We loved the hush puppies! Hush puppies are a new food for us being from Cali and they were dee-lish!!! Service was friendly and despite telling me the they didn't have sparkling wine, she was happy to bring it out once I pointed it out on the drink menu ;) The oysters were from Apalachilcola and were super yummy...especially with the sparkling wine! Only complaint was that they oysters were so nice that it would have been nice to have a mignonette with vs. what seems to be a southern fav crackers and cocktail sauce :( Anyhow it was a nice little tourist trap restaurant and pretty good food with a nice water view!

Had the garlic crusted grouper topped with blue crab and hazelnut cream sauce, based on a previous rating. I was not disappointed. Very good service. Excellent hush puppies with strawberry butter. Would be a favorite if I were a local.

We had a large group (wedding rehearsal dinner). Everything wen't surprisingly fast. The food was delicious, and I didn't have to pay a thing! I'm going back to have a little sample of the menu.

Best hush puppies with strawberry butter! Oh my goodness!! The lunch special today was yummy! The seafood in a cream sauce with bowtie pasta!

So the happy hour deserves all the credit, because our server down in the "Bilge" was very happy to meet our needs. The service upstairs was also good, but the cook staff lost all their points with me tonight. Servers: Four Star Cooking: Two Stars Atmosphere: Three and a half Stars. The broiled seafood platter was good, but the shrimp that were done in wine were well over cooked and looked rather puny. Also not sure the scallops were all that fresh, but they tasted alright. The fried calamari was also good, with a hint of hot sauce. Salad was a basic green, but not much else to it. Friends with us got the special (Salmon) which I didn't really hear any raves about, so guessing it was "ok" - but not anything overly good. The view was also extremely nice with the moon rising over the waterfront out back on the porch. But I just can't say it was a great time. The atmosphere was a bit loud, even for our raucous group - and there was a definite lack of drinks served upstairs - not sure why, but I guess they thought we had enough downstairs. (?). Bottom Line: If you're out for a night on a porch with friends, a beer and some seafood, you could do a lot worse. But the chef could really work on his reference marks for done-ness and flavorings.

The atmosphere here is really laid back. You must eat out on the deck if the weather is nice. They have a great view of the bayou. The food is pretty good too. I had the steak and Alaskan snow crab legs. I wish I had just gotten more crab legs; they were better than the steak but the steak was ok. Our server was a bit distracted but nice. I would recommend this place though!

I am from the Niceville area and have relocated to Wake Forest NC. I must say every time I come home I make sure this place is on my list. The grilled mahi sandwich is awesome along with the hush puppies and the strawberry butter. This is a can't miss place.

We wanted one last round of seafood before leaving the Florida coast. Niceville was on our route out of town, making The Boathouse Landing a great choice for lunch. Perhaps an inside table would have worked better than the patio, considering how warm and breeze-less it was today. We got some wind and clouds eventually, plus the ambiance out on the waterfront is hard to pass up. Our waitress was very friendly and took good care of us. She also kept a watchful eye on our drinks, which helped combat the heat. Things started off with some complimentary hushpuppies. They were outstanding and clearly homemade. The crisp batter and flaky center were perfect. I also loved the strawberry butter that came with them, which added an interesting sweetness. We also snagged an order of Crab and Shrimp Dip for an appetizer. Besides the obvious, this dish comes with cream cheese and spinach, plus tortilla chips for dipping. It was creamy, garlicky, and very tasty. The romano cheese sprinkled on top added a nice flavor. I don't know if the chips were homemade or not, but they seemed like it. It was an excellent appetizer. For my entree, I picked their Seafood Platter: a combination of fried shrimp, grouper, crabcake, and bay scallops served with cocktail and tartar. It also comes with a Caribbean slaw and fries. I didn't end up eating the slaw (mostly just because I got too full), but the fries were pretty decent. They had a good blend of spices and were very crisp. The batter they use here is great, and everything came out fresh and delicious. I loved the fried crabcake, which seemed to melt in my mouth. The scallops were cooked just right too. My grouper was amazing and flaky, with just enough seasoning to elevate things without detracting from the natural flavors. The gulf shrimp were probably my favorite though, and I almost wish I had just ordered a big plate of them. This was a great place to stop for lunch, and I hope we get the chance to come back!

