English pub, with large screen TVs over the bar. The place was packed so we ate at the bar. No worries, great service, burgers were above average and the nice bar tender was ever attentive and keep the fresh beers coming. The place is narrow with the bar upfront, but the seating goes way back. rather dark colors and dimly light booths.

Visited while at a convention and did not want to eat at the expensive hotel restaurants. Casual and laid back atmosphere. Our group had burgers and chicken tenders. Food was fresh and very filling. Friendly staff and quick service.

I came here with my parents who were visiting the south for the first time and we absolutely loved it! My mom and I split the French dip and the pork tacos and I couldn't say better things about either. The pork was smokey and tender while the French dip was cooked well with the perfectly crunchy baguette. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone, not just out of towners.

We've been here twice now, both times during Labor Day weekend when DragonCon is in full swing and therefore everything is a bit crazier than normal. Last year we shared the salmon which was FANTASTIC but took awhile to make. This year they weren't offering the salmon because of the DragonCon crowds so we had the chicken pot pie which was also pretty darn good. They ran out of real silverware though so we were left with the teeniest tiniest flimsy plastic things that made cutting a pastry impossible. It was a real struggle to eat our food with the silverware offered, but they ran out. It's DragonCon. It happens. We'll go here again (but maybe smuggle our own silverware in, because there's nothing sadder than not being able to properly eat good food because your utensils don't work.)

We loved this place when my husband and I were in town for my professional conference. In fact, the food was so good we went TWICE! The Shepherd's Pie I got was the best I've had pretty much anywhere and his nachos were awesome too. One of my coworkers got the French dip which she liked a lot and her onion rings were just AMAZING. The service was sort of slow, but in their defense, the 2 servers were swamped. They were always helpful and friendly when they finally got around to you tho. Portions are huge and it's reasonably priced. If you're staying at any of the down town hotels or work down in the area give this place a try.

The food is amazing, the service is a little lacking. It's ironic as the day I was originally planning going, they were closed for staff training. The problem is that you can sit wherever you want, so you kind of get missed. I guess just don't go if you're starving. However, the food is worth the wait and the servers are friendly.

Ate here a couple times when in town for a convention recently. If you like spice, try the ghost pepper wings. They were amazing! Prepare to guzzle several glasses of water if you plan on eating all 8 wings by yourself! Delicious! Another visit some friends and I tried a few other appetizers all of which were good. Their whiskey prices are fair, way cheaper than the local hotel bars if your staying in one of those. The atmosphere has a very local feel even though its very near everything downtown. Overall good pub!

Very nice little pub with plenty of tvs. Good selection of beer and good food. Nice pool tables and golden tee. Gives you a break from the hotel bars.

I work with a bunch of people who love Irish pubs. No matter where in the world we are, they find one and we pretty much camp out there every night. China? Irish Pub. Brazil? Irish Pub. It drives me NUTS! It's not that I dislike Irish pubs necessarily, it's just that I'd much rather be exploring something local than going to a pub that seems to serve the same old standard drink list in the same old atmosphere. So when my friend suggested that we meet for dinner and said that we'd be going to Gibney's, I cringed...until I saw the beer list. You see, I love to drink porters and stouts and almost no one, outside of a craft beer place, has any. Except for Guinness, which is not my favorite. Gibney's has FIVE stouts, two of them local, and at least 3 other dark options that were all awesome. How do I know that they were all awesome? Because I pretty much drank them all, in one night. In hindsight, drinking the entire beer menu was not one of my better choices but I couldn't help myself. I can't remember the last time I encountered a beer list so awesome. We also ate food, which was solidly good as well. I had the pot pie, it was tasty, and the puff pastry that comes on top is enormous! It's not just the beer that makes this place great, it's the servers too. The two guys that took care of us every night, Ryan and Eric I think, were awesome. They really knew their beers, made great recommendations, and amazingly remembered every beer that each of us had had in order, even when we hadn't been in for a few days. Pretty impressive! Bonus points too for being open during Atlanta's icesplosion part 2. This trip I wasn't trying to avoid going back to the same place over and over, I just might have been the instigator. I can't wait to go back, have some delicious beers and play some Golden Tee (I love Golden Tee!) or shuffle board, or pool. So much fun! So if you can't tell, I loved Gibney's. The only thing I hate about it is that they got me hooked on the Terrapin Moo Hoo that I can't get in Chicago. Curses!

We stopped in here for a pre-drink in the afternoon. Walkable from most downtown hotels. Our bartender was super nice and friendly. There weren't many people in at the time we stopped in-we were looking to pre-drink before our conference evening festivities began. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have a good selection of beer. Come in with the right crowd and you're bound to have a good time.

In my opinion, this is the absolute best place to eat during Dragon Con. They have the system down pat, and can get you in and out way faster than any place around. The food is solid and filling. I was impressed by their draft list during my recent visit, too. I always get the chili frito pie when I'm there. Frankly, I need something hearty to soak up all the booze consumed during the convention. Gibney's has always come through for me in that regard.

Pretty awesome pub in the downtown area. I really don't venture downtown to eat, but the times when I am at Dragon*Con, I stop by Gibney's Pub for the excellent Frito Pie and drinks. Frito Pie is the ultimate hangover food and will keep your engine running for the Con.

This place is a great lunch spot if you work in the area, The buffalo chicken dip is addicting it's so good.

Great late night food. The buffalo chicken dip and sweet potato tots are musts. Impressive beer list and far better than anything else in a 4-5 block radius if looking for food after 10pm. It hit the spot after a Hawks game on the way back to the hotel. The turkey burger wasn't bad. However, I would have been happy with just the buffalo chicken dip, the tots, and my nicely hopped beer.

