I'm a local West End resident and have been going here for years. I started my vegetarian lifestyle by eating here for two weeks straight, the vegetable side dishes are amazing. Chef is always there and is extra friendly. My favorite waiter Joshua knows my face and is always smiling. Don't be afraid of the exterior, just go in and please know what you you want because we are behind you and ready to eat !

This neighbourhood is bustling with good food, from the bean pies on the corner of Lee Street and Ralph David Abernathy to the smell of hot doughnuts on Gordon Street. In all Chantrelle is a soulful experience. I always order the broiled herb-encrusted white fish, with yellow rice and tomato basil vegetables. They have a lush shrimp Creole and a tasty baked chicken. This is the West End of Atlanta at its best. It has been around for a while but the food is still delectable.........this is coming from a ten year veteran............lush................

My mom and dad frequent Chanterelle's and talk about it too much. I finally gave it and try and all I can say is WOW. Chicken Curry and the sides were so good I can't even describe how good it taste. Chanterelle's might be my new pick me up meal.

Hmmm! I was not impressed with this place. The food was borderline nasty and I could not finish it. The party I was with had the same experience.

found this nearby Morehouse College. The menu was unique. I had the tilapia and my wife had the rosemary chicken. Food was good and service was ok. Could use some improvements but all in all I would eat there again.

I recently relocated back to Atlanta and could not wait to go to here as it had been one of my favorite soul food places in the city. Unfortunately, my food was barely edible. The Mac and cheese tasted slightly sweet which was strange. The Cajun fish tasted like it had been frozen and not fresh and the cabbage was well seasoned but tasted like it had been reheated. I ate the corn muffin and had to throw the rest away. The counter area needs significant cleaning or replacement. The best thing about my visit was the friendly service. I'm sad that the quality of the food has declined so significantly.

Food didn't live up to the hype...chicken looked good on display but it had no flavor like it wasn't seasond. .I will not be eating here again

My boss and another coworker treated me here for lunch on the last week of my internship. We chose to go here because it is fairly close to the office and I have been curious to try the food here after hearing so many varying reviews from people. Because of the mixed reviews of this place my expectations were quite low, but BOY was I pleasantly surprised! The food here was DELICIOUS! I tried the curry chicken, dressing, cabbage, and rutabagas. The curry chicken was absolutely the BEST curry chicken I have ever had at ANY restaurant, HANDS DOWN! The portion sizes were generous and the staff was excellent and very accommodating to us while we dined inside their quaint dining room. The food here is soul food with a French twist, so it is definitely not your average soul food spot. This place is definitely unique and holds its own in the Atlanta Soul Food industry. Give this place a try.

If 1/2 stars were an option I'd give Chanterelle's a 3.5. A friend of mine is a regular and has been telling me about it for a while. We met up for lunch last week and I was pleasantly surprised. While I was driving there, I was like, "Man, where the heck am I?" I hadn't been to this part of town, but it reminded me of the west side of Chicago. Parking was available right out front and I headed in. The outside looks pretty rough, but when you go in, it's a really clean and welcoming place. They have a counter with all kinds of meats and vegetables to choose from. I got the rosemary chicken, garlic potatoes, yellow rice, and creamed corn. Everything was seasoned well, the chicken was pretty moist, and you definitely get a lot for your money. My only knock is that it isn't the most appetizing looking spread behind the counter, and they used a little too much rosemary on the chicken. It took away from it a touch. I also got a piece of chocolate cake to go. I thought it was just okay (not moist enough), but I took it home and my wife actually liked it. Overall, Chanterelle's is a winner, in my book, and I'll definitely be back.

Rosemary chicken was to die for! I had seconds, which says it all. But staff isn't very welcoming--felt like I was bothering them to get food...

Near downtown, this is an easy spot to run into Atlanta's "good ole boys" from the gov't and schools. Mac & cheese, cornbread, greens, beans, peas, cakes, pies, etc. The food is good. The service is good. The ambience is basic old school buffet. The price is great for the generous portions. They have takeout, too. And homemade lemonade.

The food is Not good. I have been on 3 occasions to try and support this place, but the food is not fresh and many of the dishes are not homemade. You can taste the packaging, not to mention they have found a way to make all dishes sweet.

This place has a lot of history and the food that i've gotten here was good, but be warned that this is healthy soul food, so if you are looking for some greasy goodness you shouldn't come here. Its kind of dark on the inside but my mother loves it so I take her but I would whether go somewhere else for soul food....

Good food. The actual restaurant isn't that nice to sit down and eat. But the food is great!!!! I love the apples, curry chicken, and corn!!!!

Southern Fresh Food with Flair A stone's throw from the West End Mall, on a side street, across from Hank Aaron's "Krispy Kreme" this is a well kept secret! My favorite is the Shrimp Creole, fluffy flavorful rice, plump shrimp...seasoned just right. I prefer grilled food, most of the items are smothered in creams, sauces, ...but consistently fresh. Don't forget to try the lemonade, sweet with just the right amount of lemon pulp. . Pros: Great Location! Tasty Food! . Overall user rating: Recommended

I'm sorry to say this, but I just wasn't that impressed with this place. It's OK at best, but I will give them another chance. I went along with a friend who had been before and he seemed to like it, so I figured that I might like it. My biggest problem was, the place didn't have any macaroni & cheese that day (a must for me in a soul food restaurant). I ate the baked chicken, green beans, and veggie medley (typical squash, zucchini, carrots). The baked chicken was a little too dry for me, but had a good flavor. The green beans were french cut out of the can. An effort was made to season the beans, but they were alright at best. The veggie medley was darn right extra overcooked. You are given a piece of cornbread with your meal (I've had better). The waiter really worked hard to keep us happy, he was very attentive-which was definitely a plus. My friend seemed to like his food and while he was eating it, I was thinking to myself, "If you like this, then you will love what I can throw together." I just think that I could open up my own "competing" soul food restaurant if this is what folks are used to eating. Not trying to knock this place, but i'm just saying that i've had more soulful tasting food from my own kitchen. I will go there again and hopefully they will have some macaroni and cheese (which normally wins me over). At that time, I will be able to update my review. But for now, I will just give this place 3 stars..(2 stars for the food, 1 for the waiter).

