Fast and friendly service, large menu with fresh choices, nice change from fried food
We just moved here to Okeechobee and we are just in love with this place!!! Always AMAZING food and super friendly service!!! Loved everything about it! Small town feel, with fresh, delicious food! So happy we found it! We will for sure be "regulars!"
Such a great place to eat. The service is good, the sandwiches are AMAZING. My only complaint is that it closes sooooooo early. 2:45 on it's late days. And they also don't accept cards. But, it's still one if my favorite places to eat. Ever.

Nutmeg’s Cafe

Reviews:
This is a comfortable restaurant. I have eaten here twice and was pleased both times. I had a good Reuben last week and a good Cuban today. Also, the soups are good. Good split pea today. I will eat here again.
Every once in a while Yelp and I combine to form a perfect union. It doesn't always work this well. While driving across state highway 70 between Florida's gulf and Atlantic coasts i needed to stop for gas and lunch with the family. After I got gas I checked yelp for a local lunch stop. Selected Nutmeg's and so glad I did. A charming little, locally-owned, sandwich shop and bakery with some interesting soups, salads, paninis and sandwiches. My kids are finicky eaters and they even enjoyed their selections. My SO and I were thoroughly satisfied as well. A really nice and casual lunch in an eclectically decorated little joint right off the main highway. A truly enjoyable lunch. Just what we were looking for. You order at a counter and they bring the food to your table. Friendly service in a very clean environment. Thank you Meg for a very enjoyable experience. Open late morning through early evening, about 7:00 pm. Not really a dinner stop but an absolutely perfect lunch stop. We will be back to explore the other menu options.
If you're in Okeechobee and want to have experience a simple but flavorful lunch, head over to Nutmeg's Cafe! I stopped in after having read the rave reviews about the sandwiches and the cupcakes! I decided to try out the Cuban Club and I was not disappointed. This sandwich is a twist on the Cuban classic and it's made with the usual ingredients but it's served on white bread and made into a club sandwich. The pork which is the star of a Cuban was moist and had good flavor. They have many sides to choose from and I chose the potato salad which was creamy and fresh. The cupcakes are excellent! The owner was busy when I came in preparing the dough for the cupcakes, it seems they sell a lot of cupcakes here. The frosting was rich but not overly sweet which always hits the spot. The actual cake was moist and lived up to its reputation. The frosting on some of the cupcakes were shaped to look like flowers which is a nice touch. The interior of Nutmeg's is quite spacious, you can easily fit 50 people in comfortably. The decor is a bit unusual but it looks homey with all the non matching tables and chairs. I'm all for unique places that serve up homecooked meals from the heart. Unfortunately I don't make it to Okeechobee much but next time I'm there, I'm heading to Nutmeg's!

Serenity Coffee Shop

Okeechobee, 34972
Reviews:
Wonderful little hometown coffee shop - the owners are clearly part of the community. If you go in twice, chances are they'll remember you and the way you like your regular order. Take a moment to ask for a recommendation - they listen to what you like and help you expand your coffee horizons. Check out the 'homegrown' art on the walls, sit and read - Serenity is more than just the coffee.
This place is phenomenal. Best coffee in town hands down. Any desert flavor you can imagine they will flavor the coffee to. I like the café' latte with hazelnut and caramel and my daughter likes the Blended Trinity mocha. I just wish they were open earlier so I can get a cup before I leave town for work. I'm told if the light is on to come on in. We'll see about that soon enough..
Great coffee! They get only FRESH coffee! The owners told me they get their coffee within 1 week of roasting AND they buy it every week. I needed something with "a kick" - I got "The Drink" and...it kicked! It tasted great and it was prepared PERFECT (I usually have to doctor it up a bit). I liked the atmosphere and spoke to the staff and found out that they make gift baskets, I intend on buying at least 1 for Christmas. My only complaint is their hours are limited, I would like to frequent the place more in the evening.

