Absolutely love the food, drinks and bartenders. Unfortunately if you get a table the service is awful. I have been coming here for two years and the service has been consistently terrible. It's really a shame. If you come here, make sure you sit at the bar to order anything. They'll take a good care of you.

Came in got a drink at bar bartender said twice a waitress would come to our table. Waitress went to 4 tables around ours never once came over. We have been here for over an hour watching the game. Terrible. The tv is nice tho!

Benchwarmer's has my FAVORITE wings in Atlanta! Also a surprisingly great house salad when you're craving just your standard iceberg lettuce doused-in-ranch-and-shredded-cheese and topped with croutons kind of salad. I don't know why, but I find it to be REALLY good. The atmosphere is lively and fun, especially when there's a big game on. Quality sports bar, but could use some decor updates!

Friendly staff. Good food. Non smoking atmosphere which makes it better. Diverse crowd. Check it out

Not bad food. Decent for a neighborhood sport bar. Not the best interior. ...nothing fancy. Service was quick and waitress was friendly!

Probably one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had, or better lack there of. I came with a friend to check out the restaurant expecting a good time. Unfortunately, upon arrival, there's not a sign regarding seating so we stood at the hostess area for about 10 minutes just waiting before a couple came in and sat themselves, informing us of the norm. Lastly, and pretty much my entire impression of this restaurant, is the utter and complete lack of service we received after sitting down. The restaurant wasn't even half full and the waitress seemed to blatantly ignore us, even after we had tried to get her attention while she was serving a nearby table; and after about 20 - 30 minutes without service, we left. Safe to say, I will never visit nor would I recommend it unless you are a regular at the restaurant or bar. Newcomers did not seem welcome on the evening we visited.

Recently a friend of mine, her husband and I wanted to go watch the Carolina-Virginia and Tech-Wake basketball games, and she didn't want to go to the sports bar closest to them because she said Carolina never won when we went there. So I suggested Benchwarmers. I told her I used to go there frequently a number of years ago, and it was always a good place to watch a game & have some decent bar food, but that I couldn't vouch for it now. We were not disappointed. We watched the games on one of their huge TVs. I agree with NisMo in liking that it wasn't crowded and loving their chicken wings (sorry, Michael K). We also liked their quesadilla and burgers. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because one of our orders was wrong, but I definitely plan to return. If the place has gone downhill (per Bongo S), I guess time will tell for me.

Great place to see sports games of course... TVs (and good ones) in every direction. Had the steak salad and it was delish. The were not stingy on the blue cheese crumbles either. Hubby had the chicken finger platter and although the crispy coating was that yummy old fashioned cracker coating, it was a bit over fried. But the chicken inside was succulent so still good. Service was a bit slow, but could be because the big crowd had left and the wait staff was wore out. All and all though... a good experience. Waitress comped us, without our even asking, because she had forgottent to enter the chicken finger order... insightful and accommodating to their patrons. They allow smoking through out the bar, but had good ventilation so wasn't bad other than the two cigar smokers at the next table. They were loud and proud...but hey it's a bar, what do you expect.

2 thumbs up for being open till 4am. 2 thumbs up for having a full bar and being able to make 3 Wise Men Shot version 2. 2 thumbs up for bartenders giving us a free round. The place has several TVs but not as many as Hudson Grille. It's sports bar but it seems like the place needs a minor facelift with it's decor but they won't do it because they always get business in the door. It's not bad and it doesn't blow my mind. Come here if you are looking for a late, late night drink.

Oh well. They say all things must end and so it has in regard to my relationship with Benchwarmers. They finally gave in to the masses and banned smoking. Jim, I hope you are enjoying your new house in Mexico. You've lost a long time loyal client.

Went here with some buddies for a Falcons game and overall a good experience. The place is a little dingy but they have a bunch of TV's and a dive bar atmosphere. Our server was crazy busy so we didnt see her much but she was very friendly and the fact that they were understaffed for a MNF game w/ the Falcons playing was not her fault. Overall the food was good, what you would expect from a sports bar.

