I have had a few subs from Dave's and thought they were pretty good. I was a bit puzzled by the grated cheese at first, but it's the sauce that won me over. Not sure what it is but since I don't like mustard or mayo, the cosmic sauce is great alternative. I also like the fact that Dave appears to have a fondness for SF!

I like Dave's a lot. I agree with Carl. The sandwiches are better hot. i am not as adventurous as he is. I have the regulars that I order, a meatball sub and the incredible Dave. There sandwiches are consistently good. Although, I think I would avoid going there on Sundays. We usually place an order to go and enjoy our sandwiches at the park or something like that. The Red Cream soda is really good! If you have a mega sweet tooth like I do, they also sell brownies, cookies, and Jake's ice cream. Joel (the owner) couldn't be nicer and it is one of the best place to grab lunch in Atlanta.

I despise chain sub shops. This little shop is exactly what I like about small operations. More choice and variety of ingredients. Fresh tasty bread. Yummy and identifiable cuts of meat, etc. I never order sandwiches the way they suggest. They wait staff never seems too thrilled to help, but they are accommodating. My frequent dining partner loves the cosmic sauce and the club. Both are good. I've tried the tuna ,which is nice. But I love the turkey with bacon and guacamole. Love it! I enjoy the unusual choices of chip flavors and the tea is palatable. I like the Emory village a lot, so the outdoor seating is nice. The area is a little small, so if the usually gaggle of students is there, it can be a bit noisy. The serves is fast, the sandwiches are filling and tasty. It is a cool little spot to get your grub on. If you need to have your butt kissed try the chain spot across the street.

while they could keep the building a bit cleaner/nicer, this is still my favorite place for subs in Atlanta. I've always had friendly service, especially from the guy that runs the place. They have the best meatball sub I've had, and you can't go wrong with the #1. Hey, the grated cheese is awesome. If you can't take it, you sound like a whining 5 year old complaining about the texture of your food. But you'll be disappointed if you eat on the patio, because the place is kind of grungy. Just get takeout and go eat in a park or something, OK?

It seems Dave's is being run by children this summer. Went in yesterday and there were no big people in sight. I'm totally OK with this though because those mini-hipsters made a damn good cordon bleu. They've been trained well, so barring any Lord of the Flies-style uprisings or high school going back into session, I will be happy to keep those kids busy. Oh, to be 14 again and have those nimble little fingers.

I just love Daves! Anything with the cosmic sauce just tastes better. My favorites are Daves Club and Daves Cordon Blue. While I know it's more expensive than a fast food chain you get a much bigger and more unique sandwich for just a couple dollars more. I usually get a large and save half for my lunch the next day! Like many have said they can get busy during peak times but they allow you to call ahead. By the time I drive over it's usually done!

  • Drew G.

Great subs, great price-especially if you get the double order and save the second sub for lunch the next day. This blows publix subs out of the water!

Ingredients seem fresh, the bread is nice and a little independent sub shop if perfectly fitting for this building...but I don't get the grated cheese thing. Is it just me? Grated cheese is for tacos. I want sliced cheese on sandwiches. Throws me off every time.

I was a little sad when my one of my favorite ice cream places closed, but pleasantly surprised by its replacement, Dave's Cosmic Subs. This tiny sandwich shop is easy to pass by, but you will not be disappointed if you stop in and give it a try. The bread is always fresh and Dave's cosmic sauce is delicious. I prefer this sub shop to similar chains, because there is more variety and I find Dave's sandwiches to be tastier. The only seating is outside, so this is an ideal place to grab a sandwich on the go.

We come here because the food is very very good. Period. Service can occasionally be a little slow if they're busy because the food is FRESH. It's amazing how good they can make a simple turkey sub taste. The outdoor dining patio can be a bit dingy sometimes but on the plus side, we bring our dog there all the time to sit outside and it works great. The owner, Joel, is super friendly and exactly the kind of guy you would expect to own a quirky sub shop. Service is usually a bit better when he's there. But again, we come back for the food (though it is a touch expensive for a sub place).

An Atlanta native for twenty one years, and today was my first time. It won't be my last, though it may be the last time I get a sandwich from anywhere else as long as Dave's is open. Seriously, just come get a sandwich here. With over thirty pre-made choices (not counting substitutions), there's something for everyone. Easily among the best in Atlanta.

Yikes and no thank you. Menu looks exciting and has a lot of creatively delicious possibilities. However after a longer wait than is necessary the result is less than desirable. Worst tuna melt I've ever had, wet tuna which somehow still lacked the type of moisture which you do except (no mayo to be seen or tasted anywhere), and it was accompanied with mushy bread which had the cheese married onto it as if by glue. The bread was unforgivably soggy as well in the turkey club sandwich.

