Five stars for the ladies waiting tables. They were all kinds of awesome. Every one of them. Too bad that won't save this place. Other than those ladies, grandmotherly types, there isn't a single thing about this place that makes it worthwhile. Despite having the requisite laminate tables and seats and nondescript wall decor marking a traditional diner, Kathy's doesn't follow along with the homestyle plain, but tasty, fare. The menu is impressive, there's a huge selection of breakfast and lunch items for every taste preference. Choosing is a difficult option. Ultimately, I ordered the breakfast tortilla wrap. The tortilla was dried out and kept breaking apart. I'm okay with that if whatever is in the tortilla is good enough to make the crispiness a good counterbalance. That didn't happen here. The eggs were okay, even though they tasted reconstituted, but the melted cheese was the processed kind with its own half-life. The home fried potatoes were by far, the worst. The potato chunks were a good size but were browned in oil that tasted like it was left over from the previous week. The potatoes tasted like oil. It wasn't until I was nearly finished that I noticed the carpeted floor. While I see the logic in having an indoor/outdoor carpet, I just kept thinking about how long it had been since the floor was cleaned and how would you know? Lastly, Kathy's is now a cash-only spot. That's okay with me because any small business needs to be mindful of the credit card processing fees and I totally get why some go cash-only. Here, I question the impact it had, if any, on the quality. It's all too bad, because those women waiting tables were great.
