Very authentic Greek food! I spent my summers on the island of Rhodes and these folks are from that island. The taste is the same! Great place, great food! The souvlaki, gyros, and pastitsio are my favorites. The baklava is out if this world. We had some friends over for dinner and they brought a salad from Lakis that was really good as well. Lots of olives, feta, and small pieces of ham. Delicious

My Big Fat Greek Wedding was on TV the other night and it really put me in the mood for some Greek food. Plus, the sushi place we had planned to go to ended up being closed for lunch. Walking into this place on a Sunday afternoon, it literally felt like we were in the movie complete with full murals and Greek statues galore. We were greeted by an especially gregarious wait staff. This place was hoppin' with the after church crowd still talking about the day's sermon. For a Greek restaurant that served pretty authentic food, I was surprised and disappointed that the gyro meat wasn't freshly cut from a broiler spit. It tasted like any other gyro at a nameless diner. I expected better from a Greek place. The homemade tzatziki was delicious and the Greek Village appetizer had a delicious assortment of spanikopita, dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), and tiropita. It was a super yummy. Unfortunately, the Greek salad was pretty bland. The whole salad looked like someone just threw all the ingredients together into a paper shredder and tossed crumbled feta on top. And the worse part, this salad for 3 only came with 2 olives! What the?

Quite possible the best gyro I've ever had; but first: Tzatziki Appetizer: Tzatziki served with slices of griddled pita; crispy on the outside and "pillowy" on the inside. The dip itself was excellent, though if I had to nitpick, I'd say the garlic was a little assertive. Gryo: The real beauty of this lay in its simplicity! Griddled (not char-grilled) pita, gyro meat, that marvelous tzatziki, slivered sweet onions, fresh tomatoes and crisp lettuce. That's it! I cannot believe how a humble gyro could be so *elevated*! The subs are decent also; but that gyro! Man!

I don't understand the negative reviews here. I've been going to Lakis since I was a young girl in their original location in Ocala. The food is always fresh tasty and a great value. Their chicken park is out of this world, the pizza is delicious and the Greek salad is always consistent. This is a family restaurant where they're all the food in their kitchen. We eat here at least once a month!!

Good Greek food when you can get it. At times slow with takeout. Sit down service ok bit seems rushed. Overall a good Greek exp.

This was the first and pretty sure the LAST time we go to Lakis. First, the food we (a party of 4) ordered took almost an hour to reach us after ordering. This was not a particularly busy night, there were only about 2 other tables besides us. Second, when we did receive our food, I found a 13 inch black hair in my food. The waitress took it back and had it recooked which was fine, but when I was sitting there waiting for my food 3 roaches ran across the table. I let the waitress know and she couldn't have cared less. When my food got back to me I refused it and they refused to take it off of the bill. Strike one, a hair. Strike two, three, four and five... ROACHES. Never again

This place is a hidden treasure. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, it was such a pleasure. Nate, our server, was very informative and made excellent suggestions. We met the owner through her son in law, what a sweet person. The food was delicious. The Souvlaki melted in your mouth. We highly recommend Lakis and will definitely be going back.

No, go to their Brother in laws location, the restaurant called TAKIS, in the Villages.......The food is sooooooooo much BETTER! The salad here was BLAND, and they do not MAKE their own homemade FETA (which is just to die for) like they do at this other restaurant, Takis. The chopped ham tasted different, and OMG the dressing was NOTHING compared tot he Takis place. DO NOT waste your money here, pick up and drive the 18 miles south to the Villages. ALTHO....theur gyro might be good, i was really wishing i had gotten that, because the salad, bread and the entrees we got were not enjoyable! We got 2 sampler platters (each with different things) and we soooooo did not enjoy hardly ANYTHING on it,t he meats were DRY and chewy, and the Moussaka and Pastis were dried out and blecchhh also. Stuffed grape leaves were the worst ive ever eaten (and i am a Greek food lover!) The ppl were fairly nice, altho we were regaled of a story by the waitress telling us she was leaving the restaurant in 2 weeks (and had to sit and hear them interview some kid who came off the street. mind you, the restaurant was empty except one other table. We just had the misfortune of being seated by the front of house, and that where they talked to the guy. Not a good practice!

Food was OK, nothing great. If you are in Ocala looking for Greek food this will do. If you are looking for great Greek food, then pass on this one. Service was poor.

