We love BBQ. We especially love good Texas brisket. Everywhere we travel we're always looking to try new places and always hoping for good brisket. We don't always find it but this time we sure did. It started at the beginning. We had a great waitress. Food was fast and so good that we enjoyed every bite. Our order is usually consistent in order to compare one place to another. We ordered the sliced brisket, baked beans and cole slaw. A special treat this time was the cornbread. We had only raves for everything bite we took. It was all delicious. We were't disappointed and will definitely be back at least one more time before we leave this order. As a matter of fact, tomorrow is when we're returning to get an order of ribs for our granddaughter at Corry Station. Fantastic place!

This Sonnys is remodeled and very nice. When you walk in you smell wood and light smoke (that's a good thing) The food is great, like all Sonny's I have been too. I tried the redneck egg rolls which were good, but a little bland without some sauce. The BBQ ribs were good, but not "fall off the bone". The fries, baked beans, and cornbread were all good but not great.

Foods always good. It's alot better after it was remodeled. Kids love it as well. Great family friendly atmosphere

I have been here several times and the the sweet tea is a must! The baby back ribs are tender, juicy, and smokey with just the right amount of spices to complement the natural flavor of the ribs. Also service is top notch. Every time we go in there we have a different server, but the same great service. Thanks Sonny's for being an amazing affordable BbQ place I can take my family to when they visit!

delicious barbecue at affordable pricing! Brisket was outstanding, as well as the vegetables. Even the brocolli was soft and freshly cooked. The cornbread is served as a crunchy muffin. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive.

Visiting from out of town. Heard this place was pretty good and wanted to try it out. I tried calling in an order, but every time the other line rang I was put on hold. If I am calling just to be put on hold for every single caller, I will never get any service. The food is only as good as its service to me. I hope my next selection will be a little more accommodating.

Now #1 spot on our BBQ list! Busy even at 3pm on a Wednesday and we took the Sheriff car in the lot as an endorsement. We were greeted by Sandy and her wonderful southern hospitality There were lots of booths and the restaurant was clean and new looking. Sandy said they had a flood last spring so they turned that loss into a new building. The air was filled with the smell of a good ol' smoke house. I had a sampler platter and it could have served 2 with cornbread muffin and two sides. I did eat all the pulled pork, dry rubbed ribs were tender and chicken was super moist. Service was good and food was served fast. Then the owner stopped by our table and offered us a take home bottle of our favorite sauce, and we chose the Smokey as it was really unique with smoked flavor, spice and a bit of sweet. We spent $55 plus tips for all four of us. This is a must on your list if visiting Pensacola

I had the brisket platter(lunch portion) which was just enough food to fill me up. I would opt for the non lunch portion if you're a big eater. Brisket was good, not outstanding when compared to Texas BBQ. I was disappointed that they didn't have a 2 meat platter option on the menu. I was also surprised that they charge an extra $3.27 too add the salad bar to a meal. Overall good food at a decent price.

The ribs and brisket were okay. I love how tender their brisket is, and their ribs are tasty without the sauces. I wasn't loving their sauces. They didn't suck; they just weren't great-tasting. My chicken still had blood in it and had a LOT of slimy fat. It was frustrating to try and find the cooked parts to eat. The garlic bread was a bit stale. Sure, the flavor was there, but it was in the middle of warm and cold. My favorite part was the corn on the cob with melted butter. Both the corn and butter just fell apart in my mouth. So warm... So good!

