What a great restaurant, in quaint Canton, GA. Met a client for lunch and between the food, the service and the wonderful atmosphere - well, it was great. I will definitely be back!

As a Floridian traveling in Georgia, I am unfamiliar with local restaurants here. When I mentioned to the woman checking me into my hotel that I planned to get a lobster dinner at Red Lobster, she said, "I heard that Goin' Coastal is better." Having not been to RL in over 15 years and assuming it has not changed much, I liked being able to check out a local place instead of a chain. First off: rock star parking - right in front of the place. That put me in a good mood. Seated right away (just me) and started looking over the menu. I noticed a couple items with lobster, but not a simple baked lobster that I kinda had my mind set on. Next, Laura, my server, came and I ordered a single malt scotch that I had not tried in a long time (Edradour). Nice to have a server who knows the scotch selection without running to the bar to check. I mentioned my lobster desire and Laura then informs me of a Baked-Stuffed Lobster Special offered that night. She could check if there were any left. Fortunately, there was one left - for me. I ordered the sides, salad and sautéed spinach and enjoyed my scotch while I waited. Which was not long. The lobster came stuffed with yummy bits of seafood like scallops, oysters, and such, and was cooked perfectly (if just a touch on the lightly underdone side). The sautéed spinach was fine and when I was finished, the passing bartender (Larry?) heard me mention the word scotch and jumped in, "I've got a great scotch you should try!" He brought me a sample of a very fine scotch which was much appreciated, although this was not the night for me to have another full drink. I walked out happy, satisfied, and eager to return with some friends. (I'll see if I can share a photo of my meal.)

My Husband and I were both looking forward to an awesome meal. This did not occur..Let me start with the very very slow service, had to wait long times to get to order, even drinks.I ordered Oysters Rockefeller and Lobster Bisque to start. The Oysters , while big were not an accepted way of doing this classic.Large pieces of bacon on them without the creaminess of a good sauce..I have had these all over and I sent them back,Small cornbread muffins were served with the apps and they were cold. The waitress brought more that were slightly warm.Next the Bisque had to much wine in it and a distinct tomato flavor that overshadowed the dish. The Scallop Risotto had large perfectly cooked Scallops, but the pesto Risotto was much to acidic.. This was 70.00 for two Not worth the time, Travel or money..Put a real damper on our evening.

Just moved to the area and had dinner for the first time at Goin Coastal. It was awesome. Had the lobster mac & cheese with the crab cakes..both delicious. My husband had a steak and scallops. Said the scallops were some of the best he ever had. Our waitress, Jessica was amazing! Loved everything. This will be our new favorite spot. Kim Brown

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a good seafood place in downtown Canton. Who knew? Anyway, this place only buys certified sustainable seafood which is good to know. The fish seemed super fresh and very well prepared. The server was very friendly and informative on all of the dishes and at the end of the meal let us know that the owner's mother even prepares the desserts from scratch. How could you resist that? Um, you can't. So we even ordered dessert and it did not disappoint. This is going on my list of favorites.

Decided to finally stop in for lunch take-out on the way home from traveling. I was a bit skeptical about the near perfect 5-star rating for a seafood restaurant no where near the coast called Goin' Coastal lol but so glad I tried it. I made sure to sample a few bites while everything was fresh before making an opinion of the food. First of all the location is really nice in downtown Canton, parking for lunch around 2pm wasn't bad but challenging as its on a one way and the gps went nuts. Found it though, look for red tarpe near fire station off Main Street. Coming in I was pleased with the open kitchen concept and exposed bricks, walked to very back to discover a beautiful private dining room with tons of wine bottles. The staff were very prompt and pleasant and was greeted everywhere I went in the establishment. I ordered the crab/shrimp dip, hush puppies, fries, slaw and chicken salad sandwich. The dip was unbelievably delicious and could tell it's a proprietary blend courteous of the chef. The fries weren't just fries, they were packed with truffle and curry flavoring, even the slaw was homemade!! I know I ordered a non seafood item but many restaurants will slack on at least one thing that isn't really their speciality and make excuses but not here. The chicken salad was out of this world with so much flavor and love poured into it. I can tell the chef really loves to cook and create master pieces. I can't wait to come in for dinner sometime with a reservation of course as the waitress kindly recommended. I would have taken pics of the food but would not give it justice in presentation so I will save that for my next dine in experience :)

First time here and it was the perfect evening. Lovely interior, server was spot on professional and nice. The salad was delish, and I'm not one to fill up on salad at a nice meal. Also we got these little garlic muffins and bacon butter...inhaled. Lobster Mac, amazing, coma inducing because how could you not eat it all? Husband got the skinny prep of the salmon from Hawaii. He licked the plate. The blueberry cheesecake was to die for. I'm dead now. The waitress said the owner's mom makes them. She should adopt me.