Great selection of subs and salads. Has a great hippie vibe and fast turn around. I had a chicken cordon bleu which was pretty good. They only have outdoor covered seating so if it is in the middle of the summer or cold out I would plan on doing pick up. This place is close to Emory and definitely geared around the college students.

Amazing American sub with corned beef! Definitely one of most memorable sandwich experiences. We pick up these subs and go to the park For a picnic and savor every bite!

Cute space and nice people but I didn't like that the tea wasn't made in-house (it's that kind they have at Boston Market- one jug with a spicket for like 4 different kinds of teas). I got a cold tuna sandwich. The bread was flaky- probably a tad stale- and the tuna has green olives in it. I would have picked them out but they were minced. The menu didn't say they were in the tuna (it shouldn't have to) but I should have asked. It gave it a weird taste and was not pleasant. I'll try this place again someday but I'm not in any rush to.

Tried this little hole in the wall sub shop and it was AMAZING. I was so excited to find out they had Barqs Red Cream soda on tap, it was a taste of home. ( I'm orginally from Ohio) The subs were mouth watering and I will come back again and again.

The Rueben and Peace Steak are great. Staff is friendly and down to earth. Will definitely add this place to the list of one's worthy of returning to.

Two words: Meatball. Sub. Do yourself a favor, get the Meatball Sub. I've had other subs there, and all are good, but the Meatball is crazy.

This is the sub shop to go to in ATL. This place is Kind of hard to fine if you are a first timer . I would suggest GPS. Mainly you will be going through a lot of reduental neighborhoods. I would call this a small hole in a wall sub shop. Seating sucks. Basically out door patio . In the winter time they have covers with heaters. The service is not bad . The staff are honest ,patent and consistent on every visit. If you a first timer they will even though you a few suggestions. Delivery can be a Hit and miss. I was told they have a high turnover in drivers. That sucks. The food . I am impress. I am from Philly and there sandwiches are pretty damn close to a hoagie. The bread is very similar you would get a Jersey Mikes but better. My favorites sandwiches are the meatball and the original sub The meat ball subs are to die for. The meat balls are at least 1 1/2 big. The original is basically and Italian sub with Pepporoni, genoa salami, prosciutto. Over all this is a one of a kind sub shop with there unique twist. Prices are reasonable and a great escape to the generic 5 dollar subs for a change!!

I'm originally from Cleveland, home of the original Daves', and I was thrilled to find the ONE location down here. Dave's is delightful, though not quite as good as its northern parent. Best sub place in Atlanta, and for reasonable prices. If you're cheap, one of the best things to do is to order a sandwich with just meat and cheese here. (And Dave's sauce, obviously.) They're really inexpensive (I think under $4?), but still a lot of food. The full subs are obviously wonderful as well. (TIP: up north, you could order "bread and sauce"-- which is bread with Dave's sauce-- for a dollar, and it was awesome. Not sure if that works down here.) I do wish they sold Dave's Sauce in jars here, but I'm just pleased they exist.

Absolutely the best! Local, delicious - you can tell the extra care and respect that goes into these sandwiches.

I've been here multiple times and it never blew me away. I'd go here because it's often less crowded and the parking lot next to it is never full. It really is just A-OK.

Dave's Cosmic Subs are out of this world! Dave's is located my Emory which is light years away from out of my usual places but worth the trip. Now if you never been here before the decor and look of this place might seem very alien. There are a lot of things from a very different time and a very different place like concert posters. But do not worry the menu isn't crazy and it's not astronomically expensive either. I recommended getting the #7 and a brownie and prepare to be abducted by the awesomeness of the meal! The only thing I will knock them on is that their seating area needs a space heater.

