Beautiful location and pretty good food. I recommend the gumbo for starters. Staff was very attentive and pleasant even when I asked to split entrees. I've mainly dined out on the patio, but I do recommend dining indoors if you're ordered shrimp or crab legs during the summer months... the bugs will get you!

I liked this place a lot. We sat outdoors and our waitress was friendly and helpful with selections. The food and drinks were good. Convenient, good size portions, and good service.

Had the Amberjack and set on the deck. Fantastic service, oysters on the half shell where good. Overall the experience was great.

Love the atmosphere. It was just a little cool to sit outside with the north wind blowing. We were seated quickly with a friendly hostess. Our waitress Wendy appeared quickly to take drink orders. We ordered the chicken piccata with artichokes and sundries tomatoes. It was a nice twist to one of my favorite dishes. The chicken breast was moist didn't need a knife to cut it. The sauce had a little bite to it. The Gouda cheese grits is the best in Pensacola. The collard greens were served hot and full of flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes had just enough garlic not to be to overpowering. The garden vegetables were yellow squash and zucchini just a little firm not mushy. I love this place. It's worth the drive from Fairhope, AL. A++

I almost didn't go here because of the reviews. We wound up going here because it was close and the food was AMAZING! There was great outdoor seating overlooking the water where you could walk down to the water and sit if you chose to. I'm surprised about the reviews that I read because in comparison to some of the other restaurants in the area, this restaurant seems to outperform. The only suggestion I would make is to improve the service staff. There was nothing particularly wrong with the service but not the best I've had. We ordered: - Seafood bisque (AMAZING flavors, very rich with bits of shrimp in it. Highly recommended. You could definitely taste the sherry in it.) - Oysters Rockefeller - Fish tacos - Shrimp and Mahi Mahi (shrimp was phenomenal - very fresh) Major bonus? They get their seafood right down the street from Joe Patti's.

Great food. Loved being able to sit outside while it was raining so beautifully! Beautiful view and the fish tacos were great! Perfectly moist! Our waitress was just okay. She made a mistake on my order and then disappeared and then came back. It was weird.

We have been to Nick's multiple times and have had a delightful experience with the food, the ambience, and the waitstaff. We've been coming to Pensacola for years and have several favorites, but Nick's has been at the top since it's taken over The Crab Trap

I don't know what the other people reviewing this restaurant experienced but our service was excellent, food was some of the best, and the view is unbeatable. I imagine that before baseball games this is a great place to hang out since it is so close to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos stadium. The shrimp and crab dip was great along with the chips served with it. I got the blackened mahi sandwich and my wife got a flatbread with chicken and sun dried tomatoes. The mahi was spicy and blackened just right to bring out the flavors and make it crispy with a soft inside. It came with fries and cole slaw which I substituted for mashed potatoes and veggies for no extra cost. The flatbread was great, kinda like a pizza! Overall the meal was under $30 with appetizer so it is a good price. The view from the outside seating area is of the bay and the stadium only 20-30 ft from the water. This place is worth a visit for lunch or dinner any day!

An early summer afternoon sitting on the patio, enjoying the gentle breezes, tranquilly enjoying the bay; listening to a bluesy singer. All it took to make the outing perfect was good food and drink. I had a lovely salad with mixed greens, lump crab, and a generous helping of gulf shrimp, topped with a warm bacon vinaigrette; my husband enjoyed his bowl of crab and shrimp bisque. The only thing wanting to make our meal complete was some bread.

We went into Pensacola to see the lighthouse and explore and we were upset when 3 of our restaurant suggestions were closed on Sunday so we found Nick's that was open. We sat outside on the patio. It was gorgeous! Kids had popcorn shrimp and that was delicious, I had the crab spinach dip for an appetizer which was omg..sooo good and my son had the crab claws which were a little high on the price but were very tasty. My husband and I split a platter which was delicious. I defintely will be back!

