University Parkway location. We are locals and go to only the best restaurants in the area as there are so many. First time at this new location and this is how it was. As we walked in the lights were so bright inside that it strained your eyes. (eventually turned down and there was a small applause) Very cold inside. ( Joked with my wife to look around and see people wearing jackets.. LOL I said those are the ones that have been here before. It was 78 degrees outside.) Garlic bread was a soggy mess terrible. The bruschetta we had was just like the garlic bread soggy mess. The topping tasted good though but no bread to put it on. I had the Gyro which was like eating strips of beef jerky almost as if someone didn't care in the kitchen or management had no care in the world? Not sure. We talked about going back but never will after this experience. If you can't make a proper piece of garlic bread then why are you an Italian restaurant? My family bet that this place will close it's doors come this summer. Locals will not tolerate this kind of place.

First let me start by saying I have eaten more pizza than 99.9% of the people on this earth. I love pizza, its my favorite food, I have competed in multiple pizza eating competitions (yes i won), when I travel, I search out the best pizza place in that city. I have had pizzas from the best places in NYC, Chicago, San Diego, Boston, and of course from the birthplace of the pizza Italy. Demetrio's in my opinion is the best pizza in the WORLD. It is amazing. Perfect crust, amazing cheese mix, perfect tomato sauce blend. I also recommend the Greek Salad. This salad is so good, I served it at my wedding. (Yes it was a hit). I prefer this salad over any other salad in town. I also have eaten here enough times to try other things besides pizza and can say that the pasta dishes are also excellent. Great and attentive service is given every time. Pleasure to eat at Demetrio's.

New to the area and have been there a few times now and at this point I can say I'm addicted. Love this place, amazing food and great service every time.

We've been eating here since I was in 3rd grade so I'm probably a little biased but they have really great Greek food and deep dish pastas. Their pizza is great as well. Our family faves are the Demetrio's special pizza and deep dish shells with meat sauce. Greek salad and garlic toast are really good and they are included with the dinner plates. I really enjoy their eggplant parmigiana-it's pounded very thin and covered with lots of cheese!

Demetrio's is a wonderful Greek and Italian restaurant, with the best pizzas, gyros, salads, ravioli, moussaka, baklava....okay, I haven't tried anything at Demetrio's that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. My kids love it too. Great food, casual dining.

Calzone was delicious! Pricing is fair. I am only disappointed with their marinara sauce, it's a little too sweet for us.

If you have never eaten here, you are missing out. Food is amazing!! Pizza, baked shells, Greek salad. Prices are extremely affordable. Staff is very attentive. Come here anytime I am in Sarasota. My favorite restaurant in all of Florida!!

Great pizza! The crust is not too thin or too thick! My family orders take-out pizza the night after Thanksgiving (once we're sick of all the leftovers), and Demetrio's never fails to meet our expectations. I did visit Demetrio's a few years back and dined in; however, I'll have to visit again as I don't remember what we ate!

There's no place like home.... I had to click my ruby red heels for five years before I finally found pizza like home. (Philly) the pizza here is perfectly yummy! However I do notice a difference in the other locations which are not as good as the original one but still beat all the competition by far. Get extra cheese. It's worth it!!

Stopped for lunch. Got a bowl of vegetable beef soup. A little too salty and I had a hard time finding any beef. Got a sub with mordatella, ham and salami...Very tasty

Went back here a couple of more times. Thought the pizza quality was very consistent. Actually, I think it's the most consistent in the SRQ.

I think it's safe to say: Demetrio's is definitely one of my top 5 Sarasota establishments. When it boils down to it, quality eateries are really about two things: * delicious * consistent * hospitable Demetrio's hits all three! I've been here several times and tried several menu items and it's always good! After nearly a half century, my mother has found her favorite white-sauce pizza. And, they don't mess around when it comes to garlic! Their lasagna is also really tasty. Also, the service is very good-natured. On my last visit, I asked if they wouldn't mind cooking my pizza a bit longer; our server was very cordial and attentive about it. I also recall she was very accommodating about helping us get a few different types of pizza into a box with paper separators. And, this place is a GREAT value! Plentiful portions, for a surprisingly lower cost than you'd think. So, whether you're pining for pizza or just looking for some great Italian cuisine, Demetrio's is definitely worth the trip!

I'm a pizza snob and this is one of the very few places in Florida that actually has good pizza. I'm from New England so I'm unsure of what pizza I'm supposed to stereotypically like but this is it! I don't think it's expensive. Then again I don't eat cheap crap like Dominos. The crust is thick and I order it well done to ensure crispness. Lots of sauce, lots of cheese. They load on the toppings which I actually don't really like so I stick with plain. I usually get delivery or take out. Can't speak about the service but it's always ready 25 minutes after I order and I'm happy with that!

Amazing shells and meat sauce, love the Greek salad. Good atmosphere, affordable prices. The pizza is also very good, just depends what you are in the mood for. Have been coming here since I was a kid and has been consistently great through the years.

