The name of this cafe sums it up nicely when it comes to its attitude about *food* -- to which it apparently has gross indifference. This is primarily a bar, not a restaurant, and if I had known better I would have just stuck with ordering a beer or a margarita and I probably would have been fine. As it was, an empty dining room should have been my cue. I had the $15 tuna sashimi with three small pieces of yellowfin tuna and fake fake wasabi. I say "fake fake" because most sushi restaurants use a pre-made wasabi from a tube, not hand-grated root. I'm OK with that -- I'm not that much of a purist. This fake fake wasabi was bright green, like the frosting on a stale St. Patrick's Day cupcake from Publix a week past March 17. Had no taste either. They also used discount, off-brand, off-tasting ketchup for the fries which came with my husband's sandwich which takes penny-pinching to new lows. I got the salad Cynthia which was okay, nothing special, basically the house salad with some low-end blue cheese added to it. My husband got the crab bisque, which he enjoyed, but I thought it was tremendously over-salted. He also got the filet sandwich, which he enjoyed...but this is a guy who could eat out of the frozen food section at Trader Joe's for the rest of his life -- so what does he know? Our daughter got the roast duckling, which was tolerable but when I tried the mashed potatoes I had an almost Pavlovian response -- echoes of something I was trying to place in my memory. They definitely tasted like instant potatoes, but they were slightly lumpy. How could instant potatoes be lumpy, I asked myself. Then I remembered where I had tasted these potatoes before -- in the trapezoid of aluminum tray next to the Salisbury steak and opposite the mixed vegetables in a Swanson TV dinner. I'm sure Blase, with its low demand for real food from the kitchen, is purchasing frozen mashed potatoes in big pouches from Simplot. Later, my mother-in-law who lives in Venice said she had warned us not to go to Blase...I seemed to have forgotten that warning. When in Siesta Key, only drink alcohol at Blase Cafe -- hard to screw that up. If you want good food go to the Cottage or Eat Here. My message to Blase -- quit being so blase about your food. Winnow down your menu to a few bar snacks or streamline your offerings to something you can do well. Update 7/10/14: Ouch! Help! I just got bitch slapped by Rami N. To be fair, I upped the stars I gave Blase from one to two. The place isn't horrid or roach infested. It didn't make me sick. It is merely average and I think it can do better. Of course I would categorize a lot of Florida cuisine, particularly in tourist destinations, as being average...which is also my criticism of beach cuisine closer to me (i.e., Ocean City, MD, which is chock full of mediocre restaurants). Part of the problem is that the area caters to a clientele that is comfortable with average. Or, let's put it this way...most Americans are fine with Cracker Barrel, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, etc....all restaurants I have either never set foot in or haven't been in for years, if not decades. I would put Blase Cafe on par with TGI Friday's. Once again, it could do better. If I owned the place I would just scale back the menu and offer some really creative/seasonal bar fare. I am not on a mission to make Rami flaming mad...just to state my opinion for what it's worth. And, yes, I know wasabi is green. It's usually a muted sage green, not an optic Kelly green. But maybe that's how they do it in Florida.

We have been dining at Blase Cafe on our yearly vacation to Siesta Key for 6-7 years. Taking note that the restaurant is under new ownership, I saw that many of the menu items were carried over from previous ownership. I have never been able to get past the shrimp with gorgonzola sauce and have ordered it every time. It was very good and I was not disappointed. BUT, the foccacia was horrible. Hard to believe when so many chain type restaurants do it perfectly. Word to Rami: hire someone who can make stand-up foccacia!!! Hoping for better bread on my next visit.

On a night when everywhere else is full with loud and drunken people, we looked for a bit of a quiet location for dinner and this place happened to be really close to where we were staying. The first night we went there, the waiter politely told us that the kitchen was closing in a half an hour but that they will still serve us if we'd like something from their menu. We ordered steaks which came with asparagus, pre-dinner salads, and a bottle of wine. It was nice and the atmosphere was fairly peaceful, no particularly loud noise drowning out our conversations, and the place was clean and well-kept. Overall, the dinner experience was wonderful and we came back on the last night of our trip because the first experience was fantastic!

A small, unpretentious place to dine and have a lot of fun. First of all, every time we have been there the music has been infectious and lively. As the evening progresses, many patrons cannot resist the urge to get up and dance. The Cosmos were absolutely delicious. So was Romi's Humus appetizer. Husband had Pasta Bolognese and gave it two thumbs up. He also had the Black Bean Soup which we both loved. I had the Sea Bass (Yum) and a slice of chocolate cake which was outstanding. Stephanie, our waitress was lively and very accomodating. There should be a Stephanie in every restaurant.I cannot imagine not having a good time there.

