Second time there, same opinion as last time, food is OK, service could be better. Bought a slice of Red Velvet cake, it was good but the slice was paper thin:-(

"The food was great and the portions very generous! Yolanda, the server, was extremely welcoming and attentive to our needs. I recommend this place to anyone interested on having an authentic Caribbean meal!"

I would give this place 5 stars for their service alone. The guy that took our order seems to know everything about the menu, he probably also helps with the cooking i assume. He was really friendly and answered all of our questions. He also suggested some food items he thought we would enjoy. What we ordered: -Jamaican Beef Patties (Need I say more? Totally worth it for $1.75 a pop) -Jerk Chicken (Large comes with 3 sides. It was really well seasoned and just enough spicy for a kick) -Fried Pork Chop (Large comes with 3 sides. I liked the flavor and how it was fried but it was a tad bit dry. Still pretty good though. I was craving pork chops) Sides: Mac and Cheese (baked style) Collard Greens Fried Okra French Fries Mashed Potatoes Black Eyed Peas Corn Bread All of the sides were pretty good. True to the "soul food' flavor. Corn Bread could be more buttery. Black Eyed Peas had a sourness to it, but It tasted like they added vinegar. Overall, great experience.

Only reason this place gets 3 stars is because the food is actually really good ...the dining area needs a major overhaul, however. The restroom, disgusting! Eateries should be decent and this place is not ...but I need to say, the food was good.

I discovered Oley's in Yelp and went there 2x in as many days. Gerald was the server and he was incredibly attentive and accommodating. The food was beyond good and my only disppointment (though not surprised) was when I returned for lunch and try had sold out of the ribs. It was late in the afternoon around 3pm so I had the ox-tail and was not disappointed. I don't need to tell the locals because insane then coming in and out but if you are visiting the Orlando area, Oley's is not to be missed.

Yolanda was awesome, took great care of our group, explained everything and answered questions in detail. And the food was off the chain, made me lean hard afterwards! Def come back next time I'm in Orlando!

I was taken there initially by a former University President. I knew it had to be good food becoz he took me and it obvious not for the ambiance. It is an old school aura, much like the grandmothers place one of the earlier reviewers said. It is off the beaten path for tourists but they are finding their way to oleys. It is one of the best "soul food" restaurants i have been to. I have enjoyed everything I have gotten there. The prices are low and the food quantity is high and the quality very good. How can you lose! They don't get a 5 becoz they do not come out to you quickly nor are they always disney customer service trained but they are still friendly once u talk to them. You seat yourself and they don't tell you that. The owner is in & out and is hands-on. He is a good guy! The greens are great, the green beans fresh, mac & cheese great. I love the mashed potatoes too. Corn bread just ok. Wow, the jerk chicken is very good. Fried chicken tender and seasoned well. You get a plate full of meat loaf and the gravy is good, too. The ribs are good and so is the fried fish. I have used them to cater events and I am not from the area and everyone was impressed. I aso have called ahead and had a party of 30 people go to eat. I advise you to call ahead for that becoz they usually have a small staff they are operating with but will gladly accomodate you if you call ahead of time. You will enjoy it - go!!!

Oley's is probably my favorite soul food restaurant in town, at least based on my first visit. They are located on S. Rio Grande near W. Michigan Street. The place is hard to miss, with its building painted in a striking cranberry color. Immaculate with bright yellow walls on the interior, homey and airy curtains, and yellow silk flowers at each table, Oley's features Southern and Caribbean cuisine. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I ordered fried catfish. Fried is the only way to eat catfish in this Southern boy's opinion. My sides were collard greens, cooked just right, and a steaming bowl of okra and tomatoes. The plate was accompanied by a generous slice of cornbread. The Southern menu has probably everything you'd expect for a good soul food place: fried or smothered chicken and pork, chitterlings, liver and onions, turkey wings, barbecued chicken and ribs, and more. If you are a strict non-fish eating vegetarian, there's also a vegetable platter. The list of sides is enormous (check out their Internet site oleyskitchen.com ). The Caribbean entrees looked enticing, including oxtails, curried goat or chicken, escoveitch snapper, and a staple of Jamaican cooking, ackee (a fruit) and salted codfish, or simply saltfish. Next time I'm giving the ackee and saltfish a try. I like this place.

