Amazing $2 breakfast sandwiches, $4 burgers and a huge variety makes Big E's the best deal in town if you're truly on a budget. The only comparison at these prices is fast food, but that would be an insult to Big E's commitment to quality and locally sourced produce. Big E's isn't for everyone. Service, food preparation, and atmosphere can vary when Eric or Christine aren't working -- going in before 5 p.m. tends to be a safer bet. The shop is a magnet for extreme personalities, and the awkward seating and frequent lack of music means you're hearing everything everyone says, whether you like it or not. It can take quite a while for food to come out when they're busy. And there is no denying a general sense of unkempt malaise in the air. My girlfriend refuses to get Big E's unless we call our order in and get it to go, and I can hardly blame her. But what the detractors hate tend to be the very same things that fans love. I like being forced to hear those around me -- it inevitably turns the space into a sort of Habermas-ian public sphere. Moreover, I enjoy the unpredictability of it all. It keeps you on your toes; it keeps things real. It remind you that there are real costs associated with providing quality food cheaply, and it reminds you who you're neighbors are. For those in a rush to get back to the office or wanting to play it safe, there are always sub shops and fast food. For everyone else, there's Big E's. Full review here: ticketsarasota.com/2011-…

Was in town for my brothers wedding and wanted something other than crappy frozen fried fast food, so my dad and I were almost an hour driving around, all to end up to the first place we passed Big E's. My dad ordered chicken nuggets, tacos, a chicken quesadilla for myself and two strawberry mango smoothies all for $15 & some change. It does look like a hole in the ground but you encounter a chill environment with chill people. I would definitely recommend this place atmosphere is awesome and food is amazing. Very much worth the wait.

The environment is not exactly aesthetically pleasing but they make up for it by making some dope chicken quesadillas. The food is tasty and the people are friendly. The only other downfall would be that it takes some time for your order because there is usually only one person working. Other then that waiting pays off. Tacos are 3 bucks on Fridays, the breakfast sandwiches are off the chain and from what I've heard is that they make healthy delicious smoothies. Come check it out!

Love this place. They are really good people. This is a place where you can come and get a meal for basically no money at all. Then you can stay here all day with your computer. I think Eric runs this place not to make money, but to take care of the strays and loners in this city, and I've seen him do amazing things. So I always come support him when I can.

This place is great for students on a dime, but I wouldn't consider this a restaurant in the least.

My favorite restaurant in Sarasota. It's like the dive bar version of a cafe, but the upkeep is much better. The food is really affordable and tasty. It is also cooked right there for you. $3 gets you a big breakfast sandwich with your choice of bread, toppings and meat and unlimited coffee. It's a pretty amazing deal. If I lived within walking or biking distance I'd go at least once a week.

GASP! I am ashamed, ASHAMED I say at how few reviews this place has. Where my Ringlingers at?? I know you're out there, sipping your coffees at 2am during crunch week (when E keeps the place open all hours of the night) or lounging about playing one of the various boardgames contained on the bookshelves...which may or may not be missing pieces. Or sliding the bookshelf aside to simply chill in the second room, full of art on the walls and hobos on the computers. Or at least that's what I remember from it. But what I miss most, dear readers, is the yerba mate which woke me up without making me shaking like a leaf, as most caffeine does. I have yet to find one out here in my new West Coast home that compares ...and in case you're wondering, yes, the missing star is for the hobos on the computers. Slightly rancid smelling folks browsing myspace for cleavage? Not what I typically head to a coffeeshop for, but to each his own. Granted I haven't been here in a couple years but I was recently inspired to go back and revisit my floridian haunts in yelpian style, so perhaps it has changed since then. but I wouldn't know, because none of you have written reviews! Get on it, guys!

Free wi-fi and always an interesting group of people. Good selection of coffee and tea drinks, and a refrigerator full of some energy drinks and sodas. Really cheap sandwiches to boot. Ask for a meatball sub with pesto sauce instead of marinara. Its the best.
