So far the best soul food I've found in Orlando. That's to say, so far I've been disappointed with Orlando soul food thus far, but this place is worth a return visit. Service - really friendly. Refilled our drinks frequently, food came in a reasonable amount of time. Decor - clean hole in the wall type of place. It looks like an addition to the adjacent building, but it is clean and comfortable. Food - GREAT! The arnie Palmer was great, but my wife's iced tea was too sweet. The waitress added some lemonade and water to her tea and made it taste perfect. They serve breakfast till 1, but start serving lunch and dinner at 11. They have lunch and dinner sized orders of most selections. The lunch portion had one pork chop and two sides ($9); dinner was two chops two sides and a choice of rice or mashed potatoes ($11.50). The pork chops were thin, but were very tender and covered in a well-seasoned batter. My wife had them smothered. Both were excellent, as was the yellow rice, rutabaga, Mac n cheese, Black eyed peas, okra, and cornbread. The cornbread was crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The lemon pound cake was big and moist. The chicken wings were not as good as the rest of the food. Although we were eating after 12 on a Friday, several people around us were ordering breakfast, so it must be really good. They had several choices such as shrimp and grits, crabcakes and salmon cakes as well as eggs, chicken and waffles, etc. The lunches were mostly under $10, and the dinners were under $8-15. They take cash and credit cards. For Orlando, this is a great place for comfort food! I'll be back.

After a overnight & early morning flight my colleague and I were craving orlando magic, we found it at Nikki's. The food was tasty, tender and delicious. I had a fried pork chop, he had the smothered rib tip. Perfection. Pork Chop meat with a perfect crust and seasoning, i cut the meat with a butter knife. I have been raving all day about it. My sister wanted to know how come she did not know about this hidden gem. She and her husband travel here 6 times a month. She knows now.

So we are new to the Orlando area.... and we were in the mood for some soul food, so I took to Yelp to find one within the area. I came across this restaurant so my family and I decided to take a 30 min drive. The place is a bit small and they parking is on the street. It was hard for us to find parking but we were able to find parking next to a church which is right next door. The lady at the counter was very nice. She was very bubbly while she took our order. So our order consisted of: -Ribs Tips w/ Mac n Cheese & Collar greens....- Fried Tilipa w/ Mac/Green..... -2 Fried Chicken Wings w/Mac n Yams & Banana Pudding So here is my run down of the food.... The food was Ok. The good: Yam & Collar Green & Fried Tilpa. The Bad: The mac and cheese was a bit different that what I'm used to. It was a bit soggy. The Rib tips were more like uncooked smothered ham hocks. The fried chicken was blah.. it had no seasonings, needed some salt & pepper. Banana Pudding was like diabetes in a cup...OMG!!! The Really Bad: After our meal, Yo, we had the runs like CRAZY!!! Its started with my hubby... he was on the throne for an hours.. I was like WTH Yo. I thought it was just him.. I had the same thing 2 hours later.. BOYYYYYY was I in pain... my stomach was on FIREEEEEE!!! It was not a good feeling. Im not sure if the food was good since we got there about 30 mins to them closing. This just makes me scared toeat out...smh We won't be going back.

Don't view my rating as saying the food is bad; it's just not my preference. My wife's tilapia was fabulous, and the rutabaga was really good. The peach cobbler was decent too. But my fried chicken lacked seasoning (maybe not enough salt in the batter), and the other sides were just okay. If I'm in the area and craving fried tilapia, I may stop through.

Located on Carter Street just west of downtown Orlando and east of Orange Blossom Trail, Nikki's Place is one of the last few places specializing in soul food in Orlando. The place itself is small and humble, with only a few dining tables and a minimally decorated space. The walls are adorned with various newspaper clippings and photos with community leaders and celebrities who have visited over time. Despite its humble setting, quite a few Mercedes and Lexus cars were parked out front, and a few folks from the city could be identified eating inside. I wondered to my dining companion that afternoon if this was like Orlando's own version of Freddy's BBQ joint from the House of Cards, where Mr. Frank Underwood would go to scheme his political ascent over a plate of ribs. The restaurant actually has quite the history as outlined in the Nikki's Place article by Orlando Sentinel's Heather Mcpherson. Although known as Nikki's Place since 1999, the restaurant was originally opened in 1949 and was known as Roser's Restaurant. The restaurant continues in the tradition of serving good Southern comfort food, simple and straightforward. Courses here for lunch come with two sides as well as a freshly baked cornbread muffin. Diners can choose from a list ranging from chitterlings to ox tails, fried chicken, smothered rib tips, pork neck bones, pig tails and pig ears, all the wonderful bits and pieces that make traditional Southern cuisine so delicious. My dining companion ordered the Fried Tilapia with sweet rutabagas and collard greens ($8.25) while I ordered the Fried Pork Chop with mac and cheese and collard greens ($9.00). Portions are not outrageous as some other soul food places have known to be, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It was just the right amount to be full but not overstuffed, particularly the side portions. My collard greens and mac and cheese were both very good while my pork chop was fried to a nice juicy crisp. I had actually wanted the smothered pork chop, and the staff were kind enough to bring a small cup of the gravy and onions to smother my pork chop in after inquiring. Overall, a very enjoyable lunch and will likely return to this neighborhood spot to try some of their sweet potato pie. On Wednesdays, they have a $5.00 Wednesday plate special including Smothered Steak, Rib Tips, BBQ Riblets, Fried Wings, Turkey Necks, Beef Stew, And Meat Loaf. Closed Tuesdays.

