Really good falafel and grape leaves! And the young chicken sandwich was to die for! Fast and not too expensive. First time there but definitely coming back soon! Thank you

Love to order the falafel mini plate at this place! Actually, the grilled chicken and gyro are really good too! The falafels are cooked and seasoned perfectly! The side items that you put on the 'mini plate' is abundant! This place definitely does not skimp! You get hummus, mango sauce, spicy sauce, eggplant, cucumber salad, etc. on the plate with your protein of choice! They can jam pack all of this into a pita and it's a bit messier, but absolutely delish! They take your order, serve your plate and after you eat, you pay. They have a VIP rewards program at this site to earn free dessert or meal. I've also earned a dessert by checking in on Yelp. Baklava is pretty darn good!

Shawarma is pretty simple food. Seasoned meat roasting on a very hot, vertical rotating spit. When you think about it, just about every culture has a dish like it. Greeks have gyros, Brazillians have the gaucho style BBQ, and Mexicans have Al Pastor etc. And when food becomes simple, making it great is all about the nuances of the preparation, which take years to master. I discovered shawarma on the streets and in the bus stations of Israel, and instantly fell in love with it. In Israel, you can smell it from blocks away, and the aroma literally lures you toward it. Once there, you're easily entranced by the mountain of meat slowly rotating past the brightly glowing heat elements of the spit. As it turns the aroma intensifies, and you can hear the meat sizzling and popping as it develops an incredibly well caramelized crust (the best past of shawarma!) just before being shaved into a pita, a laffa, or a plate. Sunrise Pita is the place I visit when I want to recreate that memory here in the US. It's run by Israelis and has a lot of Israeli clientele, so you know you're in the right place! I always order the shawarma plate, which comes with Turkish salad, Israeli salad, an amazing grilled eggplant salad, hummus, pita, and of course, shawarma! They offer a small and a large size of this dish, small is ideal for individual and the large includes enough meat to feed 3 people. As if that wasn't good enough, to go along with the shawarma, they give you unlimited access to an epic selection of pickled veggies! I love the purple pickles turnips and the honey garlic carrots. The carrots are like crack and I can eat them by the boatload! The shop is small and the service moves fast, just like in Israel, but don't be intimidated. This place is all about making the guest happy, and giving you a little taste of Israel.

I came here for lunch with one of my friends and I had a great meal! As soon as we walked in we were greeted immediately and told that we will be helped in one second. We told the guy that it was our first time and he proceeded to give us suggestions and even let us try the chicken/lamb shawarma. It was delicious! So I decided to go with the shawarma pita and my friend got the chicken pita. The guy also suggested we get the falafel appetizer to start with. We then had a seat while he began preparing the sandwiches. He quickly delivered our falafel right to our table as well as a plate with all the options of things to add to our sandwich. It included hummus, tahini, eggplant and onion and tomato sauce. I am sure they dont uaually do that but he was being particularly nice to us. When the sandwiches were finished cooking he called us over to add the sauces and sides. I added the hummus, tahini, eggplant, salad, and a little hot pepper. It ended up tasting delicious! However, the sandwich couldnt be kept together while I ate. Its ok though even with a fork and knife it was delicious. I also got a mango soda from their fridge and it was a great drink to help the food go down, loved it! Ill be back for more soon! I need to try their baklava!

Oh my goodness. I couldn't have expected how great this place would be. Their service is strange - not bad, but strange. I can't knock it for being different though. You come in, order everything, and then sit down, like Chipotle kind of, but minus the paying part. They had us pay afterwards. Which was fine, just different. And confusing. We were being boring and just got shawarma and hummus. We didn't realize that you got the onions, etc. on your own until we watched others, but we didn't really care, our meat and hummus was delicious enough on our own and we were devouring that. The hummus was perfect - the perfect texture, the perfect flavor, and served just right. They give you a ton too, we weren't able to finish it all, which meant my husband took it home and ate it with pretzels. Shawarma was amazing - tasty, perfectly seasoned, and delicious all wrapped up in the pita with hummus or on it's own. Worth making your way out here for the best shawarma I've ever had. A great place - and we'll be back for that hummus! YUM!

This is an awesome place for vegetarians !! The Hummus was super fresh... Falafel were crunchy and tasty. The salad bar is complimentary. The Baklawah was awesome. Very reasonable price. Loved it all the way. My only suggestion... They should bring in some kind of hot sauce.

Finally decided to stop by this well known place I kept hearing about. I went on a weekday around 3ish and the place was still pretty happening. I opted for a pita wrap with this turkey & lamb meat and toppings of choice. It was a little over $9 and I thought it was kinda pricey for a wrap But.....then I went home and took my first bite and realized I'll be going back real soon and it's totally worth the price. Note to self "get more of that white sauce on top next time". Sooooo gooooood!!! Place was full of Israelis so I guess that's a good sign as it means the food is authentically good! Highly recommend!

If God made Mediterranean food this is how it would taste like. If that analogy doesn't work for you then let's try this - If Heaven had a party this is what they would serve as food. To use the word 'Delicious' to describe their food would be an understatement. If you remotely like Mediterranean food then their food will change your mind and make you fall in love with it. If that's not enough, the guys who make the food are one of the kindest people that i've come across in Florida. Definitely try the Babaganoush!!

Came here for lunch today thanks to Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed! The guys behind the counter immediately welcomed us and were very personable. It's a clean friendly place with great food! I got the shawarma pita with sweet potato fries and my Stepdad and Mom got the shawarma baguette (big portion, too - they had to take half home) and a side of falafel. Everyone enjoyed their meal tremendously. Had a bit of baklava for dessert and it was also very delicious. We will definitely return!

This place is wonderful. I love the food. Met my kids for lunch as they were already fans. I work down the road and didn't even know it existed. Thank goodness I do now and they deliver! I enjoyed the mini Shwarma plate. It's huge. Nothing mini about it. The owner gave us some samples which were yummy. The falafel and fries are awesome. The place is spotless and the staff is super friendly and helpful.

