Absolutely delicious. Can't leave this place without trying the beans. Definitely coming back again!

I hate giving bad reviews, especially at a restaurant that so many other people seem to enjoy. But here it goes, The ribs were dry, the meat wasn't very smokey or good, the barbecue sauce did not have a good flavor and both the potato salad and coleslaw were inedible. Bear in mind this is strictly my opinion as many others seem to like this place. It's just not the awesome bbq joint that I am searching for.

Considering I'm a freak for BBQ this is literally one of the best ever !!! My second favorite besides my local bonos at home. I always get the pulled pork sandwich and sweet tea( amazing) The reason I give 4 stars is because since I'm a health freak I hate that the sauce has HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP and preservatives why would they ruin such yummy sauce. I've always wanted to take a bottle home with me but I can't knowing I'm feeding myself poison ! Other than that I highly recommend this place. I could eat the potato salad all day long

Jacks was recommended to me by a colleague and I'm so glad I decided to stop while in the area. Had the pulled pork and baked beans. The pork was great but the beans.. Oh sweet baby Jesus those were awesome! A must if you're in the area and I'll be back!

A great American diner is always a family owned, just like Jack's BBQ! This is an amazing place to come as enjoy a delicious BBQ plate for lunch. Although the sauce is made from "High fructose corn syrup" , it tastes really good. If they could use real sugar to the BBQ sauce, it would be a place I would bring my family ! Specially my future kids, they might turn to be BBQ fans like dad lol. If you are in Clermomt make sure you swing by and get your self a pulled pork sandwich ! I promise y'all are gonna love it!

Besides the lack of service, I do mean lack of...there was NONE!!! What was to like? Was it the bland sweet relish potato salad? no. The weird translucent coleslaw, NO. The super cheap dry Walmart roll, no, HELL no! The bland sauces, no. But damn, that BBQ pork was EPIC!! ON IT'S OWN!! Not only did I eat every bite without the freaky sauces, but I even bought a pound of it to take home!! My god that was good stuff!! If you go, do yourself a favor and skip everything, just get bbq, believe me, it's good! They honestly do make some amazing bbq! I'm pretty sure the rest came from Walmart.

My meal at Jack Benny's was delicious! I had the pulled pork sandwich with beans and coleslaw. They all were great. I visited again due to the bad food reviews, no problems with my order. The order taker was friendly. PS- I really liked the mustard based hot bbq sauce.

In my travels I have often eaten bbq. Some good some bad. But I to say Jack is th finest . They do it right. If you like bbq you will like Jacks

Turkey sandwich with ranch on top, beans, jacks sauce. Might be perfect bbq! Im in Texas right now and their best is a distant second to Jacks.

  • Adam E.

Pulled pork, ribs, and baked beans were great! However, the cole slaw and house sauce left much to be desired. Was not a fan of either. Anyways, a good meal and fast service.

Best beans ever! All the meat is excellent, my fav is the smoked turkey. Great for dining in or picking up for tailgating/parties/office lunches. Don't forget to pick up some of their sauce and rub to go!

Delicious, this place has been around for 60 years and I'm guessing that after that amount of time they have perfected family style BBQ. I found this place on Yelp! And read tons of reviews. We pulled up and had second thoughts about dining there. Thank goodness we did. I had the beef sandwich with barbecue baked beans, potato salad, and a Pepsi. That sandwich was so juicy. Once I bit into it, I actually think I heard angels sing. I added some of their homemade barbecue, it was a very sweet and flavorful taste. The barbecue baked beans were probably the best I've had. The same goes for the potato salad. The Pepsi was so good because by the time I arrived here I was dying of thirst. The staff there were great. Recommend!!!

I heard about this restaurant from a friend who grew up in Minneola. It's definitely a word-of-mouth gem. Minneola is close to Clermont and it is the best BBQ restaurant west of Orlando. I've eaten here quite a few times and always get the pulled pork sandwich with a side of beans and a sweet tea. If you like the University of Florida, then you are in for an extra special treat. If not, then I recommend you wear some neutral clothing.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 1 I couldn't even eat half of my Pulled Pork sandwich it was mostly burnt grizzle no cornbread very few generic sides you get a can of pop wow! Then again anything south of Gainesville isn't the real south it's the Yankee yuppie Cuban north the real south stops in Alabama where this place wouldn't last a day!

    (1)
  • Todd L.

Good barbeque at good prices. I love to stop here when I'm in Clermont. It's old school and done right.

