I absolutely agree with previous reviewers who chose to take a break from the I-95 redundancy....finding this refreshingly yummy little bistro well worth getting off the beaten trail. Based upon other Yelp reviews,we actually revised our itinerary to spend the night in Brunswick so we could visit this restaurant. We were both very glad we did! I am giving this eatery a five-star review because ALL of the elements we enjoy in a dining experience were there....fresh, local, creatively-prepared food served in a cozy setting. The vibe between the owner, staff, and patrons was extremely friendly and welcoming. The staff seemed to really enjoy working for the owner, who is involved with EVERY aspect of the restaurant...including bussing as necessary. (Yet, she took the time to personally greet every table of diners.) Gotta love it!

This is my favorite place in the area. The food is great - always something new on the board with the owner's special twist. Service is A+ every time. I have to say the artichoke dip might be the best I've ever had. They put sun-dried tomatoes in there that make it out of this world. I've had a number of different menu items and have never been disappointed. Last visit I had the special - blackened shrimp with black beans and rice and slaw. Excellent!

Excellent! A definite hidden treasure in downtown Brunswick! We sat outside under the tree and thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Indigo. Discovering that the owner is the daughter of the force behind former Atlanta top-dining spot, Indigo in Morningside, explained why this spot is extraordinary. We will be back.

Love, love, love Indigo! My absolute favorite meal is the Italian pasta! I cannot say enough good about this place! The hummus and grilled veggie appetizer rocks! I have the chocolate bread pudding for dessert every time! Don't miss out on this downtown gem!

Absolutely fabulous! One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Every morsel of food was bursting at the seams with flavor. I did not dislike a single thing anyone ordered. How often can you say that about a restaurant? I wanted to order every menu item, but settled for the fish tostadas, which were superb. The chef/owner greeted us at the door and clearly take a ton of pride in her restaurant and the diner reaps the rewards of her effort. I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!!!!

My wife and I just finished an amazing meal of fresh seafood here. I can't believe we found such a gem and it's all because of the positive yelp reviews that we located it on our trip down south. Awesome food, friendly service, happy tummies!

Fantastic little downtown bistro specializing in all kinds of fusion cuisine. It's a shame they're only open during lunch, but they're working on extending their hours. The menu selection isn't enormous, but it's wide enough, and if my experience here wasn't a one-time deal, I'd assume it's all quality. In addition to their daily specials, Indigo's menu rotates around their "signature plates," which include the fish tostada, the jerk chicken, the pork picadillo (a pork loin), and the fisherman's bowl (a fish and shrimp dish). There's also a few interesting sandwiches (the "Raj" Burger, topped with mango chutney, sounds like something I'd like to try), along with good salad and vegetarian options. Great prices, too. I went with one of the three daily specials on my visit here: the fried green tomato sandwich (also available were a Thai noodle dish and arepas). Served on a bun, the fried green tomato slice (breaded rather than battered) came with a schmear of boursin cheese and a few slices of applewood-smoked bacon, all dressed up with a roasted red pepper coulis and topped with mixed greens. Quite delicious, though I'll admit that the flavor (probably the combination of the coulis and the boursin with the already tart tomato) was a little strong by the end. I'd probably ask that the chef go a bit lighter on the coulis next time. Still, I can't recommend this place enough. And after just one visit!

We found this restaurant from Yelp! and it was the best recommendation!!! Outside it looked closed but inside, it was clearly open. Our food, catfish, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits were some of the best dishes we have had. the sauces and mixtures were unbelievable. We shared a special dessert of peach pound cake with carmel sauce and homemade ice cream. We loved it so much that we could have licked the bowl. Can't wait to get near Bruswick again soon. It is a short drive off of 195 and well worth it.

So great! I did not know this place was here. Great food and service. I loved the jerk chicken and tasted the meatloaf. Out of this world. This chef is the is the best!

Really great cuisine. Creative menu items with great and savory flavors. We lunch here frequently and have great service and great food. The pineapple upside-down cake is outstanding for dessert! Enjoy!

Very good food in a very charming spot. Eat on the patio! We had fish tostada & fisherman's bowl. Perfectly spiced with complex flavors. Worth the trip off I95 for lunch!

They are aces at preparing tofu for all you vegetarians out there. Love their Pacific Rim Salad.

  • Kate S.

Indigo's is a true gem! The fresh flavorful food served here will leave its mark on your taste buds! It will have you coming back for more! I haven't had anything I didn't like here. Some of my favorites are the Bohemian Chicken Curry, Fish Tacos and Raj Burger. I love to start out my meal with either the plantains or artichoke dip. If there's gazpacho on the special's menu, it's awesome!!

Awesome! We stopped at this place while driving down to Jacksonville after a few days in Savannah and we're so glad we did. My wife ordered a pimento grilled cheese, which is something that old people eat. (Well, at least my grandma did. She loved that shit. I haven't encountered pimento cheese since then. Anyhoo...) I had their special--Mahi Mahi with isla slaw and sweet potato fries. The fish was perfectly cooked and the jerk seasoning was awesome: sweet with the right touch of heat. It was also served with a pineapple salsa that added extra sweetness and acidity. The slaw was super tasty and complimented the fish really nicely. It was dressed with some combination of rice wine vinegar and sesame oil. They twice fried their sweet potato fries so that they were extra crispy yet soft on the inside. What a great find! Great, friendly service too! Don't be put off by the outside of the building, which I'll admit isn't much to look at or the fact that it's on a side street. You've gotta check this place out. It's only a matter of time before Food Network profiles this place!

We stopped here on our recent road trip south. If you are looking for a place to eat in the area this is it!!! Great staff, great food, great atmosphere. Only reason we did not give 5 stars is some of the sides were a little cold. But all in all a awesome place to eat.

We stopped in Brunswick for 1 night on our way from North Carolina to Florida, and selected Indigo Coastal Shanty based on reviews here on Yelp. What a find! The food is truly exceptional - unique, flavorful, and fresh. Service is excellent and friendly - there were clearly many locals and regulars eating there, but everyone (tourists like us included) was visited by chef Kate as she checked on our meals. Great options for vegetarians (try the tostadas w/tofu). A small but varied selection of domestic and craft beers and a solid wine selection. The building really is a shanty - but don't let appearances fool you. Our meal here was the culinary highlight of our trip. One in our party went so far as to say that the Bahamian Chicken Curry dish she ordered was the best curry dish she has ever had. This place alone is worth the trip to Brunswick!

Awesome and cheap. Very interesting and eclectic menu options, and what a great meal.

    (5)
  • Brad C.

