This is a wonderful local restaurant that seems to make everything from scratch and we have never been disappointed. Most days they are open for breakfast and dinner only. See their web site for hours at demarcosgrill.com The breakfast menu has all of the things you would expect plus crepes, many (15+) omelet styles, and biscuits and gravy. But their homemade corned beef hash is off the chart - never had it so good! Four of us recently went for dinner and once again enjoyed everything. Most dinners include a choice of homemade soup and salad along with a side. The dinner menu is Italian based and includes chicken, veal and seafood with most entrees in the $15.00 to $20.00 price range. A nice choice of wines was offered at a special of 50% off per bottle. Everyone was happy. This is a small restaurant (maybe 40 seats) with a longtime wait staff so the service is friendly and prompt. They attract a more mature crowd seeking out excellent quality preparation at very fair prices. A great way to support a local independent business. Closed on Monday.

The outside matches the inside, not impressive. The chairs and tables were uncomfortable. It was a nice touch for them to give us new years ever hats. The planned menu was a decent variety of choices but it ruined their chances on selling any appetizers. After the painfully long wait to get 2 ice teas, a soda and water our server decided to come back later for our order. The bread was sub par and I usually expect Olive oil rather than butter at an Italian restaurant. Soup was excellent minus the false advertising of shrimp. Next, the big event, oversized bland pasta with very fishy grouper, shrimp and scallops. Edible and filling but underdeveloped. My girls veal parm was tender and cooked well but the low quality cheese used again gave the dish a lack of seasoning, finally after begging for more ice tea they brought the canolis filled with cake icing. For a grand total of 67 dollars and change my hard earned money could have been better spent elsewhere. I'm sorry to say but it is time revamp or retire.

We are regulars at DeMarco's, every couple of months or so. The food is very good. Portions are more than adequate. The people are friendly, and service is also very good. Prices are reasonable, and the value is excellent. The Specials Menus has particularly great selections, well worth the cost. Highly recommended.

No cars in the parking lot and not one person the dining room at 7:30 on a Thursday evening should have been my clue, but with such good reviews I thought It would have been great. We ordered some cannolis to go and were very disappointed to find it was white cake frosting inside the shell. What a scam!

Been coming here for years, but it had been at least 2 since my last visit. Seated right away for our reservation for 5. Restaurant was pretty empty for a Tuesday night, but as we learned it just filled up later. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. Disappointed they wouldn't let us split a dinner, so we ordered a cheap appetizer. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was delicious and large enough for a dinner entree. One diner said it was the best veal piccata he had ever had. Shared the shrimp and scallop Alfredo, which was good but not excellent. A good Italian meal, with excellent service. Give it a try,

We had just made a round trip run to Fort Myers and had intended to eat at a nearby French restaurant which turned out to be closed on Monday evenings. We started looking for someplace to eat and was attracted to DMarco's because of the lights on the awning and the fact their parking lot was filled at 8 p.m. We took a chance and were delighted we did. The service and staff were fast and friendly. The food was good and not too expensive. I had a new fish dish they had created called Santorini Slavi ($19) which was delicious. My only complaint was the bread they served before dinner was a spongy rye. I prefer a crusty bread. I plan to go back. We only have a few days left in Sarasota, but I am going to try their breakfast.

Nice mom and pop style Italian eating. If your expecting a cookie cuter Italian restaurant this is the wrong place. The food is great, the staff was polite and my wife and I felt like we were eating at a families place. We had the lasagna and the baked Ziti along with a soup and salad. The unnamed soup (cabbage, ground beef, and chicken broth) I highly recommend. Tracy (sp?) was our waitress.

We recently had our rehearsal dinner at DeMarco's and it could not have been better. All of our family and friends loved the setting and the food. I am still getting compliments on it. For a very reasonable price, DeMarco's closed the restaurant to public to accommodate our group of 35 people. Included was soup, salad, bread, any entree on the menu, and unlimited wine and beer. (The restaurant does not serve liquor). The staff was so lovely--chatting with our family and congratulating us on our upcoming marriage. Sherry (sp?) helped my mother-in-law plan everything, and answered ALL of her questions. As my mother-in-law was planning this from Virginia, she could not have been happier with the helpfulness of Sherry. When we met Sherry in person, she was lovely and just as helpful. Even if you choose not to have an event here, you should ABSOLUTELY EAT HERE. The food is beyond amazing. I had the shrimp scampi, even though I absolutely love spaghetti and meatballs, and I was not disappointed. I did steal some of my fiance's dinner as he got the baked ziti. They even plated smaller portions on request for my nieces and nephew. Everybody loved their meal. Even our priest broke his diet to partake in the delicious meal. Please Please eat here on your next Italian night.

