I've been here on numerous occasions with my boyfriend and quite frankly it's hit or miss with this place. I've had meals that I have enjoyed thouroughly and meals that were absolutely terrible. I feel the same way about the service. We have friends from NY who are totally committed to this place though which is why we dine there so often. A few years back, the son opened his own restaurant off Narcoosee (with the same name) and both times we have been there, the food and service were absolutely outstanding but I'm not sure if it is still there or not. If so, I would strongly recommend trying that one.

I love this place!! This has a great atosphere and is VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY! The food is wonderful and they have a great menu. They also have a small italian Deli in the front where you can get great stuff. They also have a bar area which is very nice and has a large flat screen TV for sports. I promise you will love this place.

For authentic Italian that's not overpriced, this is where I usually hit up. Cariera's can be hit or miss but most of the time it's a hit. The service is generally decent. There's one server who more "seasoned" than the rest and she tends to do a great job. Works more off common sense than just trying to get through the day. Very helpful and allows you to get the most out of your visit. The food generally tends to be very good. I usually get the Grilled Chicken Penne. I think it's delicious. Comes with slices of chicken, penne pasta, broccoli, and sun-dried tomatoes in a light cream sauce. YUMMY! Really I get that every time I go. I have sampled off others plates though. Tried some fish, was blah. My only big complaint about the food is the salad. I mean, it's not hard to put together a side salad that is good. Cariera's tends to go with just iceberg, two cherry tomatoes, and some other stuff. I mean, if your paying extra for a side salad, do a little better than that. Take a lesson from Brick n Fire (one of the best side salads in town IMHO)! I will say one my wife ordered an entree salad and it was the most gorgeous salad I'd ever seen. We asked the server and she mentioned they had just hired a new salad guy. Think he probably worked like 5-star service before here. Don't think he works at Cariera's anymore though. :'( Also, one time went with someone who ordered the "Low Carb Pizza". Yaaaa, it's pizza without any dough. It's basically just the toppings, cheese and some sauce on a plate...very strange. Anyways, they have Happy Hour from 4 - 7pm with discounted wine, beer, and single malts. I want to say it's house wine being half off and $1 off domestic drafts. The house Merlot is quite good!

This place has been around since I was a kid and the food has always been good. Love this place and always will (for the memories...). The happy hour here is good, great appetizer specials and the drinklet specials are superb (but the drinks themselves aren't that great haha). As of late it has gotten better, I like the breadsticks a lot and the meatball pizza is really tasty! Plus they have a new and improved menu that makes it a little better.

We went tonight for dinner and it was very, very good. I didn't like the old menu and hadn't been there for years but I understand it's under new ownership and I looked at their menu and liked what I saw. I ate the snapper Milanese and it was delicious. It was fresh snapper, a nice sized piece with crabmeat on top. I asked for no cream. It came with cut up potatoes and little pieces of zucchini sautéed in olive oil. We ordered a side of rapini and it was too much for the two of us to finish so we took it home. My husband had clam linguine and it was really good. The bread was warm and crusty. Our waiter was great! I would go back and have the snapper again or try something different. The place was 80% full. They had live entertainment at 8 o'clock, probably only on the weekends. The musicians were pretty good too though we left right before they started but we heard them after we came back from a walk and they sounded good. They have a nice dessert menu but we didn't try any of it so I can't say if they are any good. The wine by the glass was reasonably priced and I highly recommend the Collepino Sangiovese Merlot blend that was recommended by our waiter Chafik. I didn't think they were expensive at all. There are many nice restaurants in the area that I like and this is one of them. Again, it's a good menu and I hope to try more dishes.

this had to be one of the worst Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at. To start the Italian wedding soup was broth with meatballs. No pastalini, no escurale and no flavor. Veal saltimbaca was floating in sea of I know not what with onions. And to top it all off my 7 year old grandson threw up on the ride home. I would NEVER go here again.

Absolutely heartbroken that this place was closed when we stopped by in July. It was our favorite "real" place to eat in a sea of tourist hype. We'll stop by to see what the new place is like, but I'm fearful that it will become just another ho-hum restaurant. New owners have big shoes to fill.

Girlfriend and I decided to try this place on a whim while visiting Orlando. The first thing I can say is the staff is very inviting. We were immideatly greeted at the door with a smile, and our hostess and waitress were no less inviting. Everything we needed through our experience was brought to us without having to ask. As for the food, it's exactly what you would expect from an Italian restaurant in America. We ordered mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, and split a chicken and shrimp pasta. The presentation is a little lackluster, but the food was quite delicious. Splitting a dish was a wise choice on our part, as we were left extremely full. I noticed almost everyone carrying out a take-home box, so make sure you go in prepared to tackle a heavy portion. The pricing was reasonable, but could get expensive quickly if you're in a party of 3 or more. The atmosphere has a sort of business/casual feel, so you'll want to dress a little nice for the occasion. We probably won't be rushing back, but if you're looking for good Italian in the area, this place is certainly worth a look.