Don't let the location or street side look at the building keep you from stopping to eat here. If you do, you'll miss out on a great dinner! We had the Charleston Sauté (their version of shrimp&grits), and a daily special; chicken in blueberry BBQ sauce (sounds strange but was very tasty with plump fresh blueberries!). I will say if you like predictable flavor or bland food, this isn't for you, but if a little spice and local flavor suits you, this is a must try for sure. The only downside was the noise level as the small dining area filled up, but it wouldn't keep us from going back, just try a little earlier in the evening.

This place was awesome! Read the Yelp reviews and headed straight here for lunch on a road trip to Florida. I thought it might be closed, but what a warm welcoming spot! Food was great; imaginative, and bursting with flavor. I had the Cuban sandwich which was wonderful. Can't say enough about this place. Don't miss it

I was just passing through, hoping to avoid fast foot along the highway and Yelp came up with Indigo. It was totally worth the 10 minute drive off the interstate. I had the fish tacos, the place was busy with pleasant people, service was great and the food was tasty! I only wish I lived closer, I'd be a regular

My wife and I spent a week on Jekyll Island, GA. To say the least, the choice of restaurants on the island is disappointing. After several low-end meals, we consulted YELP to see if there was anything in Brunswick that would be a step up. We read the reviews of Indigo Coastal Shanty and decided to give it a try. That was one of the best decisions we made on the trip! Our first meal here was just outstanding. My wife ordered the Fisherman's Bowl and thought it was just terrific. I am a vegetarian and there were many vegetarian dishes listed on the menu. I ordered the Jerked Tofu Tostada Plate and it was amazing. The service was fabulous and the waitstaff new every ingredient in every meal. On our last day at Jekyll Island, we had planned to leave first thing in the morning. Instead, we delayed our trip a few hours until Indigo Coastal Shanty opened so we could eat there one more time before heading home. My wife thought the Fisherman's Bowl on the first trip was so good, she ordered it again. I ordered the Tofu version of the Pork Picadillo. We were so glad we delayed our return trip because the food was just as good the second time as it was the first. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

Found this restaurant by accident today and LOVED it! Had the Fisherman's bowl - different fish, shrimp in a tomato broth with couscous -- Incredible! If you can, sit outside and enjoy!! Friendly staff and great food!! I will be visiting again very soon!!!

  • G. D.

Awesome food. I have tried the fish sandwich and the pimento-cheese burger ( i can't remember the exact names of the dishes), but it was excellent! The cole slaw is pretty good as well. Good service and nice atmoshphere. The plaintains and the dipping sauce is delicous!

    (4)
  • Rebecca J.

The food here is unparalleled. Many of the dishes are inspired by the flavors of the Carribean, Asia, and Latin America. But Buck's Meatloaf is an all American powerhouse! The chicken liver linguine is to die for! The deck is the spot to be. The service is amazing. Can't get enough of this place!

along with Cargo, the best dining experience in Brunswick. more affordable and casual than Cargo. Wish they served liquor (they do serve beer and wine). local flair and great seafood.

Worth the drive into town from the interstate. Really good, fresh food. Outstandingly friendly staff. It's true that the menu isn't extensive, but there is surely something for everyone. Desserts were well worth the splurge. Easily better than the last 5-10 meals I've eaten out in Orlando. I highly recommend it.

Indigo Coastal Shanty is located at 1402 Reynolds Street in downtown Brunswick. Indigo Coastal Shanty was opened a couple of months ago by Kate Buchanan who was one of the past owners of Cargo Portside Grill. The Eclectic restaurant is currently only open Monday thru Fridays from 11am to 3pm. They hope to start serving dinner in March on Friday and Saturday nights. This was my first visit to Indigo Coastal Shanty and for sure will not be my last. The food presentation was great what an experience for my taste buds. They try and have a daily special and soup every day. I had the lentil soup with plantains and it was exceptional. My son had the Fish Tostada which was a crisp blue corn tortilla topped with black beans, isla slaw, grilled fish and fresh pineapple salsa. It also came with black beans and rice. AT had the Mediterranean Veggie Stack which were grilled season vegetables with hummus layered & drizzled with a roasted red pepper vinaigrette and crumbled feta cheese. My wife had the Jerked Chicken which were two large chicken breast served with Jamaican spices for a touch of heat. It was served with black beans and rice, pineapple salsa & a cooling dollop of sour cream. I had the daily special and it was great but I cannot tell you what is was, because it was so unique. We all cannot wait to make a return visit to try out some of the other dishes. Get there early because this is a very small restaurant and has already been a hit with the locals so the line starts forming around 11:30 or before.

Indigo is one of the best restaurants in Glynn County! Everything is so fresh and so delicious. The service is super. Kate (the owner) always makes it a point to come out into the dining room to check on you and her staff is just attentive. Another thing that I love about them is that they are happy to modify a dish if you ask...It's a real treat to dine here. (Just wish that it was a little bigger place - it is SO popular!)

Stopped by while driving through Georgia on I-95. It was definitely worth the significant detour. Small but creative and tasty menu. Friendly staff and filled with locals. Recommended.

Yelp doesn't lie- this place was amazing! We were traveling through and stopped in because of the reviews. The staff was so friendly, even the bus person greeted us and made us feel welcome. We had to wait a few minutes for a table (they didn't have a single empty seat when we walked in) but we were given drinks and made comfortable. Once we sat down we ordered several appetizers- the sweet potato fries (from the side dish section, but we asked for them as an appetizer) were out of this world. Our food was fantastic too; the only complaint was from my 19 year old who said her dish was a little rich. Delicious, but rich; she couldn't eat it all. Mine was perfection, not too rich at all, so if you aren't a fan of rich food make sure to ask your waiter/waitress before ordering. Speaking of which, our waitress was warm and friendly and she knew her dishes! I can't wait until our next trip so we can stop back by there again.

We used yelp to choose this restaurant on our trip and were not disappointed. Fisherman's Bowl was delicious, meat loaf sandwich too , very friendly folks!

  • Emme C.

It was okay. We went there for dinner. The host greeted and sat us down immediately. We had plantains for starter, which I was a little disappointed with, I was expecting fried soft plantains but they were similar to banana chips, okay that was my fault, the menu said plantain "crisps". The chicken curry was missing an ingredient, like salt or fish sauce. The rice that came with the fried catfish was hard. Average price per dish was about $15. The servings were ginormous, they were kind enough to split a dish to two plates. Our male server was nice.