Tried Goin' Coastal as part of a Meetup Group. The waitress was really good working with the group, I think we were a party of 12-14. The food was good a we all enjoyed our dinner. We shared several of the appetizers and I had blackened fish for my entree.

My family and I came here the night after Thanksgiving to mainly get out of the house and to be honest, we had been prepping for Thanksgiving for weeks. We made a reservation and we were promptly seated when we arrived. I am currently on crutches and the hostess made sure I was comfortable and my crutches were stored away properly which is much appreciated. We each ordered a drink and my dad was automatically drawn to the steak tartar. We received an order of that and then asked our waitress what would be a good dish for sharing between the 5 of us. Aliysis (spelling?), ourtheir waitress, recommended the Dip which is Wild American shrimp & blue crab baked with a trio of cheeses & served with toasted French bread. If you read that description you would know its amazingly cheesy. That steak tartar though...yum. SO delicious. While we discussed what were were going to eat for dinner, Aliysis approached us and asked if we had any questions. My mother and sister had some questions about their fresh fish preparations and which fish would go best with which preparation. Alysis explained every one with great detail and was very helpful. I ended up ordering the Coastal Bowl which everyone agreed was amazing. The Coastal Bowl consists of Wild American shrimp, PEI mussels, scallops, oysters & seasonal fresh fish simmered in a tomato fish stock with andouille sausage, new potatoes & corn. Needless to say it was very filling and appetizing. The food and service were excellent and I will definitely return and recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in seafood. I hope I spelled our waitresses name right because she was awesome and I would not like for her to go unaccredited!

I have never had an issue with Goin Coastal since it opened. I have always rated it 4 or 5 STARS. Then this happens. We were there last Saturday night an had a great night. We go Wednesday for the $5 oyster special and there were none at 7p. We were told they had been gone for quite some time and "the owner never lets us order enough". Then, the Lobstwer Bisque was devoid of Lobster. Again, the wait staff indicated "you should have said something I would have gotten you some Lobster or the soup". Appreciate the offer but it was too late and come on, if the Cooks are payig attention the quality of what is served should not change from Saturday night to Wednesday night. I was upset, we tok friends there specifically for the Oysters and were sadly disappointed.

First time here how have we missed this fantastic gem in Canton. I felt like I was in Destin. Food and service was excellent and the Pecan pie was to die for. We have already planned 3 more times at a minimum we will be here this year in spite of the 30 minute drive.

Had dinner here last night here and EVERYTHING was excellent! Very very fresh seafood! We had raw oysters, the steamed mussels, golden snapper filet and swordfish. All of our food was amazing. The only draw back was the pricing and I was only disappointed because I won't be able to eat here more often NOT because it wasn't worth it. The post about the expensive crab cakes o actually agree on. They did not look worth the price. If you go and rely on this post, go around 5 to 5:30 because they are not as busy and can take more time in preparing your meal. By 7 they were packed!! We will def go back!

Never had perfectly fried fish like this. I would love to learn the recipe and cooking technique that creates this perfection. I have eaten at many places, and tried to fry fish myself many times. Never ever has it been as good as this. My wife had Lobster Roll and it was wonderful. We had an appetizer of mussels with tequilla that was good, but was lacking a true tequila flavor. A party of 4 with drinks,1 shared mussel appetizer and tip $156.00. A little pricey, but will return on a special occasion.

Far exceeded all expectations. My Darling chose this for my Birthday Dinner and it was phenomenal. Food that matches the quality of Legal Seafood in Boston, which is my gold-standard for surf groceries. Good food is not terribly hard to find, however, authentic customer-centric service and attention to detail is. Josh and his Team made every effort to ensure we had a wonderful meal and a wonderful memory. A customer-experience that has made us brand-advocates for this outatanding restaurant.

Great if you like Indian spice on fish and everything else..... I ordered the tile fish... And it came with Indian spice like curry on it. thing was it was supposed to be blackened. The french fries also had some sort of clove and curry on them as well. It would be fun if the spices were light but they overpowered the taste of the food. And since I'm not a huge Indian fan then I really didn't want Indian spices on my seafood

Food was great. Oysters Rockefeller was perfection. Lobster Mac, delish! My scallops were excellent, the risotto was just slightly over done. Our server was extremely pleasant but could have done a better job of organizing the orders and keeping the table clear of empty dishes. My first dirty martini came without olives? Overall a good experience. Definitely will be back.

Absolutely superior food and service to match. Went there on a Friday at lunch time. The restaurant was crowded but the noise level was low enough to permit quiet conversation. We were seated promptly and the server took drink orders right away, allowing us time to look over the menu. When he returned, I asked if it were possible to get the ahi tuna poke that's on the dinner menu. He said he'd ask the chef. He returned a moment later and told us the chef would be glad to make it for us. His willingness to help and the chef's willingness to go "off menu" added significantly to the customer experience. When our lunch arrived, it did nothing to diminish that experience. The poke was outstanding, especially considering that the chef had to prepare it a la minuit. As an entree, i ordered the special, a salmon dish that was cooked exactly to order, well-seasoned and artfully presented. My wife had the fried shrimp, which were fresh, tasty and well-fried. We live in Kennesaw, but will be returning regulalrly to this restaurant for both the service and the food.