Wow the food was wonderful. I was visiting from Philadelphia. They have a special where you get 2 sides and a protein and corn bread for $5. The portions are perfect. The customer service was on point. Niki the owner I believe wait tables and is very pleasant. I really enjoyed my food. I wish I can move this business up to philly.

The food here excellent! The customer service is superb! If you are in Orlando and want soulfood, then this is the place to go. This place is not commercial like many others. Prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are great too.

Bottom Line, put this on your "Things to do in Orlando List!" In the neighborhood, where you can probably not only eat well and heartily, but hear " what thus saith the community" as well!!! No, do not expect white tablecloths or fine china. Do expect to eat well and feel as though you made a stop by Big Mama's house for soul food. I had shrimp and grits , scrambled eggs w/ cheese and the lightest most delicious buttermilk biscuits!!! My husband had sausage, eggs over easy and grits! DELICIOUS ! We had the nerve to also get take outs! Our waitress was very personable and made us feel at home!!!! A CLASSIC location during the CLASSIC weekend! BTW, takeouts were delicious!

First time at a place is always interesting, what to ordered and were to sit. Nikki's place is small but yet services some really good southern cusiines and some of the best sweet potato pie I have ever had (home made) The daughter of the owner served us and she was so nice and polite and told us what was good in the menu. I shared the some soft tenderloins of beef (beef tips) with someone else and some collard greens and macaroni and cheese, the food was good and not expensive at all because once again hole in the wall places are the ones to go. The service was good even though the place had a lot of people and everything was good and made fresh. I can not wait to come back again, the macaroni and cheese was so good but I think the portion on it was small and also the corn bread was good heck even the Pepsi in the can was good. What is the bad things about this place? It is located in the Paramore area of Orlando a very bad area so if you are not from around here you might get weird looks but when we walked in to the place we were treated just like everyone else and no weird faces. Three people can eat here for less then $30 bucks and leave happy and full. I will come back again soon to try other dishes and maybe even there breakfast that someone posted on there review they have.

This is the best soul food place I've found in Orlando. The smothered pork chops were good - a little thin, but very tasty. The menu has a great selection of southern favorites.

The only reason I'm giving this review a 4 and not a 5 is because of the sweet potato pie. It wasn't sweet enough lol. Otherwise this place is great. Very down home and local and I mean that as a supreme compliment. Very rare in Orlando to find a local place. The fried tilapia was hot and flavorful. Mac and cheese was very good. Greens weren't too salty and just right. Good service and quick food. Everything is made on sight. Great diamond in the rough in a touristy place. My wife and I went here on our honeymoon. Great soul food spot.

I enjoyed my dinner here a lot. they have a pretty standard fare for soul food restaurants. the atmosphere was a bit like eating in my Aunt Margaret's kitchen (not a bad thing). the food was well seasoned and "clean".not greasy. the service was cheerful and fast. The location was a bit hard to get to if you are not familiar with the area but well worth it. This was a good dinner. I had the fried wings with collard greens and sweet potatoes. Hubs had the smothered pork chop with Mac and cheese and collards. Yum!

For the first time eating soul food, the experience at Nikki's was excellent! The restaurant is small but cozy, our server Nicky was very sweet and friendly. Nicky recommended the combo for our drinks, it was a perfect blend of sweet ice tea and lemonade, I've never tasted anything so good! We ordered the fried tilapia and the rib tips with mac & cheese, okra in tomato sauce, collards greens & candied yams for sides and the peach cobbler for dessert. The food was delicious! We were so hungry and dug right in that I forgot to take a pic of food. Whether you're a local or tourist and you want to eat amazing soul food, Nikki's is the place to go. We will definitely be back again.

NO MA'AM !!! No Ma'am!!!! Nikki is so so very rude. She yelled at me and my party in front of the entire restaurant. We had just left church and were feeling so blessed till we were embarrassed. That is no way to run a business. Very small had to squeeze a party of 6 around a tiny table. The chefs and waiters also look very shady. MMMMmmmm you can keep that mess! I will never spend another penny at this place.

