That green guacamole looking sauce at the salad bar is like CRACK. Absolutely delicious. I could drink a whole gallon of that stuff. I ordered the Flautas. It's basically 2 fried corn tortilla's wrapped with chicken, tomato, cilantro, lettuce and other stuff inside. The tortilla's were fried perfectly.. it was still soft in the middle but yet crispy. Chicken was AMAZING.. very juicy and tender. Eat it with the green sauce = HEAVEN. I also ordered the mango juice. Not even kidding.. but that mango juice tasted like they squeezed real fresh mango's. I really enjoyed this place and highly recommend it if you want something easy, fast, and cheap. I can tell this place was super authentic, they even called out the order numbers in spanish (luckily I knew a few numbers in spanish). When I walked in, the entire restaurant was basically filled with hispanic's. I felt a little out of place. But if you're willing to look past it.. go in and order the Flautas!!

I was a little sad to see that there are so few vegetarian options on the menu. Also, the one that I did find--the cheese torta--was pretty good, but it was too simple. I would have preferred more ingredients and the cheese to be melted. All that being said, if meat is your thing, you have a lot of great options. And, the salsa bar is well kept. It has a lot of options on it, and it's very clean. You might want to refresh your knowledge of Spanish numbers. They easily took my order in English, but when my order was ready, the order number wasn't called out in English.

This is the Chamblee Tucker location. Beans were excellent, rice was excellent. Enjoyed my tacos (particularly recommend the barbacoa 'steamed beef'). Wife enjoyed her burrito. No complaints.

Excellent Torta. I'm not a professional Torta eater or anything, but I've had a few in my life. I really enjoyed the bread on this one. I think no matter what nationality your sandwich is, the bread makes or breaks it. If you are low carbing...this is not the stop for you. The bread is about an inch thick, maybe more. It's tuff enough to hold the innards of amazing steak, cheese, peppers, avacodo, or whatever you put in yours...but soft enough not to cut the top of your mouth. I'd visit again for sure.

Te quiero mucho Las Tortas Locas!!! My husband brought me here over three years ago and my life hasn't been the same. I've tried almost everything. Tortas- big and filling, they have about 20 different ones. The pastor and the Hawaiian are my favorite. Quesadillas- very big my two year old loves them he eats two pieces and takes a nap lol. The meat is really seasoned well I'm not really a fan of flour tortillas but I like their's a lot. Salads- The loca salad is sooooo good! I get the steak salad it comes with queso fresco, tomatoes, avocados, olives, and tortilla strips it is HUGE and just pour some salsa on top and heaven! Tacos- the pastor tacos are to die for! And so are the chicharones and salsa verde. Flautas- They are super long like a taquito on steroids. They top it with lettuce, cheese, avocados, and tomatoes. I love theses most of the time it's all I get. Salsa- OMG!!! Delicious! The avocado one is so spicy and so good! Sometimes I just come to get salsa when I cook at home. I love their habanero onions too! Drinks- the mango juice is amazing! My husband loves the Jamaican (hibiscus) drink and tamarind (no me gusta). The horchata tastes like liquid diabetes but I love it! You can't go wrong with a Mexican restaurant that Mexicans actually go to.

I was really craving a torta for some reason and I'd heard pretty good things about this place from friends so here I came. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, in fact the flautas sounded so good that it swayed from my torta craving. Coming in I was a little bit concerned that there might be a language barrier, as it seemed like I was the only non Spanish speaker in the restaurant, but the cashier took my order with no problem; I ordered the beef flautas to go. It also came out a lot faster than I expected considering the line was pretty long. I did end up waiting a little bit longer than I needed to, the cooks call out the orders in Spanish and I overestimated my ability to understand '134' (you would think after two years of Spanish!). It was easily rectified, I just went up to the counter and asked for my order. The flautas were decent, they came in two very long pieces versus four shorter ones and they were topped with generous amounts of a lettuce/queso type salad. The tortillas were nice and crispy, I found that there was slight aftertaste that I didn't enjoy from the beef though..maybe next time I'll go with my original hankering.

