This place is great! We had the tomato bisque, boneless buffalo wings, chicken cutlet salad with vinaigrette and watermelon, and a breakfast burger (egg, bacon and cheese). We ordered two items from the menu, which they were out of, however the cook and waitress went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with some substituted items. Owner run, small specials menu features the chicken cutlet described above, hickory baby back ribs, boneless ribeye, and shepards pie. Got the crepes and café con leche for dessert. Everything was excellent! We will definitely be back, once the owners return from vacation in two weeks (today is August 23rd).

Love this place! Every time I come here I am never disappointed. Small quiet atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food. I make sure to Bring all my friends here and they're all hooked too! If you're in the area or not you have to try it. I only wish they were open on Sunday so I could have my weekly Sunday brunch here.

A new fave breakfast spot. Right off State road 7/441 just north of Atlantic on the west side, tucked right next to a Thrift City, Gem Eatery is a "gem" for sure. Hubby and I love breakfast food, I'll eat a good pancake any day so based on our good Yelp folks and friends reviews and in conversation, we beelined here as soon as we could. The place is small, homey, my favorite kind of place. We walked in on a mid Saturday morning and were told by a very nice waitress to sit anywhere; it was about half full, not too busy. We sat near the back near the kitchen. My observant hubby noticed upon entry that this was also a bakery--we were close to a video screen that looped pictures of fancy cakes, cookies, catered events and other bakery fare they offered. Then this very happy, friendly gentleman came out of the kitchen with a HUGE tray of HUGE freshly baked cinnamon rolls---I kid you not--I thought we had wandered into some episode of a Food Channel bakery challenge show or guy fieri or something, I thought cameras were going to trail him going through the restaurant. Lol. He just wanted to get the scent of fresh baked buns throughout the place. And tempt the customers, maybe. Epic. Anyway, our minds (and calorie consciousnesses) were set on having a simple breakfast. The menu is pretty straightforward. A few combos, seemed like most items were la carte. I selected to have one pancake with bacon crumbles cooked into the batter. I asked for white chocolate chips to be added. That pancake was so good. And huge. I could only eat half, thanks to our sweetie pie waitress who advised me to order only one. It was chock full of actual pieces of crispy bacon. Hubby had a combo with pancakes, eggs, home fries and bacon. A little slice of watermelon added color made his plate look more appetizing. Those home fries though.......Lol! Going back soon for Cinnamon rolls. And my own order home fries. Love!

My wife wanted to go out for lunch late on this Saturday afternoon. Because of previous reviews I decided we would try the Gem Eatery. We are so glad we did. The owner and chef waited on us - it was the middle afternoon between the lunch and dinner crowds. The sweet tea is just right. We both went for the Pulled Pork Sandwich, me with coleslaw and wife with fries. Sandwich was awesome and just the right size. Very tasty. Homemade coleslaw was just the right amount of sweet, and the fries the perfect fresh and crispy cooked perfectly. We ended with Key Lime Cheesecake. Not to tart, and not to sweet. And because everyone talks about the cinnamon buns, we took one home. But get this - the owner said she would get one out of the freezer that was ready for tomorrow morning and then wrote out directions for us on how to heat it up when we ready. We have found a new lunch spot, and will be back for breakfast soon.

I come here almost every Saturday morning! My favorite place for breakfast. This time my son was in town brought him and he had this delicious white chocolate chip Belgium waffle. He loved it!

My dining experience at The Gem Eatery was amazing! Sam and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to try out the cinnamon rolls that all the Yelpers raved about. Upon inspection of the rest of the menu, we also decided to order an actual meal. Sam got the brisket sandwich, which was on the specials menu, and I got the Cuban sandwich. Both sandwiches came with fries. The service at The Gem Eatery is great. The waiter greeted us immediately when we walked in and he told us we could sit wherever. He brought our food out in a timely manner and checked on us several times. We also got to meet the chef who was super nice and gracious. Now to the food- The Cuban sandwich was AWESOME. Probably my favorite Cuban sandwich that I have eaten since being in South Florida. It had the perfect amount of shredded pork, really thickly cut ham, perfectly distributed pickles and delicious bread. Sam's brisket sandwich was super tasty. The meat was so tender! I was also surprised to find out that the bread was homemade! The fries were also delicious. They were thin cut fries that you couldn't help but shove in your mouth until they were all gone. As for what we originally came to The Gem Eatery for, the Cinnamon Roll!!! Sam and I ordered one to split for dessert. OH MY GOD. Could not rave more about that thing! Seriously the best cinnamon roll I have ever had in my life. The thing was huge too! Sam and I literally fought over who was eating more. I found myself eating it faster than normal just so I could make sure he didn't get more than I did. I truly believe that it's the cream cheese frosting that made it. I CANNOT WAIT until we go back for another one.

Great fresh food. Most is cooked to order. Tiny place with only about 6 tables. Wish they were opened on Sunday's.

Wonderful little place for brunch or any other meal. They make everything fresh to order. It's not a place to go to in a rush, but relax and they will make you an incredible breakfast. They make huge cinnamon rolls with a caramel sauce and cream cheese frosting. Their smothered French toast is so good, and so are their breakfast wraps and sandwiches. They will also make you something else if you request it. Great hidden gem in Margate.

