If you are not shy and love to sing, this is a place for you! Rising Star brings your home karaoke up a notch. There's a gigantic stage, a live band AND BACK UP SINGERS behind you! You are not singing alone. It will make anyone who sound bad sounds great because of them. Hahaha! The crowd is excellent. The live band just makes the whole environment so lively and almost everyone is singing and cheering you on. It's only $7 to get in! It's a great place for any parties. Go there early to get a table. If you want to sing, you also want to get there early to put your name on the list. :)

I love going here! It's a chance to sing with a live band, backup singers, a host, and a nice stage! They have a limited songlist that is listed on their facebook page in the notes section. Get there early. I've gotten there early and gotten there late. When you get there early, you wait forever and even if you stay until the end only get two songs. However, if you show up later, you are lucky to get one song in. The way it works is they will only do a song once, so once it is gone, it is gone. So have a couple of backup choices. The hot ones go fast. On their off nights, it is just like regular karaoke (without a live band) but still fun. It can get really loud; bring earplugs. Last time I was there, my vocals weren't turned up enough. (Although there had been some bad singers that night!). Anyways, we always try to fit it in when we are in town as it is one of our favorite activities in Orlando.

Rising Star is a fun evening outing but the band is quite loud as the DJ so I spent most of the time trying to yell to my companions in order to communicate.

I gave a 2 star only because their set up was good....the service lacked majority, we walked in at 1am and asked if we could sing and we were assure we could.... Never happened..then the waiter didn't even let us finish our drink. They kicked us out of our table at 1;30 the very second they announced they were closing... I mean seriously took our money then kicked us out immediately after we got our drinks. They handed us plastic cups and told us to drink it outside. You should give your customers 100% even if they are tourists.

Rising Star can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately having a live band means a very limited selection of songs. Unlike some City Walk clubs, Rising Star has their drink prices listed, and I really appreciate that. Maybe one day I'll get bold enough to go on stage. It's only $7 bucks to get in, but I prefer to get the Party Pass so I can go to other clubs if I want to take a break from karaoke.

If you love karaoke, then this is the place to go. Personally, I'm not a fan, but my friends are so I decided to check it out with them. This place is located in City Walk and is huge! I wasn't too happy that there was a $7 cover, but it makes sense since there is a live band, which is really cool. We were sat at a tiny table towards the back, but still had a decent view of the stage. Each table had a drinks list and a song list. Not all songs are listed on this list. We asked the waitress if they had a certain song and she brought over another really big list. A lot of songs on the list are popular right now, which is interesting. When she took our drink orders, she asked if we wanted to start a tab. We all wanted to pay separately, so we said no. When she brought us our drinks, she also brought each of us our bills and wanted to be paid right away. Apparently, it's not like a restaurant where you can order multiple drinks and you pay at the end. I thought this was kind of weird because I felt like I was being rushed out even though we were planning to stay for a few hours. I only ended up ordering one drink because of this. The band is phenomenal. They played every song incredibly well and there were even backup singers who sing along with you. If you don't know all of the words, they do have screens on stage, however they are basically on the floor, so it looks like most people are staring at the ground most of the time. The view is so much better from the upstairs balcony. I wish I knew that when I first arrived because I would have set upstairs rather than all the way in the back. Overall I had a fun night. The drinks were good and the people were entertaining. Like I said, I'm not really a karaoke fan, so between the cover and the hassle of paying, I'm probably not going to go back.

Place was nice. It was set up like a real music venue. It had very yummy drinks. The entry price wasn't to bad. Not many food choices only pizza.

I love karaoke so we ended up coming to this joint. The song list was a real let down, but the full stage with back up singers was a really cool concept. They only allow two singers on stage at a time, so don't plan on going up in a group. I am okay with loud music, but the speakers here were really, really loud to the point that it was uncomfortable. I really wanted to move to another bar, but my group was enjoying it so we stuck around. They offered a basic margarita, but I did not like the margarita mix they used (apparently made in house but tasted like something from a bottle). It is a cool concept, but they really could have done a better job with the execution.