I have so far just tried their tacos and chicken flautas. Both very delicious! Really love their salsa bar. Their rice and beans are so great. They also have a tasty variety of different Mexican drinks.

This place was alright for tacos. I was in the area and wanted some tacos for lunch, Ive been to don pedro many times, so I figured to switch it up with this place. My boyfriend got the taco combo, and i got 1 pastor, and 2 steak tacos. The pastor was pretty good, I didn't like how the corn tortillas were "thick." It made it hard to eat. Their salsa bar was okay to me. Everything did look fresh. The 2 steak tacos I ordered were the best in flavors. I don't think i'll ever have a stomach for tortas because they do look huge. The cashier was pretty friendly, and food came out in a timely manner.

My first time here and I played it safe. I ordered the asada. It was good and full of flavor. I love the avocado in the middle of the tortas. The salsa bar is phenomenal! Next time I'm going knee-deep.

this people think they can force you to eat meat when you are telling them you ordered your torta with no meat because you are vegeterian!! smh NEVER WILL I EVER EAT AT THIS LOCATION AGAIN!!!

The food is authentic and excellent. I've tried most of all their tortas and they were all delicious. Their hor chata is also really yummy. My favorite part is the salad bar they have where they make this pasta salad that's awesome. Can't remember all the names of the things ive ordered but I have not been disappointed one bit!

Authentic mexican food. So not expect this place to be as nice as an American fast-food place - no guarantee that they will speak English either. Get a side order of chips and salsa and try every kind of salsa they have.

Another discovery thanks to Yelp - this place has tortas (of course), tacos (but no fish), quesadillas, burritos, and lunch specials ($4.75-5.75). You order at the front, and they will call you when your food is ready. Cashier speaks English but the cooks do not -- I tried to ask for cilantro but they didn't understand me :) Restaurant looks very clean, employees are nice, they have a great salsa bar (the creamy spicy avocado salsa is my favorite), prices are in the $4-7 range, and the food is good. I was the only non-Mexican customer for both my visits so I guess that's a good sign too :) MILANESA TORTAS - $5.50 Breaded meat, avocado, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Very tasty sandwich although a little overwhelmed by the bread. I'd still get it again. TACO COMBO LUNCH SPECIAL - $4.75 Includes two tacos, charbroiled chicken or steak (both good), double layer corn tortillas (authentic & fresh), but sadly Gringo-style w/ shredded iceberg and cheese ... if you're non-Mexican and you want chopped onions & cilantro, you probably have to ask for it. The combo also came w/ Mexican rice and black beans (both ok and rather small portion). CHIPS & SALSA - $2.50 Sadly not complimentary but you do get a nice tub of salsa which I ended up taking home. HORCHATA - $1.75 Very good. If you haven't had Horchata before, don't miss out. I'll definitely be back. I just wish they served fish tacos too. FYI - they're located in the strip mall just behind Penang.

