First I have to say they were very accommodating for our large group. We called ahead and when we arrived 15 minutes early the table was ready. However, I ordered cheddar cheese on my beef sandwich and I got American nacho cheese... It was disgusting. Don't advertise cheddar if you don't have it!!! They completely ruined the sandwich. Tip: No one order cheese on sandwich. The rest of the group ordered pizzas and seemed to be satisfied with them. The servers were completely a mess. They didn't follow up on drinks for the entire table. One end was ordering beer and could get the servers attention. But everyone else in middle or other end didn't get refills. The apps came out in different times. Even my fries came after I ate my sandwich even though I ordered at same time. And a friend ordered salad with chicken and never arrived. She finally decided to just nibble on everyone else's food. That being said. I'd give them another chance. We were a large group... But I was disappointed.

Love their white pizza with spinach, sliced tomatos, feta and mozzarella cheese - yum-yum!!! Heard many good reviews from people about other pizzas.

Actually was supposed to meet a friend around dinnertime at the Miller's Ale House next door, but we found parking spots exclusive to Joey D's and thought it was a sign we should try them instead. While the place looks more like an old school diner from the outside, inside clearly features a sports theme although the tables and chairs seem pretty basic and are way too close to one another in my opinion. There are two dining rooms, each of which has what they call a penalty box area. This is where a thin tabletop with about four barstools faces a large TV and you can sit with a friend or two and kind of have a little area all to yourselves. (The server enters the penalty box to wait on you...not sure if she has to always stay for two minutes at a time.) And then there is an actual bar set off one of the dining rooms that also has tradtional bar seating and bartenders actively working that area offering drinks and everything on the menu. Everything means just that, as this is a Chicago-themed sports restaurant featuring all the appropriate sandwiches, pizza, wings, sides and even tamales. However, someone involved with this place has a soft spot for Philadelphia because there's a big portion of the menu devoted to the famous cheesesteak sandwiches. While pricing on the pizza (thin, Sicilian, deep dish) seemed a little high, everything else seemed in line with similar places and it appeared as those they offer either lunch specials, nightly specials or both. Oh, the girls working inside were also attentive and looked like they enjoyed being there. One of them told me this location had been open for "about a year" and more reading of the menu indicated this is one of three locations in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. Joey D's probably attracts more than a few people who don't want to deal with Ale House parking, waiting for a table or their lack of a pizza oven.

Joey D's! Love this place! The inside certainly pays homage to Chicago and it's sports teams for sure (I'm an Philadelphia Eagles fan) but no worries here! Lol The food yes yes yes! The Chicago deep dish is bad ass killer! Let me point out why! First the dough is fresh, thick, and you can smell the yeast! Very tasty and double stacked on this pie! I like it better than being in Chicago because they butter there deep dishes and it's too crispy! The toppings are awesome! Fresh, massive, and hand cut! We had pepperoni, sausage, onions and green peppers! The sauce nice! We ordered a medium and it was a monster! Lastly if you dislike this pizza here apparently you must have issues or you like Digiornos frozen pizzas or something! Great stuff! Also keep in mind the deep dish price includes 4 toppings (it's included in the price) so make sure you pick 4! Don't be boring or your going to rip yourself off! I'm a fan! I'll be back for sure!

I've eaten here several times and I always have the Italian beef with hot giardinere. I got it juicy with au jus on the side. The waitress was very attentive. I enjoyed my sandwich.

I have been so homesick for a GOOD Italian Beef Sandwich in Florida for many years. This is it! It was just perfect. Right up there with Portillo's in downtown Chicago. I got mine juicy, with hot jardinera and beef juice on the side. It was a slice of heaven. I can't down to Sarasota very often, but I will come here every time when I do. My search is over!

Nice atmosphere. Good service. Wings were great. Deep dish was terrible. I'll go back for the wings only.

I haven't really sampled many things on the menu other than the Italian Beef, the Polish sausage and the pizza, but all have been delicious. I'm not really a "Chicago" pizza fan being from western NY originally, and the deep-dish Chicago pie is like a massive baked casserole to me - not a pizza! LOL With that being said, the Chicago thin crust pizza at Joey D's that I've had over a dozen times now is absolutely delicious each and every time, so thought it was time for a review! We love the fresh sausage, (the pepperoni too) the sauce, and even the tasty crust is crispy just where it should be. Unlike some pizza's this one even tastes great warmed up the next day - that is if you have any left over to bring home. One more thing that helped this place earn the 5-stars rather than 4 was the excellent customer service from every person I've dealt with in my many visits. None know my name, I'm not a "regular" and I like it that way, but each and every person working there has been nothing short of always smiling and very friendly! It should also be noted that the bathroom (men's room) is spotless - which says a lot about any restaurant. I can't stand when the rest rooms are neglected! Keep up the good work Joe D's! See you next visit! :-)

My family spent the weekend in Sarasota visiting my parents, and after a week of comfort food and sweets, everyone wanted an easy take out dinner! My parents suggested Joey D's and it didn't disappoint! We split a large pizza and had garlic, mild, and hot wings. Everyone loved each item - especially the hot wings! My husband and I went to pick up the order and were drooling over all of the other menu items as we watched patrons eating. I highly recommend Joey D's!!