A week ago myself, husband and five friends went to Nicks Boathouse and arrived at 5:45 pm and waited one hour before being seated, once we were seated we didn't receive our food until 7:30, I asked to speak to the manager on duty and as I began to talk to him about not receiving our food and already waiting 2 hours, he held his hand to me and to me and said in a gruff voice! Lady, I'm busy and don't have time to talk to you. I told him that he was extremely rude and his behavior was unprofessional! The waitress told us that our ticket order had been misplaced, once the manger came to our table to help with our orders I told him what the waitress had stated and he told me that was a lie and that he didn't believe me, my friend spoke up and said that's is exactly what she said, he said, well I'll just have to see if she said that, the waitress then said that she had not said that, I told her to look me in my eyes and tell me to my face that she didn't tell us that, she then admitted that she had forgotten to turn the ticket in. Once we received out receipt it was 9:00 Pm, it took 3 hours and 45 minutes to be seated, served and pay! Outrageous... We will never return to Nick's Boathouse, lousy service and a horrible manager, By the way he did give us all a huge discount, but do to his behavior and speaking to me so rudely, and for a lying waitress, the discount will not change our minds!!

I've eaten here 3 times so far. Grouper Ponchatrain topped with hollandaise. ..so perfectly prepared both times that i wanted to order it a third time but instead chose to get the Snow Crab Legs since my fiancee's were so wonderful before. The crack easy, meat didn't stick to shell and tastes WONDERFUL! Especially dipped into the melted butter they serve you. They have a good variety of sides to choose from which can be substituted and the portions of everything I've ordered were definitely worth the price. collard greens, Caesar salad, cheese sticks... So delicious! I didn't prefer the cheese grits but it was really stepping out for me to order them anyway. And I recommend asking for dressing on the side of your salad. Wendy has happened to be our server every time and now I wouldn't want anyone else. She's so helpful and quick to take care of you, accommodating any needs. She is professional, personable, and friendly! Very consistent in her service. Enjoy their aquarium and beautiful oil paintings or dine by the sea on the patio! Beautiful and romantic view! ! Nicks Boathouse gives a great all-around experience any night! I have always dined between 5:30 and 8pm on different nights. I travel from Dallas and when nearby will now always stop at Nicks Boathouse!

Went there for New Years because our other choice was too busy. They were surprisingly slow for being a holiday. Our waiter didn't seem to care much about us and didn't hear as we would ask for more drinks. First they messed up our appetizer. Our food wasn't good. My husband got some white fish and it was really dry and they messed up his side. Then after I had terrible a stomach ache which may have not been from the food but either way there are way better places to go in Pensacola.

One of the worst dining experiences of my life. The family and I went to Nick's for the first and last time on my birthday. The view is great, to be sure but it makes dining on the patio a VERY BAD idea. Once it got dark and the lights came on, the bugs came out. And I mean SWARMS of bugs. I get that you're going to have bugs when you're outside, but we always choose to eat on the patio when it's an option and I've never had this happen before. They were crawling on the table and falling onto our plates. Other diners got up and simply left while others demanded to be reseated inside. At the point when I saw a 2 inch long cockroach crawl across the floor, we stood up and left as well with food still on our plates. The waitress expressed regret but didn't offer to reseat us nor did we get any kind of break with the bill. Which brings me to the food which was nothing special for the price. I got crab cakes which we average and fish which was bland. My daughter got the crab legs which she said were good and would have been protected from the bugs while still in their shells so is probably a good choice if you're going to chance eating on the patio. Overall, it was an incredibly awful experience, was a terrible birthday memory, and I will never go back.

  • Robert P.

Crab cakes were both sour and overcooked. Shrimp n grits were pretty good, but daughters fish tacos were just meh. Fantastic location right on the water but the food falls short of the price. Service was also a miss, in attentive at best until it was time to pay.

I see all the bad reviews an have to say that I didn't experience that at all! I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner on a Tuesday and was extremely pleased! The view is why we came considering he is a baseball nut and on the patio you have an excellent view of the Blue Wahoos Stadium and of the Gulf. Breathtaking really. As for the service, we had an excellent lady. She was very friendly & helpful making the experience for us quite relaxing. The food was very good! I had a house salad with tomato vinaigrette and that was pretty but the low point of the evening. However I don't think that my dislike of salad dressing is any reason to turn my nose up at the food! I also had the blackened grouper & lobster tail which was very good also! It's my first lobster tail so I can't be a good judge of that. The sides were spaghetti squash & garlic mashed potatoes and they were just perfect! So all in all It seemed to me that the restaurant was an excellent choice and one that I would recommend, but that is just my experience. I hope yours is just as good!

