Old School....from menu to decor it is a step back to the bygone years. Food is prepared well but the menu is heavy and fairly uncreative. The service staff is ok not great. It is definitely aiming for the older crowd but not a terribly discerning older crowd.

This was our first trip to Roessler's and we will be back again...but before season. We sat in the Bistro section where the menu is a little more affordable. Our thought was that if we liked the food here we would venture into the more expensive area the next time. The food was good and the service friendly and attentive. Ted, our waiter, did a very nice job. There was a very small wedding (less than a dozen people) going on in the courtyard to gawk at while we waited for dinner. The gazebo in the courtyard looked like a lovely place to hold this kind of event. My burger was good (not great, I think hand formed taste better) and my husband's Snapper Paris was quite good. He also started with the French Onion soup that he raved over. After dinner we walked around looking at the other rooms. There are three others of varying sizes that look perfect for special occasion celebrations or dinners. We will be back and look forward to trying the other menu items.

Don't go often but over a ten year period, the same excellence endures. Food, presentation, service and romantic setting have remained constant. Savor Sarasota menu was excellent, showing off the culinary skills of the chef-owner, the third generation Roesler after his founder-father and grandfather who was a renowned chef-owner in the family's native Germany. This is definitely one of the top five restaurants in the Sarasota area.

Had an amazing Mother's Day meal there with my parents, everything that came out of the kitchen (even on a busy holiday night) was delicious! From the boulliabaise to the duck, and including a special fish dish, it was impossible to decide what was the best. Service is impeccable, the setting is serene and classy, and the desserts are "I'll just have a bite" impossibilities. Favorites were the sticky pudding and the parfait. Great place for reliably amazing food and exceptional service!

Having been coming to this restaurant since they were known as the The Flight Deck at the Venice Airport (South of Sarasota). Nothing says "exciting 1982 prom date better then watching a Cessna Piper 172 land at sunset"...ah...the good old days...enough about me. The food and serve here are always above average. The menu is frozen in time and I like it that way as a refreshing change to culinary one-upsmanship. The classics are all here. I love the crispy duck with bing cherry sauce. My parents love the schnitzel and the grouper options. The building is warmly decorated and surrounded by a lake with very nice landscaping.

Had an amazing 50th Anniversary dinner for my folks here on a Friday, in the beautiful wine room. With ages spanning every decade from teens to 70s, the menu held something for everyone, and praise for the food, from hors d'oeuvres to dessert, was universal. I give four stars due to a few missteps that I think are correctable. Even with them, though, I'd do this dinner again. Before you go, it's important to get that Roessler's is not trendy in any respect. It's old school, and reminds me a good deal of the grand traditional restaurants of New Orleans like Arnaud's, Brennan's and Antoine's. I think this is intentional, as the chef-owner was trained there. Food is classic continental fare, and it's absolutely solid. Of four courses for 16 guests, the only glitches were the boneless crispy duck, which was a tad dry but still good, and the escargot, which were prepared in classic French style, but weren't as tender as I hoped. I was thinking about those snails for weeks beforehand so the bar was set high. Those who ordered the schnitzel deemed it the best they'd had, and the toffee pudding was delicious, especially alongside the parfait. The issues we had centered around communication. I made the reservation months in advance, gave an estimated arrival of 6:30, and was told by Marilyn that the timing wasn't an issue as we had the room all night. A few days before, I let her know the arrival would be 6:45, with some photos to be followed by apps, then dinner. On arrival, though, I found our server was pretty stressed about timing. He wanted hors d'oeuvres out immediately, and dinner orders in by 7:30, and when the photos got delayed by about 10 minutes, he wanted to follow guests out onto the grounds to serve them. I didn't want this, but he was pushing for it, so I relented. I then followed him to the bar when he asked me for clarification about a drink I ordered, thinking he wanted me to come along ... but then he stopped at the bar and with me behind him, was stressing to the chef-owner about our delay, who was looking at me, mortified ... oops! Our server chilled once the orders were in, though, and became friendly and attentive. It seemed to me that he and Marilyn did not confer about our party beforehand. Had I been asked to roll back the reservation time so as not to keep the kitchen working later than they wished, I would have gladly done it rather than be pushed. In the end we left before 10, and were not the last people out the door. Marilyn also told us we could split the bill however we liked, but then the server attempted to steer us to one check only. As it was I was paying the entire bar and apps bill, so it wasn't especially complicated. Finally, we were setting up decor when he informed us an easel and projector were available ... we bought an easel just for this thing and would have been really happy to have one, but never would have thought to ask. Not a big deal, but more communication from the staff before this event would have saved most of this trouble. In the end, the guests, and especially the guests of honor, loved Roessler's, and that's the most important thing.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time, but it seemed like a place for a special occasion, since it's very, very pricey. ($500 for 4 people with wine, drinks, apps). We took our British friends there for an Easter/60th birthday celebration. Not good. Landscaping pretty, but restaurant decor is from the 50's--reminded the Brit's of their outmoded Blackpoole dining rooms. The stiff drinks and appetizers (escargots & crab cakes) were excellent. Wine was excellent. (Hence the two stars.) Entrees were not only old-timey, cafeteria-like, but not fresh tasting ($29-$37 each). The birthday lady's duck breast tasted like it had been cooked to death a week before. Dry & very well done. My steak Dianne was not only NOT flambéd, but tasted like an old slice of roast swamped with very mediocre gravy. Very heavy. The sides are so trite--a scoop of creamed spinach, next to some cooked carrots, next to piped-out mashed potatoes & some cinnamon flavored red cabbage (I loathe the smell of the cabbage & was not informed it would be on my plate). Told the spaced-out, very unfriendly waiter several times it was a birthday celebration. Also told the hostess when we booked, and asked for a little dessert with a candle to surprise our guest. Most good quality restaurants would have been able to do this. Not here. We live on Casey Key and are looking for some nearby special restaurants. Could be good, but hope the next generation takes over soon, because it's a rusting gem of a place Time to call Gordon Ramsey....