Love this place! Work brought me from Chicago to Tampa, and then I found this gem, Joey D's. The food is top notch, the Chicago dog is just like getting one off the street in Chicago. The cheese fries are amazing. The cheesy beef could stand up to any in Chicago, Al's ect... Have not tried the pizza, yet but it looks and smells amazing. Great spot for Chicago sports fans, Hawks, bears, Cubs, Sox, Bulls memorabilia everywhere. You can't beat this place, service, food, ambiance and the value, all top notch! Can't wait to come back!

  • Will R.

Good food and the service was great. Huge menu to look over. Cheese steaks are good so are the sausages. Highly recommend the cheese curds for an app!! Never had them before, so glad our server recommend them. I'll definitely be back!

We took a chance and tried this place out! First off, the Chicago style hot dog was amazing! I've had the real deal in Chicago, but this came pretty close! We also ordered a deep dish pizza. It took a while to come out, but it was well worth the wait! Great food, easy-going ambiance. I will definitely come back!

  • Mechaela A.

It's been a while since I've been to Chicago and had a feeling for pizza so decided to come here while in town. Delicious! We got the deep dish (just had to) and it was worth the wait. So thick we could only eat one slice each. I liked all the Chicago sports memorabilia on the walls and loved they had a Chicago beer, Goose Island, on tap.

Another night on the road means another take-out dinner. Tonight we shall dine on PHILLY CHEESE STEAK... do you hear me...PHILLY CHEESE STEAK! There's nothing more satisfying when a meal (sandwich) can stand on its own, no chips, no fries, no cole-slaw just a PHILLY CHEESE STEAK presented on its own merits. This meal passed the test, a perfect sandwich in my road warrior opinion, plus a short 100 yds from the hotel. If you're a sports nerd there's plenty of TV's.

Very bad copy of Chicago Hot Dog - bun was cold and stale was broken on bottom - no celery salt and very dry - would pass on this one

The one food I've always missed since moving from the Chicago suburbs is Italian beef sandwich. I finally found a great place. Joey D's is a must stop for anyone craving Chicago favorites, they have it all on the menu plus some other favorites for everyone. I met the owner and he was very nice and appreciative of the compliments and business. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. Chicago posters and memorabilia decorate the place.

  • Selmy B.

Tried their pizza for the first time. Medium size is 14" and plenty for two. Thin crust is crispy and the meatballs were tasty. What really destroyed my pizza was the butcher slicing into shreds of squares. Horrid had to eat tiny pieces like a kid. It was a shame for it killed my dining experience. Since the pie was tasty, I will give them another shot but no more shredded pizza for me.

  • Jimmy Y.

Had a hand tossed pizza. It was just ok. Crust and sauce was good, but too much cheese for my liking. Garden salad was ok too, nothing special but ok. Probably try some other stuff, like deep dish or sandwich some other time.

  • Letha B.

We stopped in here as we were visiting the ringling bros museum. The reviews were good, and it was this or Burger King haha! There weren't many places open. It was just ok. I had the baked ziti, and my fiancé had the ravioli. Neither of us were in love with the sauce. Mine was very watery and chunky, and my fiancé's was just too much and very chunky. The prices outrageous! The service however was decent. Won't make a special trip to go back.

Stopped here on a whim with some friends. Super casual dining. Service was slow despite being one of two other people there. Decor was more interesting than the food. It wasn't bad, but nothing memorable to make me return. I had a cheesesteak which I enjoyed. The kids had little pizzas which were "c+" quality. I always get bummed when it feels like the attention to the kids food is lacking. Though they really could have split one small pizza. Wish they mentioned how big they were. That's a plus!