Went there Friday night. Wasn't busy. The drinks are great. The food was terrible. I ordered the Fish N' chips. They actually brought out a bag of chips! Lays potato chips! Hahaha. The fish was very old. Thank god the drinks are good. It's a good place to watch a game and drink but I recommend you eat before going.

Benchwarmer's has a very relaxed and southern sports bar ambience with a mixed crowd: black/white, straight/gay, "white collar educated" (i.e., Delta/UPS/CDC/VA/ Emory/Stateofficepeople)/"blue collar country." You can meet anyone here from a lesbian landscape architect to a "Larry the Cable Guy"-looking drywall man to a CEO or state department head with a wife and three kids, or recent college grad. Friendly staff and service at both lunchtime and when I have dropped in for a drink or a bite in the late hours. Better food than any bar has a right to serve. Smoking permittied only on designated porch out front. Look for the logo with the "fat guys jumping chest bump."

This place is great! It has a similar atmosphere to Buffalo Wild Wings. My friends and I went here to watch the recent UFC fight, GSP v. Condit. They have plenty of TVs here, pool tables, and a pretty good selection of beers on tap (around 10). I didn't really like their hot wings, though..they were fried a bit too long so it was extra crispy on the outside. Also, I guess their service was... too good? A different waitress stopped by every 2 minutes to ask us if we needed anything, but I think that's because it wasn't really busy in there at the time. We will definitely be coming back to watch big games/fights here. Since it was fight night, it was $5 to get in, so make sure to bring some cash if you go on a fight night!

Benchwarmer's is an after work regular for our office. Since the bar went no smoking, it is much more tolerable. The beer is cold and the food is very good for a sports bar. I like the quesadillas, wings, potato soup, pretzels, and bbq. Haven't tried the burgers.

  • Ashleigh P.

This is a no frills Sports bar. They have updated their menu recently and that's a good thing. Because the old one was tired and bad bar food heavy. It also went non smoking, which is good, cause I quit smoking 3 months ago. I play poker here and it's fine for that. There are two levels. The bottom of which has several pool tables. It's a sports bar. Really just that. And the prices are more than reasonable for what you get.

Benchwarmers is good for what it is; A Sports bar. The buffalo Mac & cheese & buffalo chicken sandwich is good & they have pretty good drink specials as well!

It's a divey sports bar and for what it is, a pretty decent one. Everything from the tube TVs lining the walls to the menu to the odd arcade machine look crusty. The patio actually looks newer and nicer, but it doesn't help that this plaza lot is ugly as all hell. The vibe is predictably lowbrow, but never menacing. There are a small (and increasing) number of newer HDTVs mixed in so it's not bad to watch sports (not as bad as the large number of grimace-inducing old tube TVs would suggest). The huge projection screen in the center of the front hall looks dated but its sheer size and the relative ease in scoring a seat get a nod. It's also easy to park here. Consider how annoyingly difficult it is to find parking and good seat in a nice sports bar, often the thought of that makes me rather come here instead. There is a back hall with pool tables and this place is open until 4am, and gets smokier...and smokier. Has smoking been banned? Last time I went it wasn't, but I am seeing conflicting reports on other reviews. Oh well. This place has been around for a long time and for a divey place runs a consistent operation. There's regulars for the weeknight events and the food all right. I probably end up here a few times a year, it's one of the more relaxing places to watch sports in.

My favorite thing about this sports-bar is that it is never too crowded and they have several TVs placed around the restaurant to enjoy whichever sporting event you prefer. Pros: Wings are delicious! I've been here a few times and the wings have always been great. Service is usually friendly, but sometimes they seem to be short handed on big game days. There is a whole separate billiards room! I always forget it's there, but playing pool during half time is always a good option to have. Cons: The burger--not so great. I think I've had better at fast-food restaurants, sadly. I was looking forward to ordering the nachos this weekend, as they were pretty good the last time I ordered them, but I couldn't even force myself to finish 1/4 of them. The chips were stale and greasy, there was minimal cheese (which may have been a good thing, since it was not very good), and there were maybe 5 pieces of diced tomatoes and that's it. Overall: This place is decent. I think it's declined a bit over the last few months, but the pros may outweigh the cons until I find something better.

