Great food and even better service!!!! When you walk in you're greeted with smile. Every person in there is a volunteer, however they treat you like you're at a 5 start restaurant. Everyone came over said good morning and spoke to us! I feel so great after having brunch. The good food and great company has my morning off to a fabulous start! I will be back...

Food was great. More importantly brunch was for a great cause. Staff were volunteers and the chief was a local top chief. Wonderful concept.

Great food service and important social service the community! Chicken and waffles were wonderful too.

Wow!!!!! This brunch spot is amazing! The menu has something for everyone, and the quality -and quantity- delivered beyond my expectations. And to top that, it is run primarily by volunteers and 100% of proceeds go to support Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency which provides curruculum, coaching and life skill training for homeless men and women that want to re-enter the workforce. Win win all the way around!

Love love love love love this place! First off we came here for brunch & had no idea about the concept. The people are sooo nice here & to think 100% of our money going to help homeless is incredible. I had the steak & eggs special with whipped cream & berries and it was excellent!! The steak was seasoned so well and the berries sooo scrumptious! The sweet potato pancakes were wonderful. Wish I lived here so I could eat again & volunteer!

Food was delicious, it's all for a great cause. People mostly volunteer their time for the Sunday brunch. You can also go to the website to signup and volunteer. I must admit it can be a long wait on Sunday's and it gets pretty busy. I suggest rsvp'ing on the site before hand. It took 45 minutes exactly for our meal to be brought out that's how busy they are with volunteers serving as waiters . Food is amazing just have patience when coming here. Free parking in the parking lot of the building. Not enough spots but first come first park.

out of fried chicken when i got there. tried to call up there to see beforehand but their phone system is weird and it appears you cannot directly call them on a sunday. waffle was average. i went only for chicken and waffles. chicken sausage was pretty good.

Amazing concept. All proceeds go to charity. All "employees" are volunteers. I ordered the catfish and grits. Overall, tasty, but the fish could've used more seasoning - somewhat bland. The grits were perfect. The service was exceptional and friendly. I mentioned causally to my guest that I needed to ask for hot water and two seconds later, it was on my table. Talk about attentiveness! I'll definitely come back during my next visit to Atlanta.

I had Brunch here for my birthday a couple years ago. I like the concept of having volunteers help serve food and benefiting homelessness.

This resturant is doing a great cause! The food is decent. I would recommend the chicken and waffles and the grits.

Things were very good for a first time visit. We met Marin and Ali upon arrival and a host of beautiful Spelman volunteers. These ladies, including the Chef were amazing. The catfish was perfect and the home fries are D-Lish! Once you visit you will be here again. Sorry for not providing pictures of the food, but trust that the things I review are with the utmost integrity. enjoy this and many more!!

  • Daijah R.

Couldn't believe the sweet people there were volunteers! Honestly restored my faith in humanity! And the FOOD! Delicious! I had the shrimp and grits! I can't wait to go back for more!

So YuMmY!!! People are wonderful! Such a great mission! Make a reservation. We did and breezed right past the dozen or so people waiting for a seat. Be prepared - when a restaurant is open one day a week, they may run out of certain menu items, be flexible as everything is delicious and served with love. All six of us cleaned our plates. Will do this again soon!

I remember when I was in high school we came to this place to volunteer. I never knew this place existed or if it was open the few times I passed by her as a child . Of course being in high school I wasn't open to volunteering my time on a Saturday morning . I am forever grateful that I did . My task for that day was hosting . I spoke to the guest showed them where to sit & gave a menu . It was an awesome experience in the end . I learn the reason about this establishment & everything they do for the homeless . My mood change & I felt great about giving back . Moving forward to now the service is still awesome & the food was delicious too .

Delicious breakfast/brunch. Had a large group and everyone felt the same. The Eggs Benedict were served with a gravy instead of hollandaise sauce which was different busy tasty. Apple Cinnamon French Toast was also a favorite. Also had great chicken and waffles. Loved the concept of this restaurant and would definitely recommend trying it.