For many years, from at least the mid-80s (well, thats when *I* first went there) to sometime in the mid-90s, Laki's was a great little restaurant sitting near an aging strip mall at the corner of Lake Weir Ave and 17th St. The strip mall, along with Laki's were torn down and a large Walgreen's sits in its place. That was about 10 years ago. I thought I had lost Laki's forever. I was crushed, that was one of my favorite restaurants, and I had many memories of going there with my family for the excellent food. One day a few years later I was talking to an old friend and she mentioned Laki's had moved to Colors Plaza. I had to make a trip to Ocala. Yeah I still have family and friends there, but DAMN all that and Laki's too?! Laki's has the BEST Greek Salad on this planet. Period. Who knew Ocala could house such a gem? And Laki's isn't just about Greek food, they also do Italian food. Their Stromboli is EXCELLENT. The best I've had. You won't be disappointed. :)

Best Pizza in town hands down. Been going to Lakis for over 30 years. The Greek salads are the best I have ever eaten. You won't be sorry, give it a try.

I was so disappointed in the food. The Tzatziki was bland, which is something I can deal with. But the Original Gyro meat was processed, salty, the shape of bacon and it was paper thin. Because of the thinness it was over cooked and rubbery. Sigh. The wall murals were a nice touch and the front of house as well as the restroom was clean. Except that there was no soap in the restroom. This makes me wonder how the servers clean their hands. Speaking of servers, in the afternoon there was only one on staff. She took orders, ran the food, handled annoying customers politely, sat customers and took take out orders. Way too much for 1 person to handle as the service was a bit slow. She couldn't be faulted though. She could only do so much and she was good at it. Current health inspection: 0-high priority, 4-intermediate & 6-basic violations.

This place is not fancy but I have been going there for almost 30 years and it has always been good. The Greek Salad is my favorite salad of all time

Stopped by here for a late lunch on a Friday in late January 2015. Located in a strip mall, tucked away off a busy street just off I -75. Quaint decor with scenes of Greece painted on the wall. Service was prompt, but not overly friendly. I had the gyro with a side of Greek olives. It was delicious and a bargain at $5.99. We were craving Greek food and it hit the spot.

This is not the best Greek food you will have but for Ocala, you have to be happy with it. They have been in town forever practically and even though a few things are not homemade most of it is and the salads are delicious and fresh. The spanakopita is frozen but they bake it, so i am not sure what category that falls into. The pitas are not made in-house but they are made by a company in Miami i believe and are delicious. they might be frozen too, I do not know for sure. I still enjoy the food here but it is a bit pricey, though not as pricey as the other Greek place in town called Feta. This is my go-to Greek restaurant and I've been dining here for eight years. The service is not the best by a long-shot. At one point one server I had there was so annoying I stopped going in and just got take-away. I don't like servers who tell all their problems. A few of the others i have seen sitting at the back booths talking on their phones, texting and one-time one of the girls was grooming herself (I am totally serious) she was actually plucking her eyebrows while sitting at a booth with tables of customers around her. You cannot expect much from the service here and it is best to keep your head down and not look around too much! I do like the food rather well. I usually get the gyro platter and I love how they serve it, with plenty of meat, thin sliced onions, tzatziki sauce and fresh sliced tomatoes. Their hummus is also good as is the moussaka and pastitsio. They also serve Italian food but I've never had it. It's all Greek to me!.

Cozy little Greek/ Italian storefront restaurant! Clean and friendly. Wine menu too! (Small) Reasonable prices. I had the Lakis platter which was delicious, large and filling! My wife had the Village sampler, and we were both happy with our meal! One small down side, Greek salad is made with iceberg lettuce! But everything else was fine!

Disappointing. Gryo meat was so consistent in size I suspect that it came from a package rather that off a rotating griller. Sauce was bland. Pita bread on the appetizer was overcooked. Dipping sauce was heavily towards a plain yogurt without any flavor. However the patrons at the next table had huge salads which must be this locations claim to fame, but not sure I'd come back just for the that.

Not good at all. I went here with my girlfriend and some of her relatives on a trip to Florida. First course was a medium Greek salad, which consisted of iceberg lettuce, ham, and some kind of dubious feta cheese, all grated to the consistency of cole slaw and served with two kalamata olives, one pickled peperoncini and some oil-and-vinegar dressing. Second course was a pizza with the same strange grated feta cheese and frozen packaged spinach on top. The pizza was edible, but slightly worse in quality than the Amy's frozen spinach pizzas we get at Costco. In all: a big disappointment for anyone wanting either Greek or Italian food. They get one star for being friendly and not giving us food poisoning (I guess I can't give them zero stars, but this is just a notch above one of those "I wish I could give them zero stars" reviews). Avoid.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
