When I ordered a medium fillet it came well done... Brown through most of it. When I sent it back, they left my date's food to get cold on the table. Finally, when the manager came he said it was to be expected that when you ask for a medium steak it will come out closer to medium rare or close to medium well. WTF! When I order medium well it should be medium well and medium rare then it should be medium rare. BUT medium as described on the menu should be a warm pink center; Marie Livingston's steak kills the Tallahassee Shula steak for half the price.

Ended up eating here last minute after our initial plans fell through. We were staying in the hotel where Shula's is located so it was very convenient! It was packed & we were lucky to get 1 of 2 tables at the very small bar area. The staff was excellent & the food was very good. I had the fish of the day & my husband had a steak. Everything was excellent! Pricey, but good!

I had the opportunity to have dinner with a number of business associates last week at this restaurant. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. I had the filet with a bearnaise sauce with a loaded baked potato. Delicious. My peers seemed to enjoy their meals as well.

Had a nice experience at the bar - great service. The grilled chicken salad was tasty and the chicken sandwiches were recommended by others in our group. Friendly staff throughout.

We enjoyed a typically good steak house meal but the loaded baked potato was exceptionally delicious!! Another over the top surprise was dessert. We ordered a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream and it was presented in an almond crisp bowl with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. The bowl was really yummy and worked well with the ice cream

Dined while staying at the attached hotel and I must say it was Excellent! I ordered the pecan crusted salmon it came with mashed potatoes and broccoli and some greens. That plate was clean when I was done, Everything was delicious! Will be back to go for the steak next time.

We were just there for my son's FSU graduation. We were there before 6 since that was all that was available, so it was pretty quiet, but did fill up as the night went on. We had a great meal and wonderful service! Yes, it was pricey, but definitely felt worth it to us, considering the occasion. The steak was delicious, the wine was great, and the servers were so very polite and accommodating. One of us had the tuna, and thought that was also delicious! I would definitely make a second trip.

Good menu, service was very good, prompt. Atmosphere was nice, TV was on but not a sports bar type of vibe. We would eat here again.

Nothing like the one in Miami ... Small portions for the prize we were hungry after the meal..

Excellent service. Food was nothing short of fantastic, a little on the pricey side, but the quality was definitely top notch

I ate there with five picky diners and we all loved our meals. Very good steak, terrific service, and they actually called us at home the next day to make sure we had a good time. How many restaurants have you been to where they cared about you after you left?

  • Justin L.

The atmosphere is not as fancy as I expected. I was all dressed up and there were people with jeans at the next table, and there was a TV showing sports. It was turned down, but I don't want a TV in my fancy restaurant. I guess that's as good as you get in Tallahassee. Anyway, the food was amazing! In my opinion, it was some of the best food I've had in Tallahassee. Come here on Saturday when they have the good chefs, then go up to the eighth floor and sit around on the balcony.

Don't waste your money on subpar food and attitude. Ordered a salad with seared tuna and sweet potato fries. Took over an hour for take out to my hotel room and when I got to the room 2 mins later the fries were cold and soggy. Salad was ok, but not worth $18. Better recommendation is to walk to one of the nearby restaurants. Recommend Bird's Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack or Masa.

Simply amazing. Just moved here and found the food to be terrific. Slightly pricey but great for a date night. Plus you can go up on the roof to the level 8 bar while you wait for your food. Great views of the city.

This is a friendly hotel restaurant. Angel will greet you will a smile and give great recommendations from the bar. The wine list is acceptable but could use some diversity. The steak was NOT cooked well it did not have any type of char. It looked like it was boiled. My scallops were the tiniest things I have ever seen. Maybe they need to ramp up the supplier. We expected more from the name Shula.

Parties of eight are sometimes difficult to please. Our group of birthday friends was well satisfied. My entrée of bone in steak green beans and sautéed mushrooms was perfect. I recommend Shula's at Hotel Duval.

Prime rib was cold, server was not very attentive. I should have listen to my coworker when they said that it was over rated. I will not return.

Best steak in town that I had. And they decorated my dessert for me for my birthday which was nice of them. Great service, great food, they decorated my dessert, and valet parking. I can't complain.

I will start off by saying that I didn't get a steak, which apparently is why this place has been given so many rave reviews. I got the Caesar salad, the pecan-crusted salmon, and creme brûlée dessert. Caesar salad was wilted and drenched in dressing. (See my pic) Don't order it. Salmon was tasty, but a bit too salty. Creme brûlée was good, but nothing special. Overall, the food was average, but it was incredibly overpriced. So overpriced that I most likely won't return despite our great service. I'll also add that my dining partner got a steak and did not seem impressed either.

