wow, you can tell when a new spot hits the area - this place is packed and I'm told usually is.... The dining room is pricy (in FL terms) but they have a great huge outdoor seating area and bar - happy hour is until 6 I believe. The place is really pretty on the water and I like how spread out it feels. However it is very busy - so much so they offer free valet bc parking is tight. Our calamari was ok, come for drinks and discount appetizers.

we have dinner their for our aniversery the food was great... the place is a good weekend distination

I had previously been to the Jolly Sailor in downtown Stuart back in the day and am glad to see that they've returned in a brand new location under the bridge. It's a nice sized location and overlooks the water, which is a much better solution for them than just in the middle of downtown. We came for lunch so although I cannot speak to dinner, their lunch menu had some great options which we really enjoyed. We both started off with a cup of the beer, bacon and cheddar soup which was available in the old location and still remains one of my favorite items on the menu. There were free refills on the Coke products and they come in quite large glasses as well. Always a bonus since its one of the highest mark-up items in the business. I had the fish and chips. The fish was FABULOUS. Two large pieces in a great beer batter. The chips were alright but not great. Maybe because of the English heritage I expected more but I wasn't blown away. MK had the Sailor's Burger and it was made to order perfectly. It was juicy and darn near too messy to eat but she said it was great. Aidan had the mac and cheese and really liked it. He also grabbed some fries off of our plates. I'm glad we got there a bit early for lunch because on a Saturday, they were full-up and even had a table of 16 coming in. They have 930 feet of courtesy docking right in the Marina and right in front of the restaurant.

Great marina waterfront location but truly mediocre food for the price. Two stars instead of 3 because my expectations were much higher. This was our first visit and maybe our last(?). Reservation was for 7:30 on a Wednesday eve for outside seating but we weren't seated until sometime after 8:00. We had the Eggplant Stack appetizer which was quite good and plenty for two if not more. For entrees we ordered the Baked Sea Scallops and Shrimp Au Gratin and then also the Pan Roasted Blackened Salmon with Pineapple Mango Salsa. Like I said, the appetizer was pretty good. But the entrees were nothing more than mediocre, on the bland side and rather disappointing. They served the Scallops and Shrimp on a warm platter in a very warm Au gratin sauce with the outer layer of cheese already forming a crust over the seafood, the combination of these things continued to cook the seafood whether you wanted it to or not because there is no extra plate to transfer the food and keep it from doing so. So if you plan to enjoy the company of your spouse/date/friends, the view of the marina and the outdoor ambiance do it while you chew or else the extra minutes will leave this dish WAY overcooked and too chewy. The Blackened Salmon had absolutely zero spice...it looked blackened but really had no flavor. Further, it seemed the salsa was primarily pineapple and may have come out of a can since it was syrupy...it also completely overpowered the Salmon since it was missing the spice. Disappointing. We may go back for a beverage at the bar on the deck but likely not to dine.

My company held an evening reception here and it was wonderful. The service and food were great. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious: lamb chops, teriyaki chicken, chilled jumbo shrimp with a mean horseradish cocktail sauce, mini crab cakes, and fried mushrooms were all so savory and the trays just kept coming. The lamb was truly the star of the evening: perfectly tender and buttery. Truly the best lamb I have ever tasted! The chef previously worked at Rottie's and the Brickwall. If you are a local, you will be familiar with these restaurants and their high reputation for delicious food. I would make my reservation for sunset and enjoy the waterfront dining experience. I didn't get a very good look at the menu but the prices seemed reasonable, and after tasting the lamb, I would definitley like to come back.

Won't be returning. Was promptly seated and then waited and waited. Waitress walked by but looked away. Left without even being offered a drink......
(1)Joan R.
Great view of yachts and marina. However, all dishes are covered with cheese and side vegetables were undercooked. Not for a foodie.
(2)Mayank D.
Excellent service that was not only nice but attentive. Food was good for FL standards and I ended up ordering the Sesame Tuna (very good and fresh) and the Garlic Shrimp Entree (very decadent with very large shrimps). I left full and satisfied with all items being fresh, but it will cost you. My only issue was that the place is supposed to be a seafood place, but I think the menu is like 75% non-seafood (i.e. pasta, chicken, steaks, and chops).
(4)Barry D.
This is clearly the place to be on a Friday night in Stuart. The bar scene was alive and friendly. The bartenders were cordial, efficient and on top of their game. And, the bar menu was excellent -- soup and two appetizers were just right for dinner (Manhattan clam chowder and two crab cakes.) The prices are a little high, but value was delivered.
(4)John S.
The view is terrific, the atmosphere is warm, but the noise level is extremely loud and the food is just average. I may go back for a drink outside, but not for the food. Disappointing!
(3)Mark W.
Beautiful view of the marina, really high quality food. Have been three times in the past two weeks, always good, just a little pricey.
(4)shauna r.
Best restaurant in Stuart hands down!! Don't believe the bad reviews. My boyfriend and I frequent this place at lease once a week when in town and the food is amazing. The only thing that beats the food is the view. This is a great place to watch the sunset any day of the week. Sometimes it takes a little while to get your food but the wait is worth it. Might want to make reservations because they are packed 7 nights a week.
(5)LG V.
We must have hit a bad night because the service was slow and the food just OK. My portion was cold and my partners was over cooked. Since this is a new restaurant we will give them the benefit of the doubt and try it one more time..

