Very good homemade ice cream. Funky space. Good service. A must see if in the area. Plenty of parking. Oddly enough,I Jakes shares the warehouse building with an excellent pizza joint .

Finacee, pup and I stopped here on our way home after dinner on the beltline. We tied pup outside because she wasn't allowed in. They have a nice patio with some tables and chairs. I think that this place is either connected to or right beside a pizza joint, so that could be fun, getting pizza, beers, and ice cream all on a patio. We just got the ice cream though. I ordered a mint chocolate chip and fiancee ordered cookie dough. I was not overly impressed with either of the ones that we got. They were decent, but they tasted like they had a lot of ice crystals or water in them. Not sure exactly how to describe it or if it was intentional, but it was more like a cross between an ice-cream and an icee. Kinda peculiar. I have never had ice-cream with this texture before, so oh well.

Sluggish and inattentive employees. The floors were dirty and I spotted a cockroach! That's disgusting! On a more positive note, they had tasty icecream. the flavor rail was foggy so I couldn't get a glimpse of the aesthetics of the individual flavors. :( 2 stars for ice cream quality.

While visiting Atlanta during her college years, my girlfriend's bro luckily brought her to Jake's. It's there where she indulged in delicious cold ice cream. Now, ten years later, we both live in the A. And when I asked my girlfriend, "yo, where can we get some ice cream?" she wildly responded, "we need to go to Jake's! OMG, I want Jake's now-now-now." lol. So off we went. I. FOOD They have ice cream and sorbet flavors for days, and most of them are really unique! And if you're not feeling these cold treats, they have tons of baked goodies. (Although, I'm not sure why one would visit Jake's if he or she didn't want ice cream.) Back to the ice cream, though, their cream is nice and smooth. A patron won't find any grainy or custardy-ness at all (which is how I like it). Since it was my first visit, I only tasted three flavors: *Chocolate Slap Yo Mama: Chocolate chips, Oreo cookies, and chocolate sauce -- if there was only one scoop left of this amazing-ness, I would strongly consider budging in-front of a long line of grandmas and grandpas to get it. Does transcendent ice cream trump Southern hospitality? Possibly. *Coffee Toffee: I usually like my coffee flavored ice cream obnoxiously overpowering, but I could totally appreciate the subtleness of this one. I would've also liked more toffee chunks in mine, too, but I know my homie Jake was just looking out for my waistline. *Peanut Butter & Jammy: Whoa. It actually taste exactly like a P&J sammy! That's crazy! --Even though this wasn't my favorite, I give them mad props for pulling this one off. II. SERVICE They are sweet as a Georgia peach! (I'm sure this line has been used many times.) Seriously, though, I loved their staff and appreciated how cheerful they were despite it being 10-10:30pm on a Saturday. III. ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR It's small and quaint inside with farm-like tables and chairs. Regarding their patio, it's somewhat spacious with several tables for small groups; however, there's no light at night. (Literally sitting in the dark on a picnic table.) I think some stringed lights would help with this. IV. PRICES Not bad at all. I think I paid somewhere between $3 to $4, for two scoops of ice cream in a cup or cone. Great value! V. OVERALL I love their ice cream, and I'm sure I'll consume much more of it. To hell with beach-body season. Lol.

Having set out on the BeltLine with plans to end at Jeni's, we decided to stop here on the way too (they seem to specialized more in baked goods, despite the name) -- went with Limoncello mascarpone and coffee & donuts, after sampling key lime and breakfast in bed. Not too impressed, especially given the prices for the quality -- shake and a cup for $4.50 + $3.95 + tax.

Wish they had butter pecan more often. They have some weird choices sometimes and occasionally there won't be one that I like but the ice cream is really good. They rank #2 in town for me.

OMG! It's all good! I've had many flavors now. I think my favorite is Chocotella. It's usually hard to narrow it down to one (or two) flavors to get. They change and add flavors all the time. The liquor ones are great, too. I love ice cream that is soft and this fits the bill! Try it. You won't be sorry!

Last Saturday night, the line of customers was out the front door and the parking lot was full. Fortunately we were able to find a space nearby on Sampson Street. We were in line for about ten minutes before we were close enough to read the menu of ice cream flavors. Usually, the purpose of a menu is to help you understand your options so you that by the time you get to the front of the line you know what you want. One employee did a great job of removing flavor name tiles from the board as they sold out and replacing them with the ones that were still in stock. The trouble was that I couldn't figure out all the flavors based on their name. For example, one was called "While We're Young," a tie in to the Ben Stiller movie of the same name. I like ice cream, I like Ben Stiller but WTH does "While We're Young" represent? I still have no idea. To be clear, I appreciate Jake's creativity. I just don't think it's helpful to include a quirky name without also including a description about the flavor. There's only so much questioning that the employees can endure, especially when they're swamped and just want to keep the line moving. So if Jake's keeps coming up with fun, whimsical names it would be great if they included a brief description too. Anyway, a line on the menu said that customers could only sample two flavors before placing their orders. I didn't want to waste a pick on the Ben Stiller wild card so I sampled Brown Sugah Vanilla and Chocolate Slap Yo Mama. I didn't love either but since I'd reached my sample limit I needed to pick one. The employee said the chocolate was one of their most popular flavors and I went with that. The ice cream wasn't super creamy but it did have a deliciously deep cocoa flavor with little bits of chocolate throughout. Four stars for the taste and two stars for the texture; other Yelpers have described it as icy and I agree. I felt like I didn't get best experience because I didn't understand all the flavor options. But the quality of Jake's ice cream makes it worth a repeat visit--hopefully when it's not so crowded.

I would say one of the three best in the city. i go in there for a treat after bike riding. best flavor is banana chocolate peanut butter, but so many choice. Has a great icy consistency that seems somewhere between ice cream and gelato. Really dense in weight, so I good value, since the overrun(air) kicked into it is small. Go so often they know me. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Great ice cream here which was among the best ive had in the city. You can definitely taste the hand crafted ingredients in the chocolate brownie which was my favorite. A must stop when walking the beltline and will sure to be a hot spot for spring and summer time!

As you all know, I have a huge soft spot in my heart (and probably on my belly) for ice cream, especially homemade/local/natural/small-batch varieties. I also have very fond memories from visits to the original Jake's while I was in college and would visit Atlanta most every weekend. On a recent quick trip back to ATL, I was absolutely thrilled to see that Jake's had reincarnated in the revitalized and awesome Irwin/Krog St. Market area. This is the place to be! Worry not if the private parking lot is full; there's ample street parking, and it's such a cute area to walk around after you get your ice cream anyway, although you could also sit at Jake's private outdoor or indoor seating areas, or stroll around the "Made in Georgia" indoor market that shares an entrance with Jake's. One consistency is certain - there will be a line, but worry not, because it's ice cream, so the line moves quickly, and the employees seem to be happy and helpful! You might be caught off guard or put off by the flavors, since they're not always very descriptive of what the ice cream flavor actually contains, but that's what the employees are there for, and they're not shy about giving you hefty sample spoonfuls of flavors like "Hot Sexy Mexican" (cayenne-spiced chocolate) or "Diesel Fuel" (dark chocolate/espresso). The flavors are true to their ingredients and are not cloyingly-sweet or artificially-colored. If you're visually-stimulated in making your ice cream choice, the flavor cases are behind glass, so you can point at what look good to you. They also have sorbet and other dairy-free ice creams. My favorites from all their choices are Hot Sexy Mexican, Keylime PieScream, Chocolate Slap Yo Mama, and Brown Shugah Vanilla. I also like their sorbets. Choose from a cone or cup - the portions are huge! Treat yo'self to two scoops; it's barely a dollar more that the single scoop, and you're eating the real thing, so it's worth the splurge. Hell, why not get three scoops and go all out? It will only set you back about 5 or 6 bucks. Rest assured that if you're dragged here and you're not an ice cream fan, they have a nice little pastry case with appealing-looking cookies, donuts, mini cakes, croissants, and bagels. Cards are accepted, and there are outlets here and there if you need to recharge. They get very busy, so they could add an action item to try and better wipe-down and clear off the tables, but that's my only qualm.