I stopped by here on my way from GA to Destin, FL and it was a SURPRISE. Best service I've had from a restaurant in a long time and that supports the food. Great is an undermine for the food from this old town legend.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to discover this great Sunday brunch destination while searching the yelp app! The food was perfectly executed and the staff who served us were all friendly and attentive and get this they are all volunteers !! You cannot beat the price for the meal and best of all you are extremely gratified because the entire purchase price for the meal is going to a homeless charity !!! Can you beat that ?? So, put on your next Sunday brunch meal schedule a stop at this amazing charity and wallow in the love and great meal..,,!!!

My boyfriend and I came across this place on Yelp when trying to find a new spot to eat brunch. The thing that attracted us to this place (and will keep us coming back) was their cause. All of their proceeds go to help the homeless in our community become self-sufficient. The only thing that kept me from giving this place a full 5 stars was the food. I had the peach French toast, which was very tasty. Nothing spectacular, but still delicious. My boyfriend has an eggs Benedict dish, which he said was pretty bland. Regardless, this is a place you definitely need to check out! Only thing that would have made this place even better would be if they made mimosas! :)

  • Aurielle W.

What a great concept of serving to the general public every Sunday and using the proceeds from the meals and tips to cook meals for the homeless population Monday thru Friday! The food was actually very good! Everything that came from the kitchen looked delicious! Make a reservation because they fill up quickly but if you want to give to a good cause and enjoy a good meal Cafe 458 is for you! I'll be back for sure!

  • Tosha P.

Husband and I went here today. I knew the concept and was curious about the food/experience. We were not disappointed. Concept, service and cause would get more than 5 stars! 2 out of the 3 waitresses were brand new. You could tell that they were nervous, but they did a great job! I had the shrimp and grits while the hubby had the French toast. Both were really good! We got there right at 10a and they weren't fully ready yet, so next time we will go around 11a or so when they are in the groove of things. Great way to fill your belly and do a good deed at the same time!

Great concept to pay it forward. Me and hubby liked idea, but food was just ok. Tried salmon croquettes, sweet potato pancakes, and eggs/ bacon. Good thing is there was no wait.

Awesome place and what a great concept. Do something good for others while enjoying a great breakfast. Great food and service. Be sure to tip big. All goes to charity.

Seems our group has mixed reviews on this place, but I loved it. It is definitely no frills, but it's clean and it's for charity. The service can be spotty, but what can you expect when you have volunteers waiting the tables. The chef is professional, however. I highly recommend the fried chicken. It comes as chicken and waffles. However, I am not a Belgian waffle fan. I like the regular thin waffles...a la waffle house. lol. So, maybe that's why I did not enjoy the waffle portion. If you are like me then I'd suggest ordering the fried chicken a la carte...it's worth it. The sweet tea and the grits were excellent as well. My friend had a seafood omelet...it was a special that day. It was awesome! All in all I recommend this place for a good brunch. Keep your expectations in place as far as ambiance and service. All tips and cost of entree goes towards charity. Tip: Do not park in the lot beside the restaurant...it's reserved for other establishments, your car will be towed. Park for free on the street or the alley behind the restaurant.

I had to pleasure of dining here and really enjoyed it! The fact that eating here gives back to our community means a lot! The food is good, staff is super friendly & helpful, and chef accommodating! I had the Southern Comfort french toast! Yummy! The shrimp & grits my friend got looked good.

  • Melissa R.

This place is amazing. I don't even remember if the food was good (I'm sure it was). But the place itself is awesome. Everyone who works at this place are all volunteers who use the money to help the community. Its such a cool place to have brunch at whether you're ordering some grits or fried chicken and waffles. It was all good. The waitresses were super attentive and very helpful. The chef came out to take a picture with our group. Everyone really had that southern charm. It's right next to the MLK memorial soooo if you're there to check it out walk on over to Cafe 458 and enjoy some lunch before your tour.

  • Karen A.

What a great place! Truly a gem. The volunteers were very nice and my food was great. It felt good to know that the cost of my meal was going to such a great program. I will definitely be going back!