We ate here on 2/19/12. We were a party of six. We had reservations and were quickly shown to our table. The waitress came over and took our drink order and then came back and took our order. That was the last time we saw the waitress. We never received any bread or drink refills. The food arrived via the kitchen staff who had no idea who ordered what. One of the people with us ordered the Prime Rib special The waitress said that it was prime rib and it was ordered from the waitress as the prime rib special. When the food came, it was presented as rib-eye. At that point we asked if it was prime rib or rib-eye. The person who delivered the food was not sure and since we were sitting outside it was dark and so we couldn't tell. We had the manager come over and we explained what was going on. The manager said that they don't have prime rib so it was rib-eye. She offered to take it back but we decided we would keep it and she didn't charge us for it. She also told us that she would switch our waitress. The manager said that they were short staffed. Ten minutes later a new waitress showed up with bread - although at this point the man who delivered our dinner, brought the bread. The only thing we asked the waitress for was water. She came back ten minutes later to check on us and we asked if they had run out of water. She ran to get the one glass of water that we had asked for. We decided to skip dessert but couldn't find the waitress to get the check. I went and found the manager who took one drink off the bill and printed our check, which I promptly paid so we could leave. At the same time one of the waitresses showed up at our table and threw the check at us. So, the service was worse then terrible and there was no tip. As for the food, it was fair. Some of us liked it and some of us didn't. I thought my shrimp dish was pretty good until we got home and my stomach bothered me the rest of the evening. There are places where the food and the service are much better. I would avoid this one. While the view is magnificent, between the service and the food, it isn't worth it.
(1)Anthony T.
Congratulations: Two years of outstanding food & service in November 2011.
(4)Edward E.
Terrible food and drinks. The food is bland and pricy. This Is ready for a tourist and is a great place for bottle beer and the view.
(1)Joan C.
I find this restaurant to be a bit "hit and miss." My last dining experience was "miss." The beet salad was drenched in salad dressing - way too much. My sirloin was very chewy, my friends Fra Diablo was searingly hot. Hubby's grouper seemed the best bet of the night. Our waitress, Silky, was super nice. It has a great view and the live music can be a plus if you are not seated too close to the band. It seems to be a major pick up joint though.
(3)Laurie P.
Casual waterfront dining. Love the decor. Crabcake sandwich was good. Nice place for lunch.
(3)Patty W.
What a nice place to have dinner. It was swamped for a Saturday night and we had to wait a little bit before our table was ready. One of our friends celebrated his 40th birthday (can't believe he's already over the hill) tonight and it turned out very nice. They brought out a fruit and cheese platter, which consisted of crackers with different kind of cheeses and diced ham. The fruits were strawberries (my fav!), cantelope, and grapes. Since there was 20 of us, they gave the host a package deal, which the guests had a choice of ceasar or house salad and sirloin, salmon, or tuna for the entree. I got the sirloin and it was the best choice. I don't like seafood, so it made it even more better ;) It was cooked just how I liked it and I didn't have to tell the waiter well done. I wasn't sure if they cooked it like that for everyone. It was odd since the waiter didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked and we didn't realize it until after we got our food. No complaints though ;) It came with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. The kitchen and staff did an excellent job with handling the party and making sure the party went smoothly. The marina view is very pretty as well. Be sure to check it out during the day when the dolphins are pulling off a show ;)
(4)Dennis P.
One of our most favorite places. Great location on the water at a marina, good seating indoors and out, extensive menu to satisfy all tastes, and large portions. Every meal we have had has been prepared incredibly well. Go early in high season and have a reservation as it gets very busy.
(5)ron g.
Been here many times. Excellent waterfront/marina atmosphere, very good food and friendly service. The best appetizer on the menu is the eggplant stack. One my favorite restaurants in the Stuart area.
(4)Dawn R.
We have tried very hard to like this restaurant. As with many waterfront locations, the atmosphere is fantastic but lacks what is needed to make the restaurant a good restaurant. Lunch is the better meal there. High priced but nice scenery, location and food. We have gone there twice for dinner. First time was average tasting food, average service and a very HIGH bill. This last time takes the cake though....we came by boat with 7 people, ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner. A sure $300+ tab. Most of us ordered the specials or filet mignons. One member of our party wanted a cheeseburger (which he gets there for lunch once a week or so)...there is no sandwiches on the dinner menu but cheeseburger is on the kids menu. Waitress takes are order and comes back to tell us the chef refuses to make cheeseburgers for dinner cause it isn't on the menu...the waitress suggests maybe we should order the kids cheeseburger. We complain...we are spending over $300, not trying to cheap out, he just wants a cheeseburger. No go. Sent her back 3 times, talking to the manager, cook, etc. Wasn't until we threatened to pack up and leave did they finally give in. Then, of course, who would eat something the chef was pissed to make? Inside was pretty empty for a Sunday night....think others are looking past the pretty exterior too.
(2)Thomas J.
Wow, incredible atmosphere. Food was really good...much better then the original Jolly Sailors. The place just opened, but barely any kinks. Just hit it for lunch too and the fish and chips are AWESOME.
(5)Geoffrey K.
We went to Sailors Return with another couple and really had a wonderful dinner. I had grouper francaise, which is a grilled grouper which has been dipped in egg batter served with a sauce. My wife had crab cakes, which she said were excellent and among the best she has had here in Stuart. The setting of the restaurant was very attractive; we sat near an open window which looked out on a marina and could watch the sunset in the background. The interior of the restaurant was also very pretty, and the service was excellent. However, readers should note that we went to the restaurant for dinner and that the lunch menu offers very different selections and is much less expensive. We have not been there for lunch, but have been told by friends that it is also very good. If so, trying this place for lunch offers a chance to enjoy the ambiance and beauty of the setting, but at a substantial savings.
(4)Bill T.
The location is superb, right at the foot of the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart. The sunsets are spectacular. The food is good, not great. The service is usually pretty good, sometimes great and sometimes iffy. The indoors usually is pretty loud, the place to be seated is outdoors, wonderful views of the yachts and a great people watching destination. The outdoor bar is fabulous and the music on the weekend is right out of the islands. A little pricey but you're paying for the view.
(4)Orla M.
So there yelp reviews are pretty accurate really nice ambience, amazing views they have plenty of staff and free valet parking. Customer service is great don't get me wrong it's definitely not lacking in that department very clean restaurant my only problem was the food. I ordered the chicken milanese which was a little dry and didn't seem seasoned just had no flavor to say the least. It also came with risotto which wasn't that bad. This place could be absolutely amazing if the food was just seasoned. They have the amazing views, ambience and along with there great customer service this place has the potential to be five stars. Indoor and outdoor seating is available I opted to sit outside for the amazing view of the marina. The view is breathtaking and makes for great selfie
(3)denis e.
The view is impressive as are the decorations; so if your dining experience is about ambiance and setting, then this place might be for you. But having gone here twice with groups, neither me, my wife, nor any of our dining companions have ever had a meal here that was "great". The prices are great, which raises expectations, but the food is mediocre and suspect. My wife's grouper looked awesome but she said it tasted off and was gifted last night with cramps and diarrhea. My hogfish was so so and the crab topping was anything but delicious. My son ordered sirloin which came cooked in blue-cheese so much that you could not Taste the steak. My poor dad hated the taste of his beautiful scallops overwhelmed by a glaze that he did not like. So the place and the food LOOK beautiful and cost a fortune, the food itself really sucks. This place is a pretender, don't spend money here if you value substance over style.