The Cap'n: "Dave, I need you to do your nation a great service." Dave: "Like, what's that, man?" The Cap'n: "I need you to save the teeth of your fellow Americans." Dave: "The teeth?" The Cap'n: "Yes, Dave. For too long has proper dental care gone by the wayside." Dave: "Hey, man... This is like, too out there, you know? I don't even know how I would do that, man." The Cap'n: "Are you familiar with Milkbone, Dave?" Dave: "The dog biscuits?" The Cap'n: "Precisely!" Dave: "I mean... Yeah, man. I know what Milkbones are. I've even tried them... I mean, like, on a bet. Not as good as Liv-a-Snaps, in my opinion, but they're better than Beggin' Strips." The Cap'n: "I need... NAY... Your country needs you to make Milkbones for people." Dave: "You're like freakin' me out, man. I don't even know what you're like sayin', man." The Cap'n: "It is your duty as an American to save the teeth of this great nation." Dave: "Now, wait a minute, man... I heard you're like not even a cap-" The Cap'n: "LIES!" Dave: "But, like, your stripes, man... You're like just a commander..." The Cap'n: "Silence!" Dave: "And what does this have to do with, like, the Navy and shit?" The Cap'n: "Do you refuse what your Country asks of you? Do you support the enemy? Are you in league with the Soggies? Do you serve al Saag Mas'dur and his axis of evil?" Dave: "Oh man you're like weirdin' me out, man... The enemy? Soggies?" The Cap'n: "Have you not heard a word I've said? Tooth decay! You must serve bread so hard that it cleans teeth as it's being chewed. Bread that will resist the Soggies..." Dave: "But, like... won't that like cut up people's gums and mouths?" The Cap'n: "It does not matter! It is for the greater good!" Dave: "And this is comin' from the Navy?" The Cap'n: "I have decades of experience in this matter, Dave. The cereals I created have protected the children of this nation for years." Dave: "Man, that doesn't even make sense... I mean, I like Peanut Butter Crunch and Oops! All Berries, but it's like full of sugar and leaves pieces behind in your mouth. Doesn't that cause, like, tartar build-up?" The Cap'n: "Absolutely NOT!" Dave: "I can't even eat your other cereals because they rip my mouth to shreds, man..." The Cap'n: "Silence! You will do as you are told or you will be thrown into the brig!" Dave: "I mean... Like... OK, man... I'll do it. But like can I get some Oops! All Berries? Like a lifetime supply?" The Cap'n: "I will discuss these terms with my commanding officer." Dave: "You mean, like, the Captain?" The Cap'n: "I AM THE CAP'N!" Dave: "Dang, man... Like, chill out... Do I have to do anything else?" The Cap'n: "Yes - Direct your staff to display no further signs of personality." Dave: "What does that got to do with tooth decay, man?" The Cap'n: "Just do it!" Dave: "OK, man. OK. I'll tell them to act like they're, like, zombies or robots or somethin'." The Cap'n: "Excellent! America thanks you, Dave. You are a true patriot!" Overall, 6/10.

I was so disappointing with this sub shop that I discovered which was closer to my house than Jersey Mile's. I ordered the Grateful Dave. It did not have all the ingredients listed on the menu.. was missing sprouts and tomatoes. There was so much mayonnaise I couldn't taste anything else. I will be making the extra haul to the best sub shop, Jersey Mike's. Major fail.

Always a delicious sandwich here! The Grateful Dave is my favorite -- everything always tastes so fresh. I've never been disappointed.

I have driven by this place like a million times and never been inside. Finally, earlier this week, I finally tried Dave's Cosmic Subs. I had the "Turkey Dave," which is turkey with lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese and banana peppers. Its kinda weird that they use shredded cheese, but it works. Most of the subs seem to come with "Dave's Sauce," which is a tangy, mayonnaise-based sauce. The bread they use here is really good. I opted for wheat and it was toasty and wonderful. Another bonus: they carry Zapp's chips, a New Orleans specialty. They also have "Dirty" and Miss Vikie's chips. The spicy Zapp's Cajun crawtator chips are my absolute favorite. I will definitely be back to try some other sandwiches. There aren't many independent sub shops in Atlanta, so I am really happy to find Dave's Cosmic Subs.

ooo-ee. Me likey. This is a great sub shop. The first ting to know is that it's possibly the best sandwich bread in Atlanta. I mean, COME ON. Really nice crust - not the chewy crap you generally find in the South. The bread itself is delicate but substantial enough to hold a sandwich - not the thin, dry, and airy crap you usually get around here. And, it's got FLAVOR. I mean, what the hell is wrong with Atlantans that they can't make a reasonable sandwich bread. I can't say enough about this bread. The sandwich options are pretty good. I usually go for tuna (they do the annoying Southern thing of defaulting to extra mayo on tuna salad, but they'll stop it if you ask). The service is reasonably quick. As long as the weather's not too bad, the outdoor seating is nice. And, a fairly good price. Sandwich, chips, drink about $8. (Like one of the recent reviewers, I was surprised I had not yet reviewed this place, as I work nearby - at Emory - and go pretty often.

Went today for the first time. I can't say enough about how fantastic this place is. I am sure the fact the weather has warmed up makes the seating area far better, but forget about that. The sandwiches my son and I had were the best subs I have ever had in Atlanta, and I have lived here over 30 years. Get Dave's Cosmic Sauce on your sandwich. It's amazing. They take a good little while to make the sandwiches, but that's because they are works of art. Be patient. Amazing. Also, the owner was there, and he couldn't have been nicer. I drove all the way over from Brookhaven, and I will be making the pilgrimage back very soon! Yummm!

Yesterday was my first time back at Dave's since undergrad, and the Spicy Dave was just as good as the last time I had it. Generous with the peppers and "secret sauce", this work of art was only slightly tainted by the slightly-too-hard bread I had forgotten about. Not enough to knock the rating down to 4 stars; this is the best sub place in Atlanta for an incredible price.