The appetizers were unbelievable - Gorgonzola steak, and goat cheese ravioli with a curry sauce. I would get BOTH of these again in a heartbeat. Everyone loved their entrees - pasta needed a bit of salt, otherwise the experience was fantastic, from the food to the waitress to the awesome bartender who brought us a chocolate bar during our meal! Definitely give dinner a try here!

We went for after dinner drinks and expected a "martini bar" based on the reviews. The bartender did greet us quickly but it was with "Hi. What can I get you?" No offer of a drink menu, no suggestions, no smile. We asked for a drink list at which point she handed us a double sides table tent with one side dirty and ripped. We looked it over and it was not what we were expecting. The list contained 8 or so basic martinis. We were underwhelmed by the whole five minute experience, so we left. This could have totally been our fault, though, for expecting a real deal martini joint. You know the kind with the giant book full of drinks. I'd go back and try the food, I guess. Just don't go expecting top notch service or drink options.

Amazing martinis and such a great staff. We love coming to Siesta Key and always stop in here for a drink. I've never had a bad martini, but my favorite is the Cappuccino. The bartenders are also very creative and do designs on the top, which is a nice touch. It's a great place to go for food also. We enjoy taking advantage of the happy hour at the cafe, that includes $5 martinis. Overall, one of our favorite spots in siesta. Definitely the best for martinis!

Confusion only drunks can understand. Servers run around like chickens without heads which means having to repeat your food/drink order multiple times. The noise is deafening. Oh, and the food sucks. Pretty much all you can expect from the lowbrow food scene in the village.
Martinis are very good here and the service is fun and accommodating. We didn't eat but we enjoyed the drinks. Cucumber martini, Key Lime martini, & Espresso martini a were delicious!

3.5 stars. This review is only for the bar scene and drinks because I have not eaten here. I've been to this place a couple of times. It is the most affordable place on Siesta Key for a GOOD martini and the bartenders (especially the one that looks like Borat) have consistently made delicious strong martinis. That is the reason we go back. My only complaint with the martinis is the menu. This is a martini bar - they should have more than 8 martini options. Still the chocolate martini is my fav. (they do have beer too.) The reason I don't love this place is the choice in music. A lot of the times its like 70s and isn't that like the worst decade ever for music? I mean, I'd rather do the jitterbug to some 20s ragtime then listen to the 70s. Just sayin. Anyway, there is a very small dance floor that fits almost a dozen people. It is a very casual crowd - no dressing up here. The crowd is typicaly older - 50s+. If you want to go dance with a younger crowd, then you have to head a few stores over to the Beach Club. They also have a little outdoor patio in front, but all the action is inside.
We just drank here for happy hour (no food). The Martinis are excellent! I highly recommend the Lemon drop martini.

Went there tonight and it was nice change of pace compared to the other places in the village. I felt like I was in an American owned bar/restaurant in the Caribbean. Nice relaxing and quant. Plus the food was great for the price. Ordering from the Martini list is a must to experience the qualities of this eclectic cafe. Going to start coming here more often. They also had Pedro's band playing outside, which always makes my night :)
This is one of my favorites and has been since they opened. The food is consistently good but I go more for the atmosphere and martini menu. It's a great place to take friends visiting and always entertaining with Romi, the bartender. Recently they changed the Ahi dish and removed the seaweed salad which ruined it for me. I know that s.salad is expensive, but the substitute takes away from the excitement of what made this dish more original than every other restaurant in town. There are new items such as a chicken crepe, which was fantastic! Very busy on weekends so go early to get a prime bar seat and enjoy the show. You will also enjoy samples of martinis as they seem to shake a little extra to entice you to try one next.

All of us who ordered sweet martinis were pleased, though the one person who ordered a real martini (for the first time in his life) didn't like it. The prices were very good: $7.50 for quite fancy cocktails, which is less than I would expect in a beach resort town. We also found the staff to be pleasant and competent, and the atmosphere to be comfortable and classy, with the caveat that the rest of the clientele seemed to consist of rather drunk, middle-aged, middle-class citizens.

The dress is casual but I would feel completely comfortable going there a little more dressed up. Hubby and I went to get a couple drinks. He ordered a Bloody Mary and I had a glass of red wine. Both were great We ordered the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. The shrooms came out and were completely raw, we sent them back and the 2nd time around they were great! The sauce on them paired with the crusty bread was delicious. Our waitress, Stephanie's was great!! The 3 stars are for the owner and his "friend" who were sitting outside on the same porch as us puffing on cigars & swisher sweets & drinking. They were both talking loudly on their phones. One was yelling into the phone telling some one they owed him money and that he is involved in 3 lawsuits. Totally rude and in poor taste. I was completely turned off and frankly pissed that the valuable time I was spending with my husband was marred because of these two people. Too bad...

