mason jars of your favorite drink. Service was friendly and efficient. One point not noted in other reviews is that the waitresses were all amazingly hot in the early evenings -- always a good complement to a huge plate of bbq.

I was very skeptical because the young girl at the front taking the "to go" orders was rude and unwelcoming! But, the food was amazing! I got the rib tips and I was glad I took 'em back to the hotel so I could suck the bones! The greens were really good too! I would absolutely go back...

I had the combination platter and was disappointed. The ribs had very little meat the pulled pork had a gamey taste. Cole slaw was bland and the potato salad had way too much mayo and mustard. I was not impressed and will not be returning next time I am visiting Columbus.

I have lived in the Columbus area for several years now, and I continue to be baffled as to why Country's is so popular. I have tried the bbq beef and pork several times, and each time it has been full of fat and no good. I even paid extra for the brisket once, because the menu specifically states it is "lean". Not so! It is so bad that there are pieces I can't choke down and have to discretely spit into a napkin. Ewwww. Gross, I know, but I am trying to warn others. :) The best meal I ever had here was a cheeseburger, but it is sad when you go to a "renowned" (don't ask me why) bbq place and you are forced to resort to something like a cheeseburger because the bbq itself is awful and literally inedible. To be fair, their potato salad and sweet tea are pretty good. Because so many other people love it, I do get stuck going from time to time. I learned to just get a cup of the vegetable beef soup, because usually they don't screw that up, although last time I got it, there was a tough, stringy okra piece which I could not chew up. Ick.

This is one of those places we always loved to go to. It's a local chain with several restaurants in town. This is a southern BBQ place. Nothing over the top or fancy here. Very down home atmosphere. Rather then having place mats or a big table cloth they just have a big sheet of brown paper over the table that they change when they bus them. A bit odd, but nice for the kids who can color all over the "table cloth" while waiting for dinner to arrive :) They have an in house, wood fired smoke house that runs at night and in the morning, smoking the food for the next day. As you would also expect (or hope) prices are very reasonable and they have specials during the week that make going out to dinner not too painful of an experience. This is a meat and potatoes sort of place, so if you're a vegetarian (obviously) this wouldn't be the most likely place for you to go get dinner. The southern style BBQ here is great. Just about everything we've had here has been from good to excellent. Obviously tastes vary, but this is one of those places you should hit if you're in town. Along with awesome meat they have another southern dish that should be sampled - Brunswick Stew. I loved it and my brother swore that if he had somewhere in San Diego that made it he'd never eat anywhere else. Also I loved their cornbread. Where I grew up cornbread is usually honey glazed and I never liked it much. Here it's very pure and oh so yummy. So yeah, overall a great place for everyone from a single person, to a family to a large group. Kid friendly, good atmosphere and great food...what more could you want?

Note: I ate at the Mercury Road location, not Veterans Pkwy... Stopped in for lunch with my son who had just graduated from basic training at Fort Benning. After ten weeks of Army chow and MREs he'd eat just about anything so don't ask his opinion. As for me I found Country's to be an enjoyable place with good food. As other reviews mentioned, our brisket and pork were on the dry side ---but it was flavorful, and if you love laying on the sauce that's no problem. This was my first experience with deep fried pickles and the waitress took great delight in introducing the Yankees to this Southern delicacy. Meanwhile, my son took great delight in chatting up the waitress. Not a lot of ladies to be seen at basic training, are there? Overall lunch was filling, reasonably priced, and very satisfying. Was it the best BBQ I've ever eaten? No that was in Castroville, California where a couple of scary looking guys from Texas introduced me and the wife to the pleasures of real Q. That was something like 20 years ago and i can still taste it.

Great service, but the food varies between good and normal. Brunswick stew is tasty Ribs were tough and dry but good Brisket was chewy pork was delicious slaw was delicious fried pickles are good too. It is not that the food is bad, but it could be a lot better...authentic smoked taste, but not a real great popping and things tended to be dry (and I am not just talking about lack of slathered sauce)

Totally decent place to get some BBQ, their salad and french fries are to die for. while visiting friends in town they suggested this place to me, it was alright. compared to what we have back home this place was a jewel. The staff was friendly and quick to bring our order. The night we went it was packed, we had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated. my order was just a combination that Caroline and I shared, it was every type of sauce they could put on their meat. great eats. it was decourated with all kinds of trophies, plaques and camping gear, stuffed bear heads, jackets, vests, fishing rods. there was an upside down canoe on the roof. Our waitress was exceptionally friendly too. they have a child's menu also.

Awesome friendly staff. Great food at affordable prices. Sweet tea sure was sweet. We found the secret you gotta ask for the sloop sauce on your meats. Sweet potato casserole is a new favorite side dish however they only have it on fridays :(. We were even given to go cups for our sweet tea at the end of our meals.

