Great service, ample portions and reasonable prices! The menu is varied and we love taking friends there for breakfast. The omelets are excellent! They often very busy and it is a relatively small place. Avoiding the typically busy times is prudent.

What a pleasant surprise this little gem was. The cleanest restaurant I've been to in I don't know how long, with a great staff and yummy food. We watched the busboy actually move chairs to sweep under the table. Yeah! There was no dust anywhere including the ceiling and the fans. Our waitress was darling and very attentive. I noticed when the other waitstaff was busy the friendly hostess got the drink orders. The food was delicious. I had Greek salad with gyro meat and spinach pie!!! My husband had the country fried steak and mashed potatoes. It came with salad, and a side and rolls. It was melt in your mouth good and seasoned just right. Pinot Grigio was tasty and only $3.50 per glass. To top it off had their good fresh coffee and cherry pie.

First time here. Great place! Great and friendly service, good food and low prices, clean interior. This place has been around since like 1983. If you are looking for a home feel this is a good place to go. Portion sizes are big so be careful not to order to much. I got coffee, a half order of biscuits and gravy and Scrambled eggs w/cheese. Way to much for me to eat. I would have been good with just the biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are homemade and so is the gravy. Definitely yum! I wasn't crazy about the eggs, the shredded cheese was just sprinkled on top and wasn't even melted. My hubby got French Toast, sausage links, and scrambled eggs w/cheese. He enjoyed his food. Our bill came out to $19 and change but could have been less if we knew how much food you got....we would not have ordered so much. We will definitely be back!!

It's nice change of pace. As mentioned, it's a diner. A very nice diner. Friendly service, decent food, very clean. Great place for breakfast

Popi's place is a diner, pure and simple. Their menu is exactly what you would expect for a diner, and the quality is about what you would expect for a diner - but they really do diner right - and not just for the Ruskin area where there isn't much to be found. Their breakfast is pretty standard, but for lunch or dinner, they really know how to fry right. Whether you get fish or shrimp, the batter is prefect and they definitely have the oil temperature perfected, I was really pleasantly surprised. Their burgers and sandwiches are pretty average, but a step above the average diner. Over all, they earned my repeat business and I'd recommend them if I were in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

What a great place to eat! The food is very good and reasonable in price! You never have an empty glass or cup! The server's are very attentive and are always checking on your table! Over all just a great place to go to! Definitely it is a diamond in the hay-stack!

Was it all a dream? I had to give the location a 2nd try. Today was French toast, 2 eggs up. The server asked if I'd like the "special" which is a cinnamon apple topping. Absolutely was my reply. After my meal I must assume a few things, and some others are reinforced. Service, attention, wait staff, cleanliness, etc. all unchanged and add tremendously to the overall review. Food may very well be hit or miss. They try. The apple cinnamon topping was clearly made in house, however it was a failure. First, all apples are not created equally. Some lend themselves to different uses and not knowing which to use is a cooking no-no. Having worked for a world renown Black Forest prize winning baker from Austria, this I know. In addition, spices loose their intensity as they age. It is quite likely that Popi's has a large McCormick (or other brand) that's been on a shelf way too long. There was neither apple nor cinnamon taste. It was absolutely tasteless. Please understand, it did not taste "bad" or offensive, it simply did not taste. The apple texture was there, firm not overcooked, but if you were blindfolded you'd have no idea that it was an apple cinnamon topping. This forced this update, still a place for a good breakfast, simply not great. ...and Popi remember to sample what you make and put out as a special. If you did this you never would have served the apple / cinn ... or worse if you did sample, someone shouldn't be making that decision.

Popi's is a local chain that grew from a lunch shack to a chain along US Highway 41 from Tampa to Bradenton. Good reliable, diner-like menus strong on breakfast & lunch options, with a number of local specialties such as cuban sandwiches. Portions are generous, service is quick, and prices are comparable to national fast-food chains but with more options and higher quality. Both eat-in and take-out is served well. Go local!

If you know what a diner is and are looking for one, this is your type of place. They have a huge menu, family-type atmosphere, everything tastes freshly made, and you get treated like you've been going there for years. In fact, I think some of the servers have been there for quite a while. And yes...you can get breakfast any time of the day. Have done this place a few times for breakfast and lunch...it never disappoints. Nothing fancy or expensive, just food that hits the spot. Beware though...go for the small orders at breakfast, or you'll want to go home and take a nap!