Had been wanting to go here for a year now. We usually go to Dockside, but wanted a change. Sorry Dockside, you've lost me! The inside is so homey and comfortable! Great outdoor deck on the water, or you can eat in the dining room or downstairs bar area. I had the Boom Boom Shrimp Salad, along with the free hush puppies they brought (in place of bread). Boyfriend had the steak with mashed potatoes. I really want to work my way down the various shrimp salads. Will definitely return!!

I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. The food was fresh, service was good, and the view is beautiful. The only thing keeping me from giving a higher review is that there are ten other restaurants in the area with that exact same description. Fried seafood, basic brunch menu, ok beer/wine selection, and good service. I'm not dying to go back but I wouldn't turn down a return invite.

The food is refreshingly good, especially the mahi. The atmosphere is very nice (this place has a theme style) and there is quite a bit of outdoor seating overlooking the bay. The moody lighting is well complemented by table candles after sunset. Even we got here really late, the staff here are still patient and nice. Highly recommended!

Atmosphere and ambiance gave this place 3 stars easy. I came here for dinner and sat outside overlooking the beautiful docks with a magnificent lightning storm way off in the distance. I ordered the lobster bisque, which IMO was a little too heavy on the bisque and too light on the lobster. My entree was the stuffed shrimp. It was terrible. The only reason I ate it was because I paid $20 for it. For some reason they decide to DRENCH the meal in over spiced hollandaise sauce. it looked like a delicious creation, a crab-cake like ball of seafood stuffed inside a large butterflied shrimp. Unfortunately I couldn't taste the $20 worth of seafood because of the strong overwhelming hollandaise sauce. I'm very disappointed in this recipe, go with something else if u visit.

Once upon a very, very long time ago, I grew up in Niceville, FL. And even though I have lived in the food mecca that is NYC for the past 10 years (and ATL for 4 years before that), I still look forward to an amazing meal at the Boathouse Landing when I come down to visit my family. I have loved their coconut chicken salad and hush puppies with strawberry butter for well over 15 years. They are consistently great across all levels. Super friendly, helpful staff. Excellent and healthy food. And, the BEAUTIFUL and peaceful outdoor deck on the bay. Absolutely my favorite spot in town (including compared to restaurants in Destin).

This place is great! Stopped for lunch - complimentary hush puppies with strawberry butter (OMG amazing) - I ordered soup and salad. They make a home orange/honey mustard dressing, it was delicious. The lobster bisque had no lobster chunks in it and tasted quite ...not right. Asked for the special instead, Manhattan chowder- much better! I would def come back. Not to mention the views from the porch are beautiful.

We found this jewel through Yelp and it did not disappoint! We shared the delicious seafood platter and some adult beverages of choice on the outside deck. Our rec: don't forget the hush puppies!

I have to give the The Boathouse Landing stars. This place has everything you could ask for. The food is great, the service is good, and you can't beat the atmosphere on a cool fall day. I've been here twice and I haven't been disappointed. The first time I only ordered the calamari (appetizer) it was pretty good. The second time was recent and my girlfriend and I went all out. For our appetizer we ordered the spinach and shrimp dip. If you like your spinach dip from your regular food chains then, you will love the spinach and shrimp dip. We were very close to ordering another. You'll probably have lots of chips left due to the fact that you don't get much but it is worth every bite. As a result of reading a previous review, I ordered the shrimp and grits (grilled) not the best I've ever had but it was close. A must try if you like fish and grits. Oh and I almost forgot ... the hush puppies with the strawberry butter ... Wow. And I'm not even a hush puppy fan. The service is good. They are very attentive which is hard to find in my opinion. We had the brunch menu which didn't have the shrimp and grits on it. They had no problem with making it for me. Maybe I'm not use to it but that impressed me. I recommend sitting outside if the weather permits. It's a perfect place for a date night.

