Gill's Tavern is out, and Kasey's Home Cooking is in. Kacey's slogan -- "real home cooking at a real fair price." Eat till you pop restaurants are not usually our choice, but Mrs. Fat Guy knows one of the employees so she felt obligated to at least try the place. So we did. The parking lot was full of pickup trucks, service vans, and city vehicles at 11:30. I wasn't sure if that was a good sign or not. Despite the crowd, we scored a table immediately adjacent to the food bars, so I could observe the goings on. I have to say the food is replenished frequently -- fresh pans seemed to be empty before they had time to feel the heat from the steam table! Pans left too long and food desperately crying out to be removed is a particular peeve of mine at buffets. No problem here! This is Southern cooking (I'll debate the 'home' part) and lots of it. It's a same price all the time affair -- 7 bucks including salad , dessert, entrees, and tea. High class dining it ain't. But you can eat a variety of items (they change daily and seasonally). I tried to sample everything on the Monday menu. All of it was pretty decent, the chicken livers divine. The salad bar is decent -- not just iceberg lettuce and 3 dressing choices. But be careful -- save room for the desserts. Freindly and attentive staff is a real plus. Would I recommend it? Yes, but remember what it is.

I am rating Kacey's a 4 compared to other southern buffets. This is not fine dining but simple good food. I've been there a Few times and was always pleased- for what it is. Mother in law likes it and so do co workers. The fried chicken is excellent and the ma and cheese taste creamy and homemade. Only thing missing with it are crumbs on the top. The rutabeggas are not overly sweet and nicely done. I love turnip greens and they had them but failed to provide a wonderful cornbread to go with. They had cornbread just not wonderful cornbread. The fried okra was out of a frozen package but was decent. The mashed potatoes were great and fresh. The salad bar was great with crisp lettuce and all sorts of sides. The fruit bar looked fresh as well, The desserts were homemade and the cakes were single layer so you could sample more than one without wasting too much. Each weekday, the menu changes. One night they had sourkraut with sausages. They had a spicy oriental chicken that I really liked. The place is clean and the staff friendly. One bit of advice though. Don't go on Sunday! They are so busy there is a wait and it is loud and very harried. I will probably go again because too many people in my family love the food and the value. Oh, water, coffee and tea is included with the meal but not cokes.

I've been twice and the only positive is the price, and you get free sweet tea with your meal. Choose any other buffet for a better selection and quality (as far as buffets go).

I went to Kacey's on a weeknight, about 7:30pm, it was not crowded at all. The food was good, not great, but the food was replenished and looked fresh, not all dried out like at some places. Overall, was a good meal and very inexpensive ($6.51/person) which includes coffee or tea.

I get great vibes from the restaurant. I leave full. The food is delicious and the customer service is great. I recommend to come and visit. And the price is low and drinks are great. Great for family too

Solid four stars for delivering what they claim to make - southern food. Most items on the buffet were good, but a few improvement could be made if they stayed away from canned veggies and other canned items. Fresh veggies are more labor intensive, yes, but in the long run, a value to both the restaurant and the customer. Buffet was stocked well, and was kept stocked throughout our meal. Service was super friendly and prompt. Why the four stars? Well, the canned veggies are one, and the second is for charging an adult meal price to kids 8 and older. Really? It isn't that the prices are bad, or that the meal was unaffordable, but I am seeing this trend in a few establishments around Tallahassee where they are counting 8 year olds as adults. I just don't understand the logic there. We will be back. It isn't the genre of food or restaurant type (buffet) that we frequent, but certainly hits the spot when there is a craving!

When you're in town visiting the grandparents, of course you're going to want their recommendations on restaurants :) Come on- they live there and who else knows better? Boy, I'm glad they directed us here. We actually helped to close down the place, which was pretty amusing, so hopefully the staff there doesn't hate us too much *gulp*. The location is pretty charming; looks like a little German cottage (I was told it used to be a German restaurant or something along those lines). My only qualm would be some of the staff (kinda short with us) and the general cleanliness of the place. Otherwise, loved it. Don't expect anything fancy :) Its a home-cooked, Southern-style, comfort meals. Think fried chicken, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, etc. I personally *love* this every now and then, but if that's not your thing, move along. Also, its buffet so eat to your heart's desire ;) We promptly passed out afterward, lol.

Our go to for American comfort food. Definitely worth the price! Love the catfish, black eyed peas, Lima beans and cabbage. The fried chicken is good when hot. The greens are hit and miss. Plenty of selection and they keep it refreshed pretty well. One of few places that we like to return to. Not as crowded or expensive as Golden Corral.

The food here is ok, the meats all taste good and fresh, but everything else tastes like canned food. The rolls tasted like they had been sitting out for 3 days and the macaroni tasted like it had been cooked a week ago and had been warmed up everyday since. Its $7.50 per person plus $1.50 for drinks. If you're considering eating here, go to New Times by Lake Ella on North Monroe, the food there is much better.