This is definitely a neighborhood bar. It's the locals that live in the Briarcliff Rd. / Clairmont area that are "the regulars" at this bar. The crowd is diverse and the "bar food" looks pretty standard and good. I've watched my boyfriend and his friends chow on their hot wings and prefer both the hot wings and the teriyaki wings. The nacho platters look great as well. It's a "smoke friendly" bar so expect to walk out smelling like a used ash tray! The last few visits to this bar has been better so perhaps more people are kicking the habit or the bar has increased their ventilation system. This bar gets quite crowded during UFC fights and they are good about inviting liquor promoters for freebies and flair. The entire staff is friendly and on par. They seem to have your Wii bowling, darts, pool tables and arcades set up for all who are interested. The bar crowd there is generally chill and tolerable ;) If you're looking for a low maintenance bar, packed with plenty of locals, then Benchwarmer's is where you want to hang.

Good, but not great, drink selection. Generally timely service. Great wings and nachos!! It's not located in the best neighborhood in Atlanta, but if you're smart, you'll be fine.

My absolute favorite bar in Atlanta. Great staff. Great regulars and the food is good! Tvs everywhere and great drinks. J, Scott, Callie, Dave are all pros!!!

I swear this place has the best Philly cheese steak sandwich ever. I used to go there to play darts/pool and of course eat my sandwich. It became non-smoking and I am a smoker, so I will not visit it as often now, but I still think it's a cool place to play darts because it never gets super crowded.

Great burgers and open late! Service is awsome. Probably the best food at any bar in the country. Again, service was really good.

I've been three times and feel I can write a balanced review. THOUSANDS of TVs, Better than avg. food, friendly staff but OMG the place is a DUMP ! It smells like an ash-tray. Great place if you're the Marlboro Man

I love the wings here! I'm a wing fan for sure and so far this has been the best place in Atlanta I've had them. I haven't ordered anything else here so have no idea how anything else is other then the beer and liquor. I don't really hang out there being I'm not a sports fan but the patio is alright. I did play that game that you hit a punching bag to check your strength once... uh yeah I guess I put to much body into the punch cause it flipped up way easier then I'm used to and I landed on the floor... I'm used to the heavy bags used in kickboxing. They seem to be down to earth and nice. The sports are not too loud that you can't talk to your friends but just loud enough for the fans watching. So far I've not had any issues with service there.

If you don't smoke already... You'd better start~ this is the smokiest bar ever! :-( so sad because otherwise this is a pretty cool place.

I wanted to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers play today. i have a nasty chest cold and did not want to go to a bar with smoking. I found this place on yelp and its right around the corner from my house. When we arrived i asked the waitress if i would be able to hear my game on any of the tvs. She found me a nice large tv in the downstairs area and had the game put on with sound. This was awesome! The food was really decent as well. I had the french dip and the loaded potato soup. Both were really wonderful. I also had the peanut butter pie for dessert which was very yummy. I really enjoyed my time at Benchwarmer's and will be going back again :)

Dingy, dark, smoke filled bar. Perplexed by all the good reviews. Perhaps I wasn't drunk enough.

Underwhelming service and food. IF I lived close by and it was a convenient place to eat and drink, I would go back. But I don't, so I won't.

I think everyone needs a neighborhood bar to go to and 5 days out of the week Benchwarmers is my option. The food is good but the service is what keeps me coming back. Once you are a regular they remember your preferences and go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of when you are there - I never ask for my unsweet tea anymore -they just bring it!!. I also appreciate the fact that they went smoke-free! Kudos to management for this enlightened decision. It makes lunch much more enjoyable. Finally, with football season it is prime time Benchwarmers season. They have tons of TVs and every game is on at least 3 TVs throughout the bar. They actually map out the locations for you so you can pick the best spot. It is a dive bar but it is a fun dive bar with decent food and great service!

I'm a Texas Tech fan and my friend is a Mizzou fan. In ABC's infinite wisdom they didn't show the game except in the area around Texas and Missouri. Instead they showed Arizona and Stanford (who no one on the east coast cares about at all). But I digress. We thought about going to Taco Mac but instead opted to go to Benchwarmers. My BIL had been here to watch games before and said it was ok. TVs everywhere which was good. A table right in front of the TV showing the Tech/Mizzou game was good too. That was about all that was good. The food was horrible. I don't expect much in the way of bar food, but this was really not good. Not good in a greasy, going to have heartburn for a long time kind of food. blargh. I smelled like an ashtray and had to take a shower as soon as a I got home because I was making myself a little sick, then I had a sore through for 2 days because of the smoke. Normally, I'm not sensitive to it, but the smoke was THICK. Gross.