I had this spot bookmarked for a long time before Elizabeth suggested we go try this out yesterday for lunch. I must admit that if it weren't for yelp there is no way we would've found this place. My first impression was that it was really weird looking. I'm sorry, but I don't think that this location was built for a sit down restaurant. This was literally the only negative thing about my experience. To be honest, appearances are just about the last important thing to me. I had the brisket sandwich. Even at the BBQ restaurants that I've tried, the brisket sandwiches haven't come close to touching this one. The brisket was juicy and tender. The sauce itself was incredibly tasty. The bread was definitely different, but maybe even the best part of the sandwich. I asked the owner what kind it was. (He was sitting right behind us) He told me that they make it from scratch! For dessert we split the cinnamon roll. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten! I literally couldn't stop eating until it was gone. It was like Jesus came down and baked this cinnamon bun to give us hope that heaven exists. If this is really what heaven is like, then I will never sin again. All of the staff is friendly and helpful. Absolutely no complaints with the service. It was timely and the waiter was polite. Needless to say, but I'll be back.

Went here recently with fellow yelpers Savanna and Jessica for a quick lunch. And by lunch I mean breakfast! First thing I noticed is that this place is in South Florida strip mall hell. From the outside, completely non-descript. Inside, it has the classic 'cozy upscale diner' feel. But also looked very clean and well taken care of. The seating was classic south florida diner style with tables and chairs, but with enough space between them that I didn't feel crowded (take note fellow giants!). We were greeted and taken care of promptly. There appeared to be only one staff member serving but we had no problem getting our orders in and he was knowledgeable and friendly. He recognized Jessica as a regular and let her know what she might be interested in. Very good staff! I was a little concerned because it was not super busy, which is not always a great sign, but I think in this case it's due more to the restaurant's location than anything else. As for food itself, wow! Just having breakfast available at lunch is already a big thumbs up from me. I took advantage of this and ordered the smothered french toast. It is a little more expensive (about 9 bucks), and I was a little disappointed when it first came out because it was a little smaller than I expected. Rookie mistake! That cream cheese/strawberry frosting was absolutely amazing, but also super filling. The portion size ended up being perfect. I was able to finish my last bite just as I was slipping into hyperglycemic shock. The actual french toast itself was light and fluffy, and the overall flavor was amazing! Top notch. This is one of those tucked away local secrets. Definitely try this place out if you're in the area, you will not regret it!

Finally made it to The Gem Eatery! Based on the Yelp reviews and specific messages from other yelpers I had a feeling this place would be good. After finding The Gem Eatery inside a nondescript strip mall we walked in and I was pleasantly surprised. This place is super cute and we were greeted by the server immediately. So far so good! And then I saw the menu and was instantly disappointed. They serve breakfast all day and list some lunch options but nothing sounded particularly good or exciting. It mostly sounded like average diner food. I was tempted to get the Stuffed Pepper lunch special, but in the end selected a wrap with fish and opted for the chipotle mayo sauce (they have about 4 sauces to choose from) and I got settled in for an average meal. When our food came out I noted a) how big it was and b) once cut in half it still didn't look like anything special. Let me tell you - I WAS WRONG! This wrap was delicious! Everything inside complimented each other perfectly and that chipotle mayo was "lick the plate good"! Served with a side of healthy pita chips, this was an awesome meal! Jessica G. ordered a side of mac and cheese so I dug in as well (goodbye skinniness)...this was also delicious and worth all the bad calories. Before paying, our server convinced us to split the cream cheese cinnamon roll. For $5 this can easily serve 4 and we took about half to go (not cause we couldn't finish it, but because this was an exercise in will power lol). This was also delicious. So yes, 3 out of 3 = delicious. Not to mention the service was great!! I can't wait to come back here!

A very fitting name for a great little place! A gem is exactly what this place is. I've been here on several occasions and the food keeps me coming back. Fresh made omelettes, fluffy pancakes, warm and toasty sandwiches and hot, strong coffee. The restaurant is a tiny hidden gem tucked away in a small shopping plaza. Not a huge place but very cozy. The staff is very warm and welcoming and are usually quick and very attentive. A few of the times that I've visited, the restaurant has been full and they only have one server on staff which backs up ordering and slows service a bit (that's my only reason for not leaving 5 stars). This is not enough to keep me from coming back! The food is fantastic! Their breakfast, lunch and dinner are all great. Fairly large portions at very reasonable prices. They use fresh ingredients and they put a lot of love into their food. The gem sandwich is my favorite. It comes with eggs, your choice of bacon or sausage, your choice of cheese and your choice of sauce between fresh baked bread placed in a sandwich press. It's not served with a side so you'd have to order grits or potatoes a la carte. The pancakes are heavenly. Thick, fluffy and delicious. Cooked to perfection. The one thing I have yet to try is their homemade cinnamon buns (which I hear is what they're famous for) I've seen several guests order them and they are gigantic with a nice helping of frosting for only $5. On size alone, totally worth the price. I will definitely order one the next time I visit the Gem Eatery.

Wow...what a selection. The owner came out explained the specials and soups..everything is so reasonably priced and its all home made and fresh. Russell was torn between pancakes but got the blue cheese bacon burger I got the tomato soup which is vegan and grilled cheese with tomatoes and we both got fries. Love the steely Dan playing..one of my favorite artists. We got brownie bites from yelp as an extra bonus! Thanks Yelp!! The food is what everyone says..delicious!! We will be back!!

