Well, imagine my disappointment to go to a place I've been getting texts and emails from for 8 months, to visit again and be mostly dissatisfied. We were seated immediately upon entering around 6:30 so that's good. I present my coupon for a free bottle of house wine and our server brings this italian cabernet to our table. This was one of the first times I've sent a bottle back. Our server was more than happy to take it back and offered us a choice of a California or a Chilean wine and we chose the Cali. It was a good wine so we were satisfied. In meantime, not only did she not tell us about any specialist (she told the table behind us) but it took forever for her to ask if we wanted an appetizer, or to take an order for that. Very nice, she was, but I think something was amiss here. We ordered a spicey crab dip that was neither spicey not had much crab in it. In fact, it was served with homemade tortillas and they weren't that good, either. This item needs serious reconstruction. My husband ordered the ahi tuna (of course, the most expensive item on the menu-there's a pattern forming!) while I got the fish tacos. He loved his tuna but I thought it was overcooked for medium rare. My fish tacos were just okay. I couldn't sense any particular tastes on them at all. And I asked for a substitute of "whale fries" which were actually potato chips. I could have those at home. REALLY????? Ok, they're made fresh but come on. There wasn't ANYTHING noteworthy about them at all. If we hadn't gotten something free here we'd never come to this place and we certainly won't go back. If I do, I'm not ordering anything that takes much effort.

I've been a couple times and have been underwhelmed with the food. The place itself is cute. I got the lobster rolls the last time I was there. They charge you $22 and you get two rolls. They should just charge $11 and give you one roll. I was there for lunch and it was very pricey because of that. I've also had better lobster rolls. I bought a gift card from restaurants.com at a big discount so that's why I splurged on the rolls.

The Bad Let me start with my 3 year old daughters meal. She wanted Mac n Cheese, and it was on the menu for 5.99. When it came to the table, it was Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and it was served with a side of chips. Really, serving a .50 cent Easy Mac with Chips and charging 5.99. I had to laugh because the bill even said Easy Mac on it. My wife ordered fish tacos and they could have been really good, but they were made with disgusting tilapia. We are in the dolphin capital of the world and a seafood place in Parkland serves tilapia. The Good The restaurant was very clean and the service was prompt. The shrimp and corn fritters were very tasty and the lobster roll was fresh and delicious.

My frist time at The Whale was an excellent experience. Fresh food, good drinks, and pleasant wait staff. Our server was extremely helpful in guiding us to good dish options, although everything looked delicious. A cozy restaurant, it reminded me of Kelly's Landing in Fort Lauderdale with more room and a bit newer. If you're into seafood, this is a place to try. There are other options for those that don't like seafood, like sliders, a burger, and chicken. I'd definitely go back!

Food was very tasty--we had conch chowder and clams casino to start and both were good, though potato chunks in the chowder were a little large. The clams, though, were better than I expected--not rubbery at all and the bacon, bread crumb, and pepper topping was crispy, nicely salty, and not overpowering. For entrees, the fried clams and the whale fries (homemade chips) were good, and the shrimp scampi florentine was exceptional--broth was very aromatic and garlicky, but didn't stay with you all evening. The only downside is value for the money--for instance, a Smirnoff-based martini is 9.50--a good drink, but $8 range would have been more appropriate. The shrimp dish was 18.50--again, the dish was great, but 8 smallish shrimp felt a little stingy for the price. And no extras to compensate--there is no bread service and salads are extra. Plus the atmosphere is o.k., but nothing special and the location (strip mall in Parkland just south of west Boca on 441) doesn't add anything to the experience that you would be paying for. Even so, the freshness of the seafood and the quality prep will probably bring us back.

I came in for lunch sat at the bar, the bartender was very nice and attentive ! The place itself is really cute and nicely decorated and plenty of room at the bar however not too many tables. I didn't have an alcoholic beverage but they had a nice selection of everything! I had a nice size side salad raw oysters which were so delicious and steamed shrimp! Everything was great and I saw they have a crab leg deal on Tuesdays so ill def have to check that out !

My hubby and I went there today for a late lunch. It's our first time and we were really pleased. It was packed but running quite smooth for a busy afternoon. Service (Lisa) was quick and friendly. The food was excellent at a fair price. It was the best fish taco I've had in a very long time. The servings were plentiful and nicely presented. This is my new favorite spot! Our steamers were incredible- tasty and not over cooked. Even the fried clamstrips were cooked perfectly.

Restaurant is not fancy. Menu is small. I got the fish and chips. It was just ok. My fish kept falling out of the breading on its way to the tartar sauce. Chips were chips not French fries. The cole slaw was pretty good and I don't much care for slaw. Wedge salad was ok bacon on top was very chewy. Service was fine. See? Just ok. Safe to go and try.

I have eaten here before and I have always loved their menu. Most of all, the Skirt Steak. It comes with awesome onion rings with a tasty sauce on them and salad with chunks of blue cheese. The steak itself is so tender you can't even believe it. The staff is always super friendly, fast, and efficient. If you've never been here, you have got to try it, and If you've been here before, it certainly deserves another visit. I think there are new owners who seem to have made some nice improvements.

We came here for lunch on a Sunday and the place was moderately full. If you are looking for seafood - this is the place to come. Unfortunately they only serve their special "choose your poison" after 4:30 pm. Its where you can pick a certain kind of fish, cooked a certain way and served with sides. That would have worked great for me, but I guess not for today . We started with the spicy tuna lettuce wraps, which were extremely tasty and not too spicy. The peanut sauce it comes with is delicious and not peanuty at all. It complements and tuna perfectly. ($10.95 for 4 wraps) Their salad selection is a bit sad as they only have salads with iceberg lettuce or romain lettuce. I ordered the veggie salad which came with sliced tomatoes and avocado and you can add chicken, shrimp or dolphin for about $4.00 more ($8.95) . The dolphin was grilled well. They only seemed to serve one veggie of the day: broccoli. The service was friendly, maybe a little reserved. Not the most outgoing crowd. Would I come back? Not necessarily. This is probably a great place to come for happy hour and order some appetizers.