Cafe 458 is a truly unique brunch experience that would deserve a visit even if the food was bad. The great thing is, the food is phenomenal. The cafe is run by Samaritan House, a charitable organization that helps homeless men and women get back on their feet. On the weekends, the cafe opens up to the general public and serves a great brunch staffed entirely by volunteers. The proceeds from brunch (including the servers tips) go towards funding the weekday recovery programs. It's a refreshing experience where everyone working early on a weekend is there by choice and happy to be there. The service can be a little spotty, but it's not a shock when the servers are predominantly high school age volunteers with no food industry experience. That being said, no one complains since the kids are there donating their time and money to charity. Besides, the food and the good cause you're supporting make up for it. The menu changes seasonally and there are weekly specials, featuring variations of pancakes, frittatas, and bread pudding french toast to name a few. Think Southern food but with fresh ingredients and fine dining flourishes. All in all, it's great food and a great cause.

What's better than a $.25 cent brunch with friends? (I'll explain in a minute) Brunch with friends at a restaurant where all proceeds and tips go to the Samaritan House, a non-profit in Atlanta serving the homeless. My brunch this past Sunday began waiting in line at The Bureau for their $.25 brunch (2 drink minimum), and after seeing the brunch, it quickly changed to three girls making a short walk to Cafe 458. I couldn't have been happier with our change in plans. nothing against The Bureau, just not exactly what we were hoping for. Although you can't beat the price during these economic times...anyway, back to Cafe 458. The menu is pretty simple, but the food was tasty!! I had the WHite Board Special #3 which was a spinach and cheese omelet with choice of sausage, toast and homefries. The omelet was HUGE and I swear they put some garlic powder in the eggs; which made it a nice surprise. I love my omelets with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Anyway, they give a hearty portion of food for this meal at $9 - which isn't bad at all. I loved the decor in this seemingly simple space and really gave the place a nice comfortable organic feeling. Seating is limited and staff are really friendly and you can tell they believe in the mission of this organization. You can tell they had simple ingredients to create their dishes, so please don't come expecting Rathbuns and you'll be fine. Also, come with good company. This place actually stirred up a 3 hour conversation on non-profit organizations in Atlanta. You should try this place out. The only thing that was missing from my brunch was the bloody mary's I was originally looking forward to. No alcohol served at this place, but that's ok. What a perfect way to kick off MLK and Obama's inauguration! =)

During the week, Cafe 458 is a program that helps homeless men and women get back on their feet, offering a clothing closet, laundry, storage space, counseling, case management, free voicemail, telephone access and employment referrals. On the weekends, the Cafe serves brunch. And oh, what a brunch it is. Try the hash browns fried up with a fresh veggies. It's a meal unto itself. Or a slice of asparagus and tomato quiche, which comes with a biscuit and your choice of meat. All proceeds, including tips, benefit the Samaritan House of Atlanta. A good meal. A good cause. What more could you ask for?

I adore this place. From the food, to the service, to the fact that all proceeds go to helping the homeless. I can't say one bad thing about this place. For a place that is ran with the help of volunteers, this place is ran well and the food is pretty darn good. Brunch buffet is $12.96 with tax and the stand out is the 2 types of bacon, grits, and biscuits. Yay, I'm a fan!

Its great that the money and tips go to the homeless but the food is worse than dennys.

A friend found this place online. We go out to breakfast every weekend all over Atlanta. It was, hands down, the best food and service we've had in quite some time, and your bills goes 100% to ACSS, including the tip! Ask for Eldredge for your server! The King Center is right around the corner; have brunch and make a day of it!

First there is no wait . Got right in sat at table. I order my favorite shrimp and grits. My roommate order the traditional cafe breakfast. the potatoes he had with his breakfast was the best he ever had in atlanta. When I got my shrimp and grits, at first I was like uggg, saw a lot of red sauce, but I went ahead tried it.. It was very delicious, the grits were AWESOME. I felt so good eating there knowing that the money spent here is going to help the homeless.. So you leave with a very warm and fuzzy feeling. There was NO WAIT at all for service, and the food is so good.. I will definently go back to this place.. the the PRICE IS CHEAP!!

Great business model. Volunteer servers were friendly and better than many servers who actually make money for their work. There was no wait and we received our food in a very timely manner. I ordered the Chicken N' Waffles. Large portion. Comes with a large Belgian waffle with 6 fried chicken wings on top all drizzled in syrup. My advice add hot sauce and butter. Delicious. I WILL be going back. It's a great place to take friends.