Angel who was working the at the bar was excellent and the service was impeccable! Delicious Filet cooked perfect! If you are in Tally at the Hotel Duval be sure to visit!

My Muslim boyfriend and I waited at the bar for our table, when it was ready, we told the hostess we were going to stay at the bar and she replied with, "good." I feel like that was so inappropriate. This place tries to be something it is not with inexperienced, insincere hostesses. Food was mediocre for the price but our bartender was always on point. Will not go back.

I came here with my family for parents weekend. We really enjoyed our experience here. The ambiance was very soothing and I appreciated the open floor plan. The service was decent, but the food was impeccable! Complimentary valet was also a plus in an area with little parking. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • Don N.

Had a reservation for 5 pm and even though the place was not at all busy, we still felt we were being rushed throughout our service. Food was good not great, but not bad either. In a restaurant such as Shula's you expect your order to come out correct the 1st time. i.e. correct side item and presented correctly without the roll call. As others mentioned, the side items were warm, but not piping hot as should be expected. All in all a good meal, and will go back.

Pretty good. We were just passing through the city and just needed a good meal. Atmosphere was good- modern yet comfortable. The lights were glaring in our eyes when we sat down, but the hostess solved that quickly. I don;t recall what we ate, but I remember that it was good and the final price seemed reasonable especially with it being inside a hotel.

I was here for work and staying at the hotel. I decided to go to the bar and see what the atmosphere was like. I sat down and was greeted by Angel, bartender. Angel actually made my experience. I ordered a glass of wine and then asked for his favorites on the menu. He suggested the beef tips (appetizer) and I am so glad he did. The beef tips are basically a beef tenderloin sliced, grilled and served with two amazing sauces - barbeque and bernaise. I also ordered a house salad. It was the perfect amount of food for a lady looking to have a low carb meal. The salad was fresh and typical. The beef tips were amazing - absolutely perfectly cooked.

Best service I've had in a long time. I have been here 1 night (staying at the hotel) and the servers know my drink and name. Great food, great service, and great scene.

Shula's has an already solid reputation as a top-shelf dining experience in TLH (and across the other links in this famed chain). This review, therefore, isolates the lunch experience. Wife and I came admittedly dressed unlike the other tables (we were at Gold's for an hour and a half...) so we weren't looking the part of "Titans of industry" that some of the other tables were affecting. Rather, we were just coming for lunch - as though it were Jim & Milt's (see review). Wife ordered a Capresse salad and I, the Asian salad w seared tuna. Service is good. Maitre d' sat us in a both on the north wall. Waiter was prompt and courteous. At the entrance, the coordinator was cheerful and polite. Smooth F&B operation throughout. Music was just right and there was no unnecessary service staff hovering. An overall very pleasant lunch experience. We'll return (sans gym clothes!)

A wonderful GRADUATION TREAT. So nothing was going to bring this meal down. We drove up from Miami and the family picked this restaurant and we were all very happy. The Hotel was beautiful and the restaurant was lovely. Everyone in Shula's was so nice and happy and walked around with a smile. The food was delicious from start to finish. This special occasion was very special. At the end of dinner the TV was on and they were ready to announce the Heisman Trophy Winner. Having an FSU Grad with us we all wanted Jameis Winston to win and he did. That was the best ending to a great evening. It really did not matter that we had a Gator and a Hurricane with us, we were all very happy for they young man.

I went here for a Christmas party. I had the filet and asparagus. It was not the best. The service was awesome. I think it is a little over priced.

Overall it was a nice experience. For Tallahassee, it's one of the best places, however it doesn't compete with the steak houses in larger cities like NYC and Chicago. Everything was good, except the pecan pie, which was excellent. I got the filet minion, smashed potatoes, asparagus. Service was great. We also went to 101 and I ordered similar food and thought it was just about as good for less money.

We dined here after my nephew's Graduation. Great service, a nice lunch menu. This has to be one of the better restaurants in Tallahassee. The W had Shula's 347 Grill Salad and I had a Chicken Sandwich. Both were very good. The service was excellent. There is valet parking in front.