Gibney's has a decent location but is definitely lacking in the whole story. Let's talk about what makes this place average. Pros: 1. Great location for business. Easy to find and friendly staff. 2. They had a great drink special on Newcastle that night. Look for specials across the board. They also offer the typical pub fare if you're hungry which is pretty good in general. 3. Pretty spacious and seems like it could be a good spot for hanging out and meeting people. Cons: 1. The location is great but the availability of parking isn't. The main problem with downtown Atlanta is that there aren't many viable options for parking and if they exist they're overpriced. 2. Maybe it's just me but I'm not a fan of places that allow smoking. That's how they get around the rule by ensuring it's always 21 and over only. 3. I was so saddened by the billiards room. The tables are not centered and the pool cues were all broken or damaged in some way. I don't care about paying money to play, but keep the equipment up to date and usable please.

Reminiscent of a TGI Fridays. Came in for a beer...super mediocre brew list, (think Blue moon) Expensive pints, $7+, served just below room temperature. Country music in the background from a dreadful sound system. I would pass & go to Park Bar instead for the complete opposite of the above.

Very solid liquor & beer selection for the area! Our bartender SHAWNA was fantastic, very easy to talk to, and was very helpful to my wife & I--just visiting for a few days. Will definitely stop in again! Maybe even before we leave! WARNING: jukebox is weak. That is my only complaint.

Poor beer selection. Food is below average and that's being kind. How can you not even get a burger right? Security rude and obnoxious. Stay away!

A-OK. Gibney's is truly a sports bar with a lot of TVs to watch all sorts of sports. We only stopped in for a beer, so really can't say anything about the food. They had a nice selection of beer on tap and the wait staff was very nice and friendly and let us try a number of beer samples before selecting what we wanted. I'd stop in again and try something on the menu next time as well.

I would give this place a 0 star if that was possible. I visited this restaurant today on a lunch break with 2 other co-workers. One co-worker was satisfied with her dish; me and the other coworker wasn't satisfied with our meal. We caught a waiter's attention and told him how we weren't satisfied. The manager came over. Again, we explained why we were not satisfied with our food. The manager ask us what did we want him to do. We asked if we could get something else. He said yes and asked what we wanted. We both said we wanted the chicken fingers. He said (and this is where it gets good) that HE COULD NOT GIVE US BOTH CHICKEN TENDERS. HE SAID HE COULD DO ONE ORDER OF CHICKEN TENDERS OR WE COULD SPLIT IT. HE SAID THAT IF HE GAVE BOTH OF US CHICKEN TENDERS IT WOULD HURT THEM. I was thinking, well dang, she purchased her food and I purchased my own food, if we weren't happy with the food, why would we have to split it when we each have already spent our hard earned money at this place. I proceeded to ask him how many chicken fingers you get on one order (since he suggested that we split it then it must be the size to feed a family) and he said 4! Ha! I told him my co-worker would have the chicken fingers and I would have a burger. He brought them both out and we didn't touch it. It was principle the reason why I had him bring me something else to eat. For a business to nickel and dime you over the cost of chicken fingers versus a hamburger is beyond my belief or even understanding. There is no way the price of an order of chicken fingers can outweigh the power of a satisfied or dissatisfied customer. When his business folds up and he has to close the door, he'll understand why it was so wrong to tell a paying customer, "I want to make you happy, but you both can't get chicken fingers but you can split an order" , when each person had paid for a full meal!" I WILL NEVER RETURN AND WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.

Compared to the overpriced hotel restaurants nearby, this place is a good alternative. Don't expect to be awestruck, but Gibney's does provide good food and drinks with good service at a reasonable price.

I frequent this place when I'm in Atlanta, its a few blocks down from me and its convenient. Most of the staff are great, Mark, Greg etc. I recently went there and started a tab with Angela (heavy set girl with the hat). I only had two yuenglings, 45 minutes later I want to close out my tab and its $68 bucks with 6 other drinks on it (jack, jameson, god knows what). From my exchange with her the bartender knew i was tipsy (and being I always pay my tab) tried to take advantage of me by charging me for other peoples drinks . Luckily I'm not a moron so I asked her where all of these drinks came from. When she didn't have a response she rolled the receipt up into a ball and threw it at me saying "are we done here." Keep in mind i stop by this place all the time and I'm on a first name basis with everyone here. It was pretty embarrassing and I didn't want to lose my cool so I left. Next day I called the manager Chris and told him what happened. He didn't have much of a response but had Angela call me back. She lied to save her job, and offered a half hearted apology. I wouldnt recommend this place because: 1) the food is terrible 2) because I believe a bartenders job is to provide a safe fun environment for their guest and not try to rip people off. Personally there are not many options in this part of town but if you really have to go keep an account of your tab.

I end up at Gibney's every year when my girlfriend and I go to Dragon"*Con. The food is really good and just about the cheapest meal you'll find during the convention that isn't in the food court at Peachtree Center. The most disappointing thing about the bar is that while the food remains well priced, I feel like they raised their drink prices during dragon con. The previous two years we went there and drank with up to five people and our bill was never as high as it ended up being this last time for just the two of us and four drinks. This is the only reason they don't get five stars, drink pricing. I wonder if the prices are lower when there aren't special events, can someone verify?

What kind of pub allows kids? At least their parents didn't pay attention to them as they threw the darts near the board from 20 feet away. A server came over a few minutes later and told them to stop. If only he stopped by my table to take my drink order or even acknowledge my presence. I left after ten minutes of being ignored.

Gibney's honestly has the best fish and chips I've had this side of the pond. Got to experience it last year during Dragon*Con. It's close to the convention hotels, which is a plus, and it's affordable food that isn't fast food. Definite thumps up!

I am an event planner based out of Colorado. February 25, 2014 I hosted a party for 150 people at Gibney's. It was fantastic. The staff is the crowning jewel of the establishment. They were so incredible helpful. From Renee who stayed 3 hours from when she got off just to help out, to Marc who was willing to help with anything from the moment I arrived to set up at 7:00 PM to 2:30 AM when I left, to Ryan, who has an absolutely incredible ability to remember who gets what drink in a packed room, to Chris, who assured me all along that "they had me covered." The location is just a block and a half from where our conference was, so it was very convenient. The room is spacious, clean, and welcoming. The TV screens everywhere are a nice touch. Coming in from out of state, I was nervous about having an event at someplace I had not been to yet. But they made sure everything was great. My only complaint was that leading up to the event, communication was a bit difficult at times. But it is a very busy place and I know that is something they are working on improving. If I return to Atlanta for a conference, I would hands down choose Gibney's again.