Sides are really crappy... Main courses are ok. Food is overpriced and service is touch and go.. I give it one star for the hush puppies and decor.

Went here on a recommendation of a co-worker after getting into Fort Walton late. I had some concerns as places like this generally fry every thing, and don't have much of a selection. This place was anything but that. The service was good, attentive and helpful without feeling like they are eating with you. They do have a healthy selection of fried choices, but also baked, pasta, dinner salads, and soups. They highlight in the menu their "specialties". Good portion of food for the price, overall a good experience, I recommend it for anyone that wants seafood in the area.

  • David K.

Good food, service, atmosphere, view, and value. I had the special, shrimp/scallop penne pasta in a creamy tomato basil sauce. Nice feta cheese crumbles on top. Definitely not light, but a balanced flavor profile - the lightness of the scallops and shrimp really benefited from the rich cheesiness. My wife had the grilled seafood platter. Truly excellent, and plenty of great shrimp/scallops/fish. Only downside to her meal was the overseasoned and overcooked veggies with overseasoned and undercooked rice pilaf.

What a great find thanks to Yelp. I'm here for business and looking for a decent place to eat. The food was outstanding. I started with the lobster shrimp bisque then the NY strip Oscar style. Both were top notch. I really liked the hush puppies too. I'll definitely be back soon.

Arrived in Niceville at dinner time and wanted to start our beach vacation with a good seafood meal. This was the wrong restaurant for that. The service was very friendly and attentive, but the food was mediocre and over-priced. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Seated quickly despite having 3 adults and 2 children. Hush puppies were really good. If available you should try the Pasta Special...sautéed shrimp with five pepper cream sauce...July 23rd special...it was really good!

My husband and I stopped here for lunch on our way to the beach. We had fried calamari for our appetizer, the seafood platter and applewood bacon burger for entrees. All of the food was good! We sat out outside and the view was very pretty! Very nice, relaxing lunch.

I went here twice on a Sunday. I went for morning brunch and had the chicken and waffles. They were great. The waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and the chicken had some great spices on it. I Sat outside on the deck and the view was beautiful. The service was great and the server was very attentive. I went back later for dinner and Sat at the bar downstairs. I had the shrimp poboy which was pretty standard but good. The bartender kept wondering off though to watch the live music on the deck. She would leave me for long times without a drink. Other than that I would recommend this place and I will be going back.

My husband and I went to The Boathouse Landing for his birthday. We love the homemade taco chips- they seriously should be packaged and sold. They are the best I've ever had. The hush puppies are also outrageously good, and I'm not even a hush puppy fan. Great fish and selection. One of the top restaurants in Niceville, Valparaiso Florida for a couple or small group. NOTE: We did go to a larger function with about 30 people and the food wasn't quite as good as you would expect for a regular dinner. On that occasion, the fish was dry. It could have been the crowd.

Food was good, but the wait staff was slow to respond to the table. Also I was not told about the earlybird specials when the waitress introduced herself to my table. Seems like they cater more to the local crowd.

So my friend posts a pic of her shrimp and grits from this place, it looks pretty good, I say "I'll have to try that". Months go by, then we have a lunch date, I have the shrimp and grits......YOU WILL NOT FIND IT BETTER ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. This is a top out. The tamales were.....forgettable. I shalleth returneth.

Should haven known better than 8:00 visit on a Monday night, skeleton crew, probably teenagers in the kitchen but on the way home from airport and it was convenient. Weather perfect and sat on the deck with a party of six. Five tables occupied in the restaurant so kitchen should have been prepared, received drinks and tuna dip appetizer in normal time and then that was it. The tuna dip was fine. Drank our drinks with it and asked for refills but never saw waitress again until after the entrees came 45 minutes later. Drinks were refilled from standing pitchers with no ice, ice had watered down the tea and it was room temperature. My broiled platter was served cold with some attempt at a cream sauce on everything that was also cold. 45 count shrimp, smothered in the sauce that were cold and chewy as were the scallops which were served in drawn congealing cold butter and chewed like double bubble chewing gum. Wife had shrimp and scallops and sent it back for the chicken. Vegetable medley? was undercooked and hard and they must have run out of spices. imagine hard squash and undercooked onions and whatever else made it up. Others had the Mahi and it was fine, one son had the NY strip and it was fine. As i sit here at 3:45 in the morning with my stomach roiling from whatever had set too long under lights in the kitchen, realize that we would never return nor recommend the place.

