My daughters brought me for a early Fathers Day dinner. The food was awesome! Fast, hot @ freshly made. Our server was Rebecca. She was great. Frequently checked on us. The place was busy and didn't miss a beat!! Love this place!!

I have come here a few times and always get a great service, most of the servers here are young and energetic folks. They do make a great Margaritas and Pork ribs are my favorites.

Overrated local chain! I ordered the spare rib/baby back rib platter. I was told it was about a half rack of each. I opted for french fries and asked for a side of sauce other than the "sweet sauce" on the table since these are served dry...the menu talks all about the "pink ring of smoke" so I was pretty excited for some real BBQ...what I got was an average sized dinner plate of 5 smaller babyback ribs in 1 uncut rack with two very small spare ribs cut into singles ontop, a small paper ramekin of coleslaw and a baked potato. The babyback ribs were smothered in sauce while the two spare on top were bone dry. The waitress apologized (after taking almost 10 min to flag her down) and brought me back the plate with french fries instead of the baked potato, and two more spare ribs with a side shaker of sauce. Food was luke warm, the sauced babyback had the sauce thick from the cold temp and the meat tasted as if it was heated and reheated several times it was so dry. The spare ribs were just thrown on the grill (had char/fresh grill marks), but was barely luke warm. Ive had babyback ribs at real BBQ joints which were bigger than these spare ribs! All of this could be excused when the flavor exploded in your mouth and gave you a real BBQ, slow-smoked taste that you've been craving and smelling...but theres no flavor, and no excuses. Dull and dry meat totally lacking any pink rings, with dry and crispy and tough exterior meat. The sauce tastes highly of A-1 steak sauce (that orange peel zest flavor) and maybe a dash of liquid smoke but no authentic flavors, and with meat this dry does it really matter, the meal is already ruined! Sides of fried okra were greasy and over breaded with bitter okra and no sauce for sipping. Fried green tomatoes had 5 medium sized and over breaded slices with a generic ranch dressing (that I'm sure came out of a generic food service plastic container). Coleslaw is shredded cabbage and some pepper and mayo, no flavor at all here, less than a forkful was all it took for us to put our forks down. Shorty's is short of flavor, short on service and short on any chance of any of us ever returning or recommending eating there. The biggest shame isn't that we wasted our night on such a bad meal with so many great local options nearby, but instead that a poor pig gave it's life and flesh in sacrifice only to be disrespected with the way it was prepared...I feel like the chef here owes that pig an apology!

What to say....pretty darn good! Quick dinner visit on our way to Key West. My husband yelped this place, so we decided to give it a shot. Friendly greeting when we walked in. Was not crowded at all, and we were friendly seated right away. Greeted by our waitress. Our drinks came out quickly, and with 15 mins later so did our food....and our food was HOT. I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. Nice tender chicken, nicely flavored, and good sauce. It came with fries which were nice and crunchy. Not burnt and not soft. Cole slaw was tasty too. Could actually taste the coke slaw, it was not drenched in mayonnaise. I am stuffed. Huge portion sizes. A lot of food for little money. The service and food will definitely make sure when I am in the area and looking for BBQ, will not mind at all stopping here.

For someone who is not a big fan BBq, this place was not bad at all! Me and my wife ordered a special for two, which included barbecue ribs, chicken, Fries, Corn on the cob, coleslaw and sweet beans. It was really yummy and definitely would have fed 4 not 2 people.. it was so much food!! Very good for the price. The ambience was fun, with Southern decoration, and the restaurant smelled really good. The service was quick and very friendly, like I said, for someone who is not a fan of southern food, this place was probably one of the better ones I've been to. Would not mind coming back again

Did they BOIL the brisket?? GRAY meat with no (as in none) evidence of ever having seen a flame. Some of the best brisket I've ever had was from the Texas Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio. This place does its best to try to recreate that atmosphere. But what they really need to do is focus a little more on their technique. Hint: if your brisket is GRAY, you're doing it wrong!

Loved the place! The waitress was extremely welcoming, kind, and helpful in making us comfortable (I wish I could remember her name). She was patient with helping my family navigate through the many meat options in the menu. I got the Pork Steak which I will admit was a little burnt on the edges but chewy and tasty overall. They have this amazing orange spicy sauce which will go good with any meat as long as you love the sweet and spicy flavor. The side of garlic bread is soft, buttery, and doesn't leave the smelly garlic after breath. They give a generous amount of French fries as a side dish, a bit bland but I dipped them in ketchup to suffice. I'm not a fan of coleslaw but I was willing to give their's a try and I did not regret it. The waiting time to get the 4 platters for my group was only about 10-15 minutes. There's a lively atmosphere in the restaurant, very western homely feel. The waitress was always nearby ready to assist, which was extremely helpful when we were getting ready to go. There was a lot of leftover steak, ribs, fries, and mashed potatoes we wanted to take with us. The waitress knew exactly what we needed to easily pack all the food. She got the correct amount of boxes and even brought us extra sauce containers and tops so we can take some of the spicy sauce and to cap the container with the gravy. She also gave us 4 small cups of warm water that had drops of lime juice in it so we can dip our fingers in it to get rid of the sticky juices on ours hands from holding the bones. Very useful. My overall experience at Shorty's was amazing thanks to the awesome waitress and the great food.