Very close to Marriott Marquis downtown. Friendly service. Good beer selection and the food (Cheesesteak, Chili, and soup) Was quite good, good quality for a bar. I'm a fan.

Let me just start off by saying I hardcore judged this place on appearances alone until some coworkers dragged me here for lunch. Walking in an seeing a waiter with a eye patch did not help to assuage my anxiety of dining here. There's two entrances. One street level and one inside a dimly lit shop at Ptree Center Mall where there is a staircase in the middle of the floor. Once you enter the restaurant it's pretty spacious. Prices aren't horrible for Atlanta ($8-10 for a meal). You order at the counter and take your food to your table on a tray (high school flashback anyone?). I got a half a tuna melt and tots and it was more than enough food. I like that they have a burger toppings bar. I definitely recommend getting the tots and putting cheddar, sour cream, and salsa on top. Delicious. This place definitely has potential. I can see myself highly enjoying a baked potato and chili when the weather gets colder.

I like this place. Good food and strong drinks. It's a bit out of place for being in a touristy area though. Feels like it belongs in the Marietta Square or somewhere it would accumulate a more loyal fan base. Due to the location everything is a tad over-priced for what it is. It's a great pub, and for the area, it's the best bar you'll find that is open late. Oh yeah, the chili is wicked awesome.

This is just a straight up bar that has a jukebox and the bartenders are nice. There are pool tables in the back. It doesn't get too busy on Friday nights. This is not a bad place to check out if you just want to get a drink and chill. You can smoke inside the facility.

I was in town for business for one night and just wanted somewhere casual to go for a bite to eat. Downtown dining seems to be mostly big, corporate restaurants... so I was thrilled to find this place, thanks to my hotel concierge. There are basically two huge rooms - the first room has a long bar and lots of booths, and the other room has a few booths, a pool table, and I think a few other games. There are big TVs everywhere showing the current sports games. It was really perfect for me. I was able to watch the football game, tried a beer on tap I've never heard of, and had a delicious meatball sandwich that I would definitely go back for. The place was clean, friendly, and the staff was really nice. The only problem was the smoking. Cigarettes are bad enough, but there was a guy at the bar with a big smelly cigar and no one wanted to be near him. I would have stayed longer if not for the cigar. I will be back in town in a few weeks and will definitely return.

We visited Gibney's on two occasions: Thursday and Saturday. On both nights, this place was almost vacant. That surprised me. It is fairly central to downtown Atlanta. They have a good selection of beer. So, I'm not sure why they didn't have the patrons. it's possible that this is just a happy hour spot. If so, we missed the hoopla. However, each time that we went here, we had a single drink and then left. So, I cannot really recommend this spot at this time.

When I'm downtown for lunch, I like to drop by Gibney's for solid filling cheap eats. I used to walk here all the time from work, and there's nothing better to reward you on a autumn or spring day than a nice hot bowl of chili. And should you feel so inclined there's a good selection of beers on draft. They will put chili on anything. Chili Frito pie, chili smothered baked potato, chili burger, chili with hot dogs sliced into it. They have beef, turkey, and veggie chili options, but the beef does the most satisfying job. The other big advantage is getting a bowl of chili lets you get in and out of line fast as they don't need to invoke the grill or the fryer.

I've been to Gibney's twice and have had great food and excellent service both times. I feel bad because I cannot remember the gentleman's name who waited on us but I do remember that he said he lives in Midtown. The food at Gibney's is a couple of steps higher than your typical bar food. I've had their chicken tenders (which are real chicken tenders that are lightly breaded and very tasty), their spinach and artichoke dip, cheese sticks, and shepherd's pie. I've loved all of it. My husband has also ordered the Philly cheese sandwich and he thought it was very good. The only thing I would change is that their marinara sauce for the cheese sticks is very runny. Gibney's has a very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of seating. They also have pool tables (which to date we haven't used yet) and TVs so you can watch your favorite sports. My favorite place to sit is at the little two top bar/table combo. They do allow smoking so if that bothers you, you're better off going somewhere else because it's silly to complain about it when you know full well that bars and restaurant/bar grills had to make a decision as to whether to allow smoking OR children. Each establishment had to make the best decision to suit their clientele and I think Gibney's made the right choice. I don't smoke anymore but this isn't a place where I would bring my kids to hang out, either. Also, note that the location (entrance) is on Peachtree CENTER Ave. so you don't have to trek "ALL the WAY around the freaking building". This has become one of our favorite spots! I just wish I could remember the gentleman's name who has waited on us when we've been there, because he was really, really nice and very knowledgeable about the menu.

The short of it; hamburger had no seasoning, meat in French Dip was soaked with oil, bread soggy from butter and cheese. Greasy, oily, and not really worth the heavy feeling after the meal. Lack of real flavor. A few craft beers on tap, but not much. Rather disappointing.

I was visiting from out of town, first time in Atlanta. Me and a couple of friends dropped into the first place we could find. Seemed like a cool enough place. Had tvs, pool tables, all of the necessities. The only thing I was surprised about was that an Irish bar ran out of Jameson Whisky. How do you let that happen?

Watering hole for out-o-towners staying in nearby hotels. When a miller lite is 5 dollars ,and I'm not in a club, this thing better be rolled out on a red carpet in a flash. Gibneys does not comply with my demands and deserves this appropriate rating. Good things

The front of the pub, a bright cheery red, shouts out their 'pub thing' they have going on - thanks to the finery of Jason K, or I would have never known about this place tucked inside Peachtree Center. I would think this would be a big lunch spot for the surrounding office buildings, but according to the (supernice) staff I chatted with, it's mostly just out of towners and conventioneers that bump on over to Gibney's. But if I were in a new city for a four day convention on the newest dental hygiene tools or the equivalent, hanging out at Gibney's with my newfound fellow dental peeps would be a nice way to end the evening. There's a jukebox, pool tables, and a lot of nice 'nook and cranny' booth spaces to choose from - we got a nice combined two booths, which were perfect for our group of ten. I got a good 'ole classic hamburger, which was decent and covered in onions, which is how I like 'em; and the fries met my 'good fries' standards checklist. The individual TV screens at each booth are a nice touch, too - we got to dish about celebrity gossip instantaneously as it came out on the news. . . . and, oh, yeah, I guess you could use them to watch sports, too.