I used to enjoy going to Sunrise Pita but my last visit was the last straw. I should not have to wait over several minutes for you to acknowledge my presence and I also should not have to be given an attitude when you take my order, ( the man with the thin eyebrows ), Watch you pause while you're making my sandwich and touch your phone with no gloves on your hands and then touch my pita right afterwards, and then have to wait several more minutes while you decide to do everything else but ringing me up so I can take my food and leave. In the past 10 years, I've overlooked the lack of customer care because I enjoyed the food, but I will not spend my hard earned money on shitty customer service ever again. Not when there's so much more competition now. On top of that, the kebab lafa that was so sloppily prepared wound up becoming overly soggy and falling apart halfway through and I wound up picking the meat and veggies out and throwing away the bread. No thank you.

I went there for the first time the other day with a friend, for lunch. I ordered falafel, she hummus plate with shawarma. I'm sure it's called something else. The guys were very friendly and professional. The food was great! Deeeelicious. I have been to Egypt several times and have had the best (in my opinion of course)...so in comparing to that, I thought it was great. Everything was fresh...and those carrots...the pickled one from the buffet, holy crap man! Yum yum. Only thing is, we ordered the sweet potato fries and did not get them. I'm pretty sure they would have taken care of it. We didn't say anything, because once we saw the food we figured it was enough and we will try them next time.

Since my first visit to Sunrise Pita I have lived in four different cities (Miami, Atlanta, DC and NYC) and I must say that it is still the best Israeli restaurant I've ever been to. Let's be honest. What's not to love? Great food. Great ambience. Great staff. Just freakin' wonderful! The owner is so super sweet and and the food is mouthwateringly delicious! I highly recommend the following: 1) The shawarma. Ask to have it sautéed with peppers and onions! 2) The kebabs. If they have eggs that day, ask them to put a fried one on top of your kebabs. OMG! 3) The hummus. Holy hummus. 4) The schug. It's so spicy and so damn flavorful. And make sure you get lots of those fluffy pita pockets to sop up all the wonderful juices!

I've been going to this place for years and I've never had a bad meal. I tend to always order a falafel plate but I've had gyro and shwarma chicken, too, and they are all very good. The staff are the friendliest people around and make you feel very comfortable when you place your order and remind you to help yourself to the salad bar. I would bet that if you wanted to know what something tasted like, they would give you a sample to help make up your mind. They now also have beer in the cooler so that's a nice plus and anyone interested in television programming from Israel will enjoy having that available there, too.

Love, love love! Delicious fresh, made to order, always busy, always delicious! A must to try for lunch or pick something up for dinner! Friendly servers, great owners! Great chopped salads, hummus, tahini, shawarma chicken, pita, falafel .........all excellent! Plus they deliver!

Best pitas ever! Everything is so fresh, kosher and tasty. I have had the chicken and falafel pitas and both never disappoint. The chicken has a great charred taste from the grill and the falafel balls are crispy on the outside and perfectly textured on the inside. Besides the delicious protein, they stuff the pitas with freshly made sauces that are spicy, sweet, hummus and yogurt sauce. Additionally, they add a nice variety of fermented veggies and fresh salads. While waiting for your food to be ready, you also have access to a free salad bar with a wide range of fermented and pickled veggies. Everything is super fresh. The is friendly and you can tell how much love they put into your food!

The fallafel here is so amazing! I cannot bring myself to try anything else! You have to get it with everything! I do not live close but I will go because it's definitely a treat for me! Place is very clean, friendly and the food is always fresh! Cannot wait to try the Shwarma!

Solid place for typical falafel/shawarma/traditional Israeli cuisine. Stepping in here brings me back to the haunts in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem! Lots of Hebrew being spoken and a family atmosphere full of what appear to be "regulars". They have a great salad bar area with traditional Israeli salads, pickles and veggies that are great to snack in while waiting for your food or to accompany your sandwich once it's ready. Their menu is full of falafel, shawarma, and other delights that can come in a pita or as a platter. For an authentic taste of Israel I highly recommend trying Sunrise pita!

I finally decided to try out the "best pita in the USA". Prior to this, it was my opinion that pita plus deserved the title. The set up is the same, as is the great customer service and the freshness of ingredients. The key difference that makes this pita the best is that once carved, the shawarma is then sautéed in a frying pan for a little extra deliciousness. The meat almost becomes "pulled" and is just exquisite. In addition, sunrise pita offers nespresso. Not just espresso, but the best... And the option for decaf. I will make the drive from Miami any day of the week for this deliciousness. Best pita.

I have pretty high standards when it comes to food from the Middle East, and Sunrise Pita is the best option I've found locally. This is an Israeli-style shawarma and falafel joint. The service here is good and efficient, perhaps not as friendly as some places, but not unfriendly either. They seem to be willing to put up with the nice lady who orders the shawarma baguette, but with everything on the side and the baguette hollowed out "because it's too much bread" and the half order of fries. They are "glatt kosher", which is a particularly strict form of kosher for all the Haredi who might want to eat here--personally I don't care. They close for all the Jewish holidays. - falafel. Not as crisp as I like, but good flavor. 4/5. - turkey shawarma. Make sure you ask for salt and pepper. 3/5. - pickled vegetables. Take what you want. 3/5

Best falafel I've had in forever. Very fast paced then again it was lunch hour. I was in and out in 5 minutes. I didn't really have time understand what everything was so I got a pita falafel with everything and spicy. I think it will be great.

This is one of our go-to office lunch spots. Authentic as it gets! Shawarma is great, the kabob meat is grilled fresh, and the salad bar is a can't miss part of the meal - especially the carrots. Always order your pita "everything spicy" and you won't be disappointed. The Pita crew is great and very friendly. As you walk in it seems like there are a lot of regulars... That's because there are! You'll be one too.

They advertise the best pita in the USA. I don't know if that's true, but I would say it's the best pita I've ever had. I like the falafel pita, as I don't eat meat, and they load it up with a ton of flavorful ingredients. It's simply fantastic. The guys working there are all super professional and nice.... and efficient. No complaints at all, I go back regularly.

  • Roberto B.