We were in Tallahassee for 1 night on business and had a hard time finding a restaurant without a drive through window. Lot's of franchises, Chili's, burgers, Olive Garden etc. Logic told us that a state capital with it's cigar chomping lobbyists and pols would have a high end steak house to work their deals in. Shula's may aspire to this, but doesn't deliver the meat. Nice room, good service, the sides were actually better than some of the steak houses I've been to. The cowboy rib eye was tough, gristly and not very tasty. My associate sent it back and it was replaced with a filet quickly and cheerfully. I stuck with it, but probably should not have. I've gotten better cuts of meat at a grocery store. Oddly, they brag about "wet aging", and the meat looks like it's cooked in a hot oven rather than a grill, no char on the outside. No caramelization. Odd. Better meat and a hotter grill would raise the rating here.

Impressed. I usually will not eat in a hotel, but time was limited so I gave it a go. Chad, the waiter was very professional and helpful. We had chicken sate and blackened scallops for apps. Chicken was okay, but the scallops were perfect. Really good mango salsa under the scallops. Dinner: we had the 'cowboy' steak (ribeye with bone) and two 5oz filets with demi glace. Now, the demi glace was gravy. I'm fairly picky about my demi glace, and it was okay. (For the record they had a different name other than demi glace but the description was demi glace). Wine list was excellent, nice selections. Manager stopped by which is always nice. Cost wasn't bad, around $200. Sounds a little high but we had a few drinks, a bottle of good wine and left a good tip. (we'll be back soon).

They make a decent steak. The wait staff was excellent. But as it's a chain, everything else comes pre-packed and frozen. And it's not like the staff can do anything about that. I had the pecan crusted salmon. It was kind of meh. The glazed asparagus was so coated in sweet goo you couldn't even taste it. My spouse had this "lightly breaded" chicken; it was your typical breaded chicken freezer patty served with mooshy tomatoes. He mentioned it to the server, and management, who said they couldn't alter the recipe because it was "made to spec" gave him a sample of the crab cakes. Also pre-frozen, and rather tasteless. I had creme brûlée for dessert. Something was off about it, aside from just the texture. My stomach disagreed with it entirely. It's not terrible terrible, but if you're going to be spending this kind of money on dinner, you expect a bit better than Chili's tier food.

I Love steak houses. Had never been to Shula's. Overall, very good. Service was awesome! Staff was very good at their jobs! Apps: Crab cakes (Awesome - all crab!) . BBQ shrimp wrapped with bacon( AWESOME!!), fried calamari, and Lobster bisque both also good. For dinner we had an 8 oz Fillet Mignon, 24 Oz Porterhouse and Kansas city Strip. Fillet was the best. Other steaks were good, but my only complaint was they needed more a Char on the outside. That would have made them even better and given them a 5 starts. All steak come with 2 sides, which was great. Mushrooms, asparagus and Mash were the best. Dessert, Bourbon Pecan pie and Carrot cake, both awesome! I would highly recommend!

Not only great tasting food, but also incredibly friendly staff. Our waitress was very friendly and informative when we had questions about the menu. Often she would make small polite jokes with our table and was overall very charming. The assistant manager recognized us from previously being our waiter showing us he truly cared about providing us with good service, no wonder he was promoted! The food was delicious, we order appetizers of blackened scallops and sweet chili shrimp. I loved both, not even being on for spices. However our table seemed to enjoy the shrimp the best. Next we all ordered steaks, a filet, a couple cowboys, and two spinalis. The spinalis is the ribeye cap and is not on the menu, but I highly recommend it. As for sides, the sweet potato fries are perfect and the asparagus was good, but nothing to rave about. Overall a great experience! *Also be sure to go to floor 8 in the hotel for a nice view and some drinks if wanted. Also we stopped at some floors to smell the unique smell of each floor!

When in Shula's say hello to Angel, and get the Angel Kiss for dessert. Be sure to bring your walle or friend how has a wallet tehe. Shula's NOT cheap but well worth the price. We had the steak speacial with these lushious mushrooms underneath ( I LOVE mushrooms and ate my date's mushrooms too) to die for. Martini's yes, Service from manager and Angel yes..hostesses not so much. See, the thing about Shula's that I didn't know is MAKE reservations. We got there about 830. No tables, we were glad to sit at the Bar, our "hostess" said "someone" would clean it off. Well, that someone ended up being me. As no one ver did. Poor Angel he was BUSY! The hostesses however, were just standing around looking pretty (and they were). Final answer, make reservations have Angel make your drinks and enjoy a lovley evening. And if you're lucky stay at the hotel for a romantic evening.