Bought the deal on half off depot. Location was rather hard to find. It's behind a buncha others stores. When my friend and I finally reached the restuarant there was some really loud rap music playing. It sounded more like a club to me. People where smoking outside, directly in front on the entrance/exit. I did not enjoy that. Inside is a full bar and there are darts on the side. We self seated. After a rather lengthy wait our server finally greeted us. She quickly forgot that I asked for water no lemon and gave me with Lemon. My friend who is a big wings guy order the wings. I ordered the buffalo Mac and cheese. Wrong move. Never order pasta at a sports bar. It tasted so greasy and fat. I hated the buffalo sauce. My friend didn't enjoy the wings either. With the voucher the gratuity was already added. With that we quickly left. We both thought taco Mac would have been cheaper and more tasty.

Part dive bar, part sports bar but fully cool. This used to be my weekend kick-off spot for Friday Happy Hours when I worked/lived in the area. Reasonably priced drinks and decent wings, not to mention, pool tables and video games...win, win and win! I would also try to flex my mental muscle during their Tuesday night trivia, but since that never went very well for me, I won't go into too much detail. Other than to say, once upon a time I was really smart. At least I think I was but alcohol has clearly changed that. My love for this place was locked in when I came here on a Sunday during football season. Perfect place to watch all the action around the NFL. Large screens, good service and tasty food. And beer. Lots and lots of beer. Unfortunately, I ended up moving and working in another part of town, so I hadn't been back there for a few years until this past Sunday. They made a few changes/upgrades, but the overall vibe was still the same. The wings weren't as good as I remembered but the Texas Margarita was and that's what's important. Now that I've been reintroduced to the place, I'll be sure to not wait so long before I go back.

I've been going to Benchwarmer's for years, since 2003, when I moved to Atlanta and joined the Purdue Club of Atlanta. There is usually a raucous contingent of Purdue alumni there for basketball and football games and over the years, the place has grown on me. They are constantly updating their menu and I am pleased to say that the new one is the best ever. They have, in my opinion, the best buffalo chicken sandwich in the city - a huge piece of chicken, excellent sauce, and tasty cajun fries. That and a diet coke seems like an ideal lunch to me. I also love the fact they've been open at 9:30 a.m. for these World Cup matches. Go USA!

I had been here many years ago when this was a Sidelines, but then forgot all about that. Now I've started coming here again thanks to the large poker game that goes on Monday nights. The food is pretty good, there are lots of TVs so you can see all the games, several pool tables, dartboards and video games. A guaranteed good time. Not sure what is up with Jason's review, but the servers I've had were all pretty good and while not over-the-top bubbly they seemed happy enough. I've not had any service issues here.

I went last night for the first time and I loved it. The TVs as others have described are everywhere and they look great. I can't wait to catch a boxing event here. I had the lemon pepper wings and some mozzarella sticks and I enjoyed both. The best part for me is they are located only a mile from my home so I can walk there and just might in the future. The place was packed but I had no problems finding a spot to sit at the bar. I love it that they have pool tables and video games as well. I will return!

What the hell am i doing hanging out at a place called benchwarmers? Easy: They are right by my house, have the most amazing wing deal in the city on Monday nights ($10 for 10 wings and a pitcher of yuengling) and the wings are actually delicious! The blue cheese is kinda pathetic but whatever. The wings are even better if you order the sauce on the side. They fry them hard enough here that the ends get all crunchy and delicious and it might be my first stop back on the meat train after my month long foray into vegetarianism. Also, for some reason I have developed a recent obsession with football and this place has TVs everywhere. Minus 1 star because I have to hang my jacket outside for three days after a visit because of the smoke, but overall an enjoyable place to get wing sauce all over your face. Now back to my bowl of brussel sprouts....