Ahoy Mates! Sitting in this restaurant and looking out over the marina reminds me of old Ft. Lauderdale. When I mean old I mean the early 70's. Bahia Mar before it became Bahia Mar. Now sitting inside this restaurant and bar is present day utopia. Well appointed with some eye catching art work and waterfall outside. Happy Hour On a Friday afternoon, not one seat is available at the bar. My wife and I walk outside and same story no seats at he bar. Instead of getting pissed, I know this is a great sign that as tourists we found a good place. I stand on the side rail and my wife sits in the one open chair. Hey this a great way to lose weight by standing:) the server comes right over and takes are drink orders and tells us about he happy hour specials. I'm not gonna sit here and break them down for you, just show up because they have some great deals. We have a few drinks and BAM two seats open up at the bar. We head over and start talking with a nice couple who retired from New Jersey. Our server than tells us is she is from Coconut Creek and we start chit chatting about Broward County. You can see where I'm going with this, everyone is super friendly. I watch as other folks are getting food and I tell my bride we have to come back to eat. Since we had attend a party we paid our tab and left. Next Day We are back! We decide to take my in laws here for lunch. They were happy to meet us because they have only been here once for their anniversary a couple of years. They felt it was kinda expensive but they loved the food. We order smoked fish dip and Sailors Bread which is described as fresh chopped tomato, garlic, basil, extra virgin Olive Oil, melted fontina and Gorgonzola cheeses served over bread. Basically bruschetta on steroids. Now the fish dip is made by a local joint called Mrs. Peters. It is served all around Stuart, Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce. It's a local favorite. I'm not a big fan of this dip because it too fine and has to much mayo for my taste. Many restaurants and bars serve food that is not made in house. Desserts are a great example of what I'm talking about. But, fish dip? It's not hard to make this from scratch because I've done it and I'm not a chef. Shit I'm looking right at the water. You can't get some damn fresh kingfish and smoke that shit up mix it with a little mayo, some dill relish and some seasonings? That advice goes to all the restaurants that are serving this Mrs. Peters Dip. BTW Mrs Peters Dip is not bad at all I think this restaurant can make their own. Enough of that. The sailor bread was tasty and original. I'm a big fan of layering flavors without adding lots of salt. This was a great example of taking simple components and making magic. For main course we had, a Mahi sandwich, blacken Mahi tacos, a chicken salad sandwich and a free range chicken sandwich. I had the tacos and the pieces of Mahi were plentiful and the sauce that was drizzled in top cooled down the blacken seasonings and added a flavor pop to the whole dish. It had a thousand island taste that was thinned out into more a creamy sauce. Everyone one else loved their selections. Service Top notch. Our server was Rich and he was so polite as the day is long. I was joking springs with him as he continued to say, It's my pleasure. I couldn't help but think of Chik filet. The workers their always say that and I often marveled on how polite those workers are. I told Rich that and knew exactly what I was talking about it and we had a good chuckle. I was so impressed with him I spoke with the manager Michael to give Rich kudos for a job well done. Verdict If I lived here I would be a regular. I didn't see price as an issue because they had a nice Summertime menu with some for decent set price and the drink specials were spot on. Remember to tell Rich and Michael that Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!
(5)Jennifer S.
We love the ambiance and that they have Sailor Jerry..Nothing beats a Sailor Jerry and Diet Coke haha
(5)Jennifer K.
Fun happening place whenever I've over in the area. Accessible by boat as well. Good food, good service and fun atmosphere. Can get very busy and crowed as the night goes on but was visiting when the Stella Band was playing and they were good. People dancing and having a good time... That's what is all about right? There is outside and inside seating as well as they serve on the dock as well. Orders the fish dip which was amazing and it's Mrs Peters which is locally made. Had chicken wings as well and they were good.
(5)Amanda P.
What a great location! Right on the river underneath the Roosevelt bridge in Stuart. Great indoor and outdoor dining, fun and lively bands at night and the view is outstanding. Dolphin and manatee have even been known to swim up for a visit! Come by boat or drive up but parking is limited. Valet available for cars.
(4)Justin K.
The atmosphere is a tad old for our age group but the view is great. Would normally give 4 stars to this place based on the food/drinks but the prices are too high for what you get which dropped them to a 3/5. Good for a nice dinner with your significant other though.
(3)Michelle H.
Hands down the best meal we had in the area. Free Valet parking started things out with ease. We didn't make reservations but the thirty minute wait was smoothed over by a trip their outside bar. We sat outside, just off the water, surrounded by beautiful boats and the setting sun. We started with Caesar salads and I ordered the cheese scallops and risotto and my husband and I were both in awe of how amazing it was. Then we tried his meal, shrimp scampi over angel hair pasta instead of risotto (chef happily made this substitution). We were stunned by how delicious it was. I kept sneaking bites of his food and he raved with every bite. The only disappointment was that we were too full to try the orange cake everyone raves about! The whole experience was topped off by great service from Patrick. This place was the most expensive place we ate at on our vacation but it was hands down the best and worth every penny. We will definitely be back.
(5)Patty B.
Food was excellent, great atmosphere, great service and great views... Awesome day. And by the way I heard about the orange cake, tried it and it was delicious. Is dessert to share
(5)Mark B.
As others have pointed out - awesome view and location next to marina. Not lacking in staff either, lots of wait staff, managers, valet, etc. this might explain the relatively high prices versus the quality of the food, not worth the price. Wife had shrimp scampi which was served over cooked on a plate that was ridiculously hot. I had the rigatoni which was under cooked not even to Al dente. Calamari was pretty good but tomato sauce kind of watered down. I would go back for drinks but not for dinner.
(2)Woolly B.
Sat down and no one served us. We left, and went to the Gafford. It was our 15th Wedding Anniversary, so I guess this place made it that much more memorable.
(1)Sheila L.
Sailors return is one of those places that makes for an absolute wonderful girls night out. You can sit on the water and listen to music or stay inside for a relaxing dinner. The food and drinks are pricey so beware. It's very easy to get carried away and wind up with a huge bill at the end.
(4)Adam S.
Ate here for dinner last week and then lunch today. I have no idea why this place is only rated 3.5 stars. Best restaurant in the area and we have hit them all in the two weeks we have spent in Stuart. Great service. Great food. Great location. Enjoy!
(5)Crystal C.
its good the food is ok. Just very pricey. I do like going there when there is a great sunset. Great beet salad
(3)RE A.
I visited Florida's Treasure Coast for the first time last week. My local friend took me to this restaurant for dinner mid-week and I enjoyed the location and ambience very much. I had their catch-of-the-day fish and thought it was well prepared and seasoned. The restaurant itself is along the St. Lucie River and provided a front-row seat to a fabulous sunset.
(4)Allan G.
The view and food were to die for! Great waitstaff and valet parking! A little pricey but well worth it!
(5)Dean H.
I had the jumbo sea scallops. Excellent. So was my Caesar salad with anchovies. My wife had the jumbo lump crab cakes which. She has rated, excellent. Great service. Great atmosphere. $$$ in price but well worth it.
(5)Megan B.
Wow. Beautiful views, fantastic service and incredible food. Order escargot, spinach dip and fried green tomatoes as apps. We could not stop eating all of them. My husband and friend ordered the specials. I think they were a grouper, and a tuna dish. My sons also got fish. All were incredibly pleased with their food. Reported as best, freshest fish they've eaten. I got chicken with arugula. Waitress informed me it was not breaded upon ordering, so I knew what to expect. I suggest they try breading it. It was the one just ok moment of the night. The orange cake is to die for, and boys loved the Creme brûlée. Great live music, as well as spectacular people watching. Especially the tipsy cougars on the prowl at the bar. Beautiful sunset. Pricey but perfect .
(5)Sara C.
Great location on river. Limited menu choices. The prices are on the high side. Valet parking, nice breeze but I believe this restaurant could be so much better. More fish options would be nice since you are located on the water
(3)Joanne W.
Can't beat this view! The food was pretty good. Hubby and I had the fish tacos and we could have split it. Lot of food. Daughter had fish and chips and said it was really good.
(4)William S.
There is something about this place. The views are amazing. The food is excellent as is the service. We usually go on a weekend night and the night life after dinner is super. They usually have a wonderful band especially on Friday nights. There are some goof ups occasionally, and the grouper was under cooked. The moral here is make sure you are happy with what you get. If not tell them!! They care.
(4)Michelle S.
This has always been a favorite of ours. We even had our son's rehearsal dinner here but last week we went for a birthday celebration and everything that could go wrong did go wrong beginning with our seats. I made a reservation in advance for the patio. We were sat in a corner by some bushes. We could barely even see the water. My husband's martini was served in a wine glass, the conch fritters were less than stellar, the chicken penne was terrible and the cake they served for dessert was just not good. We did not eat it, nor did we take it to go. Will think twice about returning any time soon. So disappointing. Not sure what was wrong.
(3)Taylor K.
I ate here with my husband and a friend of ours earlier this week. She was in town visiting and we'd heard great things about the restaurant. We did not make a reservation so we were told it'd be an hour wait. I'm alright with waiting as long as there is a bar. We stood outside and got drinks from the outdoor bar until it was time to sit down. We got seated inside right next to a fish tank, which normally would not be an issue, except there were 5 kids admiring the fish tank for the majority of our meal. They were so close I had to keep moving out of their way so they could see the fish. Our waiter was rude. He was snarky when asked questions about the menu. I got the pasta with vodka sauce and it was good. My husband and our friend both got different steaks. My husband sent his back due to it being over-cooked. The waiter argued with him about the temperature of the meat. They ended up preparing a new one that was perfect. All in all, a mediocre experience. We will definitely not be bringing company there again but might try it again on a week night, just us two.
(3)Margaret P.
We went two nights in a row this past week while on vacation. Sat on the patio overlooking the marina both nights. Great atmosphere, live music, the portobello crab mushroom is amazing. Very pleased with our drinks. Excellent service, they were very accommodating with our 15 month old. Our entrees both nights were just okay but when we commented on that, our server took one of them off the bill which was very nice of him to do.
(4)Kaylee D.
Everytime I visit Florida we eat here! Such a great atmosphere and beautiful place, love eating on the water. But the food is fantastic!! I love the calamari and the filet mignon! Seriously delicious! And the waitstaff there is so nice and accommodating. I love going here! This time when we visited, it was my sisters birthday and they sang happy birthday for her and were so nice! One of my favorite places to go!
(5)Jimmy I.
Amazing atmosphere! Live band playing some soft rock and country. Parmesan Truffle Fries and Spring Rolls were good. We only ordered from the bar menu. Full bar with a bunch of beers on tap! Perfect place for a date!
(4)Mark S.
This place was really excellent! The food was great, the scenery was phenomenal. It was a little warm/humid (I sat outside) but that is Florida right? I would definately go here again!
(5)Damion D.
Excellent food and beautiful views. Parking is a little tight so I recommend using the valet.
(4)Nick D.
This place is beautiful, right on the water. Very expensive and the food is definitely not worth it, it's good but very. ... average. Takes forever to get a drink
(2)Shelley P.
On the suggestion of a coworker I stopped for dinner. I wish I would've had a reservation so I could have sat outside. But the hostess got me a hightop at the bar near the window with a beautiful view. Watching the boats in the marina and the people all around, it was a very nice dining experience. The food was superb. I posted a couple pictures here, I had pasta and the most wonderful mozzarella salad ever.
(5)Alex P.
Great location right on the water. The service, food, and drinks were all excellent. The Sailor's Club sandwich and Sailor's Warning drink were a perfect combination in the outdoor seating overlooking the water. Will definitely come back!
(4)Natalia G.
This is a step outside of downtown but you cannot beat the view. There is both and indoor and outdoor bar and live entertainment. I asked for a vegetarian option since none were listed and the kitchen made one to order. It was a big garden salad with avocado and ample veg on top.
(4)Rodney J.
Great location with a neat outdoor bar area. However, very average food for the price.
(3)Charles M.
This is a fantastic restaurant! I don't believe I have ever been at a better one. Food and atmosphere are perfection! Don't miss it.
(5)Helen A.
This place is terrific right on the water. The grouper I'd cooked perfected and large portions.. The appetizers were great we had the green fried tomatoes and stuffed portobello mushrooms stuffed with ricotta cheese.. Paired With a white wine..
(5)Rick V.
In the area for a day. Located in a large marina, you can boat in to eat. Pets welcome.. My wife had the Mahi sandwich with French fries $13.95.( good ) and iced tea $3.00( weak ). I had Fish & Chips and French fries $12.95.( lots of fries, not much fish and lacking in flavor ) and iced tea $ 3.00. The server ( Melody ) came back to check if all was well right after we were served ( by another person ) but never came back to refill our drinks even though she was close by many times. For me, that cost when it comes to tip time.