What's with all the four star reviews fellow yelpers?! Places like this are the reason five stars even exist. I've never seen so many reviews claiming perfect food, perfect service and awarding only three or four stars. The only explanation I can come up with is that people have increased standards for an establishment as soon as it's been deemed "fine dining." But c'mon people. This is yelp, not the Michelin Guide. And if you really do know where to get a better steak in Tallahasse, why would you not say where? Trying to keep it all to yourself? In any case, in my experience with Shula's 347, the perfect food and perfect service I have received leave me no choice but to give five stars. In Tallahassee, this is "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" Ever since my first experience being served by Angel the bartender, I will always sit at the bar if it's just me and my girlfriend or request to have him serve me at a table if he is available. Even sitting at the bar, the level of service is not compromised in the slightest. In fact, Angel has provided some of the best service of anywhere that I have dined, not to mention a damn good martini. As for the quality of the food, I have only ever ordered the NY Strip but it's always been cooked to perfection and with two sides included easily justifies the $36 price tag, especially once you take into account the atmosphere and service. The steaks are actually the same as those served at Shula's original steakhouses. Shula's 347 is supposedly just one step down from the Steakhouse but having been to the original Shula's as well as 347, for the $20 extra you will pay for the same steak at Shula's, I can assure you, you're not missing out on much if you choose to dine at 347. If you're a fine dining purist then, yes, you may prefer a less casual fine dining spot but to me perfect food and service will make up for a lack of white linens and bow ties any day. And in Tallahassee, I'm not sure white linens and bow ties are really necessary to be at the top of the fine dining class anyway. P.S. After you've eaten steak till you can't take any more solids, the Angel Kiss martini makes a perfect liquid dessert.

Tenderloin tips, yum. Seared crust and soft inside - so good! My only complaint was that part of the order was medium well, not medium as requested. The tomato and mozzarella chopped salad, only ok. The only real downer were the tomatoes, which had no real flavor. The mozzarella and balsamic syrup were very nice, but a high end restaurant should be able to get tomatoes that taste garden fresh instead of bland.

This restaurant is for real and so I won't even use my Tallahassee handicap rating scale to review it (It would be a 5 Star rating using that scale). Shula's holds its own compared to the big boys in big towns (Pacific Dining Car, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, etc.), and didn't disappoint us even though we've come to expect less in this city. Actually, the contrary is true - we were pleasantly surprised by the high level of service and the wonderful food. The steak Caesar salad I ordered was very tasty and the sirloin tips were almost as tender as filet mignon (and rare just as ordered). My girlfriend ordered the seared tuna salad, which we've found to be risky in this area, but it was fantastic! The tuna was definitely sushi grade and didn't have the suspicious fishy smell of stuff that's been sitting around a day or two too long. Decor is dark but cosmopolitan with tasteful (?) football themed accents. (Think romantic, clubby, and owned by a rich football guy.) Definitely recommended.

What a special evening it was to be! I knew it would be expensive, but we were DINING. So why only two stars? When I am laying down that amount of cash for an evening, I expect the service to be exemplary and my vegetables hot. We started the evening upstairs at the level 8 lounge so we could enjoy a drink, overlooking the city. There was only one waitress and she was working so hard, hubby went to the bar to get my $12 mojito, a long island ice tea, and drinks for another couple. Four drinks-$50. But we were dining! The waitress seemed grateful that we "served ourselves" bit I wanted to be pampered- waited on- served! Downstairs in Shula's, the atmosphere was not what I expected but it was nice even though the chairs were a bit uncomfortable. The table for 4 was cozy. We ordered appitizers - crab cake for me, lettuce wedge with bleu cheese crumbles for hubby and some type of dip (I've forgotten the type). The crab cake was mostly lump crab meat and was a winner. The sauce was tasty with a little spice. Hubby's lettuce wedge was overly salty and not all of it from the cheese. When I go to Ruth's Chris steakhouse, I dine. Shula's felt rushed. I ordered a special that was supposed to be a sliced delmonico, which is my favorite cut. It was supposed to be sliced and served with a sauce (again- can't remember the sauce type) It came with a heaping helping of garlic mashed that were lukewarm at best. I was looking forward to the grilled asparagus and it looked wonderful - slim stems, charmarks from the grill. But it was not even warm! Our waiter (Roy) seemed to ignore us most of the night. I had to wait to order my bottle of wine- then he had to go find it. For desert - key lime pie for me. It was very good buy great key lime pie is at Jonah's in Thomasville for less than half the price. I just don't get it. I'm wondering if I should go back again-but since this was a Tuesday night date and not at a very "busy" time, my service should have been exceptional and my food extraordinary.