Let me start off by saying, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO FOR BRUNCH ON A WEEKEND. If you see the line at Highland Bakery, just make a beeline here. you wont regret it. Im pretty tempted to give this place 5 stars. Its a few dollar cheaper than my other favorite breakfast place Highland bakery, and the food here is almost as good. i guess almost is a good way to describe this place. which in context of its purpose is a huge compliment. I came here again and got their omlet with ham and cheese in it as well as skillet potatoes, and boy do i have to say, it was a pretty damn fine omelet. fluffy, filling, with a perfect distribution and amount of cheese and ham. I also got their banana french toast, which was kinda a disappointment to me after experiencing highland bakery's regular and peanut butter french toast. they use white bread here i think. Though it is sliced pretty thickly so it kinda makes up for it. The banana flavor came from the banana cream cheese which i think may have been made from ricotta cheese. it also had cinnamon in it as well, which gave it a darker brown color. Again, not the best, but a good dish nontheless. I think when i come here next time ill get the omelet. but.. my favorite thing about this place is that they have weekly specials, which i usually order. Highland bakery should take a lesson from this place.

Have to give this place a five for the concept. I volunteered at this restaurant 3 years ago when i was in school. Go to this restaurant if you want to give back to Atlanta

I was most impressed with the way this locally significant cafe brings together people who volunteer to make a difference (this including the customers) and help those in need--through cooking and eating. Overall it's a unique experience, with a little feel-good element thrown into it. I don't share the opinion that the brunch is "some of the best" in town, but it's surprisingly good especially considering the changing and non-paid crew. (only the chef gets paid; there's been several chefs in the last 5 years or so I was told) You really come here for the experience. You are sitting in the same chairs that the people whom this place benefits would sit during the week. Through the open kitchen you watch the volunteer hard at work (servers too) and can't help but somberly recognize that your life's little troubles and worries are after all not that significant compare to many unfortunate souls'. The price is higher than normal but a non-factor as many get into a donation mood coming in anyway. To be honest it wouldn't be a place that comes up in my mind when I am just thinking of a short list of "best places to go for brunch" when only the food and service and price is considered, fair and square. It's an experience I have to be in the mood in to partake. But as a local you must at least try it once.

Why this place doesn't have a line around the block baffles me! This place is INCREDIBLE! No waiting, an impressive menu, moderately prices, amazingly nice service and it's all for a great cause! We discovered Cafe 458 this Sunday through Yelp and decided to check it out. They're only open to the public on Sundays. We were greeted by a super-friendly host, taken to our table where we were promptly welcomed by a volunteer waitress with a smile from ear-to-ear. The menu is impressive - I had the Southern Comfort Stuffed French Toast with a side of Potatoes. Totally incredible! My partner ordered the Taste of Atlanta, Award-Winning Shrimp and Grits which were to die for! Totally check this place out! All profits and tips are "fed" back into the Atlanta Homeless community. "Eat Well. Do Good!"

I love the feeling of helping the community just by stuffing my face with my favorite foods. As I stated many times during the meal, I'm sold on Cafe 458, the soup kitchen that offers a brunch for charity on the weekend. But here's what Cafe 458 is not: it's not a place to go if you're going to get stressed about the service. The waitstaff are volunteers, and especially if you're in a large groups, the kitchen will very likely get backed up, and you may be waiting awhile. Who cares, though, when it's a lazy Sunday morning and you're in good company? Plus, the waiters are friendly. They WANT to be there. You may have five different servers over the course of your meal, but they're all super nice. It is also not a place to go if you want a fancy atmosphere. It has the feel of a cafeteria or dining hall, but a very clean and friendly one. There are inspirational messages on the walls, and in one of the rooms there is a wall of bricks with interesting carvings. The main cafeteria is an open kitchen. The dishes and coffee mugs are nonmatching, as if you're eating at someone's house. But the fact is, you can go anywhere for matching dishes. But the food is good, they've got good selections, it's vegetarian friendly. Some menu items: french toast, biscuits & gravy (vegetarian available), veggie hash, eggs any style.