Finding an appropriate star was really hard as I am incredibly conflicted about this place. I had a groupon for two lobster dinners and called Monday for Tuesday reservations. I was a bit worried that they would run out of lobsters and voiced my concern - to be told it was no problem because I had made a reservation. She said I could come at 8 or 9 - given what she said I took the later time. Famous last words. We drove 35 minutes to get there, only to be told that 1) they didn't have any reservation for me, and 2) they were completely out of lobster. I had been looking forward to this all day - was really mad and disappointed. Was offered any other entree up to $20 or to come back another night for lobster. Thought about walking out but decided to stay b/c already there. Seriously am not driving another hour another night. But it was very frustrating and really the hostess and the server (who was very nice and friendly) didn't seem to give a damn. The food and server are the only thing giving it [even] one star. The spicy crab dip was good even though I found a shell in it. The special fish with crust was ok - very rich and heavy. My steak was presented weird - it was thin and kind of bent over the mashed potatoes and broccoli so you couldn't see them till you moved it. It tasted good though. Better than the fish. Margaritas also good and served with lots of lime. I stewed at the table for a long time - it totally ruined the whole thing, mood etc. Not fun. Thanks Whale. Didn't help to see lobsters being brought out for another table about 25 minutes after we sat down. Didn't think it worth fighting about at that point. I mean, was I going to grab them or listen to [more] excuses? Besides the obvious move of having a few extra lobsters - I think someone should have made more of an attempt to find out WHY my reservation got lost and compensate me at least $20 to cover gas and time to return. They did comp the appetizer at the end but it was a very bitter meal and experience. Too bad, because if it weren't for this, I really might have come back.

New owners = Amazing food and service now! Tried the almond crusted tilapia this time and it was done to perfection. Great price, great service, fresh fish/seafood. A year ago it was not a top quality fish restaurant, now since the change of owners its unbeatable in the area. Nice place to take the family or have a beer!

Had a Restaurant.com certificate to use and decided to try them out for a late lunch. It was around 3 on a Sunday, the bar was full with football-watchers and a few tables were occupied outside. Ordered the peel-and-eat shrimp for an app, which was pretty standard and good. I got the fish and chips. Fish was perfectly fried although a tad under seasoned, Cole slaw was tasty, chips were fantastic although a few were overdone. My husband got the Killer Whale Mahi, which was a Mahi filet with a shrimp and corn crust. A little too buttery for his tastes but good, and the side veg and mash were done perfectly. Great service even though she was super busy. And absolutely no issues using our gift certificate.

I agree with the current average of 3 stars, 'just ok'. Went with the little ones, which it's a fine place for. Keep in mind that we really like the Whale's Rib in Deerfield. Very different experience, which is fine, just don't' expect the same. I had the whale reuben (cole slaw instead of sour kraut), no cheese, mahi. Was pretty good. It came with the homemade chips and the whale sauce..the latter was very good. My wife had the fish tacos, pretty good. The kids shared a a kids meal fish nuggets...decent. We all had water to drink. All this ended up for $36 with tax and tip. Maybe it's me but I thought it was a drop overpriced for what it was. I might be back.

I stopped by to watch a little bit of sports after an earlier shift at work. It was very comfortable, and the service was nice and responsive. I tried the Whale fries and they were delicious. It has a convenient location for me as I live just around the corner. Will be back to try some of the other delicious things on the menu for dinner

Im always hesitant to try new placest but im glad my bf suggested this. First thing I have to say is how amazing the oysters were. Even though we live in sofl it a hard to find a spot that serves them well. Next id like to say how friendly our server was. He recommended the oysters and rum bucket which also may be one of new favs. Over all it was a great date night and we will def be back.

Four of us took advantage of the recent Travelzoo deal for two lobster dinners and a bottle of wine per couple on a Sunday evening. When I called ahead to make a reservation, I was told that we could come in anytime if we wanted to order off of the regular menu, but that we would have to reserve a few days in advance if we were coming in for the lobster. This turned out to be strange because A. they always have the 1 1/2 lb lobster on their dinner menu and B. because while they had enough lobsters for all of us, they actually ran out of the Lobster Rolls which two of us would have preferred. I actually had a really hard time choosing a star rating for The Whale Bar. On the one had, the lobster, garlic mash side and whale chips were all delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal and our server was very friendly. However, the service was painfully slow and the server kept forgetting to bring things we asked for. They had also run out of those lobster rolls by 7:00pm. I think if I lived closer to Parkland, I would return as many items on the regular menu sounded delicious. However, if I'm not already in the area then I'm not sure if the half hour trip is worth it.

I really wish I had the opportunity to write a review on the actual quality of the food at Whale but unfortunately waiting an hour and fifteen minutes for my food wasn't enough. My brother and I visited whale just this past weekend on a quiet Sunday afternoon. We kindly placed our orders and waited......and waited.......and waited only to ask the waitress what was going on. She didn't even have the courtesy to follow up on our order or the issue when we made her aware of it so we had no choice but to leave. I would have preferred an honest response letting us know that she forgot to put our order in but our time as customers must not have appeared valuable enough. I think this review sums up that I will never return. I hope everyone had LOTS of time to wait for their food here.

This place is in a strip mall on 441 that got hit hard with the recession. I've heard mixed reviews about this place so decided to try it for lunch. Inside...it looks renovated and appeard to be clean. We got there at around noon and the place was empty. We were greeted and drink orders taken. One odd item...was the 'fishy' smell. I've been to many seafood restaurants...and it's usually not a good sign when you smell 'fish'. I ordered the Blackened Dolphin Sandwich with Whale Fries...friend ordered a Buffalo Shrimp Wrap with Whale Fries. I was a bit dissapointed that there wasn't a larger selection of fish to try and only had the option for Dolphin. It took quite a while for our food to come out. Way longer than it should have. The Whale Fries are basically 'home-made' chips. They were hard and cold. I took a bite of my Dolphin and ick! It was the 'fishiest' fish I've have eaten in a very long time. I couldn't even take a 2nd bite. The shrimp wrap was 'ok' so we switched our plates (Jeff is a lover of Tuna in a can....and all that fishy taste). The Buffalo Shrimp was passable..but not really something I'd come back for. Our server didn't bother to come back until we had finished. Overall...skip this place. They actually try to trick you into thinking it's part of the Whale's Rib in Deerfield Beach (that one was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives). Go there instead.