The Sailor's Return anchors one end of downtown Stuart's excellent River walk boardwalk. It fully exploits a commanding view of the Sunset Bay Marina with lavish fenestration and outdoor tables scattered across a large terraced deck. If the prices on the menu don't scare you away, it's a great place to enjoy a meal while ogling expensive yachts and the people who own them. We went for a pre-theatre dinner at 5:30 on a Thursday evening in February. As we were being seated, we noted that an immediately adjacent table had been set up for ten people and asked if we could sit at any table in a large cluster of empty two and four-tops but were told that 1) they were not available to us and 2) the large party would not be seated until 6:30. While we had a reservation which specified being seated by the water, we quietly accepted our fate. Immediately upon our being seated, our waiter introduced himself and took our drinks order. Faced with an imposing card of draught beers, my partner asked for some help. Our waiter informed her that Smithwicks, pronounced smith-wicks, was a very strong German beer. Guinness, who own Smithwicks, pronounce it smithicks, and market it as an Irish pale ale would disagree. So my partner chose Blue Moon, another German beer. I told our waiter that we would be leaving for the theatre and asked if there would be any difficulty wrapping up by 6:30. He assured us that there would be no problem. My partner started with an excellent Caesar salad, while I chose the Mike Dukakis special, an endive affair with blue cheese and nuts. Not bad. We then split a conch special, which was similar to cracked conk, but in very large thick pieces. With or without its special dressing, it was great. The table for ten was seated about six. Varied in age and uniformly well dressed, the were the kind of people who might have been called swells in 19th century New York or dudes in early 20th century Wyoming. Except for their habit of randomly reseating themselves every few minutes, they seemed pretty normal. When our waiter started taking their drink orders, we knew that we wouldn't be having a main course that night. When our waiter finally returned to our table around 6:20, we quickly ordered key lime pie, reminding him again that we needed to get out of Dodge by 6:30. To his credit, he processed the $53 bill quickly. Would we consider returning to Sailor? Sure. While we might have received a few slights, the view was great. The little bit of the menu that we were able to sample was encouraging, and the live jazz was pleasant.