Not a lot to say about this place except I like the concept and the cause. The food was basic. Nothing to write home about. I got the Grits, Eggs, Biscuit, and Home Fries. My friend that dined with me got the short stack of pancakes, turkey sausage, and scrambled eggs. Like I said the food was very basic. We weren't impressed. If I go back it will be only out of obligation to the cause or to just volunteer. The interior was nice. The bathroom was clean however the door didnt lock. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded, we were seated right away and it didnt take a long time for the food to arrive to the table after placing our order. I say if you are looking for a cheap breakfast and want to support a local cause, check it out.

We tried Highland Bakery's brunch the morning before, and were looking for something different for our last morning in Atlanta. After yelping, our group loved the cause behind this cafe, and decided to give it a shot. Based just on food, this place would only get 3-3 1/2 stars, but the idea behind the cafe and the cause gets this place a 4 star review. 2 people at my table ordered the peaches & cream pancakes. The pancakes had a great flavor, almost cinnamon-y, with fresh sliced peaches on top. Unfortunately, they were out of whipped cream...so it was just peaches pancakes. Considering the place is volunteer run, it's kind of hard to get upset. Another person ordered the veggie omelet which was delicious. Good flavor, fresh veggies, and a great price. It also came with grits, veggie sausage patties, and a homemade biscuit. I ordered the special of the month...strawberry french toast with a side of meat. The 2 slices of texas toast were stuffed full of fresh strawberries and cream cheese, and were drizzled with a strawberry compote and more fresh strawberries on the side. It was delightful, and I also enjoyed my veggie sausage patties. It was a great feeling to enjoy a good brunch, and know we were making a difference. I'll come back to visit.

I think the other reviews say it all- great concept, ok food, non-professional quality service with a smile. Very friendly volunteer staff. The food that my friend's ordered was cold and unexciting. I, however, lucked out by choosing the shrimp benedict. It was excellent. Would recommend going and ordering the shrimp benedict :)

There is something special about a breakfast at a cafe cooked and served by volunteers!! Sort of tells me the food is cooked with LOVE. I brought my Grammy here right before I took her to church at Big Bethel and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I had the chicken & waffles and it was great. The service was so pleasant I felt like I was eating breakfast at a close friend's home. This place is my one and only Sunday breakfast place that I love to take family and friends visiting from Los Angeles...Gives them a real taste of southern hospitality.

  • Juan M.

Doing well and doing good - I love it. Sure, the food isn't haute cuisine, but I really liked this place for two reasons: 1) It supports something that is a "people enabler"; this organization helps others help themselves (which is cool) versus just giving a handout. 2) The servers are volunteers (our server was a consultant with Booz Hamilton) and the experience that these folks have can be transformative for them, too. Anyway, the food was decent and we'll be back. P.S. We took all 5 kiddies.

  • John A.

I've volunteered at this place, and the staff are great people. The Executive Chef (yes, they employ a real chef) knows what he's doing. Their brunch is great, and you get plenty of food for your money. Not only that, but the food goes to the Samaritan House of Atlanta, which helps with the homeless. They recently had a interior makeover, which added a much more pleasant decor to the cafe. Sadly, the place doesn't appear to be as busy as they should be. The food is great, and for the price it's a steal (since they're staffed mostly with local volunteers). I suggest you go try this place, then take your friends along. Only when they're able to increase their business will they be able to have longer, steadier hours of operation.

  • Addy C.

The concept of having all proceeds & tips go toward the Samaritan House is awesome. I think this was like my 4th visit over the years, and when I come here, it makes for a great conversation topic to raise awareness about the creative ways to support a cause besides just flat-out donations. It's also cool to think that during the week, this place serves as a shelter for the homelessness and during the wknd, people like you & me come here to eat brunch. So when you come here, keep in mind that the place is almost all volunteers - your server probably has never tried any of the foods before and probably can't answer any questions you ask ... remember that your entire tip goes to Samaritan House :) The food here was just ok for me - I ordered the "New Orleans Breakfast" which included an omelette w/ chopped Andouille sausage & red peppers, 3 sausage links, potatoes, & a biscuit for $9. A pretty hearty-sized meal. Remember you're here to support a great cause and the food starts to taste pretty good :) They do separate checks and accept all credit cards - so that's cool, too.

