Fast and Good Service! Yes! I am usually a little iffy going into Steak and Shakes, being that its usually slow and greasy. This time it was great! I visited on a Sunday once I found out kids are free (with a $8 purchase) Our server was new so she confirmed it for us. I was also a little worried because we were seated at a small booth that my son had to sit alone across from me (being that he is active I was worried this wouldn't work out). Surprisingly he sat well the whole time playing with the paper car that he was given with his menu. Once we placed our order we did not wait long at all for our food to arrive. My drink was refilled timely and we were taken care of well. This was a great experience and I will be returning.

I have been by this location numerous times but not recently. Well today my granddaughter was in the mood for some Steak n Shake and the since we were headed to Lake Eola, we figured we'd just stop at this location... We were greeted promptly and I requested to sit in her section because of the fast greeting. In retrospect, that was not a smart move on my part. She took our drink order which was coffee, a small chocolate shake, apple juice and two glasses of water, one with lemon. She returned with the coffee, shake and water but forgot the apple juice for my granddaughter. Fortunately she was a good sport about it but at the other stores, they always make sure the kids are taken care of first. My granddaughter wanted to corn dog kids meal and I wanted a bowl of chili topped with fresh onions and lots of cheese. I also ordered the Jamaican double burger and fries on the $4 menu. My wife had eaten earlier so that was all we ordered. My chili arrives and it was topped with fresh onions and cheese BUT instead of topping it with extra cheese, more cheese was given to me in a cup. No big deal at first except my chili was cold and the extra cheese would not melt in cold chili. The rest of our order arrived and the kids meal was fine. Pretty hard to mess up corn dog nuggets and fries. My burger was fine but the fries were cold. During our meal, our server never checked to see if I needed more coffee. My cup was empty before my burger was delivered and she never offered to refill my cup. She did however manage to bring us our ticket and I just went to the counter to pay my bill. The manager asked me how my meal was and I let her know about my chili being cold. I never bothered to let her know about the rest of the issues but this was NOT what I have come to expect from Steak n Shake. What bothered me most was when my granddaughter let me know how dirty the bathroom was after we left which my wife confirmed. Kids Meal - 3 Chili - 1 (I prefer my chili to be hot) Burger - 3 Fries - 1 (I prefer my fries to be hot) Service - 2 Ladies Bathroom - FAIL I suspect that my server was the main cause of my food being served cold because she did not appear to have much pep in her step. Not checking on my coffee cup AT ALL is a FAIL. I should not have to ask for more coffee. Finally... When an 8 year old says "The bathrooms at Lake Eola are cleaner than the bathroom here" and my wife confirmed the condition of the ladies room, that does not make me want to return any time soon! Normally I take pictures of the food but I was more concerned about spending time with my granddaughter than taking foodie photos...

This place is way to hit and miss for me. Sometimes its good but other times its bad. When I say bad I mean really really bad. My most recent experience was the worse. I was starving so I popped in the drive through and ordered a Frisco Melt. The wait was a bit long but thats cool because Steak and Shake usually delivers the Dankness. Not at this location. As you can see in my photo, my Frisco Melt was more like A hamburger I make at home between 2 loafs of sandwich bread because I did not have any buns available. In my opininon, this is absolutely inexcusable and I will be contacting corporate for a resolution.

The cool thing about this location are the locals that eat here. You will see some of the most adorable older couples out for lunch. It's great for people watching. Once we getting ready to leave and a server brought a box of cupcakes to our table, saying a regular customer had brought them in for the servers and since there were extras he wanted us to have some too. Who has ever heard of a customer bringing cupcakes for their servers? That could only happen here. The food is consistently good (those milkshakes are the best). I have noticed the menu has changed a lot over the years, but my experience has been that I can still order my usual order even if it's not listed on the menu. The servers are nice, but they always seem to be really behind. On our most recent visit we were lucky and had a server who was really on top of things so our service was pretty fast.

Service was awesome, she was friendly. I give you guys a low rating because our food took just about 50 minutes to come... We ordered two chicken tenders, two burgers and a hotdog. It took so long and when it was brought to us presentation was disgusting. I didn't even my hotdog. The sever was very nice and understanding, so was management. I just wish you guys would care more about your food. Oh and last the bathroom smells like hobos live in there. It smells like aged fish and cheese. Pleaseeeeee fix that. I don't want to feel like I'm eating in a disgusting place.

Cheap food, good shakes, slow but friendly service. The place could use a good cleaning. Bacon burger was on point.