This is our neighborhood fall back place when we're too tired to venture too far from home. We've dined in and used their delivery service. It's never disappointed. Large portions of well prepared food. The wife usually gets the lasagna and it always comes piping hot, as in steaming 10 min after it arrives at the table. She's not a small eater and there's always a 2nd meal leftover. I've gone all over the menu and haven't found anything they don't do well. Their "best chicken wings" is a bit of a brag. They're good, but there are better in town. That still doesn't mean I won't order them if in the mood for them. It's been a great replacement for Amalfi which was a total no go for us.

Joey D's has a great reputation to having the very best Chicago Style Pizza and Sandwiches. I Love their Italian Beef Sandwiches!! Joey D's uses only Chicago's original favorite name brands for their food. The Vienna Beef® Hot Dogs are famous to all Midwesterners, especially prepared Chicago Style, or better known as "the garden in a bun. I enjoyed their Bradenton location with all the Chicago Teams and Illinois License Plates on their Walls of Fame! In Fact, I am going to ask them if I can donate my old Illinois license plate! They usually have a Chicago or Local Sports teams (that's playing) on one or all of their many TVs that are perfectly located in the restaurant for all to watch and enjoy! *Football Sunday's is an awesome time to be there! There's nothing like an ice cold beer, a dog , slices of pizza and either football, baseball or hockey to enjoy a game day or night! Now that they are located just around the corner from my house, my family and I will be their regular customers!!! Welcome to Sarasota Joey D's!!!

Well I was told that this place had great GYROS !much toy dismay they lacked any spice like the Gyros that spin all day and soak up great flavor. This was like eating thin sliced beef to well done. Service was Great, Disappointed that three sandwiches were 26.00 dollars yet no fries offered combined with the sandwiches. My Wife's Italian Beef was full of beef she explained it as beef cooked thrown on bun with peppers added, sweet green ones but it lacked that sauce or special seasoning. I would go elsewhere for Sandwiches, I do not suggest them here, no zest in the food, very plain and lacking seasoning. Servings sizes were appropriate. Nice atmosphere food just lacked something.

Ok i always love a good pizza and beer. My wife and I love trying new spots. Pizza was good.....the bar was terrible. First off, they only serve wine or beer so you think it would be pretty easy for the bar tender, right? Nope, waited at the bar for like 5 mins before someone finally showed up to serve us while being passed by several waitresses. Then when someone does come we ask for two draft beers in which she poured two half full glasses of beer with the rest foam. After my wife muddled through the 2 inch head she quickly finished and we waited and waited to be asked for a refill but nobody returned until they brought out our to go order and we had to ask to pay the bar tab. Again waiting...then she handed me a bill for almost $10 for two half empty beers....last time i will ever go there. Shame though....i did like the pizza.

Unfortunately this was a disappointment. Please don't say you serve Chicago style pizza whne you actually serve pizza hut style pizza. The staff was friendly and the service was good. If you are thirsty the soda is good.

If you love chicago style pizza this is the place for you. This small strip mall pizza joint screams chicago from the walls to the food. If you are traveling south on I75 take Exit 207 in Sarasota Florida. A must stop for the family they even have a few tables outside for the family pup.

My wife and I were in town for a friends wedding and were determined not to eat at any chain restaurants. This place was right next to our hotel and seemed like a good bet. I haven't had an Italian beef sandwich in years, and the one here is great. Service was good and we ended up coming back two days later before leaving town for another sandwich. Definitely recommended.

Can't help but rave about this place. Not only do they have some of the best "Midwest comfort food" in three counties but they are very kind to our veterans! On behalf of myself and a local VFW post, thank you for your continued support!

  • Doug D.

This place has lots of Chicago style food and sports memorabilia. It's a great place for Chicago style pizza and hot dogs. It is very authentic. On this trip I had arrived late, 30 minutes before closing and the staff was nice and the food was great. I ventured from the usual fare and even ordered thin crust pizza. It was out of this world and the service was great. I will be back again! They have a bunch of TVs to watch your favorite sporting event. This trip it was all World Cup Soccer but I am sure you could catch lots of Chicago sports games there.

Some of the best pizza in town. You can get coupons for huge amounts of food that are perfect for a party. They have delicious salads and wings as well. We had this delivered for our at home wedding reception and everyone enjoyed it.

I really didn't care for the meal... I came down from chicago and spotted this place. All in all the food was nothing to BRAG ABOUT... And my god.. the price was worse.... never again... dont let them fool ya... Bad choice by far..

Yes! Yes! Yes! Fast service. Delicious hot pizza. Real cheese. Crusty edges. Order on Wednesdays for 2 topping 14" only $9.99. Can't beat that :)

  • William C.

