Excellent BBQ but recommend it on the Texas toast. The bun is okay. Bring your check book or visa though cause it's expensive. I'll eat it again even though it's high priced. Good size servings.

Not to sound like a BBQ snob but I was definitely not impressed. I had just landed in Pensacola and was starving for lunch when I drove past Sonny's and thought I'd give it a try. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with cole slaw and beans as my sides. First off, the bun was too big and dry. If I get a chopped beef sandwich I want taste the meat, not a huge bun. Second, the meat was very dry and tasteless. This was around noon, so they should have had "fresh" brisket to serve, not something that had sat under a heat lamp for hours. All in all, very disappointed with my sandwich. The server was very nice though!

I first went to Sonny's when I was a young child. I haven't been here in couple years and it is still the best barbecue I've had. They have a great selection of barbecue as always. They have a great amount of food for all sort of people, including large groups.

Ansolutely the best barbecue in Pensacola. I stop there at least once a week to get a sandwich to take home. The price is great and the food is mouthwatering. The Sweet Carolina pulled pork is the best pulled pork I've ever had! By far.

Haven't been here in awhile and their food was surprisingly good. The pulled pork was a little fatty but the sides were delicious. Service was great and prices are reasonable. We will be back.

I think personally it was some of the best bbq I have had. The food came out fast and our waitress was kind and courteous. Food is reasonable priced especially for the portions you receive. Next time im in Pensacola ill definitely go to Sonnys bbq again.

Coming from a state where BBQ is big (VA) I gotta tip my hat to Sonny. I've had two visits so far and both times the food was delicious and the service was great! I haven't tried all the offerings yet, but the pulled pork and the cornbread was wonderful. I did have a wrong take out order that I didn't discover until I arrived home, but the staff was very apologetic and made it right when I returned. It was during the busy lunch hour. Hey, it happens. No harm, no foul. But it cost them a star :)

  • Amanda M.

Good service & food. Good southern bbq! Price for what you received was perfect. The sweet bbq sauce was great and the cornbread was as well. The beans were a bit tangy for me but, had large pieces of pork in them.

BBQ like you'd make it at home if you didn't want to make the effort or take the time to do it right. It's not *bad*, but it isn't in the top 25% of BBQ that I've had. The pulled pork is more like meat from a crock pot roast. The ribs' meat sticks to the bones, but is still tasty. The best thing about the place is the salad bar and the iced tea. And the staff, which are always competent and friendly. The new building is so much better than the old one, which was set up like a small ship's dining room and lighted up like a surgical theater.

Decent service. Mediocre quality food. I suppose if you like cheap bbq then this is the place for you. I wouldnt say dont go just know what you're getting into and dont expect super fancy food.

I have been eating at Sonny's BBQ for over 40 years. Since they stopped using real smoke pits, Sonny's quality of BBQ has gone down a lot during that time. However. I have found a few Sonny's that remind me of tastes of the original Sonny's in Gainesville and Jacksonville. This location is one of them. Great tasting ribs and pulled pork.

I just visited the drive through at your 9th Ave location in Pensacola and I am more than just upset and disappointed. This meal is a complete joke! We picked up dinner for two, to receive 10 ribs, 3 MINI sides and 3 pieces of the soggiest french toast you have ever seen. To make matters worse the fries were not cooked and raw on the inside and the other two sides ice cold. Seriously, we just paid $23 for this joke! I will never dine at this location again and a "sorry, give us a try in the near future, generic response doesn't cut it". There are too many options out there these days! We waited almost 20 minutes in the drive thru to receive the worst meal ever! The entire meal went in the garbage and we didn't eat any of it. Ridiculous! I am not the only one who had this experience. Once you start researching, cold food and messed up orders seems to be the way they operate.

Great ribs. Good smoke and BBQ pulled pork. Sides are a bit weak, but hey you come for the meat!

  • Chris H.

Nothing special. The chicken is dry as is most of the meat you get there. Definitely a decent place to go if you want a relatively cheap meal. Service is quick and sometimes it is too quick. Our last visit our food was brought to the table before we could sit down from the salad bar.

It's one of fav when we are in restricted budget, Saturdays Kids meals are free with purchase of an adult meal. When is fresh is great, but when is bad is really bad. their inconsistency made give them a 3 star rate because they just can't get their act together.

Sonny's will hit your barbecue spot and your g-spot. Ok, I'm lying about the latter, because that's just gross and not really right to do in a public restaurant, but the meat is good peoples. Me, being the salad freak that I am, love their salad bar and the fact that it's well-priced. Hubby and I shared some bbq pulled chicken, which was divine and the waitress, also named Angela, got a huge smile on her face when we ordered it and say, "That's what I had for lunch," so we knew we were onto something good. When you walk in, it's like a trashier looking Golden Corral, and you're thinking, "how could that be trashier?" Well, it is a tad, and it's older, so whatever, it doesn't matter. The tables are dirty, the decor is disco-fabulous (meaning 70's era maybe early 80's, not John Travolta influenced) but you're going to get a satisfying meal here at a good price, so who cares? Not I.

  • Rob L.

Good atmosphere and definitely better than the KFC across the street. Nevertheless, the chicken was rubbery tasted like it came from a microwave dinner. The sides are excellent though. Definitely home-cooked mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. BBQ sauces a plenty, but the mild was sweet, as was the sweet, as was the sweet and sour, as was the hot, etc.... My friend said the "Pork Three Ways" (inadvertently the name for this dish also became a running joke during our vacation) was pretty good, with two-of-the-three being a success.

  • Andrew S.

I think this is probably my favorite BBQ place to come. I love their sauces and indeed their salad bar is great. It is kind of old and grimy. But it's Pensacola, and I've been in a lot worse.

  • Daniel C.

This is hands down the best barbecue place I have been to in town. Pulled pork is probably the best thing here. Their sweet potato side is perfect.

  • Matthew R.

This place is great at handling groups of 2 dozen people without a reservation. We've gone several times now. Just order a few "Feast for Four"s and you can't go wrong. Invariably good waiters. The barbecue itself is quite good, but won't send you into fits of rapture. The chicken is so moist and delicious. *drool*

Another resturant I make sure I go to atleast twice when I am home on leave. My family is a huge fan of the pulled pork. Me I just love the ribs... lol No place has come close to sonny's

  • Erika T.

Oh how I miss this place! The food is GREAT and all the sauces are amazing! I visit here every time I come home for a visit!

  • Gabrielle P.

GROSS! The food was so disgusting. It's great if you aren't looking for a healthy, quality meal... I suppose. I had chicken fingers, green beans (which were swimming in fatty oil/butter) and corn on the cob (which tasted like it was just thawed out of the freezer before putting it on my plate). I can't eat processed food like this, so maybe I'm biased. I just know that I will NEVER eat there again!