Karaoke to a whole new level. This place rocks. Been here multiple times and every time we come we have a blast. The interesting part is that the folks that you see walk up to that stage and you say to yourself oh lord this person does not look like they can pull off that song. Then they start and they sound better than the original artist. We will continue to visit this place when in town.

Really cool spin on karaoke! Live band and back-up singers to help you if you're off when you sing. So great! ... that is, if you can get over your stage fright because you really are up there putting on a show. The downfall is that names are picked at random. So you could essentially pay the $7 cover and never get called to sing your song. That could suck. Luckily for my group, both our singers got called up in the span of an hour! The other con is that the song selection isn't a nice big book like other regular karaoke places. It makes sense, though, so the band doesn't need to know every song ever created on the face of this earth.

I would give it less stars if I could. There was a private event until 10 and we arrived shortly after it opened to the public. The band was great, but it took them an HOUR AND A HALF before they even touched the bucket for song requests. I get they have a lot of requests, but at least make your audience think you care about the main reason they came to your place.

  • Stephanie C.

I love the band, environment, and service. I'm not too happy with their song list, but I understand in a way because they're playing live music. The clerk at the front was kinda rude, but what can you really expect from a bar. The breaks they take between sets vary between 20-30 minutes which can really put a damper on your mood. Other than that, I'd be back.

    (4)
  • Jennifer C.

It was ok for the first hour or so but then it's just repetitious. I have never been to a karaoke bar and this experience was exactly like I thought it would be and why I have always avoided them. The one person that wanted to sing from our group never got called even though we saw other people going up several times and why do they need to take a 45 min break after 4-5 singers? P.S. The $2 shots are basically kool-aid. don't waste your money.

  • Kerri L.

If you're into karaoke you will LOVE this place. Small selection, but you're backed by a live band and backup singers. A lot of good singers go up and it was entertaining to watch. The beer selection is just awful. If you're going to go, go earlier in the evening. We stayed for a few hours, but when it started to get late it started to smell REALLY nasty in there so we left. But before that it was swell.

I came here last Saturday and it was pretty fun! I enjoyed my time with my girls. It's a $7 cover charge and the drinks are pretty cheap. I mean compared to Miami, I thought I got my drinks for a great price. This is a place where people like to karaoke and just let loose. There's a upstairs and downstairs where you can sit and enjoy the show that people put on for you. If you want to sing, you have to hurry and put your name in the jar because it's a wait. Where you enter is where the list and card where you will enter info for anyone to sing. There is a band already on stage. Backup singers, guitarist, and a drummer. You are the star of the show. Some others can even see you outside from their outside TV's. It's like you are putting on a concert. Luckily for us, there were people who had a geat voice. It was such a great time. Can't wait to do it again!

I love this place!! My two complaints are that the bathroom is upstairs and is a little inconvenient and that the drinks are expensive, but that's to be expected when you're on Universal property. If you want to feel like you're a famous singer, this is the place. You've got a full band, back-up singers/dancers and are up on a big stage with strobe lights, spot lights and a smoke machine! It's the real deal. They don't have a huge selection of song choices, but you're sure to find something you like between the recent hits as well as the good old classics. If your friends don't want to sing with you, and you don't want to do it alone, they have singers up on stage to help you out to make you feel more comfortable and there are plenty of screens with the lyrics on them so you can feel free to move around on stage and can see from anywhere. There is tons of seating here, there's an upstairs and downstairs. They have wait staff to take your orders so you don't have to miss any of the performers by having to get up and go to the bar.

Located over at Universal CityWalk. It's live band karaoke! Love it. The venue is great. Two levels. Restrooms on the second level. Fun and entertaining. I left my card here and found out the hard way that they turn in lost and found items to the park over at Islands of Adventure. For my card, I was told after 3 days they'll cut up and dispose of it. I couldn't call and find out this minor detail because they didn't open until the evening.. Besides that, this place is great.

This is the coolest Karaoke bar EVER!.I don't even usually like Karaoke and I loved this place. The club itself is absolutely beautiful. It has a real upscale feel with plenty of seating and standing areas. The stage is raised and good sized, to accompany the great live band and the back up singers. Everyone sounds multiple times better with the band than a recorded track. This place is great fun.

    (5)
  • Courtney K.