Steak 'n Shake has always been a wonderful place to grab a quick meal with an awesome shake. My experience was not bad at all compared to the other reviews. I went here on a Thursday night after an event in Orlando. We waited a few minutes to get seated & our server come over quickly. The inside looked clean & felt decent. The shakes & food was the typical style at theses restaurant chains. The Men's bathroom was dirty & had no paper towels. Granted you can use the dryer, but I wanted to use paper towels to clean off my face. The server was friendly, efficient, & attended to our needs in a reasonable amount of time. Only negative thing was it took a while to get a refill on my water. The birthday cake milkshake was not too good either. I suggest on skipping this one in my opinion. My favorite shake is the Strawberry/Banana shake. Yummy! If you are in a need for a quick meal or a great shake, hit this Steak n' Shake. If not, I suggest maybe skipping it.

I am from Indianapolis, home of Steak N Shake, and I have eaten there for years and years. I now live in Orlando, and I have to say that the food quality has really gone down hill. My burger today just didn't taste good like it use to do. I ordered the egg nog milkshake and it was very gritty. Yuck. I think I have given up on Steak N Shake for good. I think they have gone to poorer quality meat in order to keep prices low. What a shame. This use to be the UPSCALE place from fast food burgers. Not any longer. Just nasty.

Always great for a cheap meal and great shakes! We come here at 3 times a week and always have Chris take care us. She is great and very good at her job. I love the California Burger and the Strawberry milkshake...YUM!

We all know this is a greasy food joint, & there it doesn't disappoint. Our food was warm, greasy, & good. Service friendly, quick & attentive. However, I have 2 gripes as to why I gave low rating; the bathrooms & the wait to be seated that always takes several minutes of standing before ever being acknowledged. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting. So much so, you really wonder if you should even be eating in a place w/ such a filthy restroom. Everything (in the restroom) needs a serious deep clean wipe down, including the door going into bathroom. Grimy, greasy, & filthy. When I was there, no toilet paper in the standard stall at lunch time, so had to go to disabled stall. Then, no paper towels - in either dispenser. Just gross. Every time I arrive, no one appears or acknowledges me waiting to be seated for a very unreasonable amount of time. Every time. Very irritating. Why is the cashier the hostess, instead of 2 separate positions? I've seen so many people just walk out, me included. I don't go here w/ big expectations but these are basic things that should be standard everywhere.

The place is kind of grimy and the employees seem unhappy even having an argument with the manager in front of me, but you cannot beat a burger and fries for $3.99! I got the garlic burger, which was dripping in greasy delicious garlic sauce. The fries were average but decent. I think my review may be clouded by the fact that I hadn't eaten in 8 hours and I just worked out, but I'll definitely try it again. Open 24hrs too!

Food here is pretty consistent. I went yesterday and my chicken finger order was messed up, they said they had to cook it over again. So I waited the five minutes and they came back with chicken, fries, and two cookies! Their customer service is excellent and I really appreciated the extra thought. we usually come here for the drive through and we haven't really had an issues.

Took the grandkids there for dinner last night. It was a tossup between Mc D's.. Burger King.. Taco Bell. The service was fast.. We were seated promply by a very friendly person. The food was cooked to perfection..even if it was fast food.. and the kids had fun. Nice place. It was very clean.

Don't waste your time. I have been in here twice and left twice. The first time I went in and waited to be seated after about 8 minutes and flagging someone down (in a restaurant that was less than half full) we were seated. Another 10 minutes passed without anyone coming to take our drink order and there were servers everywhere. So, we left. The second time I stood at the front waiting to be seated and nobody even spoke to me. I know they saw me but they completely ignored me. I waited almost 10 minutes and even tried to flag someone down and was still ignored. So, I left. This time with no intentions of ever returning. HORRIBLE SERVICE, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!

I'm from Texas so I never heard of Steak n Shake before. I noticed there were several of these all around Orlando so I wanted to give it a try! Just my luck I didn't go to a very good one. First of all, the service was GREAT. There were two very tentative waiters who really made sure you were served. They were extra nice and seemed good in spirit. The BAD part is though is the food. I can't complain too much because overall the place is really cheap for a sit down restaurant. Most of the items run around $3.99 and up. I ended up ordering the classic burger with fries (for that price) and wasn't too pleased. The "toasted buns" were not really that toasted and worse of all the two patties were soaked with grease like a sponge. When I squeeze the burger the slippery oil runs from all the meat pores and slides down to a nice shiny puddle on the plate. The fries that it came with were not very hot when I first got it but wasn't too bad. I didn't finish it or bother to use ketchup. Had I not received the great and friendly service, this place would have gotten two stars only. I feel I want to support those waiters who work hard to serve us. The food on the other hand, perhaps it was a hit and miss. The other steak n shake I passed by were filled with cars in the front but this one I went to didn't have too many (I went around 4:00 pm). Give it a try though, there were still a few crowds of people coming in and out happily. You might have better luck.