The food is wonderful and its two restaurants in one! Formal dining and a bistro that have me yes to meet all appetites! Did I mention a full bar for casual dining? Staff and waiters are friendly and knowledgeable. They take reservations so no long waits!! Highly recommended!

Went for Savor Sarasota. Had no idea this place was here. Very nice. Country Club dining - white tablecloths and room managers. The french onion soup was definitely a top 1% version! (I have ordered hundreds of F.O. soups in various places) Coconut risotto tasted great, too. The dessert was the only downfall. Not as delicious as the rest of the meal. Well, just makes it easier to stay on the diet that way (diet? who am I kidding?)

Fine dining at its best. I'd give the food 4.5 stars. The food is very good and I would eat there again. The ambiance, setting and wait staff I'd give 5+ stars. The wait staff was very well trained. It was everything you'd expect from a perfect restaurant.

Best restaurant in the area you have never seen. The Roessler family knows how to do it right. Although it is a little off the beaten path everything was amazing from the duck to our fillet. The escargot is the real deal. We even enjoyed our quirky server Mark. I would recommend Roesslers to anyone!

I haven't had a bad meal here in over 20 years...only the best food, service, ambiance and value. In my opinion, the best restaurant in Sarasota. The very experienced staff makes eye contact, and they are there when you need them. A very special place that gave me an image of a park in Switzerland. Try the veal and the crab cakes. They are the best anywhere. Family owned since day one.

This is our favorite restaurant for special evenings. The escargot is world class, better then any other restaurant either in NYC or France, bar none. Some of the specials are not to be missed, the Hawaiian Butter Fish when available is fantastic. We highly recommend it.

I grew up going to this place for SO many special occasions from first communion parties to birthdays or new years. They have the best escargot appetizer- mmmm buttery garlic goodness!! I have so many wonderful memories at Roessler's. The food, service and atmosphere has always been A Plus.

The service was very good, but the food was meh. Microwaved sides, powered mashed potatoes, and mediocre entrees. If the food were 1/4th the price it would be ok, but it's way too much for what they give you.

This was my 3rd time I have eaten at Roessler' s. The food is consistently high quality. The decor is a little too traditional for my taste, but if you sit at a garden table you don't notice the decor. The two items I would recommend is the bouillabaisse and the meatloaf. The bouillabaisse had a delicate tomato sauce with garlic and each piece of seafood had a distinct flavor, not over cooked. Friday night they had a summer special, 3 course meal for $29.00. This was a great value and the portions were a little lighter, which is good for 3 courses. First I had Caesar salad, just the right weight for the dressing, subtle taste of anchovies, you really knew you were eating Caesar. But the real winner, meatloaf, (prime beef, veal and pork), over truffle mashed potatoes, crispy onion rings on top and a nice bordelaise sauce. I haven't had meatloaf in at least a decade, so it was a nice change and was better than any meatloaf I had ever tasted. Deserts could use a little kick start, 3 flavor sorbet won the ticket. A pleasant experience all 3 times and service Excellent!