This place is awful, would never go back even if it was free. The menu is week. None of the seafood is fresh except the shell fish that they shuck to order. It's to bad, because this place use to be good, not sure why they changed their menu again. The prices are steep for what you are getting, nothing is fresh and the service is slow. Do yourself a favor and don't go.

Started with the smoked fish appy. It happened to be very good served w/ crackers. I had the fish and chip w/ coleslaw . The fish and chips was lite and made w/ real cod. The chips we're there own special kind there known for and came w/ mustard sauce. The coleslaw was crisp and somewhat creamy. I ordered ice tea it came in a massive cup! As I looked around at everyone's meals from wraps to fish dinners you can't go wrong w/ The Whale Raw Bar!!!!

This was my first visit and I was very impressed with both the quality of food and the service. My friend and I were there on a Monday at 1pm and we had no problem getting a table. We were indecisive on what to order and our waitress was patient with us and gave us time to peruse the menu without making us feel rushed. We decided on the smoked fish dip to start and it was very good. My friend ordered the beef dip and when she asked for a side of aioli sauce (apparently they used to make it but have since discontinued), the waitress was proactive in offering three other side dipping sauces for her to try instead. I ordered the Lobster roll and let me tell you, this was so delicious. The toasted bun and the large chunks of lobster were scrumptious. So were the homemade chips and side of honey mustard sauce. I couldn't eat both rolls, so I ended up taking a doggie bag home. I was happy to have the leftovers and was happy all over again with each bite.

I'm giving The Whale 4 stars because the mid day meal we had yesterday was so delicious and hot - VERY satisfying. They must have just put in fresh oil because the Whale Fries were crisp, light and heavenly. The fried shrimp and Fish/Chips were perfection. We've eaten here every now and again and while it's usually always fairly good, the service is usually ok, yesterday it was spectacular. The waitress was friendly but not on top of you and the beer cold. The Whale fries when you get them hot and fresh like yesterday DO NOT get any better. Whale - whoever was cooking 9/18 around 3 pm should get a little bonus because it was obviously prepared by someone who cares about what they send out that window. Great job. I see the poor reviews before and I would recommend giving this place a shot. Like all restaurants you have your good and bad days, your good and bad staff.

The Whale... Such a impressive name for the incongruous little spot in the relatively new area of Parkland. I was with someone who had a seafood craving, and it was recommending we head here. Inside is kind of an eclectic mix of laid back sports bar with a slightly more upscale vibe. The menu offers your standard raw bar fare, plus some salads, sandwiches and seafood. I opted for the jumbo scallops "whale style" which meant it was cooked with corn and shrimp. The scallops themselves were tasty, very well cooked and fresh. Unfortunately the sides it came with, the broccoli and the garlic mash were both a bit bland and dry. Presentation was clearly not a factor. Very basic! Service was good, and the menu wasn't too adventurous, but they did deliver on the decent quality seafood. Would probably be a nice spot to grab a beer, some seafood, and watch a sports game. I may come back "Once in a Whale..."

I was craving some raw seafood and came across this place. It was ok. I had the raw oysters and clams, which were good until I came to a clam that smelled like a dirty diaper:( I also had a cup of bahamian chowder which is conch chowder. It wasn't really good. It had this thin film of oil on the surface and it wasn't creamy it was more of a tomato base and not much conch. I also had something that was called a ginger ale, but definitely was not a ginger ale. Probably would't come here again.

Love when the staff wants to go home at 930 on a Friday night that they flash the lights on and off above the tables till you want to leave... bisque was oily and crab legs rubber. But the Corona was cold... Close your Kitchen an hour before closing and don't take 9pm guests for dinner. The light stunt was really annoying and we were not the only ones in the restaurant.

FAJITAS AND RITAS! Love this. Came in on a Wednesday, after a TOUGH (wink, wink) day of shopping while on vacation and was so pleased to get a FREE margarita with my order of fajitas. I ordered the shrimp since this is a seafood place! :) They were great. The margarita hit the spot and our waitress was so sweet. I will definitely recommend this place to my girlfriends. And I will certainly sign up for their "Whale Crew" so I can receive coupons and special invitations. Looking forward to a return trip!

Dined here recently exicted about the proposition of "all you can eat" crab legs. After arrival and being seated the crabs took about 20 min to arrive at the table and we're not even whole clusters but broken up legs, alright after finishing those pretty much instantly because there wasnt much there ordered another plate. Same deal took 20 or more mins to bring us a plate of over cooked, loose crab legs. All I can say is that this is unequivocally one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to, if I had a choice between having to drink lead paint or eat at the whale I would prefer the color of the paint be red, that way it would look (and probally taste) more fresh than the crab legs at the whale.

Went on a Tuesday for the all you can eat crab legs, My Baby loves Crab legs, she did devour those legs. I had a Maui Maui it was very good and was not just a small piece of fish. Kinda small, but would do it again.

To say I was disappointed is a massive understatement. I had heard good reviews so I thought we were in for a great time. Well we got there around 8pm on a Wednesday. We were going to have some appetizers and drinks but at 9:30 we were told that the kitchen was closing. So between the just ok appetizers, the just ok service, the slightly overpriced food, and the child's bedtime closing hours, I was extremely disappointed. The menu selection was nothing to write home about either. The only really good thing I ate was the fish dip. Definitely don't have plans to eat there again.