This place is special to me for its beautiful view. Its a seafood place mostly and its delicious. Deserts they offer are great. Surprisingly prices are reasonable for such a fancy place. Service is perfect.
(4)Natalie O.
Views were wonderful! The food was good. I had the sailors Summer sunset dinner 3 course meal with the house salad. The balsamic dressing was delicious. I had the Mahi francaise as my entree. It was bland. I would have loved to taste more of the lemon in the sauce. The chocolate mousse dessert was very good. Would recommend getting a reservation outside near the windows when it is very warm.

The view is the only thing special here. The food was good, and one would expect it to be with the pricing. Our waiter certainly knew his stuff when it came to the menu and specials. The live music is nice as long as you are not on top of them when dining. There was a reggae band the evening our group went. Thank goodness we got a table on the farthest end of the patio away from them. Who needs to have a bass thumping through your body as you are trying to eat? As I mentioned in my tip, if you plan on dining outdoors when there is entertainment (band, dj) try to get a table as far away as possible so you can converse without shouting or straining to hear. Car valet is a requirement. I don't like that policy anywhere.
(2)Ronn S.
Food was good but very crowded and long wait for lunch. Very popular on weekends as your on the water with the florida winter weather you can't beat the location. Ronn the hole food guy ;-)
(3)Lizzy P.
Great view. Food was average. Overpriced but I guess that what you're paying for is the location. Nice place to watch the sunset and check out some swanky boats. Good live music too. We go for a drink, a snack and a sunset.
(4)Teri D.
The baked brie was TO DIE FOR and so very rare to see on a menu! The brie was so outstanding with the fresh fruit and Carr's Water Crackers. I had a mediocre sandwich that I split with Charlie that was so forgettable I don't even remember what it was, but the french fry I sneaked was good. The star here is the view and the brie!
(3)Anthony P.
Nice view but food is overpriced, lacking any culinary inspiration. You are paying mostly for the location.
(3)Brittany H.
So good! Our server was Cindy and she was great! Food was hot and served perfectly and tasted wonderful!!
(5)Joni R.
Fabulous location and menu. Watched the perfect sunset over the marina while enjoying fresh fish and fun signature cocktails. Only negative was the server: was not presentable in appearance, inappropriate table talk and rushed us thru our meal. I would return provided I am served by someone else.
(3)Cynthia P.
Great place with an outrageous view. Must sit outside . Food is good - you will love it.
(5)William R.
This is a nice place to be from the location on the water. Friendly service, a great bar, and some really good food. My personal standouts are the crunchy reuben or the tunawrap for lunch and the most amazing stuffed portobello in a beurre blanc sauce for dinner or bar dining.
(4)Les S.
Great happy hour - daily flatbread pizzas are awesome. Decent Mrs Peters Fish Dip. Scallops yummy. Fairly casual outside area that allows dogs. Great view of the pricier yachts in the area and usually pretty great sunset ( can get hot) Terribly and unnecessarily rude bartender when we brought our older well behaved and well dressed only child into bar area (ONLY because owner just happened to be present that day). Rudely told it was law in Florida ( it's not). Believe me - we aren't big into kids either and we are sensitive on offending others. The waitstaff ( other than that incident and apparently only with owner present) otherwise has been good to pretty great. Dinner items are good, prices a bit high, but, hey! It's a marina restaurant - that's what they do. You are paying for the atmosphere and it's pretty good, especially when live entertainment is present. Forget about getting a seat on holidays without a reservation!!!

