I just love Sonny's and have been to their restaurants all over the South. The food is reliably good, and I don't recall ever having a bad Sonny's experience. I've had better local BBQ (check out Pearl's in Micanopy or Newberry's Backyard) but you can go anywhere and know what to expect.

Tough brisket, too few French fries, broccoli unimpressive. This place was great in years past. Huge disappointment.

The total renovation and the added bar REALLY makes this a nice eating establishment for BBQ! Cool and refreshing inside so you can relax and enjoy your meal. Nice place and great food makes this a good place to take your family!

They remodeled the store replaced most of the wait staff with unqualified young pretty people. The service sucks, the food is overpriced, the ribs are hit and miss, no more wet naps on the table you have to beg for them now. They cut back and only bring one piece of garlic bread. There's lots more choices in Ocala now. It's a shame this used to be a nice place.

I'm starting this review with the reason for me coming here was because I had a $8 voucher. So Sonny's is really good about supporting local causes and this one was connected to youth sports, I think As for the food... Brisket-way over cooked. Prob to high a temp. Did not have any real bark on it and was very dry. Pulled Pork-pretty damn good. Flavorful but greasy. Very moist. My favorite thing today Sliced pork-Too thinly sliced and very bland. Fatty as well Smoked Chicken-As good as you can get in a chain. The rub on the chicken should be used more in other items. Good flavor. Cornbread-muffin style and is very good. Sweet moist with the top having a good crunch Overall food rating C- Ambiance...Such a great upgrade. Love the sit up bar. Bartenders waiting on you and a 40in flatscreen to watch sports. This alone would bring me back. Sabrina is awesome. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Great friendly service from here. I would bring the wife back here and grab a beer and snack on some of that pulled pork. Maybe some wings. Actually if I came back, I would order some fries well done, have them put the pulled pork on top, add coleslaw and drench all of that with the sweet BBQ sauce. Wash it down with a beer. They actually have a large selection of bottled beers. Strike that, I'll be back to do what I just said. Thanks Sabrina for saving Sonny's. For now. Wish they would just figure out the correct temp and rub to get a brisket cooked the right way. Oh well, off to the barber. See ya'll next time.

"Black seems to be the primary color" says my 14 year old son. I noticed it too. I'm lukewarm on the ambiance of the new decor. Seems a little depressing. The front of the restaurant looks great with the wood with the black highlights but the inside seems more like a morgue. The waitress was very friendly although she took my drink when it was empty and didn't bring back a straw. But that's not enough to say it was a bad experience. There is definitely something different about the way the food was prepared since the renovation. Something is definitely different.

The best in chain. It is a go-to for lunch. Always fast and good service. We have never been disappointed by the food either. Mainly do take out at this location. Will continue to order our lunches here.

Long time no eat....... so I decided to stop in for lunch. they still offered their "Big Deal" meal which will fill most people up. I've never understood the attraction to their "Award Winning Beans" what award and who gave it to them because I've been hearing that phrase for at least 15 years. Our waitress handled our large party with ease and the food was just as I remembered it.

This was a dinner pitstop for my friend and I whilst cruising on up to Atlanta from Florida. We didn't know this at first, but Sonny's is a chain and the locals don't really hype it up as THE BBQ joint to go to. Service was nice - our waitress was friendly. We definitely didn't seem to fit in with the baseball hat, flannel wearing, family-going crowd. The sweet tea is, as it would always be, LOADED with sugar, and as most chains will go, the food was just OK. I ordered the catfish dinner - the fish was good and came with a cornbread that was really more like corn poundcake. Salad bar was OK, with typical salad stuffs, bean salads, and weird jellos. I really loved the several options of BBQ on every table, especially the sweet BBQ. I wanted to dip everything into it. Though the sauce lives up to what a sauce should, I doubt I'd come here again.

Sonny's is Sonny's. Good value for senior lunch. Ribs are good and usually they have some kind of 9.99 to 12.99 special.

I am from CA and have eaten Bar-B-Q all over the southwest. I ordered the 3 Way Pork dinner with slaw, sweet potato and corn bread. My shredded pork and sliced pork were average with the special sweet sauce. However, my ribs were were both tough and dry. The sweet potato and slaw were both tasty. Of special note was an excellent textured and moist piece of cornbread. Our server was exceptionally friendly and as I was leaving, I caught her attention in the kitchen and asked her if she would take a photograph of my guest and I outside the front door. She was certainly rewarded for her extra effort. We left to head down to Tampa as she wished us Happy Holidays. (I still like Merry Christmas better)

Keep them on their toes. They were a little slow and it was pretty empty. The one in SS blvd is better. Still; it is Sonny's. None better.

My mother and I went here on a Sunday, It was a terrible experience. The restaurant was super hot and uncomfortable. I asked if they would turn on the fan and it was like pulling teeth. The music was really loud. They have even taken the cole slaw off the salad bar. The one reason I enjoy going there. I will not go back unless they make some serious changes, which I do not see happening.

I moved away from Ocala almost 10 years ago and I still order their BBQ sauce online. Sonny's is real southern food to me and always will be. You have to look far and wide to find fried okra anywhere and most people North of the Mason-Dixon line have never even heard of such a thing. From the gallons of sweet tea to the delicious BBQ sauce, this place is awesome. Yes, it is a chain, but it started out in Florida and really hasn't moved its operation outside of southern Georgia, so I don't really consider it inauthentic as another reviewer mentioned.

Came here while I was on a business trip and down an avenue just full of big chain restaurants, Sonny's was the closest to a non-chain joint. They have a few Sonny's around, but still, it's not a place where the food all comes from pre-made mixes. For the price and quick service, this place is great. I had the babyback ribs and they were delicious. I had the regular ribs another time and they were "not" as tender as I'd wished for, but still pretty good. Forgo all the other fast food places or the chain restaurants and have a barbeque with the great intent of being authentic. It's a good bet you'll agree.

Basic southern BBQ chain operation. Been to this location twice. The pulled pork and beef brisket are average, and are improved slightly with the very good "sizzlin'-sweet" sauce. Avoid the peach cobbler - mine wasn't cooked all the way and had chunks of powder dough mix. Nothing to write home about. It gets a 2.5, but I have to round down. Why I came here twice is another story entirely.

I am a Canadian visiting Florida and have been told that Sonny's is the place to go for good BBQ ... and lots of it. Sonny's did not disappoint. Pleasant service, huge helpings and tasty pork. The pulled chicken was a bit too dry but the sides (beans, sweet potato) were delicious. Overall, I've had better but the price / value cannot be beat.