We found this restaurant thanks to other Yelpers, and boy are we glad we did! Driving with 2 kids under 4 for over 9 hours, we were hungry and tired and wanted to be taken care of. Indigo Coastal Shanty was just the spot. We arrived at about 7:30 on Saturday evening and the restaurant was about half full. We were given the option of outside or inside, choosing inside because of the humidity. It's a small place with a real coastal feel. The menu is on the short side, but what food they have was great. My husband and I both ordered the Golden Monkey beer (yum!) and the Charleston Saute entree--just the low country cooking I craved. The staff was attentive and friendly, without being overbearing. The kids were given crayons and construction paper upon seating. The kids menu is really small (3 items) and on the pricey side (about $7), but the staff maintained they could customize another menu item for kids. We decided to go with the plantain appetizer and rice and beans side item and split it between the two. The kitchen divided it up for us and the kids were in heaven. We live in South Florida, so my kids know Cuban food, and they were not disappointed. The desserts looked delicious, but we were too tired and full to order. We would definitely go back if we were driving up through Brunswick again.

This is a favorite of ours. I don't know what I love more about this restaurant, the food or the wait staff. Every time we go here, we are treated so well and I'm never disappointed in what I order, even though it's almost always the curry! The past two years, I have had my birthday dinner here with a good size group (12-15) and they always take such good care of us and celebrate with us. I truly hope this wonderful place never closes! We love it!

Unbelievable! What to get when literally everything on the menu is a home run. We are frequent visitors to Jekyll and each trip down gets a visit here . We haven't had a bad meal. Staff is great. They are attentive, helpful and oh so pleasant. This place is so much more than the exterior would have you expect. Go in enjoy.

  • Amy W.

Wow, was this place delicious! We had the fried plantains to start, which were delicious and served with guac that was expertly made (and I am a guac snob if I do say so myself). For a meal I had the jerk fish tostada which was incredible! Well seasoned, cooked perfectly, and a perfect lunch portion. We split a spice cake which tasted like Christmas. The last few bites were a tad sweeter than I usually like, but I think it's the sauce on it. It was very good! My daughter had a grilled cheese and sweet potato fries on the kids menu, and don't be surprised that we nibbled on that. Very good sweet potato fries and she approved of the grilled cheese! Lastly, the waitress we had was totally awesome, friendly, and just a good person. I wish I could remember her name... she's only been there for half a year I think - she was just so pleasant and made our experience so great!

This is likely the best place to eat in Glynn County. The other reviews do a good job of detailing the food aspect of Indigo. In terms of the logistics, this place is worth the drive from the interstate (ten minutes from I-95), St. Simons Island or Jekyll Island. You will always see a line at lunch but you can get in and out within an hour or you can linger longer if you wish. And kids are welcome here (we have a four and five year old)

Always awesome. Definitely worth the drive from jekyll or st. Simons. Great atmosphere with food that is a highlight of every trip down to Georgia.

Indigo Coastal Shanty is a standout among a handful of decent places in the Golden Isles and surrounding area. It's AMAZING and modestly priced. This place is so good that I visit every weekend for dinner. I'd probably go during the week too, but they're only open for lunch M-F. I've tried three of the daily specials which were all excellent. On the regular menu, the catfish is my favorite. And I don't even like fish. The meatloaf is better than grandma's -- anyone's grandma's. Among the desserts, I have tried, the warm cajeta sundae was the best.

  • Jeffrey J.

The most Awesome Lunch creations in the most unlikely place. 1 block off the main drag (Gloucester st) - definitely sit outside, on the Deck, under the Live Oak Tree. Great sandwiches and Salads of all kinds! A local's "Secret"!

  • Danielle W.

Don't let the shabby exterior fool you. This is the best restaurant for miles! The food is delicious and they have great specials as well. After three months at the FLETC cafeteria this place was a welcome surprise. My mouth started salivating as we walked in from the amazing smells and the food didn't disapoint. Highy recommend the plantains as they are crispy and come with delicious guacamole! Also make sure to save room for dessert!

  • Mary K.

This place was recommended to me by a local. I went for lunch and ordered the Jerk Tostada with fish. It was delicious, with just the right amount of spice. I also ordered the Pac-Rim Noodle Bowl and the Chocolate Bread Pudding to take with me to eat later for dinner. Everything was delicious! I will definitely plan to return the next time I am in the Brunswick area.

We stopped here on our way to Savannah and were so glad we did. The curry chicken was delish as was the meatloaf. The servers and the owner, Kate, were very friendly. They also hustled to get everyone seated as there seating was limited and they had quite a line. We will definitely return if given the opportunity.

The Mahi in crayfish reduction was amazing as was the pimento burger. The staff was so warm and friendly. Only wish I had room for dessert.

  • Josh S.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, shanty is a fitting name. However, do not let this stop you from going. I had the appetizer nachos, green chile chicken arepa (day special), and the spiced rum cake for dessert. THE BEST MEAL IVE EVER HAD. We had amazing service also. Worth the money/lots of food.

  • Jeff T.

My wife and I met her mother here for lunch on a rainy January at noon. I have to say that from the outside of the building I was a little skeptical of the food here, but the Yelp reviews said it would be good so we gave it a shot. All I can say is it is by far the best restaurant meal I have had on this trip. The plantains with guacamole we had as an appetizer were delicious. I had the pimento cheese burger, which filled me up completely. I was full for hours after that. My wife had the fish toastada, which was also quite good based on the bite I had. The staff was friendly and quite attentive - my drink never was less than half full! I would definitely eat here again if I was in the area.

The food is honestly the best in the area. It is delicious and the service is friendly. Try the plantain chips! They are great!

Oh my goodness! I grew up in Brunswick, but since I've moved to Savannah, rarely come for a visit. I'll definitely change that now that I've discovered Indigo Coastal Shanty! Housed where Bluebird Cafe once was, it's adorable inside and out. I had the day's special Alabobba, I think is what it was called. It was curried chicken served with couscous and ribboned cucumbers. Aaaaamazing! And their fried green tomato appetizer served with grits (yes, with grits) was superb!!! They're only open on Friday and Saturday for dinner, and Tues-Fri for lunch. A must go!

  • Andrew D.

This is a near-perfect little restaurant - and hard to categorize. I'll spare you the stupid description like "upscale Nouvelle Southern casual", and besides, there was Indian and Jamiacan on the menu, and they managed to pull everything off very well. We stopped here for lunch on a 12-hour drive between Florida and NC. Everything on this list was great: **Plantains with avacado dipping sauce **Calypso salad **Bombay Chicken Salad sandwich Nice atmosphere inside, nice little patio outside. Not only would I go back - I would plan an itinerary around stopping here again for lunch.

  • Lindsey A.

This is def. one of the best places to eat in Brunswick. Great variety and service. The owner and chef, Kate, is such a sweet person and is always on hand to make sure your dining experience is flawless (and let's be honest ... it usually is). I've never been disappointed here. Whether you're on St. Simons Island, Jekyll or in Brunswick, it's worth the trip. Try it! I swear you won't be disappointed.