This place is really cool! Didn't know what to expect when we were going in but it's actually a pretty big place. There's a good size seating area in front of the stage and there is an upper level with a bunch of chairs and tables. On stage, each singer gets their own backup singers and live band. We got to see some pretty good singers... as well as some not so good -_- A very chill atmosphere, in between acts they play music videos which is nice to just hang out too and get a drink. Only thing is that the bathrooms are on the second floor and kind of in the cuts.

Probably one of the best love karaoke experiences you will ever have. The drinks here are okay, but that's no problem. You can bring drinks from anywhere in City Walk into this place. You can also bring in your own food. If you are looking for a great time with your friends this is the place! If you love karaoke, this is the spot for you!

  • Alyssa N.

I do not participate in karaoke, however the environment at this place was great! Our group of 4 showed up as they opened the doors on a chilly rainy night and it looked liked we'd be the only ones. People started to trickle in and there was eventually a pretty decent group. The drinks were great and before I knew it we were closing the place down. Had a great time and would definitely go back. The host was funny and engaging and the back up singers were awesome. Such a fun place to go!

  • Katie H.

Fun concept. Definitely fun if you're planning on being at the bar all night anyways. You may not get your chance to karaoke, so don't plan on it. Good enough song list. So-so drinks. My vodka and cranberry was nasty. The cranberry juice they use was too syrupy. One guy rocked the joint, most others were bad and it wasn't as entertaining as we thought it would be, plus we didn't get to sing. The band often takes breaks, too so that cuts down on karaoke opportunities.

Are guys ever aloud to sing in this place? I've been here twice and put my name in both times, yet I've never seen any guy get picked to sing, yet. Kinda sucks!

  • Anna M.

I do NOT recommend "Rising Star" if you actually want to get on stage and sing. They basically just let the same ten people go over and over again, and while the last few singers were stellar, is was obvious they were regulars and therefore took precedence to go before us. We were there around 8:30, put songs in to sing and left at midnight having no one from our party called up yet... Not pleased with them at all.

This was a seriously great karaoke bar. Between the mega-selection, the backup singers helping you to sound your best, and the real stage set-up, there is no comparison between Rising Star and the next best karaoke I've sang. Even at a bad karaoke bar, I'm what the cat dragged in, but at Rising Star I was about three standard deviations below the mean. Rising Star attracts some very talented singers, which can be intimidating for off-key wannabes like me. On the flip side, it makes for a truly fun-to-watch show while you wait your turn. Drinks were kinda crappy--served in cheap plastic disposable cups, and on the small side (except for the pours of wine, which were gigantic). However, the server kept 'em coming, so we were rarely without a cup in hand. I was here with a group and we did notice that while the ladies were able to sing a few times, the gentlemen were never called up, despite submitting our song selections at the same time. That was frustrating for our friends who wanted to join us in making fools of themselves. The backup singers were also able to perform a few times, and while they were very good, it's again frustrating to not get your turn as a customer while the staff performs. Overall, this was a really fun idea for a group outing, and a terrific karaoke bar. It was worth the $7 cover. I apologize to the others in the audience who may feel differently after hearing me mangle the hits of yesterday and today.

All the negative criticisms about this place are 100% true. Before it was called Rising Star, back around 2006 or so, it used to be called CityJazz, and it still did karaoke, but only on Monday nights. However, on Monday nights, karaoke is ALL they did, and there was none of this backup singer rubbish AND they didn't stop after every five singers to squander away an entire half hour playing DJ dance music that you can go to any club on the planet to hear. That's just lazy and tacky. This "new" format that they've had for several years now, is just garbage, and the only reason it sticks around is that it's what the new owners seem to want, as it milks a lot more money out of customers as they wait indefinitely for their chance to sing on the incredible stage, to incredible background music. I guess the owners have coldly calculated that this particular format is just perfect for stringing customers along waiting, and it keeps them there buying very expensive drinks, and making a lot of money for the establishment. Anyhow, if you really want to sing karaoke in this part of Orlando, don't waste your time at Rising Star. Go instead to O'Shucks on International Drive, or Kimono's Japanese restaurant in the Swan Hotel in Disneyworld. Both those places have good karaoke with a good crowd, and you WILL actually get a fair chance at not only singing, but singing a LOT more than at this place.

