First of all whoever posted that picture with the scary man as you open up this yelp page needs to take down that picture it's very scary lol. OK now for my review. I can always rely on geckos for my late night food fix. Their food is pretty consistent. The bison meatloaf was great only that as I forked into the middle of the meatloaf and it was super cold almost frozen I had to send it back but they did fix the problem and it ended up being really good.

My wife and I have eaten here 20+ times. Hill View location . The food is very good and prices are reasonable. The service is always good. I would highly recommend going here if you are looking for a fun atmosphere and great drinks while watching sports or really just need an honest meal.

I ate here twice and food was good. Nice atmosphere and good beer selection. I liked the hamburger and the pastrami sandwich. Had a really good Sarasota beer, had peanut butter flavoring. Sorry can't remember it, but it was also good.

Drove by looking for a place open on a Sunday night. This place was open. Six of us showed up at 10. Atmosphere is fantastic. Waitress(s) were friendly and super helpful. All six entrees were great. Black bed Tilapia, BBQ shrimp flatbread, shrimp fettuccine, wings - all was great. Thanks again Carly! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Originally gave a 4, but after discussing with family, increased to 5.

Never have had a bad meal here, but I come back and back for the Tuna Nachos! Chips topped with seaweed salad, then seared tuna and a yummy wasabi sauce...plenty for a nice lunch. Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff.

Another location of a restaurant that I had little hopes for that absolutely wowed me. I had the bison meatloaf and it was very hearty over the mashed potatoes and vegetables. Seasoned perfectly with a hint of black pepper and the savory gravy pulled it all together. The meatlo was a tad dry but because of it, it really sponged up the gravy. Good clean eats. The hill view area is really nice so if you can get a table outside to people watch, do it. Friendly waiter.

First time at this Geckos. See review of the other Geckos for my feelings about this restaurant group in general. Love It. This one feels a bit more upscale. Same Menu. maybe a $1 more expensive on some items probably to pay the rent but the entire ambiance is that of a nice bistro. The servers and managers are all friendly and helpful. For an outstanding experience request Lindsay or Chloe. On the whole the Geckos chain does everything right and this location makes for a nice choice when you want the same quality food but want to feel like you are eating a much more expensive and well appointed location.

THE TUNA NACHOS WERE SO AMAZING! I highly recommend getting those. Great, fresh food and lovely staff. They also have a really good beer selection if you like that sort of thing. I can't wait to go back and get the nachos again!

A great neighborhood grill & bar. The atmosphere is very nice and there's a TV everywhere you look so, it's a great place for watching sports. Their bartenders mix up some of tastiest drinks and they have a very large selection of liquor and beer. The food is awesome for a casual grill & bar. The homemade chips are delicious and they are the perfect thing to munch on while having a couple drinks with friends. The atmosphere is a little loud, but it's not loud enough to be annoying. Drinks and food are very reasonably priced.

I traveled here for a friends wedding dinner. Seems to be a popular resturant, since it was packed with customers. The chef that night was pretty cool because he made our large party a few fish specials; fish dip, grilled, parm crusted and fried fish appetizers. Pros Multiple staff waited on our table 2 for 1s on drinks Friday night large menu sweet potato fries were awesome large portions Cons It was pretty loud on Friday night and I had to shout my order to the staff there were so many people waiting on our table, orders took awhile or were forgotten Very dark atmosphere watered down 2 for 1 drinks from the bar

I came on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I loved the decor and the craft beer selections. It was a nice place and I would go again. My food was pretty good -- I ordered the shrimp club. The presentation was interesting -- four pieces of the sandwich covered in fries. Our service was awkward. We had a different person bring us different parts of our meal throughout the lunch [ one person brought the beer, another brought the food, another brought us water, etc. ]. We weren't sure who really was our server.

I visited my parents this past weekend and after a day at the beach we were all craving wings. My dad is a wing enthusiast and says that Gecko's is one of his favorites. He typically orders the hottest wings available, but said that Gecko's is pretty hot so he order his wings medium and dips them in the hot sauce. I ordered the mild wings and they had a kick to them, but didn't make me sweat (which is just how I like them!). I was also impressed by their beer menu. Overall had a good experience.

I've been to Geckos on Hillview, many many times for their late night 2 for 1 premium drinks and their food. I work in the restaurant industry and it's nice to get out of work after a long dinner shift and enjoy the fresh tuna nachos, crispy wings, cheesy mozzarella sticks, healthy hummus plate or BBQ ribs. Every dish I've had has been delicious and the bartenders, Ryan and Neil in particular are super friendly, remember and get to know their guests and keep my fiancé and I coming back. There aren't a lot if places that serves food late night in Sarasota and I've truly enjoyed all of my experiences there. Well done to a reliable neighborhood bar!