We were in town on a business trip and decided to try the local restaurant scene. This place had some great ratings, so we figured we'd check it out. We were a little put off by the outside, as it has a tiny store front, but we couldn't have been more wrong. The minute we walked in the door, it transformed into a tastefully decorated, warm, inviting cafe with the most amazing smells coming from the kitchen. We were promptly addressed and seated, and our waiter was very friendly (sorry I don't remember your name!). He even suggested local areas to visit while we were in town. The food itself was fantastic. Everything is made from scratch. We got the Pesto Chicken, and were amazed to find out that the pesto was made right in store. It was delicious! The Smothered French Toast was perfect for my sweet tooth, and both the mac and cheese and the fries were delicious. To top off the whole meal, we decided we'd go for the cinnamon roll, as they seemed popular. Let me tell you, it's a BIG roll, and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend. This place was probably one of the best restaurants I've been to, and I would gladly recommend it to anyone. Enjoy!

Pretty good name first off. As we walked in, we noticed how small it was and that every seat was filled. So we made our way past everyone who were seated having their lunch,( while they gave us a sorta strange look, maybe because there was no more tables, idk). When we got to the register we meet a lovely man who gave us menus and asked if we wanted to stay or take out. I decided if we were gonna try this place, might as well stay for the entire experience. So we stood there about 15 minutes while waiting for a table to clear (I can be determined when I'm hungry lol) When seated he took our orders and asked us if we wanted any recommendations. (Um yes! Thank you for asking! ) so many places when you ask for recommendations they say idk everything's good. ;;Any who, he recommended a fajito to my husband and i wanted buffalo wings, because,..well...i like buffalo wings. My husband decided to sneak in an order for the loaded baked potatoe soup, which i wasn't expecting him to do but boy was i glad he did! Let me tell you something, my husband is very open about what he likes and does it without saying a word. The soup arrived piping hot! When he lifted his spoon filled with soup, the smell hit me like a cold ac on a hot day! It smelled so enticing. With his first spoon i noticed he started swaying side to side, (and it was not the too the music playing in the restaurant) it was a very upbeat sway. I could see he didn't want to make eye contact with me in fear of losing his delicious soup but it was inevitable. He pushed it towards me and delicious it was! We shared it, promising to come back just for this Even if our food wasnt good. No sooner the thought, our food arrives. His fajito was bigger than we expected and it came with chips and a salsa dip my husband raved about. My wings were plumped, hot and juicy! French fries were good too! We finished our meal while discussing our next visit and what we would order lol. All in all, Great food! The seating area is a little small and you might have to wait for a seat but i Think it's worth it. Definitely a Gem!

This place has managed to surpass my expectations time and time again.. The hardest part is ordering noting whatever you get will good and them having to wait for the food... Excellent service and variety as they have specials everyday to keep things interesting ...

I've been meaning to come here for quite a long time, the Yelp reviews could not be ignored, and I actually live very close by, so this past Friday we decided to go a little out of our way for lunch and finally try Gem Eatery. This is an upscale diner type place located in a shopping center that doesn't look all that special, but walking in to Gem it's like you're not even in the strip mall any more. Everything looks new and the decorations are very cute. It has a homey feel. There was another larger party seated inside, but overall it was kind of empty. We were seated right away and started looking over then menu. Our waiter came over and pointed out that they had quite a few specials that day (things like stuffed peppers and sausage and peppers). The specials sounded home made and amazing. I was pleased to find quite a few vegetarian friendly options on the menu and decided on the veggie wrap. The wrap had so many options. It is included with a ton of different veggies, but you could also choose your sauce from a variety such as chipotle mayo, roasted red pepper aioli, and a few others. There was also the choice of white or wheat wrap, and brown or jasmine rice. The wraps were delivered and they were huge! Even though mine was "just veggie" it was stuffed with all kinds of fresh and delicious ingredients. The chipotle mayo was great, and I loved the feta cheese and greek olives inside, they made it way more unique than veggie wraps I get anywhere else. Because it was a Friday, and my first time trying Gem, I had to order a side of mac and cheese. It comes in a cup or a bowl, and I went for the bowl so we could share. This bowl could have easily been a meal in itself, and the mac and cheese was delicious. The cheese sauce was very creamy and it was topped with bread crumbs, and I also think I detected a mushroom flavor in there, so it was more complex than just noodles and cheese. We were pretty stuffed, but our waiter was quick to offer us desserts, and I seen the cinnamon bun pictures on Yelp, I couldn't resist. The cinnamon bun was LARGE, and topped with an amazing cream cheese frosting. The cinnamon bun was prepared well, and wasn't a gooey mess like other giant cinnamon buns can be. We did our best with this one, and though I probably could have eaten the whole things, we left with about half of it boxed up. The bill came to less than $30. It was a steal. I was pleased to learn that although Gem is closed Sundays and Mondays, the other days of the week they offer breakfast all day. This is very good to know for Saturdays when it takes me awhile to get moving. They also serve beer and wine so this could easily be a cheaper date night with great food as well.

Well we finally got here for dinner and... oh my goodness, do yourself a favor and head to the Gem! My wife started with a simple house salad with homemade blue cheese dressing that was so good she ate every bit of it. Then on to dinner, we both got the specials: manicotti with a side of meatballs that was fresh, homemade, good balance of cheese to pasta, and DELICIOUS. I had the baby back ribs and they were awesome - I LOVE BBQ and have eaten loads in my life and these were up there with the best; sweet sauce YUMMY! Then on to dessert: a brownie ice cream fudge and peanut butter crumble delight that was incredible! Big enough to split for two and then some. I highly recommend it. We'll be back for sure, Enjoy!