This restaurant is wonderful!!! I had the Bahamian chicken curry, it was ready in about 3 minutes (I'm not exaggerating). I say outside on the porch next to this beautiful huge oak. Their entrees are $10 and up, but I'm getting 2 meals out of it and it is really really good. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Eclectic menu. Some new takes on old classics. Something for everyone. Highly recommend Buck's Meatloaf Sandwich. Quaint little restaurant in downtown Brunswick. Good for a quick lunch.

  • Scott S.

The menu is eclectic but everything we had was great. I had a blackened fish sandwich with Asian slaw, my wife had a jerk chicken tostada, and we shared fried plantains. They were all great. Prices were a little higher than your average sandwich/tostada place, but only a little. We did have to wait a few minutes for a lunch table. This was a great place.

  • Martha A.

Amateurs need not apply. It is funky and happy and seriously exceptional food.. The place is happy, the owner happy, wait staff happy and food over the top happy. There could be a wait. It doesn't matter, no matter how long. Go in, get a drink, shut up and wait. IT IS WORTH IT.

  • Lan S.

Note that this place is closed more often than it's open. We made a special trip on a Thursday evening, and it was closed. In fact, looks like it 's closed every night except Friday and Saturday, and it's closed all day Sunday and Monday. Is this typical of Brunswick? Does everything downtown shut down most of the time? About all we saw downtown were sketchy looking people and police cars on patrol and stopping suspects. Sorry, not my kind of place!

I'm giving 4 star to this place because is a good value for money, the decor is simple but cool and the staff is very nice. And of course the food is good. We had -pimiento cheese burger *** - chicken curry (it's almost so soft as a xacuti) ****

Fabulous lunch. Came recommended to us by some locals including a chef. They accommodated our group of six and we were so glad we went. Don't miss the guacamole appetizer.

We just loved this place -- their hospitality was so great, we almost felt like guests in their house. We reached after they closed and yet they let us sit for 90 mins. Their service was the best -- they gave us two servings of ice cream for free! Glad we could make it because their menu was incredible -- really eclectic. The food tasted very good. We liked everything -- plantain chips with guacamole, tostada, pac-rim noodles, and chocolate pudding. I just wish they were located in a better area -- St Simons, perhaps.

We always try to find an interesting restaurant for dinner when we're traveling. After reading reviews of Indigo Coastal Shanty, we gave it a try. It was Friday night, and we had a short wait, but everyone waiting was so friendly, that added to the ambience. They all gave us recommendations of their favorites. Although the specials were very tempting, we went with the Charleston Sauté (a new take on shrimp and grits) and the jerked tostadas. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. The fried okra served with the Sauté were the lightest I've ever tasted. We saved room for dessert and shared the spice cake with caramel sauce and pecans-much like sticky toffee pudding-and absolutely delicious. Servers were helpful, but professional. Just a fun place for a delightful meal. We would definitely search it out again.

  • Frank V.

The jerk chicken tostadas were phenomenal, the plaintains with avocado dip were excellent and their Shanty Fire Sauce was very, very tasty with a great kick. Second time I have been here and brought my coworkers - everything was excellent. This place is one of Brunswick's hidden gems! Looking forward to our next visit with great anticipation,

What a place! I was in town visiting relatives who go to this place on occasion. I can see why. Hell, I'd go every other day! Its a smaller place about a block or so from downtown Brunswick. Theres some tables inside and a good size deck outside. Parking is a decent size lot next to the place. You get the sense this place is pretty laid-back and in some ways it is. Depending on when you go, wait time to be seated can vary. They're only open for dinner on certain nights (when I went) and you can wait a little longer, but it was only about 15 mins for inside seating for our party of 4. No biggie! While you wait, they have specials on a chalkboard behind you, that you can read over. They all looked good. Once seated, service was prompt and very friendly. Some of the other patrons seemed like regulars and gave it a sense that this place has earned a good following. You also got a sense that everything was genuinely good from the food, to the employees, and overall experience. The food. The menu seems to have the perfect amount of choices. ALL of them seem good. I chose the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. They were delicious and I wanted more but I'm glad I didn't because my entree was even better. I ordered the Bahamian Curry Chicken and it was amazing. It was a little larger portion than I needed, but I ate every last bit of it. My friends were equally as impressed with their food. Theres really no going wrong with whatever you order and the pricing is right where you'd expect it. I wish there were more places like this around. I find myself lusting for more of that bahamian curry chicken on occasion. If I ever find myself down that way again when they're open, I'm stopping in for a bite. (less than 30 mins from I-95).

Great for foodies! A true flavor dance. I previously lived in Philadelphia, and this place could compete with some of my favorite Stephen Starr venues. On a busy Friday, Valentine's night, the wait was not long. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. The service was great! It was tough to pick just one dish. Luckily, they are willing to make anything to order. My mom selected the special and substituted shrimp instead of salmon. I had the fried green tomatoes and tostados. Reasonably priced. Everything was superb!

We have gone out of our way the last two trips from Michigan to Florida, just to eat here. This place is a gem wish we could stay longer to experience the whole menu. A must is to talk to the owner / chief.

Looked forward to a great meal after a long week and stumbled upon Indigo Coastal Highway. So glad I did! The staff was welcoming and attentive to my very thirst-full needs, never letting my drink go dry. I opted for the evening special, "Venezuela something..." Wish I could pass the name along, it was a very tasteful dish with beef, blackened beans, rice, and slaw. My dinner partner had jerk salmon, it was amazing, just as flavorful and done so well. We saved room for dessert, and shared the pineapple upside down cake, and it was very satisfying as well. I am only here for a few weeks for work, but I look forward to my next visit, a repeat is in order!

Every time I come to Brunswick, I try to time so I can stop for lunch. The food is always creative and more importantly delicious! On my most recent trip, I came long after the lunch rush was over and both owners came over to talk to me and make sure my food and service was good. And the food was fantastic. I tried one of the chalkboard specials, Pork Picadillo, which was bone in pork with onions, tomato, olives and more things that disappeared from my plate so quickly I did not notice them. In fact, I was too full for their delicious pineapple upside down cake for desert. No worries, I got it to go because it should not be missed.

Funky location and building, delicious, fresh food, unusually down-home service and reasonable prices. This place probably deserves four and a half stars. It's a Southern/Caribbean blending of palates with familiar dishes -- spicy jerk chicken and shrimp and grits, for instance -- given some new twists by a smart but not overly complicated chef. It's a small-town restaurant that could easily make in a bigger-city setting, we believe. We'd rate it the best we've found n this area, though this area doesn't seem to us to be overly blessed. Sampling several items -- fried green tomatoes, calamari, shrimp & grits with okra among them == we came up only with winners. The kitchen goes for what's fresh, and that pays off. A blackboard lists the specials, and the servers explain them; simple but yummy. You can order entrees but also sandwiches and sides. The menu is limited, so don't look for one of those buffet-type restaurants with something for everybody. Selectivity has it rewards. Beer and wine are available, and the wine list, very small, has been carefully and well chosen. Seating is limited to a dozen or so tables inside and a patio with seven additional tables. In other words, come early. Our only disappointment: the pineapple upside cake, rated highly by others, was good but not exceptional; wish we tried the strawberry shortcake instead. But that's just a cavil. We recommend the Shanty. We'll be back often during our visits to Brunswick.