I never thought I would enjoy frequenting a sports bar who's logo is two brahs chest bumping, but this place won me over. It's laid back and not aggressively fratty or anything. Maybe not a destination, but definitely a great neighborhood bar. Plus, cheap beer and great bar food. It's nothing life changing, but they do the standards well. Wings, nachos, various fried things...all well above average. The buffalo chicken sandwich is a favorite. It's also 8 bucks for a pitcher of Yuengling. I don't really get the earlier complaint about the service. Everyone here's friendly, and after about 3 visits, we started getting treated like regulars.

It's amazing how mediocrity draws a crowd. This place always seems to do decent business, despite its best efforts to discourage people from coming back. But the human race is just a tad masochistic, don't you think? Now: Imagine a machine that removes all traces of personality, cheerfulness, or interest from waiters and waitresses. Then imagine this machine in the back of Benchwarmer's. And everyone they hire has to go through the machine before they can start working. Imagine that and voila, you now have a perfect image of the Benchwarmer's waitstaff. I've never encountered such an indifferent and listless reception on such a consistent basis. Aside from the waitresses and their scant enthusiasms, the food is average at best. They removed the Fat Italian from the menu, which was by far their best entree. On the upside, the televisions are plentiful, as are the pool tables in the back. Not a bad place to be if you just want a pitcher and a game of pool. But if you're looking for a pitcher and a smile, you're better off someplace else.

  • Mike S.

This place has always had great wings and the other food is outstanding too and the service is very above average. But until this summer, I could not stand to stay in there long because it was a giant ash tray. We always ordered takeout to avoid the smoke bomb. Then a miracle occurred, and they finally banned smoking inside and cleaned the place up a bit. Now Benchwarmer's is the kind of place I can hang out with my friends and take my wife. There are literally dozens of TVs, several pool tables, great wait staff, and plenty of beers. Not an upscale place by any means, but a nice divy bar and a good place to watch the game with friends. Highly recommend the wings and appetizers. If you are a smoker, there is now a patio with TVs where you can enjoy a pack or two. Hooray Benchwarmers!

At the end of the day, a sports bar simply needs to be a sports bar. Although there are plenty of places that serve "cuisine" and happen to have a lot of TV's, those are not sports bars. Nor can one call a sports bar that which is a ChiliTueFriApplehans. I mean, those are generic. No -- a good sports bar is simple, unpretentious, filled with TVs, containing large selection of beers and other drinks, and is simply a place to enjoy a cold one and watch a game, and perhaps talk to those around you. THIS IS SUCH A PLACE. The food is nothing spectacular, but, come on, do you come to a place like this for the "must have" fried chicken sandwich or burger? NO. You come because the game you want to watch is on the one of the what seem like 60 TVs, you come because the staff (bartenders and servers alike) don't try to be part of a show, you come because its affordable, you come because its FUN. And so, what do you get here. You get exactly the food you expect, no better no worse. You get a great selection of beer. You get bartenders who know how to mix and pour a drink. You get A LOT of TVs. You can show up with 20 friends; you can show up with no friends. But if you show up and have a beer, you'll enjoy yourself.

I'm not normally the kind of girl who frequents sports bars...and last night is a prefect example why. I'm not going to say that this place was horrible, because it wasn't. If anything, it was the crowd that sunk the ship for me (and also the fact that they didn't' t have the Thrashers game televised). Being a California girl, I'm still not used to people smoking in bars. I don't totally mind it when I'm in the bar, I just hate the fact that when I leave, I smell like the cigarettes that Five-Tooth Betsy was smoking all night. For the record, FT Betsy was about 50 years old, wearing an acid-washed mini skirt, beige knee socks, and blood red nail polish. Classic. Apparently you folks here in Georgia like your weekly trivia nights because of the two bars that we went to, both were expecting me to know things that I couldn't possibly know...or really care to know. At Bench Warmers, I think that it must have been a themed night because it was all groups of lesbians and back country folk. It was bizarre. Very. Very. Bizarre. Good place to watch games since they have a million TVs...just don't take your eyes off them because you really don't want to see who is sitting next to you. Is it just me or aren't young, good looking men supposed to frequent sports bars?? Just wondering.