I am a big ice cream fan, so it's hard to say any ice cream is actually bad. But Jake's just isn't my preferred style. I like my ice cream to be very frozen and creamy, rich, and stacked two scoops high in a waffle cone. I've yet to fine a Jake's ice cream flavor that's frozen enough for me. It's too melty. And the flavors are more delicate and unique than rich, The location is fantastic, the staff had always been great, and they have a unique offering of flavors. But if I'm really craving ice cream Jake's isn't necessarily my first pick.

My honey and I ventured down to Krog Street Market last night after a yelp event to try out Jennie's ice cream, only to find they were closed for "renovations". Enter in Jakes, a place a hostess recommended. So, the good ... Loved the small, hometown feel of the place. It was very cozy and nonchain ice cream store set up. There was a decent line with mostly kids as well for 9pm at night. The names of the ice cream were amusing and the people serving were friendly also. They also had the option on sugar or cake cones. And now the bad ... Most of the ice cream flavors were gone. Ok, 9pm at night so I can let that slide. However, a lot of the flavors they had would not go into a cone either due to them being too soft. Also, the two flavors we got weren't the best. My better half ordered the red velvet and it tasted nowhere near that. It actually had just a plain vanilla taste to it. Granted, it was the last scoop they had but still, it should taste like red velvet. Mine, the key lime piescream, tasted like key lime and was VERY tart. I couldn't even get halfway through it due to the tartness. They could have had an off night on their ice cream so another trip might resolve that but for now, I'm basing off my one trip. If I'm going to an ice cream place solely for ice cream, I need a reason to eat there and not store bought. This trip didn't hit the spot.

The gelato case has 18 flavors and now they have a top eight case. I had the Cinnamon Buttermilk which was awesome. It was difficult to decide on just one.

The line was long, it was blazing hot, the price point was way too high, and I didn't even enjoy my ice cream. I ordered the red velvet ice cream and the cake portion was dry. Like how does one manage to make ice cream taste dry. I barely got through it and the only reason I did is because my wallet made me feel obligated to eat it. I can pretty much say that I won't be visiting again.

Very kind servers, me and my friends had tried like 10 flavors and end up I had a Kanye AA which I like it very much. I would say that's the best coffee ice cream I have ever had.

I was super excited to try out Jake's. All the reviews made it sound amazing. But honestly, I had to try 6 different flavors just to find 2 that were even edible. I tried Breakfast in Bed (which was absolutely disgusting - weird texture and overpowering cinnamon flavor), Better Pecan (which just tasted "off" - not bad, but not right), Coffee Toffee (which was so sweet all I could taste was sugar), and some peanut butter flavor that was horrible (FYI: I love peanut butter. I'm not sure how this is even possible!). This was all a shock to me. I love ice cream. I've eaten ice cream all over the world. Rarely do I find flavors that are just bad. I mean - bad. That being said, I did eventually find two flavors that were good - Chocolate Slap Yo Mama and some version of Mint Chocolate Chip. They were both pretty good - which is why I gave Jake's 2 stars and not just one. Also, the staff was friendly and the shop itself had a nice atmosphere. The texture of Jake's ice cream isn't creamy. It's light and even slightly grainy - which you may like. I don't. I like my ice cream to be smooth - more like gelato. Portion sizes were great. So that's a plus as well.

I was skeptical at first and passed a judgement before trying out the goods, but Im glad I was wrong about this place. This was our second time here bur first time actually trying out the ice cream. First time was after biking around the beltline, dying of thirst and sugar. There was a long line and ice cream didn't look so appealing, sort of melted looking and all, we ended passing. Also, I didn't care for the antique sort of run down interior. Again, basing off of first impressions, i opted out on trying the ice cream as our group was being open minded and got their sweets. As i took bites of my friend's ice cream, i was sold. The flavors were good mixes of your ordinary flavors and the consistency was little different than your average ice cream, in a good airy way. In the end, i think i enjoyed it the most out of the group and finished all my cup haha. So lesson here is to give hole in the wall kind of places a chance and most likely you will not be disappointed.

So, it's rush hour on a Friday and I'm looking for a reason to not go straight home as traffic is a nightmare, heard abt an icecream and sorbet place nearby...oh My!!! What a unique and nifty find this place was!!! So eclectic! We enjoyed the mixed berry sorbet, it was so amazing and not overly sweet. They have a nice selection of not just ice creams and sorbets but also cupcakes, cake pops, even chocolate covered bacon. I am sooo delighted that we stumbled upon this place. Literally cannot wait to go back. And the pizza next door is out of this world.

Great shop. Great flavors. There wasn't a line when I went but I hear they have lines big time. Try the sexy Mexican flavor.

If you want some really good, unique, ice creams with funny names that may challenge your taste buds with some of their crazy combinations...Stop by Jake's. They have some containers of sorbet and some vegan options. They also have a case of baked and other treats--cookies, bars, cereal bars, marshmallows on a stick with sprinkles, etc. Here is the deal. When you are working and serving Sweets, Ice-Cream, Dessert treats and the like--you REALLY need to be customer focused, know your products and glad to see us. I felt like I interrupted their break time after a long hard day when I walked in and started looking over the ice cream case and the baked goodies. For a good 2 minutes neither one of the guys working behind the counter said hello, can I help you, want to taste? I asked for a sample of a "Butter Pecan-type" based on the hand written tags taped on the front of the glass case. The server said "Which one is that?" I pointed to the one just below the tag and he said "I guess we are out of that one." He then takes a couple of sample spoons and starts sampling and says "O wait, this may be it..." (HUH!?!) I asked if they had sugar free or NSA and he said they had Vegan...(smh) Anyway, I tasted a few and chose one of the sorbets...it was really good! He warmed up a little and seemed genuinely glad to be sharing about their ice creams. So, I will be back (mostly because I fell in love with O4W Pizza next door). Maybe just a bad day at the office for those guys... Go to Jake's! Enjoy!