Had lunch here today...Food and Service were excellent!! First of all they are not easy to find because the mall they're in is on a corner and the street sign on SR 7 shows the numbers for the cross road (Margate Blvd)...so don't drive by like I did! You can find them in the mall on the SW corner of SR 7 and Margate Blvd. Not much to look at from the street... Walked in and my nose was pleasantly surprised with the smell of awesomeness coming from the kitchen. Secondly I noticed two well fed local police officers having lunch (always a good sign for really good/reasonably priced food). I was going to get takeout but after watching a few meals come out of the kitchen I decided to stay and enjoy my lunch there. I saw home made looking burgers and sandwiches and salads that looked sooo good... I ordered a Cuban sandwich with FF well done...I wasn't sure the waiter (Mike) caught the 'well done' part, but a few minutes later the sandwich arrived from the kitchen by the owner (Tony) and he announced Cuban with Fries well done (and they were..I hate undercooked fries). The sandwich was huge, the fries were plentiful, and my iced tea was never empty. Best Cuban Sandwich I've ever had! I only ate half and took the rest back to my office where two of my colleagues split the remaining half for their lunch! The most amazing part was my check $10 and change for a humungous sandwich with FF and an Iced Tea.

Love love love this place for breakfast!!! Best pancakes ever! Cheesy jalapeño grits should not be missed. Sandwiches are huge-- we usually split one and get the grits to accompany.

Wow! They really live up to their namesake here. This eatery is a true Gem! Portions are huge and prices are low. The quality of everything from the coffee to the breakfast wrap was top notch. I really enjoyed the fact that they offer whole wheat options on pancakes and French toast. (Warning: Pancakes are enormous!) Our server was quick, friendly and attentive. Big thumbs up to that guy! (I forget his name. Oops!) Overall, it was a really wonderful experience. We will be back and encourage you to check this place out if you haven't yet!

Wow, did I find a 'GEM' here. It is a very small restaurant located right next to an Irish bar in an old beat up shopping center. This is not the type of restaurant that I would expect to find in the heart of Margate. I was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant for lunch. They have about seven or eight tables and it does not seem to get too loud. The waitstaff was extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the food. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The prices on the menu were very reasonable with most of the dinner portions not higher than $15. I ordered cheesy grits (the best I've ever had in my life), an egg white omelet with ham, tomatoes, grilled onions and American cheese which was so good that I thought I died and went to breakfast heaven. It was by far the best egg white omelet that I've ever eaten. The person I had lunch with had a tomato, garlic, basil and mozzarella flat bread pizza which looked & smelled incredibly. The chef also offers many other items that are very imaginative. I will definitely go back very soon, probably with my family. I am sure my Elite wife will love this place is much as I do.

I saw on yelp that they make homemade cinnamon rolls so I had to check it out. I went on a Tuesday at noon and the place was empty. The menu shows that they offer homemade dishes like mac and cheese, Cuban sandwich, breakfast, etc. They are open breakfast/lunch/dinner. There is a large parking lot out front with plenty of free parking. There is also a bike rack in front of the restaurant. I ordered a cinnamon roll to go. They gave me a frozen one with a side cup of cream cheese frosting. They would have served it warm if I was going to eat it right away. I took it home and warmed it up in my microwave and then frosted it. This roll was AMAZING! Perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar and the dough was super fresh tasting. It is a large serving, and it should be for the $5 I paid. If in the area, I would definitely pick up another cinnamon roll. I'm also curious to try some food, however, a little curious why they had NO customers at lunch.

Went to The Gem recently based on the highly positive Yelp reviews. The food was very good, with reasonable prices and very nice presentation. The atmosphere isn't much to speak of, but it's worth checking out if you're in the area.

I suggested going for a hike and then breakfast. My friends came back with a brunch only offer. Their idea was way better. This place is delicious. The pancakes were Cakey and tasty. The cinnamon roll is as big as the plate it's served on. It's righteous. The fish and chips were amazing too. The service was also impressive. I would definitely come back. You would've never expected such a charming place in a somewhat run downed shopping center.

Looking for a place for breakfast for the wife and I today...new to the area...I am so happy we found Gem....we both had eggs with bacon ...toast....the food was excellent and the service as well.....I wondered why we did not come earlier....we will definitely come back for dinner ......like the ratings say...it is a Gem....

The cinnamon roll was huge and covered in delicious icing! Also had a classic breakfast platter with eggs home fries and sausage with wheat toast, the home fries being the standout: crispy with the skins on . Everything else was good too. Fiancé had a huge chocolate chip pancake...HUGE! Large menu selection, very reasonable prices too, good portions. The Gem is located in an inconspicuous shopping center corner, and it's pretty darn small inside, maybe 8-10 tables, which could be the only downside. May get busy at rush times, but there were plenty of open tables today on a Thursday afternoon. Also more cozy booths would do a nice touch rather than the sort of plain tables/space. I would say it is a "gem" because of the food, but atmosphere left a little something to be desired. Hey maybe that's what they're going for. Food is good so works for me.

Absolutely delicious! If your eyes are bigger than your stomach and need a place that doesn't hurt the wallet, this is the place for you! Homemade everything! Even the "Fajito" and mix between a fajita and burrito... They give Chipotle a run for their money! They get 5 stars for a reason!

My bf and I have become regulars here. I checked yelp today to see how they're page has been doing and it's great to see other yelpers have tried out the Gem and loved it. Since I first wrote my review there were only 6 others and now it's 109! It speaks volumes in regards to their culinary skills. Since my last review, we've been going to the Gem for breakfast and man oh man is it delicious. Their pancakes are divine-- fluffy, moist, yet crunchy on the outside. Just soooo good! I'm even amazed at how delicious their toast and butter is. I wonder if they churn their own butter cuz man I have never had such amazing toast in my life! Same goes with their home fries--- just fricken good. I still need to try their stuffed French toast, crepes, and other breakfast items... It's so hard to keep coming back to ordering the same breakfast meal since it's just too good I need to keep having it again and again. I love the Gem, too bad it's a Monday and their closed cuz I am craving them food right now.