I've been eating at Shorty's for over 20 years. (I used to frequent the US1 location years ago and then Bird Road and Doral locations more recently) Service and food are consistent across all locations but I'll review this one since I'm here now. Im obsessed with BBQ and any Miamian knows BBQ places in Miami are few and far apart. So I usually get my fix at Shorty's or Woody's. This year (2014) they introduced CORNBREAD and to say that I'm stoked is an understatement. Southern style cornbread and BBQ go hand-in-hand and should be sold at all BBQ joints! I've waited yearssss for Shorty's to offer it and I can honestly say it was worth the wait. It comes in a little basket with two Sunnyland whipped spreads and a fork and knife...yes you'll need the utensils. Its so warm and soft itll break apart on the first bite. Granted, this can become a little tedious to eat but I prefer this 100 times over a dried out corn brick. They've go 2 types of sauce; a room temp/cold sweet one and a warm/hot temp savory one (they call this the "drippings". I love both and use them on different things. ..for exmaple the sweet one is great on the fries and chicken breasts while the hot one is great on the ribs. Fries are krinkle cut= my favorite. Brisket is never dry...and some times its ridiculously moist even I'm surprised. Its served with a dipping sauce but I enjoy it as it is. Another BBQ staple is Sweet Tea and they've got it. Actually theyve got both, sweet and Unsweetened. Both tasty. Catering is just as good. I ordered once for a Birthday party. Pricing is decent, can't really complain. Oh, come during lunch (Monday-Friday 12-4pm) for some reduced prices. Dont forget to grab some chocolates for the drive home. Chocolate Andes Mints available for 5 cents by the register.

I don't eat meat but for this place I have to make an exception. Their ribs are delicious soft juicy fall off the bone good and you must try the corn on the cob. It comes in a bed of melted butter, it's not diet friendly but it is good. The garlic bread that comes with the meal have a nice crunchy crust and soft buttery center. The coleslaw it's also very good. My only complaint is that they do not let you substitute anything so in my case I can't never get my onion rings instead of the french fries. I have also had the baked beans and key lime pie and as with everything else they make it is outstanding. The service is always great and the atmosphere is very casual.

This location is better than the one in Kendall. The service was great. The ribs were very good here. Cornbread is delicious. I will be back to this location some day. The only reason why I didn't give a 5 start was for the chicken. The chicken was dry and no flavor. But I would still come back to this location

This place has the most amazing BBQ chicken and sauce. Great service and insist on getting the chicken hot off the grill. Fun to sit on picnic tables- family style. A tradition in my family for 3 generations. One of my top 5 favorite places to eat in Miami.

People may think this is a rinkydink spot, but the food has been good for years. I usually get a corn in the cob for appetizer. This beauty is soaked in melted butter, add a bit of salt & pepper and you've got an amazing little gem! This is the closest you'll get to the corn from the Youth Fair! For the entrée spare rib platter with chicken and fries. You must use the smoke sauce they make in-house. This is the key ingredient. Overall the BBQ flavor is great and extremely filling. I also highly recommend the cole slaw. Can't forget the personal AmberBock pitcher. It serves around 3-4 personal mugs. Our waitress Megan was amazing. Great service all around. What else can you ask for? Andes mints on the way out for 5¢!

Once again, I am extremely disappointed with this particular Shorty's. My last visiting was over one year ago. I was reminded why we haven't dined at this establishment in such a long time. We arrived on Friday, 11/14/14 at 7PM for dinner. We sat at our table for over 15 minutes when we realized the party at the table next to us sat after us and had been served. We even checked with that party to make sure we were correct and they confirmed we were sitting before them. They were also shocked to learn that our order hadn't been taken. I went over to the Hostess and requested to speak with the Manager. After a 10 minute wait, the manager arrived and he came to our table without an introduction or apology. In fact, he seemed bothered that we had called on him. He only uttered the words, "I'll take your order". He took our order and stomped off. The waitress appeared a few seconds later and apologized but of course had an excuse. She said our table had been added to her table list at the last minute and she had not been advised. She asked for our order to which we explained that had already given our order to the Manager. Our bill was brought to us and since I did not receive an apology, I would have expected at least one item to have been comped, but sadly nothing was. I asked the Hostess for the Manager's name and she said "Jerry". I asked for his last name and she claimed to not know what it was. How can a waitress not know her bosses' last name? In any event, Jerry is not a properly trained manager. He does nothing to ensure customer satisfaction. Sadly this is my last visit to Shorty's. I advise anyone planning to go to this Shorty's location, plan to be treated poorly and wait...

Food was good. Service sucked! They had like one waitress for 10 tables. Took forever for our drinks, to get our order taken, our food (was brought out one thing at a time), and bill. The house salad is great!!