Best Greek-style pizza in Sarasota. Really fine Chicken Parmesan. Good Spanokopita. Average Greek salads. Friendly service.

Yum! I love Demetrios. My favorites here are Spinach pie, pizza and/or greek salad and I love them all! If I have someone to help me eat it I sometimes get all 3!! The pizza is cheesy with just the right amount of crunch to it and the spinach pie has lots of crispy phyllo dough with yummy spinach and feta inside. Great.. Now I want to eat Demetrio's pizza and spinach pie for lunch and I'm half way across the country.

We are in town for the week and the place was recommended by locals as having the best pizza. We ordered a plain pizza and it was just ok. If you are from the New Jersey area where there are great pizzerias all over the place you won't be very impressed.

I've actually never had the pizza but I have had a meatball sub which was pretty good and shells & cheese pasta dish. Although this serving was big enough for a family of four, I managed to finish it because it was so good. Excited to try the pizza someday.

They offer decent pizza. The edges of the crust are nicely caramelized. The sauce, in my opinion, is a little bland. I'm from Chicago and am partial to Lou Malnatti's. Prices are very reasonable. You can get a Greek salad (popular item on the menu) for two for just $7.50.

very nice people always smile at you and serve quickly hot, tasty Italian food large portions. excellent salads, a small salad is 1.25 and large enough for me piled with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, peppers, greek black olives sliced or with pits and shaved cheese on top with dressing of your choice.......all for 1.25, not like the salads and service described below.....I eat there 3 times a week for 4 years, mostly the lunch special of soup, salad as described, a chicken parm plate or veal parm plate under $9.......

I was born and raised in Sarasota, FL and recently moved to Portland, OR. Every time I come home, I demand that we eat here at least once. I still haven't found a place with such good food that tastes home-cooked, but is from a restaurant, in any of the cities I travel to for work (all over the west coast...) We always, always get the "Baked" shells, which whether you get them with butter, meat sauce, or spagetti sauce, are delicious. The pizza isn't necessarily the best I've EVER had, but it's so yummy that I can't help but want it every time I come home. I enjoy good food, no matter what kind of establishment, but the fact that we are greeted by the owners every time we come in (it's either the older father, or the younger son) and it's not some cheesy chain restaurant, makes me cherish every trip to this restaurant. The prices are fabulous and the food is delicious. Highly recommended for locals and tourists alike!

Got takeout tonint from new University location. In a word: awful. Out of three things we tried to order. Staff at take out was rude. Tried to give wrong order. Handed salad with styrofoam box open, no bag. Response to problems was "we're really busy." Too busy to put styrofoam in a bag? Oh yeah. The food. Bread on meatball sandwich was soggy. Pizza was greasy and pasta was overcooked. Doubly disappoint because the Sarasota location is great.

We came here after snorkelling a couple weekends ago we were totally dehydrated and starving when we arrived. The service was super slow and there was no one in there. They were out of ravioli which made me sad so we ended up with a pizza. The pizza was delicious and I'm glad we ended up with it. Overall good pizza place not the greatest at customer service. Also no sweet tea... Brandon was sad... And as always wants me to add that ... It's Florida people here like sweet tea why don't you have any?

Best pizza! Demetrio's was recommended to us by a friend and they did not disappoint. Their pizza is delicious. The crust is flavorful and just the right thickness. It's one of our "musts" when visiting the area. We've always called in and brought it back to our resort. The pizza's too good, so we haven't tried anything else. FYI I would consider myself a foodie and despise bad pizza. My pizza opinion can be trusted! Try Demetrios!

We thought as they advertise as Greek and Italian we would try a Gyro Plate with spaghetti on the side as that way we could sample each cuisine. As for the gyro: the pita was fresh and tasty but the meat was bland, but we hope the Tziki sauce would pep it up. But sad to say, it turned out to be very smooth but really didn't have much of a taste. The spaghetti was average and a bit too mushy for my taste. It's obvious this is a popular place as both the parking lot and inside were packed. Maybe I expected more but we were disappointed. And be careful navigating the parking lot. The night we were there a lot of pickups and SUV's filled the place making parking a bit tight.

I eat here with my buddy at least once a week. A truly family owned place. The pizza is great and the shells and pasta are great for the kids. The servers have been here for years, that says something about the place.

Fantastic lunch special. The deal here is certainly the lunch. This is a Greek / Italian menu and the cooks are neither. The staff is efficient and the meals are good for one. Some dishes are larger portions but most are good to eat in the one meal. The pizza is thin, greasy and very tasty. Dinner portions are exactly the same as lunch portions except you are paying more for there are no dinner specials. Parking is on property but can be tricky some times. My hubby loves the eggplant and the red tomatoe sauce. I like most of these dishes with the sauce on the side, so I can eat the meal without being tomatoe overwhelmed.

The pepperoni pizza was A-OK! I give it 4 out of 5 stars, easy. It was greasy and delicious, and the cheese was good too. I will say that as it cools, it gets kind of clumpy, so it's best served hot, the first time.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