Jake's Ice Cream is my favorite ice cream parlor in Atlanta (though Jeni's is quickly making its way up the ranks), it was my first experience with "gourmet"/"indie" ice cream years ago (read: non grocery store pints), and it still remains some of the best I've ever had. If you view their menu online, there's a huge, overwhelming list of flavors in two main categories: regular/dairy and non-dairy/sorbet; their menu rotates a few times a week, on a daily basis there are about ten flavors available in each case - dairy and sorbet. I have yet to try a sorbet flavor unfortunately, I just can't seem to tear myself away from their dairy selection, which is horrible I know, but with flavors such as "Hot Sexy Mexican", "Coffee & Donuts", and my all time favorite "Fig & Cognac", I find it near impossible to. On my most recent visit I had a scoop of "Hidiculous" (in honor of Chef Hidinger/Team Hidi) which is bourbon, maple syrup, pecans, and bacon - with actual bits of bacon! Needless to say it was delicious! Besides in scoops (cup or cone), the ice cream is sold in pints ($6) and quarts ($8). The staff at Jake's is wonderful, they're super friendly, helpful, and patient with doling out the samples. Also, because Jake's is located inside Irwin Street Market, it shares a huge space, there's a huge bookshelf and comfy couches, perfect for cuddling up with your delicious ice cream if you'd rather not take it on the Beltline with you!

Not sure what all the hype is about, after a few visits over the last year and several flavors I feel everything is way over sugared. Several flavors and all baked goods we've tried are actually gritty from the amount of sugar. Also if it is busy at all and above 70 degrees outside they can't seem to keep their ice cream at the proper temp. My chit pile in a cup with a cone on top was the last straw on Sunday. If I want to be robbed via a cone I'll stick with Morelli's. At least their cones don't seem to come right off a dollar store shelf. P.S. DIE-UHH-BEE-TUS

My sister and I were walking the Beltline and happened upon Jake's. We were SO EXCITED to see Joyscream vegan ice cream on the board! We hopped up to the counter and asked what they had and the employee had NO IDEA what we were talking about. None. We thought maybe we were reading the board wrong but now that I look at their website it's pretty clear. Joyscream is their vegan ice cream. The guy pointed at a sad sorbet and said I think this is it. Womp, womp. I will try again another sunny day, hopefully someone there will understand our request!

I LOVE JAKE'S! I happened upon Jake's during exams about 8 months ago with some friends, and it has been my absolute favorite ice cream spot ever since. The flavors are delicious and different, always with fun names like "Chocolate Slap Yo Momma". The coffee flavors are always my favorite, and they also have had Sweetwater flavors lately. Yay Atlantaaaa. Anyways, Jake's is better than Jeni's. I said it. And the pricing is awesome! And the employees are super nice, and the outside seating area is a great place to hang out/ do homework/ do whatever it is you do.

Ice cream is the BOMB. I bookmarked this joint because it had 4 stars on yelp and headed here after eating ice pops on the amazing walkway. I asked what vegan options they had and it was only one - raspberry sorbet. I also sampled another flavor but I don't remember what it was. Basically, it tasted like 90% sugar. It reminded me of some vegan brands - such as "so delicious" or "almond dream". My friends always said I had a sensitive tough so what is sweet to me, might not be to others. But of course everyone has different taste buds. I decided to edit my review because the owner was hounding me about faking this review and mentioned he was going to bring it up to yelp management. I wonder if every yelper that gave this joint 1 star received this treatment. Be careful yelpers, we have an aggressive owner here. Just an FYI- other yelpers weren't satisfied with the icecream and described it as icy and off in flavor from it's name.

I don't get the reviews here. We originally wanted to try Jeni's ice cream, but they were closed and apparently have been for about a month now, but are set to reopen soon. We were in the area, and I was craving some delicious ice cream. We popped in, and the place was pretty crowded. The flavors had cutsie names like While We are young, Keylime pie scream, Chocolate slap yo momma, and Red velvet cakescream. There was a sign saying they really wanted you to try only two flavors at most. There were no good descriptions of any of the flavors, either. Pricing was reasonable, at $3.99 single scoop, $4.99 double, and $5.99 triple. You can get it in a cake cone, sugar cone, or bowl. I tried the tiramisu, which tasted only like coffee, so I decided on the red velvet in a cake cone. The lady at the counter told me it was too soft to go into a cone, so I had to have a bowl. What? It's ice cream. Well, I said okay, and got the the bowl. My boyfriend got the key lime. His tasted way too sour for my liking. Mine was way too soft, and was turning to liquid quite fast. It also tasted icy, more like ice milk, not ice cream. There was zero flavor of red velvet and the texture was anything but creamy. I don't get it. We are major sweet tooths, and we both didn't even finish. Truly disappointed, and won't be back.

The ice cream (German Chocolate Cake) was excellent, although a bit soft and runny. The one server who was left to serve the billion customers was excellent. The four (4!) other employees who ran around completing namby pamby tasks while the line grew have my wrath. The floor was mopped. Flavors were consolidated (making the list of flavors on the wall irrelevant). Already decent pile of cones was refilled. And some thumbs were twiddled. All while this one poor woman served the masses. Oy.

I know I'm in the extreme minority here, but I HATED this ice cream. I got the lemon marscarpone and blueberry basil. The bf got wildberry blast. We both trekked 30 mins down the beltline for this, so we both had high expectations. Boy were we disappointed. It was soooo sugary, you couldnt even taste the flavor. It was literally like eating cotton candy. At best, it was like eating the cream filling inside of a cookie. Neither of us finished and we both trekked back down the beltline wishing we had gone to Jenni's.

I love Jake's because of it's flavors. This place is tucked in a little market off of the Beltline. It's a great respite. I'm going to give it 5 stars because of: 1. The flavors & taste are AMAZING. I'm a fan of beer; they have a Sweetwater Festive Ale ice cream; it's DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Are you a fan of those Delta Biscoff cookies? They have a Delta Delight which is made of those cookies. 2. The staff are super friendly :) 3. It's local and humble. Highly recommended. Note: I read a few reviews on here that didn't sit well with me; one guy gave a 3 star review because they charged him $4 for large tea. a. why are you ordering tea at an ICE CREAM place b. how often do you think they use the kettle? The cost to fire up that thing probably outweighs the margins they get from your $4 tea. Those who complain about the price of the ice cream, please offer an alternative (Breyer's at the Kroger does not count). Cheers, D