This place is a WIN WIN all over! First all the cooks and servers are volunteering their time. The proceeds go to The Samaritan House - helping homeless men and women achieve self-sufficiency through personalized employment readiness and life stabilization programs. And the food IS AMAZING. Now my friend and I lucked out because we didn't order the Southern Comfort French Toast but apparently they had one too many and it went to us. MMMMMMMM....it was like starting out with dessert. My friend got the shrimp and grits (minus the grits + the potatoes) and I had the Cafe Combo (eggs, meat, biscuit). Looking forward to going back again.

I went here specifically to check out and support the novel endeavor: a cafe that donates its entire profits, including tips, to the Samaritan House. That said, I wasn't expecting very much from the food, though. I was pleasantly surprised. It's your standard fare with slight twists: Costa Rican pancakes [topped with bananas & pineapple], Southern Comfort French toast, "Puerto-Rican flavored roast pork." Aside from the dubious nomenclature [what *do* Puerto Ricans taste like?], we found the actual selections solid and appetizing. Service was friendly and timely. We received constant refills of water and coffee, often accompanied by a smile. When we first arrived, there were only two other tables occupied. By the time we left, it was filled to full capacity. Aside from the inherent altruistic nature of the cafe, you also got the warm fuzzies from the diverse groups of people all dining towards a common cause as the thunder and lightning crackled outside.

Picture the scene....two extremely hungover squibs who feel like they haven't eaten since Nam. Neither of us had our car so we commandeered an eco-friendly Yaris that would get us from point A2B. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess with sunshine sparkles in her eyes and she informed us of all the great benefits of dining at this fine establishment. (I think its Thurs., Fri., and Sunday the proceeds go towards feeding the homeless) The chef came out and greeted us himself and actually took our order. He was cool. I had the chicken and waffles-thai style and my partner devoured his whole plate of fish, shrimp, and grits...being the 6'7 swamp sweaty sea sloth that he is. The food was yummy and definently recommend coming here when you are hungover or just want to enjoy a meal with plain-clothed civilians

I really wanted to like this place. It's for a great cause and all the volunteers are really happy to be there. The food just fell short. It wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't anything memorable, either. My husband and I ordered the cream cheese stuffed french toast with pears and bacon, cheese grits, and biscuits and gravy. The french toast was just okay. The pears were cold, which certainly didn't help the dish. Bacon was cooked perfectly. Biscuits and gravy not bad, same for the grits. I'm glad other people enjoy coming here and support the Samaritan House; it's just not for me.

Five stars for the warm fuzzies I got knowing the money and tips all went to a good cause: the Samaritan House. What a fantastic concept! Why don't more restaurants do this? God knows there are enough hungover, gluttonous people in the world clamoring for greasy food to ease their alcoholic tummies. Having said that, the food is also amazing! There was no wait (crazy during Sunday brunch rush hour) and our waiter (a volunteer) was just as friendly and efficient as could be. Being the sugar hound I am, I ordered the Southern Comfort french toast. Oh lordy. The fruit sauce was lemony and light and fantastic. A cream cheese and fruity mixture was sandwiched between my Texas Toast. Now, I must say, being from Texas, it was not quite Texas-sized. But be warned, I am a fatty beast used to monstrous portions. So if you're normal, this should be enough food. The specials on the board looked great as well. My friend's daddy ordered the Seafood omelette ($9) and it was filled with crab, shrimp, and lobster. Also came with grits and a biscuit. Hot damn! Also can't go wrong with the Cafe Special: 2 eggs, meat, biscuit, and grits or home fries. The coffee ain't too shabby as well. And I loved the chocolate brown/light blue decor. An all-around fantastic Atlanta experience for this out-of-town drunkard.

After nearly biting a girl because I was so hungry, I headed to Cafe 458. This was the original destination for a Saturday morning breakfast. It did not disappoint! I had the Cafe Special, which was 2 eggs, meat, toast or a biscuit, and potatoes. Yummy! The thing that is so great about this place is that on Saturday's all of the proceeds go to the Samaritan House, even the tips! So, not only do you get to eat a great breakfast, you're doing something good! The interior decor reminds me of an old southern home. And the chairs are so large and comfy! The waiters and waitresses are all volunteers so, be patient with them. The waitress I had was wonderful!