Stopped by when we were passing through town based on all the positive reviews, glad we did! Cute outdoor patio, friendly service, and excellent food! Everything on the menu sounded awesome hard to decide, reasonable prices too.

We stumbled upon this restaurant after reading the reviews on Yelp while passing through Brunswick (actually drove 10 miles out of our way to visit the restaurant) Amazing! Had the best meatloaf sandwich with homemade pimento cheese and real fried okra (not frozen)! Everything on the menu sounded great and all the dishes we saw at other tables looked amazing. Had to wait about 15 - 20 minutes for lunch, but it was well worth the wait!

When I am in Brunswick, which I contrive to be a couple of times a year, I usually eat at Indigo every single day. This is the best place to eat in the greater Brunswick area, and I include those fancy islands in that. Kate is the daughter of the people that used to own the late and much missed Cargo in downtown Brunswick and her culinary pedigree is excellent. In fact, she's recently put one of my favorites from Cargo on the menu (the sesame catfish) and gave it a tasty new twist of her own. I'll start with the most important thing: the food. The menu is "coastal" in the sense that it's got a fair bit of seafood, pan-pacific rim basics ranging from Thailand to Mexico, all spiced up with some good Caribbean jerk sauce, and finished with a hearty dose of down home Southern comfort touches. Does this sound like a culinary mess to you? It's not. In fact some of the flavor pairings are downright brilliant. Plum miso and tartar sauces on fried catfish? Oh my yes! My favorites would pretty much be everything I've ever eaten here. I'd be really hard pressed to choose one. However.... Appetizers: The fried green tomatoes, now served on a bed of amazing grits, are awesome. The plantains with fresh guacamole? Also awesome. As is the artichoke dip. I always get the tomatoes because it is hard as hell to find good FGTs here in the cold and frozen north but you won't be displeased with any of them. All the salads are good, but the Pac-Rim Noodle bowl is my favorite. It's big enough to be a meal by itself. Also, if tomatoes (red ones) are in season and Kate makes gazpacho...get it. Entrees: Whatever is on special is usually a good bet. From the regular menu the fisherman's bowl is just the yummiest bowl of seafood stew I've ever had. Last time we ate here it was a bit chilly and we ate outside and this warm bowl of rich tomato based broth, shrimp, and tilapia goodness was absolutely perfect. I also love the sesame catfish, which is a giant piece of catfish served over rice with the above mentioned sauces and some of their delicious tangy slaw. The Mediterranean veggie stack is a vegetarian's dream of grilled veggies, red pepper coulis, housemade hummus, and feta cheese. I could go on and on about the food but you probably want to know about other things. The ambiance is "island casual": bright colors, bare wood floors, sunny windows, friendly atmosphere. The dining room is usually crowded so eat outside on their lovely deck under a stately live oak if you can. The beer and wine menu is limited but has very good choices (Allagash and Lagunitas, for example) and there is usually something special to try. This must be a wonderful place to work; the same staff have been here since I started eating here several years ago and they are all great. They will make nearly any substitution you like (jerked tofu on that salad instead of chicken? sure thing!), cook your food however you like (jerked, blackened, grilled, etc), and innovate upon request (if they have fresh fish in and Kate offers to cook it up special for you, take her up on that. You will not be sorry.) This is a laid-back, pleasant place to eat, full of good food, good people, and some excellent memories. If i could afford a personal chef and kitchen and thought I could steal these people away, I'd do it. As it is though I must content myself with dreaming of my next visit. Can't wait!

Indigo Coastal Shanty is not very impressive from the outside, but inside the food is amazingly good. The appetizer of home made tortilla chips dipped in an artichoke sauce was a great starter. The Prince Edward Isles mussels were free of pearls, cooked nice and soft and bathed in a Thai pepper sauce that required this diner to sop it all up with the homemade bread. My partner asked for a vegetarian platter and exclaimed at how well the chef had concocted this custom entree. We shared a toasted coconut cream tart for dessert. With one glass of wine and a generous (for me) tip, we spent $52. Not that we care much, but the service was excellent, wait staff all over the place, offering timely assistance. Interior tables are plain, but remember this is a shanty by name. The proprietress was out that night catering an event at City Hall. Anyone who has attended the dinner movie nights at the Ritz Theater--not to be missed--will not be surprised that its caterer offers dinner at her place at the same fine standard.

This is my favorite restaurant in Brunswick for lunch. We went on Friday and it was packed as usual. Kate (the owner) promised it would not be a long wait and it wasn't. We had a wonderful server who gave us the rundown on the specials and decided to get a cup of gazepacho as an appetizer. It had a perfect blend of spices and danced around in my mouth. For our main course we decided on the grilled veggie salad. It was amazing. Absolutely the best salad I have ever eaten.

Wow! We've been driving the east coast for a few weeks eating at diners and out of the way spots. Our last day we hit the jackpot in Brunswick. The Indigo has a unique take on island fare mixed with Indian flair. The chutneys, curries and flatbread blend seamlessly with gazpacho, coastal seafood and grilled fish. Fortunately, the Indigo is only an hour from our family in Jacksonville, and the drive is more than worth it.

  • Ja M.

Epicurean delight! Indigo has the best food in the region, offering a wonderful departure from traditional fare. I would classify this as "casual southern fusion" (didn't know there was such a thing until Indigo). Pros: excellent cuisine, reasonable prices, attentive service, coastal casual, accomodates dietary needs, vegetarian friendly Cons: small and busy so usually a short wait, lacks ambiance-it's small but not cozy, location-downtown off beaten path and no view from deck

Indian/Mexican/African/Southern goodness! Great service and inviting atmosphere. Efficient kitchen for sure. Really enjoyed the specials and the dessert. Flexible dining options. Get there early for a table. Would highly recommend.

Thank you Yelp!!! We were vacationing on Jekyll Island and growing tired of the limited choices so we decided to venture off the island to this highly rated restaurant. Its not the typical looking place you would just stop at if you were just driving without knowing how highly recommended it is. The restaurant is relatively small so we had about a 20 mins wait but the friendly and attentive staff grabbed us drinks to sip on until a table came available. Everything we ordered was tasty!!! To start we ordered to artichoke dip with blue corn chips and plantain chips with avocado dip. Both were filling and big portions. For dinner I had the fish tostadas-amazing! The tilapia was cooked perfectly and so tender!! The spices worked perfectly.. Beware though, the heat could be too much for some! My husband opted for the pork stuffed chile relleno and our friend had the raj burger.. Both were raving about their dishes. All in all we are so happy we were able to find this place (special thanks to yelp!) and if we are ever in the area again, we will be back!