Okay, don't be put off by the neighborhood because this is seriously good soul food . Parking is in the grass across the street, which adds to the charm. Puh-lease, did you expect valet service at a soul food kitchen? Upon entering, I was confused to whether I should sit down or wait to be seated, but a waitress quickly came over and got me seated and took my drink order. I got some great food tips from the waitress as well as Mr. Pitts (another diner), who wanted to be sure I got the full Nikki's experience! I quickly settled on Rib Tips in gravy, with Lima Beans and Yams which is just about what I order at the Soul Food Bistro in Jacksonville. And in between got a refill on my perfectly sweetened tea. Service was outstanding - pleasant, efficient and funny. When the food arrived it was as advertised, delicious. I had trouble finding a dignified way to eat the rib tips, but I had fun trying. Everything else was really really good. If your in the area for lunch, you should give Nikki's a try. And if you see Mr. Pitts, please give him a "hello" from me

Thanks for mentioning this place on your blog, Tasty Chomps! Great 1/4 baked chicken to anchor the meal, plus creamy lima beans and insane(!) mac & cheese, plus giant peach cobbler just begging for a scoop of vanilla ice cream (more than enough to split for two, or three). Really friendly and welcoming staff; perfect option for hopping off I4 and picking up dinner on the way home- easy off and on.

Ah, yes, Nikki's Place. The last time I was here was with friends. One of the friends, who's particular about her soul food, demanded to speak to the chef because she was so impressed with his cooking. I was in Orlando last week, and felt the need to revisit my place of soul food nirvana. What distinguishes this family-run restaurant from others is the customer service and food variety. I felt like I was at home with the warmth of my server. We had a good old conversation about stuff before I even ordered. It was Sunday, and I was in the mood for Sunday fried chicken, lima beans, and rutabagas and cornbread. And they did a bangin' job! There was very little conversation at my table because we were so busy eating. All this for under $10 a person. You just can't be this place for the value and the quality.

Pretty good experience! Excellent food! I had the smothered rib tips with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, yellow rice, and cornbread. Everything was great, especially the cornbread, but I'm a sucker for cornbread. Our server was a sweetheart and very helpful. My only complaint is that it's in Parramore, but whatever. I'll make the drive out for this. I'll definitely be back.

We were in town for our conventions board meeting. After 3 solid days of "hotel"area food, we all were looking for a good Soul Food restaurant. It was announced that there was this restaurant about 15 mins. Up the road that served lunch for $5.00. After getting there I saw this little place that looked like it couldn't hold anymore that 25-30 people. Well that was right! Got there and about 40 others had thought like me. Then to my disdain found out that the lunch special was only on Wednesday. Oh well we had drove there many of those already there were from our convention so I stayed. And boy am I glad I stayed! This family (father, mother and daughter) joint was run just like Grandmother's dining room. Momma giving orders, daddy serving up the meals and daughter running around playing host. Shoot Daughter Nicki (named after her) even got playfully mad because we didn't call home (her) and tell he we were coming so she fix up the place. Over all this place was great! Ambience: Great, Food: Greater, meeting Nicki, her father Nick and mother Priscilla (Madear) was the greatest! Oh I had Liver and Onions (smothered in Brown gravy), rutabaga Collard greens and corn bread!

After a few visits Nikki's Place has become a favorite place of mine for solid soul food. It's located on Carter Street in the Parramore area of downtown, right alongside the 408. I haven't yet been there for dinner, but the breakfast and lunch offerings are a winner. As a fish-eating vegetarian, my choices for lunch are limited to a veggie plate of three vegetables served with corn bread and a small cup of fruit; or to tilapia, fried or grilled. On my latest visit, I chose stewed okra and tomatoes, mac and cheese, and collard greens. I poured some of Nikki's delicious homemade hot pepper vinegar over the collard greens. Lunch specials range from $6.25 to $9.50 and include two side items and corn bread. The ox tails are the highest-priced entree. An African-American friend of mine once told me that ox tails used to be inexpensive until white people discovered them. I love 'em, and they are one of the things I miss as a non-meat-eater. You can go "full-soul" and try items such as chitterlings (chitlins), pork neck bones, pig ears or pig tails. Or if you aren't that adventurous, they offer pork chops, smothered rib tips, meat loaf, chicken wings, beef stew and more. Give this small, popular neighborhood eatery a try. I think you'll love it.

Simple and excellent southern food that even this former yankee could appreciate. I heard about this place a few years ago. Yet, almost never in this area. It did not disappoint. For the first time, lunch order, just selected the pork chop, collard greens and okra/tomatoes. Each items was perfectly cooked. I want to get back there to try more of their more unique southern food selections.