  • Charlene H.

Really neat atmosphere. Kinda crammed when its packed but if you aren't scared to get close its no big deal. I ordered a Greek salad and it was ok. I should have ordered a sub hence it is a sub place. My friends ordered a couple of the popular subs and seemed to like it. They have a delicious chip selection and a real funky older dude who calls out orders through a microphone which was real cute. All in all I will definitely go back to Dave's Cosmic Subs to try another selection.

    (4)
  • Brooks M.

Hands down the best subs in Atlanta. I have yet to be disappointed. What separates the subs from other places is the shredded cheese and Dave's cosmic sauce. Whether toasted or not, their subs are affordable and deadly tasty.

The boy has tried to get me to eat here for months. We happened to drive by it this afternoon and decided to stop for lunch. I got the Grateful Dave (turkey, avocado, sprouts, & mayo) & he got the World Famous. There was a line when we got there, but they had ours ready in 15 minutes or less I'd say. Plus, it was a nice day, so I didn't mind soaking up some 65 degree weather in January. The guy working the counter was efficient & friendly. I was happy with mine. It was a good size, reasonably priced, and tasty. I think I still like Jimmy John's a little bit better, though. It pains me to say that as I, too, prefer to support local business. If I'm in the area & want a sub, I know where to go.

While visiting with a friend who lives in this area, I just kinda stumbled across Dave;s. I love places with funky names that look kinda divey (usually means good stuff) and it was....oh and funky names as in "Cosmic"...that got my attention immediately. At first although I spotted the joint while riding by, I wasn't gonna stop because the parking lot looked too full to find a space so I whipped by...drove a quarter way of Lullwater then swung back ....had to try it and I knew I may not be in the area again real soon. Good choice! I parked, walked in and was greeted with the eclectic feel I dig, writing on the wall menu, has that college campus appeal (although I'm no student), kinda cluttery and small in a good way with loads of sandwich and chip selections. There is no way you should have trouble liking something, I had trouble deciding what to try first as everything on the menu practically appealed to me:-) I finally decided on the Super Dave, when I spotted pastrami, corned beef and coleslaw on a sub roll, that got my attention....I also ordered the Dirty chips, some new flavor called Funky ??? (sorry ate em' and tossed the bag too quickly but they were tasty, had a light tangy taste and I will remember them when I see them again) I had a to-go order as it was Fri, rush hour so I needed to get outta Dodge fast.....but because I turned back I did get snagged in traffic and was very tempted to taste but decided it may be messy) Well it wasn't. I will definitely go back a few times to try various sandwiches I made mental notes about,...... but the one thing that bugs me about deli sandwiches sometimes is the lack of loaded meat? My sandwich seemed more coleslaw than meat but still offered much flavor. While I was still there I noted they serve these really kool keylime chocolate covered bars ( I think ice cream) and they also have King of Pops icecream...Oooooooo:-)) Overall I just think this place is kool and the young ladies at the counter were friendly.... both were cute brunettes too:-) If you haven't yet, this place is worth the stop in ........

Ok, so usually I see subs as just a means to an end for lunch....not the case with this quirky and truly fantastic sub shop near the Emory campus. The quality is amazing crusty sub rolls that are a treat all by themselves and the cheese actually has flavor and tastes like itself and there is a generous amount of it! My personal favorites are Dave's World Famous and The Best Meatball Ever....which very well might live up to its name.

If you are looking for a delicious sandwich and nothing more, you really can't beat Dave's Cosmic Subs. The subs here are incredible - the ingredients seem fresh, the bread is delicious, there is a great variety of sandwich options, and their cosmic sauce is addicting. The Original is by far the best sub I have had in Atlanta (if not ever). I would also recommend Dave's for fabulous chocolate chip cookies. If you are looking for a sandwich place with great service and ambiance this should probably not be your first choice. The staff is pretty apathetic about customer service and making these subs in any kind of timely matter. It is definitely a "chill" atmosphere, which is fine if you are willing to be patient and do not expect any special accommodations for your sandwich needs. The only seating is in an enclosed patio - so I wouldn't plan to eat at the restaurant if the weather is at all nasty.

Dave's Cosmic Subs is the bomb. Great subs, cool vibe, outdoor seating. Good music! I'd recommend a specific sub, but they're all good. Probably the best lunch spot in Emory Village.

  • Yoojin L.