Jersey Mike’s Subs

Okeechobee, 34972
Reviews:
Great food. Great service. Great prices. That pretty much says it all. I use their catering services on close to a monthly basis. They always have the food ready when I arrive and the price is always fair. When you go, be sure to have a white macadamia nut cookie. Unbeatable.
I've stopped in a few times to get some subs, the food is good , the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The service is usually good but once I got a teenage girl for service and she obviously didn't wanna be there, no people skills borderline rude but kids are like that sometimes. Management is responsible for such behavior.
Fantastic Jersey Mike's! Had a sandwich there yesterday but had to come back and write a review. The place is clean as a whistle, and the staff are all very friendly. I got my sandwich in great time even in the heat of them being very busy! Was greeted as I walked in the door and treated very kindly the whole time. The sandwich was muy bueno as well!! I'll be back to this J-Mike's very soon.

My favorite date night spot! Great steak!! The home fries are addictive! I'm completely obsessed!
Very good steak. I had the filet and it was perfect.

Tin Fish

301 N Parrot Ave
Okeechobee, 34972
Reviews:
Driving back from the East Coast of Florida to the Gulf Coast, we weren't expecting much passing through the small town of Okeechobee. Pulled up Yelp and this was one of the suggestions with good reviews. My whole family was impressed, and they can sometimes be hard to please. Two of us had the Mixed Fish Combo, one Mahi Sandwich, one children's Popcorn Shrimp, and an order of sweet potato fries. Everything was very delicious and the portions were a fair amount. In particular, the grilled salmon was done very well. It's easy to mess up salmon on the grill, but that was not the case with both our orders. The sweet potato fries were almost like a dessert as they were sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. It's worth getting an order for the table. Our waiter (can't remember his name right now, but it started with a P I think) was very friendly and outgoing. Apparently there are a few Tin Fish locations around the US, we had no idea. Though we probably won't be back to Okeechobee to eat at Tin Fish again, we'd be happy to try it elsewhere.
Took my family here for a quick lunch. We were in the area and knew my wife wanted seafood. Walking in you quickly notice how new and nice everything is. It's a good look for okeechobee. Different but familiar. I went with the salmon sandwich but can't really remember what everyone else got. I will say my bro had a minor complaint about his catfish sandwich. To which the waiter said he'd get him another one and when my bro said not to worry about it. The waiter replied "nah that's not the way you're supposed to eat here". That really got my attention and made me glad we had eaten there. We got another sandwich made for us to take home. The service was on point and that really matters these days. They were attentive and pleasant. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. The conch fritters were also good and everyone was happy with their meal. We will definitely return.
Food was ok. Service not the best but not the worst. Might come back when in town next time but there are other better choices in Okeechobee.

Dunkin Donuts coffee is always good but I may never have had better coffee at a DD's than I have today. The girl working the register was very friendly and got me my coffee quickly. An added bonus is that it's open 24 hours a day every day. Has okay seating; enough for a few people, but outside seating is a bonus. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

The Landing Strip Café

Okeechobee, 34972
Reviews:
Stopped by yesterday to have a late lunch. I ordered the blackened tilapia sandwich and a side of hush puppies. Overall the food wasn't too bad. Its located near a small airport in Okeechobee where you can see people fly their own planes. The price that I paid for the food was fairly cheap. So please don't believe the $$ on Yelp for this business.
It's always fun to fly into an airport and be able to enjoy a good burger without leaving the grounds. Indoor and outdoor seating gives lots of options -- sit outside if the weather is pleasant. The drinks provided were in HUGE glasses. Very generous. Burgers were not overly unique but very tasty. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will definitely return to try more. Warning -- restaurant closes at 3 pm Upside - breakfast is served until closing
This is a wonderful place to get brunch. It's a quiet little cafe along the Okeechobee airport landing strip. The view is great. There's indoor and ourdoor seating. You can see small planes land and take off. The service is fast. I ordered my brunch and not even 10 minutes later, the waitress comes back with my order. The waitress was very pleasant too. The portion sizes are big. We had to take leftovers home. Great value for what you pay for. I will definitely come back here.