It really IS that good ! Since it was my first time there, I had to try more than one thing. I had the Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie AND the Chicago Italian Beef with hot peppers. Oh, and I ate BOTH of them. Keep in mind that I grew up in South Philly. I know a good cheesesteak. While it might not stand up to Tony Luke's on Oregon Ave in So Philly, it definitely is outstanding for Florida. The Italian beef was equally good. There are SO many things on the menu that I want to try, I will be back soon to sample more options. If you like this type of food, you gotta try Joey D's.

HEY! TURN DOWN THE NOISE, WILL YA? My ears were still ringing an hour after I got home on Tuesday. THIS is why restaurant menus shouldn't be so huuuuuuuuuuuuge. When you're responsible for that many different dishes, something's gotta give. Ordered cheese dog with onion rings, since I haven't tasted either one in years. Dumb move. Instead of grated cheese, what to my bloodshot eyes should appear? Cheez Wiz! They still make that crap? Chili, by the way, was crap, straight out of the can, probably Dinty Moore- or worse. Onion rings were uniform, frozen, and definitely made by someone else at a different location. Also, booth seats were horribly uncomfortable. Felt like Rosie O'Donnell & Michael Moore had sat there for weeks. Might go back for the pizza, though, and I;ll keep you posted.

Best wings in Florida, yup I said it, Florida. Maybe even the best you ever had. I have eaten wings all over the lower 48 and Joey D's are my favorite. These aren't sickly and malnourished BW3 style wings I am talking about. Joey D's wings are MEATY, and they come loaded with some tasty sauces. Ask them mix their regular wing sauce with the garlic parmesan sauce, the best. Their hot subs are also great. They load their subs up, like it is supposed to be, and unlike other hot sub joints around town. Their pizza is also really good, but I usually go there for the wings and subs. Order wings the next time you go, you won't be disappointed. I always get good service there too.

Great lunch at the new location (used to be Café Amalfi, used to be the Italian Buffet). We had the Meatball sandwich and the Pizza Steak sandwich. We're from Philadelphia and have yet to find (in 17 years in Sarasota) Pizza Steak (a regular Philly Cheese steak with Marinara sauce) on any menu. When we've asked to have sauce added to a regular cheese steak in the past, we were looked at like we had two heads..."You mean you don't want mayonnaise?" Both sandwiches here were large, delicious and right on target (they ship their rolls in from Amoroso's Bakery in Phila.). Service was quite friendly and prompt. Only drawback is access to this location. It's at the intersection of Bee Ridge and Cattleman Rds., right next to Sarasota Ale House. The entry-way is just north on Cattleman, next to the gas station. It can be a bit hard to find for some. However, Joey D's is definitely worth looking for.

Got take out tonight. The pizza was very good. Quality toppings and a nice crispy crust. I would certainly return.

    (4)
  • Mj V.

Sorry to say disappointed. Ordered deep dish pizza. The sauce is paste and way to salty. No tomato taste. The outside crust is good but that is it. Thin cheese pizza was also just as salty. Lastly, do not order the tiramisu because it is cake and chocolate syrup with a strange taste. Not worth the money for pizza or tiramisu.

Just as good as Bradenton restaurant. Servers were friendly and taste of wet italian beef was the same. Bigger place and still all Chicago atmosphere. Would recommend it to my friends in the area.

    (4)
  • Miranda B.

Less than impressed. Dined with my kids, had calamari and Stromboli. The calamari was over cooked and mostly over-breaded rings, the Stromboli was undercooked (my 12 year noticed this). Kids soda was full price at almost $3...won't be back here anytime soon.

Great, Great, Great...... Loved the spaggiitti and meatballs. Great pizza, also tried the Italian beefy cheese sandwich. Loved it. Just ordered takeout for tonight, two orders off spaggiitti and meatballs...

I should have reviewed Joey D's on my previous visits which were enjoyable. Tonight 1-19 was disappointing. The caprese salad while good sized arrived with tomatoes that were almost green. I ordered 2 Chicago dogs, sent one back because the bun was hard. Obviously not steamed, the replacement was better but not steamed. The "Chicago " tamale was also not steamed, crusty on the ends, I'm thinking too much microwave cooking. I'm going to give them one more try, we'll see