Cafe 458, part of Samaritan House, serves up a fantastic gourmet brunch every weekend. During the week they serve meals and provide various services to homeless men and women. All proceeds and tips from the weekend brunch go to support the Samaritan House's activities during the week. I've eaten here a few times and always enjoyed it, more recently I spent a weekend waiting tables and it was a lot of fun. The staff are all volunteers.

This place currently has my heart when it comes to places for brunch. I swear, my girlfriend and I need to write a "Great Places to Brunch ITP" book. I'll try to add to all the incredible things already said about Cafe 458. The entire staff is fantastic. And add to that they're volunteers you'll end up amazed that you get more attention and service from them than people who get paid to do this job. They have a new chef and this guy can COOK! He has some amazing new recipes they're trying out and I give him kudos. I got the New Orleans omelette (andouille sausage, peppers...) and found it to be different and extremely good. We had several people check on us, including the sous chef. She came out to make sure our food was to our liking and made sure our drinks were filled. It's very clean and a cute dining area. The only problem is finding a parking space since they share a lot with Java-ol'-o'gy. Finding a parking space is DEFINITELY worth the food and experience. On top of all this, my money went to a good cause. I'm constantly recommending this place to friends and family.

Food was really good and I love the cause. I had the chicken and waffles and my husband had shrimp and grits. The chicken and waffles were nicely done with great flavor. The syrup, which I am sure was donated by Kroger, was like sugar water. The shrimp grits were very tasty and very filling. The ambiance wasn't the best and I think there were too many volunteers today. Overall no major complaints. Will definitely go back. Love the concept!

We visited Cafe 458 for Sunday morning brunch after church. I think TBS had already come in and remodeled one of the dining rooms. Actually, yea, if you look at flickr.com/photos/cafe45… you can see the changes that were made. Good changes! Anyway, the place had only a couple other folks when we got there, but filled up during our meal. Our waiter didn't know the menu very well (since they are volunteers), but was very nice otherwise. It's not a ton of food, but it is good. My wife got the New Orleans breakfast and I got the French toast. Both were flavorful and yummy, but we could have eaten another portion i think! The best thing we got was the Nutella and Banana pancake for our daughter. It's on the kids menu and it is really really good. Nice crispy ness and you can't go wrong with Nutella! We did enjoy it overall since it is supporting a charity.

What a concept--eat good and do good! Dining room is welcoming. Servers are friendly. You can watch your food as it makes its way down the line. Yes, it tastes delicious. No wait to sit down at all this past Sunday at 10:30 AM. Clean and good.

Wouldn't say the food we had was great, but the volunteers definitely try! Definitely worth the experience and glad we went but doubt we will make a trip back.

Cafe 458's tag line is "eating brunch can be your good deed for the day." How great is that?! The all volunteer staff buses and waitstaffs and cooks all in the name of all proceeds from the weekend brunch going to the Samaritan House of Atlanta, which helps the local homeless. Since its all volunteers cooking and waiting on you, its best to make sure you have a bit of time to spend when you come here - but that's really a key ingredient of a lazy weekend brunch, so hopefully you won't mind a bit of waiting. If I was volunteering as a waitress for a day, I know it would be a challenge! They are all very friendly, and obviously dedicated enough to give up a weekend morning all in the name of a great cause. There are more traditional items on the menu like biscuits and gravy, but there are also vegetarian options too. They also have a rotating daily special, like shrimp and grits. In very good company (of Yelpers!), we were seated in the large room to the right. This area is great for large groups - they easily accommodated the party of ten or so that we had. Bottom line - this is an awesome place to support. And its made very easy when all you need to do is have a fabulous brunch, strong coffee and excellent company.

Ditto on Cafe 458! The volunteers that make this all happen are awesome - from the waiters to the cooks to the dish washers. The food is delish and all proceeds go to support programs for the homeless through the Samaritan House. They only serve the public on Saturday and Sundays so go early and often.

This is the place to BE for breakfast in Atlanta on the weekends. Where else can you help others by eating food? It's a volunteer staff, with changing menus, and fantastic fills. Tip extra since it's for a great cause.