You wouldn't expect this little sub shop to have so many different kinds of subs! Their subs are all on a nice crunchy but soft hoagie loaf, whether it's a cold or hot sandwich. All their toppings are fresh, from meats to the veggies. "Dave's Cosmic Sauce" is not a creamy mayo-based sauce, like most restaurants would advertise. It's a oil-and-vinegar mixture, with (I'm guessing) Italian-style herbs in it. If you like spicy subs, I recommend getting the "Far Out." The chicken is juicy with melted cheddar cheese and crisp pickled jalepenos. Or, get the "Crazy Dave" "Hot," meaning it'll be toasted in the oven. The cheese melts perfectly and slightly cooks the prosciutto and capicola. The seating area isn't the most comfortable, so I recommend taking it to-go to enjoy your sub. However, the seating area is covered and provides a nice shade for "outdoor seating" conditions.

Great place to pick up a SUPER tasty sandwich for lunch. (I can't bring myself to call them subs, I grew up calling them hoagies, and real hoagies are hard to find.) I go to Dave's a fair amount, as it's convenient... and delicious. The bread is softly crunchy, tender with a good chewiness. The cheese is always melted just right. Lots of choices for sandwich fillings. Some vegetarian options (their version of a Garden Burger is pretty good). They use their own sauces -- the Cosmic Sauce is a vinegary Italian dressing. Sandwiches are about $7. You can get the larger size for about $10, but I'm always stuffed with the regular portions. My faves: -- Crabby Dave (crabcakes, melted cheddar, sprouts, spiced mayo) -- Tasty Bacon (a hot BLT, provolone, Italian dressing/mayo sauce) -- San Fran (hot turkey, capicola, cole slaw, cheddar, sauces) -- Grateful Dave (turkey, avocado, sprouts, tomato, onion, seasoned mayo) I'd recommend picking up your food and eating it elsewhere. You can call ahead to save some wait time. The wait is about 10-15 minutes. You can eat in, but it's a really small space, and the ambience is meh. But see, that's how good the food is, I gave it 5 stars anyway!

  • Alma A.

Friendly service and good food prepared fast! The gentleman behind the counter knew the ins and outs of every sandwich, and what substitutions worked well and which did not. Highly recommend the Hey Dave if you like rye bread!

  • Robert C.

At the very least, Dave's is convenient. My usual is a Grateful Dave, which comes with turkey, avocado, sprouts, and a mayo-like dressing (jalapenos optional). I've also had a few other varieties of sandwich here. They're enjoyable, if not particularly special, though I find the lightly toasted and crispy bread here particularly delicious. A sandwich, chips (there's a decent selection that isn't just Frito Lay), and a drink will run you almost ten bucks, so the menu here is probably a little overpriced, considering how small the portions are. But if you're not up for Panera, this is your only option for deli fare in Emory Village, on-campus dining options and Starbucks' pre-packaged sandwiches excluded. There's a covered patio area available if you want to dine in, but I've never bothered to stay. Parking in the adjacent lot is usually pretty easy, but it might get a little crowded during the weekday lunch rush.

Overall very tasty subs. This place is only getting three stars because of the blue cheese topped sub. It was disgusting. I was basically served a piece of bread drowning in blue cheese dressing. The number 7 was great the time before though. Worth a shot.

How have I not reviewed this place yet?? I spent many of my college days grabbing lunch or dinner here. It's situated near the end of the village, past CVS, and is easily overlooked. However, once you've tried a cosmic sub it's pretty easy to walk right past the other restaurants as you make your way to Dave's. The staff is always fun and helpful if you can't make up your mind. The seating is limited, but the environment is great if you can grab a seat. It is limited, but I haven't had a chance getting seating since so many people get their food to go or hurry off quickly after eating. As for sandwiches, they are fantastic. All sandwiches are served on their tasty hoagie bread (except the reuben - a hidden gem), which is crunchy and chewy. I have had a range of sandwiches, from cold to toasted, from mild to spicy, and I can assure you that you can't go wrong. My personal favorites are the Far Out, the Original, the Crazy Dave, and the Reuben. Skip over the restaurants that you can find elsewhere, and make your way down to Dave's to have a one-of-a-kind sub!

I was out on Sunday and looking for a place to get a quick bite for lunch. I tried to stop in the Panera in Emory Village for a sandwich. I quickly found that there wasn't an available parking space and ended up across the street at Cosmic Daves. I've passed this place a number of times and commented on it (in a somewhat joking manner) to my girlfriend when leaving Rise N Dine. This is definitely a prime example of why you don't judge a "book by its cover." First off, I walked in (still a little unsure of whether or not I had made a wise decision) and there is an old hippy-ish dude behind the counter that I can only assume is "Cosmic Dave." I don't know what his last name is, but he looks like Dustin Hoffman's brother, so we'll just assume he's "Cosmic" Dave Hoffman. Thinking that there's no way the Hoffman family would serve a subpar lunch, and knowing that I was starving and didn't want to leave to go to another place, I put in my order. I had the Turkey Dave. It was fantastic! The bread was delicious, toppings were fresh, and it wasn't over seasoned. The also have Zapp's potato chips, which I happen to enjoy quite a bit, but haven't had in a while. I definitely recommend stopping by for a sub if you're in the area.