Specials are awesome- Snow crab all u can eat on Tues for $19.99 plus whale fries! Good service, lots of locals and a good atmosphere. We have been coming here more regularly and like it more and more. Still not very good clam chowder and the raw oysters are pasturized and tasteless, but their seafood as a whole is good. Love the fish and chips! Still stay away from sandwiches which are dry with too much bread.0 and stick to basics. I have not tried the scallops, so can not comment.

  • Sean H.

Nice place to hang outside and drink a cocktail. The seafood is poor, the service is poor, the fries are cold and stale. I've been here a handful of times just because I love oysters but I've ALWAYS left feeling ripped off. Note: they are under new management so things may have changed. I was there 2 months ago. But beware, new management is usually a red flag.

A few years ago, I was at The Whale with a group and it was pretty good. However, it was quite a distance from where we live, so we had not been back. We have given this place two more visits and I have to say it has been an overall major disappointment. First visit - One evening in May, my hubby and I decided to use a "restaurant.com" coupon he had received to take advantage of saving a few bucks. Well, for a Saturday night, we were quite surprised how empty the place was. Second, the menu was tremendously scaled back to a one page list that included appetizers, side dishes, and entrees. We were quite shocked. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. As an appetizer we ordered a bucket of steamers. They were OK. as an entree, I had a chicken sandwich with the Whale Fries. Whales Fries are very very salty. My hubby ordered fish and chips and thought it was fine. Second visit - we went last night with our 16 year old daughter. She loves fish and seafood so we thought let's give this place another chance. We again ordered steamers and counted 15 for $14.95. I am not sure if that is a fair price. My daughter ordered shrimp scampi florentine as her entree and talk about overpriced ($18.95), this place should be ashamed of itself. Shrimp were small. Presentation was lousy, rice had hard pieces in it and three little leaves of spinach on the rice? Ugh. Sliced grape tomatoes add to the sadness of the presentation. I probably could make it better than they did. I ordered the calamari appetizer as my entree. No flavor on the batter on the calamari, marinara sauce probably came from a jar, no zesty flavor that such a sauce should have, littte bits and pieces made up the majority of the order, no big pieces. My hubby was happy with his Yellowfin Tuna dinner. The Whale should at least offer bread, include the salad for free for their entrees given their inflated prices. I have no idea how much longer this place will last. I say stay away if you want to save your money.

I don't usually make my way up to that area, I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed eating at the whale raw bar. The service was VERY attentive and friendly. The food was awesome and fresh. Everything we had at the table was enjoyable. From the clams to the shrimp to the mahi mahi. I couldn't stop eating all the goodness at the table. I almost had to be carried out of here I was so stuffed. Check this place out if you want some great food and drinks. The only thing I didn't like was the one person bathrooms! But the food and service will soon having you forgetting about them.

We decided to head to the Whale for a nice dinner one night, and it turned out that while the service was decent, the food was not quite as advertised. The scallops we actually not scallops at all (they were the small imitation ones) bathed in fatty butter. I did not try their other food, however first impressions are usually the correct one.

It's a regular stop for us. As Wendy mentions, great specials. I like the cajun prime rib on Fridays. If you enjoy a french dip, this is a good place to get one and be sure to have some whale fries with it. The seafood fajitas are also one of my favorites here. Tell Alan I sent you and he'll set you up with a good drink at the bar. Enjoy!

I wanted to take advantage of the lobster dinner for two at a new place I had never been to so my family and I headed down to the Whale. However, the waiter we got obviously could care less about us, he was aloof and rude. He didn't deserve a tip on the full amount. We will never go back, very disappointing experience. One positive is the hostess was really nice and went out of her way, even gave us a $10 gift card for the next visit, too bad it will never get used.

I love seafood so much that I wanted to give this place another shot. For this meal, I ordered fish tacos. They were not bad, but not really good either. As my wife pointed out, there is no love put into the preparation of the food, and that would make all the difference.

    (2)
  • Amanda G.

Bar or restaurant seating available so good for sit down or on the go. I got a lobster roll - not phenomenal, but I heard the rest of the food is decent. This wouldn't be my first choice though on the beach. Check something out first and use this as night 2.

Went there for the All you can eat Crab Tue, it was OK. Priced at 39.99 I decided to give it a shot. Waitress was nice however the atmosphere was not the best and the food was not memorable. I loved how the guy that appeared to be the owner kept pacing back and forth without acknowledgement..poor service! Will not return or recommend!

I have been here 3 times. Had Fish-n-Chips, Talapia, and something forgetable. Nice size portions. On each occasion I looked at the food and thought I could make this at home. As another reviewer noted 'there is no love put into the preparation of the food'. I feel that given the quality of the food that the place is overpriced.

This is the first review that I ever have written for a restaurant. I am writing because there are not that many reviews and this place was outstanding. We wanted to find a raw bar that was not smokey like the other raw bar in Coral Springs. The service was great, the food was fresh - we honestly think these were the best oysters we have ever had - AND they had ipswich steamers - which is a hard find....everything was yummy!!

  • Nicole H.

It was ok. I went the 1st week they opened and it was awful but gave it a 2nd chance this week. We went for lunch (4 adults, 2 young kids) and it was $85 and no one drank, which was a bit much for some sandwiches. The food was ok but for an $85 lunch, I expected better. Also, they had a sign posted that said "kids eat free" on Sunday; when I inquired why we were still charged for them, they said you have to order an entree ($20 an up). I think that an $11 sandwich + $5 cup of soup should suffice as an 'entree'. I doubt I'd go back.

I went with friends who r regulars on a Sat nite and 3 mins after the apps(raw oysters) arrived, the salads came and 3 mins after that the entrees came. Clear message: hurry up and get out. Not a relaxing atmosphere after a long work week and no one was waiting for a table either. Also, while the tuna steak was a good portion and cooked med. rare as requested the sides were awful. I ordered the jasmine rice and asian slaw as listed on the menu as sides to go with the terryaki style fish and the rice was 1/2 uncooked and the "slaw' was a minute portion of some wilted veggies like red cabbage and onions(both very cheap items). And there were no consolations offered by the mngr for the 2 mishaps, like a complimentary dessert or beverage as other establishments have in the past for lesser offences. I will never go back and dont recommend it as what does it take to grill a piece of fish, or shuck oysters. The mngr needs to brush up on his managerial skills.