  • Natalie C.

My husband & I love this place!! We eat there almost every day for lunch. They have the best ribs! You get a great meal for a fair price!

Ranks up there with some of the worse BBQ in Florida I have ever had. If it was in the Carolina's then this place is just sub-par. Ever bite is just filled with an overload of vinegar. You don't taste anything your eating. Just vinegar. The sides are just bland and taste frozen and packaged. How on earth this place has stayed open is beyond me.

If you are from the South Lake county area, you already know what a pedestal Jack's BBQ has been placed on. Everyone I know goes nuts over Jack's, and though I am not a huge BBQ fan, I also enjoy Jack's from time to time. During lunch hour, the place is packed. They offer combo platters with your choice of meat (pork, beef, turkey, or chicken), 2 sides (beans, macaroni salad, coleslaw, or potato salad), and a drink for $6.50-9.50 depending if you get regular or large size. The food is good and the Jack's sauce (vinegar based) is a local favorite; a lot of people buy a bottle to keep at their homes. P.S. The sweet tea here is freaking delicious. P.S.S. Go Gators (there is UF memorabilia all over the restaurant).

Good food for a great value! Fast service, clean location, and delicious BBQ. I can see why it is a local favorite.

My family and I tried this place in January this year and we all thought everything tasted and smelled delicious. Great value too - Plenty of food with the platters at less than $9 a plate with 2 sides. The place is very casual as you can tell from the pic. Cafeteria style tables and service. You place your order and then seat yourself. Drinks are from the fountain and are self-served. I wish they had a sweet BBQ Sauce option instead of just the 2 tangy and spicy sauces they have. We each had different meats (the chicken, the pork and the beef brisket).. no complaints. The meat was so tender and tasty. We tried the beans and potato salads for the sides and they were both great! The bits of smoky meat in the BBQ beans added an extra tasty touch. Didn't buy the coleslaw because it really didn't look very good to us. It didn't seem to have the creamy coleslaw dressing in it, just didn't look right. We've only been there once but plan to go back again!

  • Sarah N.

When I first experienced this place I liked it. I went again for the second time and I was disappointed. The brisket was chewy and the pork was kinda dry. Also the macaroni salad tasted bland. I do however like the bbq sauce. I will stick to 4 Rivers.

  • Michelle T.

Worst BBQ ever!! I got the chicken and rib plate with 2 sides.... Beans were ok coleslaw was frozen and disgusting. The chicken was moist but no flavor at all, put salt on it to try to eat it. The ribs were over cooked and there was not one ounce of smoke flavor at all. The were very chewy and worst tasting ribs I've ever had. The roll they gave me was stale. I read reviews and thought we would try.... Wasted $$ and left hungry cause I threw it in the garbage where it belonged!! I hate sonnys BBQ and would recommend that place over here!!!! Jacks is a place to avoid. Went to wawa to get a sandwich to get that nasty taste out of my mouth!!!!

  • Joan L.

Visited there on 1/22/15 for lunch. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich that was very dry and not tasty. I did not care for the coleslaw, it was chopped up very fine and was all vinegar. My husband ordered the ribs, they were terrible, very dry and obviously reheated. He took them back and they replaced them but they were not much better. We were very disappointed and will not go back. We would recommend Oakwood, we've had their ribs & pork sandwiches many times and they are always excellent, moist & delicious.

  • Jared V.

Really good stuff. I liked their pork, and their sauce was tangy and had a great amount of spice. It's nice to mix it up sometimes with sauces, and this has a vinegar based thinner sauce, which is not my favorite but again, great to mix it up from the normal tomato/sugar based stuff. I had pulled pork, it was moist and had a great flavor. The sauce went really well with the pork. I also had the baked beans, they were delicious and the potato salad was absolutely perfect. If you are looking for something tasty and affordable in the barbecue world that's different from that 4 Rivers crap, go to Jacks.

  • S P.

This is the real stuff. They actually have a BBQ pit. This is a must go place. I had the pull pork sandwich with a side of beans and it was awesome. The staff was friendly and helpful in my selection. I will be back.

  • Debbie T.

This was the worst BBQ we have been to. We both had the ribs they were so dry & the sauce tasted like mustard. We didn't even finish them the cole slaw & beans were also tossed. We left hungry & won't be back! I would not give this any stars

    (5)
  • Jorge B.

This BBQ place is legit, been there several times,Ribs and Brisket are delicious, smoky and super tender. The sides are Good but not great. I read some reviews giving this place a single star, and I htink those folks either don't know what good BBQ is or they're tourists or both.