Jake's Ice Cream is located inside the Irwin Street Market in Old Fourth Ward. The ice cream stand is one of the first businesses you'll see when you enter the market. It looks like an ordinary, piecemealed-together ice cream stand with bits of retro flair. Jake's is a local ice cream brand and sort of reminds me of High Road Craft because of its rich ice cream and decadent and unique flavors, though Jake's is nowhere near the sophistication of High Road. Jake's fits into the "salvage-y," "flea market-y" theme of the market. There are two ice cream freezers with an assortment of flavors. One of the freezers has ice cream and the other has sorbet and dairy-free and vegan options. During my visit, the ice cream flavors were: Coffee and Donuts Call Me A Cab - Grand Mariner and Heath Bar Toasted Coconut Root Beer Float Red Velvet Cakescream Jamocha Pecan Chip Kiss O' The Leprechaun - mint chocolate chip Vanilla Malt Diesel Fuel - coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and chocolate-covered espresso beans Limoncello Mascarpone Delta's Delight - Bailey's Irish Cream and Biscoff cookies The sorbets, dairy-free ("Joyscream"), and vegan ("Nicescream") options included: Raspberry Almond Joyscream Mint Chocolate Chip Joyscream Very Berry Lime Sorbet Mandarin Orange Sorbet Strawberry Mimosa Sorbet Tropical Sunshine Sorbet - pineapple, coconut, orange, banana Grapefruit Sorbet Free samples are available. I tried several flavors. Many of the ice creams are not very refined, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. For example, the Coffee and Donuts is literally like eating coffee ice cream with bits of donut mixed in. It's different and can throw you off a bit if you're not expecting to find bits of breading/batter in your silky smooth ice cream. I ordered a cup of the Diesel Fuel ice cream and it had me bouncing off the walls that afternoon. It was delicious, though I wasn't a huge fan of the whole espresso beans inside the ice cream. There were copious amounts. Other flavors I enjoyed included the Kiss O' The Leprechaun (mint chocolate chip) and the Vanilla Malt. Generally, the ice cream is thick, dense, very creamy, and feels genuinely homemade. The consistency often reminds me of gelato. You can tell the ice cream is fresh and can make out the different ingredients in each flavor, whether by sight, flavor, or texture. Jake's Ice Cream starts at $3+ for a single cup or cone (2 scoops) and $4+ for a waffle cone. Cool servers. Irwin Street Market has a small paved parking lot out front and a small gravel lot in the back. Drainage in the parking lots is not good, so be careful if it's raining. Street parking is also available. All parking is free.

This ice cream shop located inside the Irwin Street Market is great. I got ice cream here after eating at the amalgamation of Picnic!, Hilda's, and Doctah Mojo's next door. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon and Daniel B. was the only Yelper who could make it to my UYE. Luckily, I had +2 and he +1, so we were actually a not-so-sad looking group of 5. I got the Vanilla Malt (I'm crazy about anything malt-related... Except I can't drink beers... yeah...) and the Jamocha Almond flavors. Both were delicious, with the malt one having a true malt flavor (as I was hoping for). They were creamy and and not too soft, truly gourmet ice cream. If I'm in the area, I would definitely stop by again to try some other flavors that caught my eye. FYI, you pay for the desserts from JDR Delishery and Jake's Ice Creams & Sorbet at the same register.

I have been enjoying Jake's Ice Cream for many years...way back to it's original location on Highland Ave. I had not been in a while and went last night at a visiting friend's request and was so excited to see a great selection of their delicious ice creams. We had chocolate slap yo' mama, birthday cake, red velvet and mint chocolate chip. All were amazing and I was blown away by the serving size. The atmosphere is casual and quirky with ample seating inside and out. The only negative was the unfriendly, slow cashier but that isn't enough to concern me as I am sure she isn't always there anyway. Oh and the selection of baked goods was fantastic. We will be back!

Ahhhh Jake's. How do I love thee? Let me count the flavors... Brown Shugah Vanilla Hot Sexy Mexican Coffee & Donuts Betwixed Key Lime Piescream Sour Cream Salted Caramel Okay, okay, okay, I'll stop. Why is it so good? I'm not sure, except that Jake uses fresh ingredients and a lot of love (and probably laces it with something sinister to keep me coming back for more). And yes, there really is a Jake and he is an evil genius. The ice cream is luscious and creamy and delectable and oh...so...good! They even have dairy free flavors (no, really). It's amazing and the best ice cream in town. Don't believe me? Run, don't walk to Jake's and see for yourself. You'll probably find me there :D

After hearing about Jake's Ice Cream from several different people, we finally stopped in. I'd been told that Jake's gives Morelli's a run for their money. Truth be told, I think I needed to change up my ice cream routine. First of all, Jake's is housed in a little oasis of food businesses with a central hang-out area. It's super cute. Secondly, they offer tons of dairy-free flavors, if that's part of your diet. I actually opted for a dairy free mint chip and it was really good. A thinner consistency than regularly ice cream, but super tasty and with enormous hunks of dark chocolate. My main squeeze had one of the coffee flavors and it was like...ice-cream-ified coffee. Very bold and good. There were many tempting flavors. We will be back!

Just had a desperate craving for ice cream this past Saturday and what I got at Jakes was not it. I had the chocolate slap yo mama and the salted caramel. The chocolate had a crumbly consistency and chocolate chips like crushed Oreos. The salted caramel tasted more like cookie dough without the dough as well. Both of them seemed melted and refrozen and were lacking in flavor. Went with two friends that day and they reported the same and that it was more ice milk than ice cream. You can try it as an oddity but if you really want good ice cream get cones and cream at the grocer or go with a known ice cream chain. The young lady preparing mine also took a sample of the ice cream and had me to repeat my second scoop because she didn't hear me while getting high off her own supply. I would take an enemy to eat ice cream here. Two stars only because their baked stuff looked pretty good.

I want to like this place. It's a small business, good ice cream, neat decor, but when they charge $4 for a "large" (16oz) hot tea, I can't help but feel ripped off. Its just hot water and a Twinnings tea bag! If it was looseleaf and steeped just for me, I might understand, but I bought a box of the exact same tea at Kroger last week for a dollar less. Save your money and go to Kroger.

We LOVE this location in the Irwin Street Market. It's super eclectic and cozy with lots of different seating options. On our last visit we tried a few awesome flavors including: Peppa-Choco Mint, Toasted Coconut Joyscream, and Red Velvet. My personal favorite was Peppa-Choco Mint. Definitely try a few before you decide. You really can't go wrong with any of them :)

Jake's ice cream is as much about the ice cream (which is delicious) as it is about the atmosphere. It's quirky, eccentric, and fun. It's in Iriwn Street Market, which has a big open space with ice cream, a bakery, and a breakfast joint (separate businesses I think?) The middle area is full of random seating options, like tables/chairs, couches, loveseats, etc. The Slap Ya Mamma Chocolate is probably the most well known, but a lot of their flavors are great. I usually just try a couple and then pick one. It's always good. Solid ice cream joint.

What a waste of calories! Ice cream flavors were so-so. Cookie was stale and flavorless. Don't believe the hype!

I had heard great things about Jake's, so I stopped in with a friend after walking the beltine. The lady who helped us was nice enough and let us sample a few flavors. After getting mine I went outside and my friend joined with hers a minute later. We immediately noticed that she had been give half the serving of what I received (which was not even that much) even though we paid the same price. The ice cream itself was good, but definitely not worth the price you pay for the amount you get. My friend and I both left disappointed.