Went for my birthday, second time I have been. The waiter was attentive and friendly. Food was out in a reasonable time frame, and nice and hot. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. They had a fairly diverse kids menu, so my 4 year old daughter was happy to pick something (buttered pasta). We started with the Shrimp and Tuna dip, very tasty, as well as some fried pickles. I had the Fried Shrimp and Oysters for dinner, which was very "Florida" style to me. Slightly greasy, but fresh seafood, good batter, all in all very tasty. The sides are really good, I had the cheese grits with sausage gravy, delicious. Everyone was raving about the jalapeno corn bread pudding as well. Weould certainly go back, as it was very tasty and price point was right on for the quality. Well done.

May 27, 2014 I heard of a good seafood restaurant in Canton, GA, Goin' Coastal, so it was time to give it a try. Since we had never been to downtown Canton, this was also an adventure for the family. We arrived for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the place. It was warm and inviting and the menu was seafood, what we were all craving. The lobster bisque was tasty, a nice flavor but I would say a 3 out of 5 stars, as it was too watery for my liking. The Blue Point Oysters were good. We ordered a half-dozen, and received seven, a nice treat. They lady who shucked them did rather well only stabbing two out of the seven. The 420 Fish and Chips weren't a traditional batter, rather too thin so when I picked up a piece of fish, the fish came through the batter. The batter was simply too thin although it had a good flavor. Their homemade "Remoulade Sauce" was delicious but was NOT a Remoulade Sauce, in-fact it was a Dill Sauce. I opted for their Shrimp Etouffee but like their "Remoulade Sauce", it was NOT an Etouffee dish. I clearly had 4 shrimp over grits with a bland orange sauce. I had, shrimp over grits, clearly NOT Etouffee. I will point out that all the food was prepared well and tasty, but the food we ordered was NOT what it should have been. There is a huge disconnect between what the menu states and what they serve you. What I found odd too was their beer selection. They make 420 Fish and Chips with 420 from an Atlanta micro-brew yet they didn't offer 420, Red Hare, or any other of the local Atlanta beers for that matter; rather a $6 IPA from San Diego, CA. I'm still shaking my head at our experience at Goin' Coastal. It was like a poorly written comedy. Oh, and as for the prices, lunch was on the high side at $65 for 3. Due to the above issues, I can only give Goin' Coastal a 2.

I don't even know where Canton is!!! But we got that new fangled GPS thingy and... Nice place. The atmosphere is coolish without being over the top. Service was excellent, waitress wicked good. Informative without being intrusive:) I'm always a-scared of having seafood outside of New England, silly man. First you get the house salad. Very good. Very light on the house dressing - so I'm not sure what flavor it was. May I have some more dressing please:) Next came some cornbread muffins - also good, yet a little on the dry side. Being new to this southern cuisine thing it might just might be they were not the "sweet cornbread" I've gotten used to my 6 months here:) I got the Arctic or was it Atlantic Char? Either way - very good, good in a San Marzano Tomato stew/broth - very tasty. Bonus points for using the San Marzano !!!!!!!!!!!!!! They had Campari - more bonus point!!! Chicken for her. It looked good, but chicken does nothing for me - just know she REALLY liked it:) Triple chocolate mousse pie for dessert! Reasonable bill. A wheelbarrow to get us back to the car. Now where do I live????

Found this place for the first time this weekend. We went for a late dinner - the atmosphere was really very nice and the wait staff both prompt and attentive. I got the coastal seasoned flounder, she got the black bass miso style. The chowder for appetizer was excellent and the dishes were amazing. I have never been a fan of most remoulades but this was uncommonly good. Very seriously some of the best seafood I have ever had. We were blown away by the meal and the chef actually came out to talk to us when we complimented. The place is not cheap but is very much worth it.

The most phenomenal fresh perfectly cooked fish we've ever had anywhere in our life. Seriously. We've never found it this good on the coast. Cozy, hip, relaxed, romantic environment. Hidden gem.

There is a reason this place is slammed. Food and beer selection was phenomenal. Excellent service and the specials that were recommended all were choice. I split all the entrees and ordered a few apps. More than likely I will cut out of work early to get a table. Enjoyed it.

  • C W.

Food was very good, although we didn't have a reservation the hostess was very helpful in accommodating us and rearranging so we could have a table for two. Wait staff very friendly. Only negative is food was a little pricey for area and dish. If you are looking for a good fish type restaurant then check out Reel Seafood in Woodstock, it is very good also.