I'm giving this three stars because you are paying for the view here. While the service was really good, the food was average at best. I had the sea bass, sitting on the water how could you possibly not have fish? It was mediocre in flavor but was a huge piece of seabass. It just had not flavor. My girlfriend had the herb baked salmon and it too was huge but lacked in flavor as well and yet its herb baked? Both moms had eggplant chicken which was smothered in cheese (too much) and a barely recognizable thin piece of eggplant. They both said it was tasty but they did miss the eggplant. I wound up eating dad's skirt steak which I have to admit was pretty damned good. However he ordered it medium and it came out rare. This was fine for me I love my meat rare, and it had a great sauce on it that was full of flavor. Delish. So here's my take away... Don't order seafood at this place, order anything else, because everyone says the food is good but it seems that no one orders sea food here. So next time I go I'll try something else. But realistically lets recognize a few things, the lines out the door, the prices are way too high, and the food is just ok. You're paying for the view here, for a beautiful sunset.

We went here Monday for my Birthday dinner. The food was amazing, appetizers, dinners, dessert! I have to say though that our waitress Karen was by far the best waitress I have ever had. She was so helpful and attentive and sweet and knowledgeable. I would hire her in my own restaurant. Great Job Karen! Thank you for making my birthday dinner even that more special!
(5)Betsy S.
My friend brought me here or I might not gave found it. The food was wonderful, the waitress courteous and efficient and the portions were huge. I brought half of my lunch home and had it for supper. Definitely a must when you're in the south Florida coast area!!!
(5)Rob S.
I wanted a steak something fierce, and my wife likes fish. We decided this place would have what we were both looking for. I have to say, we were glad we went here. I got a filet and the Mrs. got the grouper. It was perfect. The atmosphere was beautiful, the live music was pleasant and the food was really fantastic. The only thing that will keep me from going back very soon is the price. $35 per person, not including drinks is kind of steep, but for a special occasion it is definitely worth it.
(4)Tania V.
Great food! Everything was fresh and great tasting!!!! Waiter explained he was new, and had been training at different jobs there for one year!!! He was nervous with the dinner crowd but he did FANTASTIC---very knowledgeable about the specials, menu and the fish (where it came from). The one and only thing I don't like is you HAVE to valet park. I don't like valet. The parking lot outside the restaurant should be for self park and let the valet walk and/or use the park across the street--why should we be penalized for wanting to valet. EVERYONE doesn't like valet.
(4)Cichele F.
Food was okay, service was inattentive and generally somewhat rude. A/C barely on. Good view though...
(2)Emily S.
Tried this place out on a Sunday early evening. We were glad we did. Awesome place to watch the sunset and enjoy a relaxed dinner outside. Live music was playing at the outdoor bar. We got drinks at the bar before we sat down for dinner. Waiter was great. Caesar salad was delicious. My scallops were amazingly plump and juicy, but the dish itself wasn't all that flavorful. My husband's salmon was huge, but he wasn't too crazy about the beet salad he got with it. Overall, I don't think the food is quite worth the price, but we had an enjoyable time and we will definitely go back.
(4)S S.
After going again with friends the food was much better. Had the chicken salad on wheat which was good. Wife had the fish tacos which she enjoyed. Great view of the water.
(3)Monica C.
So, my husband and I go here mostly to be outside and enjoy the view. We like going and having lunch outside looking out at the water. And, yes, you do pay for the scenery in the prices. The fans make it comfortable. The food is about average, nothing exciting and nothing that stands out. Service has been fine, our last waiter was definitely our best so far. All of our experiences have been about the same here, so I would say that this place is a constant average, but not disappointing. I would take an out of town friend here on their visit.
(3)Donald M.
Great view and the food was pretty good . Don't get Benny as a server he acts like It's a lot of trouble for anything you ask for. My water never got filled and we had to flag him down at least four times. I hope management reads this about Benny all the other tables had the same experience and looks on there face with the terible service

This business paid to remove my bad review because I cant find it anymore and it was four months ago. Can't be trusted.
(1)Kathy K.
Parking sucks. Food and server were good but having to wait 20 mins for car annoying. They valet park cars, you have no choice , across the bridge in public parking not good you think your car is safe but it's not. No one cares. I think the valet parking company is a family member of the owner!! Why else would you treat your customers that way??
(3)Tiffany B.
Service was excellent, decorated nicely, but the food was only so-so. Especially for the prices.
(3)Shannon T.
I had a very poor experience here tonight. I brought my in laws in at 5:30pm for dinner and we were told by the hostess that we could not have dinner there tonight because they were booked with reservations. I told her we would be fine going on a waiting list and we could come back.. She told us no they were booked for the whole night?!?! I know this is not true and I will be complaining.. I was mortified in front of my out of town guests and to top it off vallet had just taken our cars which we had to stand in line again to get back.

