Sonny's rocks. Just corporate enough to have consistent standards from location to location. Good BBQ at a fair price. With the rebranding and remodeling of the stores it's gotten better and they finally have a better beer selection.

Had the award winning ribs that were limited time only. They were really good. The restaurant is built nice. The food was decent. Wings were good too with the special sauce. Just a basic BBQ chain restaurant that you can get some great southern style cooking.

I've been to nearly every famous BBQ joint in the South over the last decade and other than eating a sandwich from Sonny's at a football game once, this was my first Sonny's experience. A friend and I had visited Silver Springs State Park and several employees mentioned this was much better than Fat Boys. Knowing we were in for a chain BBQ experience we gave it a try. It was exactly what I expected. This is average, if not slightly below average BBQ. Their sauces are pretty good, however and the service was very good. The manager on duty made sure everyone was enjoying their experience. Personally, on the other hand, I'd give the BBQ a 2.5 (and so did the other three in our group. After eating at On Q in Dade City the night prior, this is definitely a few notches below. We started with the salad bar, which has fresh spinach and greens, but unfortunately is loaded with what tasted like dressing purchased in massive bulk. The locals, however, didn't seem to mind, but for a guest looking for quality you might be disappointed. The meats we ordered we ok. They were good, fair, not great. The sausage they are promoting right now is average, at best. Meanwhile, my smoked turkey was pretty good. It wasn't dry at all. The also brought me what I believe might have been sliced pork (I ordered pulled). It was fatty and didn't look good so I didn't eat it. On the other hand, my friend's pulled pork wasn't bad. For average BBQ and a place to make a quick stop and get back on the road, this isn't bad. But, don't make it a destination, or you'll be disappointed, even in Ocala.

I liked the ribs and the baked beans were also very good but the service was not good and the chicken was cold. I will not be back even know the ribs were good they need to retrain the staff they do not pay attention to the table and guests needs but all act like they are working so hard I am unsure who manages this place but they need to put in some cameras and watch what goes on and how the guests have a hard time getting good service. I am not saying all the people there are bad I am saying some retraining and paying attention to detail would be helpful. I love BBQ but my wife and kids said never again because of the service or lack of good friendly service.

I have never had a bad meal at Sonny's and for Ocala that is saying something. Consistency is very important to me. While Sonny's is not the best barbeque I've ever had (that would be a little joint in Texas), it is the best I've had in Ocala and I've eaten here probably every other week for the last 8 years so i believe i am qualified to report on it. There is not really any ambiance to this location, it's kind of "cowboy tacky" but I don't expect much from a barbeque place. The booths are no frills and the decor is kind of dated but the service is excellent and they will present you with a gallon of the best iced tea almost immediately. The food is delicious and I've had everything on the menu. My favorite is the chicken and turkey and ribs. I'm not a fan of fattier meats like brisket and pulled pork so I pass on those. Everything else is spot on with the green beans being my favorite ever. Do yourself a favor, order something with bacon and crumble it up on them - wow, is that tasty! The baked beans are addictive. The cornbread is ok, sometimes it can be a little underdone but at least it is never dry. They have great crinkle cut fries which are hard to find in places nowadays - Friendly's used to be the only place that had them but good luck finding a Friendly's anywhere. They make good baked sweet potatoes and even though their salad bar is pedestrian I like it. Don't expect much from it but the veggies are fresh and a couple of the salads look homemade (though sadly not the macaroni and potato salads). The corn on the cob is usually overcooked but i prefer it that way. The sauces are excellent, especially the sweet sauce but I enjoy all of them. The meats can vary. The ribs are consistently good and so is the chicken. The turkey is sometimes a bit dry but always flavorful. This location is always busy so you may have a wait but it moves pretty quickly. The servers are always nice and friendly. As other reviewers have said it's chain barbeque so its not earth-shattering but you know what, i TRUST Sonny's. I know I will have a good meal here and be happy and have not spent a fortune. They have standards which I appreciate. i like the Sonny's BBQ way of doing things. I am a fan for life.

Very typical chain bbq. Over priced sub par meals. The ribs are not impressive and the chicken is always dry. The service is good and the salad bar is nothing to be proud of. If you want real bbq go to smoking swamp!

Delicious pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw. We stopped here for lunch after visiting Silver Springs state park. The sodas are served in an excessively large cup, I think it is large enough to hold a whole bottle of soda. The service was friendly and quick.

My father and I went for an early lunch around 11:45 on Friday and our waitress couldn't handle the crowd or us , she kept sending another waitress to bring drinks food etc. she never checked on us I always had to flag another waitress to get any kind of service , I understand if someone is new etc. , but have someone work with her , extra training something I was very disappointed in the service , the food was good however they took some things off the salad bar, and they now take your bill up for you , good luck on that !