Best place for Soul Food in Orlando. Been eating there for at least 15 yrs. Fav. Meal: Jerk Chicken with rice, macnchz, greens and corn bread. Chicken is always falling off the bone, rice soft, macnchz baked and greens (collard) cooked to perfectiong (never slimy and over cooked) Their grits for breakfast are outstanding! Great service, you feel at home and the food is made with Love!

jerk chicken is not actually jerk chicken, it's BBQ chicken (review from Gregg F is correct about this), so that was disappointing but it tasted fine for being BBQ chicken, but I was hungry that day. A friend of mines had the ribs and it was decent. They do honor the yelp $10 for $20 deal, so that we nice to have. Overall the food is ok. Service was ok.

"This is a really good place for some home cooked soul food. Very nice people, good service, fair prices and generous portions. Loved the collard greens, black eyed peas and jerk chicken. I will be back."

Went to Oley's after a HOT Sunday afternoon football game at the nearby stadium. I smiled when I walked into this place. It seemed like a re-creation of one of my favorite scenes in the movie, "Jason's Lyric". The decor is old school - ceiling fans, wood paneling, very homey. You'll feel like you're walking into your grandmother's house. Service was attentive, friendly and accommodating. Prices are fantastic! Entrees come with a choice of 3 sides and cornbread. I couldn't decide between the smothered pork chops and the meatloaf so the waitress let me do a combo plate for only $10! The meats were scrumptious. The sides? Even better!!! Standouts were the homemade dressing and yams. Just...sooo good! I also ordered the fresh lemonade which was gone before I knew it because it was so refreshing after being out in the sun. We paid less than $30 for our drinks, meals and dessert. You can't beat that. I would definitely recommend Oley's for a visit if you're in that area.

Don't let the location scare you. The place is very clean and the food is extremely good. I tried the pick 4 veggie plate and the jerk wings. Collards, cabbage, black eyed peas and mac and cheese. Yummy!

Walt disney visitors! Please make the trip to eat here! The food is flavored and cooked to perfection. My husband had the ribs and I tried Caribbean for the first time. The jerk chicken is great if you like spicy foods like I do. Large portions priced reasonably. Do not be fooled by the location and outside appearance. This restaurant is truly a gem. You must try the Mac and cheese! Thanks Yolanda!

  • Jenil S.

The jerk chicken was good and also spicey. They were nice enough to let me have a sample so I knew it was too spicy for me. My friend had the ribs which were very good and I had the smothered pork chops. A bit too much fat on the pork chops and when they said smothered, they meant smothered. I could barely find the pork chops. They were flavorful. Mac and cheese was good, greens were good, corn bread was ok. I read about the customer service and I have to say that the guy who took our order was very patient and kind. His personality was a bit different, but he was friendly in his own way. Sweet potato pie was too sweet and the yams were cooked well, but no cinnamon or nutmeg flavor.

Being pregnant i was seriously craving a jamaican beef patty so i decided to stop at oleys. Unfortunately they were all out, but i surely did not leave oleys dissapointed. I ordered the fried chicken with candied yams and mac&cheese. The chicken was well seasoned and crispy. Yams were amzing as well as the mac. My boyfriend got bbq chicken with collard greens and yellow rice. Although i didnt care for the bbq chicken the greens were sooo good and the rice was okay. Both meals came with cornbread which was okay, not the best though. Definately will be going back soon. Hopefully next time they have my beef patties

I don't think people understand what sort of restaurant this is, and are critiquing it with the wrong mindset. This is a southern, never-even-installed-an-A/C, the-paint-probably-still-has-lead-in-it, home-grown food place where everything is made with love and sweat. The jerk is hotter than Hades with a unique and delicious flavor. The meals are served with 3 sides, gallons of beverages, and a generous portion of the main meal. It's 15 mins from attractions and I-drive, of course you can drive a few miles and get 'better' food from 5* restaurants, so that's a pretty silly thing to take stars for. I wonder if they forgot to open their eyes driving into the neighborhood, or missed the bars on the windows. Anyway, if you want REAL food, which is what the few privately owned restaurants in this area are known for, eat here. Just hope you have an iron stomach if you get the jerk!