I love the shakes here and my daughter and I decided to get in and have one with some lunch. I almost did not make it past the door. We stood for over 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged out existence. The management was working the grill rather than organizing the chaos. Moments away from walking out past the long line of people waiting to pay fearful that I couldn't get a seat at one of the many dirty tables a server came by noting that two groups before me had just left. She cleaned a table and sat us down. It was nearly 20 minutes before the same server asked if we had been helped yet. We had not, so she took our order. The food was good, but as we waited another gentleman who came in after was also neglected and was vocal that it was the third time that had happened to him there. Another table constantly had to flag down another server to get some things they had asked of their server but did not see. Overall, (and I rarely say this) I will not return to this location for any reason. I cannot think of another occasion where I have received more deplorable service.

I have never had bad service or bad food here. I wish we had these in Pennsylvania. Its def a change to always going to a greek diner. The coca cola is soo good because its fountain and bubbly. Pros If you like soda floats, this is the place for you. Cheap prices means a cheap date. lol. A couple can get their meal for $14 or less. Food is always fast. Open 24/7 Cons The french fries need to be meatier. The oreo cookie sandwiches would be better in a sundae. Sometimes you don't want to hear the drunks enter the place screaming at the top of their lungs.

3am snack on the way to Ft,. Lauderdale a few years ago. Bitch waitress was a bitch. And slow- the place was empty. Unusual for this location and time of night. it was mid-week-though... Got breakfast foods, nothing was outstanding or substandard. Left bitch waitress a 15% tip, which was 15% more than she deserved, and much less than I would leave for excellent service. PSYCHO BITCH waitress followed us out to our car and commenced to screaming at the top of her bitchy lungs, "WHERE IS MY FUCKING TIP?!?" Apparently, she hadn't been able to see the money we left because she hadn't yet cleared the plates from the table...or she had gone temporarily blind from bat shit craziness. Whichever. Umm, we have not returned to that SnS location since.

My brother said this is the In-N-Out of the East Coast (I would have thought Five Guys was... but Five Guys is now on the West Coast....... so...) but my sister-in-law says it's not... I don't think so... the fries were pretty good... the burger.. it was a burger... I cannot compare to our In-N-Out! I thought this was a fast food place when we drove past it.. but since we went in to try the place (brother had a gift certificate).... It's actually a sit down restaurant.... I kind of expected more... but I think this place is comparable to Johnney Rockets.

These people are always nice to me when I roll through the drive thru for a delightfully greasy burger, fries (that damn Frisco melt!) and a shake. They always get my order right and seem happy enough even though I suspect working in fast food is not the thrilling or glamorous gig. I have never been possessed with the desire to eat inside when I can take my greasy/tasty food home and and catch up on Tosh.0 on the DVR.

Guys, I just drove through here. It's been a while since I ate at a Steak and Shake, but this was really quite tasty. My favorite is the Frisco burger, with a side of fries or chili. It's a great place for teens to go after a movie, for example. They're open late. They tend to be clean, friendly, and affordable.

Not waiting for the third strike to say "no more"! Service does not exist . Wait to be seated, wait to take order, wait for food, wait for check. This has been our "go to splurg" for fast food for over 60 years. So very sad to see all the changes are for the worse.

Yum! I had never been to steak and shake, so I wanted to try it. Great old fashion burgers, and new burgers! Great fries, great service, great shakes! I'd eat here all the time with these prices!