The falafel at this restaurant is just about the very best available. All the salad fixings are super fresh as is the laffa/pita. You will be getting five fresh falafel balls and your choice of about a dozen salads. Best of all to my mind is the atmosphere. Coming here is like getting a long, refreshing sip of one of my favorite and most fascinating countries in the world...Israel! One our last outing, a large boisterous Israeli family showed up and made my day. Enjoy!

  • Erica K.

Hands down - the best! I always go out of my way to come here. Nothing compares. I've been to Israel and this place is the closest to that same taste. Brings me right back. The food is consistently amazing and the staff is super friendly.

  • Sean P.

Hands down the best pita place in Florida, maybe the country. I've been coming here for years, there are a few Israeli places here in south Florida but this is the best. Their tahina is the most flavorful around, everything is made fresh in house and has the taste of homemade in every bite. If you're avoiding carbs don't let pita in the name deter you, do what I do and get a mini plate. The shawarma is amazing, as well as the pargiot (young chicken). I haven't had anything I didn't like from here. Enjoy!

Nobody does it better!!! Love-love-love sunrise pita. Every time I'm in south fla. I run to Sunrise. The portions are ginormous. Easy on the wallet and super fast service. Parking can be tough sometimes totally with it!

I thought I knew what a real pita sandwich was until I ate here. These pitas are the best sandwiches I think I have ever had. Very authentic to their original predecessors, these come with your choice of a variety of meats/falafel, marinated cabbage, cucumber salad, hummus, spicy sauce if desired, and more. They also serve a variety of other Mediterranean dishes, I have not been let down by one. One of my favorite appetizers is the stuffed grape leaves. The staff is friendly and the location is moderately large. A large television is frequently showing soccer games. Overall, this one of my favorite places in South FL to grab some food.

I actually really like this pace. My Jewish friend got me addicted. The first 2 times I went there, it was empty-no line. They were very patient with me and helped me figure things out because I had no idea what I was ordering, or how to order. The third time I went, there was a line out the door. The only thing I hate is randomly standing there in limbo waiting for the food. you stand in line and order just like at chipotle. the regulars know exactly what they want, and speak the language, so they can be a little pushy (just like chipotle). It was intimidating when the first time I was part of the lunch rush. But that's not the business's fault. There is a free salad bar that you can enjoy while you wait for your food, but I've never tried it. The tzatziki is the best. And this is officially the only place I eat hummus from. I thought the store bought packaged hummus was good, until I tasted this. For the hummus appetizer, you get the softest pita with a good portion of creamy-not gritty hummus. (One of the places they get the pita from is called Pita Pan Bakery and I go there to get pita often). If I lived closer, I would go everyday.

This place is awesome! You'll ride past it all the time if you don't know it's there. One of the workers gave us a sample of the shawarma since it was our first visit. I ordered the grilled chicken with a side of cucumbers, sweet tomatoes (which were delicious) red onions and rice. Of course I couldn't pass up on the pita, hummus and tahini sauce. The wife ordered a shawarma salad. We basically ate off of each others plate since it all was so good. I definitely recommend a visit especially if you left the gym on full food attack mode.

Sunrise Pita is As Good As It Gets! hard to know where to start as everything on the menu is fantastic! The schwarma cant be beat and seems to be the most authentic I have found. lately i have gotten the fried chicken cutlet pita filled with every salad Item they have...simply amazing! The hummus, tahini, jerusalum salad, babaganush and hotsauce simply can not be put into words. They have a huge variety of vegan and vegetarian items as well so there is something for everyone. Sunrise Pita is a must try if you have not already!

I have to agree with all of the other reviews, this place is absolutely fantastic. I come here for the falafel, it's definitely the best in town. The flavor and texture is just right, and then you have a ton of great options for what you want in the pita. This place is authentic and doesn't disappoint.

I checked this place out because of the good reviews. I love the pitas and falafels in NY. I didn't have major expectations from this place. But the taste of the falafel pitas are quite good. The meat marination is also quite good for the meat sandwiches. The place is run by a family. Decent service and the staff is cordial. The spices and combination of sauces are the secret for the good taste in this place. Recommended dishes are falafel, shawarma and the Jerusalem mix.

I'm never in this neck of the woods but we had just left Scan Design and were starving. I luckily checked Yelp and found this gem. I can't add anything that hasn't been said in previous reviews except this is the best damn chicken gyro I've ever had.

This was a real surprise. I thought I knew all the restaurants around serving middle eastern food, but I never imagined that a Glatt Kosher restaurant would be one of the very best. Sunrise Pita is an extremely simple place on University not far from Sunrise. The menu is limited, mostly mini-platters containing large portions of shwarma or shashlik, or similar, with large amounts of humous, eggplant etc. on the side. The style is Israeli sephardic style. It is very low key and fast-food-like. Everything is served on plastic plates with plastic forks and knives. Everyone who works there speaks Hebrew. It was evening and a lot of cops stopped to eat (always a good sign). To my amazement, a cop came up to the register and ordered in excellent Hebrew but with a strong American accent. This is a hangout for Israelis living in Broward who pine for the real thing, and they know where to find it. I don't think you can do better. P.S. The restaurant is a few blocks from Al Salam, the best Arab middle eastern restaurant in Broward. Al Salam has a bigger menu and is really very good. Many of the customers there are religious Moslems looking for halal food, just as those in Sunrise Pita are religious Israeli Jews looking for kosher food. Which is better? Actually both are excellent. In this case when the same dishes are available in both places, I think I like the ones in Sunrise Pita a bit better because the food is spicier and brasher. I should add that plenty of Jews eat at Al Salam and I have heard Israelis speaking in Hebrew and receive a warm welcome while I also heard Arabic spoken at Sunrise Pita, so everyone should feel comfortable in both places. These are simply two excellent options in the same area.

I have been going to Sunrise Pita for years and it's always been consistent. The food is delicious, the staff is helpful, and the ambience is authentic. The kababs are delicious and the sunrise mix plate is best when asked for a little well done! I'm here at least once a week.

Best pita/falafel/shawarma in south florida! It's run by Israelis so you know its authentic. Their quality is consistently excellent and you get a lot of food for the price.