Phenomenal food. The best seafood in town. I specifically recommend you give strong consideration to their specials. They are designed with a dining experience in mind. Just expect to pay a pretty price. MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!! There is always a wait for a table and it is usually a long one because this place fills up fast.

The food was awesome. My table the got the grouper blackened and the lobster mac. Both were fabulously made and tasted awesome! The salad was okay..I'm not a huge fan of the dressing, it was really lite and didn't really have a lot zing to it. I gave this rating a 4 stars because they had plenty tables and chairs and yet they insisted we wait for a table for 30 minutes that's was already clean.

The lobster mac & cheese is great. The best you you find south of Maine. Reservations on weekends are often needed but you can often find seating at the bar which is a fun place to be or there are a few seats facing the kitchen which is enjoyable to watch. The martinis are well made and the wine list is well chosen.

Pure excellence if you love seafood. Charming restaurant downtown Canton that holds it's own against the best of the best in the USA. Well worth your drive. They also recently expanded and added new booths. It's casual with an upscale dining feel but the staff is down to earth and helpful. I've enjoyed it every time I've been so be ready to try some new great dishes! Leave room for the homemade dessert and coffee :)

My husband and I are from Charleston and we have missed all the wonderful fresh seafood from home. Goin' Coastal took us back there. The food was wonderful and cooked to perfection. We had scallops, shrimp, grouper, filet mignon, she crab soup, beef tartare, grits, greens, the list goes on...everything was awesome. We ate in the dining room and moved to the bar afterwards. Both our server and the bar staff were knowledgable and we wanted for nothing. Overall, it was a very good experience and we can't wait to go back.

One of the best restaurants in Cherokee County. We prefer to sit at the bar for a more social dining experience. The bartenders are great and very knowledgable. For starters try the tuna carpaccio or the shrimp & crab dip. I usually opt for one of the fresh fish varieties; my favorite preparation is Miso - served in a bowl with broth and veggies, however the coastal preparation is good, too. Their jalapeño cornbread pudding is to die for - make sure you get one to go!

One of the tougher places to get a reservation in Canton. Along with Downtown Kitchen, best restaurants in the city. Consistently great food and quality service. Menu has shifted to weekly specials instead of daily specials, and so far everything has been terrific. A "go to" place for visiting family and friends. Only gripe is that they have a bar where they reserve seats for dinner. That bugs me because it's typically impossible to get a drink there when you are waiting for your table.

Excellent food and generous drinks from the bar! Super clean. Friendly, efficient, professional staff. Menu emphasizes locally procured food (which is always a big + in my book). Will stop back in here every time we are in Canton.

I took my mom here for her 60th bday dinner bc we were trying to find a restaurant near her sister in Canton. I guess I can understand why there are good reviews, as I imagine there aren't many quality seafood places in Canton. But the high prices didn't justify the dishes, in my opinion, and that of most of my family. See my pic of the lemon snapper & cheese grits for $26 - it was over-cooked and looked like grilled tofu instead of fish. The seafood fondue dip was meh, and the shared house salad was a neat idea, but was nothing special. I probably would have given 5 stars if my entree had been $10 cheaper, as the quality of food & presentation for the high price is what is driving the 3 stars.

Really enjoyed this restaurant - had dinner there with my 2 best friends who I've known for 29 years now (...good GRIEF I'm getting old...) Apparently Goin' Coastal also has a location in Atlanta; however we ate at the one in downtown Canton. Quaint little space... exposed brick, very "warm" feel. The ambience and quality of the food was top notch - definitely more of an ITP feel... FOOD: I had the Amberjack, prepared with their "coastal" spices, with whipped potatoes and steamed veggies - served with a great spicy red pepper sauce. It was delicious. My friend Sarah had lobster mac-and-cheese; our friend Susanne had Miso Trout... they both seemed very pleased. The only "mis-step" was the flash fried avocado. I love avocado but the breading/frying was simply too heavy... (the delicate taste of the avocado was completely covered up). It wasn't BAD... but just not particularly good. My friend said the shrimp & corn chowder was the best she'd ever had. They also have beef and chicken options for those who don't enjoy fish. SERVICE: outstanding! Great little place!

Excellent, knowledgeable server, wonderful food. Something for everyone. Celebrated a birthday there and had food restrictions which they graciously accommodated, and they even sent out the cook to discuss the needs.

Basic Limeaid Cocktails. Miso pork chops. Those flash fried avocado things. It's all good. Just go! (But make a reservation - you can do it online. Unfortunately, all of North GA seems to have found Goin' Coastal and it's nearly always packed.) Service is excellent and the owners/employees ensure you have a great experience. My only complaint is that the kitchen can be a little slow on busy nights, so order an appetizer and bring good friends for conversation.