Excellent breakfast, and lunch. I have been here twice, once for breakfast, and once for lunch. A hidden gem for sure. Breakfast was better here than places I've spent twice as much money at. Having lunch now. What a winner! Very clean with great service!

So I was in area looking for something to eat and decided to go on yelp and see if there was any recommendations I can try out because I was looking for something healthy and I came across this restaurant. The fact that this place has 5 stars from 90 something reviews must means this place must be really really good. So I decided to try the gem chicken wrap and OMG that wrap was delicious, it had a lot of different veggies which I love and also had a little spice in it from the peppers ( it was a nice balance). My order was to go but I'm definitely going back and sit in and maybe try the fish wrap.

I'm glad I found this spot while I was in the area. The Cuban sandwich and soup of the day (tomato basil) were done very right and menu options were great. The name speaks for itself this spot is truly a gem. Update: you need to try their homemade cinnamon bun

Had a birthday cake made to order it was the hit of the party. What party have you attended where guest had 2nd & 3rds? Cake was light and fluffy strawberries were fresh and the frosting was whipped cream. Again made from scratch. Price was 1.75 per person more than fare for what you get to take home. They even done wedding cakes to order here also;while there leave with a container Of their home made soup you won't regret it This small restaurant will surprise you at the variety and quality of there food

The name says it all. This place truly is a gem! Nice and clean classic eatery with a mom and pop atmosphere. Their menu includes everything from quesadillas to chicken Parmesan sandwich. Everything is homemade. Lunch: Brisket sandwich- this was on the specials. The brisket was cooked to perfection! Just enough barbecue sauce to compliment the taste. Steak wrap - a bit of spicy with all the components a wrap should come with. Portion is huge! It was delicious and hearty. Dessert: Salted caramel cheesecake - if you typically don't like cheesecake, you should still consider ordering this one! A great mix of sweet and salty. The best part of this place is the service. The cook came out to say hi after knowing it's our first time here. Server broke down the menu & gave us great recommendations. 10/10 :)

The (Hidden) GEM Eatery: I've had lunch here two days in a row!! It's my new addiction! The staff is friendly and there when you need them but don't hover. They always have some good tunes on. MUSIC HAD ME JAMMING! Reasonable prices and parking is good but the food is incredible! I got the jerk chicken and it was amazing!! 10/10 would recommend.

Second experience at gem. Just as incredible as the first! Our food was perfectly complimented with our amazing server Mike. Being in the restaurant biz for years has given me a good eye for service, and he really goes above and beyond for his guests. My boyfriend ordered an iced coffee. Mike informed us that they only have hot coffee, so he literally refrigerated the coffee for us. Typical servers would simply pour hot coffee over ice cubes ( I know this because this is what I would do.... Sorry) but really he made our experience so much better. We also ease dropped with him at his other tables, I was truly floored. So polite and genuine, but still remembering he has a job to do ( listened to him incredibly upsell a large party a few desserts). Mike 5 stars as well as the food!!!

This place is GREAT!!!! So I went there today at lunch because a buddy of mine rants and ravs about it all the time and I'm new to the area so I gave it a shot!!!! What a pleasant suprise, great service, very friendly staff, and amazing amazing food!!! You won't regret it and when I officially move down to Florida it could possibly be my number 1 spot!!!!

Came here for breakfast based on yelp reviews and O.M.G. Best breakfast ever. The home fries are fresh, crispy, and delightfully seasoned! The morning gem sandwich was b-a-n-a-n-a-s! The pancakes are thick, but fluffy and incredibly light, go down so easily. The overall experience was nice. Felt like home, extremely clean tables and floors. Staff very sweet and accommodating even with my 3 children in tow. Not sure if I like that I found this "gem" because I'll be putting on a few pounds for sure! Ha.

You have to look for this place, and hard. Even then you won't find it easily. But once you do you won't regret it! First the obvious. It's in a strip plaza that isn't the best to look at. You may even wonder why you're there. If you see an Irish bar you're getting warmer. The entrance is almost nondescript but once you enter its the cutest little joint. You'll be promptly greeted and welcomed by the friendly staff (owner?). I had the Mac and cheese and it was amazing. I mean serious. Mac and cheese. I also had the garlic and rosemary fries. Yup. Garlic. Rosemary. Fries. My wife had the lentil soup and it was great too. She couldn't stop raving about the brownie Sunday. Picturesque and delicious. The menu is diverse and well be back again and again to keep on trying new stuff. A recommended spot!

I've been here several times, and every time the food is perfect. You can't go wrong with any burger on the menu, and the wings will keep me coming back weekly. The place is small, and not for large groups. The service is nice and friendly. Definitely a great spot for take-out. Make sure to call ahead with your order depending on how busy they are the order will take anywhere from 15-35 min, but the quality of the food is well worth the wait.

First time. Excellent and will return. We took our 93 year old neighbor out tonight. She had chicken tenders. They were fresh and juicy fried in pankos. Daughter had the 10 inch pizza which she inhaled. All fresh ingredients. Syd had the fajito platter which was a different take on it but very good. Its like a fajita salad. Should have taken pictures. I started with there homemade split pea and ham soup. Yum almost like mamas, not to thick and not watered down. I had there cuban sandwich. Very good. We will return.