This is the third time I've eaten with family and friends at the Hillview Gecko's. I've ordered French onion soup each time. You would think I'd have learned my lesson by now. The first time I ordered it, it came out perfectly. The cheese was thick and covered the top of the cup and overflowed perfectly around the edges. It was browned and delicious. I sent my complements back to the kitchen. I've ordered it two times since. It has been horrible each time, even after I told the server exactly how it should be done. It's not rocket science. The second time, they attempted to make it right, but succeeded only in plopping more cheese into the middle of the bowl. It didn't even come close to going over the edges. Finally, they made it all over again and it came out nicely. Tonight, I ordered it again, as did my wife and two friends, and again, even after I told them of my previous problem, it came out badly. They attempted to correct it, but again, only made it half-way good. Additionally, there were very few ONIONS in the soup!! It was more like onion broth.....all four bowls. I spoke with the manager, but he really didn't seem too interested and while he did offer to make another bowl, I didn't have the time. We all ordered four 1992 salads and while they were tasty, none of them came even close to looking uniform. Now, I realize that fresh food does not always look "uniform" and I don't expect it to. It shouldn't. But please, give me a break! Four salads and one had way too much lettuce, another had hardly any cheese, while another lacked much turkey and ham. I will not return to Gecko's. It saddens me, because they do have some very good food there and the servers rock. They are gracious and friendly. The KITCHEN is in desperate need of training. Managers of Gecko's! Take note of this. Teach your cooks how to prepare foods and to take an interest in their work.

One of the best restaurants in town!! Locally owned and run, with great food and service. There are several food selections to choose from, and the restaurant it's constantly updating. And there are plenty of alcohol and beer selections, including craft beers courtesy of JJ Taylor and Gold Coast Eagle. If you're looking for a place to go whether it's with the family, for a couple, on a date, or you just want to get together with a group of people to watch a game, then this is the place to go!! And Gecko's is the official game watching party location for the Sarasota Seminole Club. You can watch every FSU game at either the Clark or Hillview locations on all of their HD TVs!! #GoNoles

Geckos for me is one of those "go to" places that I know I can always go for a great burger and a craft brew. Their homemade chips are my favorite ever. If you mix that with their homemade ranch, you pretty much have a homerun in my book. There isn't much that I've had here that I can say that I did not like. I have tried everything from The Mediterranean salad to chicken pasta to pizza to an amazing burger. I have never been disappointed with any of these dishes. One of the main reasons why my husband and I love to come here is not only the great food but also their large selection of beer. They always have very good and you need choices of craft brews on draft which makes for two very happy people.

Awesome food...always has been great! We like the Chef Salad and Cajon Pasta-extra spicy and with penne pasta instead of linguine.....you will not be disappointed! Also, homemade chips are the BEST!

So few places have kitchens that are open late in this area. I'm very glad I followed Yelp's "Open Now" filters to here. I showed up 30 minutes before closing time and they were happy to serve me. The bartender was kind and engaged me quickly. I let him know I needed food to go and he handed me a menu quickly. I ordered: Spinach salad with chicken (no cheese) - Dressing on side, just in case Penne pasta with vodka sauce w Salmon Both were delicious. The salad dressing is a thick non-dairy vinaigrette that tastes like it has too much HFCS in it, but it was fine. The vodka sauce, unfortunately, was a dairy based sauce. But it tasted good. The salmon was made well and was also delicious. The pasta was also made well. It was just the sauce I had to back away from. Request and note for management, should they read this. When one question arises about dairy, please have waiters note that perhaps this is because of a lactose intolerance or milk allergy situation. In which case, they should suspect all dishes with care. I did my best by reading the menu and it was my fault for not researching ingredients in the vodka sauce...I assumed it was tomato, vodka, and oils, but the menu also does not indicate dairy.

Chose the Hillview location because I used to frequent this restaurant/bar for craft beer nights and major sporting events on the TV's. This evening I was more than unhappy with the service, management, and overall experience. Our waiter, Lynn, started everything off great. When it came to checking on us, drink refills, friendliness, and lack of being fully engaged with us as customers, this is a huge fail. When the time came to get some to-go boxes and the check, we searched for our waiter by looking around the room. We could only find a handful of tables and the manager and a bartender on their phones. I am pretty sure I won't be back for awhile. Very disappointed. Especially since I am in the industry.

Everything there is very decent but unfortunately, nothing is Great ! I gave them the extra 1/2 star because most of the staff are friendly and very helpful. I just wish the food was just a little better. Ordered a burger today medium . . . It came out well done. One of my friends ordered the Reuben, it was more greasy than a Reuben usually is. Typically, the soups are half decent but never great. It's just a little more effort that would make it really good. As I said, I feel I'm giving it 1/2 a star too much but I still kind of like the place. Very good beer selection.

Waited 30 minutes for a BURNT cheeseburger. The place was 1/2 full and the untrained staff just ignores you. Please don't go here it's just embarrasing.