Chanterelle's describes itself as "soul food with a french cuisine spin" Ok so I lived in Atlanta..nearly 5 mins from this place and i NEVER knew it existed. However I had "heard" that they had some good food. Now if your going to judge it on looks they get a "0" because it looks horrible from the outside....but once you go in.....you smell the wonderful aromas of all the food. The food is served cafeteria style...They have tons of choices...just to make ur mouth water i'll tell you a few....rosemary chicken, barbecue chicken, flounder, and vegetables.....they have potatoes, rice pilaf, squash, zucchini, cabbage, but everything is seasoned perfectly and very tasty. Oh and they have this wonderful, fresh, homemade lemonade....u HAVE to get that! Its a bit on the pricey side. I bought the rosemary chicken with potatoes, cornbread and a lemonade for 9.50 whew! Although they have this one cashier...she is just not friendly...i mean she has not smiled once and i've been going there for a year. I really wish they would replace her with someone a lil happier! Definitely if your in the area you should give this place a try. They have parking on the street and some reserved parking in the Krispy Kreme parking lot.

As I continue my Soul Food Tour, Chanterelle's was a hopeful farvorite. A co-worker said it trumped most of the other usual suspects amoung Atlanta's soul food elite. Thanks to some good intel from Yelp and some intuitive mastery of Atlanta layout and orientation, I was able to make my way there without using a map (when you see the Krispy Kreme on Abernathy, turn down the side stree Evans). It was as I expected, cafeteria style with lots of selections. There was rosemary flounder, beef tips, smothered chicken and sides like cabbage, rice, green beans, black eyed peas, mac n cheese and dressing. I ordered the tips, mac & cheese and creamed corn. Everything was tasty. .The beef tips were in a tomato based sauce that was sweet and slightly tangy--not unlike a Brunswick stew base. They had celery ribs, onion and green peppers mixed in. I should have oredered it over rice, but wasn't thinking. My creamed corn was in a very dense base, and nicely sweet and spicy. My mac was okay, it was very smooth, but nothing to write home about. My meat & 2 came with a corn muffin and was $8.50. All in all, it was definitely someplace I'd dip into if I was on that side of town, but not necessarily go out of my way to venture to.

I have been coming to Chanterelle for over ten years the food has been awesome, but I've noticed something different. I haven't seen "Chef" which is the owner. In months. What's going on??? I can tell he's not there because the food is going downhill!!! Chef if you are reading this post come back into the restaraunt. I can tell by the food YOU ARE NOT THERE! Until I hear that he has return, Unfortunately, I will not be back. Signed, Hate to Leave, But I Gotta Go

I have been eating at Chanterelle's for years now that's how good it is. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. Chanterelle's is a great place to stop by for a quick lunch or dinner. They always have a great variety of well seasoned vegetables and choices of meats. There cornbread is always yummy and comes with your meal. I recommend you stop by Chanterelle's if you live nearby or work downtown.

Before I begin, will admit that I am slightly biased because this is my Uncle's place. Let me begin with, if you have gone to Chanterelle's lately and noticed a slight difference in taste and quality, it is ONLY because Chef has been away for personal reasons. Otherwise, he is there faithfully each day preparing every dish throughout the day. One day he will return. His establishment has not been a staple of Atlanta's scene for 20+ years over nothing. When Jeezy, Bruce Bruce, Kenny and any other celeb come through, they know its worth it. Let's not forget, I agree there is some change but it temporary.

I live in the west end and have eaten here often. Food is good and seems to have less sodium than most soul food restaurants. Disappointed with condition of restaurant - dark, dingy and in need of serious updating. I have stopped patronizing the restaurant until they reinvest back into the business.

Even though my father is from the south, I never grew up eating soul food. So it's really difficult for me to not stop thinking about how fattening everything was. But you have to. Their food is drenched in butter and god knows what else but it was delicious. Not what I'd call a classy place but the people are super nice and the service was really good. I do have to give them an extra star off for the fact that I saw roaches right after I had finished my food. I realize it's the south and in the middle of summer but I just can't do it. To-go next time.

Always a top option when I don't want to cook, but still want a real meal. The chicken is always baked to perfection and the vegetables fresh. Next time I'll try the French peas.

I had the pleasure of dining at this fine restaurant today. This is the classic down home restaurant. Chanterelle's features down home country cooking in a casual sit down environment. The restaurant is rather nondescript from the outside. It would be easy to miss if you weren't actually looking for it. You can park on the street in front of the restaurant but there is also reserved parking in the lot across the street. Inside however, is a treat for the senses. The walls are decorated with dozens of pictures of great african americans. You pick up your food cafeteria style from the center and when you enter you can smell all the delicious foods immediately. The staff is always friendly and after you get your tray, the waiter brings your drink to the table and makes sure that everything goes well. Chanterelle's is a Halal restaurant. Halal is similar to Kosher, so you wont find any pork there. You will find fish, beef, chicken and plenty of vegitables, starch and assorted desserts. Great place to go for lunch, you can order food to go.