I have dreams about this hidden gem. Unfortunately, I live in DC. But as an Israeli who was born and raised in South Florida, this place is SABABA! You cannot find a better falafel or shawarma sandwich even if you flew to the mother-country herself! The help-yourself salad bar is such an added value. This place is the real deal. I hope they stay open forever and never change. The quality is top-notch. I love Sunrise Pita. Until next time, my loves...

Sunrise Pita has everything you want in a great restaurant. The food is fresh, quickly prepared, tasty and well-priced. I love the Shwarma Pita sandwich so much that I've never had the desire to get anything else. My husband ordered the spicy chicken Pita the other night and I snuck a bite... it was very juicy, tender and delicious. I first visited Sunrise Pita about four years ago and at that time the food was great... I wondered when this place would get "discovered" by the masses and based on my experience last week it has become insanely popular.. with lines out the door. A place like this definitely deserves the business and I am happy to see them doing so well. An added bonus is that it is also Kosher friendly.

  • Rachel V.

The falafel is delicious here, and my friend loves the chicken on a baguette. We got a side of fries, which I know is not their specialty but they were REALLY under-cooked. When I got home I threw them in the oven for 15 minutes and then they were good. Everything is great but if you get something like fries or onion rings just make sure they are cooked before you leave.

I was so happy to find out about Sunrise Pita & Grill, I didn't realize there was a great Mediterranean restaurant in west Broward! This place is really good and is consistent every time I go! The Shawarma is to die for and falafels are great too! You get salad (Carrots, Cabbage & Peppers) with your order. Everyone is extremely friendly and always making sure you are a happy customer....what else can you ask for? They are a truly local favorite and love the Miami Heat The Heat games are normally on a large flat screen whenever the games are on TV. The restaurant is always busy no matter when I have been but that doesn't mean you will wait because they have the process down pat. If you are looking for a great and quick meal in a warm and "filling" environment! Then this is your place!

Let me begin by saying that I drive past 2 pita places to get to this one. Best food, nicest staff, welcomes everyone and makes everyone feel like a guest in their home. It's a hole in the wall gem. Their shawarma is sooooo delicious. It's a nice place to eat in or take out. Their falafel is awesome too. Great atmosphere.

Food is good but like all Israeli it's just prices to high. But the salad and the food is great.

I absolutely love this place for the felafel pita. When I lived just 5 minutes away, I used to eat here once a week. Now, I try to eat here every time I am back in Sunrise. The customer service is always great and they even remember what your usual meal is. Nice and clean place, the small salad bar which has pickles, pickled veggies and other pickled things is really good and tasty. This place is even better than my other favorite Pita place in Manhanttan, NY. I can't wait to eat here again. Yum!!!

I'm fairly sure that majority of the wars in the middle east boil down to a petty cat fights over who gets to lay claim to hummus... and falafels... and grape leaves. So I am here to single-handedly settle the score. Today I tried a falafel pita wrap at Sunrise Pita, an Israeli establishment. Very recently, I tried an almost identical dish at a middle eastern/Lebanese place. Israel wins hands down. The food was good, 5-star good? eh I don't know. All these stellar reviews that Sunrise Pita has piling up led me to believe I was going to have some kind of outer body shwarma experience... but I would say it was just good. The process itself was actually a little confusing. You walk in and order at the front, and then they tell you to go take a seat and they will call you when your food is ready, however they never took a name and thus I had to sit listening intently as the guy called out orders... and well, a whole lot of people order the same thing so it gets a little messy. Once you properly identify your food, you go back up to the front and pick what you want to put in your pita. They have hummus, cucumber salad, eggplant something, tomato something and a bunch of other stuff. Just get everything, I'm pretty sure it all tastes good. So after I got my food, my next instinct was to pay, but they told me to go eat and then pay when I'm done... but I didn't get a receipt of any kind. So pretty much they operate on the honor system. Definitely not the smoothest process possible but I guess it works for them. The food was good, I was in and out in no time, and the place was clean albeit crowded and the tables were nearly filled. All in all, definitely a good choice for your fill of middle eastern/Israeli eats and also a good choice if you are looking for food that you can taste in your mouth for the next 4+ hours.

This is the place if you miss israeli food. Its Really very good!! Even better than israel. Good shwarma and red sauce (not spicey). Good falafel. Even the baklava does not disappoint. It does not get better. Comfortable casual atmosphere and the line moves fast.

Hmmmmm, all I can think is I can't wait to go back to try another one of their delicious pitas! The shwarma pita was delicious and fresh. The meal is hearty and every bite is more succulent than the last, as the ingredients mix perfectly toward the bottom half. The first few bites are good, with each bite getting progressively better until the last three, which leave you looking forward to your next visit. I'm a fan! Yay! Update: I'm a regular now and have found their falafel pita to be my favorite item off the menu. I just wish I lived closer so I could share this gem with my hubby, friends and family!

Amazing food. A truly enjoyable experience each and every time. I will keep coming back till I try it all. I had chicken cutlet pita tonight and it did not disappoint.

Absolutely the best pita place I've found! I've been to a few more in the area, but this one takes the cake. The shawarma is my favorite. I prefer the baguette over the pita. Prices are decent, service is good.

Last weekend I tried Pita Plus, which is right down the street. I thought they deserved a 5 star rating. But after eating at Sunrise Pita & Grill, I can honestly say that Sunrise Pita & Grill deserves a true 5 star rating. The restaurant is located in a run down plaza, but don't let that stop you. When you walk inside, the restaurant is well lite and spotless. The employees are very friendly and hardworking. Like always, I ordered the chicken shish kabob pita. The chicken was was so flavorful that next time, I wouldn't mind eating it without the pita. The pita came with 4 medium sized chicken breasts. All of the topping that went inside the pita were unique and delicious. If your not sure if you'll like the toppings, they will allow you to sample them. I ordered a side of French fries, and they were really fresh. I also ordered the free baklava (thanks to checking in on Yelp) and that was just as tasty. I was highly impressed with Sunrise Pita & Grill. I usually dine at Gyroville in Plantation, but this place proved they are a 5 star rating & I will be back soon.