Went here for lunch and decided it was a good day to try to use my limited Spanish vocabulary ... are you smiling yet? After all, this was a Latin restaurant serving Latin customers, with Latin TV channels displayed up on the wall. What could go wrong? OK, so High School Spanish is longer ago than I remembered, or Ms. Karen Baugh was not really an ethnic Spanish speaker, or maybe I just got the words twisted sideways in my mouth ... I am a Southerner, after all. Think of a thick Gone With The Wind type of accent ... now say "Como esta ..." (and make those two words cover about 8 syllables). Hey, at least I knew what I was trying to say! The lady behind the counter (pardon me, Mujer) seemed to be able to listen to my order without her laughter causing her to lose the thread of conversation ... and as far as food goes ... I got what I asked for. That's success, right there. Where we went wrong, was when the Mujer (or maybe she was still a Senorita) asked me what I wanted to drink (at least that's what I think she asked, "bebida" and "viva" sound an awful lot alike when said with a Latin accent ... but since we were in a fast food place, I erred on the side of her asking me about a beverage, and not her asking how my life was going ... although the folks at my bank tend to ask questions like that ... even want to know how I'm feeling today (but I digress). I assumed she meant beverage, and was well prepared with my answer of "Te". If you ask for tea anywhere in Atlanta, you're gonna get a big cup of strong, dark, sugar-coma iced tea. Evidently, I had crossed some sort of border and was no longer in Atlanta (or Kansas, either). The Senorita (or maybe Senora) replied in a rapid string of Spanish words and I was hoping that she was asking whether I wanted sweet or unsweetened tea. With her saying words at about six times the rate my southern ears could translate ... I just tried to grab one or two out of each sentence to figure out what she was saying ... I kept listening for "dulce" (sweet) ... but I wasn't sure that it ever came. Still the Senora smiled, took my money, and directed me further down the counter. When my tea arrived a few minutes later, it was hot green tea! Evidently, to southern ears "verde" (green) sounds much like "dulce" ... or at least I'll claim that it does. When my Torta Michoacán showed up ... it was huge, delicious, and piping hot ... filled with peppers, onions, Carnitas (spiced pork), white cheese and other unidentifiable yummy things. I grabbed a seat not far from the cashier and went to work on one of the most delicious sandwiches I have ever had. My discomfort of trying my rudimentary Spanish was forgotten in a moment of "mucho gusto" and "la mejor" ... right up until the moment another "gringo" stepped up to the cashier and I heard her say in very clear English with almost no trace of a Latin accent, "Good afternoon, can I take your order please?" Good sandwich or not ... I tried to slink out of the restaurant without making eye contact with the cashier ... but she managed to catch my attention with a friendly wave and a "y'all come back now" as I headed for the door. Busted. So busted. Still great sandwich, and I will go back ... only, I'll say that my twin brother highly recommended the place!

This place is a hidden gem in my neighborhood. Perhaps not the best torta in the neighborhood; however, it may be the best torta for the money ($5.50). A torta, for those not familiar, is Spanish for "turtle," it is a mexican sub type sandwich filled with your choice of meat, avocado, lettuce, cheese and is served on top of toasty / crusty bread. Some places put a refried bean spread and / or sour cream based condiment on their versions but this place does not. A torta may be Mexican on origin but it doesn't taste like typical Mexican cuisine as do tacos or burritos. I went here on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30 pm and it was buzzing with activity. You order at the counter to order from an overhead menu printed in both English and Spanish. I did get some odd stares considering I was the only non-hispanic / non-latino in the place. I ordered a steak torta, in which the meat was grilled to perfection. I added a bunch of different salsas (from the salsa bar) to every bite. The salsa bar is fantastic and has about 6 to 8 different salsas with varying levels of spiciness / heat. There are also different types of condiments, salads (cold macaroni salad is deliciously different and fresh) and relishes of various colors (red, green, orange, etc). They also have traditional fresh toppings like carrot, radish, cucumber, lime, onion and jalapeño (pickled and fresh). The place is surprisingly bright and clean. I enjoy going to dark, hole in the wall dives; however, I also don't like not knowing how unsanitary a place might be. This place can be hard to find if you dont know the area well; it is behind Penang in the Hoa Binh, Pho Bac, Viet Tofu shopping center. There is plenty of safe parking. For about $5.50 - $6, you get a great, tasty sandwich, I will be back to try the other sandwich options. I hear that it is open late - until 5am on weekends.