I went to lunch today with a few friends and family. The seating was horrendous! Picnick tables? Really? People want to sit with the people they came with, not complete strangers. The food was flavorful and moist, but the portions were out of whack! I ordered the BBQ pulled pork, BBQ beans, corn bread and mozzarella sticks. (The beans, corn bread and mozzarella sticks were starters to share) We got 2 mozzarella sticks (We were a party of 6) 2 cornbreads, and a very small cup of beans. It was astonishing when my HUMONGOUS pulled pork sandwich was laid in front of me. It's diameter was probably that of a basket ball!!! The service was lousy, it took 30 minuets to get a refill of our drinks. Food took almost an hour. The worst of all is that I asked at least asked 5 TIMES to get a refill of Coke! What in the world kind of service is that?!?!? I also heard a few waitresses gossiping in the corner about my behavior, calling me things that I won't describe. I'll make this ending short, so I don't throw my phone at the wall. I am furious with "Shorty's BBQ"! I don't know why everyone found this place so great. I will never go back!!!

We went for lunch and the place was nearly empty. We seated ourselves as directed. The area waiter walked by us about 4 times and never greeted us or offered us a menu. We left after waiting about 5 minutes.

I guess my first clue should have been the fact that every table that was empty had dirty dishes.on them . I had to track down the server who was more interested in talking with his co-workers than actually taking our order. Fries were cold, chicken was a minuscule portion, I had to ask for a tea refill, women's bathroom was dirty...I guess you get the picture...we have been going to Shortys since the 70's..we did not expect gourmet dining but this is pathetic.

I have had the worst experience yesterday at Shorty's on Bird Road and Turnpike extension. It is a sad surprise to me and my family because we have been customer for over 20 years. Yesterday we sat and a waitress walk by saying they're in the middle of a shift change and it could take a little longer than usual. That's not hard to understand. After about five minutes a waitress came asking if we wanted to order anything to drink and we did. Two minutes later she came with the drinks and left two straws (we were three persons). Then she got the third one and asked if we were ready to order. We did order. After a little while my kid had finished his coke and our waitress was no where to be seen. I then asked another waitress who was pretty busy, for a coke refill and he was very quick bringing it my kid and my wife both refills A little longer our food showed up this time with another waitress. Everything was fine just we had no drinks and "our" waitress no where to be found. After quite a while another waitress came and awkwardly asked us if everything was ok; at that time I did ask for refills and the bill. We wait a little at the register because there was no one attending. While doing that we saw "our" waitress, the one who took our order initially, standing waiting behind the kitchen. That prompted my wife to tel the cashier about the horrible service we had to endure and that since we had no waitress, we did not know who could we tip. The cashier then called the manager and that when I told my wife to pay and leave. I did leave with my kid while my wife stayed talking to the manager. I understand we got there in the middle of a shift change. But that's not our fault. We did not show any sign of problem with that, just that we had no waitress and the service sucked. It is a shame because this Shorty's restaurant has been our fav for many many years. I guess it is time to move on to better places.

I posted a review yesterday regarding a terrible service I recently received at Shorty's and a terrible assistant manager called James. Update: I am happy to say that James has been fired and the amazing service I have received over more than 15 years is back!!! Thank you Jerry for recognizing the importance of GrEAT customer service. Now my whole family can continue to enjoy our 2nd home away from home Shorty's :)

I work very close to Shorty's. I come here every possible chance. The brisket plate is excellent. The grilled chicken too. Of course, barbeque ribs is their specialty. Every restaurant that you go and it is full of cops must be good so this is Shorty's case. I recommend you to wrap up with a house's cheesecake. Thanks

Best BBQ in south Florida. Baby-back ribs to die for. Best Cole slaw EVER and yum to the sweet BBQ sauce. The service is mediocre at best but the food is worth it. What I love about dinning in is the fact that it takes you a million miles from south Florida even though your on the corner of Bird and 117th. Very authentic 'Southern". Love it!

Was contacted by a manager this afternoon to offer his apologies and help rectify the situation. That's the customer service I'm use to from Shorty's. thank you. The one star is strictly service related. As much as love Shorty's food I refuse to wait to have a waiter come an acknowledge my existence. Even more so when the place is near empty. i waited 5-min & then got up & left. The worse part about it is this is the second time in as many weeks that this has occurred.

The positive reviews of this place have to be fake. My fiancé and I stopped here because we were in the area and honestly, I mistook it for Sonnys. We have been to other Shortys, but this was the worst! I asked if I could get a combo plate with chicken and pulled pork and the waiter told me no! Hmm. Even though they have a combo plate with chicken and pork steak. We ordered mashed potatoes and they were those instant kind you make from the flakes and they were super runny. The gravy was cold! The waiter didn't come back to check on us for the entire meal even though the place was half empty! My fiances plate looked like something he would get at his nursing home's cafeteria. Ugh, I wish I could warn the customers walking in. We are pretty positive people, but this is probably the worst place I've eaten in Miami...

This is usually a family fave but lately the food has not been as good, on Friday night we picked up food and both my husband and I got sick! The chicken was dry and the baby back ribs were cold and tough?? The Shorty's on US1 is always great but this location is hit or miss anymore. Too bad!