  • Bailey H.

The ONLY reason this place gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because the owner is a Gator fan... and I, a diehard Seminole! BEST BBQ EVER, HANDS DOWN. I buy Jack's Hot Sauce and pack it to bring back to San Diego with me, and give to friends, every year when I'm home for Christmas. That sauce is legendary. EAT HERE IMMEDIATELY. It will change your life.

  • Cheryl K.

Jack's BBQ was really great! Two kinds of sauce and you added it yourself. I had the chicken sandwich. Bread was fresh and the chicken was tender and not overcooked. Staff was polite and friendly. Loved the collection of baseball caps !

Rare Beef Sandwich. If the name alone doesn't do it for you, you may be in the wrong place. Tender, juicy, high-quality beef that just melts in your mouth. Delicious. Good cooking, good portions, and reasonable prices. It's way out of my way from where I currently work, but I still have a hard time driving by without stopping any time I am in the area.

Real BBQ! Not some northern grilled meat that's called bar-b-que. Slow cooked over hardwood. Wonderful tasty pulled pork, chicken, turkey and beef. My favorite is the pig salad. Pulled pork over a fresh lettuce salad with yummy dressing choices. Ribs are stupid good! Go Gators! This is the pre game favorite for the Gator Nation. Tom loves Jack's! :-)

It's a cool place, like the chicken dinner, not many options on the menu

  • B F.

Pretty good little BBQ spot. You have to be a fan of their BBQ sauce, which is some kind of mustard/vinegar concoction. Different than most BBQ joints but pretty good nevertheless and a nice change. The beans are really good. Love the feel of this old place - wood walls and ceilings and lots of Gator memorabilia all over. The pulled pork sandwich is delicious. Just wish they had an ice machine for those sweet tea refills!

I'm such a fan of small menus. I'm such a fan of BBQ. Therefore, I am also a huge fan of Jack's. My family are Gators and we have eaten at Jack's before UF football games for years. My boyfriend and I stopped there before the UF v. FSU game this past weekend and it was full of rival fans, enjoying delicious BBQ. True, the macaroni salad sucked but the baked beans are suburb and the pork is really good, not too smokey. Regarding the mustard base sauce - Excellent! I like all types of BBQ sauce and this is no exception. I would have liked a sweet sauce to mix in the savory yellow sauce but its more about tradition here than anything.

Stopped here on the way to south Florida from Tallahassee, great yelp find! Lost my appetite a little when I saw all the Gators memorabilia, but there was a local who was a Florida State fan sitting at one of the tables so I figured they were all right people. Two of us split the chicken and ribs dinner plate. Both were smoked to perfection and the meat fell right off the bones. The dry rub makes the meat good with or without the awesome bbq sauce. The coleslaw was a little flavorless but the potato salad is great and the beans are among the best bbq beans I've ever had. Had to go back and get another side of beans, but left very full and even more satisfied. Didn't try the desserts, but Twistee Treat is right down the road!

I love mom and pop shops! And Jack's is no exception! Before I came here, I was always curious about this spot from their billboard that advertised "If the chimney ain't smokin, we ain't open." It's funny, the whole place is decorated with GATORS gear...iNeed to take my UF Alumni boyfriend here! I think he will enjoy the environment and food most definitely! I have been here a few times while the chimney was smoking so I have tried all their meats and the delicious BBQ sauce. If you do not like vinegar-based BBQ sauces, Jack's sauce won't be to your liking! Also, their baked beans are my mom's favorite and I personally like their potato salad. And you have to get a glass of their sweet tea to go with your BBQ rib sandwich! OVerall, this is a delicious BBQ spot, locally owned with great customer service! And you can bring your own meats to get smoked there too! YeeHaw!

This is one of the best BBQ joints in all of Florida. I will make the hour and half drive from Tampa when the craving hits!

  • Truth T.

Their smoked turkey is the best meat. I had the smoked beef and chicken and didn't care for it. Too dry and overcooked. Maybe I just got a bad batch. The beans are the best ever. I do not recommend the cole slaw. It was all vinegar and no mayo. The macaroni salad was good but nothing special. I always get food to go and they pack it up very well. The staff is always friendly and the place is always clean. Parking is limited and they shove the "we love the gators" down your throat which is fine. Just a real good bbq place.