Although I remain an ardent proponent of both Morelli's and High Road, Jake's slightly less sophisticated ice cream and style is slowly growing on me. However, I will draw the line at their "Joyscream" (dairy free) and "Nicescream" (vegan friendly) options - as far as I'm concerned, removing the dairy from ice cream is tantamount to removing the bread from a sandwich. As I've said before, let's stop the insanity, folks. Food: As others have already noted, the ice cream at Jake's isn't as creamy as most people have come to expect for the dessert. However, it's still perfectly palatable and the flavor options are typically novel. The portions are also very generous relative to other ice creamery's in the area. During my last visit, I opted for the animal cracker, which consisted of vanilla ice cream with pieces of glazed animal crackers in it - overall, it was quite flavorful and a nice deviation from the standard options you typically find elsewhere. My only major complaint with Jake's is the lack of topping options - although I understand that most of the flavors are unique enough to stand on their own, it would be nice if they offered some toppings beyond the standard sprinkles and nuts. Service: Friendly, but not the epitome of expedience. There usually only one staff member working, so the wait times can get long on weekends and periods of nice weather. However, both the staff and patrons typically handle the rush with relative stride. Atmosphere: The atmosphere of Jake's is really the only aspect that leaves somewhat to be desired. The Irwin St. Market itself is dilapidated and some of the seating appears as if it was just recently procured from a dumpster somewhere in Bankhead. I understand that it's part of the market's whole schtick, but from a sanitary standpoint, I'm not a fan. It's also usually hotter than hell in this place. Cost: Reasonably priced. Two scoops of ice cream will cost you less than $5. Jake's also offers a fee-based membership program, which entitles the purchaser to various discounts, free toppings, and other special offers throughout the year. Credit cards are accepted. Other: Jake's ice cream is located in the front section of the Irwin Street Market, which is also conveniently located at the beginning (or end depending upon your perspective) of the Eastside Beltline trail. Free parking is available in the lot directly outside the market, as well as across the street in the unpaved lot at the corner of Irwin and Krog Streets. Hours of operations are Monday-Thursday, 8AM-9PM, Friday-Saturday, 8AM-11PM, and Sunday, 9AM-10PM.

As others have mentioned their ice cream is definitely more icey than creamy in texture and flavor. For me, the creamier the better when it comes to ice cream so I was disappointed. I did love how creative their flavors are. I had the flavor that was vanilla with pieces of white and pink animal crackers in it. The employees were very friendly. The one serving us broke my waffle cone in the process of filling it and automatically gave us a discount for it. Definitely appreciated! There is seating both inside and out mostly consisting of old tattered couches and chairs. It has a very homey, well warn in feel. If I was in the neighborhood in the mood for ice cream, I would stop by again. But I wouldn't seek it out due to the iciness.

Great homemade ice cream. They produce just enough to keep it fresh. they also produce some flavor combinations you will not find anywhere else. My wife had balsamic strawberry and was pleased.

If you like fresh ice cream, unique flavors, fun staff, and awesome, eclectic decor- this is the place for you. There are a few places in Atlanta that have great ice cream. However, Jake's stands apart. They roll out fresh ice cream all day long; ours was so fresh that we needed cups for our cones because the ice cream nearly slid off!! We loved this place and cannot wait to go back.

Jake's is in the Irwin Street Markets, and has been for some time. They have several great flavors of fresh made ice cream. Several with booze and several that are dairy free, know as joy scream. There are several couches and comfy chairs to sit in. It is a little expensive, but it's an excellent product. Jake's is located at the current Southeast entrance to the Beltline, another amazing plus #16/365 #16/100

I have been going to Jake's for years and It is my go to spot for ice cream! Pros: -Friendly staff -Awesome flavors -Great taste Cons: -Sometimes the flavors that I want are unavailable so I usually have to call ahead -Very icy so it melts very fast

I haven't had anything but yummy ice cream from jakes. I love the seating areas that r comfortable. The baked goods and coffee In the same space r also wonderful. I have been coming here and their previous location for years. Sorry for the delay in complimenting your place!!!

The place is a little hard to find. It's located inside the Irwin Street Market. They have the most unique ice cream flavors around. I loved "Delta's Delight." It's got Biscoff cookies, caramel swirls, and Bailey's Irish Cream. Yum. They also have a lot of non-dairy flavors. It must be fun to work there and come up with interesting and fun combinations of ice cream flavors. I wish they'd open up more locations around the metro-Atlanta. It's quite far for us for now.

Jakes is a great place to visit off the beating path of down town Atlanta. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a large selection of ice cream that's made on site. This is a great place for families with kids too. I also met Sandy one of the owners during my visit and after talking with her you can see why this place is successful because of the owners and the quality product they make. Can't wait to go back.

My family has been to Jake's so many times, we are like part of the family! Unbelievable flavor combinations are always there but that incredible Blueberry Basil Sorbet is just the thing that cuts right through my resolve to only have one scoop! I don't know what kind of wizardry goes on in the Jakes kitchen but, LAWD HAMERCY, they got it goin' ON!!!

My mum is visiting from STL and we haven't seen each for 2 years. Late in the day of our first day together she yells "I want cheats... I want ice cream!!" Knowing her youngest child is severely lactose intolerant, she goes into a detailed and lengthy explanation of how she doesn't want Baskin Robbins or any other national franchised joint that blends in flavors. She wants fresh homemade ice cream. Uhhh great, thanks mum...that should be a breeze to find. Actually, it was a breeze when I remembered Jake's is locally made. I knew I was going to pass on this "cheats" trip so I let her try the tasty selection of ice cream. She then asked what the other case contained. All I heard was blah, bla, blah, bla, nondairy, blah, bla, blah. WHAAAAT?! This evening they had three nondairy flavors: Fig & cognac, Mail Chip (granola, raisin and chocolate chip), and Vanilla. I tried one scoop of the first two (Fig & Mail) and they were excellent!! It's made from coconut and almond milk, no soy! Whoop, whoop!! I'm so excited I have nondairy and non-soy options available. I can now have a cheats day without the stomach ache. Thank you Jake's for making my mums cheat trip so great!! Oh yeah, the lot is tiny... just park off the street in front of Studioplex.

Delicious ice cream! I wish more people knew about this company's location in Inman Market, since the creativity of flavors and taste comes close to Morelli's, which is a wildly popular ice cream place that already has two separate locations. They day I went, the flavors they had included an intensely chocolate-y flavor, a creatively named mint chocolate chip flavor, red velvet cake blended with vanilla, Tiramisu Su Sudio, and a few others. I sampled a hibiscus ice cream and decided to go with that. Even though I couldn't really taste the hibiscus in it and it was a bit overly sweet, it had a delicious creamy flavor that was pretty addicting. Will definitely return to try their other flavors. Inman Market, where they are housed, also features various tiny shops selling everything from handmade chocolates and coffee to compotes and other gourmet goodies.

This is the most delicious ice cream ever. I love that they've got some really different option. Including a Spicy Hot Sexy Mexican option with plenty of Cayenne pepper. They're not afraid to go bold so everything has plenty of flavor. Coffee and Donuts? Tastes like coffee and donuts. The prices are really reasonable for the quality and quantity of ice cream that you get. It's in the cutest little indie Co-Op looking place, with plenty of couches and tables to stretch out on. I've been here a couple of times and will keep this place at the top of my go-to Ice Cream places!

Fantastic ice cream! I had the salted caramel flavor and it was truly good. Nice place to hit up if you're walking the Belt Line. Adjoins the cool burrito place next door. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Friendly staff but the ice cream left me disappointed. It's just too icy for my taste. I want the emphasis to be on the CREAM, not the ice. I had butterfinger and red velvet. The flavors were good but a little subdued. I finished my 2 scoops but I kept thinking that I could have had a half gallon of blue bell for a dollar more. I'll stick with Morelli's for my gourmet ice cream.