When you pass by the restaurant, you'll notice a sign that mentions it being in business for 60 years. For me, that's more of an endorsement than any review or word of mouth recommendation can muster. My GF, born and raised in Miami, had never been and I had a craving; I couldn't think of two better reasons to go. The dining room is definitely rustic and the vibe is country south, but our Cuban waitress was a visual and verbal reminder that we were indeed still in Miami. First thing I notice on the menu is their "Award-Winning" Beef Brisket. Done. My GF orders the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($7.50 lunch special) and we wait 20 minutes or so for your food. You're not given anything to nibble on while you wait and I wouldn't suggest ordering an appetizer unless you're with a group of 4, otherwise you will spoil your appetite completely. The Beef Brisket Plate was delicious. Not even the stale piece of garlic bread could ruin my barbecue craving from being thoroughly satisfied. The dipping sauce for the brisket is sour, so be prepared for that, but it's a perfect complement. The fries I could do without, maybe next time I'll order a different side. But that brisket is a worthy recipient of its awards. The Pulled Pork Sandwich is good. It's tender and sweet and tastes exactly how it should. It also comes with a side of fries and coleslaw like the brisket but is served on garlic bread (which wasn't stale). On my next trip I'm going all in on the baby back ribs, it's only $10 during lunch. It may not be the best choice if you're on your lunch break, but since I'm on early retirement I can pretty much do whatever I want. Juicy...

Bad service. Had to walk out with my husband and 2 kids. When we first walked in the waitress was going to sit us and another guy, who looked to be the manager came by and told her something. We asked for a high chair and they told us they could not put a high chair on one of the smaller tables, so they put us on a big table right next to the kitchen. I asked to be seated on a different table that showed to have ample space for the high chair. They again said no. It felt as if they were deliberately trying to separate us from other tables and it made me feel unwelcome. I had been to this restaurant several times, and this was the first (and last for that matter) that they had an issue about the high chair. Never coming back here, it was truly unnecessary to treat us that way. We have been customers for over 12 years and this is basically a deal breaker for me. A restaurant that does not welcome my kids, does not welcome me.

Again, we stopped in to have our famous Linar. (lunch/dinner) after running around all day we were famished. Had seen this place several times before and hubby loves BBQ. Looks like something you would see in the deep south. All wood, country music playing, rustic old world country style decor. It was comfy and cool. It made you want to go horse back riding. Very casual fun atmosphere, laid back at it's best! Our waitress took our drink order while we checked out the menu. Oh, oh fried green tomatoes, yes had to order for an app. They were crunchy, lightly breaded, good flavor, with a very good sauce for dipping. It seemed to be some kind of Thousand Island sauce possibly. Hubby and I both ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and slaw. Fries were excellent, the slaw was delish, creamy, smooth, had a bit to much black pepper in it but still very good. The pulled pork was tender and juicy. The BBQ sauce (only one kind on table) we really enjoyed. Good sandwich, and for the price it was huge. Eat half of it, and take the rest home for your next meal. Not impressed with their beer selection, not a good variety to choose from. Service was good, yep I would come back!

I've been coming here since the dawn of time (when i was little). This place to me is very good, I like the whole mid-west style of decor. I came here the other day and usually it is packed but to my luck it wasn't that bad. The customer service was good, we were attended from the moment we came in to till the moment we left. The server was very polite and explained the menu and our daily specials. I ordered the Spare Ribs & Half Chicken with fries and coleslaw and it came out tasting yum!. It didn't take long at all for the food to come, it actually came rather quickly... to quickly actually. But none the less the food tasted fresh especially the ribs. Definitely recommend this place!

Shortys has been our place to go for BBQ for over twenty years. After yesterday I have to look for another BBQ restaurant to frequent. It took over 10 minutes for anyone to give us the menus. When finally the waitress arrived (Jennifer) it was obvious she was not happy, we ordered our food and waited another 20 minutes. First she brought us the corn on the cob, about fifteen minutes later the rest of the meal, then another ten minutes of wondering where was the coleslaw finally she comes to let us know they are out of coleslaw. Then she said: what can I do for you instead? I replied just dont charge for the corn separate, but she said that was not a choice since she had already charged us for the corn. So we decided on a salad, only to be surprised to find out (she brought only one salad) that we would only get one salad because the coleslaw typically was only the size of a half salad, so we had to share a house salad to make up for the two coleslaws they didnt have. I found this so ridiculous, it almost insulting. Not only did we have the salad for desert (it took that long to arrive) but the attitude of this young lady and her decision to cut us down to one salad where absolutely insulting. I cannot say the food was bad, it wasnt, but the service was such that to me its not worth going, at least I dont feel she was picking on us because it was obvious from the comments I heard from neighboring tables that she was giving all the patrons the same attitude. She does a good job of eliminating clientele for Shorty's.

if you order take out you must check your order before leaving as this location will always leave something out or give poor quality. i have stopped going to this location as last order i called ahead and asked if cole slaw came with order as it did at original location on us1. advised yes and when i picked up the $20 order the cold slaw was not there and the two baked sweet potatoes were 1"x2" in size. ridiculous. called to complain and was told cold slaw not included and put on hold for 30 minutes. manager (is there one ?) never came to the phone. stay away from this location.