This is a unique restaurant hidden away in Brunswick, open for lunch and dinner on the weekends. The menu is great with a hint of the islands. The beer and wine selections are good. The service is exceptional with good parking, but seating is limited. Kate, the owner is the daughter of the owner of the departed Cargo restaurant in BWX, who previously operated Indigo's and Partner's in Atlanta. Fans will recognize some of the dishes. A renovated deck is now open. The 'locals' love this place.

Best of the best in downtown brunswick! I don't think I've ever ordered anything that wasn't absolutely amazing. Some personal faves: -fried green tomatoes (best I've ever had and I've had 'em all over the south) -chicken curry (the ultimate winter comfort food) -shrimp n' grits (they call it Charleston sauté or something....but it's great) -fried catfish Order the special when you can. They are always fresh and wonderful. The portions are generous and the service is impeccable. You can dine under the huge live oak on the deck almost year round. Such a great little place!

We came here because of the good rating. I am also really disappointed that it's not a chain! The food is literary 5 stars, ( so it deserves the rating) and with a reasonable price.

Quaint atmosphere with fresh food that came out quickly. Even the chef visited our table! All of the wait staff were great! We had the jerk chicken, fish tostadas, charleston sauté, and fried green tomatoes. The spice cake is incredible!!!! We will come back when passing back through to Florida.

You can find Indigo Coastal Shanty in Brunswick Georgia - this is a small restaurant with a big deck and plenty of flavors. It's also the one of the best restaurants in Brunswick and the surrounding areas (like nearby St Simons, Sea and Jekyll Islands). Emerging like a phoenix from the ashes of the popular Cargo Restaurant in downtown Brunswick, chef Kate B. and crew opened this down-sized establishment to thrill locals and visitors with world coastal cuisine. More than a Caribbean restaurant, Indigo Coastal Shanty fuses Asian, Indian, Creole, African and other exotic flavors into a melange of taste sensations at very affordable prices. This small restaurant powers a spice-filled one-two punch of great fresh ingredients with beautiful preparation and presentation, something you rarely see in remote destinations, yet tucked away in this little corner of Georgia. For full disclosure, I have a bit of a connection with Indigo Coastal Shanty and the chef, Kate B, having originally worked with her at Indigo, her mom Alex' place in Atlanta (Indigo Coastal Grill on N Highland Dr). This was the last restaurant where I worked as a chef before hanging up that hat and taking up software development. What I love about Indigo Coastal Shanty is that there are many very familiar items on the menu, only subtly different enough that the offer something more, a true improvement and interpretation of what we had at Indigo in Atlanta. The original restaurant is missed to this day by locals, but can be re-experienced down in Brunswick for those both Jones-ing for the original and looking for new vistas. I joined several other previous Indigo employees at a bit of a small reunion that centered around the visit to the Shanty. Besides plenty of rest and relaxation at the local beaches, we all enjoyed our visit at the restaurant and a sampling of what it had to offer. Curried Mussels - these are pot-cooked mussels in vino and curry for an exotic aroma and flavor - delicious Crispy Fried Plantains with Avocado Puree - this is an old standby from the Indigo days and a great starter. Jerk Chicken with black-beans and rice, slaw and pineapple salsa - another very popular Indigo dish and one of my favorites from back-in-the-day. Often copied by other restaurants but always lacking in that certain something - this is the real deal at the Shanty! Charleston Sauté... Shrimp with ham, tomatoes, peppers and fried okra served over cheesy grits (the original dish we called the Low Country Saute - this is definitely an improvement!) Pineapple Upside Down Cake - delicious mix of sweet and sour tangyness! Cajeta Brownie - not one can resist the power of cajeta! My other recommendations are any of the Southern favorites like the Fried Green Tomatoes and of course the great craft beer selection. Also, check out the fantastic deck for a nice dining experience under the perfect blue skies! In ll, a fabulous evening with great food, good friends and fantastic memories!

My experience was technically a 3 1/2 star one but I'm rounding up rather than down due mainly to the stellar service we had. Ok, here's the dish... Location: ICS isn't really in a shanty but it's definitely off the Island and in the more historical industrial area of downtown Brunswick. It's a tiny place (maybe seats 50 comfortably due to some ingenious table arranging) where the parking lot is twice the size than the actual establishment. Oh, that parking lot. It blows. It's got potholes a foot deep and people seem very confused whether they're driving in, out or parking. But in a place where parking is prime, this is a great (albeit very bumpy) benefit. Inside: It's pretty clean, a bit cramped but more on the 'cozy' side than the claustrophobic one, a bit congested at the narrow doorway entrance hallway thingie, and it's busy. Very busy! Folks are constantly moving and shaking! Don't look for booths or padded chairs because they have neither but our chairs were comfortable enough. I would also say that parties of more than 6 might be pressed for space or a longer waiting time for seating due to space restrictions. Decorations are definitely a coastal theme but not chintzy or silly as it looks like a lot of love went into the place. Food: We ordered a Fried Green Tomato Sandwich (with crisp applewood smoked bacon, schmear of creamy boursin, spring greens & red pepper coulis - 7.75) Jerk Tostada (with crisp blue corm tortilla, topped with black beans, Isla slaw, lightly jerked fish or chicken & pineapple salsa; served with black beans & brown rice - 9.50) and a special of the day that was similar to the Tostada but different meat and salsa components. The Tostada was served hot and tasty. While not necessarily creative you could tell the ingredients were fresh and the portion was generous without being ridiculously huge. The other two items - Tomato Sandwich & Special - were not up to the bar set by the majority of reviews on YELP. The tomatoes were hard and an inch thick. The 'schmear was much more like a glop and completely obliterated the taste of anything else. The special was served ice cold which we were told was correct presentation. Alas, it didn't work well as a chilled dish since it felt more like leftovers. I feel that we might have a) ordered the wrong dishes and b) maybe caught them on off day. I could tell that this place really strives to bring a great experience to people but it just didn't happen for us. Sides were simple and nicely, if a bit blandly, executed EXCEPT FOR THE FRIED OKRA! That stuff was incredibly good and I could've eaten my weight in fried noms. The other sides include: Black Beans & Brown Rice - 2.50 Isla Slaw - 2.50 French Fries - 2.50 Sweet Potato Fries - 2.95 They're extra, obviously. So, a lunch can set you back $12 easy but that's NOTHING compared to most of the prices in the area. Having grown up on SSI in the late 70's thru the early 2000's, I'm always amazed at how many places overcharge their clients. This is not the case here even with our meal being less than perfect. Dessert was The Island Spice Cake (served warm with vanilla bean ice cream, dark rum salted caramel & spiced pecan. - 4.95) which had way too much salt and rum. We didn't finish it but the ice cream was nicely done. Service: Unfortunately I've failed to recall the name of our server but she was *excellent*. My Dad is quite the character and he loves to ham it up when out in public. He means well but I'm constantly guiding him back to food land when he tries to tell long winded stories to very busy waitstaff. Our server was genuinely nice to him and beyond patient with his rambling. She went out of her way to try to make our experience better even if it didn't culminate in the meal we'd hoped for. Because of her we *will* be returning to give ICS another try in the very near future. So, again, 3 1/2 stars rounded up to a generous 4 for service effort.