Absolutely delicious! We ordered the smothered French toast with cream cheese and fruit, cinnamon bun, one pancake cooked with bacon in it and a side of home fries. Our favorite was the cinnamon role and pancake but it was all delicious. The one pancake was huge and didn't even need syrup it was that good. They gave us butter and that was enough to make it tasty. We will definitely be going back for dinner soon. I like that they serve breakfast or diner items at all times. Everything was fresh and very had an original flavor. Food came out pretty fast even though all tables were full of guests. The place is small so seating was limited. When we walked in there was only a two top available which was perfect for us two. The employees were very cheerful, helpful and attentive.

What a great find! In a really sketchy shopping plaza but once you walk in the staff is nice and the dining area clean. I went in this morning and no one else was there so it felt a little akward, but it IS a weekday so kind of expected for a mom and pop kinda place. I ordered the stuffed french toast which technically isn't stuffed but rather smothered with creamy, sugary goodness. It was amazing! I couldn't finish but wanted to force myself.. it was that good. It might be way too sweet for some people so it might even be good to share with someone along side a more savory dish. My son got pancakes and eggs. Sneaking some bites off his plate the pancakes were perfect.. just like my mama makes; fluffy yet golden and crispy on the outside. And the eggs were actually real! That's sad that I'd even have to say that but sadly most places don't have it. One negative though.. after reading the reviews on yelp I decided to get a fresh baked cinnamon roll to-go since I wanted to try it and didn't know when I'd be back next. It's a huge roll but that was the only plus. I couldn't even cut it with my fork. I really believe it was a day or two old roll with fresh warm icing poured on top. Ehhh.. dissapointing after such a great meal. I'll still be back but wont be getting the cinnamon rolls that's for sure.

The food wasn't bad, it was good, but basic. I had mahi mahi sandwich (I asked first if it had been frozen and they said no) and my boyfriend got buffalo a chicken sandwich which he enjoyed. The decor is very generic. We were surprised by the amount of items they offer on the menu.

Truly a gem in Margate! Fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, and friendly service. Warm, inviting, and clean. Highly recommended.

Found out about this place because of yelp. I live around the corner but never would have known its there because it's tucked away in a non-description plaza far from the street. That being said... great first experience. Cuban Sandwhich is probably the best I've ever had and I've lived in South Florida for 16yrs. My 3 yr old loves pancakes and this monster pancake did not disappoint. I was honestly suspect when it came out so thick and crusty looking, but it was deliciously delicate and fluffy and my son loved it. Not sure how they make it so thick but light and fluffy, but my kid liked it and that's all that matters to me. My wife went for the stuffed French toast with strawberry sauce. She said it was great but she wished she had asked for strawberry sauce on the side because the combination of the cream cheese filling and the heavy handed strawberry topping made for a sugar/sweet soup that kind of swamped the toast. She had no complaints about the flavors. We'll definitely be back. They're closed Sundays and Mondays

Food was delicious - homemade pastas and desserts. Service was even better. Family run which is nice to see. Small place, not the best atmosphere. Just not a whole lot to it. Not in a great location - strip mall. That being said, still can't wait to go back. Note to the owners: please get rid of your styrofoam take out containers. Horrible for the environment and your food is so amazing, it deserves a better container!! Ps if I am being super picky: thought chicken frances was too salty. I am not usually sensitive to salt.

Our family decided to check this out after reading a lot of great reviews. After passing it twice without seeing it, Amanda took our phone call and directed us. It's tucked back in a big empty Plaza, so we weren't expecting to find it there. Wow! Are we glad we went! Tiny and very neatly kept, we were greeted by Amanda's beautiful smile and excellent service. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner all day and the choices varied greatly. We were pleased to have pulled pork nachos, spicy shrimp, and linguine Alfredo. Owner Tony came out to greet us and we had a very nice conversation. Every dish was delicious! Our son is excited to go back for breakfast very soon and I am looking forward to their homemade cinnamon buns... and we are all sure that whatever we order will be excellent! Make sure to find the Gem and find yourself in a terrific little spot!

Decided to try this place for the first time recently. I got their cuban sandwich, and it was very good. It's a small place, and they seemed to know their regular customers well. They're very friendly, and the service was good.

This place was awesome. The food hit the spot, the service the best the chef came out and spoke with us. Not to mention we had homemade fresh bread. If you want to eat good and enjoy great food and service come here. This place is above average!!!! Love love this place

This is my favorite restaurant ever!! I love how the food is homemade and it never makes me sick afterwards. Me and my boyfriend have made this our monthly place to go to. Everything I've tried I have not been disappointed! I've had the chicken fingers, mostly all the breakfast including the pancakes with white chocolate chips (yum!) and the stuffed French toast, to die for! I've also had some of their lunch specials, like the burgers! I've never had such a delicious burger like the one at gems, you make it how you want and they truly out their heart into it! I would recommend and I have recommended this place to EVERYONE. So good!!!! I love gems!!

Garlic blue cheese bacon burger was to die for. Bacon egg and cheese breakfast wrap also delish. And we finished it off with a cinnamon roll. We're stuffed, satisfied, and need to be rolled out of here. Location is in a plaza... hidden. Plaza doesn't seem "nice" but once you enter, the vibe in the place is home cooking friendly goodness.

Always fantastic food and service, couldn't be happier with this place!! The Cuban sandwich is one of my favorite in all of South Florida and believe me I've tried alot. Breakfast is top notch aswell. No matter what time of the day you come in, the food is going to be on point!!

  • Ekim E.