This is honestly my first time having BBQ in the South. We were passing by to go swimming with manatee the next day so we decided to come here for dinner. When we walked in, we were greeted by 2 super friendly staff. I don't remember exactly what we got but I just remember getting a pulled pork sandwich, a giant platter of food with 3 or 4 different kind of meat, tons of broccoli (eating out during vacation makes us crave veggies) and of course CORNBREAD. That cornbread is the best cornbread I've ever had. I could eat that cornbread forever! Ha. Their pulled pork was delicious. Along with a BBQ sauce our waiter recommended. Man, next trip to Florida I am definitely going to find a Sonny's to eat at!

This is good stop for a quick barbecue fix. The service was good I was seated and the waitress came by quickly. I ordered the baby back ribs with baked beans. The ribs were very tender and the sauces are pretty good.

My wife and I have been to several Sonny's over the years and have always found them to be consistently good. When we stop in my wife likes the chicken wings and it might sound funny but I really like the barbecue beans. Have never found another place where the beans were as good. Ribs chicken they're good also. So two thumbs up from my wife and I.

Salad bar is still looking very good. The last 2 times I have eaten at Sonny's my chicken was cold in the center. Cooked but not reheated enough. Kind of took the wind out of the sail, so to speak. Really gone down hill in the past 5 years, in my opinion. Even the servers don't seem as friendly. Luckily I can get a good salad at many other places. Worse part is the beer was warm, and that was the deal breaker. Could have choked down the cold chicken with cold beer. Fries were good!

  • Karl Z.

Pretty good, considering it is chain BBQ. It wasn't anything special, but solid. The pulled pork I had was moist and flavorful. The BBQ beans were fine and the cole slaw seemed fresh, but was a bit bland (it was delicious on the sandwich). It is a good value, the staff was nice and friendly, but I'm not exactly sure why it took 25 minutes to get two sandwiches though. I wouldn't mind coming back next time I'm in town.

On the other side of being a sometimevegetarian, I fall off the wagon and go to get some Barbecue. It's hard not to in the south, Sonny's is usually okay but this particular location is great. Great Service and the meat is moist and flavorful. Expect to leave satisfied and wanting of a nap. Don't expect to leave feeling healthier.

We stopped by here for a late lunch the other day after visiting Silver Springs Natures Theme Park. We saw this on our way to the Theme Park. I'm always on the look out for great bbq. Having not researched or anything, we decided to eat here for lunch. I was not disappointed at all. If anything, I was so glad that we had lunch here. The moment I step inside this restaurant, the waitress offered to bring me a drink. I was so relieved since it was scorching hot outside. After staying away from coke for awhile, I decided to order myself a nice cold coke. That felt so good afterwards. After sitting down and checking out the menu, I decided to order the Super Combo, which consisted of "original" BBQ Pork, slow-smoked Beef, tender BBQ Chicken, and Sweet & Smokey Ribs all for $13.99. This was enough to feed 2 people. That came with 2 sides and either garlic bread/ homemade cornbread. We ordered crinkle cut french fries, corn on the cob, orginal recipe bbq beans, and garlic bread. On top of that, my bf ordered Sizzlin' Sweet Chicken Wings with Ranch Sauce. For the chicken wings and other meat, you have the option of using Sweet, Sizzlin Sweet, Smokin, or Mild BBQ sauce. I like the Sizzlin Sweet and Sweet BBQ Sauce. The chicken wings were awesome! The best I've had. The original recipe bbq beans were great as well! The BBQ Chicken and Ribs were good especially with the extra BBQ sauce. Everything else was pretty good, nicely cooked and juicy not dry like some other BBQ joints. You can really taste the smokey flavor in the meat. I will definitely go here again if I'm in the area. Our waitress was great. She took care of everything and was very nice.

My friends and I stopped at Sonny's after abandoning a busier restaurant up the street. We were looking for a place with solid food and that had ample room for 5, including a toddler. Sonny's is your standard sit down family bbq restaurant. The inside was well-lit and the serving staff was friendly and competent. Food was okay and reasonably priced. I had the lunch order of ribs and sides of broccoli and beans. The beans were great, broccoli was fine, and ribs were okay, but a little dry. The salad bar was decent, but really hard to reach! The glass top that hangs over it makes it challenging to access. The salad bar contents were all right, but nothing exotic. There weren't a lot of particularly healthy or interesting dishes, but none were really expected. 3 stars - pretty good restaurant for what it was.

A must stop and eat place. At the very least get the sweet tea to-go. The "bar-b-q" is great, the corn nuggets are just as amazing and did I mention the amazing southern sweet tea?

If you like "Commercial" BarBQ then its all right but nothing stupendous. Friendly service, clean but the food is just OK nothing special.