So it was lunchtime, and my elation to find a solid looking restaurant near me for lunch was met with an equal sense of disappointment when I found out that Sonny's is a chain. Meh, not every place can be a mom and pop hidden gem. Sonny's was very close, and you can never go wrong with barbecue. Sonny's BBQ is a smaller chain that services the Southeast. And service they do. One of the first things you'll notice when sitting down is a sticker on every table advertising their Random Acts of BBQ program. For those lynchpins of the community that aren't ever thanked enough, Sonny's accepts nominations for a surprise barbecue feast for as a way of thanking these people. The menu at Sonny's is large without being unbearably so. A brief look revealed all of your traditional barbecue favorites - ribs, brisket, pork, and chicken. My glutton senses perked when I noticed that they offer all-you-can-eat options for all of their meats. OMG. Unfortunately, my dad wasn't quite feeling a gluttony session. I went with the Sonny's Sampler - Pork, Brisket, Chicken, and Ribs. Bigger entrees are served with 2 "Sidekicks" (No guys... calling them sidekicks is nonsensical and does not fit into the theme of the restaurant). I went with baked beans and mac n cheese. No Southern-style barbecue is complete without a delicious glass of strawberry lemonade. Despite being slammed, our food came pretty quickly. All of the meats were flavorful and cooked perfectly. Like other diners, I didn't particularly care for any of the house sauces included on the table. Fortunately, the meats were good enough without any additional sauces. I was very impressed with their baked beans. Sonny's prepares their baked beans with barbecue sauce and pork. The flavors were bold, and this was easily the best baked beans that I've had so far. I was less impressed by their mac n cheese. It didn't feature the incredible crust on top and the non-Velveeta cheese that I like. Service started out kind of slow. There is no sign that says please wait to be seated or even a real host stand. My dad and I stood confused and had to ask a server that was walking by. Fortunately, it got much better after we were seated. Despite it being their lunch rush, our server, Caitlyn, didn't miss a single beat. Her talent, along with their big drink glasses, made sure I always had enough strawberry lemonade despite being an unapologetic camel. Sonny's is a terrific restaurant. Those who aren't trying their hardest to become morbidly obese can also enjoy lunch at Sonny's with some of their smaller, cheaper options. While I don't feel it's the best barbecue ever, I'll gladly return if I'm in the area.

This is a great sonnys bbq joint. I have been to a few in different states not sure why but this one is much better than any of the others ive had. Food was served super quickly hot and fresh. Server was awesome and salad bar was on point.

Excellent use of BBQ sauce. Kind of looks like a remodeled restaurant from Jon Taffer off of Bar Rescue. Overall pretty good place for some BBQ. Unfortunately I could tell my food was sitting under a lamp a while. No big deal since I knew how busy everyone is here, but it definitely dried up my ribs some, making them less tender. I got the sampler which was a good idea and surprisingly filling. I liked the chicken the best. I recommend this place if you want some quick BBQ food. Overall pretty good place, but I don't know if I'd go again anytime soon.

Had my first visit to Sonny's today. The place was packed on a Sunday noon, I decided to sit at the bar. I wanted to taste a little bit of all the barbecue on the menu, so I ordered the Sonny's Sampler. Sonny's Sampler comes with brisket (about 4 slices), chicken (leg and thigh), pulled pork, two pork ribs, choice of bread , and two sides. The meats were a bit dry but had a smokey flavor to offset the thought of dry barbecue. The staff is very attentive to the customers concern with any problems with any orders. Overall, I give 3 stars due to the mediocre barbecue.

Love the decor since the remodel, however with the metal on the wall makes it very loud when it is full of people. Otherwise, it is very nice and comfortable in there. The food as always wonderful. The redneck egg rolls are so yummy. Has lots of options to choose from and everything always tates great. Great wait service so far never had bad.

We traveled all the way from California to visit our son at the Naval base and he suggested this place on our last night there. We went early on a Friday night (5 p.m. ish) and it wasn't crowded. We ordered the big deal combo for the three of us. Everything was delicious! The prices were more than reasonable--about half the price we would pay for something similar at Famous Dave's. The portions were huge! Their sauces were good, hubby and son loved the ribs, and I liked the pulled pork. This mom was happy we had plenty of leftovers for my son to eat after we left for home the next day. When we left about 6:30 pm there was quite a wait to get a table. I hope we will go back there again!

Great food and great service. The whole place was redone since the flood and they did a great job. Since reopening the food is just as good if not better and the service is still friendly and attentive. If you're looking for some good bbq and not feeling like spending all day over the pit yourself, sonny's is the place to go!