I've been here a couple of time for lunch and The Whale never failed me. My lunch fare usually doesn't include raw oysters or large seafood dishes, so i couldn't tell you how fresh the seafood is. But from my experience with their seafood sandwiches (Mahi Mahi Reuben, Po Boy, and more), I've had a satisfying lunch every time! ...But perhaps I come here just for the crispy, delicious whale chips with whale juice and the entrees are just a bonus! Lol Tip: Happy hour from 3pm-6pm with very cheap house wines and domestic beers

I had a seafood craving and was supremely disappointed. I came in with a friend and was enticed by a Restaurant.com gift certificate (which was another ordeal which I'll spare you the details) We ordered the Ultimate Seafood Platter for Two . Almost 90 minutes later we received a plate of friend, greasy shrimp and fish sticks that looked like they were fresh from Walmart's freezer. Market Price btw for Deep Freeze Season is $44.99.

Friday night!! This place rocks! Full bar all bases taken ! Of course it'll take a little longer for everything , I've been to many restaurants on Fridays and Saturdays ! If you want quick food and drinks? Go to McDonalds or somewhere that's empty! The SoFla way for dining is between 6 pm to 7 pm everyone will come at the same time and everyone orders and wants their food and drinks right away! This place really try to do their best! Problems occurs and things happens. Don't understand that some can be so mean that almost 15 employees have been fired due to bad reviews. I love the Whale ! Food is great ! Good Service ! And Cozy Atmosphere !!

Solid 3.5 stars. So many mixed reviews here. Decided to check out the whale bar after seeing it on FB. Reminds me of The Whales Rib in Deerfield with "whale fries" and license plates on the wall. We started off with the whale fries, they were pretty good. For the meal I ordered a fried mahi sandwich with French fries. The girlfriend ordered a chicken sandwich, she wanted lobster mac n cheese but it was crossed out on the menu. The mahi came out fresh and had a nice crispy batter. The girl also enjoyed her chicken. I'll have to come back and give it another shot.

In Parkland for an appointment right before dinner, we stumbled upon The Whale, a bar with above average seafood selections. We all started our meals with salads. The men loved their Caesars. My garden salad was nothing special but fresh. For an entree I had the Asian Yellowfin Tuna ($19.95). The fish itself was fresh & prepared exactly medium as I asked. It was just encrusted with way too many sesame seeds for me and I really did not taste much Asian flavoring. It would have taste much better with some of the sauce from the Asian veggies that accompanied it. They were pretty tasty! The jasmine rice side was also very good. Husband had the Snow Crab Legs (11b/$24). These were fair & not served very hot. 9 year old had Grilled Mahi Sliders ($11.95). He really like them. Kids meals were reasonable and 10 year old enjoyed his chicken nuggets. On the night we were there a singer performed & she was pretty good! Kudos to our server who kindly tried to occupy our kids with a drawing contest! Overall, a good option for reasonably priced seafood in the Parkland area. Would not go out of my way to come here but would stop by if in the area to try different seafood options.

Where to start... I called ahead to determine if reservation was needed. The hostess said there was no wait. I advised we were about 20min out and he remained adamant that no reservations were necessary. When we arrived we were put on a 20min wait which turned into 36min. The loaded Whale fries were anything but. These fries were barely topped with the advertised awesome extras. We sent em back for a do over and they gave a little extra effort but then the chips were soggy. Our ticket time on our food was well over an hour. My Oysters Rockefeller came out undercooked. My wife's fish and chips were average. All and all, I'd pass on this joint.

I love supporting local businesses/restaurants (small mom and pop shops) over the chain restaurants you can find anywhere and everywhere. This is one such gem. Moms and I went last night b/c it's located in Parkland which happens to be the land of Parks, kidding. It happens to be conveniently located b/w my work and her house and we both felt like seafood (see-food). Moms got there a little before me and thankfully told me it's located off the street a bit right next to a coal fire pizza place, with those directions I was more easily able to locate it. The first thing I noticed is they have a large outside eating area that over looks some fountains, sadly it was bitterly cold in Florida that evening (in the 50's) so we were forced to thaw out inside. But it's a good thing for me to remember next time I want to eat outside. We sat down and my inner goddess did a jump for joy when she spied La Crema Pinot Noir on the menu ($10/glass & $36 for the bottle-not too bad). But sadly, when the waitress finally came over (she was alittle slow with the greeting part) she said they were out of it #boo. So, I ordered a Bloody Mary instead (why on earth it's dinner time?) Answer: it had a shrimp and I was hungry. It was very tasty. Done On to the food... Moms gets all excited b/c they have an oyster po' boy and she really loves oysters. I'm undecided on what I want to eat, fish?, snow crabs? I dunno everything is Market Price (MP) and there's no board up saying what's in, what's not, and what the prices are. I hate this to be honest. I hate having to ask "what's the price on the Grouper, the snow crabs, the scallops, etc?" it makes me feel cheap, but really pricing sometimes steers my decision if I presume it's a 'good deal' or good value for my money. Moms orders the oyster 'po boy... and the waitress shakes her head "no", they don't have oysters b/c the ones they got were "bad" and they had to send them back. Would've been nice if maybe there was a BOARD that said -we are out of La Crema (insert sad face), we are out of oysters (double sad face), scallops are $20, a pound of snow crab is $43.99, Grouper is $21.99, wouldn't it? Now, I noticed one of the other reviewers mentioned this same phenomenon with the oysters so I don't know if it's common or they just have a bad supplier??? Anyhow, Moms orders the scallops "whale style" with veggies and mashed potatoes. With that order finally accomplished, I ask prices (grrr)and decide on the Mahi Mahi "whale style' which the waitress is in totally shaking her head 'Yes' as I'm ordering as it's the 'best'. Well that's reassuring.... and she wasn't lying. Perhaps based on the motif I thought it was going to be like American Grille - Landlubbers style esq, but boy were we in for a treat! The fish was amazing! HUGE piece of fish, covered in this Ritz cracker (maybe?), herbed, buttered stuffing/bread crumb, smattering of joy is what I will call it, with small shrimp on it. OH LORD, it was good. Even the veggies were amazing, I ordered double veggies. Big pieces of carrot cooked to perfection, string beans, covered with some roasted corn bits. #fatgirlclap Mom and I were both shocked how good our meals were. So, we are both definitely going back, the food was 5 Star, they just have to add some finishing touches to get this place up over the hump.