It was my parents' 50th (yes I said 50) anniversary. We were going to another restaurant that my mom had an interest but left when we got in and she did not like to ambiance. Therefore, we thought. We always go to Shorty's so let's go there again. We rather go to a place where we know than a place we don't know. I don't mind it but my parents can be picky. I was nervous as it was a special occasion and did not want Shorty's to disappoint me as they did in one previous occasion. We got seated quickly as it was early afternoon before the mad rush. Our server took our drink orders and then he took our normal 3 chicken dinners with the bread toasted on both sides and on a separate plate. Additionally, my mom ordered baked beans. After 10 minutes, the food came but not the bread or baked beans so we informed the waiter who told us that it was coming. When my mom got the baked beans, it was cold so she took it back and wanted an extra cole slaw instead. I guess the waiter misunderstood and brought another baked beans this time hot and another cole slaw. Oh well, great!!! My parents were happy. Oh I forgot the bread! It came hot and crispy; just the way we like them. Coincidentally, I had a bread hidden on my plate but I took it off and preferred the toasted one. All in all, we all had a good time and made my parent's 50th anniversary unforgettable. THANK YOU SHORTY'S!!! Be back soon!

It had been about 5 years since I stepped foot inside a Shorty's. The hubby and I were looking for a quick lunch and this is what we stumbled upon. He had his favorite - the bbq pork sandwich and I went with the pulled chicken sandwich. My sandwich was absolutely delicious. They give you the option of regular bun or garlic toast - I went with the regular bun hoping to save a few calories. The fries are amazing and their bbq sauce is pretty spectacular....and the most beautiful thing - our lunch was quick just like we needed!!! Hopefully it's not 5 more years until the next time, Shorty's.

Dear shorty, Would it kill you to put a couple cushions on those painfully uncomfortable wooden benches from 1951. My ass falls asleep every time I eat at your establishment. Thanks! .......other than the uncomfortable seating situation, I have no complaints about Shorty's Bar B Q. -Great service, (could be a little quicker with the check, but thats ok) -Amazing food. My fav being the fried green tomatoes starter and beef brisket platter. -Bar b q sauce that is the bomb, & and let me not forget my favorite side items, the mac and cheese and cole slaw, YUM!!!!!

Shorty's BBQ on Bird Road is a staple of the Westchester area going on 60 years! The food has not diminished or the appearance, they even have flat screen TV's. I have come with the family, and like true BBQ restaurants they have the family bench style seating. I have also had them cater some parties and the food is just as good as at the Restaurant. Great food!

Typically I would give Shorty's five stars, but today we did takeout and although the food was warm and tasted great, some of the food does not fare well and should be enjoyed in the restaurant. I ordered the ribs plate with a side of corn. The corn was delicious and came with a large cup of butter...amazing (and soo bad for you). The ribs were good, but did not have too much BBQ sauce and they were a little more fatty than I remembered. The fries unfortunately were soggy and cold. On the positive side, the food was ready quickly and the order was accurate. I recommend the restaurant but I suggest eating inside versus take out.

I have a friend come in town to visit and I decided to try out all of the restaurants that I see frequently, but haven't eaten at yet. There are 5 Shorty's locations, but I always run by this one on SW 40th st. I looked up the menu on the website and saw that they had coupons for their dinners. Being a cheap grad student, this was perfect for me. We went on a Sunday night around 8pm. Not crowded at all and we were seated instantly. As soon as we walked in, the scent of delicious bbq hits you and makes your mouth water. I didn't know quite what to expect knowing that Miami throws it's Hispanic flavor on everything it does, but this seemed to be a very "southern" style restaurant. We both got the spare ribs dinner with fries, cole slaw, and toast. The fries were decent, toast was really good, didn't even eat the cole slaw (not a big fan of veggies), but the spare ribs were Holy $h!t good!!! I'm not even a fan of hot sauce, but they had this orangish-colored sauce that I tried on it and it was a match made in heaven. It might have been the best ribs I have ever eaten, and that's saying a lot. The service was decent, but not superb (I never even got a refill on my water), but the flavor of the spare ribs alone warrants a 5-star for this place. I really hope more people come to visit me so I can have a reason to come eat here again. And don't forget the coupons on the website: 2 spare ribs dinner for $15.59ish. Great deal.

Been going here w my parents since I was a kiddo. Love the food. Always get the family platter so we can eat like chanchos and have food to take home for lunch the next day. I loooove BBQ sauce and theirs is the shiznit

The chicken tenders are amazing. I love the ribs and fried green tomatoes. This is not a classy place so don't expect too much form the service but that's what you get when you go to an old fashioned BBQ joint. At lunch I get the pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast, be sure to ask or you might get the regular sandwich on a bun at a higher price.