I've been to Gibney's several times...have only eaten there twice, but it was good! The menu has something for everyone, and they have a large selection of "Daily Specials". The chili was great! Pool tables, great jukebox and very friendly staff make this a great place to hang out after work. They serve food until 11pm or so too. I just can't give 4 stars...they allow smoking. Even when I smoked, I found it overwhelming here...not enough ventilation, maybe? now that I'm "reformed" it just kills me! and what's up with bartenders smoking behind the bar?

Always noticed this place, never bothered to go in until last week with a friend. It was not quite what I expected, but it ended up being alright. It was raining outside, so venturing into the great outdoors was not an option. I had always noticed a stairwell next to the Naturalizer store in P'Tree center, and despite all the signs in the window, I had never really paid the place any attention. That is the interior entrance from the Mall to the restaurant. My hair thanks you. when we got downstairs, we were a little turned around concerning where to go, but figured out that you have to go to the counter to order. Now, the problem is that they assume that customers are either frequent or have really good menus. When you order, the menu is literally over YOUR head, so you have to take 4 steps back to figure out what sides and specifics you want on your meal. I decided on the philly with only mushrooms (of course, they are those nasty, slimy ones in a jar) and tater tots. I noticed that the guy started dropping tater tots for a small army when I placed my order. To my shock, they were not for an army, they were all my order. I think I could have served 3 others with that dose. My sandwich was HUGE as well, so large that it was falling off of the bery large plate and I wondered how I would pick it up to bite it. Between the plate, the tater tot platter - I did not have room to carry my drink to the table on the tray. They should not really call it a philly, it is more of a steak sandwich. It was definitely enjoyable, next time I would take a friend along to split the meal with me. Oh, really cool thing... you have your own TV at your booth!

Initially, I expected this place to be sort of trashy. I dunno, the name suggested to me a dirty, smokey, nasty hole in the wall (there is smoking there, but it is filtered out efficiently). However, I was pleasantly surprised upon entry... It is located right by Marriot Marquis and the Westin, so, silly me, I did not take into account the fact that those hotels happen to be a couple of the most expensive hotels in Atlanta. Not cheap often equates to good taste and aesthetically pleasing bars. This is true for Gibney's. Its crowd is typically white collar people in town for business (and drinks, evidently). In addition, it is people who work in restaurants nearby... Pretty cool mix there for the same end result: To have a good time and (most likely) obtain a little buzz. They have a great beer selection- my fave being Shock Top which is very similar to a Blue Moon. Also, the bartenders are pretty cool, they have pool tables, and darts (I believe). They are open late for alcohol too- 3:00 A.M. I have yet to try the food but I assume it is typical of bar food. If you are in the area, go there for drinks.

Truly bizarre, you would not know you were smack dab in the center of a major metropolitan city, feels more like a country dive bar in every way including the bizarros that inhabit it. And that is not a compliment.

Horrible service from the bartender who spent the entire night at one end of the bar talking with his friends ignoring the entire group of people he was supposed to be serving absolutely disrespectful. This place was a huge disappointment. Food was mediocre at best & service was really really disappointing.

Went for lunch the other day and decided to try the chicken pot pie. I was impressed and would definetly get it again. My only complant is that there were too many peas in the mix and had to pick around them, but the crust more than made up for it. Will return for another visit and try something else!

Not much else is open after midnight in the Peachtree area, so I was glad that Gibney's was around for some late night drinks. I was able to drop by twice in one week and I'm glad to say that both experiences were pretty good. The bouncers are friendly. The bartenders are nice. The service was quick. They have good selection of beers. The bathroom is clean. They have a pool table area. The seating area is spacious. I met some pretty crazy characters and walked away with a few good stories. Any place that can create these type of nights is an A in my book.

Great place. Cafeteria style line ordering. Made all food quickly on grill while in line. Really good burgers. Staying in hotel for convention. Great place to go. Les expensive and faster than other restaurant. bottle bee $4, which was cheaper than hotel bar. Smoking is allowed. Good draft beer selection.

I was downtown for a conference for a few days and ended up having lunch here twice. Good stuff. I must admit that when I first walked in I was a bit afraid that I'd catch something, not the cleanest place in town. I had the Reuben and the Chicken Pot Pie and the Onion Rings...not all at once. I would order any of them again and enjoy it thoroughly. This isn't the place for a hot date or to impress the boss, but if you're looking for good food fast in the downtown area, this one is tough to beat! Also would probably be a cool place after hours as they have a nice bar, lots of TV's and a couple pool tables.

A pub, is definitely a place just to get a drink.. Waiter service...mediocre. Cleanliness a bit dirty, grungy. Food...OK. but the atmosphere is great for game.

Mmmmm, pot pie. If I lived in Atlanta, this place would become a staple of mine. We had great food (our large group had lots of dishes, including the delicious chicken pot pie, fish and chips, soup, salad, wings, etc. and all were very tasty), great service, clean bathrooms. The Irish pub also has a shuffle board, two pool tables, a juke box, and lots of funny little signage all around the place (enough to make you wander around, laughing). The local beer, Sweetwaters, is a must-try and it's also open until 3am, even during weekdays, for a little nightcap.

Nah - stopped in for a drink and maybe a bite but the unattentive staff turned us off right away. Drink was Ok but nothing made us want to order. Looks like the kind of place that preys on the local tourists who wander in from the street or the mall.