After eating at Bob (yummy meatballs on a stick) I treated myself to a scoop of Jakes Ice Cream at the Irwin Street Market. This was not my first time having Jakes so I stared at the selections for a good 3 minutes trying to figure out which yummy one I wanted.... Chocolate Slap ya Momma? Key Lime PieScream? Red Velvet Cake? ....this was the toughest decision of my day. Went with Chocolate and it was soooo good!

This place is awesome. They started off by offering me samples (so wonderful when ice cream shops make the first move), and I decided on the joycream, which is vegan icecream. I got a mixture of mint chocolate chip (which is made with REAL peppermint) and chocolate, and it was excellent. I was especially happy that the vegan choice didn't cost more than the regular option, that's pretty unheard of. Looks like the place is still getting settled, so bring your friends and support!

Best ice cream I've ever had. I'm assuming this is made of natural ingredients, because I've never had ice cream this perfect with such perfect texture. I've driven across town in bad traffic on an obsessive run to get the Chocolate Slap Yo Mama and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Strawberry Fields is also incredible. It used to be a little difficult to find, because locations kept changing, but the Irwin Street address has lasted for several years now, and I hope it continues. And, now they deliver inside the perimeter, so it really couldn't get any better.

Okay, I admit. I've fallen victim to the frozen yogurt craze in Atlanta but my visit to Jake's yesterday reminded me of why I love ice cream so much more. The slap yo' mama chocolate ice cream here is fantastic with chocolate chips, a little orea..yum, yum, yum. I can never tell if they are open or not but it's worth pulling in and checking them out.

My comment about Ben and Jerry's was a little fuzzy so I'd like to clarify. I just meant that some people may choose Ben and Jerry's because of their use of cage-free eggs, lack of rBGH in the milk, and other fair trade ingredients. I did not know if Jake's ice cream does the same and so I was making the point that some people, despite tasting a flavor, quality, price, and texture similarity with Jake's, they might choose to go to Ben and Jerry's because of their well-known business ethics. Jake's has brought to my attention the following: We use hormone free dairy and we do not use eggs at all. We make our own chocolate syrup from scratch without any corn syrup and whenever possible we try to buy locally grown produce. Sorry for any confusion!

Today I accidentally ordered two scoops and asked for "'Chocolate Slap Yo Mama' on the bottom" ... whoops. So many interesting, delicious flavors! All local, homemade goodness. You can get cups, cones, or milkshakes... and sundaes are coming soon! Any flavor with a name ending in "Joyscream" is vegan. My favorite flavors are Salted Caramel and Coffee & Donuts. I think sometimes they just throw stuff together, which is fun -- one time the neighboring pie vendor baked a batch of S'mores pies that collapsed, and Jake's turned the pies into an ice cream concoction. I live super close to Jake's, which is awesome for my ice cream cravings, and not so awesome for my waistline. I wish it were at least more than a 1 minute walk away, so I could feel a little better about myself. (First world problems.) This is Jake's main storefront -- inside of Irwin Street Market, which is home to a bunch of other little businesses (breakfast, lunch, coffee, baked goods, King of Pops, cooking classes, flowers, etc.).

I placed an order for a few pints. They were kind enough to deliver(with a small fee). But more importantly, this stuff was good. I tried a few flavors of ice cream and sorbet(Yo Daddy's Vanila, Margarita Sorbet, Tropical Sunshine Sorbet). I'll be ordering more very soon.

I remember seeing Jake's at my very first public showing as I was getting into the personal chef business quite a few years ago. I haven't actually tried it until today. I ventured down to the old forth ward area and found Irwin Street Market. It is like a flea market but of food. Jake's set up is a basic 2 chest chiller housing a wide variety of flavors. I sampled a few to discuss prior to placing my order. There is a whole lot of dairy free and sorbets on one side. I didn't try any of those. I stuck with the lot of regular dairy tasties. Red velvet (red cake in impossibly white ice cream) is pretty darn heavenly. Kenya AA, yes for us coffee lovers, a double threat chocolate base with oreo and chocolate chip, buttery velvety pecan and coconut. The coconut has actual shreds of coconut in it. This made me happy. I paired it up with some double threat chocolate. The salted caramel is something I've had at restaurant paired with a dessert but this was my own special cup with nothing soiling the pure enjoyment of this very special flavor. Jake's isn't the full fat almost airless super premium you buy at the grocery store. It feels to me more akin to ice cream you'd make at home. Simple but packed with flavor and not overly fat to coat your tastebuds and miss out on the real flavor. you do sacarfice some mouthfeel but the flavor makes up for that. It's all personal preference but this ice cream absolutely has a charm all its own.

Walked here after the Inman Park Festival and sat out on the cool patio while I enjoyed my scoop of thin mint ice cream on a cone. Jake's Ice Creams and Sorbets is located inside the Irwin Street Market in Inman Park. I love the eclectic exterior decor and the interior reminiscent of a local market in the 60s. Recommended flavors are "slap yo' momma" chocolate and red velvet cake.

Sadly, I was disappointed. When I walked in, I really had the feeling that I was going to be blown away. We had great service, but the ice cream just left me scratching my head. The consistency is somewhere between gelato and semifreddo. Our brownie..which was supposed to be heated...was barely warm and seemed to be several days old. Very crusty and unappetizing. We ordered several scoops to try different flavors. The Sorghum ice cream was very interesting and probably the best of the scoops we tried. We also had the "Hot Mexican" or some such thinly veiled racist name, a berry/cherry sorbet and one of the non-dairy ice creams which was "called" chocolate, but tasted 100% like bananas. Weird. All of it.

This location at the Irwin Street Market, shared by Candi's for Breakfast, always throws me off a bit. It always seems way too large for the number of people there, but also cluttered with random bookshelves/extra kitchen space/unused tables. So that was the initial impression I had coming in on a Tuesday night when the place was completely deserted (I saw one other person come during the ~15 minutes I was there). The woman behind the counter was very helpful and nice, and we ended up with two waffle cones- one with a scoop of Choco-Slap-yo-mama and one with whatever they call mint chocolate chip ($8 altogether). Both tasted alright. Not as creamy as Blue Bell- more icy. I'd expect better from a "premium" destination ice cream store. Unfortunately, this place just doesn't have much going for it.

I love Jake's ice cream! I love Ben & Jerry's as well, but Jake's wins because it tastes very "homemade" to me. Just wish it was more accessible. I'd been to five different Jake's locations since 2003 but seriously- why is there only one location now? Oh well, one Jake's is way better than no Jake's :( Jake's ice cream is definitely creamy, not too firm, and almost "fluffy." I know some people like rock hard ice cream, but not me. I also love a good, moist cake, so when I order my favorite flavor (Red Velvet) it is perfection. The other flavors are incredibly tasty too- Carrot Cake, Devyn's Animal Cracker, Chocolate Slap Yo' Mama, etc. There are lots of flavors on the website I haven't seen before, but it looks like I'll have to keep my eyes out for Picasso ("Homage to Picasso's rose period. Made with a hint of rosewater--a refreshing treat!") Wows! I've only been to the one on Irwin twice. It's cute. It's pretty far from me, but I still love Jake's.