We stopped here for a taste of Southern BBQ, and were not disappointed. The portions are enormous, prices relatively low, and tasted very good (not the best I've ever had, but still pretty tasty.) I really liked the chilli although my wife thought it was overpowered by chilli powder flavor - I think we were both right. If you're in Columbus, I'd make a stop here and check it out.

The BBQ is delicious but don't look to closely at the floor, decorations, or corners. A couple of personal favorite items are the Que Stew and the Beef Brisket with Shoop Sauce. If you like things hot be sure to ask for the Back-Fire Sauce. (Watchout.. backfire sauce is named very appropriately. You'll find out why a little later.) This Country's(just like all the other Country's locations I have ever been to)is generally grungy with lots of dust on the decor. Don't get me wrong, this place is still one of my favorites. Also worth pointing out is that no two Country's restaurants are the same. Downtown Columbus has one in the old Bus Station and the one on Mercury Drive in Columbus even has live music some nights!

This place is pretty bad. Had the brisket platter. Brisket was not at all tender. Lots of fatty pieces. Corn bread was dry and corn on the cob was greasy for some reason. Banana pudding was soo sweet.

Country's BBQ is about the best your going to get in the Columbus area. I have eaten here since I was a small boy. The usual service, it ain't no 5 star service. The food though makes up for it and one of my favorites they serve barbecued beef on the menu. I am not a big pork fan. This is a good meal at a decent price.

BBQ is mediocre but the Banana Pudding Pie is AMAZING and Totally Delicious. Go to Clearview or Smoky Pig for dinner and then get french fries (greasy, salty delights) and the unbelievable banana pudding pie, which comes in a Mason jar with Nilla Wafers. The Goober Pie is also great - totally decadent and fatalicious. Buttermilk pie is kind of bland. Share.

Best chicken fingers that I have ever had. The batter felt so airy yet crisp and the chicken was fried perfectly so that it was still moist. I wish that I could eat a whole plateful of those. Ribs that I got were a little scorched so really dry. Was disappointed in that. I also prefer my ribs to be more tender. I'm hoping that this was just a fluke though and will have to come back to try again (or at least so that I can eat some more chicken fingers). All my sides: tater salad, collards, and adult chili (nice spice!) were great.

Columbus, Georgia...forgotten town along side the Chatahoochee River and sister city to Phenix City, Alabama (yes, they really spell it Phenix). life couldn't get any worse. i had the misfortune of spending 4 months of my life working and living in this horrible backwards place filled with stip clubs, Piggly Wiggly supermarkets and tons of restaurants. Country's Barbecue was pretty decent though. i'm not sure if it was the best BBQ i've ever had, but it was pretty damn good. i used to eat there at least once a week and i was never disappointed although had i stayed there any longer i probably would have had a heart attack. something about their sauces were fantastic. this part of the world (if it really is part of the world) uses more of a vinegar base to their sauces and i prefer it to the molasses based sauces of Kansas City or places in Texas. the place is rustic...lots of old crap everywhere...relics from yesteryear...memorabilia from the old RC Cola plant from way back when it looked like the town might have a future (it didn't) and tons of dust. generally the place looks like something you might see in the Dukes of Hazard (original show) and half the men eating there look like Boss Hog. if you ever happen to be passing through (god help you) make sure you experience Columbus right...play getaway banjo music while you're driving and stop by Country's for a little "culture."

Good bbq consistantly. The environment is a bit hectic, alot like a cafeteria nearly every night. However, the price of the food makes up for it (large filling plates for under $10.00). A large variety of sauces complete the bbq goodness. Good fried pickles and baked beans, bad corn bread.

This has been a long time family favorite. Although, I have heard comments that the meat has a burnt taste or it's too dry - we like it that way whether it's pork or beef, chopped, diced, or shredded - it's all delicious! Brunswick stew is awesome as well as the sweet tea. This is a casual and comfortable place with a long history of great food and service in Columbus but be aware, you may have to be a native to fully appreciate all of this - I have yet to find anything as good as Country's BBQ in any city and I've looked from Tennesee to Texas and all in between.

i took my family over to country's after reading how great it was. unfortunately, it didn't live up to it's reputation. i'm from Texas and i have to say that i'm a avid bbq lover. this, by far, was not ANYWHERE close to the best bbq i've had. i had the conglomerate platter w/black eyed peas and a side salad. hubby opted for chicken. my daughter ordered the ribs and my son ordered their pb & j w/sliced tomatoes to the side. food LOOKED good, but when we bit into it we were bitterly disappointed. as some people have stated, you really can't tell the difference between the pork and beef brisket and the meat was extremely dry and flavorless. hubby said his chicken was "okay", my son loved his pb&j, and my daughter and i just shook our heads in disappointment. we decided we would order a slice of lemon meringue to see if they could redeem themselves, but no. it was the last straw for us and it will be a good while before (IF) we return to give them another shot.