My daughter took me there for a Mother's day lunch. Hostess was extremely pleasant. Our server Brittany was super friendly, very informative & unbelievably attentive. We ordered several entrees, all delicious & good size portions, not one complaint. Brittany made our lunch extra nice by being such a pro. Definitely plan to go back & for sure will ask for Brittany. Thank you V for taking me to such a lovely pace!!!
Two hours to dine in a casual restaurant. Granted it was Halloween, but still. Waiters were very good in offering apologies for the kitchen backup food was slow to come out and there really not that busy when we got there. The rush came much later. You have to blame this one on the manager as he did not staff his kitchen with the number of cooks needed for a Friday night. Food was fine so I have nothing to complain about. Staff were good in keeping our drinks filled up and the offering of apologies throughout the night. Doubt I will ever go back on a busy Friday night again.
Worse restaurant in town, the only reason it makes money is because its right next to a popular hotel

Lightsey’s Restaurant

10435 Hwy 78 W
Okeechobee, 34974
Reviews:
I have visited Lightsey's on two occasions. During my first visit the waitress recommended the whole catfish. The fish, as the name implies, is cooked whole with bones and fins. This fish was delicious, full of juicy meat and covered with crispy breading made with a mixture of spices. This is a dish where you have to do some work and get your hands dirty removing the bones from the meat but it is worth it. I prefer this style of catfish to basic catfish strips. My most recent visit was a little disappointing. I decided to be a little more adventurous and tried the Cooter (a type of soft shell turtle) and Gator. The dishes were ok but not very memorable. The Cooter had a nice beef like texture and light flavor. The breading was nice and flakey but the meat was a little tough to chew. The Gator had a nice flakey breading but the meat was mild on flavor and a little on the chewy side. The prices were also on the high side. For lunch portions the Catfish was $13, the Cooter was $8 for about 5 oz, and the Gator was $15. Overall, Lightsey's is one of the better restaurants in Okeechobee and is worth a visit if you like seafood. However, I recommend sticking with the catfish.
Monday afternoon and very slow was Norma to return with our drinks. But the food shined as our Crab cake/fried green tomato app was great with 2 very large cakes and 2 slices of tomato on a sweet sauce. Fried catfish with fry's, hush puppies, slaw and an extra side of collards were loved by my southern food loving wife. She said all was outstanding! Looking for something a little different I had the BLT salad. It was a chopped salad with shrimp & bacon mixed in and was outstanding. Large portions of everything and we brought plenty home. Location is scenic and out in the middle of nowhere, nice ride on the Harley there.
Planned on going to the Okeechobee flea market today and ended up here for lunch. I had read the positive and negative reviews but my hubby is a big fan of fried oysters so thought we'd give it a whirl. Yes, some things service wise were odd. My husband waited in a short line for a table but was told they were short staffed in the kitchen and we'd probably have a 15 minute wait. Even though they had tables available and my husband pointed out a booth he'd like to have, he was told by the manager that he'd rather have him wait. Ok??? So I found him sitting on a bar stool. Just weird considering that after we waited, and then reminded the waitress who started seating people that we had been on the list of people waiting, we sat in that booth anyway. Yeah. So why the 4 stars?? From that point on, service was stellar and the food was great. So an inauspicious start ended up being a terrific visit and yes, we would definitely return when in the area. Our waiter couldn't have been better. Husband ordered the fried oysters (he enjoyed them very much but not the best he's ever had and considered it a small portion) and I had the blackened fish wrap. With some help from our waiter, I chose Tile fish and the wrap was pretty darn awesome. Packed full of fish that was not overly done with the blackening spice (and doesn't that happen way too often??!!) and the sauce on it was just wonderful...and it had grilled corn which added a nice twist. Both meals came with fries which were hand cut and there was a sauce on the table that went great with them. So all in all a great visit with an odd start.