This place was absolutely delicious! About 20$ after tip, including drink and all you can eat ribs and sides! The place was just renovated and it's awesome inside. Fresh smell of wood and smoked BBQ. Go hungry!

WORST. SERVICE. EVER!!! In around 2, 8 customers and 4 waitresses. After waiting to be seated, get passed by said waitresses six times while they chat with friends and each other. Finally my hunger got to me and i left and stopped for a sub at JJs. My advice go to Smokeys!!!

I'm from Texas, so I know good BBQ. I ordered the pulled pork lunch plate. I was greatly underwhelmed with the portion size of the pulled pork. Overall, the meal wasn't bad but also not something to write home about. Potato salad was good, but beans were just okay. I did enjoy the sweet tea, and the service was friendly.

    (3)
  • George A.

The cook on all the meat is good but i didn't like any of the sauces. No need for 4 sauces if you have 1 good one

  • Anthony S.

Being that Sonny's is a chain I come in with a little less expectation. My sweet potato was great, corn on the cob was tasty but the meat (turkey in this case) was very dry and tasteless, thank you sauce selection! I was dissapointed that the turkey here was far below the quality of the turkey at another BBQ chain back home (Bandana's). All in all it wasn't a terrible experience but considering meat is the star of BBQ and it was quite dry I really can't say I'd recommend this palce.

  • Christian K.

Came here lunch time frame. Was greeted right away and sat right away. Was shown the great way of southern hospitality here. The food was great. I got the all you can eat sweet ribs ( a little side note. If you get this first then you can get any of the other meats as much as you want. If you get any other meats first. You only get that meat) the garlic bread is on point. Coleslaw was in my opinion ok. The corn and cornbread were great as well. The thing that topped it off was the egg roles. Those things were amazing! Great prices for all the food definitely recommend to whoever wants some good BBQ.

Great food and good prices. Came into town to visit our son for the weekend at the Naval base. Pat was our server, what a great lady. Helped us out with the menu and gave us a jar of the bbq sauce we liked best. Not sure if they do that for all, but we loved it. Gotta try it out.

Stopped off for BBQ to take back to the hotel so we could catch the Walking Dead season premiere. Great food, friendly service, excellent prices. And we were in and out in less than 15 minutes. Sadly, we wouldn't have eaten here had we been eating in. BBQ without beer is a like a day without sunshine. But it would have been our loss. Now, if the season premiere of Walking Dead had just lived up to the food, and to the last three seasons ...

We used Yelp to find a good lunch spot....wow! What a place! We had two families with 6 kids...Sonnys was a perfect fit for our group. This is our new go to place when vacationing in Pensacola. My buddy and I got the AYCE pulled pork. I ordered cole slaw, baked beans, and cornbread for sides. When the waitress came back she asked if I wanted more pork yet or any other sides. I said "You mean sides are AYCE as well as the pork?" Yep. One word....Nirvana. Everyone in our group said it was the best restaurant we have found in the area. And the bill for 5 adults and 6 kids at lunch was only $86??? We thought they had made a mistake. Awesome place

Went here for lunch and enjoyed the place! The staff was very nice and attentive. Its very close to the base so it's a good lunch spot and the food is yummy (I had the pulled pork...mmmmm... co-worker had ribs and she said they were really good as well but her fave was the cornbread) -- will definitely be back!

Have you ever been face deep in BBQ sauce, looked up and found everyone around you as doing the same thing? I have, at Sonny's Real Pit BBQ. When you have three options for all-you-can-eat (AYCE)for under $15 with unlimited side refills you're bound to feel 9-months prego the next two days. All you can eat meat, sauces all around mix and match. Yum. Cheap. Fast. I went to Sonny's with 11 other guys for a BBQ slaughter and we were bound to help them lose money. You couldn't tell by the waitresses kind smile but they knew they were in for trouble as soon as we walked in. They did do themselves a favor and sit us right next to the kitchen knowing full well we were ready to eat three entire pigs. Their AYCE pulled pork was a great deal with two sides and cornbread for $10. The waitress seemed casual as she brought out the first plates and we mentioned she should bring a few more servings immediately. You would have thought there was an eating contest going on expect for the lack of cameras. I think I finished with 6 plates of pulled pork and 4 sides before my button was undone. Multiply that by 12 and you can assess the damage that was done that night. When you have six different sauces and jumbo drinks with AYCE things get a bit crazy at times. I'll be back, but I have to pace myself because I could smell the BBQ through my pores the next two days.