I stopped by here on my way to the inman park festival. It is a pretty cool little place with some pretty sweet ice cream. The staff is great. They are friendly and patient (this particular individual first had to wait on a choosy 5 year old and then an indecisive 30 year old). The prices were reasonable. It was 3 bucks for ice cream in a 4-6oz clear plastic cup. I had the strawberry and I tasted the lime n the coconut (cuz I like the song). The strawberry was great. Fresh and creamy. The other was more like a little coconut with a whole lot of lime. I was hoping that they would have more flavors. I also wasn't so impressed by the atmosphere although I didn't seriously consider hanging out there because I was just passing through. For now I will give it 3 stars and reserve any improved rating for another trip. I know I am so mean.

This place is a combination of a few different things a coffee shop and other food, of most note and the reason that I went there was for the ice cream! I ended up ordering a home-made popsicle. Ok so I went for ice cream and they had all these cool flavors like Choco-Slap-yo-mama, max's granny smith apple, key lime piescream, red velvet cakescream etc.....oh and they had Diesel(choco, expresso, and coffee) they all sounded good. I ordered a pop sicle because that is what they have won awards for as well, I got the "Arnold Palmer" it was fantastic!! I ordered a scoop of red velvet cake ice cream in a waffle cone for my wife. She loved it, we both got messy eating our respective cold treats on the way home. They make different flavors all the time, different pop sicles all the time. They were "King of the Pops" for Atlanta in 2010. I am sure they have awards for their ice cream as well, because it was so good. Check it out!! I recommend it.

I'll start with the things I loved about this spot. From the entrance to the decor I loved the atmosphere because of the vintage feel. Across from the ice cream portal are baked goodies of all sorts. They also have a small restaurant in the back. Now about the ice cream. I have to say I was disappointed because there wasnt a lot of flavor in it. It was just cold and icy. Maybe I should have picked a different flavor but I test tasted them all. The couches were comfy tho. And you might have trouble finding a place to park also. They are limited in that area of town.

After Fritti I seem to always end up here. Great place to just sit and relax and of course top it with heavenly ice cream, you cannot go wrong! Staff is great and patient! Especially since everyone that goes with me wants to try everything!!! All time fav is the red velvet.

This is absolutely the #1 best ice cream I have ever had. It is lighter than Morelli's, in a good way. And the flavors are more innovative. They are also open to flavor suggestions! Seriously, it is insanely good. Go for Figs and Cognac, but leave some for me! So many options for different diets, too. And a great price compared to other gourmet ice creams and yogurts.

I first discovered Jake's Ice Cream about six or seven years ago (thanks to my pal Katy) and I've loved it ever since. It is, quite frankly, the best I've ever had, bar none. And believe me, I've tried quite a bit. I love good ice cream. Jake's is made by hand in small batches, and while it's much harder than soft serve, it's still softer than most. It actually tastes like what you might get out of a real, honest-to-God, old-fashioned churn at home, if you had the genius to create such amazing recipes as Chocolate Slap Yo Mama and Brown Sugah Vanilla. The flavors are amazing and constantly changing. My favorite, the astonishingly delicious Brown Sugah Vanilla, is usually available, although some of the other varieties of vanilla, such Yo Daddy's Vanilla, Honey Vanilla, and Vanilla Malt, are a little more rare. Not to worry, though, they are all terrific. I am especially fond of cinnamon ice cream ... and have more than once visited Jake's and found two different cinnamons available at the same time. In all, I've found five different cinnamons at one time or another, including Cinnamon Chocolate, Cinnamon Roll (with real pieces of yummy cinnamon rolls), Cinnamon Kenya AA (cinnamon with coffee!), Cinnamon Apple Piescream, and just plain Cinnamon. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite. Although in the interest of journalistic investigation, I intend to keep trying. Speaking of coffee, there are at least six varieties of coffee ice cream, and nine chocolates--from the simple but terrific Just Plain Chocolate to the exotic (and rather surprising) Mexican Hot Chocolate, with adds a bite of hot pepper. Don't laugh. It's unusual, sure, but amazing. The point is, there is always something new to try, although it's hard to say no to old favorites, since you never know if they'll be there next time. I haven't seen the Root Beer Float variety in ages. Not to worry, though. Whatever happens to be there ... it'll be wonderful. The problem, alas, is making a choice. Thankfully, American genius has concocted the two scoop/two flavor cup or cone. Give Jake's a try. I challenge you to find better ice cream. When I first discovered Jake's, they were located in a funky old house on Church Street in Decatur, Georgia, just a block or two from the Square. They later moved to a space on Clairmont, which was fine but just never quite the same. Now, they've moved to the Irwin Street Market, which I think is my favorite space of all. Jake's shares the space with a breakfast nook and lunch counter, a coffee shop and bakery, a few shelves of homemade pasta sauces, and a market. Aside from Jake's, of course, I've only tried the bakery. I recommend it highly. It's run by the baker himself and his wife, and their obvious pride in their cannoli is well-justified. The coffee has always been hot, fresh, and well-brewed. The other treats look almost too inviting. The space itself includes lots of comfy chairs and tables, perfect for lingering over breakfast, a coffee, or an ice cream with friends, a laptop, or a good book. It's deliciously unpretentious, relaxed, and welcoming--spacious and wonderfully quiet, perfect for reading, working, or conversation. It's a cozy, welcoming space--one of my very favorite urban hangouts in a city that is rich with them. I can't wait to go back and try the breakfast. I'm planning to do some writing there this week. I hope to see you there. One complaint ... Jake's doesn't (yet) have hot fudge. Granted, their vanillas are all so good that they don't really need it, but somehow, it seems like a must. But don't worry. Rumor suggests that homemade hot fudge is in the works. I'm looking forward. UPDATE: the hot fudge may be coming sooner rather than later. Jake himself has informed me that testing of various recipes begins this week. I'll keep y'all posted.

So everybody has been talking about this ice cream place Jake's off Irwin St, and I have been meaning to go. It just so happens I heard the talk master "Boortz" mention it on-air this morning, so I decide today is the day. I walk in and look to my right and I heard angels( no not really), but I could have sworn the ice cream was singing. I choose Red Velvet. I have been on this red velvet kick when I wanna be bad and have dessert. Cheesecake, cupcakes, cookies, and now ice cream....Yippee.... This is the best combo of cake and homemade vanilla ice cream I have ever had in my life. There were other flavors, but I have a favorite and I don't want to cheat with another flavor. I love this cute little place. I also picked up a turkey sandwich from the place across the hall, and it was great as well. Who knew such goodness could come from something so quaint. Definitely a must try.

Indeed, I did (that is, gentle reader, return to this one as my earlier review suggested I would). They have coconut milk based ice cream which the lactose intolerant in my little band greatly appreciated AND enjoyed - I tried some as well and it really was mighty tasty. NB: I learned that the space (which really is weird as hell) is also rentable as an industrial kitchen. I REALLY wish I'd known this about 7 years ago...

Love, love this place! In terms of rich, creative and tasty ice cream, you'll appreciate Jake's. Animal Cracker and Red Velvet are my favorite. Some interesting names like Slap Yo Mama and Hot Mexican Chocolate too... :) Jake's has been around Atlanta for years (there used to be spot right in Midtown... Not sure what has happened to other locations) but I'm glad its in one spot now. Unfortunately, the selection today at Irwin Street Market was slim. Nonetheless, it is a good place to chill with a cup of your favorite sweet.