My wife and I were in Canton for several days visiting a gated retirement community. We use Yelp when ever we travel, so we made a reservation at Goin' Coastal based on some of the reviews. I have spent 50 years in the wine industry and have dined all over the world. We were not very impressed with our experience. We started with a chilled Melon soup that was delicious. But from there our diner really went down heal. We had ordered Tuna Carpaccio which was cut way too thick and instead of coming on a bed of Arugula, it arrived on some dried out lettuce. Our salad had the same old lettuce. Our main course was Chilean Sea Bass made "Skinny" which was grilled nicely but believe it or not on the same old lettuce with a few Heirloom tomato's thrown in. The wine list is very nice and the waitstaff new the wines discussed, but the overall impression was very disapointing.

This is our 'go to' restaurant. Date night...quick bite....entertaining friends...family night---always reliably impressive. Great atmosphere, make a reservation, or wait-because it is usually packed. It is well worth the wait. Kitchen bar is out favorite seat in the place....watching the kitchen is sort oflike 'dinner and a show'. Food is consistantly delicious. Specials tend to run out and arent available later in the night, which confirn the freshness of all of the dishes. Staff is always spot on. I wish all of the Canton restaurants would follow their lead.

An outstanding find! This restaurant would hold its own against any seafood restaurant I've yet experienced. And they put real emphasis on being a *sustainable seafood joint.* (Visit their website to learn more about what that means.) The bartender (Josh?) took very good care of us and made some good recommendations, which we accepted. Nothing that my fork touched was anything short of being excellent. The lobster dip was still boiling hot when it reached us. Scooped onto toasted bread, it will make you a believer. Hallelujah! But it only gets better. The Shrimp & Corn chowder hits the spot. Chock full of shrimp, corn, and other veggies (with a little tomato & cream in the mix), I would happily make a bowl of this blessed concoction a meal unto itself. We had the Grouper Special--crusted with bread-crumbs, parmesan, andouille, and crab--resting on a sweet-corn puree. Verrrry niiiice. A perfect combination of flavors--combined with another piping hot side-dish opus: the jalapeno-bread pudding (which almost could have served as dessert). Ohmmmm... And now, let us bow our heads for a moment of reverent silence. The Shrimp & Grits is an exercise in perfection. ... Thank you. Please be seated. We ate at the bar, and got to watch the goings-on of the very busy (but focused and strangely peaceful) open kitchen. Service was very friendly, prompt, and precise. Kitchen & work flow is seamless and efficient. The owner (Zach Kell?) oversees the entire operation, maintaining quality control and ensuring the right experience for his guests. That staff really does work well together and their efforts to provide an excellent experience really do show. Even if you're on the other end of Atlanta, I would not hesitate to tell you it's worth a trip to Canton just to visit this restaurant.

My first impression was good- like the location, like the ambience. Then it became a nightmare to get seated despite having a reservation. I get the impression the girls working the hostess stand don't understand how to balance reservations with walk ins, we watched people who walked in get to sit down before ones with reservations. This is why it's worth it to pay someone with experience a few extra dollars an hour to do the hostess job well- just saying. The manager was SO nice and very quick to try to smooth things over- free glasses of wine for our party and came over several times before, during, and after the meal to check on us. The food was fantastic! For apps, we had fried avocado and lobster bisque. The avocado portion was small but they charged us less than the amount listed on the menu so that was fine. Bisque was awesome. Entrees were surf and turf with crab cakes, fried chicken with bacon gravy, and lobster mac and cheese. Everything was perfect- steak cooked perfect and great quality, the crab cake was to die for! Lobster mac didn't have a lot of lobster in it but what was there was cooked perfect and the dish had amazing flavor. Chicken was juicy and the gravy was unique and a perfect companion for the chicken. Had the shoestring fries as a side and they were great. All in all I think this place was great, if the reservation part had gone smoothly, I would've given this place 5 stars for sure. Will return soon!

  • James Z.

I would rate this place a solid 4 to 4.5 stars. The interior is nice with exposed brick and solid wood features which adds to the ambience, The staff is friendly and do a good job. The lobster bisque was decent but reminded me of a light tomato soup. It did however have a good portion of lobster. The she crab soup had a lot of crab and was decent as well but neither was over top. I will likely try a different appetizer with future visits. For dinner we ordered the shrimp and grits and the shrimp risotto. Both were good meals with fresh shrimp. There was a distinct taste of freshness and quality. Both are certainly worthy of trying, they don't disappoint. In the future we will try some of the daily fresh fish offerings and report back.

Last visit not so great, they even ran out of shrimp and even though a party of six had reservations 4 hours ahead they took 30 more min to sit us. Service was upended and the food was mixed, hard to get most of their dishes on a Friday night when they even RUN OUT OF SHRIMP AND HALF THE FISH DISHES!!!! Bad showing this time. If they told us before seating that they had 3/4th of the menu unavailable we would have walked out then and gone elsewhere.