Atmosphere, service, and food are ALL five-star. High-end (but not stuffy) and very modern. If you are missing the "big city" vibe here in Tallahassee, this is a great place to go. Our party of six left extremely and unanimously happy with everything: several appetizers, cowboy steak, mushroom ravioli, seared tuna, and the most AMAZING burgers you will ever eat.

My first time in Tallahassee where we got a high recommendation to try Shula's at the Hotel Du Val. We had drinks upstairs at the Level 8 Rooftop bar to start with views looking west over Tallahassee. Frankly, the hotel Du Val is a "long-in-the-tooth wannabe version of the W Hotel and this theme followed through to the bar and restaurant as well. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. Pretty much the only reason for the three stars....otherwise it would have been a 2 1/2. We began with a lovely lump meat crab cake followed by the anchovie-free Caesar Salad....so it wasn't really a Caesar. My husband had a pecan crusted salmon that was a little dry and not crusted but rather topped with sliced pecans. When we pointed out this to the waiter, he said that the chef calls this "crusted". What can you say to that? I had a small filet mignon and King Crab leg meal with a side of spinach. The filet was not tender and the crab legs were not tasty....lots of nots here I know..... it was just so NOT! Cute little town but not much for dining. Finding a restaurant open on Sunday nights leaves you with pizza joints and chain restaurants.

Went there on my 1st visit to Tally. Very friendly wait staff and bartenders. One bartender in particular was exceptionally friendly and quite good looking - can't recall her name. Because I did not want to spend for the steak, I got a burger instead. Perfectly medium, juicy, tasty. Got the mashed potatoes and not the fries also a good choice. Later went upstairs to the Rooftop Hotel Duval. Pretentious. Very. Baretnders are extremely cute and sexy but the place is Ok I guess if you like that kind of fake- upscale.

Very, very good. I can't think of one thing I didn't like about my experience at Shula's. The service is very good, and the food was excellent. All of the steaks at our table were cooked perfectly. Others in our party who ordered poultry were very pleased with their dishes as well. The atmosphere is good-- it has a nice, new-age, clean feel. I wore a jacket, but some folks were dressed more casually. It's not a cheap place for a meal, but the prices are certainly justified by the high quality of the food and service.

    (4)
  • Mary B.

Eh. The issue I had was I went in expecting it to be as good as the regular Shula's. It's not. While the food is delicious, the steaks are not anything to write home about, and definitely not the best in Tallahassee. The atmosphere is cool, albeit VERY loud. Our waiters have been really nice, although they were not that knowledgable about steaks, where they come from, if they were grass-fed or corn-fed (the manager didn't even know, I had to look it up on my phone and tell them...). All in all a cool place to go because the decor is nice and modern, but I've had much better meals other places in town.

Great food and wonderful service. I had the double cut pork chops. Awesome juicy and tender. My wife had the fish special (amberjack). She loved it. Desert was a chocolate pecan pie- to die for!

I was excited to try Shula's 347 but was surprisingly not impressed with the food. I heard great things about the restaurant since they opened in Tallahassee but as a true steak lover, I was disappointed with the quality of my meat. My husband and I both tried the Cowboy Steak and it was not tender and there was absolutely no flavor. Great steaks don't require a lot of spices or any seasoning but Shula's 347 needed to add a little bit of salt and pepper because the overall taste of the steak was just awful. Initially, I was going to order the filet but I love bone-in ribeye's and the server advised this was the best steak to get on the menu. The sides to accompany the steaks were bland and lacking in flavor as well. My husband kept comparing 347 to Shula's in Miami and he could not believe the difference in quality. We know 347 is meant to be slightly different than the original Shula's but you expect quality from any Shula restaurant. We did enjoy the service, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our visit. It's nice to see a better dining option in Tallahassee but we will not return.

  • Joseph D.

Overall, 347 is ok. I have been here 4-5 times, but it is really more out of convenience than anything else. I usually am traveling for work solo, so prefer to sit at the bar. Which brings me to my biggest complaint: who ever heard of a bar with 6 seats, and two 2-tops! It really is nothing more than a service bar with a couple of high tops. The steaks are decent, but not memorable. The food is good, but the menu is generally disappointing in its variety. I understand that it is a steakhouse, which generally demands a simpler menu, but it would be nice to see the chef use some creativity in the kitchen. If I don't want a steak, the menu reminds me of most room service menus at a major chain hotel. The service, however, has always been great, at least at the bar. Angel and Michele, although busy throughout the night, always manage to stay in front of anyone's needs. Summary: decent food, fairly priced, good atmosphere (although not necessarily at the bar as it's too small), great service.