The food at this place just sucks. The only good thing was the bread that they served us before having our lunch served. My husband ordered mussels and they came overlooked and slimy maybe because there was too much flour in the sauce. He then had a chicken Parmesan with pasta on the side and he said that the chicken was way too hot like it was reheated or something. He left half of it and ate the pasta. I ordered a full house salad with a grilled chicken breast and the chicken came cold (like fridge cold) and the salad was ok except for the old little pieces of red lettuce all over the salad. They should know that when lettuce gets like that you could get really sick if you eat it. In general the quality of the food in this place is low. We will not come back again. Instead we'll go to the Greek place next to it that is fresher and better overall.

This latest incarnation of Cariera's (December 2014) follows several previous ownership changes under that name, and several names before that. But this is the most significant in the span of 25 year we've been going there, because the interior space has been remodeled from pizza parlor to fine dining restaurant. From what we sampled, the new menu backs up this move to upscale Italian dining. Both the Caesar Salad and the Grilled Romaine salad were excellent. The Lobster Ravioli was better than at any of the Italian restaurants in Orlando where we've tried it. And the Chicken Picatta (which they made special because I'm not a veal fan) was also quite excellent. Wine corkage is available and reasonably priced. Service was extremely accommodating, and the manager is gracious and professional. I suspect this restaurant will give the other Italian places in the area significant competition, because the food is better than any of them, and is a fraction of the cost of the closest competitor.

Nice remodel! They definitely stepped up their game compared to when we came a couple years ago. Try the italian wedding soup or ANY hearty italian dish as they do it right. The only complaint was the chicken was super dry in my wrap. We will come back for sure.

They just got done remodeling the restaurant and most of it looks really good. The guest restrooms however look unfinished, as the ceiling looks old and rundown compared to the rest of the bathroom. The stall barely locked and their was no hand soap dispenser, just this plastic bottle laying on its side that I had to fight with to use. The wine list had a selection of over 50 wines, which is great, but only 8 available by the glass! I would have liked to have more options. Their menu is traditional Italian with great flavors, but nothing new and exciting to match their newly renovated restaurant. Just the same old menu items you'd expect to find in an Italian restaurant! Finally, $6 for cannoli! ONE CANNOLI! Really?! REALLY?! A family of 3 with 2 glasses of wine each and our bill was $100 which included a 20% tip. I would try this again for dinner, but would go elsewhere for lunch!

OMG!! Just awesome, had the Shrimp Scampi, was heavenly. Garlic perfection, finished with lemon. Clean plate award went to who, yes me!! Hubby had the Veal Parmigiana, loved. Perfect sauce. Bread was melt in your mouth. Ian our waiter was fantastic. Very knowledgable, great service.

This place is amazing. Great service with delicious food. Every time I eat here I leave satisfied. The food is very light on your stomach but very filling. If you are looking for great Italian food in the Dr. Phillips area stop by here you won't be disappointed.

Had dinner here with some of my family visiting ORL (11 of us) from NH. Nine of us are Italian decent; so we are all familiar with good Italian food. Service was very good, and personable. House wines were very good. Everyone enjoyed their entrees except me; food was well prepared, but portion size was way too small for what you pay; even side dish was too small. Pricey for a family type restaurant. Bread needs inprovement. Desserts were very good, and seemed to be fresh made.

We visited for dinner and we split the greek salad ($8.99) and 14" pizza with artichokes.($15.99) Seems the last time we ordered this some time ago it was better for me. Well, my dining partner had no longing issues with it. Just didn't ring my "pizza, pizza!" bell this time. Perhaps it was the missing roasted peppers I think it had on it before leaving me bit short in the satisfaction dept.?? The greek salad was fresh and delicious; as far as salads can go. Alice was a good attentive momentary attendee at our table. All the patron pictures are removed from the walls so that hometown feel is lost, but their decor renovations are nicely done. Even in the restroom! Go back in 10 days and get a 10% discount! (noted on the receipt)

We've been going to this restaurant for 9 years. It has been sold, and the new management is not up to the standards the previous owner kept. It is still worth going there for their wedding soup which is a favorite of our family's. We also like their ravioli, and their amazing calzones. The bread served prior to the meal used to be wonderful, now it is just so-so. The management has asked the prior owner to step in and help, and so hopefully things will return to their prior grandeur. But even if they don't it's still worth a visit.