Warning: there's crack in this ice cream! Especially in the Chocolate Slap Yo Mama. And the Brown Shugah Vanilla and Key Lime Piescream. The Coffee and Donuts has an extra serving of crack. But they do have some lactose-free ice cream but still crack-ful. Is there a support group for Lovers of Jakes? I have "a friend" that needs an intervention.

Good stuff here, quality fresh wholesome ingredients. i have been a fan of Jakes for a long time and I'm glad to see things are going well. The slap yo mama chocalate ( great name glad you kept it ) is awsome and the brown suga is my favorite. I too wish there was other locations to enjoy this decadent treat.

I havn't been into the store but was brought several quarts of Jake's Ice Cream to serve at a party. Delicious! Tastes like home made ice cream but in many fancier flavors than I made and a lot easier too. Lemoncello, Slap Yo Mama, Red Velvet, Strawberry and Vanilla were all wonderful, and I don't usually like chocolate ice cream. All natural ingredients, - this doesn't taste like something you can find in your grocer's freezer. I wish I lived closer, but then again that might be dangerous!

I just wanna say that the brunette who works here is awesome. All I had was a $100 and they did not have change for and she let me keep my icecream with no problem. She was so friendly. And by the way my icecream was super good, some lemon flavor I forget the name. Minus one star b/c they do not have fresh cones! If only they had waffle cones...

I take my son to Jake's to get ice cream. Its a small place that is eccentrically decorated. The ice cream flavors are unique and one of a kind. Flavors like vanilla brown sugah and limoncello mascarpone are delicious. Today we had strawberry peach sorbet and it was delicious. If you are short on money I would not go. They also supply local restaurants with exotic flavors.

I love everything about this place! The ice cream is great. The other reviewers are correct: it has a thinner consistency than most of the other "premium" ice creams but it definitely does not lack flavor. I also really like to atmosphere of Irwin St. Market; I suppose it's not for everyone but I like reading about North Carolina lawyers from 1952. Lots of room, a great place to squirrel yourself away to do some work or have a good conversation.

I SCREAM for this ICE CREAM. Will need to purchase stapler and staple my big mouth shut before I become a size 16. Really cool place which doubles as a coffee shop and mini flea market/flower shop/art gallery. Has a very accomodating seating, a covered patio, and many roomy spaces and one area of the place even has a door so as to make it feel like you can have a private little family gathering in there. Just ask the female who usually sneaks in there to take long naps. Not sure if it is a customer, an employee or a homeless person sneaking in a nap on a sum?mer afternoon Books are available. Games are also available and lots of power outlets for thse lucky ones who are able to work from wherever with a laptop. It would be great if they actually kept their hours of operations kind of regular. It is hit/miss whether I will actually find the store open on the days and hours it says on the door.

Jake's has the best ice cream in Atlanta. Devyn's Animal Cracker is probably the best ice cream I've ever had. Brown Shugah Vanilla is also very good. But I will try to avoid this place because it's also the sweetest ice cream I've ever had. It just feels wrong to eat this stuff. I'm just not sure I should be putting this much sugar in my body.

Great ice cream!! Always interesting and yummy flavors - I wish there were more, but I love the experimentation and the taste. Once in awhile, some of the ice creams appear on the verge of melting in the freezer (too soft), but I"ve learned just to not get those when they aren't solid - I'm an ice cream cone person, so I want an ice cream solid enough for the cone, not for a cup. Very comfortable atmosphere, too. Only drawback for me has been that both times I've been there, the staff has been lacking in basic customer service - very slow, needs things repeated many times and forgets them anyway. However, a number of other reviews mention great customer service, so maybe that's a fluke. Regardless, this place is worth many visits.

Jake's Ice Cream is without a doubt the best in the city. I love Morelli's and as before mentioned, I don't do Bruster's. Jake's it is! The only one I have visited is the one in the Irwin St. Market. I know they have a few other locations but this one just happens to be near by. My ultimate favorite from here is the Animal Cracker ice cream. It has chunks of those frosted animal crackers with sprinkles in it and some sort of sweet cream ice cream. I can taste it in my mouth by simply thinking about it. My second favorite, which also seems to be carried more often, is the red velvet cake ice cream. Another winner--there are small chunks of red velvet cake and swirls of cream cheese icing! Seriously?? There is nothing better!! The service is always really stellar and they have tons of space to sit down in there and chill OR check out the cute stuff being sold in the market. Jake's also has lunch and I THINK brunch stuff that sounds good and I believe they have a few veggie options, but I have yet to give them a try. But PLEASE visit Jake's! You won't regret it!

This was a review from back in December 2009. I was in the metro Atlanta area with my girlfriend and after a busy day of walking around, we decided to treat ourselves with a little ice cream. A friend of mine who lived here before raved to me about Jakes, so off we went. The place was completely deserted, only 1 car in the lot, which made me wonder considering it was rated so well...but maybe it was an off night. We were a little confused when we walked in and saw a diner set up, with no one behind the register. Only when the young college kid at the ice cream counter welcomed us did we figure out the place is both a diner and ice cream palor. It actually is a very visually exciting place, filled with a hodgepodge of birdhouses and knick-knacks, reviews of Jake's mounted on the wall adjacent to the ice cream display, and the chalkboard behind the hammered copper counter reading off their Fried Tomato BLT's. I don't eat bacon, but I've always wanted to try a fried tomato sandwich, so that will have to be another review. As for the ice cream, as you may be wondering, well, it was a disappointment initially. We had looked up the menu at Jake's online and wanted to try out the Chocolate-Slap-yo-Mama, Mexican Hot Chocolate, O, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, Brown Sugah Vanilla, Tiramisu Su Sudio, Betwixed, Breakfast in bed, and Picasso. When we looked down in the display case, there were about 8 flavors available...out of which only the Brown Sugah Vanilla was the only one out of our list. Apparently, with underserved parlors, Jake's did not have much of their icecreams available, especially those with chocolate, according to the server. We tried the Brown Sugah vanilla, which was definitely a better vanilla flavor with the warmth of brown sugar arriving as you took your first bite. We tried out the Pumpkin Piescream, Devyn's Animal Cracker, and a few others which were all delicious, but not the ones we wanted. After trying them, we asked the server if they had any chocolate flavors, which he did...in the deep freezer and only Chocolate-slap-yo-mama. Honestly, it took about 20 minutes for him to bring up the tub, and try scraping out the ice cream for one cup. A little off putting, considering I really wanted to try this ice cream, so I gave my girlfriend the cup and told him to just give me the pina colada ice cream made of coconut cream. While the ice cream was nice, with pineapple bits trying to stand out against the heavy coconut base, the overall experience wasn't. Chocolate-slap-yo-mama wasn't bad, with chocolate chunks inside. The Brown Sugah Vanilla is what I went with...subtle and a nice counter to the Chocolate. But I have to say, not having the ice creams in...not happy

There are actually several Jake's locations - one being off N. Decatur & Clairmont in the shopping center with the Jiffy Lube, another in Oak Grove. Anywhere you get Jake's, its the best ice cream you'll have.