I have heard a lot of great things about this small sandwich shack in Emory Village, and I finally got the chance to try it. I ordered the turkey club -- which came warm, and dripping with gooey cheese. It was delicious, and reminded of one of my favorite stops back home. I'd like to try one of their many different varieties again soon. The decor is interesting, it's definitely a local spot. I'd probably choose to take my order and go, instead of lingering on their patio -- it has a strange odor to it, although not overwhelming. Not necessarily a home run, but definitely a good choice.

My favorite sub joint in the world, yes the world. Everything we've tried on their long sandwich menu is delicious but I keep going back to the Crazy Dave (spicy Italian style sub) and the meatball sub. So freakin good!

    (5)
  • Ziggy S.

You can always get a good, solid sub at Dave's Cosmic. My favorites include the Crazy Dave and the Turkey Dave - get them toasted. The Cosmic sauce can be an acquired taste, but I love it. If you're not sure, ask for it on the side. Another big plus is the Zapp potato chips from New Orleans. The cajun crawdads are sublime.

Dave's is alright. It's nothing special. It's a small little place and the place can get pretty busy around lunchtime. I had the Dave's World Famous, but like I said. Nothing special. The regular was $6 and the large is $10. For me, that's kinda pricey for a sandwich. I must have caught them at a bad time as well, because I waited 20 minutes for my sub to get done. But people ahead of me were getting their sandwiches. I thought mine took a little longer to prepare. When I asked the guy, he gave me a look and went to the back. Weird. Overall, I dont think I'd come back. It was ok, but I've had better.

Everything here tasted just a bit off. Can't quite describe it. But it was just a bit under meh.

Dave's has a psychedelic and hippy's 70's feel to it. They have good subs. Their large subs are rather large. I eat more than most people, and their large filled me up. Would I go out of my way for a sub there? Probably not, but I would go there again.

Delicious! Lots of choices. Great flavors and super fresh. The space is small... but unique :)

I really enjoy this place. Great sandwiches - and a nice laid back atmosphere.

Dave's could be better if it was cleaner, friendlier and had more air conditioning. The menu is just okay, and I think I can do better than the amount of calories and the high prices charged at Dave's. The problem is that I cannot do much better in Emory village.

Wow. Great subs and you MUST try the Red Cream Soda; a fountain drink they carry. The staff are absolutely eager for you to enjoy your food. I had the #1 (Dave's original, I think) and the "Hey Dave" (#17 I think) and both rocked. Yes, that's right, I went twice on my first time through there. The "Hey Dave" was one of their more "Out there" sandwiches, but entirely pleases the taste buds. davescosmicsubsatl.com

Dave's is a good place if you're looking for something different, or if you just want to try a new sub. The prices are fairly reasonable for what you get. I recommend the San Fran. The place hasn't been too busy when I've gone, but I usually just get my order to go.

Love the large variety of subs, delicious assortment of kettle cooked potato chips and foutain drinks. Great subs with lots of flavor, best meatball sub around imho. Also lots of bang for the buck here. I would give Daves a 5 except for the fact that I am somewhat surprised that this place could pass inspection. Not the cleanliest of places but the sandwhiches are spot on. There is also a cool assortment of rock and roll posters throughout the inside.

It really, really pains me to write a low-star yelp review because I like to use yelp to highlight awesome local businesses that deserve props. However, I had a really bad experience here for lunch today. I ordered a sandwich at a time when they were busy and figured I'd have to wait for awhile. 30 minutes later, no sandwich - but people who had ordered after me had already eaten and left. I went back inside (I had been patiently waiting on the patio) and one of the teenagers working in the kitchen gave the owner lip when asked where my sandwich was - then the owner gave me lip. It's really frustrating when you wait patiently for your food and watch people who came after you get served ahead of you (and mind you I had a cold sub) - and the rudeness was really unacceptable. It's too bad because the food here is awesome, but I am not sure I'll come back here again.

This is probably my favorite sub spot in the city. I like the vibe and decor and of course the food nails it too. You can get any of the subs either hot or cold. I like that because I'm a big fan of the hot sub. My go-to pick here is the Crazy Dave, hot of course. Never had any bad service run-ins like it seems other folks have experienced. The subs aren't cheap but I feel like it's a good price for the quality and quantity you're getting. Well done Dave's!

One of the best sandwich shops in ATL! Very interesting and creative menu.

Had the Dave's Cosmic Sub, which to me was basically an Italian sandwich with the standard toppings and dressings. For about $7 dollars, it was just an okay sub-- not the largest of subs, but with a bag of chips should be enough for lunch. I don't know if I will come back here again, as I think I can find a better sandwich in the area. Bread was a bit toasted, which I liked.