This place was a true, authentic middle-eastern restaurant. When I walked in, I was amazed to see the small restaurant was packed with people. The people at the counter were friendly and not hesitant to help customers. The falafel appetizer was amazing - the best falafel I had ever had. The shawarma pita was very good, be sure to get with tahini sauce. Everything was fresh and tasty, also make sure to add a refreshing Israeli juice to your meal. Truly the best pita in the US!

I have been all over Israel trying to find good Shwarma and the best Shwarma in the world is located right here in Sunrise at this hole in the wall. Do not let the location or appearance of this place scare you. I have been coming here for many years now and get the Shwarma every time. The pita is a decent size but I am a big guy so I prefer the lafa. I have also tried the Shwarma salad and it is wonderful as well. I would highly recommend this place to anyone except dont be a fool and show up on Friday night or Saturday as they will be closed!

  • Jacob W.

The best dig-in Israeli/middle-eastern place in S florida!! You want a quick shawarma in a lafa or lamb kabobs with their delicious signature salad bar and ll the Humus delight you can ask for then this is the place for you! Just great!! I've been eating here for over a year now (2-3 a week) never disappoints!!

  • Stuart H.

Their is no better place in town to get delicious pitas. This place is traditional kosher and is always busy. make sure to get their before 7 so they are not out of their Shawarma. Also, be sure to try their garlic carrots which I crave regularly. I am so glad this place is less than 5 minutes from my home.

My favorite place in all of ft Lauderdale to eat!!! Love these guys at this place, always happy and always delicious. Falafel balls so good. Shwarma to die for. Baby chicken so tender and juicy.... Highly recommended!!!

  • Craig B.

Great experience and good food. This is not the same gyros or falafel from the mall, this is the real deal! It can be a little intimidating figuring out how to order and when to pay, so just go with the flow and the workers will take care of you. The cooks were great and assisted us with ordering and adding the right condiment. The falafel was the best I have ever had. I also tried the Jerusalem mixed plate and it was very good. I can't wait to return and try the baklava.

The most freshest delicious food ever!!! The staff is extremely friendly, I normally order in a large group with my coworkers and they always get it right!

This place is aces! The staff is fun and wise cracking. The food is so so good. I love meat on a spit and this shwarma is the best. It's turkey and it's tasty. I go every friday for lunch and I work 15 minutes away. One cool thing is they give you your food from the line and you eat and then pay on your way out. Everything here looks good. The falafel was one of the best ive had. My buddy said the kabob pita was very good. A girl sitting next to me had the young chicken and it look really yummy. The prices are reasonable and worth it. Go and enjoy just dont go on friday and take my seat. Seating is limited.

    (5)
  • Katie L.

Been coming here for years and it is still amazing. I love that their schawarma is turkey. Very good. Falafel is the best I've ever had. I may get some looks when I eat there, because I am not Jewish. But that's ok. I love Jewish Food and will sacrifice some stares for some damn good food!

    (5)
  • Karin M.

To say that this place is the BEST is an understatement! Honestly, the food is insanely delicious, everyone is super friendly, and their prices are so reasonable! Every time I am in the area I make it a point to come to Sunrise pita! Also, the Baklava is delicious and a wonderful way to end an amazing meal.

This is my go to place for Israeli/middle eastern cuisine. I get my flavors of the homeland here. Whether it's the falafel, shawarma, of grilled chicken. Lots of options and reasonably priced for fresh food. Love the various salads and pickled veggies to enjoy with my purchase also. Can't get here enough.

    (5)
  • Camie J.

we eat here on a regular basis because the food is the BESTTTTT in Florida maybe the U.S. outside of israel. hands down most amazing falafel sandwich ever. my husband is obsessed with the shawarma. they are so friendly and so hardworking everything is good. fries are awesome too. could eat here daily if it wasn't for all the calories!

Excellent Israeli food. The free salads are the best around. Highly recommended.

  • Jeremy B.

I don't know if it was the best pita sandwich in the United States but it was a very good pita. They were out of shawarma so I got a chicken shishkabab pita sandwich ($8.45) "spicy with everything" that was stuffed nicely with grilled chicken, veggies, and a tasty sauce. I'll probably go back here again next time I'm in the mood for this

  • Douglas C.

Great kosher pita place out in west Broward. Chicken I have had has been tender and juicy with great spicing. Falafel is also excellent. They offer whole wheat pitas for the more health conscious. Fresh and crunchy Israeli salad, spicy sauces, fantastic hummus. Excellent complimentary pickled salad bar offering carrots, cole slaw, red cabbage etc. I have never been disappointed with food or service. Order (feel free to ask questions), eat, and then pay. Fair price. I will continue to return when out west.

A great option for a quick healthy lunch. Don't let the obscure strip center fool you. Just about the best gyro and falafel in town!

Sunrise Pita & Grill has a great owner who will take the time to introduce you to the various ingredients, items, whatever, especially if he doesn't recognize you. This place is full of regulars who seem to be enjoying their favorite lunch-time spot. "Have you ever had Shawarma before?" he asks. "Yes," I reply. "Have you ever had OUR Shawarma before?" he asks again. "No?" I look confused. "Then you have never had Shawarma before," he boldly claims. Please. I have seen, "The Avengers." I got my Shawarma on when Robert Downey Jr. subliminally told me to. Maybe even before then but I really wanted to throw in that reference, work with me here. The owner gives us a sample of the Shawarma...and it's good, oh it's good. So good that two of us change our orders to the Shawarma pita instead of the falafel pita. Me being the stubborn gal that I can be decide to stick to the falafel pita. Our pita entrees come with unlimited free salad, which is a variety of options from the salad bar. It's not so much "salad" as in lettuce leaf but rather various pickled veggies like cucumbers, carrots, and yes, some cabbage. All-in-all, a great local gem. The falafel and the hummus inside the pita I had were very very good but not as good as Taza's in Chicago, which will remain my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant. However, that Shawarma...the owner has bragging rights I can't take away.

