I have always loved Charlie's and have often used them for special occasions over the years. Last summer, my friends put together a little going away party for me and ordered a custom cake. It was delicious!!! Everyone at the party raved about the cake and by the end of the evening there was not a crumb in site. I definitely recommend Charlie's. I especially recommend the cake flavor combination my friends put together: Yellow cake with vanilla custard (made in house), a grand maniar drizzle, and whipped cream frosting.

I was on a mission to pick up desserts for a girls night in. Since I was getting off work around 5p most of the well known bakeries around town were closing for the day. I remembered reading some really great reviews about this place so decided to check them out. I decided to call before making the drive there to make sure their hours were correct(open till 7pm on a Wed!) and that they still had a good selection of items for purchase . The girl I spoke to on the phone was soooooo nice. I already had a good feeling. Apparently this place is a longtime Orlando institution. I have friends who mentioned going here back in the 70's!!! As soon as I arrived I could see why. The selection of desserts was sensory overload...I didn't know where to look first. It was a dessert lover's dream--case after case of various desserts from breakfast pastries to full sized cakes and pies. Thankfully I wasn't holding up a line and the employee was oh so patient with me. I decided to get a sampling of items -- strawberry shortcake, tiramisu, Italian rum cake, peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake and baklava. I got a resounding 2 thumbs up from the employee telling me I picked some popular items. I told her I would have to come back to pick up some of the pb and choc cheesecake for my husband and she recommended calling b/c they sell out so fast. Nice tip! I would definitely keep them in mind for special occasions and dinner parties. Since it's their sole location, their desserts are going to be one of a kind and not found anywhere else. And for those who want to know, the desserts were a hit with my friends. Especially that PB cheesecake!

Tried the bakery's food truck and was actually really disappointed. We got a little bit of everything: the cannoli, carrot cake, and chocolate cream cup. The cannoli was just sugary cream with a salty outside, nothing the special. The carrot cake was very dry and had little flavor. The chocolate cream cup was chocolate pudding with a cookie crumble on the bottom. Not bad, but really nothing special but for a place and for a place that's been around for decades with several accolades, I expected something way better.

On a whim I decided to abandon my usual Publix cake and go to Charlie's for my son's birthday cake. This turned out to be an excellent choice. As soon as I walked in I knew I had found a winner. As others mentioned the staff are friendly and greeted me as soon as I entered. I called my son quickly and listed the available options in the display case and he decided on the whipped coconut cream pie. Since it was for a birthday (birthday pie?) I asked if they were able to write a name on it. The salesperson said she couldn't write on that kind of pie because of the whipped topping but she did have a birthday decoration she was able to add. The pie was amazing. We had family visiting and they all raved about it. The pie even earned an "I don't usually like coconut cream pie, but this is great" from my mother-in-law, and compliments from her are hard to come by. I am sure I will be back to Charlie's soon. There were so many amazing looking pastries that I want to go back and try them all. I'll have to pace myself.

Just the facts.... Mom wanted a fresh cherry pie for her birthday cake. Since Charlie's had been worth the trip for special occasions in the past and we wanted the best, we made the trek. There were 3 beautiful looking pies in the case, one Apple, one berry and one cherry. I asked the friendly employee behind the counter for the freshest one they had, hoping for one right out of the oven since it was a special occasion. She looked at the pie, said it was the only one they had and told me it was baked on 7/23. Today is 7/27. So $13.95 for a 4 day old pie in a specialty bakery. I declined. One star for an honest employee. Sorry to see the once best bakery in the area go downhill.

This used to be my favorite bakery because everything tasted home made /from scratch. I've gotten cakes and pastries that were in the case for days and super dry. Finally this last time I went in to buy something and said "last few times were not good" so she checks the date on the cake and says "yeah don't buy it, it's so many days old" so they clearly aren't moving any product like they used to. The chocolate chip cookies don't taste like buttery home made cookies anymore either. They were horrible. PLUS they just raised their prices. No thanks. I'll be on the search for a new bakery.

Charlie's is an old time favorite, good memories of my mom bringing me when I was younger. I love their strawberry shortcake! & their Parker house rolls are amazing! Great place for a sweet treat! Pies, brownies, cookies, danishes & of course cakes!

Visited Charlie's this morning and picked up some Chocolate Tulip cups. These things are addicting. They are shaped like tulips and the cup is made of chocolate. Then they have a creamy chocoolate filling with a straw made of white chocolate. It's finished off with shaved chocolate on top. There's never enough chocolate if you ask me. They only had 7 in the case but the lady told me they could make me more if I wanted to and in less than 10 minutes, I had my dozen ready to go. The girls at the office were very pleased! I also had Rum Balls which are balls made of chocolate cake which is dipped in Rum and later rolled in more chocolate. They were good but don't compare to the Tulip Cups! I am curious to try their cakes and that is on my list for next time.

I think I found heaven today! Oh my! I cannot begin to describe the delicious Christmas cookies I picked up this morning. Thank you previous Yelp posts - I stopped in this little gem for the Christmas cookie exchange, and ate the majority of them myself!!! I cannot wait to go back and try another delicious treat!

I stopped here this am and bought some Quesitos. These are giant size puffed pastries filled with cream cheese and guava. You can also buy them with just the cream cheese. Wow, they were yummy! Puff pastries have no calories because they are all air right? lol The tasty puffs were only $2.95 a piece. They had many varieties of pastry goodies to choose from. Very reasonably priced too. They also make cakes, pie, cheesecake and assorted breads. I'll definitely be back to try something else. The staff was extremely friendly and they seem to have a following of regular customers in the am. They also have coffee brewing in the morning if you're a early bird.

Charlie's does desserts well. Although not the best (fill in the blank) in town they are probably the best you're going to find in this part of town and definitely going to blow away any local groceries. Service on my visit was average- the two women working the counter were not super friendly or helpful. We picked an assortment of items- cookies, mini cakes, cream horns, napoleons, etc. They had some fabulous looking pies and cakes in the fridge. I may just have to order one for my next special occasion! I've tried the strawberry cheesecake at a friend's party. I was told it was the best cheesecake EVER- a steep claim. I thought it was delicious but not the best I've ever had. It seems that the fillings at Charlie's are more creamy than sweet. But I figure you can't go wrong with anything you choose, you'll be happy. I would feel confident treating my guests to one of Charlie's delicious desserts.

Most delicious cupcakes in town, maybe even in all of Florida. I've been going to charlies for 20 years, and nothing anywhere else compares.