Wow, not even a good try. Great location. Piss poor service & food. You struck out with the bat on your shoulder....location, location, location has to do with value of real estate. When it comes to a restaurant one must perform. You did not.

..This place used to be The Crab Trap. Amazingly, its even worse than that place. Hopefully it will be a Long John Silvers...next.

I actually enjoyed the food. I ordered the grilled chicken and it came with 2 sides the mashed potatoes and zucchini and squash. Very good choices. I also got a cup of the broccoli and cheese soup which was delicious a well. Chicken was cook great and the sides were very good as well. The price point was a little high and the service was a little slow. But I think what you pay for here is the view since it sits right on the water. We actually came at sunset and got to sit on the patio. Really nice.

There are a lot of poor reviews for this place and after going to Nick's we don't really understand why. We came to eat on a Friday evening for a late dinner. The restaurant was not busy at all. There was live music and the staff was very attentive. My wife had one of their flatbreads which was delicious. I had their special that evening which was a steak with oysters and two sides. My dish was ok. The steak was undercooked for what I ordered but I did not complain because I would rather have it pink than brown. The sides were delicious but for the price I paid for the steak it just seemed low quality. This restaurant is not a place I would necessarily recommend for the food, but definitely for it's location and the view. In the warmer months this would be a great place to sit out on the patio and enjoy a few drinks on the water's edge.

I love the location! The food is not that great. We like to come here in the afternoon ( I stress afternoon because the service is so much better), sit outside by the water, have a glass of wine AND If we are lucky watch a pod of dolphins play just feet from our table.

The atmosphere was nice and the whole area was clean including the bathrooms. There was also a complementary salt scrub for use in the bathrooms. The food wasn't that great. I ordered the grilled yellow fin tuna and it was just bad. It was like they seasoned it like a steak. The seasoning was so thick you couldn't even taste the fish and on top of that it was smothered in an okay teriyaki sauce. I literally had to scrap of at least 3 layers of seasoning and sauce to actually see the fish! The actual highlight of my experience was the scrub in the bathroom! Truthfully I wouldn't wouldn't go back and I think it deserves the rating it had.

The good: The location on the bay, the server (attitude only). The rest calls under the bad department. The bad: My wife has a food allergy to seafood (we came for people out of town). She wanted to get a burger, but asked to get the cooks to please sperate it in the grill. I'm an industrial hygienist, I know it's not hard to do. It takes a lemon, a scrubber, and a wet rag, plus two minutes. The server came back and said the cooks would not be able to do it. All I heard was sorry, a minute of my time is not worth the effort. Seriously? It takes a minute and minuscule effort. I think it's worth it for $10.99. Also, the other food orders were jacked up. The shrimp I had hadn't been "deturded", so that ruined my dish. The steak someone ordered was suppose to be medium rare, but it was well done. The kid's hamburger was suppose to be a cheeseburger. We also ordered an appetizer we never received. All in all, if you order $100 worth of food, it should at least be half right. I am guessing I won't be back again. The server, while nice, was not good at her job. The food was extremely sub par. Not a good experience at all. Pass this place until they get their stuff straight, or at the very least, "deturd" the shrimp.

The best thing about Nick's was my glass of water. We ordered the shrimp and Crab dip and it was bland with poorly cut bell peppers. Not to mention, the chips were stale and disgusting. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp, which was good. The shrimp tasted fresh. I ordered the catch of the day, which was snapper (they claimed red, but I don't think it was red snapper). I also added the crab beurre blanc. The fish was bland and severely over cooked. The crab beurre blanc was cold. The rice pilaf was cold and tasted of nothing but green pepper. After I ate about half of the meal, I found a hair in my food. My wife had the grilled salmon, which was also severely over cooked. She had sweet potato fries, which had, what tasted like, apple pie spice. They were unevenly cooked. We complained to the manager and they comped the snapper and an appetizer. They apologized profusely for our experience. If it were not for the other reviews, I'd think this was an off night.

Not my favorite. Great location on water, nice staff, cold beer on tap, but food leaves room for improvement. Appetizers were just ok, crab dip was more dip than meat. Had special fish, ok, but being next to Joe Patti, they could run over and get some fresh stuff.