We happend upon this resturant one December while visiting the Citrus Tower (another story for another day)... it was packed to the rafters with Police Cars. The K-9 convention had come to town. With this many Police cars and it had to be 1) a raid or 2) a great place to eat. We went in and there were no guns drawn and all the officers were eating... almost in total silence. It was that good. Highly recommend. The family pack fed 3 of us for 3 days.

After reading some reviews some great and some not so great, my family and I still decided to try Jack's; being a local I told my husband lets support local businesses but I must say it was a major disappointment. I had read about the mustard base sauce and even though I like my BBQ sauce sweet I was still excited to go since I love BBQ. First the service, the waitress that got our order was a teenager who could not recommed anything and looked afraid to speak to the customers but I give her a pass since I remember what is like to be a teen on your first job. Then another waitress rang up my purchase, she barely acknowledge me and looked so miserable to be there but my rating was not based on customer service it is solely on the food. I ordered the turkey with baked beans and potato salad and my husband ordered rib sandwich with beans and potato salad. For dessert we ordered key Iime pie and chocolate cake. The turkey was absolutely flavor less, the sandwich size was so small that I've had bigger sandwiches from a kids menu. Disclosure( I only weigh 114lbs so it's not like I need a big sandwich just a regular size sandwich) :) My husband sandwich was as you can imagine difficult to eat whoever invented a rib sandwich is out of their minds is like biting into bones. The ribs tasted okay. The potato salad was also okay. The baked beans were the only thing worth eating but all portions are on the small side. As far as the dessert it was a piece of frozen chocolate cake that I could hardly cut through and that you purchase from a major retailer that starts with T. How do I know I've purchased plenty of cakes from them and while I like their cake alright I was not expecting that kind of cake from a place that has been opened for so many years. The key lime also tasted store bought and as such it also tasted alright. I would not recommend Jacks'. I never write reviews but I feel like if you are going to spend your hard earned money you should have nice service and good food not unreasonable in my opinion.

I have been bugging my husband for months to try this place and I was extremely disappointed for many reasons. First, their sides are limited to potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw, salad and baked beans. There are no fries, baked potato or any other starch for that matter. The pork was good, it lacked some seasoning and was not hot. Their sauce is disgusting. It is mustard based and does not taste like barbecue at all. The macaroni salad that we tasted was not tasteful at all. I would recommend Sonny's over this place any day of the week.

  • Austin T.

Simply put, there is not a better BBQ place then Jack's. I've been to many different places that serve BBQ and yet I always end up wishing I would have gone to Jack's instead. I always get a pulled pork sandwich and a side of beans. It's the perfect combination. Some people do complain because of the lack of sides, but after trying the delicious baked beans you'll never think about needing another side! I go at least once a week and I always look forward to my next trip. If you are a BBQ lover this is the only place to go. Nothing else compares!

I grew up going here. I remember the first time I ate at Jacks when I was 8 years old. It is Yumm Yumm good. The collection of hats inside always amused me. They also have a collection of stuff for the gators and it used to be for the local high school as well. The BBQ is wonderful. The cole slaw has gone weird over the years. Also just to warn the BBQ Beans are rich and wonderful. If you are prone to heartburn hit the pepcid bottle first. Those beans are super duper rich. I still love Jacks. Its the only pork my daughter eats. I find that kind of funny. She takes bottles of the sauce home to put on everything when she is back in Ga with her Dad so she does not miss them too much. Silly girl. 4 generations of my family have eaten at Jacks and loved it. Need I say more?

Delicious lunch place. I like that the meat is not smothered in sauce. It has a nice smokey flavor and you add as much sauce as you like.

Great BBQ and baked beans! Everything was fresh and tasty. We are from out of state, and we planned our entire trip using Yelp reviews for choosing our stops. This was a GREAT choice. We had the pork bbq sandwiches, baked beans, cole slaw, and potato salad. I had the hot sauce and my husband had the regular, both were flavorful and not too syrupy. Good portions, reasonable for lunch size, reasonable price. Fast service at the counter, you can sit and take your time if you want, or get right back on the road. I recommend this for a great lunch!

Jack's has been here for 50 years or more. It was purchased by the current owner probably about 10 years ago. It is as good as it has always been if not better. All of there meat is very good, but my favorite is the pork. I have had barbeque at many places and IMO this is the best, without a doubt. Their barbeque beans are exceptional, the barbeque sauce is a mustard based and very good. There ranch dressing is the best of any I have had anywhere. The ribs are excellent, the turkey and chicken are excellent as well.