This place is a hole in the wall, everything was fast and friendly too. The food was really good and BBQie.the only word of advice, avoid the Mac n cheese.

  • Chip G.

Oh my gosh talk about great ribs and a good atmosphere this place is a little bit off the beaten path but well worth finding our waiter was really nice had some great suggestions and when they were out of something give us extra of whatever else they had to make up for it meals are served very promptly and where soon devoured as everything was delicious even the okra with an only going to care for was good the lima beans out of this world

  • Raul P.

Went here for lunch and all I can say is: AWESOME! I had the jerk chicken and ox tail combo plate. The food was delish and the service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back!

Thanks yelp. I was visiting Orlando for a conference and wanted some good food - not hotel food, or chain food...real good food. I got the large dark meat smoked chicken with greens, lima beans, mac and cheese. The chicken was amazing. So good. The collard greens are amazing - a nice kick of heat at the end. The lima beans - so yum. The mac and cheese was OK, I didn't finish it spent my time with the beans and greens instead. The red velvet cake is pretty good. Oley's was just what I needed - good food - off the tourist-trap beaten path and just great food.

Pros: -Jerk chicken was super tasty. -Cornbread was good. -Good deal using gift card from restaurant.com Cons: -Service was slow. -Curry & cabbage were salty. -Rice was burnt. I will never dine here again.

My boyfriend & I went there today. We called our order in, they said it'd be ready in 5mins. Well, it literally tasted like they made it in that amount of time. This was my first time & his second. We ordered salmon croquettes, the combo platter & an large oxtail meal. Our salmon croquettes was burned, the rice in both meal tasted burnt but was under cook, in my combo platter the goat was hard & burnt. The only part of our meal we enjoyed was the oxtail, he enjoyed the Mac & cheese I didn't. We paid almost $40.00 for our meal. Bad experience.

Well, in a word....AWESOME!! Place is a little run down but that's no reflection on the food. I had the jerk chicken, rice and peas and collards. I assume they use the chicken that they smoke in house for the jerk because the smoke was in there. Good level heat and great flavor. On to the rice and peas. Nice and spicy, well seasoned and pretty spicy. Greens were good as well but could have used some vinegar and salt. Next time I go I hope to have the curry goat. Keep it up guys (and ladies), I'll be back for more.

All of the rave reviews about this place I expected way more!! The food was ok. I've had much better Jamaican not even 5 miles from this place. I called my order in ahead of time and it was ready when I came to pick it up. They didn't want to warrant my discount for checking in which kind of rubbed me the wrong way. But they ended up giving me the 20% off and I'm glad they did bc for the amount of food given it really isn't worth much more than that. I had the curry chicken, greens, and cabbage. The curry was good, the greens (I'm a collard green fanatic and critic) were okay and the cabbage was right there with the greens. Will I be back?? Probably not, there are better Jamaican spots that give more food and have much better service. Taste of Jamaican kills this spot.

  • Justin N.

Soul in the spirit of Oley's and a little to much salt in the jerk chicken that I had which wasn't really jerk. I also ordered Mac and chz (ok), green beans (bland) , yellow rice (dry) and cornbread (delicous). Yolanda,my server was as sweet as could be.

Stopped in on my way to the airport. Wednesday afternoon, prime time for lunch. I chose this place based on the reviews, I haven'd had good Jamaican for about 7 years, and unfortunately the clock keeps ticking. 1) No jerk pork - ordered jerk chicken instead. The "chef" actually took BBQ chicken and tossed it in jerk sauce! The restaurant didn't even have real hot sauce. The jerk seasoning was bland, the chicken was overcooked and clearly re-heated in a microwave. I was REALLY excited about coming here as Milwaukee has no Caribbean restaurants to speak of. Not sure what happened here based on other reviews, but this was absolutely horrible.

Went in after buying a deal on yelp. My son and I both had the curry chicken dinners. I had the large which came with 3 sides, I chose Mac and cheese, cabbage and potato salad, all great but the Mac and cheese was awesome!!! Will definitely be back.