    (2)
  • Joshua A.

The oysters were great but the fish was over cooked there was a hair in with the bread. The shrimp and grits were ok but the fish house down the street was a lot better. I will not eat here for dinner but drinks and oysters. Over all it was ok tho.

Nice looking place that falls flat almost immediately. Half the staff was hanging out in the side parking lot having a smoke. Always nice to see what the folks cooking and serving your food are doing on their breaks when you pull in. Classy. It's a nice building with a good view, so there's that. But my jambalaya was pitiful...totally bland---basically just an unseasoned mix of tomato, shrimp, chicken, sausage and rice that was worse than any I've ever had. My wife had the crab cakes...they might have been frozen variety...certainly not from Joe Pattis next door. Service was just OK. I'd avoid and go to Crabs, We Got'em...that place blows this joint out of the water.

I came on a Saturday night and was seated right away. We got a seat outside and the view was great. The service was okay, the food came out fast and the drinks were filled periodically. My table ordered the fried pickles which were very good and there was plenty to be shared and take home. I got the surf 'n turf for my main meal. I got the bronzed mahi mahi with the side of mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day(corn on the cob). The fish was perfect and tasted great and same with the corn, but the steak was not very good. I ordered the steak medium and it came out really tough and over cooked. It is a sea food restaurant after all so I wasn't too disappointed with this. Overall the experience was very good.

Absolutely horrible. The server couldn't crack a smile and show any sort of caring. My wife and I are very kind people and treat everyone with nothing but respect. Unfortunately, Miranda didn't feel the same way In addition to messing up my order. Because of her sourpuss attitude I didn't bother to ask to have it fixed. The food was equally awful. I had the Mediterranean Fish Tacos and found them completely bland and tasteless. The cornbread with honey butter would have been a nice touch if it was fresh, warm, and had any flavor. Real shame about this restaurant because it has a really cool ambiance and a nice location. I watched other servers and it was our dumb luck to get the one we had. I think they mostly try but still the food is awful.

  • Phyllis J.

Crab legs were right on the money. The sides I had were Gouda grits and corn, but weren't the best I've had. The waiter was personable and able to answer questions about items on the menu. I had children and it is definitely a kid friendly place. I would definitely like to go back and try the catch of the day. All in all, a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

This place will do fine because it has a great location, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the food. We shared the smoked mullet dip which came with prepackaged crackers (classy) collectively had the shrimp bang bang tacos, coconut shrimp, crab cake sandwich, and.....I don't remember what May dad had. The shrimp bang bang were pretty good but the tortillas were bland and instead of some nice crunchy cabbage, they came with wilted lettuce. The coconut shrimp looked pretty good. The waitress told me the crab cake was popular and had very little breading, but I was underwhelmed by its mushy consistency and lack of good chunks of meat. Plus it was served on wonder bread toast with the aforementioned iceberg lettuce and an insipid tomato. My own review is making me question why I'm giving it three stars, but the service was good, the location is good, and I might be willing to find the best items on the menu in order to come enjoy the ambiance of a kid friendly bay view.

I don't know what happened to these other people when they ate here but my visit was superb. We sat outside in the shade to enjoy the view and nice weather. The staff were very friendly and the food was fresh and delicious. I ordered the chicken chipotle wrap. It comes with coleslaw and fries. Everything was perfectly seasoned. I would definitely stop by again.

Upon arrival I had very high hopes for this place. It's a great looking place, very nice inside and is perfect for dinner while on vacation. It is rather loud inside though. Our waiter was very nice, but we did have a few issues (he didn't know the menu very well, put a lemon on my drink after telling him no lemon, forgot my croutons after requesting them, etc). I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. It was surprisingly bland. I have had some great shrimp and grits at other places, so I thought this would be right up my alley. I have to say the shrimp bothered me most. The dark line area was left on most of the shrimp, and that was a pretty big turn off for me. The price tag definitely didn't match the food.

The service was great! We sat on the porch and loved the view. The cheese grits were to die for. We will defiantly be back!