Me and my two friends sat outside. No service for 15 minutes. Then we go inside to the bar to get our drinks then the waitress comes inside and asks us if we want a drink when we have already ordered drinks from the bar and tell me her manager was supposed to come ask us. Then the manager comes out and asks us if we want to order food literally throws menus on our faces. when I tell him we sat outside for 15 minutes with no service he continues to argue and be condescending. it was almost like he wanted to fight me and I am the paying customer!!! I saw numerous other tables that were served and ours was the only one that was not white. The manager who oversees outside table is prejudiced at best or arrogant at worst. The irony is I wanted to try the food and was hungry but the way the service was and the manager who oversaw the outside area who should never work in the service Industry treated us I lost my appetite.

Stopped by Gecko's for a meal after a day of drinks on the beach. Needless to say, we came hungry. We started by asking the waiter what the 2 for 1 happy hour was and were told that it was for liquor and wine, but not beer (what?). I went for a margarita up front, which was a bit too sweet for me. We went for a starter of the nachos. They were so good and honestly the four of us were pretty full after the appetizer. I followed that up with the buffalo chicken pizza. It wasn't buffalo enough for my style so I asked for an extra side of buffalo sauce, which kicked it up a notch. The atmosphere is nice in here and it seems like it would be a good place to check out a game. All in all, I would try Gecko's again if I were in the area.

LOVE the atmosphere at this restaurant/pub. The wall behind the bar is done in brick, high top tables in the bar area, and tons on TVs for the sports junkies. Service was top notch; could not have asked for a more friendly server and the main thing...our drinks never went empty. Food was good, group had a mixture of pasta, wings, homemade chips and the pot roast sub. Everyone's meal was something we would order again. Would highly recommend checking this place out!!!

This place is great!! Went late on Sunday after flying in late, showed up 30 mins before close and they were amazingly gracious and helpful! Manager even came out to help us find directions to fun places for our stay. Great food, reasonable prices, cool atmosphere and great staff!

We had a good experience here. I love the balsamic and blue cheese chips (I don't think that's the correct name but that's what they are). They are amazing. I ordered a Buffalo Chicken sandwich which isn't on the menu but they have wings and they have a fried chicken sandwich so they were able to make it for me anyway. It was very good! My husband has the Cleveland Beast which he said was the best roast beef sandwich he has ever had. Service was good. We couldn't see the TV's for the football game and for a place like that I feel like every table should be able to see at least one TV. So that was the only downside.

I have gone to Gecko's a few times. I have always had great service at the bar and enjoyed everything I have ever ordered. Being a vegetarian, I typically change the menu which can annoy the bartender but not here. They understand and except my needs then make the changes necessary with a smile. There are two things which prevent me from giving this place 5 stars. First, the televisions behind the bar are small (probably 32" instead of 55"). Second, they do not have NHL Center Ice.

Good old fashioned pub food. (If your idea of old fashioned is slightly Caribbean) great wait staff. Everyone was super nice. It's not fancy but you can't beat the price. If you're looking for a great spot to catch the game without all the drunken hooliganism or you just want a beer and a really good burger this is a great pick.

Looking for late lunch on a Sunday at 3 pm. Football game on so was noisy but service was great. Very friendly and quick. Good food. Pizza is good and I love the sweet potato chips.

Came late for superbowl and only had to wait 1hr+ to get seated. Even with extremely packed the service was good and so was the food. The Tuna Nachos were incredible.

This Gecko's has a wonderful atmosphere. It's in a single room with a tall ceiling, brick walls, and dim lighting. Sound resonates throughout the room, so it always feels lively, particularly when a game is playing on one of the big screens. They also have sidewalk seating, but I wouldn't recommend sitting out there because it's along a roundabout and you will constantly wonder if one of Sarasota's many elderly drivers will jump the curb. The staff is really good and all seem to genuinely enjoy working there. The food is actually laudable. It's no gourmet restaurant, but it's very fairly priced and well portioned. Similar to Applebee's and Chili's, wells and wine at Gecko's are always 2-for-1. But unlike those places, Gecko's is locally owned, more customer driven, and in a better setting.

Great atmosphere but mediocre food and probably one of the worst Margaritas I've had. First one had club soda in the Patron Margarita (made no mention of this on the drink menu) so returned it, second try - it looked like a screwdriver and tasted like all OJ. Not what you expect for a $9 Patron Margarita. After sending the second one back I just ordered a Patron shot. The only saving grace here was the manager who comped me the Patron shot. No consistency on Premium drinks doesn't make for happy bar customers!!

Love their pastrami on pretzel bread. BLT and homemad chips are good too. 2 for 1 drinks...what more can you say. Great happy hour spot before hitting dinner at the Pacific Rim.

This place is deceiving from the outside... Kind of looks lame outside but when you walk in you're like wow this is a nice place! Food was excellent, our waitress was fast and friendly and the beer list was decent. They have lots of TVs if you're watching a game too. I'd recommend the ahi nachos-delicious

Gecko's was a pleasant surprise in the somewhat droll town of Sarasota. Very upbeat, fun, young atmosphere but friendly for families. We ordered the ahi nachos, excellent flavor and the tuna was prepared just right and not overcooked. I split a classic hamburger, which tasted homemade and fresh. The service was pretty good. The hostess could use a little work with organizing. A little on the loud side, so don't come here if you want a relaxing evening.