I am a huge fan of living social/groupon type deals. I often buy too many at one time, and then realize that at least one of them is getting close to expiring. I bought the Roessler's deal a while back when my honey and I were still trying to find a venue for our wedding. I had heard that Roessler's was a really pretty setting and worth checking out, and then a few days later, I saw a $40 for $20 offered online and scooped it up. I figured it would be a perfect way to check out the setting and the food at a fair price. Roessler's is known for being on the pricey side, so a Living Social opportunity made it a lot more doable for us. We made our reservation for the exact day the coupon was going to expire because we literally could not find any other day that would work being the busy X-mas/New Year's season. We arrived to find a really lovely restaurant in an unexpected place- along South Tamiami Trail among Target, Walmart etc. It was sort of off of the main street in the back, where you'd really never expect to find a pretty restaurant hiding. We were led into a large dining room and seated by a window with a view of a garden. If we weren't already totally thrilled with the beach front wedding venue we'd chosen, I could totally see having it here. Our waiter was a bit on the schmaltzy/theatrical/cocky side, but more or less entertaining none-the-less, and definitely efficient at his job. He brought us menus and water, and went over the specials for us. After seeing that the entrees were in the $30-$40 range, we decided on sharing a bunch of appetizers instead, and with a list of many appealing ones, the choice wasn't easy. We settled on 2 salads; an excellent caesar and an iceberg wedge- which was described to us as having smokehouse bacon, fresh tomatoes and a buttermilk blue cheese dressing. When it came out, smothered in way too much dressing, and having one, lonely, halved, grape tomato, we were a bit disappointed. The dressing was really outstanding with it's chunks of aged blue cheese- even though it was pretty much drowning the lettuce, but the one skimpy tomato, two sad croutons and tiny bit of crumbled bacon was sort of a let down. Next we thoroughly enjoyed the smoked salmon appetizer. It was served with toast, cream cheese, capers, red onions and sliced hard boiled egg. The quality of the fish was clearly very fine, and we polished this plate off quickly. The scallops in citrus sauce were probably my favorite dish. Huge scallops, cooked perfectly without a hint of chewiness. The sauce was buttery and fragrant and I admit to using bread to sop up some of what was left behind. The escargot were prepared in the classic French manner and were good, but not particularly exciting in their garlic herb butter. Again, however, the sauce made me want to ask for a refill on our bread basket, which I did. For dessert, we decided on the chocolate mousse. Admittedly, it wasn't the most daring or creative sounding option, but we saw a few go to the next table and it just looked so darn good. It arrived quickly and totally met our expectations. Rich and chocolatey and as light and airy as a heavy cream based dessert can possibly be. The atmosphere (mainly the outdoor atmosphere) is definitely the highlight at Roessler's, even though the food is surely very good. It would probably thrill a ton of people, but my tastes tend to sway more toward very creative, original foods instead of the classics. The crowd here is definitely older and a bit stodgy, making this an ideal restaurant to take your grandparents for a fancy occasion. As far as coming back as a couple, I would doubt it.

Very solid food. Good service. The wine list? Off the charts. Aged classics for less than auction price. 20 year old classics for new release retail prices. For wine lovers, this is more than worth the 20 minute cab ride from Sarasota.

My experience here started with waiting 6 minutes for a hostess to greet us. I figured it must have been busy as it was a Friday night. Once she appeared, she checked our reservation off a clipboard and walked down a long hallway. Must be making sure our table is ready, right? When she got to the end of the hallway, she turned back towards us still at the bar and waved at us as if we needed to catch up. When we got to the table, there were two menus for three of us and no wine list. I took a menu from the unoccupied table next to us (half the tables in the dining room were empty.). Within seconds, a waiter replaced the menu from the empty table and gave me an annoyed look. What a warm, welcoming start to the evening. I had the escargot - which was wonderful. I also had the bone in NY Strip with Oscar sauce. The food was pretty good - but the service and ambiance were a turn off. I'll probably give this place another shot but I'll lower my expectations.

This is our favorite restaurant for special evenings. The escargot is world class, better then any other restaurant either in NYC or France, bar none. Some of the specials are not to be missed, the Hawaiian Butter Fish when available is fantastic. We highly recommend it.

The service was very good, but the food was meh. Microwaved sides, powered mashed potatoes, and mediocre entrees. If the food were 1/4th the price it would be ok, but it's way too much for what they give you.