This used to be my favorite casual restaurant. It's changed owners a couple times and service has really gone down hill. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered them. My husband's beer was flat and the waitress didn't even notice. When he pointed it out , there was no apology. No one seems to care. She got him a bottled beer and didn't offer a glass. The owner seems to just sit around and chat with his friends. Very disappointing.

We love this place! Other than the fact my online reservation was never confirmed, our experience was perfect! After I didn't get a confirmation via email, I called and was given a reservation right away. Being a creature of habit, I had to get the lobster rolls, and my friend did also, based on my recommendation! They are SUPERB! Light, not too much mayo, so fresh and delicious! My husband loves the fish tacos, and our other friend loved his grouper sandwich. Of course we had to start with a double order of whale fries, and our request for extra sauce was met with a smile. Our server was EXCELLENT! Friendly, attentive and professional.

Went here tonight for the 1st time because we had a $10 off coupon. Menu is very small. I'm not a big fan of places that put on the menu market price and you really have no idea how much your paying until the check arrives. We had 2 orders of the Tuna Steaks and at $18.95 each it was a portion for a child. The warm peel and eat shrimp were good. The Whale fries were good. Our waitress was having an argument with 3 customers right in the middle of the restaurant over an issue on their check which went on for 15 minutes. Honestly I would not come back here again. Sorry Bye

We went there on Easter Sunday at 7:03 to a half empty restaurant and the bartender yelled that they stopped serving at 7. We had been on the road all day and asked if we could at least give our newborn some water and take her to the bathroom but she stared us in the face and said "Rules are rules buddy!" I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN HERE AGAIN!

This place is a casual family friend joint. Lots of parking, half way decent patio to wait. The inside is very casual with TVs and a decent bar. The food was mediocre at best. It was good for a casual family meet up but definitely not a nice date night kind of place. The service was very nice and everyone consistently checked in on us.

The inside of the restaurant is inviting and had a nice crowd but looks are deceiving. I ordered the lobster bisque and it was good. A little salty but still good. The fried calamari came out and wasn't hot or warm... Kind of cold. I received another dish of calamari that was hot and tasted as if it was prepared fast and came straight out and the server said it was an extra dish. My boyfriend asked why she gave that to us and she said because the first dish didn't look too filled with calamari... So I guess the rest was given to us even though it should've been that way in the first place. Then the oysters came out. They looked disgusting. There was maybe 3 out of the dozen that looked decent. I tried one and it tasted alright I tried another and it was creamy stale texture instead of a smooth gelatin. They were all like that. They didn't look big and succulent and whoever shucked them did a lousy job. I'm a huge oyster fan/lover and know my seafood. The oysters I got here was dried and looked like they were sitting out for a while. I sent them back and got it taken off my bill. The only thing I did really enjoy was the conch fritters. Those were hot and yummy. Cooked/breaded perfectly. The sauce that goes with it, close to a spicy mayo dip wasn't my favorite though. I would not come back and waste another penny on this so called oyster/fish place.

Haven't been in a few years and couldn't be happier with my visit, stopped in with one of my boys, had some steamers and some shrimp, food was great, my server Jennifer could not have been more pleasant, can't wait to go back, no draft beer was my only slight disappointment, highly recommended!!!

Used to be regulars until one night we went and I had the tuna. We were a large party and spent a lot of money. We do all our family gatherings there and are well known. When my dinner came and the fish tasted like a wet dog. I told the manager I did not like it and was told I will still be paying for it. At the end of the night when we were paying for the bill the manager told us she ate the tuna and it was good - eeewwwwhhh!!!! I called later and spoke to the manager and she stated she would send a gift certificate for $25 and remove the charge from my credit card - neither ever happened!!!!! Never again -

This place is local to us and my wife and I love going there to share a Lobster Roll (too big for one), with their Whale Chips and a couple of beers. This past visit they had Victoria beer (Mexico) on special for $1.00 a bottle. A lite dinner for two with tax and tip for $30. Can't go wrong with that!

3.5 stars. This place is located in an out of the way strip shopping center. It's clean, well lit, staff is friendly and there is outdoor seating out back by the lake, where there are a few tables. Dress is casual. The lobster bisque was very tasty although no chunks of lobster to be found. The mussels were very tasty but a little on the small side. We asked for extra bread to soak in the delicious garlic and white wine sauce but the server forgot to bring more bread. The lobster rolls are served as one large roll cut in half. It's pretty good but was short of the most important ingredient--lobster! We were pleasantly surprised to see that the rolls were served with fries, which are really home made potato chips. They came with a honey mustard esque dipping sauce and they were really good. The molten lava chocolate cake was excellent. It was soft, moist, gooey, and mild in flavor.

New owner. Went there and the oyster guy hadn't shown up to drop off oysters. We were there on a Saturday afternoon. The menu is smaller , no conch fitters. I was told that a new owner bought the place a few weeks ago. You can tell, the place just doesn't have the same vibe. The fresh seafood case that was on the bar was moved to the back, I don't know something seems off. I'll wait to see some more reviews before I head back. Can't recommend this right now, Stay Hungry!