I was in a strange part of Orlando to visit a client and I was staying @ the Days Inn on 33rd street. Nothing really nearby to eat except IHOP and there was no way in hell IHOP could satisfy my hunger. The woman at the front desk mentioned Oley's and that it was jamaican inspired. Im always up for some Jamaican eats so I was like hell yeah! I pulled up around 6:50, but the sign said they close @ 7PM so I was a little disappointed. There was a guy in the car next to me and I decided to ask were they open and he said "get yo ass in there". Went inside and there were a nice amount of people inside dining. The interior is very diner like and the exterior is smokehouse/shack. The woman behind the counter was yelling into the phone at a potential customer as they seemed like they didn't know if they had enough time to come in and pick up the food. She told them they needed to get their butts on over if they want to eat. I looked over the menu and the jerk chicken looked good. I got a large which allowed me to choose 3 sides which were greens, cabbage and peas & rice...cornbread came along with the dish as well. I told them I would eat inside because my hotel was a fucking dump and I did not want to eat there. They make their own fruit punch which is pretty sweet and good. I started to hear a buzzing noise and I looked up and flies were floating all around the ceiling as if they were waiting for me to get some food to pounce on. Im not a fan of flies because they like to land on things called shit along with other things I'm not crazy about like dead animals. I told the waitress I decided to take it to go and she seemed quite upset and walked into the kitchen. The cook came out and looked at me in astonishment basically asking if I was taking it to go and I said yes due to the flies circling above me. He seemed upset and stormed into the kitchen. I guess my food had landed on a plate at that point and they were going to have to wash an extra dish or something. The food itself was good, but that portion was huge so I could not eat all of it. Food here is great, but the peeps need an attitude adjustment and insect repellent.

IF you have the time, this is an excellent choice for lunch! Fresh cooking takes time and the lone server was running ragged. When lunch arrived, it was delicious. I had the curried chicken with a side of yellow rice (they were out of cabbage) and plantains. Yummy! My husband had the jerk chicken (best he's had) with lima beans (also a winner) and black-eyed peas.

Good soul food. Nice china for a dump. Friendly ppl. The okra is soft and crispy a little weird but delicious! I had the jerk chicken. It was hot but good!!

I got to get a bite of 6 difference entrees because we had 7 people getting different entrees. Every one of them was full of flavor! The best was the Ox Tail with the yellow rice. The owner was really nice too. They made sure we enjoyed the food and they seemed passionate about their recipes. We came here at 9:30pm so the outside seemed a little shady, but the owners were really friendly so that made things a lot more comfortable.

For the first time since I have been on Yelp, I experienced service so bad that I just ended up leaving without getting food. Yeah, it was that bad. I always hate giving low reviews to small businesses, but this one hit on pretty much all of my restaurant pet peeves. There was no one at the front, so after standing there for a couple of minutes I just walked up to the bar and had a seat. One of the servers said hello and went on about her way. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. Roughly 15 to 20 minutes went by without anyone taking my order. I could have looked over this, but there were literally 6 people total in the place. 4 people already had there food and I was the only one who hadn't ordered. Finally, I was able to get one of the servers attention. It appeared that there was some confusion about who was working and who was on break. OK fine. These things happen. I will let it go. A few more minutes go by and I finally get to place my order. I ask for the ribs. The server tells me there are no ribs. I look at my watch. It is 3:37 in the afternoon and the place closes at either 9 or 10. How are there no ribs? The server says it will take a long time to prepare them. So it sounds like there were ribs, but they weren't ready or something? I asked if they could just...you know... cook some. It is a restaurant after all. Again, I was told that it would take a long time. OOOOKKKKKKKK. There is little I can stand worse than a restaurant that runs out of food especially if isn't anywhere near closing time. But, I must admit that this explanation was a first for me. So, I look down at the menu to order the catfish instead and the server had just walked off. I literally couldn't believe it. To make matters worse, other people came into the restaurant and she immediately walked up to the counter and started helping them. Well, that was about all the disrespect and frustration I could take for a restaurant in a day. We were at around 40 minutes at this point and I hadn't even ordered. Lord knows how long it would have actually taken me to get some food as I overheard them telling another group that actually was getting service that there order was going to take around 20 minutes. From the other reviews it sounds like this place has some good food. Maybe one day I will give them another shot, but the service I received was just unacceptable. especially since the place was pretty empty. I hope this was just an off day for them, otherwise I think Oley's needs a serious intervention by either Chef Robert Irvine or Chef Gordon Ramsey.