This place is good ol southern food. Chicken, fish, smothered pork chop, smothered steak, collards, and corn bread. Made with a lot of butter and salt, so don't come if you are worried about your caloric intake or arteries :-) There are some healthy options but why come to a soul food place? Food was great. The service was even better. I almost felt like I was eating dinner in my living room. I love small businesses like this and always try to support them. Nikki's place also gives back to the community and donates supplies to underserved public schools. Props to them!!!

This is the only good Southern food restaurant in Orlando. I use to go almost every week but, unfortunately because of my work hours I haven't been in months. Everything is flavorful and plentiful. The prices are also very reasonable. What I like the most about them is that everything is made from scratch and fresh. It is definitely a great alternative to chain restaurants. The location is a dive in an awful neighborhood but, don't let that turn you off because it is safe during their business hours and I never had any issues. It is clean and the staff is personable and attentive. I feel sorry for them because they have a lot of low income customers who complain a lot and try to get something for nothing. This is the type of restaurant that you just happen to stubble upon and don't expect anything from. However, after eating here you will go out of your way in the future to eat here.

So they closed down Mama Nems. I wish I could have attended the funeral it was one of the best soul food places anywhere. This was supposed to be the replacement, eagerly I ventured out... To get to this place I saw hookers (that's right hookers) at 5pm on a Friday afternoon. They weren't at the place but about a mile away. The things you gotta do to get some good soul food... I had chitlins, mac and cheese, and greens. The chitlins had some extra taste to them, I think they were either a little too greasy or buttery. The mac and cheese was basically cheese and butter with a little bit of mac. The greens were fine but no pepper sauce? What self-respecting soul food place has no pepper sauce. Sure they had vinegar but it ain't the same. After finishing I think I could feel my arteries clogging, the food was that rich. Trust me I love me some good soul food but this is the first place that put me over the top. And we won't even talk about the waitress asking if I wanted to eat-in or take it to go and then saying, "then sit down then." Soup Nazi anyone?

So, I felt like I was in my grandmother's kitchen!! This was one of the best meals out that I've had in a very long time! So we went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was not busy at all. The service was excellent and everyone was so nice! I had the shrimp & grits which was beyond great! It had a wonderful sauce with the full flavor of the shrimp. You get eggs however you want them cooked (I had scrambled) and your choice of breads (I had wheat toast). I could eat this everyday for breakfast!! I can't wait to get back there for lunch or dinner next time!! Happy eating!!

Spo I get a Living Social Deal and really wanted to try out this place for a minute. Finally got around to it. Now I am ok to travel to places that are off the beaten path but this felt like home where I grew up in Chicago in the "HOOD" The staff greeted me and was very helpful during my visit. I saw that they had the 5.00 meal and I thought that was pretty cool. I ordered the Beef Stew with Mac n Cheese and Cabbage with a the Sweetest TEA..lol The reason I only gave it three stars was because My wife wasn't too thrilled about the meatloaf and the baked beans and the Mac n Cheese. I told her that she was hard to satisfy when it comes to other people's cooking. They could have def' did a better job with the meat loaf. But I won't make this my last visit. I think I'll have to try other items. Other than that I will return and give them another opportunity. I know it doesn't taste like My Grandmother's cooking but hey! what do you expect. Bon appetit'

Checked out Nikki's based on YELP reviews. This is a GREAT find. NIkki and the other folks serving are so nice and the food is so great. A little out of the way, but so worth it!!! I was in Orlando for a conference and so I asked Nikki to help me try a bunch of stuff and she was so patient and fun and so very helpful. The food: the fried chicken was cooked perfectly--juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside--and the coating had a really great flavor. The smothered rib meat was tender and had a great flavor. The yellow rice I chose with it was subtly flavored and very nice. The beef stew was very tender and yet not at all dry and it had a great flavor. The collard greens were wonderful. Although I'm used to them having pork, Nikki told me she and her father decided not to make them with pork so that vegetarians could eat there. What was so cool is the greens had a really great flavor--they were slightly spicy and also had a slight sweetness. They didn't have the smokey flavor you have if pork is added, but I didn't miss it at all. The candied yams were so great--sweet yet they had many layers of flavor--I sensed a hint of ginger, lemon, cloves, brown sugar and nutmeg--but those are all just my guesses. The yams were sweet but not too sweet. The rutabagas were also wonderful. They're boiled and yet they have a lot of flavor--loved them! I also tried the potato salad and it had a great balance of mustard and mayo with the other flavors. The sweet potato pie was perfect--not too sweet and the crust was perfect-- crispy and yet very light. LOVED the sweet tea. This is the real deal. Great, great find! Thanks, yelpers!