Let me just get this out of the way. The Sweet Tea and the Cornbread is 5 stars hands down, so if you just want to make a meal out of tea and cornbread,(which I have been known to do) look no further, this is THEE place. Now if your mouth is desiring ummm something more, say "actual BBQ food", then maybe you ought to use that Yelp app of yours and find a different establishment. I don't claim to be a slow meat grilling cooking expert, but I felt my meat was missing that smokey flavor that I like when I eat barbeque food. I do appreciate the different BBQ sauces you can choose from off the table, my favorite being the sweet sauce. The pulled pork was a little too fatty for my taste and our brisket was just so-so. The sides of mac and cheese cant compare to my homemade Velveeta-straight-from-the-box- shells, and the fries blah blah blah...I will say service is ALWAYS friendly and fast and we were in and out and able to make it back to work on our lunch break. They even have a drive-thru if you just wanna get it fast and to go. Sonny's isn't a bad place, and the locals here love it, and I will of course be back....its just that "Meh. I've experienced better"

We have eaten at Sonny's many times and find the food, friendliness, service and prices to be unbeatable ! We love going here but DO wish they had a liquor license so they could sell beer with the BBQ. Their sweet tea, however, is excellent as well and is refillable---if you can drink the HUGE glass they give you for your first serving!

Sometimes you want fast food with the emphasis being on the food, and the fast being just a perk. Sonny's for the most part fit the bill. I was happy with the salad bar as it offered a solid variety of toppings. However, the buffet only had iceberg lettuce and a small bowl of spinach; I'd have liked some romaine or mixed greens, but that's being picky. I ordered the unlimited salad bar with a small side of pulled pork, which was pretty good, but was significantly better when topped with the sweet BBQ sauce. Unfortunately, the top of the pulled pork was a bit dried out, like it had sat under the heat lamps for a little bit before being brought out. Being that we were in a bit of a rush and managed to be in and out in about a half hour, the food was good, the service was friendly and my seltzer water was brought out in a massive cup. All good things.

I have been to Pensacola 3 times now for roughly 6 months at a time each. And every single time I got a hankering for some great BBQ I would head down the street to Sonny's. Conveniently located off of Navy Blvd it's a 5 minute drive from Corry Station and about 10-15 from Naval Air Station Pensacola. Whether you take a ride through their drive through or go have a seat inside expect great service and great BBQ. If you head through the drive through Monday-Friday, you will most likely be greeted by the voice of Stella. Awesome friendly drive through waitress that about 2 months through my most recent stay in Pensacola had my regular order down pat. "Pull Pork Big Deal, french fries, on Garlic Toast with a Large sweet tea."........."...and extra sweet sauce please." Let's take this inside, As you walk in your greeted with wafting smell of wood stoked fires, great food, and friendly smiles from all the waiting staff. I know this sounds bad on my part but I am a character of habit. Plus if it's great why fix it? The only two things I would get from here is either the Pull Pork Big deal combo with French fries and garlic toast or the dinner plate of Ribs with baked beans, garlic toast and French Fries. For around 7-10 bucks you get every penny's worth in great taste. If there was a competition for best sweet tea in Florida, this place would be ranked in my top 5. I am an avid sweet tea drinker. So many places don't think you can tell, but when you leave the tea from the day before, don't clean the container or brew tea right after coffee, it does taste different! Fear not though, because in all my experiences at Sonny's their sweet tea does NOT disappoint and would easily rank at the top. Whether your in a hurry and hit the drive through or relax inside, Sonny's is the place to satisfy your itchin for great BBQ.