This is a great place. Everything is made on site. Homemade soup, salad dressing, desserts and fresh entrees. The fresh bread is a fantastic starter followed by a salad with some of the best Blue Cheese dressing ever. The steak, with house seasoning and cooked over a grill, was cooked exactly the way I asked (medium rare - more towards the rare side). Then the dessert. I was so full I could not eat it at the restaurant so I asked for them to make it to go. The Key Lime Cheese Cake was a great late night snack.

Tried the Gem for dinner tonight. First visit and won't be the last ! Absolutely fantastic, top notch, fresh food of the highest quality. I can't wait to go back again and again. I don't live close but I will drive the distance. The prices are very reasonable. I have been off of Las Olas Blvd and spent 4x the amount and it didn't come close to how wonderful this food was. Inside is super clean and decorated very nicely. The selection was large and varied and the service was excellent. But the food, oh my gosh the food. I can't wait to try the cinnamon bun. Hidden away in a little plaza, just like a hidden gem. I hope they open another one closer to us some day.

This place is a tiny hole in the wall in an unimpressive strip mall in Margate. Nothing special except the food is great and the staff couldn't be nicer. Excellent food at very reasonable prices (I usually go for breakfast but for lunch try the pulled pork sandwich). My only complaint is that service is friendly but slow--everything is made to order. So bring a book or your Ipad, because the wait is worth it.

    (4)
  • Anthony J.

The Gem is awesome. Fresh foods, homemade - true Mom and Pop. Owners are great and friendly. Food is delish. Some times a little slow because of the crowd and small kitchen, but it's worth the wait. Love going for lunch and having breakfast. Cheesy grits with jalapeños is a must!

  • James C.

Wow! This place is truly a GEM. Tucked away in an old strip mall on the corner of margate blvd and 441(state rd 7). In between a thrift store and an Irish bar that I'm not sure is open, this GEM EATERY has what it takes to be a MUST find and experience feel. The menu is a well rounded from breakfast to dinner with kids meals that are sure to please not only them but you as well. Very well decorated for this two person team that makes a prepares everything on the menu. Look at the pictures, the gem salad was very flavorful with their homemade salad dressings, the Mac & Cheese was really good as well as the Cuban sandwich. The desserts are made fresh daily, so if you see something on yelp today it maybe gone, it's so DAM GOOD. The cinnamon bun you see was the BEST I've ever had. Yes it's warm and made with Carmel and lots of topping. I'm going to be a regular. And since they do not advertise I'm happy to yelp the facts. Try it and you will be yelping you did. They too are proud of there yelp status.

Large amount of good food for cheap price. Only downside is that I was in a coma for the rest of the day after eating this food, which makes me suspicous of MSG.

The food here is great. The restaurant is small and cozy if you're eating in. It truly is a little gem in Margate. I have eaten here several times and have not yet once been disappointed with anything I ordered. The menu is great and has so many choices so sometimes it'll take you a while to decide what you want but you will be happy with your choice. The wings are fantastic, the burgers are delicious and the breakfast food is great. If you live in the area and haven't been, put Gem Eatery on your list! You won't be disappointed!

Fantastic little spot for some yumminess! I enjoyed a breakfast on a weekend. Don't let the size of the place fool you. They have a amazing cinnamon bun, but ask for it to come out after your breakfast or you'll run out of room in your belly! I had a bacon cheddar omelet with well done home fries and wheat toast. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. My girlfriend said the coffee was great and on the way out got a strawberry lemonade which was awesome too! What a great "hole in the wall".

  • Joanne T.

Came here today with my brother to come try this place out. It sure didn't disappoint. I ordered the chicken fingers with fries and mac & cheese and it was delicious! i couldn't finish everything because the mac & cheese was so filling, so i took it back home and finished it off there. nice little spot in margate and kind of small, but the service was great and the owner was quite friendly. I'll be back to try the breakfast menu sometime soon!

Now I see where they got the name. This place is amazing. I've been there twice and every time the service and food have been excellent. The decor is very homey and inviting. This is family owned so you can tell they love doing what they do. Try the omelet with potatoes I guarantee you will love it.

Very good local restaurant. I gave them 5 stars for the level of service, quality of food and menu selection. Please note that I did not consider atmosphere or location because that is not what this place is about. I had the lentil soup, their fresh bread with olive oil / garlic on the side, and shrimp scampi. Everything was very good. I would love to come back and have breakfast. It seems like they have a great recipe for success. I would suggest to ownership that they find a new location where they could add more tables, in a slightly hipper area with some grit and take the interior decor up several notches (I am thinking Edison bulbs, distressed wood tables, wood floors, and lots of wrought iron. That is a sure way to increase revenue at a substantial multiple. Kudos to you for doing such a good job with what you had to start with! I am a fan!

Husband and wife are the chefs and owners. Doesn't look like much from the outside and it's a small place, but it is absolutely amazing. The Gem salad was bursting with flavors that were geniously put together. My boyfriend has the pulled pork nachos which was to die for. Then the flourless chocolate cake was like no other. It was so smooth, creamy, and rich. We can't wait to go back and try other me u items. They cater too.

Every breakfast item is great. Had the eggs, bacon, home fries and pancakes. Homefries were larger pieces than I typically like but were perfectly seasoned and crispy. Pancakes were thick but so fluffy. Save room to end with the Cinnamon Roll! It was wow!

You must try The Gem Eatery in Margate, it is located off of 441 in a non descript shopping center. The food is homemade and tastes delicious. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner food. One of my favorite meals is the fajito, which is a combination fajita and burrito. Large portions so you will probably have to take home the extras. They also do catering. Definitely give them a try.