Moved into the neighborhood this weekend and decided to try this place for breakfast Sunday morning. had a very nice first experience. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Someone was always there to fill your coffee. My wife had the create your own skillet and it was great except it was missing the bacon she ordered. Once notified, the waitress had a side of bacon out within a couple minutes. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs. The steak was delicious. Their biscuits were good too. Hope the rest of their menu is as good when we come back.

This place is just good people good food and not too expensive come here at least once a week! Great variety on the menu!

  • JEREMY G.

The epitome of your standard breakfast fare. The difference between this and any other place (besides the obvious non-franchise) is that the staff is always exceptionally polite and the service is fast and always correct. If you live in the Ruskin area, or are just passing through, stop and try it out.

  • Marianne M.

Went there last night, everything was great and tasted homemade. Would have rated 5 except for the decor, it used to be a Pizza Hut and it still looks like one. Prices are good too.

  • Melina M.

I love this place! I'm a frequent visitor and I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner there. The double breakfast is quite filling, the buffalo chicken wrap is perfect for lunch and the fries are a seasoned wonderfully. I even really like the chicken fried steak! Prices are really great but it is really busy on the weekends so plan for a few mins wait when getting there. Otherwise, during the week there is rarely a wait. The waitresses are fantastic as well!

Best breakfast food around. Courteous friendly service and if you leave hungry, you probably need to go to a doctor to be checked for a tapeworm. Best eats are the Crab Eggs Benedict and my favorite the Chicken Biscuit. Imagine a biscuit with a fried chicken breast smothered with cheese and sausage gravy. That's wholesome heart clogging goodness there.

Fairly standard Greek style family restaurant, which basically means that they represent every culture on the menu, some perhaps better than most. I believe I just ordered a salad, diet life sucks, but you don't get that Ryan Gosling body by eating Fish N Chips, at least not when your 35....I digress: the gem on the menu is, you guessed it the fish and chips. Huge portion, and huge I mean that baby is like a mini dolphin on your plate, stacked with enough carbohydrates in the form of cut potatoes piled high like a mini haystack. Honestly, there really is no other reason to eat here other than this one single dish. The service was on par, place was packed, because besides McDonald's there might be two other quasi decent places in Ruskin, so they kept it at a nice clip for the demand at hand.

Good service and good food. Two of us had breakfast for lunch and it was good. Another enjoyed a hamburger and another buffalo wings. The only complaint would be is it was a little warm inside. We would visit again though.

This is a Family Restaurant ! Clean, Friendly, The Best Meal around for under $10!! seats about 100 people, sometimes it looks like a crowd outside, but it goes real fast, 10 minutes or less, have a seat on the bench! choice of a table or booth, friendly, clean good looking young waitresses and guys busing the tables! a very wide menu of American and Greek style foods! Large portions, beer and wine available, a small counter/bar, clean restrooms, plenty of parking, air conditioned with fans to keep you cool, no smoking, with very reasonable prices! That's why they have won the "Best meals under $10 so many years in a row from the Bradenton Herald Newspaper, the Herald had to ask them to give some other restaurants a chance to win the title, they have won it so many times!! they have other 4 locations in Manatee County!! these people know the restaurant business folks!! they know what they are doing, and u can see it when you eat there and what u eat there, and for what price!! its worth stoppin !! This one is in Ruskin,Fl. across the street from St.Anne's church! it was a pizza-hut gone south, thank god for that! and now Ruskin has a restaurant it can be proud of ! Sunday is special day, English cut Prime Rib, Lamb shank or Leg of lamb, cabbage rolls, fried chicken with a thin coating, salads of all kinds piled high!, swiss steak, seafood platter, homemade soups, chicken wings-real big ones!!, fresh baked rolls with real butter right out of the oven ! desserts- some homemade! open from 6am to 8pm monday-sunday It's right in the middle of downtown Ruskin, Fl. on US highway 41, on the west side of the street, there the one with the big sign out front and the crowd of people standing around outside, now u know why !! its worth the wait, and the money too!!

Great breakfast place! I have never had a bad experience here. Always busy, this place is a revolving door for Qtips (70+), young families and new transplants to the area. The Big Boy breakfast got me through my first time donating blood, so Popi's will always have a special place in my A- heart. :)

The restaurant itself is nothing to brag about. The service was excellent. The food was great. We ordered the typical American fare food. We wanted breakfast for dinner, but it was only served until 3pm.