This dismal and dirty diner leaves a lot in the mouth less to be desired. This particular location is known for it's long wait times, even when it's empty. It is often understaffed, or the service is poorly trained. While the servers can be nice, they tend to talk too much smack behind the drink counter. On one occasion, a woman and her boyfriend who had been waiting quietly by the front door for ten minutes decided to speak up and asked "Are we going to be sat, or not"? After getting their table, the waitresses would go back and forth talking about how "rude and nasty" the lady was, and who was going to deal with their table. In between this banter, the waitresses on duty were loudly arguing and shouting with the kitchen staff. The food took forever, and was not prepared correctly. After this terrible evening, we vowed to not come back. But one month later, we thought we'd try for breakfast and give them another shot. We were sat at a booth, my friend and I, where my seat was lighlty brushed by hand for me to slide in next to crumbs and trash. The table was dirty, with cholocate syrup still visibly moist on the table. After receiving our drinks, we waited nearly ten minutes to place our food order. The diner itself had only a few other tables sat, being shared with another waitress. What became increasingly bothersome was the General Manager was on site, and never came by our table to check on us, despite stopping at two other tables where she visited with 'regulars', and we never saw her leave the front counter for the rest of the meal. The meal itself arrived slowly, another 15 minutes had passed. Our eggs were not cooked to our order, and the biscuit in my 'scramble' was old and tasted terrible. The waitress finally returned, way after the SnS 'two-bite-rule' and we asked for boxes. We didn't appreciate that our check was printed out and placed on the table at the same time as our food, but in this case it was a blessing. We left our boxed food on the table and made a bee-line for the register, where the General Manager stood behind the register talking to another employee on the opposite side of the counter, next to me. The manager did not greet us, or even ask us how our food was. As she gave me my total, and handed her my card to pay, I stated 'You did not ask me how my meal was'. She laughed and said sorry, and asked me about the meal. In unison, my friend and I replied 'terrible'. After relaying the story of the experience we had just had, in addition to the story of the late-night waitresses, she offered to comp our meals. I told her despite the situation, I was still going to tip, and asked her to sell me a cookie so I could tip on it. The GM said I shouldn't tip, given the situation which actually bothered me more than anything else. Here she was telling me not to tip, and then preventing me from doing so at my request. We pressed forward paying for the meal, letting them know we weren't just arguing to try and get a free meal, and that this would be the last dollar we'd be spending. Through all of this, the waitress had come to the register, attempting to butt-in and argue with us. There's always a low-bar to meet at places like this, but as a full-service diner that touts friendliness and cleanliness matching your fast-casual atmosphere, you tend to hold them to higher standards. Apparently this place couldn't even hold up a wet mop.

Driving through so thought I would stop by a little after midnight for some breakfast. Their advert stated that breakfast started at midnight.I Pulled up to the drive thru around 12:25 and was told by who I assume was a manager that they didn't have breakfast because it was no where near being done. So I ordered chicken tenders and a sweet tea off the regular menu instead. I received my food but had not got my drink yet. After reviewing my receipt i noticed there wasn't a drink on it. I waited for well over 10 minutes at the window for the same "manager" to even notice I was still sitting there. When he finally noticed me I reminded him about my drink (sweet tea) in which he gave to me. Then as I was pulling away I drank it and noticed it was un sweet tea. I considered driving back but then thought to myself that they probably do not have the mental capacity to even remember that I was there 3 minutes prior. Mind you I was the only customer at the drive thru they also had only a few at inside seating.

Growing up in this area I've been to this Steak-n-Shake a lot and have watched it deteriorate pretty slowly. The floors are sticky with filth and look like they haven't been mopped in years, though they have, they're just permanently grimy. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good server, sometimes you never see one. The food is the same as it's ever been, but on this particular visit my husband noted that the ketchup tasted "off". He spent half the night offering up his meal to the porcelain god. Not cool, Steak-n-Shake. I haven't seen the poor guy sick like that in... well, ever. I won't come back to this location. I just can't. Not after that. Clean this place up!

Not being from the area, I was curious about Steak and Shake on name alone. To put it in terms a Southern Californian can understand, the interior is like a Bob's Big Boy, but the prices are cheaper than Jack in the Box. This place is a terrific value. In this economy, that cannot be stated enough. The quality of the food is pretty good, considering the price. They have a bunch of meals that cost $4, including a triple burger and fries. The shoestring fries are some of the best fries you'll get at a fast food restaurant. I also tried the hot dog, which was tasty, but seemed overpriced, since I had a double burger combo with fries for the same price as the dog. They even have a burger phone that you can buy for $10. How cool is that? It's archaic in that nobody uses a land line any more, but if you have one to ring people into your place, it can be a ringing hamburger! Love the Steak and Shake. I just wish we had one back home...

Yummmmm! Love the burgers and love that you can get a milk shake with side by side flavors. I got banana and chocolate. Sooooo goood! I am happy they opened a location in NYC.