Cafe 458, you have my heart. You give all your proceeds and tips to help others, have a wait staff solely of volunteers and still manage to put amazing food on the table. I've introduced more people than I can count to this place - and I'll just keep on doing it. The shrimp and grits is divine - the monster pancake is a favorite - don't miss the french toast - and they even get eggs benedict right! The food is wonderful, the decor is so cute since it's been redone and they make you feel like you're in their home. Get on their mailing list to learn about all the great things the Samaritan House is doing and to get first glimpse of other fundraisers (my favorite is the "New Beginnings" art show done in February). Keep in mind while you dine that service is given primarily by volunteers (the executive chef is hired, but sometimes volunteer chefs from around the city make their way here too) and you're there for a good reason, and it may become one of your favorites too. And if you're really in the spirit, go through your closet before you go and donate your gently used business clothing with the hostess on your way in. samhouse.org

The food was absolutely delicious!!! I went with a group of 8, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I ordered shrimp and grits, and oh my goodness! Yum!! A friend who doesn't eat grits, couldn't stop eating mine. I will definitely return to this restaurant.

Went there for Sunday Brunch. Had the chicken and waffles and stuffed french toast. DEEELICIOUS and CHEAP! Everyone left very satisfied. Friendliest wait staff in Atlanta, all the proceeds go the homeless shelter. Went around noon and there was no wait. Like others have said, I was shocked there wasn't a line around the block for this place, will definitely be visiting again!

i can't give cafe 458 a star rating because i am torn!! here's the deal: i absolutely love the concept. this is the kind of place where you want to bring everyone you know because it really makes you feel all warm & fuzzy inside knowing you are making a difference. for that they get 5 stars. however, the food was HORRIBLE! i tried to eat it but just could not stomach it. i ordered the shrimp & grits and my friend ordered french toast. my grits tasted like boiled paste. the shrimps had no flavor. my friend said the french toast had a metallic taste?! as far as the food is concerned, 0 stars. i felt bad giving back my brunch order but i just could not eat it. but, i'll go back! just because i'm a sap for philanthropy...

Like a bunch of the reviews before mine, I am torn as to how to rate this place. Obviously, the concept is great. The food, on the other hand was not. The biscuits and grits were terrible. The best part of the meal was the CoffeeMate cinnamon creamer. I feel bad saying anything else because the idea around the place is bar none. Hopefully, I just caught the chef on a bad day.

My husband and I actually stumbled upon this place by accident. We wanted to go to Thumbs Up Diner but the brunch wait was really long. Although the food wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, I really admired this concept and was glad to have been able to contribute to their cause.

I was really surprised by the creativity of the food served at this non-profit kitchen which raises money to feed the homeless (fact check me on that, but I am pretty sure that is what it goes for). I had the eggs benedict and it was delicious. My friends plates looked great as well. Everyone who works there is volunteering so they are all very nice so treat them well they are their for charity. And be sure to leave a good tip because of course the volunteers aren't taking them the tips go directly to the foundation.

One of my friends told me about Cafe 458, and when I learned that ithe proceeds go to charity I wasn't expecting much. However, I was pleasantly surprised with a delicious brunch. I've never heard of any other restaurant like it - it truly seems one of a kind. You'll want to give even more money than they ask. Highly recommended.

  • Dee Dee C.

  • Vanessa T.

The syrup, which I am sure was donated by Kroger, was like sugar water. The shrimp grits were very tasty and very filling. The ambiance wasn't the best and I think there were too many volunteers today. Overall no major complaints. Will definitely go back. Love the concept!

Definitely worth the experience and glad we went but doubt we will make a trip back.

place is pretty good. limited selection but good at what they do. the servers are volunteers so you have to be a little tolerant on that front. it is pretty reasonably priced, also.

I second Lindsey R: most of the pleasure in dining here is knowing that your money is all going to help folks in need. The food's good too!

What more could you ask for?

i can't give cafe 458 a star rating because i am torn!! here's the deal: i absolutely love the concept. this is the kind of place where you want to bring everyone you know because it really makes you feel all warm & fuzzy inside knowing you are making a difference. for that they get 5 stars. however, the food was HORRIBLE! i tried to eat it but just could not stomach it. i ordered the shrimp & grits and my friend ordered french toast. my grits tasted like boiled paste. the shrimps had no flavor. my friend said the french toast had a metallic taste?! as far as the food is concerned, 0 stars. i felt bad giving back my brunch order but i just could not eat it. but, i'll go back! just because i'm a sap for philanthropy...