If you order a boring sandwich, you'll get a boring sandwich. But if you're a little more daring, this is one of the best inexpensive places to eat in Atlanta. You're really better off with a hot sub here. The grated cheddar cheese is meant to be melted. If you are a fan at all of bleu cheese, cheddar cheese, and/or jalapeños, you will never find a greater sandwich on God's green earth than Dave's Famous Bleu. Pair that with a large cup of the bizarrely addictive Barq's Red Cream Soda (which I have never found anywhere else), and you will literally die and go to heaven, which you may not notice, because heaven is, in fact, Dave's Cosmic Subs. You'll get more consistent results on weekdays, when the owner, Joel, is working. He's the Dustin Hoffman-looking guy. No, his name is not Dave. This shop is apparently a franchise with 8 locations around Cleveland, Ohio, and one in Atlanta. It doesn't make sense to me either, but I don't ask questions, I just eat the sandwiches.

First time visit this afternoon for lunch... as I perused the menu and remembering the glowing remarks on Yelp for the hot subs, I went with the "Hey Dave," picked up a bag of jalapeno chips and went on my merry way. When I returned to my office, I unwrapped a very good sandwich. The Hey Dave features roast beef, horseradish, swiss, home made cole slaw, and banana peppers on rye. The roast beef was lean, very tender, and quite delicious and the cole slaw was very good - not too runny and not overpowering. The flavors balanced well, but for my taste I would have liked a little stronger horseradish. The rye was very good, just "tough enough" to hold up and not chewy. Another plus is that with everything going on with this sandiwch and after a 5-10 minute walk to my office, the bread was not soggy. I'm glad I got the jalapeno chips because they gave the spiciness I was looking for. They weren't busy at all and plenty of seating was available. However, this is also due to the fact that the semester is over. I would go back and another good sandwich would officially make me a "fan" as 4 stars would indicate.

Dave's is an essential lunch alternative in the Emory Village. They currently offer nearly 40 different sandwiches to choose from; Tell 'em you want your favorite one "hot" and they'll toast it for you. Prices are comparable to a lunch in the hospital cafeteria. Cool classic rock memorabilia provides a hip atmosphere. Best subs in town. Period.

i have only been here once, and probably won't return. The seating area on the deck was filthy I had time to sit and and observe just how filthy it was as I waited for my mediocre sub to come out. Meh. I will go somewhere else for my sandwich fix, thank you.

I ate at Dave's for the first time today. I usually don't like to give out 5 stars after eating somewhere only once, but the "Far Out Chicken" I had was amazing. It was possibly the best sandwich I ever had. I'm not sure why it was so good. I think it was either the Dave's #9 Hot Sauce or the Dave's Cosmic Sauce. The bread was good too. It was a truly excellent sandwich. I will be back.

davescosmicsubs.com/Atla… Groovy lit'le sub shack in Emory Village. A bit more pricy than most chain sub places, but worth it on occasion as the ingredients are so much more fresh.. Good quality bread, too!

The penultimate dive sandwich joint offers a number of signatures sammies. I came here for Dave's Best Meatball Ever. I'm glad to report it's truly the best meatball handheld I've ever scarfed down. Giant meatballs, soft bread, rich sauce and an abundance of gooey cheese make this sub one of the most extraordinary ones of recent memory. Dave's reminds you of your typical neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. Rock n' roll artwork, a giant menu board and friendly staff make the cramped space tolerable. Honest to God, these sandwiches are down-home righteous. If I lived remotely close to Dave's, I'd be there twice a week.

Love this place! Randomly stumbled upon it after a visit to Emory hospital and glad I did! The number 1 Cosmic sub is amazing! That cosmic sauce has to have something illegal in it since it is addictive!

Dave's is a great place for hot subs! This past time I got their club sandwich. For $6 or so, you can't beat it. I love the Dave's sauce too, which seems to be some sort of tangy mayo type sauce. This place is really casual and definitely has a college town vibe being right next to Emory. Because of that, it's a little more divey and not so great on the service. If you can look past that, though, the subs are quite good and well priced.

I ordered the original sandwich, which was loaded with Italian meats, cheese, lettuce, and banana peppers. I wish the provolone cheese was either in slices or melted because the grated cheese was falling everywhere. Overall, it was a hearty sandwich and I would have tried this place again if I lived in the area.

Speaking as someone who has never been a meatball person...the meatball sub at Dave's is absolutely sensational! I haven't craved anything else since I ate there for the first time last week. So yum.