This place is a total TOURIST TRAP!!! The concept is really cool with a live band and backup singers...if they EVER call your name! They start around 9 pm, you pay $7 cover, no biggie. Drinks are pricey and very small. Sat there with a very large group of people. Many of which put in requests to sing. After 2 HOURS still no names on the screen to sing in the next 8 turns. The catch is, they let all their friends and regulars (employees of Universal Studios) go up (multiple times) even when they arrived after we did. Then, make you sit and wait for your turn and you keep pumping money into the bar. I understand they need to make money at the bar from making you wait, but since the bar closes at 2 am, they make your time run out until they are eventually closed and no one gets to sing from your group. Even if you complain, they don't care because you're not coming back soon or ever because you're not a local. Complained to a manager after almost 3 hours and called out what was happening. Eventually let 4 of our 20 people perform before they closed. Completely ridiculous, I could've gone to drink anywhere, we went to see our friends perform and do karaoke. RIP OFF!

Being big karaoke nuts, finding this as we explored Universal's City Walk was quite the surprise and a welcome of finding a new place to sing our hearts out. The feel is of a lounge but with an upper area to accomodate for all the crowds that will come on certain days. They say there is a cover charge, however we arrived early enough and the bouncers let us in free. The setup is pretty awesome. It gives you the experience of having your own band without feeling bad if you don't sing well. If you forget your lyrics, the backup singers and the host will quickly help you out and you'll never miss a beat. Do expect to have a fun and crazy time! This is a great concept and I wish it was available in other cities across the USA. It was great fun and when we plan on going back to Orlando in the future, we will definitely be making this a nightly stop.

It's nice to have a live band and professional looking stage/lighting for karaoke, but Rising Star has a very artificial feel to it. The song choice is limited to mostly mainstream pop songs and the host was very forgettable to put it nicely. They have strictly enforced rules against using props or changing anything about the song (e.g. speaking during or adding parts to the song), which further added to the cookie cutter vibe. This might be fine for a tourist looking for something to do after spending the day at Universal, but there are many better local karaoke spots if you want to have a fun and laid back night.

  • Elizabeth N.

Cool idea, but it didn't work out for us. First of all the drinks are RIDICULOUS!! $6.00 for a Rum and Coke and they serve them in little plastic cups. I have never seen such a small drink. My husband put his name into sing..and we waited..and waited..and waited..and waited. Nothing! I swear they want you to wait so you keep spending your money on your dixie cup drinks!

Awesome spin on the typical karaoke. First thoughts--not as full as it could be... I'm used to seeing packed clubs and bars around the CityWalk area so having a place divided by scattered tables seems unusual... but no matter. This format helped deliver a more "upscale karaoke" experience rather than the drunken song ramblings I've seen. The host (often the main backup singer) keeps things moving along nicely; the live backup band is highly talented that sometimes it seems a waste they have to play 2nd string to the main feature--the sometimes "not as talented" karaoke singers. There's only a page full of songs you can choose from--but almost all are lively pieces. This is when the table format can be unfortunate because of that urge to dance. Sometimes you have to be content dancing near your table... but with the fear of knocking over some server with your drinks. DRINKS = Not the biggest selection here of cocktails or craft beer--they aim to please the general crowd instead.

Fun place - packed by the time we had our first drink. Well worth the $7 cover IMO especially if you have people in your group that are into Karaoke.

Just note two things here: 1.) Expect to have crazy fun and laugh 2.) Expect to wait a long time to sing if you get here late. Rising Star is a great place to go with friends, listen to music and just relax. I certainly would never sing, but love to listen and watch. The band is great, and the wait staff is reasonably quick. I am not a fan of the cover, but that is the case for a few of the City Walk bars. It would be wise to get a Party Pass if you planned on going to more than one bar.

The doorman Patrick was really polite when I asked him questions about the venue and I told him I read up on the place on yelp and he told me he would let me in free. When I was seated,my waitress Denise, treated me very well and was very friendly, smiled and joked. She later recommended me to a dance place, her husband worked at and I got in free there as well. The live band was a neat concept for karaoke. The host was nice and also funny, the back up singers were cute and the band itself was really good. The song selection was a little limited which was understandable being that the band had to remember all the songs that people picked. They even had sound guys in the back making the singers sound as in tune as possible. It was all very professional, fun and a neat experience for the singer and spectator alike. Other than the bathroom being out of way on the top floor and lack of variety on the food menu, this place was fun and they treated me well.