I love me sum Martinis! Especially a grapefruit martini. A friend told me I had to come here cause the Ruby Red Martini was the best. WRONG! Really?! A Martini bar that can't even make a good simple martini? It's the only place that I've ever left w/out ordering a 2nd. This place is only good for those who just want the foo foo Martinis like Chocolate & Banana. Put chocolate in anything it'll taste good. And, at least for me, the Borat owner guy was kinda creepy & intrusive. Just felt socially awkward to me. It was a very dead night so I can't comment on the social scene. I have never had the food here-so I can't speak for that. But I have come several times for drinks and always have a wonderful time. The bartender (who I think may be the owner or maybe just a manager) makes the best drinks! I have ordered several different martinis listed on their menus and they are ALWAYS delicious! He is very friendly and engaging and is happy to change the music based on whatever crowd is present at the time, he will play anything you request. If you are looking to have a chill night with a couple of drinks on the key this is the place to go!

Hands down, my favorite place in Siesta Village to go grab a drink and a bite. Blase has been around for years now, but they are always upping their game. The place itself is wonderful, almost garden-esque yet still comfortably beachy. The service is spectacular and every staff member is consistently friendly. Best of all are their menu options. I don't know of anyone who doesn't love their Chocolate Martini, but their martini menu offers something for everyone. As for food options, the Blasé Burger and the fish tacos are my normal go-to.

This place really isn't much. Just a small martini bar and café in Siesta Key village. They have a small outdoor porch and play music off of a stereo inside, with occasionally having live music outside. It's quaint and comfortable and generally filled with the typical Sarasota retirees and 50+ crowd with a mix of some slightly younger (40's) and a few 30 some year olds. However, they play fun music on the stereo and the bartenders are terrific. You also can't beat the prices or the taste of the martinis. I realize my first paragraph is not a glowing review, but lets be honest, you go to a martini bar for the martinis. And if it's comfortable with a friendly crown, good bartenders, and fantastic martinis, then who cares if it's not a glitzy bar. Blasé is great because its a terrific place to relax and the martinis are awesome. I love their Key Lime Pie and their Chocolate Martini. My girlfriend and I had a couple more besides those, but those are the ones I remember. And hey, watching 50+ year olds dance to top 40 playing on the stereo after they've had a few martinis is always entertaining. By the way, they do serve food, but I haven't eaten here, so I can't address eating.

Martinis are very good here and the service is fun and accommodating. We didn't eat but we enjoyed the drinks. Cucumber martini, Key Lime martini, & Espresso martini a were delicious!

3.5 stars. This review is only for the bar scene and drinks because I have not eaten here. I've been to this place a couple of times. It is the most affordable place on Siesta Key for a GOOD martini and the bartenders (especially the one that looks like Borat) have consistently made delicious strong martinis. That is the reason we go back. My only complaint with the martinis is the menu. This is a martini bar - they should have more than 8 martini options. Still the chocolate martini is my fav. (they do have beer too.) The reason I don't love this place is the choice in music. A lot of the times its like 70s and isn't that like the worst decade ever for music? I mean, I'd rather do the jitterbug to some 20s ragtime then listen to the 70s. Just sayin. Anyway, there is a very small dance floor that fits almost a dozen people. It is a very casual crowd - no dressing up here. The crowd is typicaly older - 50s+. If you want to go dance with a younger crowd, then you have to head a few stores over to the Beach Club. They also have a little outdoor patio in front, but all the action is inside.

Blasé Cafe makes the best martinis in town... My personal favorite is the pear martini. They have live music everyday too which is a plus!!!

Laid back bar. Live music. MUST GET THE BANANA MARTINI!!!! (See my pretty picture) Yum. Servers were nice and did not pressure you. Smoking outdoors. A plus. One star deducted because I did not get any food.

Great place to eat, drink and socialize. Rami and his staff always go out of their way to make sure you are happy. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a friendly nice place to eat and hang around for a while. Best martinis on be beach and in Sarasota. Food is amazing.

Went there tonight and it was nice change of pace compared to the other places in the village. I felt like I was in an American owned bar/restaurant in the Caribbean. Nice relaxing and quant. Plus the food was great for the price. Ordering from the Martini list is a must to experience the qualities of this eclectic cafe. Going to start coming here more often. They also had Pedro's band playing outside, which always makes my night :)

We just returned from a weekend stay in Siesta Key. We tried numerous places but unfortunately, we didn't try Blasé Cafe until our last night. What a great time we had!! Food was delicious, reasonably priced and good portions. Drinks were nicely prepared & the service was friendly and efficient. The clientele is a mix of locals and visitors & everyone was friendly. The music on Saturday night, 8/25/12, was the highlight of our weekend. I don't know the name of the band, but, these were some extremely talented musicians. They played a great mix of tunes, of numerous genres. Two floutists made them sound even better. We can't wait to go back to Siesta Key & Blasé!!