Great service with a smile makes for the beginnings of a good dining experience at Popi's Place V. Our waitress, Irene, wanted to know if we were vacationing in Fl & wanted to know if we wanted to go to the best beaches in the area. Of course, we said yes. Not only did she write out detailed directions, she even explained the route...Anna Maria and Coquina Beach here we come...but not until after breakfast. I had the most delicious grilled fish with grits and 2 eggs. The fish was fresh, flaky and cooked perfectly. I ordered the biscuit instead of toast and it was huge, homemade & flaky. J had mushroom & swiss omelet with crispy hash browns. It looked yummy & J said it was. J's coffee cup was continually filled as was my water. This wonderful diner was clean, excellent service, delicious food with the most reasonable prices. I'll be back but not until I return on my next vacation to this area. Thank goodness my brother lives here.

Just your basic diner. Lots of the senior citizen population. We're here on a windy, cloudy Wednesday morning and the place is packed. Food is solid. The coffee is pretty good. Go for the shredded potatoes and the homemade biscuit, totally worth it. My husband got the waffle special, pecan cranberry. He said, "it's great, if you've never had craisins before." I had an omelette and it was good, just enough food. If I lived here, I'd come back, but since I'm just visiting, I would probably try another place. It's a bargain though!

THE VERY BEST COFFEE IN TOWN. Your typical greasy breakfast fare. I wasn't in love with the food but I'd go back just for the coffee. Do not order the oatmeal. Super packed - you will wait at least 20 minutes. Funny until reading some of these reviews I didn't realize they did anything other than breakfast.

The first time my husband and I went to this restaurant, I was a little "iffy" if it was going to be any good. It's a very laid back place, mom and pop type with regular every day food...or so I thought. The first time we went was for dinner and we got the steak and shrimp special....WOW IS ALL I CAN SAY!!! AMAZING! We have been back half a dozen times now & everything I've tried is great. Highly recommend this place! Great staff & great food!

I just can't understand where all these 5 star ratings are coming from. The only thing I can think of is that everything else must be awful around there so this is the best of the bunch? Atmosphere: OK. Clean. Service: Very good and friendly. Food: So bland and unseasoned. And the portions are TINY and not cheap. I got 2 eggs, homefries and a biscuit. There was barely anything on my plate...the eggs they use are tiny. The biscuit was huge and tasteless. We got a side order of the sausage gravy and that was the only thing on the table with any flavor. I will say that I was impressed with how non-greasy the food is. Breakfast cost about $20 for the two of us...and I didn't even get a tea. We were originally going to go to Granny's but heard so many things about how filthy the place is that we decided to try Popi's because it was just down the road. I would not go back...I would try a different breakfast place.

My coworker drove from St Pete to Ruskin (40 miles) to try this place out because her husband loves liver and onions. Supposedly, this place is known for it. So my husband and I decided to check it out for ourselves. He had the French Toast and I had the eggs Benedict. it was a little above average. Since we were well pleased with the exception food, we decided to come back that same day for dinner. This time we had their Rueben sandwich and fries. Delicious diner food is what you'll get at this place. Menu is extensive and maybe this is one of the reasons why their restaurant is always packed with people.

Ate here today for lunch and it was overall a great experience. The staff was very courteous and atmosphere was definitely cozy and welcoming. The food was excellent! We had the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, as recommended by our waitress, and they were delicious. You could tell they were freshly made, and they used real mozzarella cheese instead of the fake or frozen stuff. For entrees we ordered the San Francisco sandwich and the Cowboy Burger. Both were very tasty!!! The Cowboy Burger was especially yummy and had all the right fixings. We left talking about how we would definitely visit again.... Until about an hour later. I gave 3 stars because (and I hate to do this but feel it necessary) I unfortunately got very sick and I'm afraid it was from my burger. It's a shame because we took leftovers home which I'll now have to throw out and I'm not sure we'll be visiting this restaurant again. Their menu looks good with a lot to offer but we are now uncertain.

Went there last night, everything was great and tasted homemade. Would have rated 5 except for the decor, it used to be a Pizza Hut and it still looks like one. Prices are good too.