It's a step above your normal pub. It's actually very clean, the service is very nice and their menu (which has been revamped) is very good. They also have some of your typical bar games (pool, darts, etc) in there as well which is fun. Weird enough, even though they allow smoking, you never feel overloaded by the smoke in the place. The beer menu was a little disappointing (which is why its down a star) I'd expecially recommend the chowder.

My friend "Roz" and I happened upon Gibney's when in town for business a couple of weeks ago. We were greeted with a friendly "hello" from James and were made to feel completely at home! The bartender even ran down the street to another establishment to get a bottle of pineapple juice to quench my friend's need for a sweet cocktail. The evening, while short, enticed us to return the following night. A convention of Burger King management and gentleman claiming to be "Financial Advisors" allowed for plenty of entertainment. Drinks were reasonabley priced and stiff. Sit at the bar and you may even get a few free rounds. Pizza hit the spot.

It's an average pub with average food and standard draft and bottle drinks. The wine list is sub-par (as expected of an average bar). Service was lacking as well. It was just convenient to go out as a group to this place, located just a couple of blocks away from our conference hotel in downtown.

Mmmmmm Chicken Wings Mmmmmmm I am thinking of heading over there right now just to get some wings. The service was great and the wings were Ooooo Soooo Good. Next time I go though I won't get the house vodka - and just get what I really want ... Grey Goose or Stoli.

Gibney's is a decent place to grab some good food at a great price. I have only been there twice but each time the food met my expectations. Everything is cooked to order so no matter what you order it's hot and fresh. I highly recommend the Ruben (you have the choice of corned beef or pastrami). Either way you cannot go wrong. They have a fair selects of beers on tap. The beer seemed to be priced on the higher side, but what isn't these days. The staff is very friendly and the last time I was in they had a couple of cute girls tending to the bar. There are more than enough tv's to keep you entertained. From where I was seated there was no less than seven that I spotted with out turning my head too much. Over all this is a relaxed place with good food and a good staff. I wish all the pubs I go to were as good as this place. Why only 4 stars? Well there's always room for improvement.

Several of us went to Gibney's last Friday for a few beers. It's a loud, smoky pub, which is exactly what we expected. Good service and friendly people. They have a bunch of activities, from trivia to pool and maybe even a few video games. Broad selection of patrons, ranging from locals to tourists. We didn't try the food, as we had dinner earlier that evening. For a decent, reasonably-priced pub in downtown Atlanta, I recommend Gibney's.

While the service could have been a tad better, Gibney's serves up great food in an authentic pub setting. I had the shepherd's pie, and I must say it was probably the best I've ever had! There is a decent selection of beers: the usual suspects (Guinness, Boddington's, etc.), but it would be nice to see a better selection of local brews. There are LCD screens in each booth, so if you get sick of your dining companions, you can watch the game ;) Also, if you are from California or another state where smoking in bars is prohibited, be prepared for a stroll down memory lane....

Mediocre fish and chips and nothing special about the bar except for the scary sheman redhead who apparently just got implants. I spent most of my time wondering what lucky man was going to win her heart which kept my mind off the sub-par food. At least the wait staff didn't screw up my order which is apparently something you need to be aware of in Atlanta.

I was in Atlanta and had a drink at Gibney's but much to my suprise when I was gone and home they charges $20 on my credit card! $13 of that was a tip. I have gone there for years when I am in town and never had a problem. Obviously all those new employees I saw aren't as honest as the old ones. WATCH YOUR BACK and your CREDIT CARD !

This used to be Charlie & Barney's, but the owner changed the concept and name to Gibney's. The food remains mostly the same and it isn't very Irish Pub-ish. Mostly the business crowd during the day for lunch, and at night some of the same for happy hour. A lot of their business also depends on which convention is in town. Great staff and atmosphere.

    (4)
  • Cheryl L.

Gibney's (formerly Charlie and Barney's) is located on the street level of the Peachtree Center Mall, which is adjacent to the downtown Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott hotels - putting it smack in the heart of the convention district. However, this little slice of Irish hospitality welcomes locals and visitors with wide open arms. We never knew what to expect for crowds - quiet and mellow one night; jammed packed the next - but the drinks were very reasonable (most beers, whether draft or bottle, are $4-4.50, pitchers $12 or $16) and their food is pretty tasty too (most of their menu runs $3.95-9.95). The front room has a bar lining the left wall, with partitions to give a little privacy (just like pubs in Ireland have), as well as several booths. The back room on the main floor has a few pool tables, a couple TVs and a couple more booths. There's an upstairs, but I didn't get up there! This pub quickly became our favorite offsite bar.

We made a visit to Gibney's while in ATL. Our original plan was to go to Benihana; however, it was prom season and the wait was nearly 2 hours. I'm so glad that was the case. This food at Gibney's Pub was awesome. I highly recommend the buffalo chicken dip. Everyone in my party was satisfied and some even returned that night for additional items from their extensive menu. The only downside in my opinion was that the server didn't really "introduce" herself, nevertheless, every thing else was on point. We all joked after leaving saying how proud we were to be "Benihana rejects".

While in Atlanta for a conference, we stopped in for a late night meal. The service was great. We had heard they had the BEST grilled cheese. There were three of us in our party and we had the fried pickles as an appetizer. They were tasty: nice and crispy, but a bit on the salty side. I had the corned beef reuben....very messy, but delicious. One of my friends had the grilled cheese, and it lived up to its reputation. We both had ( upon the waiter's recommendation) the tater tots. They were cooked perfectly, nice and crispy! My other friend had the shepherd's pie and it was delicious. The portions were large. I was impressed with the food and service. The atmosphere was great and prices were fair. I'd definitely recommend this pub for anyone in the downtown area. It's just a short walk from the Marriot Marquis.

I mean, what can I say about Gibneys? This was my favorite lunch destination in downtown ATL. I would usually only go here on Fridays though. This is true pub food! My favorites "on the menu" are the Frito Pie and the chili cheese burger. Eat one, and you'll know why I only ate here on Fridays! They will put you in a food coma!! But let's be honest, the best thing they make is not on the menu. If you are lucky enough to go by here and see that they have the chicken pot pie, choose it and don't look back. It is a huge piping hot mountain of awesomeness. Words cannot describe how awesome this is! OMG, I want one now!