This is one of my favorites and has been since they opened. The food is consistently good but I go more for the atmosphere and martini menu. It's a great place to take friends visiting and always entertaining with Romi, the bartender. Recently they changed the Ahi dish and removed the seaweed salad which ruined it for me. I know that s.salad is expensive, but the substitute takes away from the excitement of what made this dish more original than every other restaurant in town. There are new items such as a chicken crepe, which was fantastic! Very busy on weekends so go early to get a prime bar seat and enjoy the show. You will also enjoy samples of martinis as they seem to shake a little extra to entice you to try one next.

We stopped here after dinner for martinis only, since the place was very near our hotel. All of us who ordered sweet martinis were pleased, though the one person who ordered a real martini (for the first time in his life) didn't like it. The prices were very good: $7.50 for quite fancy cocktails, which is less than I would expect in a beach resort town. We also found the staff to be pleasant and competent, and the atmosphere to be comfortable and classy, with the caveat that the rest of the clientele seemed to consist of rather drunk, middle-aged, middle-class citizens.

Excellent food, similar to what we would see in France or Italy but without the attitude!! I had the duck which was excellent , my wife had the Fillet & this too was very good. A little pricey by US standards but worth it for a special evening.

Lots of charm and character. Great atmosphere and delicious martinis, or so I am told. Cool art collection and super-friendly staff. The food is great too! They have live music on the weekends. The dress is casual but I would feel completely comfortable going there a little more dressed up. I've only been there during the afternoon and evenings, so I'm not sure if they're open for breakfast or lunch.

Got the steak sandwich and the mussel~ both weren't good~ the mussel dish were extremely salty, as if they were cook in a pot of salt~ and the steak sandwich is blah ...tender meat but it just doesn't taste like much.

Hubby and I went to get a couple drinks. He ordered a Bloody Mary and I had a glass of red wine. Both were great We ordered the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. The shrooms came out and were completely raw, we sent them back and the 2nd time around they were great! The sauce on them paired with the crusty bread was delicious. Our waitress, Stephanie's was great!! The 3 stars are for the owner and his "friend" who were sitting outside on the same porch as us puffing on cigars & swisher sweets & drinking. They were both talking loudly on their phones. One was yelling into the phone telling some one they owed him money and that he is involved in 3 lawsuits. Totally rude and in poor taste. I was completely turned off and frankly pissed that the valuable time I was spending with my husband was marred because of these two people. Too bad...

I love me sum Martinis! Especially a grapefruit martini. A friend told me I had to come here cause the Ruby Red Martini was the best. WRONG! Really?! A Martini bar that can't even make a good simple martini? It's the only place that I've ever left w/out ordering a 2nd. This place is only good for those who just want the foo foo Martinis like Chocolate & Banana. Put chocolate in anything it'll taste good. And, at least for me, the Borat owner guy was kinda creepy & intrusive. Just felt socially awkward to me. It was a very dead night so I can't comment on the social scene. But being its Siesta Key, it's either old & pretentious or annoying tourists. Your pick.

I have never had the food here-so I can't speak for that. But I have come several times for drinks and always have a wonderful time. The bartender (who I think may be the owner or maybe just a manager) makes the best drinks! I have ordered several different martinis listed on their menus and they are ALWAYS delicious! He is very friendly and engaging and is happy to change the music based on whatever crowd is present at the time, he will play anything you request. If you are looking to have a chill night with a couple of drinks on the key this is the place to go!

I give 5 stars to the bartender who was just as sweet as he could be. As a former bartender, that counts a lot for me. I went in by myself to enjoy some o the allegedly great people watching and was very disappointed. I only wanted a beer, so I can't speak about the martinis. It's just not my scene at all. I guess that it serves the purpose of a bar on a beach. I'm beginning to think that the only good bar on a beach in Florida is my in-laws' house.

I think this place is confused as to what it wants to be. The menu is all over the place and the decor wants to be kitschy but just looks poorly thought out. However, the martinis are damn good and the bar is a fun place to be.

Blasé is the perfect name for this place. They have a blasé attitude toward virtually everthing from the shabby decor to the waitstaff and mostly the cuisine. Don't waste your time or hard earned mony here. Try Blue Smoke or The Cottage instead.