This place is all about the meat. The night we went, they had run out of chicken. I had the ribs sampler which had both dry rub and sauced ribs. The ribs were good. The dry rubbed ribs had a good smokey flavor. I prefer the saucy ribs, moister and not as smoky. No real sides, other than the frozen veggies or crinkle cut fries. Not even mashed potatoes, only baked. We walked into a smoky dinning room. I assume somebody in the kitchen messed up with the vents. By the end of the meal it had cleared up but the smell remained.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Sonny's, especially this one on Navy Blvd... great atmosphere, and the servers are great, especially "Pat" who's a sweetie, and been there for years.

Good chain BBQ place. Seated quickly and waitress came over quick. Pretty large menus and specials every day. Food came quick and the ribs were very good. BBQ sauces were not very impressive but still ok.

We were looking for a place to grab lunch on our way back from a Blue Angels air show (p.s. the Blue Angels are AMAZING!) and kept passing by a bunch of restaurants. I was getting sick of us passing by every place. We've got to EAT! So we finally decided on Sonny's. We were seated relatively quickly, but the waitress seemed pretty busy. Between the waitress and the manager, we got our orders taken. I opted for the Double Header: two types of meat(!!!!) (sliced and/or pulled), two sides, corn bread (or Texas toast), and sweet tea (or soda). Yep. I thought it was pretty tasty, and with the assorted BBQ sauces available at our table, I think everyone got the right amount of flavor on their meats :) My meal was maybe $10 tops. Really good deal for the amount of food. A vegetarian friend of ours had also stopped there en route, and was able to take advantage of the unlimited salad bar, so it looks like everyone can get what they want! Tasty, Inexpensive, Friendly, Lots of Options.

We had Sonny's BBQ with a server name Sunnie! Ha! This guy was gggreeeatt!! Every time we asked for something like, iced tea or cornbread, he would say, "Easy." Hahahaha! So the food was delishiouso! We ordered ribs, ribs, ribs, brisket, ribs, ribs, and ribs. They have 4 types of BBQ sauce and amazing cornbread...yum!! So YUM! I said to my papa, "this dude isn't in the right profession." So when Sunnie came back around, my pa asked him, "What school do you go to?" He replied with some school I don't remember. Then Sunnie looked at me and said, "Where do you go?" My father responded with, "Dude! She's old!" Ahahahahah!! I was like, "Yeah, I've been done with college for some time now. hehe..." It was super fun and super country. Yay Pcola!!

Looks like I am going against the trend... My disclaimer is that I currently live in Memphis and grew up in Texas so am I probably a BBQ snob... I was in Pensacola on business so decided to try it out for dinner. I picked up the combo plate which had ribs (wet), chicken, brisket, and pulled pork... The ribs and brisket were completely overdone (dry). The chicken was cooked well, but not sure why it was called BBQ chicken because it didn't even really have any smoke flavor. The pulled pork was probably the best thing on the plate. Not too fatty and had pretty good flavor. I tried a little of the mild sauce, sorry BBQ purists, and the flavor was ok but the consistency was odd, it was really thick almost like it had cornstarch in it... Baked beans were good but slaw could have been straight from Kroger... Anyway, all in all, I'm glad I could get some BBQ but if I am ever back in Pensacola, I'll try somewhere else...

Sadly I cannot even begin to describe how disappointed I was after trying Sonnys. The brisket was not cooked correctly, there was no pink to be found anywhere. None of the sauces could really be called "bbq" sauce, more like just variations of ketchup. Offering to serve the sandwich on a garlic roll does not help either; no self-respecting bbq is served on anything but a bun or white bread. Tried the pulled pork and was way too sweet; more like a chopped up honey ham. Really the only thing this place has going for it is the sweet tea and country music. This was my first stop for trying bbq on the emerald coast, I truly hope Florida has something better to offer than here.