Yum. Thankfully, we didn't read reviews before going. This restaurant was picked by our dining companions. We had four adults and four kids. Our server was wonderful. She recommended a good wine and offered tastes. She was excellent filling drinks. We had mozzarella sticks and calamari. Both were out quick and served with plenty of marinara sauce. Our boys got pasta with butter and lasagna. The pasta was a typical serving as this is a typical choice of younger kids. The lasagna was a big serving and very good. I had the chicken parmesan and it was delicious. Three breasts pounded thin and breaded nicely. My wife had the gnocchi with vodka sauce and they were little pillows of heaven. The adult portions were huge and served with soup or salad. I would definitely eat here again.

The place looks nice but the food service/ prep and quality don't match. The starters were not very good. The eggplant was dry and covered in a green and red sauce that did not do justice to the dish. My wife had the carpaccio and it was a few slices of beef covered in about 100 capers, black olives and tomatoes. The Veal parm was very good although something that they put in te sauce that does not work for me. My wife and mother in law had the balsamic chicken and it had way too much acid from the vinegar. It was too over powering. The servers were nice but it seemed chaotic around the kitchen area where they picked up the plates. The owner was actually seated next to us at a party. I hope they fix what's broken and actually read the ratings as most of them are not conducive for success.

I heard the place has been there for 25 years and is about to be remodeled (which it needs). I never knew about the place until a local mentioned it and I have to say I really enjoyed the food. The chicken marsala is amazing and I have not found a comparable dish since. I have been back three more times just for the dish and it has been consistently amazing. I highly recommend the place if you don't want chain food and a place you can bring the kids.

We were in Orlando on business. Had been to Orlando several times over the years and had found another Italian place that we loved. But when we called to see about reservations they were full two days out and the person at the place was rather rude. Not what we had experienced before. Guess when you grow you get a little bit pride full... So we Yelped and found this place. You walk in and the first thing you see is a deli case full of olives and meats and cheeses. The friendly hostess greeted us and took us to our seats. The Italian decor was great, not to fancy but not too plain either. Like a local Italian eatery. Not too crowded but not empty either. I ordered the Veal Cariera, a house specialty. Wow! It was excellent! And the salad was a classic Italian salad. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and the portions were more than adequate. And for dessert, classic Creme Brule. Nice glazed top and creamy middle. The service was good, not overbearing, but they didn't leave us alone either. Will definitely be back next time.

Bottom line: This place is way too expensive for what you are getting. I was excited to come here because it is family owned and has been in business since 1975. I also had a Groupon, which was even more exciting. I love getting some money knocked off the tab at a restaurant! By the end of the meal, though, I felt relieved that we had a groupon with us. The prices were ridiculous. I am not one to complain about spending money on food IF the food is worth that price. But honestly? This stuff isn't. Not by a long shot. The pasta is out of a box. The garlic breadsticks aren't even Olive Garden quality (and I hate that place). So why should you pay $20 for linguini and clams? Do yourself a favor: make it at home or try Carrabba's. You'll be getting something that's the same or better than this place for way less money.

This was our first visit after the change in ownership. The food was ok but overpriced for what it is. It's chain restaurant quality food, but at chef owned restaurant prices. The food isn't bad, it's just not special.

Lasagna is great but that's where it ended. Service was HORRIBLE, waiter kept cracking stupid jokes thinking he was funny but really just annoying us more and more. Place was not busy at all (Sunday evening) and we sat there for over an hour waiting on our food. When we got it it was warm/getting cold. To many other good choices out there for Italian, we would not go back. We had only ordered from Doorstep Delivery in the past so we figured we would go in and try it, wrong move. On top of everything else its just to overpriced... $70+ for 2 orders of lasagna, 2 diet cokes and a app... no thanks... lesson learned.