This Review is being written by a Northern Soul Food Cook and Connoisseur. I give this restaurant 5 stars for the service alone and 4-1/2 stars for the food. Don't get me wrong the food was good, but I loved my server, huge personality and great service. Waiter took his time to explain the menu and make sure that everything was exactly as we ordered, he appeared to know the menu throughout. He was really friendly and answered all of our questions. He also suggested some food items that he thought we would enjoy and made accommodations for special requests . There were four of us dining. Our meals were served in a timely manner. We ordered Jerk Chicken, Jerk shrimp, Goat, Chitterlings, Greens, Sweet Potatoes, Black Eye Peas, Macaroni & Cheese, and Corn Bread. My fiancee LOVED the Jerk Chicken and Shrimp, but he later complained to me that he only received 4 shrimp in his combo. I told him to shut up because the restaurant accommodated his special request and made that a combo and they didn't even have a Jerk Chicken and Shrimp Combo on the menu. My son loved the Chitterlings they were good & I liked them as well but I'm not a big fan of Hog Maws. Normally, I hate Black Eye Peas but I LOVED Oley's Black Eye Peas and Corn Bread they were a meal all by themselves. The Goat, Yams and Greens were also good. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND OLEY'S they blow places like Sylvia's Soul Food Restaurant out of the water. Great Place give it a try.

If you love authentic home cooked SOUL FOOD and Jamaican food w/a soul food twist, Oley's is the place to eat in Orlando!! The food is delicious...not greasy, very flavorful, really good"-) I love the "veggie" plate....basically consists of 4 sides of your choice. I always do the same thing....collards, candied yams, BAKED MAC AND CHEESE and green beans. The corn bread that comes with it is awesome too! Top it off with the lemon pound cake...done! WARNING: The place is a classic, "joint"..so don't look for ambiance. I'm from Chicago and we call places like this a "hole in the wall", but these are usually the BEST soul food restaurants....so get pass the look and head over for the FOOD!

Fried pork chops, chicken wings with jerk sauce. So good. Decent decor. Good service Oley's doesn't look like much from the outside. Bright pink/cranberry paint and bars on the windows. In my heard, I was going "Man, these yelpers are crazy and the food better be amazing." Needless to say, the yelpers aren't crazy and the food was amazing. Yelp had a $10 for $20 deal and decided to use it. Showed up with a friend and ordered two fried pork chops, 10 wings with jerk sweet chili sauce, and the sides were green beans, collard greens, and mashed potatoes. The price was very reasonable, not quite on the cheap side, but it was pretty much spot on. The decor of the restaurant was ok, very basic. Some booths, some tables, picnic esque table clothes, and chairs. I have learned to never judge a restaurant by the decor or you will miss out on some amazing food. So, we placed the food and about 15 mins we got it. The fried chicken wings were crispy and hot. I burned my mouth a bit, but that was user error. The fried pork chop was flavorful and delicious. The sides were AMAZING!!!! I almost never eat greens because of places that serve them slimy or cooked beyond eternity. Not here, just perfectly seasoned and a smidge of hot sauce made it. I cleaned my plate. The Green beans were very good. The mashed potato had gravy on top and the mashed potato was that, mashed, not the whipped style. Overall, it was a fabulous experience. Another great place for food thanks to Yelp and the manager/owner man was very courteous. Thanks!!!