FORTY-ONE years ago on my way from South Africa (where my folks served as mercenaries ... I mean missionaries) to the US, our family stopped in Israel for a week. We stayed in Old Jerusalem by Jaffa gate and quickly became addicted to the incredible shawarma served by friendly sidewalk vendors. Since then I have eaten scores of shawarma in many US cities, trying but always failing, to duplicate the tasty memories of those meaty marvels. UNTIL TONITE! On the wall at Sunrise Pita, it says something like "Best Pita sandwiches in the USA". But it's a lie! The truth is - they are the best in the USA and Israel (and I would guess the whole hot diggity world) Thanks Yelpers for helping me find Sunrise! And if anyone is anywhere near Ft. Lauderdale, just make the pilgrimage. You won't be sorry and you will have a standard with which to judge every shawarma for the rest of your life. Shalom Zephaniah 3:17

I always get the Shawrma (I think that's how you spell it) Pita: with salad, hummus and tahini sauce. This place hasn't let me down, even though I go here sporadically due to me traveling for work a lot. Every time I go, this pita is always delicious and hits the spot!! A MUST try if you are ever in the area and looking for a quick bite =)

  • Amy S.

This place was recommended to my sister-in-law on the airplane to FL by her seatmate. We took the whole family, 7 of us. We were warmly greeted by the owners when we walked in and he explained all the foods and gave us many very generous samples. We all loved it! It is not just the best pita in the USA, it is also the best shawarma and falafel! And the carrots at the cold station were heavenly. This will be on our list of a must visit any time we are back for a visit. And the restaurant is kept strictly Kosher, too!

Seriously love this place! From the people to the delicious plates to the self-served sides! Absolutely love the carved shawarma and the beef shish kabobs!!

  • Sivaram V.

I love this place...their pita bread is soft and wonderful...the falafel tastes amazing..they have delicious toppings...the salads are complimentary and they are awesome...the guys behind the line are very friendly...their baklava is amazing...You would never ever step into this place if you judge it just by its location and the appearance from outside...this place gets really crowded during lunch...and that says a lot about the place... If my wife liked Mediterranean food...I would go here atleast least 3 times a week but she doesnt...so I do it twice a week :D

  • Tyra B.

Soooo good! Never had a clue what Glatt Kosher was but now can't live without it! I had the chicken pita and the owner let me sample several other delicious items from the menu, including the homemade hummus, yum.

This restaurant is amazing!! my husband and i are going to eat there at list once a week for the last 3 years and the food is delicious, great stuff, always clean (to me its very important) and not expensive. If you haven't eaten it before, just try it. Don't question it!

This place is the best! Had an amazing falafel pita with salad and tahini! Great service too! Very authentic Israeli. Good vibes. The exterior is not as impressive as the interior. There was a section where you could get cool side dishes too.

Found this place searching for a place to eat for lunch, what a wonderful recommendation. Great lunch spot, very busy. Owner and staff were friendly, helpful with food selection, even gave me sample of the shawarma, which was delish! I ordered the Steak salad and it was great portion size and i loved it. Diner style and even though i might have been the only non jewish person, i didnt feel out of place. super comfortable and i would return again and try their Pitas. yummm.

So good! Shawarma is amazing. Service is friendly and helpful. Hummus is good. The pitas are warm. You'll love everything about it. Kosher - so closed Friday 4pm-Sunday lunch.

We were in the area so I had to try. Pretty good falafel sandwhich (would have helped if I had ate it sooner since we did carry out) and the customer service was really good. I also liked the fries we ordered and the free Baklava from the yelp deal. Would definitely stop by again if in the area.

    (4)
  • Lauren C.

The pita was good, falafel dry. Very much a neighborhood joint defiantly not restaurant atmosphere. No ambiance, just kinda "there" to grab a sandwich if passing by. Next time I will do just that "drive by"

Eh, should of had the falafel...Shwarma didn't donut for me. Salads and spreads were good.

Came here following a yelp search yesterday. Falafel pita was great. Not a bad price at all. Came around 1pm and it was PACKED which is always a good sign. Service was pretty quick. Yelp has satisfied me yet again!

I love this place! I used to eat here all the time before I moved, but I always visit when I'm in the area. The guys behind the counter always remember me and what I order which is pretty cool. The young chicken is my fav, they have a large variety of salads and the free salad bar is awesome. The sweet carrots are amazing!! Definitely try this place, you won't regret it.

  • Louie C.

I tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago and I've been back three times. I ordered the falafel pita for myself and a spicy shawarma for a friend to go. First of all, this was delicious!! They fried the falafel balls to order and they were extremely authentic tasting!! Second, I think the staff is very friendly and helpful. They explained all of the sauces and items that I could put inside of my pita and what the side salad bar items were. My favorite side by far were the carrots. Since, I went in a few times in a short period and asked lots of questions, they remembered me and what I ordered. I will quickly become a regular at this great restaurant!.

I live in Nashville and visit south Florida about 4-5 times per year to see my family. My 93 year old grandmother lives in Sunrise Lakes, about 5 minutes from here, and I never miss visiting her when I am there, and I never miss going to Sunrise Pita when I visit her. I used to live in Israel and I have to say that this place probably has the best Jerusalem Mixed Grill I have had Chutz La'Aretz. Their salads are great, their schwarma is delicious, even their fries, while not as good as many in the US, are not as good because they are truly 'Israeli style'. The little side salad bar is tiny compared with those in Israel, but for the relatively cheap price they charge for Kosher food, its still pretty good. B''H my grandmother should live to be 120, I will still make sure to visit Sunrise Pita on every visit

    (5)
  • Andrew J.

I love this place. They make a GREAT Falafel pita. Since I started coming here, I have come 2-3 times per week. Also, the guys that work here are all very friendly. You should try it out. Ask for the Falafel with all the salads and ask them to make it extra spicy!

    (4)
  • Fred W.

This place should be called "Mind-blowing Shawarma" because that's what it delivers every time I go. It's at the top of my "Best Holes in the Wall" List for Broward. Taste the food and you will understand why. If you can't get past the shady location and "minimal" decor, you're not worthy of the foodie experience.

    (5)
  • Keith B.

Just awesome. Very fresh. I love the fact that the pitas were grilled and in fact I literally could not touch them for 3 minutes without burning. I love the different types of salads to load up on. The Falalafel platters we had were awesome. Been looking forward to going back.