This is a traditional southern buffet. Don't go and expect to get a steak. Instead go for the: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, awesome hot rolls, sweet corn bread, broccoli casserole, fried fish, chicken livers, an enormous salad bar, and fabulous desserts. It is an affordable tasty meal, that frankly, every once in a while I have a desire for.

AMAZING! This is home-style cooking at its very best! There is something for everyone, carnivore or vegetarian. There is fish, chicken, beef, loads of vegetables, tons of fruit, a salad bar, and wonderful desserts of every kind. There is even a sign that says you can ask for ice cream, if you so choose. The decor is low-keyed, casual, a nice blend of radio music coming from the speakers, at a comfortable, relaxing volume. This is a good place for the family, and priced at only $7.50 (plus drink), during both lunch and dinner! The moment I stepped through the door, there was a wonderfully pleasant aroma; clean, fresh, and mouth-watering. My first impression of the buffet was color; bright yellows, oranges, and greens, just as nature intended. Despite having arrived mid-afternoon (I was there just before 3:00 p.m.), the food trays were fresh and full, and there was an ever-present attendant keeping things clean, stirred, and filled. I was so overwhelmed by the number of choices, I decided to try just a tablespoon of everything; green beans with new potatoes, corn off the cob, cheese grits, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, butter beans, hush puppies, fried chicken, baked fish, baked chicken leg, and corn bread, topped off with a glass of sweet ice tea! What really impressed me about the food was how perfectly seasoned everything was; leaving no bad after-tastes on the palate. I found no bland under-salting or briny over-salting; no heavy garlic tastes on the fish, and no over-doses of pepper on the chicken or fish. It was perfectly balanced! In addition, everything was cooked to perfect peak, no over-cooking into mush! I was truly impressed! I hesitantly tried their cheese grits, and I really must say, they were delicious! Too often, these types of dishes tend to be heavy with fake cheese, and the grits can be sandy and undercooked. Not these! Again, perfectly balanced! The sweet potatoes were also exceptionally flavored, just brown sugar and cinnamon, according to my server, but it was such a light and delicate flavor, it really brought out the wonderful sweet taste of the sweet potato itself. The hush puppies were just the way I like them, light and fluffy, (not burdened down by heavy garlic), with just the slightest crisp on the outside. The fish was equally battered lightly, (not grease-filled), and fluffy white on the inside. Very satisfying! The chicken was lightly crispy, (I had a thigh), a perfect gray meat inside! No pink under-cooking here, or grease-filled skin, this was Sunday-dinner-at-grandma's fine! My server was perfectly attentive, and chatted with those who desired it, but went about her business as soon as a customer walked in. She was friendly, professional, and well-informed on the food preparation. She kept an eye on my ice tea glass and made sure I had as much as I wanted. She was very conscientious about keeping the dining area clean, keeping food off the floor as diners vacated their tables. So a special thank-you to 'Mary', for helping to make my dining experience a very pleasant one! Over-all, they are doing everything right! The place had a small lull when I first arrived, but was already filling up again when I left 45 minutes later. I regret to say that I was so filled with all my lunch choices, I had no room for all the yummy desserts they were offering! But I will most definitely be back!

I haven't been to all the country buffets in town but I predict this one will be my favorite for two reasons: 1. Good food, much of it actually cooked from scratch (collards, potatoes) 2. Very reasonable price - $7.50 per person with tax included AND "free" sweet tea. The food is your typical greasy Southern cuisine but they keep a good watch over their buffet and during my visit the dining room was busy and the food kept fresh even though it was an off-time - 3:30pm. The sweet tea is also very good, not oppressively sweet. Selections during my visit include fried chicken (very good), collards (great), macaroni (not cheesy enough), and mashed potatoes (with skin!). Oh, and cheese grits. Any restaurant that has cheese grits at dinner is ok by me!

This is the best country-style buffet in Tallahassee. The fried chicken has always been hot and fresh, the mashed potatoes are homemade, and they have a pretty decent variety of meats and veggies given the relatively small size of the actual buffet. The desserts are pretty good, too. And hey, free sweat tea.

WOW I LOVE KACEY'S HOME COOKING BUFFET. Best gravy in town, the fried chicken is super delish, greens on point, mashed potatoes fingerlickin good, damn they even got great ice cream! No buffet in town can compare. I hope to meet Kacey one day and thank him for this great experience! I had more fun at this place than any party I've been to all year. 5 STARS!

The price is right, the place is clean and bright, the employees are friendly, and the selection is good, with a bit more fruit than other similar establishments. That being said, the entrees and veggies are so so, but the cobbler and banana pudding better than the other southern buffets in the area. And dinner is merely a formality to get out of the way before dessert anyway...