Pretty unfortunate. We called for delivery one night, they've delivered to us several times previously. It's always been great food, no issues. This particular night was terrible. We had to repeat address and phone number to the woman several times as she kept asking for the spelling to be repeated. This is not a big deal as our address is frequently mis-heard- it really is a terrible street name. After the third time of repeating the address, she stated she got it. Had to repeat the phone number twice. Ordered food. Over an hour later we called wondering where the food was as we were quoted a 40minute time. The woman who answered the phone said there had been a problem with finding our address. She said the manager was aware and wanted to talk with us. A man came on the line. I asked if he was the manager. He said he was the delivery driver. He said that because we had given the wrong address he was unable to deliver the food. He said that he tried calling but we had given the wrong phone number as well. At this point, I asked for the manager. He continued to say that had we given the correct address and phone number, the order would've been delivered with no issues. The manager came on the phone, I told her that my issue was not with the girl who took our order, nor with her (manager), but with the delivery driver who was rude on the phone. He basically stated that we ordered food and insinuated that we didn't know our own address or phone number, when clearly there was a communication error that was never resolved initially- being that we had to state our address and phone number multiple times. They did however charge our card for the total amount. The amount was refunded. They did offer to place a credit on our account, which I declined, however she stated she wanted to anyway. I thought that was going above and beyond and was impressed. It's been a few weeks since that unfortunate incident, and so hubby and i decided to give them another try. He called and "they don't deliver to our address." Wow. Food is good, but not that good. I'd rather go somewhere that wants our business. Anyone want our $40 credit?

Really enjoyed the food and service at Joey D's. I am from the Chicago suburbs and Joey D's is a great place that makes me feel at home. Tommy the owner even made my wings EXACTLY the way I like them. They went above and beyond for me. I will be a frequent and loyal customer. I am recommending this restaurant to EVERYONE!!

I have ate here twice now. Food is great. The first time we had the stuffed pizza. It is huge, one piece is a meal, bring help! We also ordered some wings and they were ok. Our second trip I tried a calzone. It was really god although it was lite on the ricotta cheese. My wife had the Philly cheese steak and said it was great too. The kids had kids pizzas and they were huge too. Bring your appetite. Oh and the beer is cold too!

....As good as it gets for pizza in this area. Great family atmosphere for going out and really having a fun meal. Its relaxed, good service and you can taste the quality in the ingredients. Have I had better...maybe...but that was in Jersey !!! Sure wish they would open up the back drive up window..now that would be full service for a quick grab and go.....I could guess a 20% increase in orders.....!

    (4)
  • Jan W.

First, if you're going to charge 9 bucks for wings, they ought to come with celery. Second, I think $19 is high for a 14" pizza as is $2.50 for "pop." The wings were big and the gyro was decent. I'm not from Chicago, but Joey's doesn't make me want to rush there for the food.

  • William R.

First time here and did takeout. Limited parking is the reason the review is not five star (for takeout). Hostess opened the front door for me and greeted me before I got in. The takeout counter had two people, one stepped up and greeted me as I approached. The pizza was ready ON TIME. And piping hot. And what I ordered. A good experience. By the way, the pizza was delicious, well spiced. Agree with other reviewer that it was cut too much. I'll go back.

Great Italian beef, not overcooked, tons of flavor, great season fries, served fast, very hot, great staff, In N Out for lunch in under 40 minutes. can't wait to stop back again when I have more time to order a chicago deep dish pizza

Best Italian Beef outside of Chicago! Gyros are horrible. Used jerky meat it was so dry. But the beef, well you have to try it!

Stopped with Hubby to get a bite for take out. The two girls by the register did not acknowledge, greet, or speak to us. We stood there for over 10 minutes without any acknowledgement. We left.

Went for lunch and ordered the Chicago Stuffed pizza. Wow... Took a while to prepare but was great in every way. Looked good, served hot, thick and delicious. I know good Jersey pizza and this one was close, and as a stuffed pie one of the best I have eaten. Way to go Joey D's. I will be back to try the wings...

Better come hungry ! Stopped in for lunch and had the Italian beef sandwich, fries and pop. Just like in Chicago without the cold weather ! Very reasonable prices too. I'll be back !

At this point I don't care how good the food is. The one in Bradenton has way better customer service. Told us we could get a table at 7:45 with no problem and for a large party they would take a reservation (days ahead of time), day of they confirmed the reservation and while we were driving up they confirmed it was not a problem. We get here and they say they have no idea about our party and they never take reservations. They do nothing but give us attitude and make us wait. If it weren't for our friends birthday and him wanting their food we would have been out the door. After 45 minutes of waiting and us sitting at the waiting bar, we asked about our table. Again they acted like we had just walked in and they knew nothing about a large party showing up. We decided to just order and eat at the waiting area. They then told us we couldn't order food in the waiting area and would have to wait at least an hour for a table. We ordered any way. The waitress we finally got was the nicest one we dealt with all night. Customer service for large groups apparently doesn't exist at this place.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country.