Everything was yummy. One person had the special (something with chicken and curry) and it was good. One person had the sesame catfish it was crispy moist and not fishy at all. The best dish was the jerk fish tostadas. It was not my dinner but I got 3 bites and it was the best. The parking lot looked full, but we were immediately seated outside. The service was fast and the wait staff very attentive. If in the area again I will definitely be back!

This place was excellent. Started with the Calypso Nachos, excellent with jerked chicken with guacamole. I had the Charleston saute, shrimp with grits, and fresh fried okra, my wife had chicken Piccadillo excellent and my son had the fishermen bowl. All were outstanding. We did have the Cajeta sunday, a Mexican brownie with I cream, whipped cream and a Carmel sauce that was very good. Service was exceptional, all the staff made you feel like a regular. I highly recommend this restaurant, and will return whenever we are in the area.

This a super cute hidden gem with great food. The fried okra is not to be missed. I also ordered the noodle salad, which was fresh and tasty. It was nice to see some vegetarian options - something I didn't see on most menus around Brunswick. Everyone was super friendly and sweet. I will definitely be back!

Call me crazy, dumb, or just a real foodie. I drove 45 minutes north to eat lunch. That's alright I drove 65 minutes north 2 weeks ago. I am in search of new restaurants wherever they might be. Yes I am a smidgen crazy but I am who I am. I found this place in Brunswick on here with some help from a friend of mine from Tenn. The place is close to a shack. it is small maybe 30 chairs. The staff is very attentive and really want you to have a good meal. They are all helping anywhere and everyone that they can. If you need they will get. I went with the stockpot special of fusion gazpacho of seafood with a kick. this bowl was so yummy I almost ordered another and blew off the rest of my lunch. But, If this is that good let's see what else they can come up with. With my next selection I went onto the regular menu and got the Fisherman's Bowl with local shrimp and fish. This was a fresh tomato based chowder style dish with plenty of fresh vegetables. It was the bread that really rocked the dish. I forgot to ask if they made it or if it was Mallory's from Spouse's Bakery's bread. It was very fresh and had a fantastic flavor. Now this place is a wonderful restaurant and if I lived closer they would probe;y know my name.

"a tasty preface to our lowland weekend of thanksgiving gluttony!" Holidays here we come..,, After doing a quick search on yelp, we decided this was going to be our place. They were most welcoming here to us and our 10 month old. My favorite dish of all Was the jerk salmon with rice and beans... Yea, I ordered the calypso salad with jerk shrimp which was good, but I immediately had food envy and had to indulge in my husband's dish. My daughter even had her first bites of salmon here. The kicker was the spice cake topped with vanilla ice cream and crunchy bites of ginger... Think of a gingerbread man but a cake! Amazing! Go.....

Very small place! There is outdoor seating. The menu isn't that big. The service is great. The staff is nice. I've had Caribbean food before and this is far from it. However it has a Mexican fusion to it. So its a but different. But still not what I expected.

Their food is fresh & very tasty. My friend had Salmon, with fries, rice & beans. He was completely satisfied by every little detail, including the sour cream on top of the beans. I had breaded chicken liver mixed with pasta. I'm not a big pasta fan. But their cream sauce made the pasta taste Amaaazing! Mini coconut tarts from the dessert menu were phenomenal. We even ordered 2 to go. I'm glad I found this place because they have meals that are difficult to find. I will be back to try their Chile relleno with picadillo. Customer service is superb. They're very humble & attentive. I've never had a better experience. They made sure we were completely happy w/our order.

I had a wonderful experience at this little restaurant. Hospitality is at its finest here! They have a wonderfully exotic menu that shows a passion for fusion cuisine with throwbacks to the Caribbean and South America. The food was delicious, but even more impressive was the warm and welcoming hospitality of the staff. They were totally focused and genuine in their service. I would definitely come back if I ever find myself in the area. Don't let the funky dining room fool you. This little place is first class :)

We were travelling south on I95 from Vermont down to Miami. We wanted to find something other than chain fast food where we could sit outside and eat with our dog. We were so lucky to find Indigo. The most pet-friendly place. They brought our standard poodle, Darwin, his own bowl of chicken and rice on the house. I had the gazpacho soup and jerk shrimp noodle bowl salad. Everything was outstanding and the staff was very nice. Definiely a memorable part of our trip. Thanks Indigo!

Stopped here recently on a road trip to Charleston, SC. I have to say that this was probably the best meal we had on the trip! If you are visiting one of the nearby islands, do drive out to Brunswick for this super delicious meal! It doesn't look terribly fancy, I fact I was a bit skeptical when I saw the exterior of the building but it is warm and delightfully friendly inside. The servers greeted us with warm smiles and were extremely hospitable! I haven't experienced that anywhere else in the country yet. We ordered the plantain chips with a creamy avocado dipping sauce to start with. The plantain chips were freshly made and SO yummy! Couldn't stop reaching out for more. It was quite a generous portion. For main course, the husband ordered the Jerk Chicken which was served with black beans & brown rice, pineapple salsa & a cooling dollop of sour cream! I got the Point Loma Fish Sandwich (blackened). The spice rub on the fish was just brilliant! Do stop by, I promise you won't be disappointed!

This place truly deserves five stars. I have eaten at hundreds of yelp four-star restaurants. There are very few restaurants which rank in the five star category; they must be creative and offer new dishes that work. Unbelievable food. From the sweet potato curry chicken to the jerk chicken fiesta saladto the other world-ish chocolate bread pudding.

We really enjoyed our lunch here as we headed down the coast to Fernandina. Cute coastal decor and really friendly service. I had the fried green tomato sandwich and I loved it. The fried okra was not quite as crispy as we would have liked but it was still good. My husband had the tostada with chicken and he liked that a lot. Our only knock was it was a little bit pricey for sandwiches that don't come with a side at all. Overall, great find and we really enjoyed it!