One star for the awesome free hush puppies with strawberry cream spread. Another star for the patio overlooking the water. One more star for the awesome Boom Boom shrimp salad. No star for the bland steak and shrimp on burgundy sauce. Our server was cool too.

The dining experience inside is just OK, but outside on the desk is amazing! The view of the bayou at sunset/moonrise sets the stage for a very relaxing meal. I have had the Boathouse Grouper which is good but the Yellowfin Tuna special I had during and earlier visit was outstanding. I have not had a bad meal here yet. The service has been OK to excellent.

I came here during lunch time for a co-worker's going away luncheon. It is a nice place with a great view of the water. The service was excellent and our waitress was super thoughtful. Our drinks were being constantly refilled and our food got out in a decent amount of time considering the size of our group. The free hush puppies were pretty good but unfortunately they were cold. I ordered the pasta of the day which was shell pasta with shrimp, scallops and alfredo sauce. My food was ok tasting. I got 6 shrimps and like 2 or 3 very tiny scallops. I would have been fine with my meal but it was lukewarm, so I did not enjoy it. It came with a side of sweet bread that was too sweet and did not complement the meal. Garlic bread or just regular bread would have been a better option. Some of my co workers did not enjoy their meals either. May not be coming back unless our office uses this place for another function, which is likely since it is easy to accommodate large groups here.

It was our last night in Seaside, almost 35 miles away, and my traveling buddy and high school friend wanted to take the 50 minute trip to Valparaiso. Normally, I wouldn't be so inclined to drive so far for dinner, but after looking at the online menu and his personal recommendation, we loaded up before sunset and headed to this great little place on the bayou. My first impression was to sit outside, because of the view of the water and the fishing vessels. Tim, our waiter, was all over us and started us off with the complimentary hush puppies and strawberry butter. I have decided that hush puppies is to seafood what chips and salsa are to mexican food. Can't eat just one...or even two...but I digress. The menu is full of great options but our crew wanted seafood. The kids got the shrimp alfredo $13.95 and coconut shrimp while the dads got the broiled seafood platter (fish, shrimp, stuffed crab, etc., $16.95 and the Ultimate Shrimp Platter. Sure we were hungry, but everyone enjoyed their meal without exception. Service was fantastic and the food came out quick. Without a doubt, this was not only worth the drive but a return trip is certainly in order.

Have been here several times in last couple months. Love this place.Always sit outside under the deck at the outside bar. They have live music on weekends and it always interactive and great local musicians. The view Izmir awesome on the bayou. usually not to hot usually a little breeze. Now the food, it is ok. typical seafood fare, nothing outstanding. I do like the coconut shrimp p salad, shrimp were plentiful and fresh greens and they have some awesome strawberry butter. they also have trivia which is always fun. will go back again.

Went in here for the first time tonight to have dinner. We sat outside and like several others have already said, the view was fantastic. Even had a little crab running around looking for some scraps, which the kids gladly provided. They start you out with complimentary Hush Puppies, which come with a Strawberry Butter. The strawberry butter is good. Never had it with hush puppies before. We started out with the Calamari. Not too chewy, and the breading was light, which I liked. I had the Garlic Crusted Grouper for dinner, and it was really good. I got a really big piece of fish and the garlic flavor was great. The Hazelnut Cream Sauce that they put on it has a good flavor, but ultimately it is really rich and it got to be a little too much. It came with a vegetable medley that was made from squash, zucchini, and red onion that was delicious. And a rice dish that had a really good flavor. The prices are actually decent for the food, when you compare it to some of the other places around and also consider that the portions are quite big. My entree was around $18 and I got a really big piece of fish. The drinks on the other hand are pricey. We ordered one of the drink specials, they were over $6, not very big, and didn't pack much of a punch. Will skip the mixed drinks next time for sure. The service was a little lacking, which is why I went with 3 stars. Our waitress was slow, unattentive, and forgetful.