Fell into this place purely on a Yelp recommendation and a $20 for $10 coupon offer. The reviews were spotty but I read between the lines and some of them seemed genuine, and I am a notorious cheap bastard, so here we are. And my beautiful wife wanted ribs, so ribs she gets. The place was nice, simple, one sweet waitress named Millicent. Dining room slightly in disrepair, worn down, but clean. Who cares, the food was great! Be warned, the place is in a shady neighborhood, I saw a waaay overweight hooker in a thong and a see through nightie on the next street over, at one in the afternoon! Awesome! That shit don't scare me none so let's get to the food. Classic Southern Soul. The ribs were not what I expected. Slightly sweet, but not as sweet as most places, and just a little bit of cayenne or some other chili powder, and oh so juicy. At first I was disappointed but I was a fool. I just had to get used to them. And even though I live over an hour away I will always try to go back. The sides were phenomenal. Fried okra, perfect. Candied Yams, as good as My Sainted Grandma's, maybe better. And easily the best mac and cheese I have ever had, and I have had that pretentious duck fat and bacon infused shit for way too much money in fancy gastropubs. I love mac and cheese. I need that recipe! The yellow rice was a huge disappointment though, parboiled, blah. Also the cornbread was dry and not so great but the other stuff was so over the top great that it didn't matter. Even the pink lemonade was really unexpectedly awesome. I'm still full 8 hours later. Maybe next time I try the Jamaican fare, curried goat or oxtail! Mmmm. In summation, people, take chances! They can pay off quite nicely sometimes.

I was in Orlando for a conference and found Oley's under a "best soul food" search on Yelp - so glad I did! It's a medium-sized, homey place that would probably seat 50 or so. There was a group of ladies there who had come to the restaurant twice in two days, and there were also a few "regulars" so that sealed it for us that we were in the right place. There were two of us and we tried: fried chicken, turkey wings, collard greens, lima beans and mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. The portions were a good size - meat and 2 sides (small?) was very filling; 2 meats and 3 sides (large?) was a lot. There was so much to choose from though, and we didn't get to sample anything from the Caribbean side. Will make sure to try it again when in Orlando.

Food was good.. Even though I had to wait to get my food... My potatoe salad would taste good but its was missing potatoes.. Bake Mac and Cheese Yummy!!! Check in got my 20% off.. Use the bathroom its very small... Also it had old mop water smell which I was not to please with.. When you standing by the counter to order you can see the manager office on the left... Which its a weird place to have a office..

Pretty good BBQ. The chicken was moist and the black eyes were great. My husband ordered the ribs, they were decent but we aren't a fan of ribs covered in BBQ sauce. The neighborhood could be a little concerning but don't let that stop you from a grata lunch.

I was looking for a soul food restaurant while on vacation in Orlando. To my delight I found this restaurant on Yelp with good reviews. I ordered the small ox tails, rice, and cabbage. Wow! It definitely didn't seem like s small, because the portions were huge! Yes, everything was delicious! The service was great too. Rose kept checking to make sure everything was fine. The next time I'm in Orlando I will definitely return. Oh, I took advantage of the 20% discount offered on Yelp!

The food was excellently prepared. The restaurant is well maintained and the customer service is amazing! I loved everything so much that I went the next day to eat there again. The second day was fantastic as well. I ordered the ox tails, rice and peas, cabbage, green beans, collard greens, ribs, and macaroni cheese for me and my nephew and we left happy.

  • Jamarco T.

The food was delicious. Highly recommend their jerk chicken. It has just enough kick to it unlike some places that will have you drinking water by the gallon. However, there's no type of air circulation in there. If I get a chance to return, definitely doing carry out.

Food was very favor full, portion size was pretty for price. Mac a roni cheese was really good but could use a little more salt. Jerk Chicken is awesome, and Yams are excellent not too sweet or bland.

We had the ribs and jerk chicken. I was not disappointed!!! Best soul food ever. The collards were seasoned to perfection, the okra and tomatoes were wonderful. I tried my husband's mashed potatoes and they were really good too! This is a mom and pop operation with true southern cooking. Take the time to eat here...you will love it!

Not my cup of tea... Rice and peas were bland, veggies and Mac and cheese were too salty. But my bf enjoyed his meal of ribs and fish...

The reviews I read online were dead on. Very friendly staff and the food was great. Very large portions of out of this world tasty food. Food was filled with flavor. Mac n cheese was just that, homemade and cheeeezy. Mash potatoes smothered in a light gravy was amazing. You can really taste the southern carribean zest. Meatloaf was out of this world, pure juicy meat. Everything comes with cornbread which is very moist and good. We also had the family rib dinner, which is enough for two hungry men or two adults, two children. Either way go hungry!!!! Located close to Hwy 4 exit. To go or dine inn. We dined in. They are on restaurant.com . Enjoy!