First (and last) time visitors to DeMarco's, went for Thanksgiving Dinner. Wait staff having a bad day, though the restaurant was not yet busy. At least five times "sorry" for forgetting things, coming back to clarify orders, etc. The special dinner, for $20, was not as advertised. It is my first time in almost 50 years that everything on the Thanksgiving menu was bad. Soup was starchy, flavorless and full of pasta, salad was a pathetic cafeteria-style mix of few veggies, egg and lettuce, with cafeteria style dressing but good croutons, gravy tasted like the soup with too much pepper added, turkey was dry, stuffing was a tasteless paste with the occasional sausage morsel, potatoes were flavorless, sweet potatoes looked to be from a can, with a weird unpleasant taste, vegetable "timbale" was corn frozen or from a can with butter. I didn't taste the cranberry sauce, by that time I was done with this meal. One of our group ordered from the normal menu, and the seafood/fish dish came in a sauce that again, seemed to be the flavorless soup with a splash of wine in it, and mushy mahi mahi that tasted of nothing. The scallops were good. The pie was, for us, disgustingly sweet. What a disappointment. It kind of seemed like the cook staff had gone on strike well before the holiday, and someone who is not a cook stepped in.

The most recent review on the wall was over 10 years old, and on one of those plaques that come from a local paper. This was the first thing I noticed. The second was that the youngest person in the room besides me or Jenn was about 135. There were three groups of diners this night. A 20 top of seniors all with separate checks, but one gratuity auto-added. Not a good sign. Our party including two veteran foodies, and 2 other groups of seniors. Every one from the 20 top left with a doggie bag neatly folded up ready to eat later. All the plates were HUGE. 24 oz killer bowls of pasta. I noticed this as they walked by for the second group. We ordered from an over-run server at the same moment as the last group. We all ordered similar things as 3 of our dinners were wrong... same item, but wrong protein. After several shared bites the consensus was that we wished we'd gone to Olive Garden. The pastas were all grossly overcooked to the point of being paste. The sauces were all wrong, grossly bland, over-salted and starched. The piccatta sauce had no lemon or caper. just brown starchy gravy. My genovese pesto was grainy, dry, and had no hint of fresh flavor at all. It was frozen pesto in a tub. The marsala was more brown glop with a single mushroom slice. But the portions were huge. The reviews about the veal must have been from a time when they actually served it instead of pounded gristly pork shoulder steaks. My main complaint of this place is the owner. I have met some less-than-charming folks in the service industry. Worked for some of the worst. (I once watched a 'famous' owner and radio personality spit on a guest, then pay his Head Waiter to tell the guest that he had some disease that made him drool involuntarily.) We brought to the attention of the waitress when she brought out the wrong entrees. The owner got wind of it and berated the server in a obviously-inappropriate manner. She returned to the table and offered a 25% discount. When we then tasted the food, and realized how bad it was, no one ate any more. we all left over 85% of our food untouched. We asked to speak to the manager, as I had no intention of allowing my mother in law to pay for 3 of the meals that were inedible and over $22 each. We explained that it was understandable that someone could confuse the meals. (I DID notice that they re-served the plates that had been on our table, picked over and all, to the other table...) Jenn tried to explain this didn't make up for bad food. The owner said our complaints were invalidated by our statements that the server had just been a slip up that could have also been the kitchen's fault. I would bet that her husband is the 'chef', and wouldn't hear complaints against him. We were told that the reason the sauces tasted like that was because that's what the guests like. Well, if you want to eat food that wasn't fit for a geriatric farm, in portions that would feed a college fullback for 2 carb-loading sessions, by all means eat at Demarco's. If you want closer to real Italian, try anywhere else...

In town as a visitor and was surprised by DeMarcos. The outside is deceiving because its better than one can expect. The inside is a little crowded and it is only tables and chairs (no booths). There is a very friendly italian feel with the owners working directly in the restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh so expect a wait. There is bread, soup and salad beforehand to hold you over so its not too bad. The waitress Jo is really funny and personable. The prices are fair and the menu is big.

