Meh. It's okay. We ordered a variety of meats to try out. The sliced beef was dry and so was the classic dry rub pork ribs. The chicken with the combo didn't look all that appealing, but in it's defense, I never tried it. Baby back ribs were fall off the bone delicious. I inhaled the baked beans and the sweet potato. The cornbread was just okay. I enjoyed their bbq sauces and made a point to try them all. Service was efficient and attentive. The place wasn't crowded when we arrived for dinner, so it was nice to be seated immediately. The only other thing to note about this place is that it had a drive-thru.

Sonny's raised their prices yet again. Now the big deal is $8 bucks, that is another 5% increase, and they seem to have more then one price increase per year. We have started cutting back our visits since the coupons have been becoming less and less frequent. With the new pricing we will now be open to find alternative places to spend out dinning dollar. The portion sizes have also been dropping, If you order a side they now put it in these shallow bowls. Barely enough anymore. They seem to try and compensate for their lack of food with large drink cups. I do not like those, they make you feel bloated and trick you into thinking you are full. Sonny's is still pretty good, but without a coupon of some kind to balance out the price we will be seeing less of them. A loss of a star is appropriate considering the constant price increases they have been having. I almost pushed them down to three stars, time will tell. On a side note we have been receiving a lot of BOGO offers from many restaurants lately. So the competion is gaining on Sonny's.

Service was good. Server waited to put in the order until I finished my salad. Very disappointed with the size of the 1/4 chicken. Must have come from a very very small chicken. To me it's not good when the whole portion fits into a side dish bowl with the bone. I expect the small portion at Boston Market but not here.

Good service, okay food. Our orders came out in about five minutes, which was a bit fast for a sit down establishment. The pulled pork was mushy and bland. The mac and cheese was delicious, but not very warm. Tasty coleslaw and garlic bread, but the bread wasn't warm either. Next time I'm craving BBQ I might just use their drive thru, and try something other than the pulled pork.

My wife and I visited this location and we were disappointed. For starters the salad bar was a mess. For only being 7pm and not crowded I would have thought it would have been in better shape. I ordered the chicken, that was a mistake. After eating one piece i felt like I was eating saw-dust. It was extremely dry. Only after 20 mins of pushing the plate aside did the waitress ask me if anything was wrong. When I told her the chicken was dry,, her response was "do you want a piece of chicken to take home?" She did not offered to have me speak to the manager; just I'm sorry and walked away. What ever happened to good customer service?

Wish this rating could be a 2.5 stars instead of 3. We were a party of 6. We were greeted by staff members as soon as we entered the restaurant which was very nice. When we realized 5 adults/teens plus one child couldn't fit in a smaller booth the hostess cheerfully switched us to a larger booth. Our server Caitlin was very good and attentive. The quality of the food was only fair. My daughter ordered a burger medium but it came out charred. To be fair, both the server and manager apologized and comped my daughter a free dessert. My ribs almost looked under cooked and the corn bread fell apart as I tried to peel away the paper. Ribs weren't very flavorful. My son said his garlic bread was "just plain" tasting. The $8.85 anniversary special really wasn't all that special but next time I visit my daughter at UCF I may be willing to give Sonny's another chance.

I grew up eating at Sonnys every week so my review might seem biased, however after not having it for almost 20 years and then moving back to Florida from Chicago I must say, I am very impressed. You get tremendous value for your money. They certainly know how to satisfy you. The all you can eat option is a new one on me but for only a few bucks more it's worth it. I love their ribs and their variety of sauces on the table is just incredible. I would recommend the fried okra as well as their redneck egg rolls. Their wait staff is friendly but sometimes I get the feeling they are checked out, they usually are on the younger side. Regardless they get it right in the kitchen and I'm glad they are still around after all these years.

When I feel like ribs, all you can eat sweet and spicy are the way I go. You can also switch up the sides when you recorder. The broccoli was cooked perfectly whereas other places tend to cook them to mush. Service varies but is rarely bad.

Just had lunch there, and not the first time. What can you say about Sonny's. The food is always good. I typically have the pulled pork, but decided to go for the turkey today. But overall the food is always consistent and tastes good. At this location the service is always very good. The hostesses that greet you are nice and cordial. Then waitress is always nice, informative and knowledgeable of the menu. And time between ordering, food arriving and requesting check is always good!! A good choice for lunch or dinner if you're in the mood for BBQ.