Oysters Rockefeller was very good. Wife's grilled seafood salad was good. Wished my snapper had not been drowned in a sugary yellow mango sauce. A great piece of grilled fish does not need anything but a little seasoning. Waitress was a bit indifferent. She did not ask if we wanted dessert. The neighboring waitress was much better.

We arrived on a Friday night with a party of 8 and were seated without a wait. This was great because we were heading to the Blue Wahoos game next door. The calamari appetizer was good. The Pecan Crusted mahi was crazy delicious and I'd recommend!! My wife had the crab cakes and thought they were OK. Plenty of food at a fair price. The server, Sarah D, was extremely pleasant and friendly. She seemed to have a strong knowledge of the menu. The service was great! The only issue we had was outside after dinner. Between the restaurant and the stadium side of the parking lot is a wooden deck walkway and it has rotten or broken wood decking; my son's foot fell thru it and he cut his ankle. This needs to be repaired ASAP.

Came with my family and in-laws. We were greeted at the door and sat quickly outside. Great view of the bay and the baseball stadium. Service was perfect and always stayed ahead of our needs. Food was Great! This place is well worth your time to give it a try.

We recently enjoyed a perfect business lunch on the patio, overlooking glistening waters of Pensacola Bay. The blackened grouper sandwich was awesome. Our server (Cara) did an amazing job anticipating the pace of our meal and needs of our table! Great job owners, kitchen, staff and management!

    (5)
  • AngryOldWhiteGuy +.

With all of the seafood restaurant choices in the area, we would NOT return to this restaurant. The outside seating provided a beautiful view - unfortunately, it was downhill from there. The portions (grouper fillet) were very small, especially when compared to the grouper fillets we had for dinner - a much less expensive dinner - the previous evening at a different restaurant in Ft. Walton Beach. The side dishes (twice baked potatoes and cheese grits) seemed to be left over from lunch - they were dry and had a "crust" on them - like they'd been sitting around. I had a dozen raw oysters, and while they were good, I'd much rather have had them inside (at the bar) when I saw the sign on the way out - the oysters,if ordered at the bar, were less than half of what I paid to eat them outside. We would not return to this restaurant.

  • Lori P.

Went here specifically for the Gouda cheese grits. Gouda is a pretty strong cheese so I am baffled as to why I couldn't taste any cheese. They were blah. Fortunately I ordered the shrimp and grits and the sauce in the dish gave some flavor. All in all it was just okay.

  • Michael T.

There is a reason this place is almost empty on Friday nights. Few locals are willing to go back. Only tourists get suckered in by the location. All of the food seems like it just came out of the freezer and into a microwave. The only good thing on the menu were the fruity cocktails. I wish a better restaraunt was at this location so that I could enjoy the view with some well prepared fresh seafood. Its even more annoying since Joe Patti's is just down the street.

    (1)
  • Chris A.

The wait staff here really hustled and food was out quickly. This is the best thing to be said about this place. The shrimp and crab dip was tasteless. The seafood platter was aweful. The shrimp PoBoy and the Oyster PoBoy was terrible too. Overall our experience was not good and we felt bad for the waitress because she was working hard to put out bad food. Typical tourist trap drawing folks in for location and serving bad food. The one man band was incredibly cheesy and could have done without the "show" he claimed to be putting on. I would avoid this one

  • Christine C.

View: great Service: professional Food: AWFUL Crab claw appetizer: freezer burn w/over time in the fryer. Standard cocktail sauce. Mixed platter: Previously frozen fillet advertised as fresh Mahi, tasted like tilapia. No spice just weird butter sauce like you would add to popcorn. Scallops not cooked properly - rubbery like also previously frozen and forced to cook before thawed. The (not) amazing butter sauce, again. Three small grilled shrimp with only one side of shell removed, cooked with much more than tail on, tasted raw in the middle. Crab cake had nice flavor but lacked a cake like consistency. Sides: Grits - tasted industrial - like the way caulk primer smells in a new bathroom Twice baked potato - interesting mix with Cajun flare, came off as a gutted potato with stuffing, not actually twice baked. Threw it all up 20min after leaving.