This place is next to my office, so seeing that it had good reviews on Yelp, I decided to try it out. I took the lunch special for $4.75 to go - 2 tacos (1 chicken, 1 steak), black beans and rice. Price wise everything is under $7.00 I told them I wanted the cilantro and onions versus the cheese and lettuce, they still gave me cheese on my tacos. This was okay because the cheese was real Mexican cheese. I asked if I could substitute out the beans and rice for a salad = NO! Cashier pointed to the sauce bar (ha ha!) The tacos were good. The steak was flavorful as was the chicken and both were tender. They did not skimp on the meat. The picture another user uploaded of the taco combo is on point. The bean and rice portions were really small it was like half of what you would get at any other Mexican joint but the tacos were filling. I'm guessing the beans and rice aren't really sides and more as toppings for the tacos?? The salad/sauce bar was a pretty cool addition but to go people you have to pay an extra $2.25 for a small bowl to take the stuff home (not worth it) just pile whatever you want on your To Go plate. The sauces are pretty spicy and I'm Indian-ish so we eat some pretty hot stuff but DANG! These sauces were HOT, be careful! I subtracted a star for them not offering any accommodations for to go patrons and a star for no salad substitutions for people who want a lighter side option. I will most likely visit in the near future when I crave Mexican tacos, but just because it is located near my office. I most likely would never drive to eat here.

SO LOVES Mexican food... me, not so much. So, when he suggested Mexican for lunch, I quickly grabbed my phone and turned on my Yelp app. I wanted something good, but not to the point where I would be babying my glass of water and twirling my straws because everything is covered in spicy, watery salsa (this happens more than I'd like to admit). Found Las Tortas Locas in the shopping center behind Penang and Hoa Binh Supermarket. Parking was easy enough. We walk in and noticed right away that this place is pretty spotless. I was impressed, because not many places on Buford Hwy can boast this! The cashier spoke no english to us. In fact, in rapid Spanish she asked if we would be dining in or take out. I managed to muster up enough of high school Spanish to tell her it was a dine in. We decided on getting a variety of things to try them out. I had the philly style tortas, SO had the taco combo and an herecha (sp?). I asked for a sweet tea for my drink but the cashier (who greeted us in Spanish) gave me a tamarind tea. Now, I don't usually go for the tamarind, it's taste is very weird to me so of course I did not drink this. SO loved his meal. The rice and beans portion was extremely small though. The corn tortilla was his favorite, along with a salsa bar. The bar itself is pretty small, but very well stocked. I wish that there was a sign or even a logical order of putting the salsa in mildest to hottest and the small cups they provide you with are ridiculously small. The herecha ended up being something similar to a flat bread pizza. It had meat, salsa and shredded lettuce on top. I took a bite, but it just wasn't something I liked. This was fine because SO devoured it as soon as I said no. My torta was ok. The filling was pretty good, but the bread was overwhelming and the bread vs. meat ratio was not good. There is cheese inside, but then there is also a slice of white cheese that is NOT melted which kinda was weird. There is also some kind of bean paste inside which I am not used to or fond of. As we were finishing up our lunch, the place became absolutely packed with people and their kids. And like the other reviewers, we were the only non natives. But dont worry, the signs are in both English and Spanish.

I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant with a salsa bar. The salsa bar wasn't exactly what I expected, as there weren't any chips (I ordered chips) and there were no bowls for the salsa; only tiny little plastic cups. I don't know exactly where I was supposed to put salsa if I had wanted to dip my chip into it, but I got cheese dip, so I just didn't get any. The one thing I did like about the bar was the very hot red pepper sauce that I used to spice up my cheese dip and burrito. YUM! I got a steak burrito and cheese dip with chips. Both were very, very good. I've read other reviews where the reviewer was the only non-hispanic or english-speaking person in the restaurant, which was true in my case also, but they didn't make me feel out of place at all. Everyone is very happy and inviting. Las Tortas Locas is quite a hike for me, so I won't be going there on a regular basis but if I'm in Doraville around mealtime, I'll definitely stop in for their good food and hot red sauce.

I wanted some mexican and my wife found the place and said the reviews are pretty good. Got there..parking is a bit tight but nothing to crazy. We were the only non hispanics there. you order your food at the counter and pick it up when it is ready. I got the taco meal and huarache(i think it was called). 2 tacos on corn tortilla(which I really like) rice and bean with taco meal.. felt like they could have been little more generous with the rice and beans but it was still pretty good. Huarache--my first time trying it.. I liked the flat bread with all the topping on it but not something I would go for next time..found the flat bread to be over cooked. it had it's own little salsa bar with bunches of with different sauces and salsa. prices were low, food was good.. my wife didn't like her torta but she is not easy to please, especially with mexican food. Many mexican restaurants on buford hwy.. I'd say this place is worth a visit.