This place was great! Food was spectacular. My wife is not a seafood fan, but she had the AmberJack and cleaned the plate! I had the Char from Iceland (it was flown in the same day) and it was outstanding. Service was spectacular. Meredith was there when you needed her and not when you didn't. Almost a mind reader.... ask for Meredith! I recommend a reservation!

Great food great service! Not easy to find a good seafood restaurant in Northwest Georgia. We went on a Friday around 3 so kinda off hours. We wanted to order off the dinner menu no problem. We had fresh oysters which were top notch. Oysters were fresh and so was the horseradish which comes separate so you can make the sauce to your liking. We both tried the Lemon Snapper which was from Hawaii...finding a fish we have never tried is quite the feat but this was delicious. We had it with their seafood seasoning and it was perfect. Cooked perfect too. We both had cheese grits as a side and they were awesome. The salad was really fresh...kinda small and only house dressing but everything was fresh and good. Yes it is beer and wine only but they are expanding as we speak and adding a full bar. Would totally recommend this to any true seafood lover.

Excellent food. Great find in Canton. I always end up ordering the special and am never disappointed. Love the scallop risotto!

Had the shrimp and grits. Absolutely fabulous dish. Then topped it off with the Triple Chocolate Mousse. I love chocolate, and it was scrumptious, but very very rich. If you don't adore chocolate, stay clear. I only ate part of mine. My only complaint was that our waitress seemed to be in a hurry to move us along although there were only about 3 occupied tables in the restaurant.

Great fresh seafood, service is always spot on, with a very good draft beer and wine selection- what more can you ask for?? Well to top it off, the owners Mom makes most of the desserts and they rock! Very worth the ride out to Canton and you don't have to deal with traffic in downtown Atlanta!

This is one of my family's favorite places! Everything is good, but the shrimp and grits, crab legs, and oysters are some of our top recommendations (in addition to the tasty cocktails). The wait staff is friendly and treat you like family.

Once you walk in the door you'd think that you were instantly transported to Charleston, SC. Reservations are highly recommended, as this Canton, GA restaurant is always filled to capacity during dinner hours... and it's easy to see why. Located in a part of the outer-lying metro area sprinkled with a smattering of so-so chain restaurants, Goin' Coastal really stands out. But, this restaurant would just as easily be suited in Buckhead or Savannah's waterfront. Goin' Coastal bills itself as a sustainable seafood restaurant, meaning that the seafood is caught or farmed in a sustainable manner, minimizing the environmental impact. Every item on the menu is at it's freshest and nothings is compromised. My North Georgia trout was light and flaky, topped with three plump shrimp that snapped when I bit into them. Prepared just right without heavy sauces covering the tender flavors of the trout. My wife had the pan-seared Diver's Scallops the diameter of a Brave's Baseball and about half as tall. I had to have one for the propose of this review. Again, done just right... medium-rare. If you rarely travel OTP (outside the perimeter), this Downtown Canton jewel is the perfect excuse to see what lies up I-575.

Great food, great service, cool place. It's a great spot for lunch of dinner. The have lobster on many Monday nights, yummy. If you go for lunch the Rock Shrimp tacos are awesome.

Best seafood in canton. Staff is on point and the food is even better. Yes it's pricey but good seafood and excellent service isn't cheap.

Wonderful spot in an area that is in the process of rejuvination. Food was great, ambiance was very cool, and great bar drinks. Drink pPricing seemed steep, but the food was great. Loved the freshness aspect of the fish.

What a killer meal! Ate here last night with my family for my birthday dinner, and everything was fantastic. Service was present but not intrusive. The space looked like it belonged in the middle of New York City; definitely a treasure in downtown Canton. Our food was delicious, every bit of it. Although this place specializes in seafood, I've got to say the Pecan Pie was the night's stand out. Don't get me wrong; the seafood was all fantastic. But that pie? Oh man, best I've had in the South, no joke.

Went for lunch. The place is a quaint shotgun style space with multiple 4 seat tables down each side and middle of the restaurant, unless of course you sit perched in front of the window as the "retail" display. Overall food was pretty good (other than one specific dish) and I will be going back because of it. Here is a run down: 1. Oysters on the half-shell. Ameri-pure Gulf Oysters, big, fat, fresh and damn delicious. 2. Fried alligator tail: Nice chunks of alligator unlike what you get at most places. Chewy goodness. (sauce was a little sweet but good) 3. Oyster Po'boy: High quality fried oysters in good bread with lettuce, tomato and aioli. Fairly good. 4. Rock Shrimp Tacos: This is where it all when wrong. Rock shrimp was pretty much undetected in this dish as it was over battered, over cooked and the citrus slaw / chipotle sweet sauce they put on it is not overly great either. I would at least like to taste the shrimp instead of over-fried battered nuggets. Also served on store bought flour tortillas, which doesn't do anything for the dish either. Fresh corn tortillas from Buford Highway Farmers market would have mad the dish much nicer. Won't order that one again. So overall very promising if you throw out the Rock Shrimp Tacos.