Decent pub. They were able accommodate a group of 14 split into two tables, but could absolutely not do split checks. Drinks were fine. Nice pool table area. I had a patty melt which was good. Very casual. Waitress was overwhelmed by having 14 people come in all at once. Waitress was not too friendly, but overall a fine experience.

I was in town for business and flew in late. Didn't really want to eat at a bar but I figured I would give it a try. I was surprised! Food is good and people are cool. Prices are not bad. Only thing I didn't like was not having a waiter or waitress. Overall if I'm ever in the area I would eat here again

This place is exactly what I expect in a low key bar. Good beer selection, plenty of seating, and the music isn't too loud (does that make me sound old?) Also, you can't get food poisoning within 40 minutes so ignore that jokers review.

I found this place a few months ago and liked it so I would come back every few weeks usually sitting at the bar and grabbing a meal. The last two times I went to Gibney's a couple of weeks ago to the bar to order some food, they were not overly packed, I waited 6 minutes and no one even made eye contact with me or acknowledged me. I tried getting the bartender's attention and was ignored, the older couple next to me made a comment about me not getting service and I just decided to leave. Not wanting to hold one bad experience against the entire establishment I brought a friend there last night. This was my second time ever sitting in a booth, the service wasn't prompt but she did at least acknowledge us while she was running around at the other tables. We both ordered burgers and mac with sodas. When the server asked how I wanted my burger I said medium, twice. She finally comes out with the food and my burger was very well done, no sign of pink, flat, dry and unappealing. I didn't even bite the burger after checking it out first and told the server that my burger was well done. At this point she asked me if I was going to eat the well done burger or if I wanted to have another one made medium. Confused that this question would be presented to me as an option to eat a burger that was cooked wrong I asked her to send it back. I ate my mac & cheese as I waited for my new medium burger to come out and once it did my friend was pretty much finished with her meal. This time I cut the burger in half and to my surprise this one is also well done, dry, flat with no sign of pink or moisture. My friend asked me to taste it I took a very little bite and pushed the entire plate aside. Originally. my thoughts were I would just put it in a to-go box give to the homeless guy on the corner of P'tree and Baker and grab a bite from elsewhere. When the server came back she asked how my new burger was and I told her it was still well done and she asked if I wanted something else which I declined as there is no reason to keep having the kitchen cook me the wrong meal all night. The manager came to the table and asked what the issue was I explained that I asked for a medium burger twice and I got a very well done burger twice. He then asked if I was going to eat it and I told him I would just like ti in a to-go box and he said "If you take it with you I will have to charge you for it, because I have to eat too." knowing that I was just going to drop this 8 or 9 dollar burger off to the guy on the corner and not eat it myself I told the manager to take it. Through out the meal our sodas were never refilled nor were we asked if we wanted a refill. My friend had to ask for a refill which she didn't get until after we paid the check. Which when the check came out i was charged $3 for my mac & cheese which was a side that came with the burger meal that they never got right. Whatever. I put my card in the bill with my friend's card and when the checks come back out the entire bill was split 50/50 as I wanted. However, when I checked my account this morning, Not only did I pay 50% of the bill but my card was charged a second time for the entire bill. It's not a lot of money but it is the principle. As much as I've liked their food in the past I will not be returning to this place due to their lack of customer service. Now, I have to call them to fix this situation.

I ate here mostly because it was close to my hotel while in Atlanta for a trade show. I had no idea I was about to get the BEST grilled cheese sandwich ever. The bread was a 9 grain wheat and slightly over side compared to grocery store bread. Then there were at least three cheeses on there as well as bacon and sliced tomato. The tater tots on the side didn't hurt anything either. Service was great too and it was the waiter that suggested the grilled cheese. I am really glad he did. Its a must try if you are in Downtown Atlanta and its right behind the Hard Rock Cafe so you can't miss it.

I just go here for lunch on workdays. Somehow, walking down the dark, ancient stairs with the neon lights just takes you away from the crazy business lunch noises of the food court. Which is a welcome thing after a crazy morning at work. The bar environment seems really broken-in and genuine. It has just a touch of that fraternity-house fragrance that will never go away, but not enough to ruin the meal. The cafeteria line is a little odd for a bar, but it kind of sets this place apart from everywhere else. The offerings are considerable, the service is very polite, and food comes pretty quickly, considering it's made to order. There's nothing too "out there" - burgers, chicken breast, hot dogs, chili, fries, tots, etc. There are some vegetarian choices. Portions are quite generous and you can help yourself to a well-stocked condiment bar, plus there are a variety of sauces hiding in plastic pitchers. It gets cramped during lunch hour with everyone ordering, dressing burgers, filling drinks, and waiting all in one tiny space. Then there's the actual eating. Everytime i sit down to eat here, I marvel at 1) how inexpensive it is; 2) how much food you get; and 3) how good it is for what you paid for it. I call the food a solid three stars - ordinary, but fresh, well-made and not wanting in any way. Somehow those intangibles knock the experience up a notch. I always leave feeling better than when i left my desk and like I actually went somewhere for lunch, even though I never stepped out of an air-conditioned space. No awards for this place, but they've won me over.

Meh, I hadn't heard of this place before this weekend, with so many pubs, bars and places to eat in Atlanta, it's not really a shocker. We ended up here during DragonCon. It's a short order cook/grill and serve yourself kind of set up. The burgers are plain and boring, the fries are from a freezer bag, the condiments are all standard and basic. My group was hungry and after a day of drinking and more in store, it served a purpose and a place to park our asses for a bit. The beer is pretty much all domestic with a few sprinkles of quality. Nothing special and paying more than $3 for a PBR(I dont drink the crap-but my friends do)is ridiculous!! Let's just say that was my first and my last trip there.