Talk about an impressive selection of sandwiches - Dave's may have the most comprehensive menu (of sammiches) in Atlanta. There's everything from your classic Philly or Reuben to a more unique Dave creation such as the Pizza sub - which is what it sounds like: a pizza in the form of a sub sandwich. The space is quite small - really, it's standing room only; Luckily they have a PA system set-up to call your finished orders so customers can wait more comfortably on the patio - which is also their seating area. Sandwiches range from about $6-$7, with drinks and chips priced separately - the price for two people (with chips and drinks) is about $20 and some change - not too shabby for a fairly filling meal. On my last visit I ordered the Crabby Dave, featuring crab cakes (HA! Get it?), cheddar, sprouts, and spicy mayo. I voiced my concerns about just how spicy the spicy mayo is (if you don't know I'm a wimp with heat), and after the cashier and I bonded about our shared wimpy-ness, he asked the sammich prepper to go easy on the spicy mayo. If you're wondering, there is a bit of a kick, but with the light hand, it was tolerable and tasty! I especially love that they put sprouts on the sub - a treat and an unfortunate rarity! I also got to try a bit of the aforementioned Pizza Sub - which indeed lives up to its name - melted cheese, pepperoni, the works! The subs are prepared very quickly - it's a very cool hole in the wall to grab a fast and tasty lunch for cheap!

For a while I would run by Emory Village because I lived nearby. Dave' Cosmic Subs had always torqued my interest. My only bummer is the price. If you were looking to pay 9$ for a hoagie, then you are in luck.

This place is pretty cool. I've only been once, but enjoyed it. The garden burger really hit the spot! They have at least three veggie options that sound delicious so I'm sure I'll be back. I think I saw something about chocolate-dipped cheesecake. How enticing!

I love Dave's! I spent the summer in Atlanta and it was right across from my apartment so I ate there quite a few times. I tried: -The Original Dave's Cosmic Sub -The Crazy Dave -Dave's Best Meatball Ever -Brownie -Chili This place rocks! They usually take a little bit to make the sandwiches (especially when there is a line, which there usually is) so call ahead for fast service! Make sure you get the brownie. It is sooooo amazing. I recommend all of those sandwiches because none of them disappointed. However, I do not recommend the chili. It was kind of gummy and unflavorful. But the sandwiches rock so that makes up for it.

Had a hankering for a sub sandwich this afternoon, and was in the area. I got the meatball sub and was not disappointed. I'll be back to try some of the other sandwiches in the future.

This is the place you want to go for an amazing sandwich. They load up soft French bread with special sauces, cheeses, slaw, and quality meats. I love the San Fran and my fiancée says the meatball is one of the best. Its proximity to our house makes this a place we frequent. We usually order ahead and pick it up. The place is pretty small and they focus more making quality subs than they do being speedy!

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I don't understand all of the hype behind this place - I've had better at Jimmy John's. I ordered a turkey sub and I was like 'meh' and was kind of kicking myself for making the drive out here vs. just going somewhere up the street. The place is kind of divey - there was trash on the tables, which were all dirty (and it's not like we went there during a peak time). I didn't even want to imagine what the kitchen looked like. Long story short: While not terrible, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

I don't want to know what's in the cosmic sauce, but it makes the sandwich taste darn good. Plus, I give mad props for the owner to be driving a hybrid. The dude seems so yippie yet in a could be hippie establishment. Anyway, good, filling sandwiches (when Panera Bread across the street seems unsatisfactory -- portion size-wise -- and expensive). This joint gets enough traffic from Emory students so expect a bit of waiting if you get there around 1 PM.

Simplify the best sub in atl. Are they expensive yes. 10.00 for 14". You get what you pay for. Those that complain about price I'm sure there's a subway somewhere close. I've taken several people there with work and most are now addicted like myself.

Dave's Cosmic Subs is the best thing available in Emory Village. The sandwiches are solid, I've never been unhappy with my purchase. There are a ton of options and they are loaded. Its not a "nice" place and its very small, but its the definitive go to if you are in the area and hankering for a good sandwhich.

  • Chris K.

The meatball sub was delish. You can always tell a great sub when it comes wrapped in thick white paper. None of that tissue paper crap like chains. They also have Voodoo chips. If you go to Panera across the street, they will cast a lifelong spell on you.

Recently came back with some friends when we were visiting our old campus. The sandwiches are not as good as they use to be, but it is still a very interesting little place. The sand witches are very tasty and creative. There is not much seating other than a couple of metal tables outside.

I love these one offs in cities filled with chain fast food places. I was overwhelmed with the selection. I had the incredible Dave. It was very good! The decor is really cool- nothing fancy but quite memorable. I give Dave's the highest ratings for quality, selection and taste! Why can subway make a sandwich this good?

Get the meatball sub, bag of chips, and birch beer Fanta (yes, Fanta makes this flavor). What a way to spend ten and a half dollars! Every time I eat my meatball sub at Dave's Cosmic, it's like I've ascended to a cheesy, carby cloud of deliciousness. Our arteries who are about to solidify salute you!