Seafood? The first place I think of for fresh seafood is downtown Canton!? I was introduced to this place for lunch this week and very impressed. Their shrimp and corn chowder was excellent and I enjoyed a grass fed hamburger. I'm looking forward to going back to this place soon. My only concern is their price point seems to be a little high for the average resident up here and the place is pretty small for a restaurant.

Goin Coastal was recommended by a friend so last night my wife and I jumped on the Harley and rode up for dinner. What a great experience. We couldn't get a reservation (they were full) but we found two seats at the end of the bar. Turns out those were the best seats. Josh the bartender was awesome, he kept us entertained and was passionate about his craft. The food was fabulous, the wine good and the ambiance great. I had the New York strip and the rub on it was awesome. My wife had the special which was some sort of fish on top of kale with other flavors running throughout it. Unbelievable and the prices reasonable. We got our under $100. Anywhere in Alpharetta and you're look at $125+ for that meal. Go, sit at the bar, and enjoy.

Wow, I really wanted to like this place! It's very noisy and cramped. Party of 4 was seated right away and drinks brought quickly but waited forever to order and even longer for the food. I was served some very good she crab soup but without a spoon to actually eat it. My soup had cooled before I was given a spoon on my second request. My crab cakes were cool as well and tasted overwhelmingly of Old Bay seasoning...very disappointed. Shrimp and Grits tasted great! I love the concept but the execution was sub-par.

I always feel bad for a town when a business review starts with, "and you won't even know you're in X" :) but that's how I felt when eating at the Canton branch of Goin Coastal....it feels big-city hip/urban but coupled with terrific waiters and (at least for lunch) a super-reasonable price. We had a party of 10 who had driven up from the coast for a family matter and even they raved. Highly recommended.

My husband and I decided to visit this restaurant last Saturday night and after reading the reviews here, wanted to arrive for an early dinner to avoid the wait and crowd. Well, we arrived around 5:45pm and while we were seated at a table without any wait, were surprised at how many tables were already full (probably 80%). Our waiter greeted us and asked if we would like to hear about the sustainable nature of the seafood served. I said yes and he told us that the fish is flown in fresh twice a week and every day they get a list of which fish can be ordered based on sustainability. The list comes from someplace in Monterey, CA. I thought this was very interesting and enjoyed the waiter's descriptions. He then described the specials and brought us a bottle of a NZ Sauvignon Blanc. To start, we ordered the Oyster Combo so we could try all 3 kinds of baked oysters: 1) Rockefeller, 2) Blue Crab Stuffed, and 3) Parmesan Garlic. All three were very good and tasty, our favorite was the Blue Crab Stuffed oysters - next time we'll just get those. Oh my, the crab was combined with 3 different kinds of cheese and was rich but not overly. Just a perfect blend with the oyster! For dinner, my husband ordered the Lobster Ravioli and I had Pan-Seared Scallops. Both were really delicious and the Scallops were perfectly prepared. I was impressed witht he Tomato and Cucumber Salad as a side, it was fresh and bright with a Greek dressing -- very refreshing. Our food came out in a very timely fashion but we didn't feel rushed at all. The service was very good. I only wish they would have a standing wine chiller, because the wine bottle took up a lot of room on our small 2-person table. I was glad we went early because it was raining that day and there is really no good place to wait on a table. This is a gem in Canton and based on the reviews and also the full tables, I'm optimistic it will stick around and we'll definitely go back.

We have been both to Canton and Virginia Highlands. This restaurant is amazing! The menu is innovative and everything is extremely fresh. The she crab soup is delicious as well as the lobster and fish specials. I would recommend Goin Coastal to anyone that wants fresh and sustainable seafood!

Goin' Coastal is simply amazing food. What they may lack in exoticism, they more than make up for in skill and rock-solid recipes. This is a gem in the North Georgia mountains.

This restaurant is excellent. I agree that it really stands out in this area, and could easily be among the better restaurants located in Atlanta. I sure hope that it isn't too fancy for the area; I would hate to see it close down...but the crowd around here seems to think Outback is big time fancy. We had the lobster ravioli, steamed shrimp plate, and blue crab dip. Everything was cooked perfectly, large portions and the fish was very fresh. Service was very attentive. We definitely will go back soon. It is pretty small, you will want to make reservations on the weekend!