  • Annette M.

Awesome view from the deck. The place is clean and the staff is good, although our waiter wasn't the best. It seemed, she wasn't able to handle all the tables and the place wasn't full, barely came to our table and wasn't very attentive. We had to ask for the hushpuppies which are complementary with every meal. BTW- the hushpuppies were really good; I really like the hint of sweetness. I ordered a poor boy sandwich, it was okay, the shrimp were really good and really fresh, but the bread wasn't that fresh (a key ingredient in a high quality sandwich). The homemade potato chips were great; although a little bit of extra seasoning wouldn't hurt. The homemade pecan pie a la mode was delicious. Overall, the place is good, the ambience is nice, a great view, the food is good and fresh, although it can change a couple of things (more seasoning and better quality bread for the sandwiches) to improve the flavor.

Had the early-bird fried shrimp and seafood platter. Good food and service. The hush puppies with strawberry butter were good. However, the soda was not carbonated enough and the cole slaw....no bueno. Would recommend to friends.

Real good service very nice people & the view is great also right on the water. I'm picky with my fried food and this was very good. I most definitely will return. This place is really really good.

  • Kathy S.

Our 1st time there. The bloody Mary was watery & lacked flavor. Food is presented well, but its pre-made. My chicken piccata was a breaded piece of chicken I could buy at Publix. The sauce was strange because someone decided to dump sun dried tomatoes on top of pile. The tomatoes were so leathery, I had to pick them off of the pile. Who puts chewy tomatoes on chicken piccata? The waitress seemed over worked & did not engaged us at all. Verged on grouchy. She did not bring refills on ice tea and she forgot to bring the complimentary fritters. Wouldn't go back...

Generally very good. Food is always top notch. View is incredible. Love the grouper ponchartrain. Love the seared ahi tuna. Service is for the most part good. Couple of the servers are not particularly personable and a little rude but overall I give it four stars - if the servers were all consistent it would be a five.

The back deck has an awesome view. The food is quite good and the pricing is what I would expect to pay. Their specials of the day keep things interesting and the sauces that accompany most dishes are winners.

Boathouse Landing is located on the banks of a bayou called Boggy Bayou. The view, consequently, is quite lovely, especially if you sit on one of the two deck levels. Seafood is their strong point, and it's really delicious. I've had various types of fish and shrimp here both grilled and fried, and while the fried versions are good, the grilled versions really show off the fresh quality of the fish. The hushpuppies are also good, and the strawberry cream-cheese butter that accompanies them makes them even better. The default sides that come with dishes are usually rice pilaf and fresh steamed vegetables, not the standard fries and over-salted veggies you get at lots of other seafood places around this part of Florida. Boathouse Landing is also pretty busy around lunchtime, as it is only about 5 minutes from Eglin AFB, making it a popular lunch destination for many of the people that work on base. The small bar downstairs is pretty neat, too. Some of the older locals like to hang out here and play trivia games. Even though the place is frequented by many, Boathouse Landing is a pretty laid-back place, thanks to the staff, the decks and lots of windows (if you eat inside) and the beautiful sunny (but shaded) location on the water. There's no loud music, either. I like coming here occasionally as an alternative to the rambunctious, noisy, packed-in-like-sardines, cookie-cutter feeding troughs most tourists like to go to in Destin.

I've only had lunch there once as I just discovered it, but it was amazing. They tend to go for spicy (great for me). I had the lunch pasta special which was a pepper crusted salmon on a spinach pasta. I wolfed it down and with a drink only $12.