Good food and right on the marina and dog friendly. Then why 2 stars, this place or my waitress wanted to do everything possible to get more money out of us. As if $60 for steak, scallop and shrimp au gratin, and a mixed drink isn't enough. She first tried to give my husband a beer that he never ordered hoping he would just take it so we can have given more money, then she said my husband ordered a more expensive steak and charged us more. She was not listening at all. Did she really think we would just pay the bill. She barely came to serve us also. The band was extremely loud so maybe if she put an extra hearing aid on she would have gotten our order straight instead of playing stupid and charging us more. I told her I wanted to see the manager and the menu. All she did was correct the bill, and didn't apologize. Therefore, I conclude she was guilty at trying to rip us off. This is a nice place, good food right on the water, so if you go just make sure to triple check your bill.
(2)J N.
Nice location, but the food is just ok. We ordered the mahi sandwich with fruit as a side, and the fish and chips entree. Mahi was a good portion size, but taste wise very lacking. Needed both salt and seasoning. Fish and chips entree was super oily! Plus the fish was over fried and greasy looking - pictures speak a thousand words! The saving grace for the restaurant was the nice waitress and the view.
(2)Donna B.
Had the eggplant stack for app...was okay, pretty creative looking on the plate but was just average tasting... if you like fried eggplant then go with this.... then we Ordered the prime rib for dinner...it was the biggest piece of meat I've ever since on a plate, AND it was considered the small portion...the 16oz.. It was okay, nothing great not bad though. I think the best thing about this place, was the ambiance, you can sit inside the air conditioned restaurant or sit out by the dock which has an excellent view of the river. Definitely fun with live music...there was a man playing the sax ...sounded just like Kenny G. I'd definitely return not so much for the food but for the view. Great place to people watch!
(4)Angelica P.
I can't believe that I have never left a review for this restaurant. First off, I take everyone, I mean everyone who comes to visit here. It's fantastic. The fish and chips are delicious! The salads are fresh and tasty. I love the views and needless to say that the service is top notch. If you are looking for great food with great service and ambiance, please visit this restaurant.

It was ok. Nothing special, but not bad either. Some of the food ordered in our party wasn't the greatest (the beer cheese soup was more on par with Denny's) but others were pretty good (mahi entrees and fish dip). I don't think there's a lot of consistency in the food quality, because I don't think there has to be. Why? Because this is a happening place regardless. The location is nice. The view is nice. You can walk here from downtown Stuart, you can drive or you can even pull up in your boat. They have outside seating to go with that nifty view. They have a bar. They have live music, and they bring in the crowds. They aren't consistent with food or service because they don't have to be. They will fill the place anyway. It is expensive for what you get, although eating here wont break the bank. I just don't think price is commensurate with the food quality. If its atmosphere that you want, and you are willing to overlook the rest, then this is your spot.
(3)Joel W.
Since my first review they have changed their menu. Our favorites, the ahi tuna appetizer and osso buco are off the menu. This place moves down on our list. We plan to go but probably less often.
(3)George P.
one star on food and service. Five stars on Bartenders and spectacular views. This is my once a year review. I live close so I go often. Drive to Palm Beach or Ft Lauderdale for food. Try an app or two and see if I am crazy wrong. Then stay and drink and help keep this place open.

INTRODUCTION: So they say this place has good food and is the place to go around this area? Well my family of 12 went for a late dinner and it was pretty crowded, but we didn't have trouble getting seating because we made a reservation. The waiter informed us the kitchen was closing in 30 minutes so we placed our orders as quickly as possible. I got the Pork-Chop with a demi-glaze sauce. STAFF/ENVIRONMENT: The staff was the the best part of my experience, they were very nice and were talkative. They made sure the food arrived quickly, filled up our water, and asked if everything was OK. The decor was typical of a higher end restaurant decor, although a bit dark. FOOD: There was complimentary bread that was brought out fairly quickly. The bread was hot and was fairly fresh, but barely edible. I know this is a sea-food place, but they did not need to make the bread taste like the sea with the amount of salt they put on it.. We then ordered the appetizer - calamari... sounds like it should be good at a place like SAILORS RETURN...but I guess no sailor is returning for this crap. The calamari was like eating a gummy bear that was bland and the coating fell off instantly... The entree was a pork chop with shallot mashed potatoes and roasted veggies (asparagus, carrots). The pork chop was again bland, I guess they didn't brine it or season it? I guess the salt on the bread should make up for it...I was left wondering if i should I rub the bread on my pork chop? The shallot mashed potatoes were again bland, and the roasted veggies had absolutely no seasoning! The demi-glaze sauce was OK, but did little to help this dish. My family also seemed to complain about their dishes (the blackened salmon was dry, the pasta was bland, etc.) PRICE: Despite great service and the image of being a classy place...this place completely disappointed in the food realm, with no dish that was good. I would never return to this place even if I was a sailor, nor would I ever pay $35 for a badly seasoned pork chop...disgusting mashed potatoes....and horrible calamari.

We go here for the Happy Hour drinks and appetizers which are at a reduced cost. Everything is pretty tasty except the fried green tomatoes - I've tried them 3 different occasions and each time they were not very good. The drinks are good and the bartenders are very friendly and they usually have some type of live music outside. The crowd is a bit up-itty but all in all its a great HH hangout.
(4)Barbara H.
Once again we had great service and food. Cindy our server was efficient and fun. Too bad it was overcast because it is a great stop to view the sunset.
(4)Meredith G.
We gook a party of 6 to Sailors on Tuesday night. Everything was great. This time of year, no reservation was needed. Between all of us, we tried appetizers - shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushroom caps, and crabcake stuffed mushroom. They were all excellent. Our picky-eater 10 year old loved the scallops au gratin. Two of us had the shrimp and scallop pesto and it was delicious! The mood is always nice in there, being on the marina, it's a great place to take friends and family. This was our second time there, and we will defiantly go back.

What a nice place to have a restaurant. Great views of docked boats and the sunsets are beautiful. Parking is a bit cramped but if you know Stuart, you'll realize that long range planning isn't their strong suit. The bar and the live music can be entertaining at times. Now, about the food. Sometimes it can be good and other times you'll wonder what happened. It is truly a hit or miss situation. The wait staff can be helpful and pleasant at times. Then again sometimes you wonder why they are in a bad mood. With a great location like this its a shame they can't get it right more often than not. That being said, give them a try because the view alone will make you forget about an average experience with food and service.