  • Jodi C.

After all the great reviews I had to try this place myself. When I entered the man behind the counter asked if it was my first time I said yes & he proceeded to give me samples. I tried the falafel & the grape leaves. Both were DELICIOUS! The staff is polite, quick & make you feel welcome. A restaurant that's actually happy you're there. I ordered a falafel pita with everything on it & took an order of grape leaves home. I loved them both & will be back for sure.

I don't have any pictures because the second I had their food in my hands, I tore it up. Sunrise Pita & Grill is a Glatt Kosher hole in the wall. Please do not bring outside food and drink in there. Stay off to the side to check out the menu on the wall, when you're ready to order, tell the gentlemen at the food bar. Find a table and they'll call you up to ask you your toppings and to pick up your food. You pay when you're done eating. I saw a review on here that said that they didn't like non-Jewish people, which is completely false. Anyways, we started off with their delicious Hummus. I don't remember the name of it, but it's regular hummus w/ unmashed Chick Peas on top. I ordered the Falafel plate and the hubby had the Beef Pita, I forgot the name, because I was in a Falafel trance. The food is simply delicious, I'm a fan.

How come I haven't heard of this place!? What a gem!!Thank goodness for YELP! The gentlemen working were a reminder of as good as it gets ...very hospital and generous!! I am Vegetarian and I don't know what is in the falafel It tasted like mint and lemony chickpea goodness! I had it on a Pita and the layers of salads and hummus with Spicy and sweet...HOLY...Id say holy cow but I dont eat cow...but the food is just that.. HOLY ...Or Amazing whatever you are into lol..The eggplant salad was really special aswell..The best falafel I have ever had in my lifetime honestly!! I was with my father and This place was pleasant spare of the moment surprise! We walked in confused on what to order...Immediately they had warm samples of the chicken and before I could stick my nose up at the chicken a falafel was next ..My Dad had the Jerusalem Mix and was equally impressed...I hardly every give 5 stars on Yelp but the 5th star was for the level of surprise!! as a daughter of a Chef that doesn't happen to often and being a vegetarian I just expect sometimes to be disappointed..Keep up the good work!!

If Guy Fieri could find this place amongst the clutter-mess of stores in this plaza, he'd definitely feature it in his Diner's, Drive-In's, & Dive's. I remember someone telling me that they had good pita's here, but it wasn't until I tried it recently that I completely agree. The place is a bit of a dive, but good for quick Middle Eastern food and at affordable prices. We had the schwarma, falafel balls, and the kebab platter. The stern-faced guy behind the counter/grill master looks intimindating until you get him to start talking.... he gave us samples to try as we pondered the menu. (Yet, if it is busy, you don't want to dilly dally...as these customers are serious about their food.) The kicker for me, was the salad bar. They call it a salad bar, but it was more like a pickle bar...they had carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, beets, onions...everything.. pickled, and yep, on the house. \( ^__ ^)/

  • Gary H.

Usually not a big falafel fan but was in the area on business and found some reviews of this place and had to try. Omg. I now love falafel pita's. Messiest lunch ever (at least 10 napkins) but soooo good. I'll be in the area for a couple of days so should have at least 2 or 3 more meals here. Good dive. Friendly people.

    (4)
  • Jake N.

Home run schawarma! Laffa bread is nice and fluffy, doesn't crack and spill your schawarma. Great amba and tahini also. The chef taking your order is nice too, and generous with the portions. One schawarma laffa will feed two along with some falafel balls!

    (5)
  • Jason H.

I really like thier salads and their helpful suggestions and service.

    (4)
  • Tammie H.

If you like falafel or shwarma, then you'll love this place!! Honestly, everything I've ever had is tasty - whether I've gone for super spicy or not. I also like the fact that it's kosher so if I need something for my in-laws, I can get it here & not worry.

    (4)
  • Christopher G.

Best Falafel I have had outside of Israel. The falafel are prepared while you wait, so they are warm and crispy. Everything is Glatt Kosher, fresh, flavorful. Try the free salad/toppings bar for sure, i recommend the marinated carrots.

    (5)
  • Karen D.

The food at this small, unassuming spot is amazing. The wide variety of salads and fresh ingredients that make up the food make the 30 minute trip worth it. I highly recommend the falafel. The gents that work behind the counter are friendly, but very direct and to the point. You'll hear a lot of Hebrew while there, but don't worry if you don't speak it, you will still get what you want and very promptly.

    (5)
  • Billy W.

I moved to Chicago from South Florida four years ago and I miss this place so much. I have never even seen lafa anywhere else. Best shawarma of all time. Everything about this place is great, the seedy location, the way the guys behind the counter look down your girl-friend's shirts while they take your order, how when you call when they answer they say "PEE-TA?", all the little pickled free vegetable add-ons you can have on the side of your meal. Even their tahini sauce is above and beyond anything I've had anywhere else. I'm 1,400 miles away and I want it for dinner :(

    (5)
  • Andrea R.

Great and friendly service. Great tasting food, very authentic and flavorful. Defenetily a must go place!

    (5)
  • Seanne C.

The food here is amazing. It can seem pricey, but the quality and portions more than justify the price. If you're unfamiliar with middle eastern food the staff will gladly explain or make suggestions. This is a kosher establishment, and run by orthodox jews. So they are closed Saturdays and observe every Jewish holiday, and will be closed on days that seem random. Recommendation: The shawarma or grilled chicken pita with all the fixins.

    (5)
  • Elijah K.

That guy was right extremely rude and acted like if you did not spend 100.00 with them your crap! I felt this place was very racial to anyone who's not a Jew!! No more money from me , I don't care how many bullcrap prayers you chant around your food... Your in America now huh don't bite the hand that feeds you.....

    (1)
  • Monique L.

Small? Yes. A little run down? Yes. BUT GREAT! I loved this place. Probably the best falafel I've ever had. I live in Miami and I would definitely head up there just to eat. Vegetarian friendly too with lots of veggie sides to choose from. And it's true what everyone else is saying, just let them know spicy or not spicy and you're good!

    (4)
  • Hugh R.