There is a karaoke part of this bar where people can select a set list of songs and go up stage to sing. They are accompanied with a band (includes main singer, two back up girls, and the musical instruments). It is very intimidating, for me at least, when all the people who go up to sing are darn good! They definitely pick the type of songs that wants to get everyone in the audience involved. Note: I bought my island of adventures ticket from my sheraton hotel and they gave us 2 for 1 drink tickets to bars in the area and this was one of it. So we got two 2 for 1 tickets and it was a great deal here!

The REAL review about Rising Star...let me be fair here. If you are looking to do Karaoke this is a good place for it. If you are looking to enjoy yourself with friends and have drinks this place is a pathetic joke. Let me tell you why...I was there with 3 co workers being completely polite, in control, and we tipped the servers well. My friend put his head down briefly because he had a headache. Within 2 min a couple short, low paid, boners (Rising Star security guards) kicked us out. They said my friend put his head down and that was not acceptable. Upon kicking us out Paul Bart (Mall Cop) felt he needed to call backup. Why? I don't know why. Anyway he called backup, got a half chubb, stroked his own nipples and attempted to walk us out. That's when I told him how much of a loser he actually was. He rode a Segway, carried a billy club, and had two trap doors in his shirt for easy nipple access. He was a big man tonight. Anyway..Upon cooperating and leaving we were approached by yet another guy with little man syndrome. Also stroking his own nipples officer Ross proceeded to harass us. If you ever go to city walk and run into officer Ross make sure you urinate on him. He won't do anything. He is actually a bus boy at Margaritaville playing cops and robbers. You will recognize him because he will most likely be arresting people with plastic handcuffs and a squirt gun for absolutely nothing. OR you could just look for the only guy with trap door nipple access built into his batman shirt. Did I mention his wife doesn't ever have sex with him? In closing...they missed out on a great rendition of Young MC Bust a move. We were ready to sing.

This place is entertaining! I mean, who doesn't love to laugh at people who are drunk out of their mind by the time it's their turn to sing that they either utter gibberish into the microphone or try to dance foolishly on stage? Or people who are actually pretty darn good at singing and knock your socks off the moment they open their mouths? Or awesome friends who love to sing and cheering them on? (You can use the video for blackmail later...sshhh) Their cocktails are meh and overpriced. The food (typical appetizers) are below average and extremely overpriced. But the food and drinks are not why you come here. Unless you just want to drink beer then they have that and well, you know how they taste. There's a cover, as is usual with all the "clubs" in CityWalk and you must come early if you want to sit, especially if you're with a big group. Like others have said, the song selection is just a-ok. And you're pretty much screwed if someone else got picked with the same song that you wrote down, but that's why you get 2 choices! The live band and backup singers are awesome. I really must give them kudos for being so good at what they do, and having to deal with the obnoxious singers. Now I'm going to YouTube the skinny, white boy whom I saw perform Baby Got Back with absolute perfection.

Looking for a great spot for people who love to sing or just listen to karaoke ? This is the Cadillac of Karaoke with a full live band as your back up, even the worst of the worst sound good. Oh and you also get two hot fly girls as backup singers and dancers... Truly enjoyed the evening. Drinks prices are reasonable and the food isn't bad for snacks and filler food. Had a great time !

While spending a weekend in Orlando, I begged Deanne T. to go here as I am a huge karaoke nut. The feel is that of an intimate jazz lounge in a major city with tables on the lower level and a balcony above. There is a cover charge but the drinks are pretty average for what you would expect in any major city. The karaoke setup is pretty incredible. They give you the experience of playing in a band without having to worry about forgetting the lyrics, falling off stage, or even having to pick up your equipment after you're done playing. If you start to stumble on a song, the backup singers and the host quickly jump in to help you out so you never have that awkward silence a DJ only place would have. I would highly recommend stopping by this bar if you find yourself wandering around CityWalk.