I've been here numerous of times and recently this place improved quite a bit. Service is a lot quicker, and waiters/waitresses are a lot nicer. My husband got the all you can eat and was more than happy with the quick service to refill his ribs and drinks. I love the Sweet Carolina sandwich. I didn't get an alcoholic drink but this place now has a bar.

Oh Sonny how I used to salivate over the mere thought of going to your eatery... "Not no more"... Went tonight as spouse was craving BBQ. Was seated instantly and greeted by our waitress. Ordered our usual- All you can eat chicken for me and all you can eat beef for him. Chicken & fries for the small one. We couldn't help but notice that there was a placard on the table stating how they were helping the consumer "consume" by lowering their prices on their most popular items. If they were that concerned the AYCE chicken should be priced at $4.99 as it used to be! The daily special price was $8.99, but normal is $10.99. OUCH! The chicken today was perfect... not dry and had a nice smokey flavor. I LOVE that I'm able to get steamed broccoli as a side and today's veg was perfectly steamed and as fresh as could be. Spouse's beef was tasty, but he was a bit peeved that they stopped serving baked potatoes, but still serve baked sweet potatoes. I don't get it either, why can't both be served... they're both just wrapped up in foil and baked to death! He complimented the mac & cheese as particularly tasty that night and inhaled both his corn bread & mine... Sonny's has gotten a bit pricey over the years, but it's a solid meal. Love the BBQ sauces... Can't say I love all the menu tweaks, but any restaurant that can dish up a tasty side of broccoli is a friend of mine!

Sit at the bar and get to know Shannon the bartender. She's really friendly and makes good drinks especially if you order them double. Order the double rack of ribs. Their cornbread is excellent and so are the baked beans.

Worst ever! Silverware was wrapped in a wet napkin, that was a red flag I should have left then. I ordered the shrimp and ribs. The ribs came in two halfs. One on top the other. I tried all of the first and it was hot and ok good. The second was ice cold! wTF? Cook tried to hide it? The shrimp was like a crab cake. One big fried lump all stuck together you know like bagged frozen shrimp from the store except it thawed out once then refrozen. I complained and it was like pulling teeth to get the un eaten meal taken of the bill. horrible !

When i am in Orlando area, this place was my favorite as a meat lover. I always dined in until couple days ago decided to use drive through. I ordered brisket dinners. While they were preparing my meal i watched the kitchen from my car. Health department must inspect this place immediately. First of all, the cook was mopping the floor, then took the garbage can, put all the dirt inside. I thought he was gonna change his plastic gloves. I was wrong. He opened the oven, took the meat out and sliced the meat with his dirty hands. Then i realized to look details inside that kitchen and it was a nightmare. Very dirty, not organized. I asked the lady to refund my money. She asked why and i explained why. She asked her manager and he refunded my money without apologizing or saying anything. All i want to explain is, there are so many bad things happening while you are waiting your meal on your table. I wish i never used that drive through and saw that kitchen.

This is fast food. It is to BBQ what McDonald's is to hamburgers. To be fair, I used to eat here from time to time, and I never hated it. It was cheap and the sauces were good, and it was filling. What else is there? That was a long time ago, and I've learned a lot about BBQ since then. I've found real BBQ places to eat at. I even bought a large smoker and learned to do it myself. I admit that I've always liked the Sonny's BBQ sauces when I've gone there, even this most recent time. Sure, you can make the meat taste 'okay' by dousing it with a ton of sauce, but that's not the point of BBQ. You're supposed to be enjoying the tender, moist, delicious meat using the sauce to enhance the flavor rather than drown it out. As a matter of fact, you should be able to eat the meat without any sauce whatsoever and still truly enjoy it because it should have a character all its own brought on by the careful smoking and slow cooking process. Unfortunately, you can't really do that at Sonny's because the sliced beef or pork (which respective parts, it's impossible to tell) is dried out and old-looking by the time it gets to your table. From the looks of it, I assume they slice a bunch of it every day and they set it under a heat lamp until an order comes in. That's why your meals come to the table 5 minutes after you put the order in. There's no juiciness whatsoever and the pre-sauce flavor is reminiscent of warmed cardboard, so in order to even remotely enjoy your meal, you have to cover it with sauce to make it edible. If that's not enough, the prices have gone up over the years to the point where you can get real BBQ elsewhere for about the same price. So it's not as cheap as fast food anymore, but still maintains the speed, convenience, and lack of attention to flavor that one can expect from fast food. You don't go to McDonald's for the amazing hamburgers. You don't go to Taco Bell for authentic Mexican food. Don't go to Sonny's for the BBQ.