I hate to admit it, but I really like this place. Double steakburger all the way and fries is my weakness. They make great milkshakes also, real ones, not that out of a machine stuff. I think it is better than most of the main burger chains.

One of the best places to go for burgers, fries, and shakes. If you are craving for greasy food, this is a must for a pit-stop especially after a long drive. On my final stop in Orlando on a road trip, we were weary, tired, and very hungry. My siblings want shakes. My husband and I couldn't make up our mind and settled for fast food. So we order for 5 people at a drive thru- $4 special incl. choice of single, double, or triple (yes three patties) with preference of toppings (too good to be true for cheap food) and fries. Shakes are $1-$2. Good food that won't hurt your wallet. I have no idea why it's called Steak when it's clearly burgers but the name is catchy! Wendy's, Burger King, McD, even Johnny Rockets is incomparable to Steak N Shake. They simply just have good burgers and fries complete with a delicious shake. One of my second must stop on a road trip!

As novices, my hubby and I took our time and the waitress happily guided us through the menu. It had been a meaty past few days, and while I knew I was probably dooming myself, I went for a salad. It was a new dish, with chicken, pecans, cranberries, and apples. Yes, of course it was iceberg lettuce. Yes, of course the dressing was like maraschino cherry liquid. Yes, of course, the chicken was frighteningly juicy and limpid, as if it were pickled rather than grilled. There were a lot of pecans and cranberries, which was nice. And I had a few bites of hubby's guacamole burger and fries, which were fine as far as fast food goes. So at least S&S knows what it is, and is priced accordingly: Burger King with table service.

I gracefully stumble in at 12:45 AM, rocking my favorite V neck top, tight jeans and glittered high heals. My pink boa and birthday crown completed the look. Half tranny hooker, half drunk! Okay, I lied. I was completely drunk. My tipsy girlfriends and I make our way to the register to and place our order. After several long stares, a picture and SNS chef hat, the police officer nicely asks us to leave. And I proceed to tell him, "not without my french fries". The night manger pries me up off the ground, hands me my bag of greasy food and asks for his hat back. He tells the police officer that it's OK that we stay and eat. I don't remember much after that. Thank you Steak N Shake, for you endure drunk people!

Good cheap place to eat. I have been here a couple of times before and enjoy it. The fresco melt is really good and their chili is amazing! My last waiter was so nice and had a good sense of humor. The price is really cheap so the quality of the burgers are obviously not the best but their ok. The butterfinger shake is not that good though. But again their chili is so good!!

The shoe string fries tick me off... they taunt me with hints of fried potato goodness and then dissolve almost immediately on contact. I've been known to shake my fist angrily at my plate and ramble on in a drunken tirade about the savage inequalities of french fry makers. About that time my good friends shove the shake at me and I go to my happy place. mmmmmchocolatemaltshake Usually I get the chili 3 ways, plus cheese and avoid the fries.

"Hello welcome to Steak N Shake how may I help you?" Those words were music to my stomach after a night of drinking. My friends were craving shakes. While I took the liberty of ordering something from their greasy menu! After a few minutes of looking at the drive-thru menu, I set my sights on a bacon cheeseburger. However I noticed that there were a few toppings that I could do with out. I told the speaker no onions or tomatoes. Because according to the lovely picture on the menu it came with those two toppings. I thought to myself I should make it easy and say I want it plain. Confused by this the voice asked me, "So you don't want onions, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, and relish?" Initially I was like that is correct. However I thought to myself and did one of those sitcom double takes. Excuse me did you say relish on a burger? Now in all my years of experience with fast food burger joints, I have never seen a burger that comes standard with relish. You laugh but I was legitimately perplexed by this. I pulled through to grab what I would hope to be a relish free burger, skinny fries, lemonade, and two shakes. When I arrived at my final destination, I was pleased to see a relish-less and spit-less burger! Another great experience at Steak N Shake! WeatherMan Predicts: 60-80% chance of regretting going to Steak N Shake in the morning. Also a high probability of having some fun stories to tell. Just out of curiosity, how many people go to Steak N Shake during the day dead sober? Make sure they don't put relish on your burger!

I've heard so much about this place. So I just had to try it after the club. HUGE mistake! Chili fries are just kidney beans and ground meat piled on top shoestring fries. No sauce, no nothing. I sent it back and re-ordered cheese fries to find myself wishing I had ordered more fries with that awful cheese sauce, which regretfully I've tasted better at ball parks. Great place if you are drunk and can't taste anything...ick!