Some of the best barbeque I've ever eaten. So good you want to lick your fingers. We stopped here after biking 15 miles at shark valley so we had worked up an appetite. This was our first time so of course, I wanted to try everything. I'd never had fried green tomatoes before and figured I like fried food and tomatoes so I must love them but they were my least favorite of all the things we tried. My friend Betty got the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious. I got the half rack of ribs which were amazing. Literally the meat fell off the bone and the sauce was so perfectly sweet I kind of wanted to drink it out of the bottle. Even the cole slaw was yummy and I usually don't even bother with that. The chicken wings were grilled and very tender. I love wings and these were definitely up there on the list of good wings. They came plain and I'm curious about their wing sauce - maybe next time. We also got the baked mac and cheese which was awesome. Its hard to mess up mac and cheese but this was just the right level of cheesy. The decor in this place makes the experience. While the bench type seating isn't the most comfortable, the signs on the wall saying Bimini or Boston and how faw away they were is cool. There were lots of other random items. On the wall of our booth was a magazine article listing top Miami restaurants or go tos for certain cuisines and we were pretty sure Shortys was one of only 2 that are still open. Just a testament that this place can and will continue to stand the test of time. I can't wait to go back again!

I haven't been to many barbecue places, but wow did this place make me want to eat more of it!! Just walking next to it, you can smell the awesome bbq smell. I went with a co-worker and he said we had to have the corn-on-the-cob so we ordered 2 for appetizer. I ordered mine with a side of BBQ beans. So good!! Appetizers were brought out pretty fast, which was great! The corn had a ton of butter on it, but it still tasted amazing! The BBQ beans were just delicious. I order a half rack with mashed potatoes, coleslaw and garlic bread, and my co-worker had the brisket with a baked potato, coleslaw and garlic bread. Wow!! The ribs were a bit dry but they tasted great. Best mashed potatoes with gravy I've ever had. I tried the brisket with some gravy they bring out with it and I was just in food heaven. I went into a food coma. I had to be rolled out of there! Honestly, I'd recommend this place to anyone that likes bbq or just wants to pig out for a decent price. Great food, great service. Will come back soon!

Fast, easy and simple is the way I like it for lunch! Nice selection and good prices. I had the pulled pork sandwich, with slaw and fries. I enjoy drenching the fries in their own hot BBQ sauce..mm.

Love this place. Shorty's Barbecue isn't the best in the South, but for me, its the best offered around town. (If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know) Ive had the ribs and they're real good. I'm a huge fan of spare ribs as opposed to baby backs, cause when they're done right, there isn't anything better. The ribs weren't the best but they were definitely worth the price. The chicken is real moist and I like the seasoning they put on it. I usually get the chicken and rib combo for around $12. Its well worth it. You get two sides and a generous portion of ribs and chicken. The bbq sauce is real good. However, they have this one thing called smokey sauce which is terrible. (Tastes like someone threw cigarettes in sauce) A part of me would just like to walk around and ask if anybody actually enjoys this smokey sauce. Ill just stick with the normal good ole barbecue sauce they got. The decor is set up pretty much like a old country store. They have picnic benches for tables and actually have a couple of TVs to watch some sports with your bbq. Service was good and food comes out fairly quickly.

Delicious. Consistent. Easy. That's how I would describe Shorty's. Sunday lunch with Abuela usually takes me to different Miami establishments, and this was our first visit to this location. Spare ribs platter with coleslaw, fries and garlic bread. Abuela was in the mood for wine - so she ordered some (who knew they served wine?! even if it's just those little twist off bottles?). I was left stuffed for the day. Dessert was a warm brownie with ice cream, but next time I'll skip it. I'm somewhat of a dessert snob and that brownie tasted straight out of a box. Service was a bit off... the waiter was good, but just very busy.

I will start with the seating, the benches are small and farther away from the table than I like. The lemonade was watered down but I think the tap just needed to be changed but still. The lunch specials were really well priced but they had 5 wings added to your meal for $5 or 10 wings for 6.99, the $2 difference didn't make much sense for 5 more wings. We were told the wings are grilled and then fried but we couldn't tell. They looked and tasted like they were fried twice. The wings come out to you dry and you have to add your own sauce to them that are sitting on the table and they're NOT even labeled, pfft, really? I ordered the pulled pork sandwich on garlic toast lunch special and it was really good at a good price but i don't think garlic bread really goes well with BBQ pulled pork sandwich. It came with a side of fries and coleslaw and the fries looked and tasted like they were double fried like the wings, im not a fan. The coleslaw was watery and even though it had a unique flavor it was just a bit bland. The service was good not great and when we paid at the cashier she was a bit busy catching up with someone standing there for a few moments while we waited to cash out. It was good to visit once but I'll be looking for a new BBQ place to frequent.