So we decided to come here when we were told to go to seafood world. Here is the short and skinny. Guess we should have known at 7pm on sat and the place is not busy not to stay. *cant find the place but that's not a big deal *the service was mediocre given by candee. I mean we are spending money here so please act some what interested. Geez. drinks were eventually filled and plates were on the table after we paid and walked away ??? She also didn't thank us and wish us a good night ?? Really bad ... * the food... Ok so we ordered 1/2 lb of snow crab which was pitiful. The legs were so small and you get 2 ity bity clusters for 15$ joke... We ordered lobster bisque which was ok Conch fritters which were spicy and oily Dinner was the skirt steak which was drowned in balsamic and overbearing. The onion ring was very greasy The clam strips were soooo small. You can totally tell they are previously frozen. But they were ok regardless of the size. In short .... Don't waste your money.

NO STARS. The worst run restaurant I've ever been to. This was my third time here, each time is worse than before. The only reason I went was that our friends invited us. The whole front of the restaurant was empty, but they wouldn't seat us (party of 5) or another group of 6. They kept telling us a few more minutes. Meanwhile, at the bar, the bartender gave me the wrong drink and then ignored us afterwards. The host admitted to us that they weren't sitting us was because the kitchen was backed up. As he is telling me this I see the rest of the staff mostly standing around, talking to each other. I walked by the kitchen and saw tons of plates sitting up there, with no one running the food. Meanwhile I see other tables sending their food back. Finally we overheard the manager tell the host to get rid of the other party because "it looks bad that people are standing around up front." She should've been more concerned about her staff not doing anything.

This was our first visit. Unfortunately, my daughters chicken bites had a hair in one of them. I told the waitress and she took the one piece away and did not offer to bring out a new plate of food. I ordered the shrimp wrap and it was awful. I also ordered the conch fritters and they were way too spicy and not in a good way. I don't want to bash this place, as the manager was nice and she did comp us my meal and my daughters. We paid for the conch fritters and drinks. However, the food was really bad. I mean, bad enough, to never return. Sorry, but overall bad experience.

This restaurant is in a somewhat unbusy strip mall set back from SR7, actually not noticeable from the road, but it's worth seeking out. It has a nice raw bar decor inside but nothing special as is typical with this style restaurant. We went on Friday evening and we got seated immediately. Not that busy for a Friday. Our server, Sean, was excellent. Very attentive and friendly and refilled our waters and soda very quickly. We asked which soup was the best and he recommended the clam chowder which is made in house. It was very good, nothing special, but it's just a good clam chowder. We ordered the lobster sandwich and warm peal n eat shrimp. The warm ones come with Old Bay seasoning and melted butter. Both dishes were right on. If you've had a lobster sandwich in Key West, you won't be disappointed with the Whale's version. It actually is two sandwiches per $22 order plus Whale chips which are basically homemade unseasoned potato chips. They come with a dipping sauce which works nicely. The photos we took show only half of the two lobster sandwiches you get with one order. We will definitely be back. Apparently there is a Maine lobster entree available on Sat & Sun.

The worst service I ever saw. Food was poor and cold. Waited over 1 hour to get served then only half the table was served and we had to wait again The only good thing was the band No Direction. They were good

The fried clams and they were lightly battered and fried to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised how good the whale fries where (fresh potato chips) they come with whale sauce (a unique blend of honey mustard). The rock shrimp is out if this world! The place is Kinda a dive, but I love that about it. Defiantly going back soon!

OK. So, we visited 3 years ago and did not have a great experience. Tonight we gave them another chance. Server, Rachel, was perfect; pleasant, smiling, a gem! Food did not disappoint. We had the peel & eats; which were of good size and cooked perfectly. Wedge salad and quesadilla were spot-on. But my issue is the timing and response to our food being delivered. It took 25 minutes for said items, well after 8 o'clock when the place had emptied out. The new owner is sipping his white, then red wine at the bar, oblivious of his establishment. The pregnant manager is running around trying to keep said owners place running. In the end, they did nothing to apologize for the late meal. I doubt I'll give them another chance.

The food was amazing had the grilled yellow fin tuna and peel and eat shrimp and salad. Unfortunately, the service was aweful and the General manager was inept and nasty. My friend and and my sister ordered salmon. My friends salmon was half the size of ny sister. We told the host he agreed that the salmon was different sizes. Said he would tell the chief and proceeded to ignore us the rest of the night. The waitress called over the General manager who told us we were wrong and the salmon was the same size and there was nothing she could do. She proceeded to say the waiter was new and basically said we were trying to get something free. She than said she would make another piece even know we were wrong . Like i said the food was great the service was abominable.

New to the area and decided to give it a try. Good vibe to the bar. Mostly locals. Conch fritters were delicious and had a nice kick chicken tacos were tender and moist. Blackened Mahi sandwich was nice and fresh. Drinks nice and stiff. It's our new Friday night spot.

First time going to the Whale and my wife and I agree we'll definitely be back again. The food was fantastic, huge portions, freshly prepared and add to that Greg our server who made us feel so welcome. We sat outside and it's beautiful out there. The canal with the fountain makes for an outstanding view. We had the spinach and crab dip for an appetizer and the dip with their tortillas was great. It was full of crab meat. My wife had the skirt steak which she loved and I had the scallops whale style. I've never had scallops like this and I would get it again. The kids got chicken and fries which were also large portions and they loved them. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Terrible service, I actually at one point had to walk up to our server and ask if they had any Blue Cheese to have with some celery sticks my daughter was eating, and he said "No, we don't have any." Fortunately, a woman who appeared to have some authority said "Uh....yes...we do...we'll have it sent to your table." How embarrassing. The server had already: 1 Forgotten to place any napkins on the table. 2 Walked by about 5 times without looking to see if drinks needed refilling 3 Forgotten to bring Crayons he suggested to our youngest. 4 Brought chips instead of Fries with one of the meals. Had a bad night I guess. But the food was definitely C-minus stuff. The shrimp I had as an appetizer tasted like I was eating a rubber dog toy. ZERO taste, just like a piece of rubber. Place looked grungey and servers looked like they could use a shower. Run.