Las Tortas Locas is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city. When items are paired with the sauces at the bar, things take off. It's a definite party in your mouth. Personal favorites are the queso and charizo tacos drowned in green sauce.

Amazing. Three tacos from this place and your world will be changed. Try the green salsa. A little spicy, but it lasts on your lips for the rest of the day.

Of all the locations, this one is my favorite. It has the biggest condiment bar. It's quick, delicious, and oh so greasy. My go to torta is the Cubana....it's got a little of everything. Not a fan of their tacos though.

Did you know? A torta is a mexican sandwich filled with meat, avocado, lettuce, cheese and is served on top of toasty, crusty bread. It's mexican, but doesn't taste as mexican as like tacos or burritos. Maybe, because there aren't any beans. I came to this place on a Friday night and it was pretty busy starting at 7:30pm. You go up to the counter to order from a menu that's been translated to English -- so there's no big deal if you dont speak Spanish. However, we did get some weird stares considering we were the only asian ones there. I ordered a spicy pork torta, which was absolutely roasted to perfection. I added a bunch of salsas to every bite from the salsa bar, which has about 6-8 different levels of spicyness as well as different types of chilis (red, green, orange, etc). They also have additional toppings like onions, jalapenos, whatever... even like sweet potatoes to eat. In addition, the place was so surprisingly clean! I always like to go to hole in the walls, but I hate having to question about how sanitary the place is. It's really really really clean and new. By the way, it can be hard to find if you dont know that area -- its behind the Penang in the Hoa Binh, Pho Bac, Viet Tofu shopping center. There's plenty of safe parking. Overall for about $5.50 for a great, tasty sandiwch, I'd come back to try the other options - chips, authentic horchata, or some type of deep fried burrito thing. Plus, its open late -- 5am on Friday - Saturday or Sunday? We all now have an alternative to that korean restaurant that has bad service & bad food. You know what I'm talking about.

I love this place. I have always orderd one of the many tortas locas from the menu. Although the menu will state something like steak and cheese, the sandwiches always include other items like avocado. They have a large salsa bar with about 8 tasty salsas. The biggest problem with the salsas is they all taste so good, it is difficult to decide which one to use. I usually pour some of the salsa on each bite of the sandwich, and vary from bite to bite. Another way to enjoy the salsas is to use them as a dipping sauce for their terrific fries. The fries can also be ordered with queso, so that is another dipping option that is available. So far, I have only covered one side of the salsa bar. The other side of the bar is a small salad bar. Not your typical salad bar, but more of a Mexican variation. It includes. Roasted jalapenos, Pickled carrots, pickled onions, cucumbers, and macaroni salad. I usually grab a few slices of carrots to snack on while waiting for my sandwich to be prepared. This is a Mexican establishment. I am usually the only gringo in the place, and even though I do not speak Spanish, I never have problems placing an order. Picking up the order can be more of a challenge, because the cook calls out the order number in Spanish. Not too big of a deal, because you can always show him your receipt to confirm the number. The challenging part is there are two different order numbers on each receipt, and I can never figure out which one is the one that gets called out.

Delicious Mexican sandwiches! Brush up on your Spanish before coming because this place is the real thing. I had the Tortas Nortenas, a beef milanesa with cheese, avocado, lettuce, etc. Delicious. Also ordered chips and queso. The cheese was pricey, nearly 5 bucks, which surprised me. But good to share. The horchata is rich and tasty, too.

Wham bam shabam! Yum! Tortas Locas = Crazy Tortas! Which also translates to awesome Mexican sandwiches. Not your traditional American sandwich at all though. Which is good. They're awesome! Oh I said that already. Well, they also have tons of salsas/sauces to boot. Dress it up how you like it. Drink this drink: Horchata. It's a cinnamon-y sweet rice milk drink. I think they're originally from Spain, but they are also in Tortas Locas. Drink it. Refreshing, lightly sweet. Ambient statistics: There's hispanic tv goin, which is great! If you're in the mood for a delicious sammich... Look no further.