These people are racist Zionists. As soon as I walked in I was ostracized by their annoyed glaze as I proceeded to look past their disrespect to try their falafel. Frankly it was over cooked almost burnt and their vegetables didn't make my palette pop. There are way better places to spend your money with people who will appreciate it. I was very disappointed and will not return.

    (2)
  • Derek S.

This is a hidden mecca. It's so good, so amazing, that I hesitate to even write a review here. It's busy, and has a pretty large audience with the local Jewish community, but it's hidden in a strip mall. This is far and away the best falafel, schwarma, and hummus I've had. I prefer the schwarma to the falafel, but among my coworkers, that can be an intense debate. Go here. Order a Schwarma Pita (Or Laffa, if you feel like you can REALLY eat.), spicy, with everything. The best salads and sides to ever go on a pita. This is probably my favorite joint in South Florida. I wish I could give it six stars.

  • M B.

Frequented Sunrise Pita & Grill when I lived in Tamarac a couple years ago, and try to stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood (and not on a Saturday since they observe the sabbath). Anything with the word "baby chicken" in it, do yourself a favor and try it. yummy! As far the questions, yes, sometimes the staff is not super cheery (or there's a line) so just simply let them know you want it spicy or not spicy... usually covers it. The seating area is not extra large but I've seen groups of families come in (strollers and all) to share a meal. Note, you also cannot bring in any outside food or drink (had a latte one time I was trying to pick up a call-ahead, and was stopped before I reached the counter). My apologies. Great place for really good fare.

    (4)
  • Charlie J.

    Best falafel on the planet.

    (5)
  • Cristy M.

Because I've only been here once and the only thing I can rate is the thing that I had, the Falafel Pita, I can't give a five star rating in all good conscience. However, that Falafel Pita loaded with hummus, salad, sweet onion and tomato salsa, cabbage, eggplant, and tahini was the best thing I've ever tasted in my life. I would marry the Falafel Pita if it were legal in Florida.

    (4)
  • Charles B.

The Schwarma Laffa's are HUGE! and they taste awesome. This place is a hidden gem like everyone says as it is in a strip mall underneath a martial arts dojo. (of note check out the strip mall there is another awesome place here) Went here the 1st time a couple of years ago after watching Dont mess with the Zohan and wanted some fizzy bubbala , well they had that and more. All the food is great even though they recently americanized it adding burgers and fries and chicken strips for the unimaginitive eater. Service is cool and fast.

    (5)
  • Jillian D.

I cannot even begin to explain how much I love this place. A friend took me about 3 years ago and I've never been able to find anyone that does falafel like them. There's generally pretty busy and loud inside but that's part of the appeal. It's a place that recommend to everyone I know. The falafel is definitely my favorite. They have a great hummus plate as well. I personally have not tried the shwarma but people I've brought have given it rave reviews as well. Last I checked, they are closed on for the sabbath so if you want to go over the weekend make sure to call and check if they are open.

    (5)
  • Michael C.

Last week, I went to this place for the first time in a few years. Total hole in the wall and not really the cleanest looking place, but the staff are very friendly and the food is pretty good. I have had better, but it's at least as good as the other Pita joints along University in Sunrise, and seeing all of these rave reviews from both Yelp and from friends, maybe I should come back again and see how it holds up.

    (3)
  • Roman S.

It's tucked in the middle of a two-story strip mall that looks to have been built before I was born. Bad location, not very up-kept, but very authentic. Includes a TV that runs an Israeli news channel, some icons depicting old testament. It's intimidating for a someone not familiar with middle-eastern food and the staff were not helpful. The guy behind the counter just stared at me when I asked for his recommendation. When I asked for a glass of water, I was given a plastic cup and sent to the bathroom to get some tap. Kind of ruined the taste of the pita. My pita with everything on it was around $12 dollars -- very pricy for one meal with no drinks or sides.

Outstanding - I stumbled on to this place a few days because of Yelp. Had the falafel sandwich and it was incredible. All the fixings were fresh and tasty. Very clean. Very friendly service. And I thought the price was very reasonable.

I love Falafel and they do it up right! This place is a small less than ambient space with great food. I get the Falafel Lafa and not only is it fun to say it's a great big two fisted meal that makes me so glad I found this place. They have shawarma and other hard to find pita delights. Order from the counter, get an israeli juice drink and sit back and enjoy. Oh and I heard they aren't open late so try to get there by 9 or so at the latest. Good for vegetarians. Very weird strip mall that has every nationality and diversion in one spot .

seriously the best falafel/pita place in broward! try to get there early though if you are in the mood for schwarma. i've shown up a few times at my 8pm dinner break at work to find that they are all out for the night. also make sure to try the weird deep fried goodies they have. i'm not quite sure what is in them but they are delicious! they always have a good selection of israeli juices and iced teas and the staff is always friendly and helpful - one guy who is always there knows my weirdo regular order by heart! they are closed for shabbat - go a few times during the week so you aren't jonesin' on friday and saturday ;)

Best Fallafel ever. Hands down. My girlfriend took me here the first time i visited her in lauderdale and since then everytime I am in lauderdale i get a falaffel or two( one now one for later!). I had the shawarma and its pretty good too but the falaffel is just the best ask for it with everything and the hot sauce! Another kick ass thing is the pickeled stuff bar as far as i can tell its all homemade pickled stuff from what seems like a gardineria mix to a kinda homemade cucumber pickel. try it all cause its free!! One thing i gotta say is make sure you alll ways check your calender for a jewish holliday cause these guys are practicing jews so dont expect them to be there on saturday or any other jewish holiday. A few times ive come down from orlando for the day only to realize its saturday or some random jewish holiday. Anyways check it out and all other falaffel with pale in comparison. P.S.- My favorite brit pub in FL also calls this same stripmall home B.

Amazing food. If you are looking for fresh ingredients and amazing flavors come here. The salad bar is amazing. Young chicken is ridiculously tender

I was looking for something different to eat for lunch and found this place thru Yelp. It is Glatt Kosher and the schwarma in pita is very good . My only complaint is that I found pieces of BONE in my sandwich! I do not think I will be back.