False advertisement! We arrive at 630 for a table of 10. Our server was a young guy and not knowledgeable at all! He did try his hardest to serve us but he brought the wrong number of plates, the wrong number of silverware and then the wrong number of menu (all different numbers too). He mixed up the drink order and told us the sangria was for 1 even though once we received it it was definitely for 2. The food was OK. It was not anything special or anything we would want to return for. It wasn't bad. We have fish tacos, almond crusted tilapia, fish and chips, mahi sandwich and a chicken philly all were mediocre and needing salt! The problem came at the end of the meal. The sign in front of the door states " All month long, kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree" We assumed that meant our 2 children's meals would be free. When it came time for the check which was well over $200, the childrens meals were included in the bill. When we questioned the server on why they were on the bill, he informed us that discount would only be applied if we had a coupon from a book. our response? uhh what book? The sign has NO MENTION of a coupon being needed. So after us going back and forth with the server, with his comments including, well if your a local you would of known (WTF?) and its only on Monday or you need the coupon, we asked to speak to his manager. He never did bring the manager. He came back a few minutes later saying well she agreed to waive the children's meals.. but you need to bring the coupon. Um NO!? So we again went through with him that the fact that the sign makes no mention of this. and they need to update their sign! they are providing false advertising by that sign. (i doubt they will even update that sign) In the end we had the fees waived but it was very poor service on their behalf for us to basically convince them they were wrong after spending so much money in there establishment. We argued with the waiter and his manager for a good hour before they waived the charges. a total waste of time when clearly it was their mistake. never again.

We went to the Whale because a worker at my wife's office (who lives in Parkland too) recommended the restaurant. Quite honestly, I have nothing positive to say. The service was bad, the food was below average, the portions were small and the price was too high for what we had. Seems like they do have "regulars" though. Why? Because it seemed the wait staff and management spent most of their time waiting and having conversations with them as we waited and waited and waited. Bottom line, I wil never return to this restaurant again.

Found by accident in a very nice open mall set back from Route 7/441 on the stretch b/n Palmetto Park and Hillsboro. Divey but seemingly clean; reviews were mixed with an obvious owner review thrown in (the white dog 5 star review...tone down the self promotion, dude!) Nice white sangria, all citrus but strong, decent amount though $10 earned it. Raw oysters were 1/2 great with 2 losers out of 6 - at $8 for 6, they should all be winners, Jack. Still, shucked clean, tasted good to fine. Fried clams nominal, though home-made fresh chips were phenomenal! Veggie salad was good, though Swiss cheese seemed out if place with sprouts, etc. Would have given a 4 star but the oysters either weren't clean or fresh enough...those 2 runts gave me the runs.

Just had dinner at the whale. Food was awesome. My husband had the mahi Reuben. The fish was incredibly fresh. Lobster bisque was very good. We shared a bowl. I had the ultimate burger. Portions were all large. They are known for their whale fries, which are addictive. Good service, very friendly owner! Will definitely go back!

The food is good here. The service not so much. Every time I come here, I end up waiting at least 15-20 minutes for my food. I first came with friends and thought maybe they weren't serving us first come because of our age. The another time when I came with my family, I experienced the same thing. On top of that most of the staff are older waitresses that seem to have been tainted by the business. They snap at everything and seem really impatient. I felt super rushed along, like they were dying to go on a cigarette break. I only make that assumption because I could hear them in the back and I have worked in restaurants with older waitresses before. Other times I've walked in and stood at the door for a while and just left because no one seated me when the bartender clearly saw me. I was kind of surprised especially because the prices are outrageous especially because Bru's Room is walking distance and serves almost the same exact food. I probably won't be come back here unless I see the staff changes.

Chips -absolutely great. Fish? Can you say "frozen. Captain D's are better"? A specialty, fried clams, unavailable either night. Service - good night 1. Service on a much less crowded night 2 -- bad. Good looking place, good location but no sense of itself. Hate to say it but I doubt we will be back.

I've had a few ups and downs with this place. They're back up on the high for me. The last few times we've been here service was terrible and we almost vowed never to return. We decided to go again since we liked the food. It's great to know that it seems like they've gotten things together again. The service is back where it should be. My only complaint is regarding communication: if you don't have an appetizer, let us know from the get go. It's very disappointing when you have your hopes up to eat a specific dish and told that they no longer have it at the time that you order. Take it off the menu or inform customers from the very beginning. That is all. Great food...a bit pricey for what it is but I'll still pay it from time to time.

I've been here a few times and the most recent visit was the best. There is a new Owner and you can certainly tell as attention to detail has been instrumental in making better dishes, better service and a better experience. I had the Asian style Yellofin Tuna and my wife had the fish tacos... we were extremely impressed with both dishes.

Waited 5 minutes to be seated never saw a hostess. Sat our selves asking the waitress and bar tender if table was ok. Ordered and after 1 hour of no food, others after us served and finished and continuously told it would be right out, we left. Never to return. Stay away.

Wedge salad was awful, lettuce wasn't even a wedge, very little tomato and it was drowning in blue cheese dressing, other food at the table was awful too. The prices were a bit high for the portion and quality of food. Gave this place a second chance today after not returning for many years because it wasn't that good then, it hasn't changed, won't go back again.

On Memorial Day, I stopped in here after craving oysters. I was hesitant because of some of the reviews I had read, but decided I would give it a go. We were the first to arrive when the restaurant opened, so we didn't have to wait for a table. Our server quickly took our order and made some recommendations. The food turned out to be really good and they had some decent drink choices. I had the Reuben with a twist: mahi mahi instead of corned beef, raw oysters, and fried clams. All of it was very good with the exception of the clams; they were a little too crispy and lacked flavor. All in all, the server was very nice and astute. I would come back next time I have another craving for seafood.