FOOD POISONING for both myself and my fiancée! We both had burgers, and shared the sweet potato tots, and within 40 minutes were very sick (I won't go into detail so as not to make you equally sick). I called to speak with the manager Michael who dodged my calls for a solid week and then told me I'd have to come to the restaurant with my receipt for a refund. I told him I live over 45 minutes away, and all he had to say was "it's policy! It's policy!...." and refused to give me a refund for my $26 bill. The money doesn't matter...it's the principal. So if you're way into food poisoning, and then getting jerked around by a do-nothing worthless manager named Michael, STOP ON BY AND HAVE A BURGER!!! It's the only burger that is guaranteed to make you loose weight!

Disgusting. The beer is room temperature and tastes like the taps have never been cleaned. I paid for the full beer, left it and walked out. The menu was boring and with taps that dirty I can't imagine the kitchen. The server acted like some high surfer dude. Will never, ever return.

I was in Atlanta for a big conference, and this seemed to be the best pub/bar in a 1 mile radius. The prices are relatively low, considering that you're in downtown. I had loaded chicken nachos, and those were good *. Service was great on two different nights (Thursday and Friday) and as you get into the evening, the music gets louder, the place gets packed, and everyone just seems more attractive. If you want more variety, take a cab to Midtown

My boyfriend and I split the full rack of ribs. It was beyond enough food and delicious. I felt it was priced perfectly. . Not to expensive for down town Atlanta. They even make their own bbq sauce. Yummy. Fantastic service. . Our drinks never were empty. Loved it!

This experience was exactly a-okay. Gibney's was running a special menu (and dining scheme) for the DragonCon crowd. The servers still looked after their tables, but were largely responsible for only drinks. The food was being served "cafeteria style" and was paid for before one hit the table. It seemed like the right strategy. It freed up the servers to look after drinks alone. (I wonder what havoc this played with their tips.) But the food was good. Solid pub fare. Not a bad stop during DragonCon weekend.

The Typical Irish Pub. Decent food, decent prices. Their beer list isn't too shabby either (I love a good Milk Stout) Not bad for a downtown area. A few things that stuck out for me were, a friendly staff and, a free shot of Evan Williams Cinnamon Reserve for the entire bar/restaurant. Not for the faint of heart but, for fans of Krupnikas, you best get you a bottle. These are the reasons I will most likely return to this place of business. That is my opinion, and I know. No-one cares. \o/

"In heaven there is no beer... That's why we drink ours here." Found myself here by chance on St Patrick's Day. I was staying the weekend at the Marriott Marquis and Gibney's is right around the corner. Didn't have a chance to eat here, just to enjoy a couple of Guiness pints. A bit "divey", but a classic pub complete with jukebox and pool tables. Bartender was friendly and quick to serve me up. You can light up here, which annoys many and thrills some. I had a chance to smoke a stogie, so you can guess where i stand on the issue. I would definitely stop in again if in the area. Downtown Atlanta could use a few more spots like Gibney's Pub!

  • Kenny L.

GIBNEY! thank you for the great service and the easy walking distance from the Marriott downtown. Everytime I walk by I just smell the great food you guys serve. And you guys have plenty of seats and nice pool tables for a nice time out. Several flat screen tv's to watch whichever baseball game you wanna see? PERFECT for those fantasy baseball lovers like me. Food? Awesome portions. The philly cheesesteak was a bit dry and could use more cheese. The fried zuchinni? a little saltier i'd say. but overall, I enjoyed this spot. If i ever come back to the HOTlanta, i would be back here

Service...8/10 Beer...6/10 Food...9/10 This place looks like a typical Irish Pub, but the difference is the food. Quick service, great portions and very flavorful. Beer reviewed low because several taps were messed up. Overall a great experience and will come back when back in town.

I was here the Thursday night of Dragon Con which is insanely busy, and that I expect at Dragon and do not mind. But after waiting in a long line, I went to order only to learn that the prices on their menu board were the lunch prices. They explained it was a new menu screen and didn't know how to change it to dinner. Okay, then. Honor the prices on the board!!! They refused and didn't seem at all sympathetic. Unfortunately, because we waited in line for so long we still ordered. I decided to order cheap due to the suddenly higher than expected prices and got grilled cheese with tots ($10.95) requesting tomato on it. The cashier told me I could put my own tomato on at the salad bar but that she understood it's better cooked in the grilled cheese so she would ask them to put it on. They did NOT- but it wouldn't have mattered anyway because the slice of cheese was only slightly warm and not at all melted in that grilled cheese- only the bread on the outside was browned from the butter to look appropriately good. But good, it was not. NEVER AGAIN. They have rude plaques all over the wall which perfectly reflects their actual attitude.

  • Scuttled C.

Buyer beware: they don't always honor their specials. We were trying something new at Dragon Con this year due to the late hour and chose this because it was close and open late. I ordered a drink off the specials list for the day and was charged full price. When I asked about my bill, first the waitress tried to say what I ordered wasn't the same thing and that a special wouldn't be on the actual menu (a lie, as all the other specials listed for the week were also regular menu items). Then she changed her story and said they weren't honoring the specials during the convention but hadn't been able to change the menus yet. This was Thursday night and the con wasn't really starting until the next day and there was no signage anywhere to state this. Most places downtown change their prices or limit their menus during con, but at least they give you altered menus so you know what you're ordering and what it costs. Bottom line, if you have one price on the menu then you should honor it. It's not my fault you didn't make changes in a timely manner. What I ordered was good, but I don't give dishonest establishments repeat business.

I am a fan of Gibney's on all counts -- they have the most delicious, wonderful chili frito pies (including your choice of beef, turkey or vegetarian chili) at a steal of a price -- and I dare you to try and finish your order all at once. As Sara M. mentions, the DIY toppings bar is also an awesome addition for anything you're ordering. It's quick and easy to walk in and grab a take-out order, or sit down at a booth in the bar (each has it's own TV, hello football fans) or at the bar itself (entertain yourself by reading the amusing phrases framed on the walls). They offer drink specials on Sundays during football season and have the NFL ticket -- with TVs literally everywhere. It's a sports bar haven. Plus, it's literally right at the Peachtree MARTA stop, so you can easily get here if you're staying at a hotel downtown or are traveling through and on your way to the airport. Good value and nice atmosphere for a sports bar.