The salmon is amazing and so is the crab legs. But Anyone thinking of eating at Nick's Boathouse don't do it. Went there the Saturday before Mother's Day. Food was good and serves was ok. Anyways a few days later we checked our bank statement and Nick's Boathouse charged us more then we were billed and more then the tip we added. When we called and asked Nick's about it. The manager said the receipt looked good and my husband did leave a larger tip then what he actually left. Knowing my husband didn't leave that large of a tip because the serves wasn't fantastic, he went in to verify the receipt. It wasn't my husbands signature. He showed the manager his signature on his drivers license and the manager said it was a HONEST mistake. Seriously? A honest mistake? We were refunded the part of the tip we did not leave. And that was that. I feel people should be aware because chances are it has happened more then ones, and the fact that this is illegal.

Don't get it confused: Nick's is not really a local establishment with fresh seafood. Really, it's very similar to a Margaritaville and Bonefish Grille. The food is your standard fried and grilled fare. It's not bad, but it's certainly not exciting. The appetizers were on the pricey side for their portion size, but, like I said, it tasted quite decent. Still, nothing special. I will say that Nick's has a great ambiance and setting. Located right on the bay, it overlooks the water with a great view. The baseball stadium is right next door, and the neighborhood is really turning into something special. I recommend Nick's for a good family meal with a pleasant setting, but if you're looking for exciting seafood, go elsewhere.

I created a yelp just to let people know how frustrating it is to stand there for 15 min and still not be greeted. A line out the door is a good sign to you that u should probably start greeting people. Just fyi

My experience seems to be better than others. If it weren't for the views, this would be a 2.5. I stopped in for lunch and had the crab claws appetizer and fish tacos. The crab claws were alright. The fish tacos were fishy. I left the majority of them on the plate. The Gouda grits were the star of the meal. I'll be back but probably for just appetizers, a cold beer and to enjoy the views. I'd skip this place for an actual full blown dinning experience though.

After just puking up my meal.... I feel the need to write my first ever Yelp review. This is THE WORST PLACE to eat in Pensacola. I live here.... I know. The crab claw appetizer was terrible!..... It tasted like it was frozen and thawed multiple times. Which is very confusing considering Joe Patties is Literally right down the road with fresh seafood to buy. And how do you F-up chicken Caesar salad!?!? It tasted like someone took a bottle of half empty Hidden Valley ranch... And then watered it down...shook it.... maybe... And then threw in a little mayonnaise. So gross! The view is great and our waitress was sweet. That is the only nice thing I have nice to say. Just glad I puked before the e.coli set in!

Prior to moving to Pensacola, I had never been to Nicks and had heard varying things about the quality of service and food. Fast forward to this year and I've made it a necessity for Sunday Brunch. I've had everything on the brunch menu and have not been dissatisfied with any of the excellent choices. Nick's is among only a handful of Pensacola dining choices on the water and is in an upcoming location of western downtown next to the stadium and park. Servers and bartenders are very friendly and courteous. I hope more come to see what they have to offer!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I ordered the grilled shrimp with the vegetable of the day and rice which was $12. Sooooooo VERY disappointing when my order came out. I had six very small shrimp which were over seasoned taking the flavor away from the shrimp. The vegetable of the day was grilled squash and zucchini. They were half raw. The rice was full of butter and half done. This had to be the worst meal I have had in a very long time. The service was just ok. Nothing spectacular. I do not believe I will be back on my next vacation to Pensacola Beach.

My family and I wanted to try Nick's for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. There was 7 in our party and when we asked to move to a sunnier side of the outdoor area the waitress happily set up new tables and we moved to the new location. When our meals arrived all the meals were hot and perfectly prepared. It's very easy to over cook seafood especially when you have 7 meals to prepare; however, they got it all perfect!

Service was good but all the food was under seasoned. We got the ribeye, surf and turf, boil seafood platter, and lobster bisque. The fish on the boil seafood platter was under seasoned and the shrimp was tough but I would recommend the lobster bisque!

The view is fantastic and the food is pretty much standard fare for Pensacola. Our server Cara was very knowledgable and efficient and made our visit special. Had the prime rib special and it was really good for the money. They run a coupon in the PNJ that is buy 1 get 1. Super deal

We had our rehearsal dinner here and had amazing food and service! We were able to bring in the Groom's Cake. They had plenty of room for our 25 guests (including children). Only compliant is that they had a better air conditioner! It was very warm inside.