Granted - it's probably not fair that I dropped by Shorty's a week after visiting Austin and savoring my first taste of Texas BBQ. In fact, it's grossly unfair. But guess what? Life isn't fair, Shorty's! Lucky for you, I'm a big ol' marshmallow girl hiding underneath wolf's clothing. So really, if i could, I'd give you 3.5 stars. But I can't. So just deal with it and stop crying on my Dooney & Burke for chrissakes. Like all good BBQ joints, Shorty's is housed in ramshackle barn/cabin type structure with pseudo horse posts lined up outside just in case you have a hankering for getting your beef fix while riding through wild and unruly Bird Road upon your steed. Picnic tables line the place with the ubiquitous paper towel roll plopped on top to wipe up your grimy, saucy hands. Me and the fam ordered up the Family Platter - holy mother of sausage fests! There's more meat up on this platter than crawling up Justin Bieber's jock! The ribs and chicken were moist, succulent and juicy. The brisket (ordered separately from the platter - yeah, that's how my family rolls...and what?) was truly disappointing. I was expecting the melt-in-your-mouth awesomeness of County Line in Austin and instead had a chewy mass of poorly flavored beef. Sadness. The baked beans were of the same canned ilk from your local Publix or Winn-Dixie. Nothing to write home about. And the rolls...ehh. Dinner rolls. Blah. One outstanding note: Cole Slaw. WhaTtttt?!?!? With those flecks of peppercorn and that creamy, crunchy texture??? I'm not ashamed to admit that I ate everybody's little cup of manna and STILL wanted to order more. Don't judge. Texas, take note: SoFL just whooped yo' ass on the cole slaw front. Step up. The key lime for dessert was pretty decent (slightly tart and creamy) as were the prices. Service wasn't bad either (coincidentally enough our server's name was...Austin. Heh.) I've been to their location on US1 several times and can't say that I've been disappointed...Shorty's West Miami outpost follows suit - not a disappointment, but doesn't quite scratch the itch for the real deal.

The food was good, the service was sub par. The fried okra was delicious! The skirt steak is ok but in Miami I recommend going elsewhere for a truly exquisite churrasco (of course, I would be the one to go and order a skirt steak at a BBQ place, when will I ever learn??) Anyway, the true winner here was the brisket. It was delicious and cooked to perfection and served with an amazing brisket sauce. As a side note, we tried to ask for more brisket sauce for our fries and were given their "Shorty's sauce" instead - BEWARE. Do not, under any circumstances, order their shorty's sauce or any item listing it as it was the grossest sauce I've ever tasted. Eventually we did get the brisket sauce and all was well in the world but I wish someone would've warned US about the shorty's sauce ahead of time, yuck!!

Shorty's has some of the best baby back ribs in Miami. I happen to like their smoky homemade sauce, so I usually add some to my ribs. While the ribs are excellent, my favorite thing to order here is the corn on the cob. It is so buttery, fattening, and delicious! I could come here just to eat 2-3 orders of corn! I haven't tried too many of the other items on the menu, but I would recommend the baked beans. I've been eating at Shorty's since I was a child. Their menu has expanded over the years, but the family style setting hasn't. I remember eating at the Shorty's on US1 when it felt like you were eating in a barn, so I was thrilled when they opened one near my house. I would give it 5 stars, but I didn't like the mac n cheese, have never liked the cole slaw, and their wings leave a lot to be desired. Aside from that, the service is always friendly and their staple is indeed excellent. I just got a craving for corn...

I can't even say anything negative about this place. Every time I come here I never have to wait long and the service is always good. If your in a BBQ mood come to shorty's they have another location on south dixie. The corn is so good & mouthwatering. Its also good for takeout if your too tired to cook anything at home. Real bbq right in Miami, Love it big fan!

My last visit was not as good as my previous ones were. I went on a weekday during late lunch and there were only a couple tables with guests. The server took forever for everything: to take our order, to deliver the food, to bring the check. The ribs were dry and overcooked and the corn was mushy. I did not enjoy my meal. Maybe they were having a bad food day, I don't know; so I'm giving my 2 stars instead of one (because my other visits were not so bad, I guess). However, I have not been tempted to return.

I really want to like Shorty's, which is why I keep coming back. But after having Sonny's in Homestead it's hard to give it the three star rating I was hoping to give it... Ordered a Diet Coke, which was a little off and had to send it back, so opted for a cold bud light - can't go wrong with that. Started with the MAC & Cheese, it's baked - and it's yummy, but nothing spectacular. I ordered the pulled pork platter with fries and coleslaw and hubby ordered the full rack of ribs. The ribs were MUCH better than my pulled pork.. The pulled pork had WAYYYY too much bbq sauce, I couldn't even taste the pork. If it would have had half as much sauce it would have been a winner. Fries are crinkle fries, which aren't bad and the coleslaw is tasty. The ribs were very yummy, I must say - so I kept eating my hubby's plate. I was surprised to see the $18 price tag on the ribs, though - can't go anywhere without spending $50 lately! The pork was $9 for a full plate and a heck of alot of food. Unfortunately, I think I may opt for Sonnys.. :(

Shorty's has 3 locations in Miami, and is as far as I know the ONLY American-style BBQ place in Miami aside from Uncle Tom's. They have great chicken and beef sandwiches, and people swear by their ribs (not my style) . They make their own BBQ sauces, and smoke their chicken and ribs each day. Also, they have great lunch specials during the week most between 5-8$. It is not the best BBQ I have eaten, but it is a Miami institution and if you're hankering for some BBQ this is the place to go. Also, unlike Uncle Tom's Shorty's accepts credit cards and sells t-shirts.

This place must have lied about their Zagat rating. Horrible food, horrible service, and I am now still feeling nautious 5 hours later. We both ordered a house salad with italian on the side, were given honey mustard instead. We both ordered sweet potatoes and were given regular potatoes that tasted sour. We were given a strange salt shaker full of barbecue sauce. It was the worst sauce I had ever had in my life. I describe it as being like taking a piece of burnt meat that fell on the floor and grinding it up for the sauce. My boyfriend said it tasted like it was made with charcoal briquettes. The service needless to say was horrible and it took forever to get the bill. It was like we were being held hostage by the restaurant!