Every time we come here, I always want to try something new. Several times we went for the daily specials and were never disappointed. Staple favorites on the menu are the Jerked Tostadas, Bombay chicken salad, Bahamian chicken curry, plantains & artichoke dip - can never go wrong with these items! I now have a new favorite to add to that list - the sesame crusted catfish is now one of my new favorites. Would recommend this place if you have never been.

Wow! What else is there to say? The Indigo Coastal Shanty has an eclectic array of delicious food, ranging from coastal, to southern, to worldly. The menu has just the right number of items from which to choose, and all of our choices were delicious. I wanted to mix up my dish and change the protein, and the chef came back with four or five options, which was really nice. We had a little problem with one of our dishes. It wasn't a huge deal as we still had plenty to eat, but the chef came out and immediately apologized and offered an array of options to make it right. She was really great, and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were satisfied. That meant a lot. I've read so many reviews of restaurants making excuses for why problems exist, never offering to fix it. This restaurant does it right. Ok enough about problems, let's talk dessert. Scrumptious, delicious, delectable... How else can I describe the multitude of flavors in these homemade desserts? Don't leave without trying at least one (or two). You should go here. No need to look anywhere else. Just go. Why are you still reading this? Go there now!

A hole in the wall joint. Locals took me out here when I visited GA. I enjoyed the small family feel, however, inside the restaurant felt a bit tight. Service was awesome, some of the friendliest people. Atmosphere was really warm and welcoming. We ordered the chicken nachos and WoW! It's a must have. The salmon salad my friend ordered looked to die for. I got the chili reyenno entree . Their dinner portions were quite large which I loved .

The dirt parking lot was a little off-putting at first, but overall this place is awesome! I would recommend sitting outside of it's nice out, we did and we loved it. Of the four of us, we all loved our food. The fish tostadas were amazing, as well as excellent service.

We had lunch today with my wife's cousin. Lunch was awesome! I opted for the pimento cheese burger w/ sweet potato fries, my wife had the meatloaf sandwich and they actually had an item for our dog, chicken and rice ( he loved it!). This is a hidden gem off the beaten path, but well worth the effort to find it.

We were just passing through and saw all the great reviews. It was delicious! I had Bahamian Chicken Curry and my husband had a special of beef tenderloin tacos. He devoured his, as I did mine. My husband also had the Spice Cake dessert also delicious, very sweet. We will be coming back!

This place has something special, I mean something so special, I visited over 3 months ago and am still thinking about how delicious the food was! We started with the veggie pesto soup, which I was supposed to share with my fiancé, but decided to eat myself after he went to the bathroom. And yes, I would do it again. Fiancé ordered the fisherman's stew, which was really delicious, but I was pretty distracted by my blacken fish sandwich. Yes, blackened fish sandwiches are pretty ubiquitous, but I am still thinking about this one. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned! Fried okra and service were awesome too! So glad we stopped to check this place out!

Excellent lunch spot! Freshest fish this side of a shark's dinner table! The Fried plantains were soooooo good!!! I also had the gazpacho, okra, and Jerk fish. Man.. I can't wait to go back!!!

Not a bad place. When we came not sure if the ac was broken but it was hot inside. Service was good and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We started with the plantains with avocado dip. The plantains where good but the avocado dip needed some love. I would recommend a different dip if they have it. I think this starter could be so much better with a better dip. We also tried the black bean burger with the sweet potato fries. I would recommend this meal. They were good about telling us the veggie options and they substituted meat for tofu for the Jerk tostada. My wife felt it would have been better if it was not so spicy, the beans and rice were dry. We also had the brownie desert, this was ok but nothing amazing.

I had the Bahamian chicken curry based on the glowing reviews. It was pretty good, but it wasn't great. The lemonade was very strong, so I asked to have it mixed half and half with water. That made it just right. Our waiter was very enthusiastic and courteous. They have a house hot sauce that, if you like spicy food, you should try. It's delicious. The reason I give three stars instead of four is because when lunch costs me $15, something needs to justify that price, and though the food was good, it wasn't that good.

A five-star dining place located in an old house which is deservedly described as shanty. The interior is furnished with old furniture, but with quite an ambiance. The place is small and fills up quickly with people at lunch. There is even a line for the people who get there in the midst of lunchtime. Parking was on a grassy dirt lot and I wonder why they don't pave it considering the brisk business they do. That said, the food and service at this restaurant were incredible. We were greeted by a very nice and friendly waitress (-cum owner?). I ordered the blackened salmon on a bed of vegetables. It was amazing! The fish and vegetables were fresh and perfectly prepared. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food which was reasonable priced considering the quality of the food they served.

We really enjoyed our lunch today at Indigo Coastal Shanty. Got there about 2:30, they closed at 3:00. We ordered the plantains with guacamole and fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes was on the menu as a sandwich but they made a nice app for us instead to share. Three of us ordered the Fisherman's Bowl and I ordered the Bahamian chicken curry. Loved it!! We finished with Coco Poppers which was a mini coconut cream pie, just a couple of bites but a perfect size for after a nice meal. The waitress was amazing and all who worked there were so friendly. If we are ever passing through again, we will be sure to stop!! You should too!!!

Fantastic Bahamian Curry! The service was quick even during the dinner rush. This place is really working the "shack" in their name with low ceilings, a somewhat small dinning area, and seats packed in close. It feels cozy and warm. It's not great for quiet conversation, but it is a great experience and great food. The prices range from $12 to $18 a plate.

My friend and I were coming from the beach and wanted to grab a nice bite to eat somewhere close. I'm down from Virginia visiting my best friend at Fort Stewart and neither of knew anywhere offhand to eat. We saw this place on yelp and the name caught my eye. We were greeted by a very friendly woman who sat is immediately. Our waiter was timely and attentive and we started out with the Mezze hummus appetizer, which was delicious (feta and super fresh parsley, so good). Then we both ordered, my friend had the pimento burger and I had the special of salmon over creamy corn risotto (they were both amazing) and our food was there in a very timely manner. The most outstanding part of our visit involved the couple and their two little boys who sat next to us. One of the little boys wanted a Shirley temple, but they didn't have any cherries. A member of the staff went to the store and picked up some cherries to make the little boy his drink. I have to say I'm highly impressed; this is the kind of customer service that brings people back again and again. Great food in a cute homey pale with a wonderful staff who goes above and beyond? I'll give that a grey rating, and I'll be back next time I'm in the area!

This place is a hidden gem. The owner is great and has brought unique but savory food to Glynn co. Everything is wonderful but you have to have the pimento cheese burger... It's the best. The chicken salad is curry flavored and delicious (served at lunch). If you have room get the pineapple upside down cake with homemade whip cream, it's delicious. The atmosphere here is cool and something different with a Caribbean feel and very friendly staff.