My husband and I just celebrated our 6th anniversary with dinner at the Boathouse. We chose this place based on suggestions from friends, as well as reviews and the fact that we were bringing our 4 year old son along. The service was unbelievably friendly and warm. The manager sat us and checked in on us several times through out the meal. Our server was amazing, quick, efficient, friendly and full of suggestions. He even interacted with our son (in a totally NON creepy way), allowing him to order for himself, rather than ignoring him. The kiddo had the corn dogs, and judging by how fast he ate them, they were good. He's not a big french fry eater, but hubby and I snagged a few. Nothing to write home about, but they were good. My husband had the steak and stuffed shrimp (which he chose to have fried, but was too full to eat and brought them home). The steak was a good cut, but because it was cooked on a kebab stick, the two end pieces were medium-well, and only the center piece was medium-rare (how my husband ordered it). This wasn't a big deal to him, he still enjoyed his steak. The mashed potatoes tasted homemade! I had the garlic crusted grouper. The fish was cooked perfectly, lightly crusted an delicious. The crab and hazlenut cream sauce was good, but I wasn't able to finish it due to the large portion and the richness of the sauce. The rice side dish has some amazing lemon-herb flavor, not too salty and my husband and I couldn't get over how delicious the mixed veggies were! We also had the crab cakes as an appetizer. They were moist, not overly breaded and delicious! The tiramisu for dessert was a hit with all three of us, because we were able to get our son to eat from the end of the slice where the lady fingers were hardly soaked in espresso. Yes, for those tiramisu aficionados, the espresso was a-symmetrical and the mascarpone was thick and yummy! Over all I'd give the tiramisu an A-. We sat outside along the railing, with a view of the water. We were able to call and make a reservation for our great table, but once we got there (at 6:00 on a Sunday) we realized that a reservation was not really necessary. Be forewarned, when the heat and humidity are high, you will sweat through dinner. There are no fans and being near the water, the gnats were irritating (not that the restaurant could help that) but when the breeze picked up the bugs went away. Our son was entertained by the view, "searching for sea creatures" by looking over the railing and a few quick walks down to the dock. Over all it was a GREAT experience and we will definitely go back... even if for just the complimentary hush puppies!

Excellent atmosphere and service. We enjoyed both the early bird special as well as the mahi mahi which we had blackened. Outside seating was excellent with more than adequate shade (we visited around 1630). Did not get a chance to check out the downstairs bar but it looked nice. Will definitely be back.

I love the Boathouse Landing. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The early bird specials (4:30 - 6pm) are a real bargain. The Garlic Crusted Grouper is one of my favorites there. It's pan-sauteed and topped with blue crab meat and a hazelnut cream sauce (OMG Yummy!). The majority of the seating enjoys nice water views. Dining in the upstairs dining area and porch are nice, but you can also dine downstairs in the "Bilge Pub". It's more of a bar but also has a patio with waterfront seating. The Bilge Pub has a great happy hour and NTN Trivia.

The Boathouse Restaurant best feature is it's location and water view. Most people love their signature hushpuppies, but they're too sweet in my opinion, especially when eaten with the the strawberry butter served with them. While I've had a few decent meals there in the 8 years I've lived here, the food has been bad the past year or so. Most notable: I tried the prime rib and it was spoiled! It tasted like I was eating something that was scraped up off of the highway. Our waiter was super and took the dish back and offered a different dish for free, which I declined because I wasn't hungry after tasting the prime rib. I'd recommend staying with the seafood. However, I tried the Lobster & Crab Bisque recently and was given a cup of lukewarm, thickened "milk" with a couple of TINY shreds of something that may have resembled crab. The menu states Maine Lobster, but I'd bet my left foot that there's not a bit of lobster in it. This was a major disappointment and rip-off. The only reason I go to Boathouse these days (and that's very rare) is when I get together with some co-workers and we want to sit outside on the water for the wonderful view. If you have to go, I'd recommend going for lunch instead of dinner. Sorry Boathouse, I'd love to say you're good, but you definitely have room for improvement