Cariera's Passes The Smell Test..... I recently wrote about our vacation to theme parks in Orlando with another couple while staying in the southwest part of the city. The main street nearby...Sand Lake Road...has an amazing number of attractive non-mass chain restaurants in a 1 mile strip. In fact, several maps labeled the area as "restaurant row" and I can easily see why. We spotted the sign for Cariera's the night we had dinner at TooJay's and a couple of nights later for dinner at Anatolia. Although both served great food, especially Anatolia, we realized it would not be best to travel 3,000 miles and eat 6 dinners at just 2 places. Since all 4 of us favor Italian food, we figured why go anywhere else when we've already hit the jackpot with our first 2 choices on the same block. It was a smart decision. This review is mainly for visitors to Orlando who are suddenly faced with choosing a restaurant from a million choices. How to separate "sizzle" from "substance". Cariera's, like Anatolia and TooJay's, is part of small shopping center in an upscale area near the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Dr. Phillips Blvd. It's fairly large, especially compared to the cafe-type places in the immediate vicinity, but at heart it's a neighborhood family style Italian restaurant. There are 3 distinct dining rooms...a bar with lots of tables, the middle section which seems to be where most people sit and a room to the right which can be used as an extension of the middle or, on the night of our visit, for large private parties. At 730 PM on a Wednesday evening, a small combo and singer began to play near the bar. I was surprised to hear music during the week at an Italian restaurant, but they sounded fine. The menu at Cariera's covers all the basics you'd expect with an added emphasis on pizza. If you like Italian food, you've got a lot of choices. I tend to judge Italian restaurants with the smell test...and I'm not talking about the food. Can you smell the place from the parking lot? Does a thick fog of tomato and herbs smack your jaw when opening the door? Can you imagine elderly people stomping on grapes in a back room? If yes, there's reason to proceed. Cariera's met that initial challenge. The first sight of food was a good omen. Bread rolls were warm and tasty with a hint of garlic. We ordered a entrees of eggplant parmesan...one with steamed vegetables and the other with baked ziti...and both were excellent. Another in our group had a veal dish and the 4th had pasta with a cream sauce. They, too, pronounced their choices as fine. The Wine List was fairly extensive with a strong nod to California vintages. The 4 of us shared 3 glasses...although the details have become a bit hazy. Maybe the alcohol content was high or that tomato fog was thicker than I thought. But nobody complained. Our server was Claire from Ireland. Actually, she lived in Boston for 10 years before relocating to Orlando in late 2010 to be with her father. Claire was very personable and more like a fellow diner than server...though she served us very well. Prices seemed similar to the going rate for an Italian restaurant in a nice neighborhood. And just like Anatolia down the block, Cariera's was mostly filled with patrons for a midweek dinner. Either these places are giving away great food or it's a case of "location, location, location"....or both. Bottom Line: Similar to Giorgio's in Willow Glen (San Jose), but a bit more upscale Pros: Very good food at reasonable prices Cons: It's in Florida and we live in California ( where have I heard that before? ) Ratings: Overall: 4 Food Quality: 4 Food Quantity: 5 Menu: 5 Wine List: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Hustle and Bustle: 4

Service not good ! James the server was very abrupt & in a hurry, would come by and say are you ready to order we would say no & by the time I say but I have a question he was gone! Not accommodating, not real friendly & oh & don't touch my child without asking me! Food just ok! Chicken Marsala they use a cheap Marsala wine The fusilli ala vodka was very watery The kids chicken strips taste like mcdonalds & that was $7.95? Geez

This restaurant recently went under new management. I was so sad to see what they did to this once homey, warm and inviting restaurant. Their dining area looks like a nail spa now. They tried hard to make it look trendy and contemporary and gravely failed at keeping the inviting atmosphere that any Italian restaurant, of quality, mind you, should have. Very disappointed. The food was far from what it used to be. Do not know what happened but many of us sure hope management will do some thinking. Thank you.

I was really disappointed! I went to Cariera's after reading the great reviews but even though my ravioli was good, my husband ordered chicken marsala and it was not good!!! It comes in 2 separate plates: one comes the chicken marsala and the other plate comes a terrible pasta with tomato sauce! The tomato sauce was yummy and not from a can like most places, but I can never give more then 3 stars in this place, maybe even 2... The restaurant looks soooo cute from the outside, and inside is just average! I still like Carraba's or Macarroni Grill better! Sorry!

Horrible food. Horrible service. Horrible cleanliness. There was a larva nest with live flies in the cheese grater and the staff had nothing to say. The calzone was cold in the middle and the Caesar salad had hairs in it. They also have roaches in the kitchen walk way area its very gross.

The best "like home" Italian in town? You bet! Forget Olive Garden, when you're at Cariera's, you're family. As shown by the endless array of family photos lining the walls of the entire restaurant; and taken of actual customers no less! Whatever you order here, you can't go wrong. In the mood for pizza? Dynamite. Want the old Italian classic gnocchi? Find it here. Italian wedding soup? Mini-meatball-tastic. Not to mention their canolis, ooooh their canolis. Take the kiddies, let them built their own pizza, or just play with the dough. Their sauce isn't as sweet as Mom's, but a lot of people prefer that. I agree with Marie, the deli up front has some truly great stuff. Take home some imported cheese for grating, olives, or salami. The service is the only crap-shoot. I have been there countless times, but half the time I seem to get a server that's having a bad day, or just does not know how to converse with customers (you're in the wrong industry). But make no mistake, the food is what keeps you coming back.