I really want to say eehhh.... I had good expectations, it's Shorty's good manipulated meat awaits. We were greeted with a smile which is always a plus, but then our waitress was super duper slow... onto the food. My pulled pork was dry and chewy not at all what I was hoping for and my fries were ICE cold... fries are important next to a sandwich!!! Pluses, my mom really enjoyed her steak and we ordered onion rings which were also pretty tasty. All in all it was alright.

I like this Shorty's better than the one on US1 that is always crowded and parking is sometimes impossible. We came for the beef brisket, but they had run out. It was already late so I guess they sold out. We got the beef plate instead it was alright but I prefer the beef brisket. I love their sweet tea freshly brewed, sometime I ask for half sweet/half no sugar. The corn on the cob is so juicy, I always ask for the butter on the side cause they give you the corn floating on butter and that can be a little fattening. They now have Mac and Cheese the portion was really big. I personally have had better the noodles are over cooked for my taste. Shorty's is ok for your average BBQ place in Miami.

Shorty's- perfect spot for your BBQ Fix! Not too many BBQ joints around so not much to compete against. Garlic toast always crunchy, fries are of the frozen kind but are just fine! Coleslaw is always good and of course your BBQ meats- babybacks are great, chicken fall off the bone, spare ribs with a little bite to them. All in all, always have a good time when I;m here.

Shorty's BBQ has been around for a long time, we're talking when US-1 was a dirt road!!! (I'm not kidding, seen the picture on the wall). I originally discovered it when I worked by Dadeland after high school and my coworker took me there for lunch one day. I was kind of taken back by the simple little shack, with picnic tables and screen for windows. But I was reassured when I saw the long line of people waiting to be seated during lunch time on a weekday. Since then, they have opened a couple of other restaurants, one in the West Dade area closer to my house. If there is one thing I can say about Shorty's BBQ is that they are consistent, good BBQ every time!!!! My favorite is there Brisket lunch or dinner platter, served with perfect fries and slaw. Also try the Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard, my wife's favorite. What sets Shorty's apart from most "BBQ" places is there distinct variety of homemade sauces and of course the delicious tasting MEAT!!!! IMPORTANT: DO NOT FORGET TO ORDER A BUTTERY CORN ON THE COB!!!!

First off, I want to say the service is phenomenal. Our waitress stopped by every so often to make sure we are ok and our cups were never empty. The food also came out really quickly. As for the food, we ordered the potato skins to start and since we had a buy one get one free coupon, my fiance and I both ordered the bbq spareribs. The potato skins were ok, we had better. It was flavorful but I felt like the texture was a bit too soft. I am more used to crispier potato skins. As for the ribs, it came with cole slaw and garlic bread. The spareribs were very well seasoned and from the coloring of the meat, it was obvious that it was slow cooked--done the right way. It tasted fine without any sauce. But when I added their specially made bbq sauce, it was amazing! The sauce is a bit sweet and not too overpowering. The fries were decent, nothing special. The garlic bread was very flavorful. It could have been toasted a bit more but I still liked it. I am not a cole slaw fan so I can't really review it.

We had never been here and we will never go back. We went in on a weekday afternoon and the place was practically empty. We asked for a children's menu for a very small person in our party. We were told that it was against the policy to bring children's menus to a table where no children were seated. We pointed out that the person in question was virtually child sized and could the waitress please ask the manager to make an exception. She asked and we were told no and we got up and left. Really bad form especially when the restaurant was practically empty.

The sign behind the cashier says it all "hot beer, lousy food, bad service". Table was sticky. No one came to greet us we had to wave someone down. Server only dropped off our food did not come back to check on us or even to bring the bill. When we went to the register our waitress looked at us like she didn't even know who we were. I had to point to our table to get the correct bill. Won't be going there again

Every time I eat at Shorties, I'm just happy if the server has all her teeth. It's not a bad joint if you don't come with real expectations. the chicken might be cold or the meats dry (douse in sauce) but overall a fairl meal. Garlic bread is disgusting. Corn in the cob swimming in butter is fun, though. Prices have crept up over the last few years.

Let me begin this review by saying that I am by no means a BBQ snob. I probably don't know what real and authentic BBQ is supposed to taste like. And I probably don't know how this place compares to the almighty BBQ states of Texas or North Carolina. But what I do know is that the food here is both delicious and affordable. I came here with a few friends after school for lunch and decided to try the Pulled Pork sandwich, which comes with french fries and cole slaw. I had been here before but that was many years ago and I don't really remember it to well so I might consider this my first real time at a Shorty's. And I was pleasantly surprised with what I received. The sandwich was huge and everything tasted fresh and delicious. The pork was not too dry and although there was enough BBQ sauce in it, it did not overpower the flavor of the meat. The cole slaw was probably one of the best I've ever had and the fries were decent enough. The only thing that left me wanting more from this place (and kept me from giving it 5 stars) was the service. But I guess you can't expect awesomeness from every place you go.