After deciding not to eat a late lunch at the Sailors Return when they were only serving the bar menu, we came back the next night for dinner since the full menu looked promising. The Sailors Return is located in a marina with a beautiful view of the sunset and lots of large boats. The restaurant was well appointed inside and out. Live music was playing outside which was very enjoyable. Our waitress was very good, even using my iphone (seeming to have never operated one before) to take a family picture. We started off with the eggplant stack, Manhattan clam chowder and beet salad. The eggplant stack was enough to serve as an entree with spinach, prosciutto and lots of mozzarella. All the appetizers were leisurely ate as the waitress did not rush us to order our entrees. For the main course there was the shrimp and scallop gratin, blackened grouper and chicken and pasta Alfredo. I ordered the pesto scallops which came with 9 decent sized scallops! I was told it would be served with risotto but the side was the same as the "rice" served with the gratin. Everything was incredibly flavorful. It was obvious that much attention was paid to the quality of the ingredients and their careful combination. The seafood gratin and pasta Alfredo were especially rich and delicious. We finished eating around sunset and remained on the dock for awhile enjoying the view and music. The Sailors Return provided a great dining experience that I would recommend to any locals or vacationers.
(4)Stacey A.
The food is ok, it's nothing special- it's classic food/menu cooked well. Service has gotten to rushed!! It was an embarrasment to take our friedns from Germany here. The server was rushing us the entire time. They had no idea was Martini Bianco was; seriously they sell it in Total Wine!
(2)Dan G.
This is a favorite of the folks we were visiting so they took us here for our on night out. The place was packed even on a Tuesday night. Take advantage of the complimentary valet parking since the lot is usually full. Make a reservation. Even with one we had to wait a short while for a outside table. We went to the outside for drink while we waited. We made the mistake of sitting at the table just outside, on the backside of the bar. Turns out they don't usually provide cocktail service there. But the bartender promptly sent a server who took our order a delivered the drinks in a reasonable time. I did the marguerita special which was quite good. The short wait for our table was worth it since we got one outside on the outside row overlooking the marina. Our waitress was superb, was knowledgeable, attentive, and very cheery. There is a good variety on the menu although I was disappointed there was very limited local seafood on the menu. The regular fish dishes are salmon. The catch of day was Grouper or Chilean Sea Bass. There is a good appetizer selection and creative salad options. We tried conch fritters which were a hit thanks to the dipping sauce. One was slightly undercooked and doughy. I would try something else next time. We also tried a poached pear salad with goat cheese over greens. It was excellent. Although not local, I went with the latter for more flavor and the risotto side. The fish was excellent, the risotto was thick, and the medley of vegetables uninspired. Others in our party had the crabcakes (delicious), shrimp scampi (large potion), and Chicken Cordon Bleu (his fav). The setting and service easily overcame any shortcomings on the menu or of the food prep. Definitely worth the visit if not looking for lots of seafood.

I have been going into Sailors Return for 3 years now, I go to reward myself or to bring an out of town guest and want to go have a elegant dinner with them. I have had a variety of servers but mainly have been taken care of by Brian, Lauren, and Lisa. Each time Chef David and his team take great pride in the presentation and preperation of my parties order. If ever there is a mistake they correct it, what more can you ask for? It's also nice to see that Mike is actively overseeing what is going on with the guests, and staff. I highly recommend this place to anyone who hasn't tried it. It is not cheap, but I personally believe that quality is worth a couple of extra dollars. Be sure to check out the Chocolate Cake, and Orange Cake, they're great!
(5)Terri V.
Nice ambience with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the marina. Live Music was not too loud for conversation. Lively outdoor bar area. Romantic candle lit tables with white table clothes. We came here twice while in Stuart, Florida. SERVICE: Friendly and Attentive. WINE LIST: Wine list by the glass is lacking. APPETIZERS: Fried Calamari with Marinara sauce. EXCELLENT Stuffed Mushrooms with Alouette cheese & Italian sausage. VERY GOOD, but a heavy appetizer. Classic Caesar. VERY GOOD. Rigatoni Pomodoro. with extra virgin olive oil, freshly chopped roma tomatoes & fresh basil. NOT GOOD. The pasta was overcooked. Prime Rib. VERY GOOD.

After spending a week at the Marina, I finally got a chance to have dinner here. Spending nights walking by the restaurant, it's always busy! I do not know if they always have bands there, but I did see live music playing while I was there. The restaurant seems like it's the place to be! However, it is pricey; keep that in mind. When entering the restaurant you have the option to sit inside or outside. When it's a nice day, who wouldn't want to sit outside? You get a view of the marina and see all the boats. Depending on if there is a live band or not you may get a view of that as well. The service was great. The person who was assigned to our table was helpful and friendly. Food, I personally had one of their pasta dishes with chicken and it was delicious. I really enjoyed it and found there was too much for me to finish. I also tried their Chicken Cordon Bleu which was also very tasty. I cannot speak about the wine, because I did not have any, however, remember the place is pricey so wine by the glass was pretty intense.
(4)Brandon S.
Great location and great view. Live music is usually a DJ or a solo guitarist.. Decent food and drink selection. Be prepared to shell out a bit as the location increases the prices of everything there. This is one of the best spots to chill out with good company with a drink and watch a sunset in Stuart.
(4)Belldandy M.
My husband like to go here because the water front dining is very romantic. We like to go here for lunch because the prices are good and we like the food too. I also brought my family here for lunch they had really good sandwiches. I really like this place!
(4)Justin M.
We dined at this place on a Monday afternoon recently. It seems to be a newer building as everything was crisp and shiny. It seemed somewhat busy for the hour, it was 2:00ish. The view was GREAT and if I had a boat, I'd be at the front door with at the marina. They have an outside bar with a large seating area in the bar and also for the restaurant. The decor is very well done. We enjoyed good service, with just the right attention. We never had to ask for a refill, the food came out in a timely manner, the check was presented at the appropriate time, and we weren't asked idiotic questions. I had a daily special, which was an Italian sub. It had plenty of meat and great cheese. However, there was no dressing, sauce or anything that would be considered a must have for such a sandwich. I tried it as is and was OK enough to eat. It was actually tasty, but I could tell something was missing. It came with a side, and I chose fries. They were just regular fries. 2 people in our party had the fish and chips. They both said the dish was good. My wife said good not great. The other person in our party had a soup and salad. She said the beef and lamb stew was pretty good and hearty. The prices were just a bit higher than should be, but not too bad. Each of our entrees was $9.95. I expected lunches to be about $6-$8. I'm holding back the 4th star because of price and average tasting food. I'd go back, it's just not 4 star worthy right now.
(3)Robert R.
Great great great. Great service great food great atmosphere. I'm not usually surprised and I was. Surprised at the reasonable prices for great waTerfront dining. Just brought the bolat down from NC and our first stop here. We'll be back.