We have been Sonny's customers since the '90s and enjoy most of their fare. However we are going to find another "regular" weekly stop. We often order the salad bar and one of the meats. Recently they have added a charge for slaw-- clearly a salad item that has been on the salad bar for years! This probably seems picky, but add that to my need to remind the server each time we order that sliced pork should be thinly sliced and not sent to the table in 1/4 inch slabs. The "new" Sonny's certainly isn't what the Tillmans brought to market.

Those of you that call Sonny's a "McDonald's of BBQ" are unfair and are just looking for Yelp attention. For those of us that have grown up in Florida, Sonny's has always been good and gone above and beyond; In a day and age where "BBQ" is trendy and everyone thinks they can do it. Solid BBQ and way better than a lot of "boutiques" that think they can do it better. Sure, I can go and fire up my smoker, marinade my ribs for a few hours by taking up the majority of the space in the refrigerator, use up massive amount of time and wood and get a product that I might argue is better...but why? I'm in the car, I'm hungry and the wife wants BBQ now. To claim that this is the "McDonalds" of BBQ is unfair. It's good, clean, consistent and tasty. And one of the best parts is they now have beer and you're not going to break your wallet in half attempting to eat there. Not all of us want to spend 60 bucks for a night out on BBQ with the wife. (Those of you that live in the Orlando area know what I'm talking about. There are "fashion BBQ" places in town that you can take out a loan on if you're not carful. I'm not looking for trendy folks, I'm just looking for decent BBQ!) I did just over hear an elderly couple that sent their fries back because they wanted them to be softer but I think that had everything to do with them wanting to preserve their lack of teeth. Made my night. Good stuff Sonny's...you are the king of consistent and affordable BBQ!

I felt like I was transported back to the South at this restaurant! Customers behind me had southern drawls and everyone was ordering sweet tea! Food was pretty good. Our family of 6 ate dinner tonight for $45. That price alone earned this place an extra star. Barbecue sauces were just ok....nothing amazing. This place isn't an awesome BBQ joint....but it does the job if you're really craving good southern food. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. My kids loved the half chicken and the cornbread was moist and tasty! We will definitely be back.

This is the second time I have used Sonny's to cater an event and they are always spot on. Prices are reasonable, portions are enough to satisfy and fill. Most of all the customer service is great. I dealt with Whitney and Manager John, they were very helpful, patient and accomodating. I will be using them again.

I only order the pull pork or salad bar here because I feel in love with both. Their salad is "all you can eat" and always fresh. There is a limited selection and most of everything is not labeled. However, everything I have tried off the bar is great. You need to try their wild rice soup! The pulled pork is always the star of the show in my book. They offer a big deal combo for 6.99. It includes a sandwich garlic bread, fries, and a drink! A nice filling lunch to have with friends. On a side note, the server at this sonny's bbq have always been very kind to me. I feel like a friend when I walk in here. They go out of their way to suggest items on the menu I may like. This is how I found out about their wild rice soup!

Yes, Sonny's is a chain but I think it is damn good BBQ. I love their pulled pork and brisket. Their baked beans are really good too. As for sauces, I am a big fan of the sweet and spicy blend they have. I also like how they have the napkins at the table and unlimited supply of handi-wipes as well. Staff is usually friendly. Salad Bar could use an upgrade if you ask me. They don't have many options and most times the bar itself is not kept in an orderly fashion. That would be my only complaint.

  • Sean H.

I like me some Sonny's. Best beans in the business and everything else is consistently consistent. I don't always do the salad bar but it's a nice option. The sauces are tasty. Kudos to them for just putting sweet/spicy in its own bottle - saves me a step in putting sweet and then spicy on my food. LOL It's not the best BBQ around but you always know what you're getting and it rarely disappoints.

Food is ok this restaurant is being rebuilt so restaurant did not have A/C R-30 insulation was pushed out of the way to allow the heat from attic to the dinning area and the place is full of fiberglass in the air. We had to leave 5 minutes after we sat down because of the heat and insulation in the air. Do not go here until the construction gets completed.

I know it's a chain and all...but it's good! The fries are delicious, the baked beans are incredible, the pork is divine, and they have a salad bar! I know this isn't the classiest of joints, but I have been to classy...sometimes you want something that isn't trying to be something it's not. That's Sonny's!