My family has a weird knack for planning a dinner out and not actually making any real plans. Ergo our near dinner fiasco last Wednesday night. We first set out for a place on Midnight Pass and it was closed for vacation. Next we tried a chain kind of place up on Clark that had a 40 minute wait. My mom (who actually lives in Sarasota) insisted we go immediately to Demarco's and I just wanted to turn around and go back to her condo. Man oh man I'm glad I listened to my mama! Considering I was already aggravated and impatient when I walked in the door, it was nothing short of a miracle the way and speed in which my mood turned around. It is quaint and clean and leads you to to believe you've come to the right place ...yes sir. Their menu is vast and creative and has something for everyone. Our entrees came with both soup AND salad !! Not OR ... AND!! Homemade soup and a lovely little salad with a wedge of the ripest most perfect tomato I've ever encountered ??? Ummm , yes please ... I am on vacation after all. We placed our orders of Salmon with Lemon Dill Sauce, Veal Picatta, Spaghetti and Meatballs and Cheese Ravioli and awaited our meals. The bread with oil and herbs is a great way to spend your time while chatting and waiting for your Demarco's delights. Mind you the wait won't be long as each item is brought out with fantastic timing ... chicken soup with satin like savory broth ... nice side salad with fresh dressing and piping hot entrees. Very nice indeed. Did I mention the entrees also come with a vegetable ??? Yes ... they do, as in fresh steamed broccoli with Hollandaise kind of veggies. Yum! So that night was one of those nights where two people order the EXACT SAME THING ..... more often than not cuz it sounds so damn delish. The order, or orders, were for chicken soup, house dressing on salad, Veal Picatta and Artichoke with the Hollandaise adorned broccoli. I was thrilled for my aunt when her order was placed before her. Thrilled, excited .... jealous ....wondering .... A computer glitch, our two orders were never delivered that was and only one was prepared. Ok ... Ok ... these things happen, and you know what? Had I been in the bathroom at the time I never would have noticed the problem. That's how on top of this they were. Excellent recovery guys. Beautifully married flavors on all levels and the veal was cooked just right. My mom raved about the dill sauce on her salmon for days and Mom doesn't just hand out praise, believe ... I know. Our server Melissa was a real pro with a delightful personality and ability to stay on top of everything. When you go to Demarco's shoot for a Wednesday and you may get lucky enough to have her host your evening there much like we were. Ary was the other lovely lady there that night and helped run our food and aid Melissa in making sure our experience was great in addition to tending to her own tables. She swooned over my daughters with her beautiful accent in a way that made me sure nothing that I would ever say could sound that good. She even hung herself out the front door as we loaded into my mom's car just to say goodnight! My mother and aunt have had several meals here. They are not easily pleased. They have nothing but good things to say ... this is near miraculous. My daughters and I were here for the first time this past Wednesday. loved it and will be back again and again to enjoy the wonderful food and see my family truly enjoy themselves.

We were there a week ago tonight. We made reservations for 5 PM, two people. We called around 4:55 as we were stuck in traffic. We were seated promptly and greeted graciously. The place is small and by 6:00 there were people waiting. I would suggest reservations as this restaurant gets busy. The waitress, Lynn, provided wonderful service. All the waitresses have been there for years, so they can provide ample advice for those in doubt about the menu. The wine was only $9.00 per bottle. I am not a wine connoisseur. I cannot tell you about the grapes or the vineyard etc. All I can say is that the wine was tasty. Certainly the wine added a nice touch to the dinner. Lynn recommended the Veal Amalfi for my wife, and the Seafood Zarzuella for me. Both dishes came with soup and salad. I had the clam chowder, which was good, but not great. I am finicky about clam chowder, being born in New England. My wife had the broccoli and cheddar soup, which was very good. Both dinners came with salad. The salad was very fresh and the dressings were tasty. Both main dishes were EXCELLENT. Looking at other dishes being served, they all looked very appealing. This restaurant draws a vigorous repeat crowd. Many patrons were recognized by the staff. The spacing of the courses was perfect. Neither rushed nor interminable waits between courses. The restaurant is very clean. Parking is very adequate. The restaurant is on the northside of Clark, heading west. Pay attention as you drive, it is easy to pass. We are very much looking forward to our next visit to DeMarco's. There is a reason why it is a Sarasota staple. The owner was manning the register and she was as nice as the waitstaff. It is so nice to be appreciated as a customer, and treated like a friend. I am sure that all the waitstaff is wonderful, but Lynn is truly someone special.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