Finally had a chance to try Goin Coastal. Have seen it several times while downtown Canton. We dined there Friday night. Everything was perfect. From the service, to the food. We had their She Crab soup - it was fantastic! The cornbread was yummy, little sweet, yet spicy. Hubby had the fried catfish, he said it was some of the best he had ever had. I opted for the shrimp and cheese grits. WOW, was it great. Had never had anything quite like it before. The tasso gravy really knocked it out of the park. Then finished off where their special desert, krispy cream creme brulee. WOW. It was like nothing we had ever had. We will definitely be back. Felt the prices were spot on for the quality and atmosphere.

The wife and I ate for the first time at Goin' Coastal. It was terrific. I had tilapia with the Coastal seasoning and remoulade sauce and she had lobster mac and cheese. Service was top notch, atmosphere was perfect and we will definitely return.

The best seafood available locally. The best service I have experienced in quite a while. They know the menu and the libations. Very helpful. I enjoy the sustainable use of seafood served. Being aware of what is sustainable is important if we all want to keep consuming great seafood. Going Coastal does a wonderful job of making excellent seafood taste as good as it gets! I loved the fried oysters wrapped in bacon appetizer! I have been there 4 tiimes and have never been disappointed.

This is the ONLY seafood place in Canton and certainly stands alongside any seafood that you can get in a coastal town; to my experience anyway. I had the striped bass which was the best I've EVER had. I would die to get my hands on their collards recipe. The cornbread souffle was fantastic but then, I like sweet foods. The remoullade sauce is amazing too. The place was quite noisy and I felt like booths really would send this place over the top. All tables were 2 or 4 tops. Eclectic, "warehouse-ish" atmosphere. They close at 9 pm which is a bit of a disappointment since we tend to be late diners. I would go back here time and time again.

A great locally owned seafood restaurant. Fresh seafood is flown in daily, and I've never had a bad meal. One bad thing about living in Canton is the big restaurant chains dominate. This is one of few good places to eat in Canton.

I agree with the other reviewers, the concept is great. When we went, however, our server harped to us incessantly about how natural everything was, blah, blah, blah - ok, I get it already. The menu is very limited - food was good, but not great. It was quite crowded, and people waiting for tables pretty much stand around in the restaurant watching the other diners eat - doesn't really promote hanging around much after you've eaten. For our small town of Canton, it's nice to have a seafood alternative - but if I'm craving seafood, and not in a hurry, I'd probably head off to Alpharetta or Atlanta. This place just seemed a bit trendy to me.

This is the overall best place to eat in Canton. I'm a downtown local and I love this little gem. I'm actually more of a regular for lunch, the rock shrimp tacos are like crack and you can eat like a king for $8. Dinner is equally amazing though premium price for great seafood. From halibut to local trout it's all good, delicate, and always cooked perfect, if it isn't you can send it back without issue. Great beer selection in a city that thinks Bud Select is nice, Fat Tire on tap as well as other GA microbrews. A spicy cornbread pudding is amazing but I usually go with a a veg of the day or corn on the cob. The honey vinaigrette dressing is great on the fresh salad. This place is simple done well and gets my only 5 star rating to date on Yelp. If Canton could replicate this quality in other areas, this little city would thrive.

I really like most everything about this place. I didn't need the reservation I made, I went on a Wednesday night, and there wasn't really a lot of people there at all. We had crab legs, and they were great. The cornbread soufflé was okay. The collard greens were reaaaaaally good!

Love the food, the atmosphere, and the staff. It's in my list of "must visit" restaurants when I'm home from school in Kansas. Their oysters are fresh and succulent, their gator tail is crispy and flavorful, and their jalapeño corn bread is simply amazing!

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. Don't get me wrong this is a good restaurant and I appreciate the sustainable fish approach. As I travel often I reserve my stars for truly great restaurants. I will continue to eat here when I visit the area and would recommended this restaurant. My only complaint would probably be pricing levels on wine and the despite what others said a rather poor beer selection.

A very nice atmosphere. It is quite unique to the Canton area and a nice break from the chain restaurants. My wife and I stopped by for an early dinner (5pm) with no reservations. We had no problems getting seated since they were about 20% full. Within the hour the place was packed. Although the food was good, the prices were a bit more than I think the food was worth. You are paying for the atmosphere and the "sustainable seafood" (if that means anything to you). I took a look at their menu prior to visiting and noticed that the links for the lunch and dinner menus pointed to their lunch menu only. I am guessing that is an error but they may be wise not to fix it since their lunch menu and prices are a bargain compared to the dinner menu. I was impressed with the lunch menu selection and the prices I reviewed on the internet. I was not so impressed to see the dinner menu when I arrived. I was very disappointed to learn that they did not serve fish tacos at dinner (they were on the lunch menu). We went there specifically to try the fish tacos. I believe this is a fine lunch spot. You will get a good meal in a nice place for a reasonable price. I feel the dinner menu is a bit over-priced.

Great place!!! Loved it. Food was very delicious, even collard greens. But if you are looking for huge portions, probably not the place for you. I loved it, would go to this place any time.