One of the cooler things about this place is it's location, which screams "Hey, I bet you didn't expect to see me here!" I didn't. On the back end of an Atlanta high-rise is the bright red facade of Gibney's Pub. I'm not going to argue the semantics of what constitutes a "pub", but I will say that this is a cool little hot-spot. There's ample seating, lots of TVs, pool tables, daily drink specials and very professional bartenders. I didn't get to sample the food, I'm sorry to say, but what everyone around me was eating seemed to be very decent pub fare. If you're in the Downtown area Atlanta and are looking for a place to go have a drink, I recommend Gibney's.

Quiet bar with decent happy hour specials. Service was mixed, one friendly bartender but then another relatively bored waitress/bartender. Food options aren't that expansive, but portions are large (such as the mass of tater tots as a side). Buffalo chicken dip was good, heavy, and definitely made for sharing. Decent beer selection, and kitchen was open until midnight one of the nights we were there, so good option for late food.

  • Sara M.

This is a pretty decent lunch spot. You can get a burger, fries, and a drink for around $10. The food is nothing amazing, but I do appreciate the DIY toppings bar, which includes burger and salad topping standards, with which you are free to be creative. My fries have always come out fresh and piping hot. Throw some cheese on them, let it melt, and BAM! cheese fries. Clearly, I'm not all that creative. You order, pay, grab a tray, and then wait for your food to be cooked/prepared. Then you move on to the toppings section and finally, the drink station. There is sometimes awkward shuffling as people whose food takes less time have to bypass the people who are still waiting, but overall the system works fine. Be advised, this place allows smoking. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the reason this place is never packed. Luckily, I don't care about the smoking, so it means I never have seating issues. There is a street entrance on Peachtree Center Ave. or you can enter from inside the Peachtree Center mall area. Give this place a try!

I went to Gibney's several times because I was attending a conference at a hotel across the street. I love a good Irish pub and Gibney's did not disappoint. On my first night I had a great dinner (by pub standards). My first beer was bad, but they apologized and quickly fixed the problem. Our waiter was awesome. He was like the superman of waiters. He was able to give the beer fanatics among us good advice on which beers to try. I was wandering around and talking to people at different tables and somehow misplaced my drink. He found it and brought it back to me like a lost puppy. Even though we were all ordering food and drinks all night, somehow he managed to keep it all straight and get us separate tabs. On one of the other nights I visited we had a heavily tattooed female waitress with a bad attitude. She made every transaction feel like we were bothering her. Fortunately somehow she ended up migrating away from us and we ended up with superman again. He continued to impress. In short, this is my idea of a perfect pub - good service, good pub food, good drinks. If not for one lousy waitress, I would have given it five stars.

This place was AWESOME. We were in for DragonCon and somehow this place managed to have great food and service despite the insane amount of people. Such a friendly bar staff. They also have AWESOME bar food. This is a kick ass place to sit down and watch some sports too - there are little TVs at every table. Next time I find myself in Atlanta, I'll definitely return here.

4 stars simply because this is a bar that allows smoking. There simply isn't that many smoky bars anymore and this is the only place in the ATL downtown area that permits it. If you are from out of town and are staying in the Marriott, Westin or Hyatt then this place is about 5 minutes away from it.

During a recent stay at The Ritz I wanted a place to grab a burger and beer while watching NE v. NO on Sunday evening. LOts of t.v.'s and a projector screen to watch. This place fit the bill - bleu burger and two pints of Fat Tire. Service was prompt as could be in a busy place, beer was cold, burger was 7/10.

The ordering setup is a little unusual, but turned out to be more efficient than having table service. I had the chili frito pie & an Octoberfest brew, both of which were solid. The booths and atmosphere are comfortable, the place isn't too loud, and the price is about right.

Do not go here. Just don't. The only redeeming part of our visit here on a Tuesday night was that the server was fairly nice. The place was empty and we found out why. The food is disgusting. We wanted some snacks to share so we ordered mozzarella sticks, a frito chili pie, and baked potato soup, which was the soup of the day. The server came back a couple minutes later to say they didn't have the mozz sticks - oh well. The soup was awful - watery, bland, and freezing cold even after I sent it back. The "frito chili" was absolutely horrible - it looked like something right out of a can and tasted that way. We took one bite and sent it back. We decided to try some chicken fingers since we were starving at this point. They were somehow dry and greasy at the same time. We left hungry. The real reason this place is getting one star - the whole place was dirty, but the bathroom was a NIGHTMARE. One of the most repulsive, disgusting restrooms I've ever seen. I cringe to think what the kitchen looks like if that is how they keep the bathrooms. I went back to our hotel and took a shower. Save yourself the trouble and go to Meehan's, it's just down the road and it's a thousand times better!

We were staying at the Hilton Atlanta for the night and wanted to stay up for a bit longer. Luckily we found this gem within walking distance (only a block down). We were stopped by a homeless person even in that short trip, so it's best to keep aware of your surroundings. There seemed to be a good selection of draft beer choices that included some of the local breweries, but we stayed with Yuengling. As one of the cheaper beers on the list, it was a bit pricey at $5, but it was still enjoyable. The music was good, alternating between modern and classic rock tunes until two women decided on top 20s. The chili fries were excellent. The portion was a bit smaller than I expected, but they gave the option of beef or turkey for the ground meat. There were only two pool tables, that took $2 in quarters to play, but luckily it was a slow day and there was no wait. The cue ball had a lot of chips in it and there was only one chalk to share between the two tables.

A decent place that I would probably visit again with in Atlanta. The have a very limited draft selection due to a mechanical failure. The one bar maid was a little abrasive but all in all it was ok. She needs to work on her tip building skills! What appear to be the manager/owner was great. He took the time to greet you and welcome you to the pub. The pub was a little slow compared to the others in the area.