Tortas translates loosely into sub, hogie, hero - you understand, yes? Here subs are around 6-7 bucks, depending on what you pick. Its been a really clean place the times I've been there, which is usually lunchtime. I beleive they are open until one AM on the weekends, which saddens me when I am in bed at Little Five. Wanting the torta. Needing the torta. The Crazy Sub also sells great tacos, at about 2 bucks a pop - the nice double layer authentic type. Normally they come with the wonderful fresh cilantro and onions, although today it came with cheese and lettuce (did they think I wanted it that way because I am teh IT nerd?). If you're new, try the Tacos Al Pastor, or Sub of the same name - i think the sub even comes with cheese and avocado. The spicy red pork is ridiculously good, and its not too hot. The steak and chicken are also good, as are the carnitas type. Have fun, when we bring coworkers for the first time, we usually get them the Three Amigos - our madeup combo of Steak, Chicken and Al Pastor tacos. This usually guarantees a convert. If your not refluxing, get it with onions and cilantro (like you're supposed to dammit), and then use the very thin green chili salsa from the dipping bar. You will gain much respect from my nerd homies. Speaking of salsa bar, there are approximately 12-15 out at any time, with fresh lime, cilantro, onion, and [other vegetable things I am unable to name for you] sliced up. Enjoy. Oh, and your order number will be called out in Spanish at the counter, so know your numbers en espanol and have a plan for when they go past 100. I usually just run out, but you can probably develop a better plan.

BEST Mexican around. Amazing Salsa Bar. Fresh fresh fresh. You and a date can grub down to the point of a food coma for less than twelve dollars. The staff is so nice. I recommend to everyone that loves authentic mexican delights.

I live in the area and I love tacos, so Las Tortas Locas was a real treat to find!! I haven't tried a torta, sandwich, yet, because I couldn't wait to try the tacos. I had a pastor and a spicy pork, both were delicious with onions and cilantro. A chicken taco comes with cheese. The tacos are about $2.00 each, so they are a steal. There is an extensive salsa bar too. The ambiance is pretty much like a fast food restaurant, but it was clean and the staff were aiming to please. They served no alcohol, which would of complimented the tacos. I highly recommend. However, look close for the restaurant, you can't see it from Chamblee - Tucker, it's on the south side of Chamblee Tucker between Shallowford and Buford Highway.

This really is a crazy place. It was super loud with TVs and people having a good time. Not much on the menu for vegetarians. I had the beans and rice and some chips. The beans and rice were really good and had no visible meat in them. Megan had a torta that was a breaded and fried piece of meat. She said it was good but was wishing she had ordered some other meat product. They have a lot of variety here and a giant salsa and condiment bar. I will try this place again.

Mmmm. I thoroughly enjoyed Las Tortas Locas. I couldn't decide between the Nortena, Mexicana and Texana tortas but finally settled on the Mexicana (steak and ham with fresh cheese). It was truly delicious. The ends of each piece of bread were just a tad harder than I would have liked, but other than that I have zero complaints. The salsa bar is completely amazing. I would have liked the salsas to have been labeled, but not having them labeled was OK too. I just sampled each and every one. The spicy pickled onions are a great addition to your torta. Prices are right, food is good. I'll be back.

This is a the first time actually having a mexican sandwich. My guess is tortas is the mexican (spanish) word for sandwiches. I had the sandwich with spicy pork. The sandwich was not spicy but OK. I also tried the mango and horchata drinks which were pretty good. I think the salsa bar is a winner though. They had a lot of different kinds of salsa. The tomatoes and onions were pretty good. In retrospect, I probably should off load up my sandwich to improve the taste, but I am not a big fan of eating big messy sandwiches. I also tried the their desserts. It was basically a cake soaked in milk. Interesting combination if you never had it before.

Mexican Cuisine