Yup, a 5 star review and I'd have given this eatery 10 if I could. Without question the best food in the area. Super friendly people, great items to choose from, a little bit for everyone. Having been there once a week for the past three for Breakfast, lunch and dinner I can say you can't go wrong.

Truly a hidden gem. Would have been 5 stars but took a little linger than it should have. Excellent food though.

    (4)
  • Sandra Y.

Disappointed! I ordered a take out order so maybe it's better eating in since there were so many great reviews. I ordered french toast with a side of hash browns. They sounded busy and said it would be about a 45 minute wait. I was fine with the wait thinking I would have a great meal. I think I could make a slightly better french toast at home and the home fries weren't anything special. Overall, just disappointed with my to-go order but I might try eating in to see if this was a one time fluke.

Fantastic find. The food was very fresh and delicious. I had a chicken and spinach pizza. I couldn't stop telling my wife how good my meal was. The staff was friendly and the chef came out and asked how our meal was. I would come hear all the time if I lived closer.

5 STARS. Everything is home made and delicious. Fresh spinach, mushroom, onion omelet is the best! Grilled chicken with mango salsa special was so good I came back twice last week for more. Lovely service and homey atmosphere. Highly recommend!

  • Ralph C.

Have been here twice and will return ,the Cuban sandwich is one of the best I ever had. The fish wrap is huge and so very tasty. The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars is because of the long wait for the food. The first time I excused them because they said the prep guy did not show up but the second time there was only one other table taken and it still took 35 minutes to get the Cuban. Having said that the food is so good I will put up with the long wait

  • Tara G.

Food was exactly what we need American comfort food! Clean and friendly inside food was top quality and cooked wonderfully, comfort food without the heavy greasy feel. The homemade mac and cheese is to die for! And as my Husband (from Brazil) said the cafe con leche is the best he has had since he has left Brazil (and he is super picky)! Located in a run down shopping center you would never know this place really is a Gem!

I have been twice in the same week. The first time I went was with a friend. We got dinner. I had the best pasta in the world! It was spectacular! I got a root beer which is special crafted line of sodas - it was awesome! My friend and I got a cinnamon bun to share and it was SPECTACULAR! I absolutely love this little place. The food is good, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is nice, it's clean and tidy. Just an all around great place to eat.

This little place is all that the previous reviews promised, tucked away and difficult to find. Our family of four enjoyed breakfast and everyone went away pleased. The cinnamon roll was delicious! Between the four of us we tried eggs, pancakes and a couple of different breakfast sandwiches. Everything was prepared as you would expect. Will be back!

  • Brad S.

Ive been coming here since they opened. I've never had a disappointing meal. They have a great Cuban sandwich. Everything is homemade, fresh. The owner/chef comes out to greet me and asks how my meal was. Everytime. Menu has all-American fare, with some nice twists, and he will work with you on any modifications. Support your local owned business that does it right!

I have eaten here twice, and have only come for breakfast so far. The food is delicious and fresh to order, customer service is good. The cinnamon roll is huge and yummy. I would recommend the breakfast here, Its a hidden gem because i almost missed it.

Just awesome!!! Everything was amazing!!! I'm pregnant and I think that qualifies me as a great critique of food! OMG the cinnamon bun is a SIN!!! The Cuban sandwich made me think I was in little Havana! The service is amazing and the price doesn't bother me a bit; Beyond what I pay for!!!! No need to sell this place too much just go see for yourself!! They also cater!

I tried this place because of yelp and it was amazing! We tried all different things, chicken wings, potato skins, a burger, grilled chicken and their mac n cheese. Everything came out just as it was ordered, cooked perfectly and delicious. We took a cinnamon bun home and it was the best I ever had. And, to top it all off...the restaurant is IMMACULATE. I'm big on cleanliness and it was cozy and probably the cleanest restaurant I've ever seen.

  • Anthony R.

I went there with some friends and we had a nice time. The staff was very nice and the owners came and talked with us. The dinner was good and the restaurant was very clean and pleasant. They said they have been opened for about a year and a half. The food was good, but I am not sure it is the best value for the money. I guess it depends on what you order from the menu. Over all it was a good experience.

  • sean p.

Wow this place is fantastic. Best pancakes I've ever had hands down. They are completely different than any I've ever had. Don't even need syrup. Cheese grits have a smidge of diced jalapeños. Perfect amount of heat. Kudo's to the chef.

Definitely worth the time. Had the meatloaf special but will be back for the much celebrated Cuban sandwich. Service was great. The owner/cook even came out to chat. Do not be discouraged by location or lack of diners.

My hairdresser recommended this place and I was soooo impressed! What a Gem it is! Great, immaculate place and the food was so fresh and homemade! I am happy to say we have a new spot since my office is 5 minutes away!!! Fajito was delicious and HUGE!! I was full half way through but kept eating it because it tasted so good! The salsa was yummy too! Will definitely eat here again!

This is such a great find! Thanks to my honey, who's been talking about trying this place for months. We did and can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. We visited with our good friend and tried a few dishes. All were amazing. I had the grilled cheese and pancakes... and let me tell you, Wow! The pancake was the best I have ever had... It was like a soft birthday cake. If my stomach didn't stop me I would of eaten more than just half. My friends had the pulled pork sandwich and the fish and chips... Their plates were empty and had big smiles on their faces. They also had to have the famous cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting . Wow wow wow! It was huge and had to be taken home because it couldn't be devoured in one sitting. I had a taste the next day and it was delicious to say the least. The chef came out to say hello and I immediately gave him a thumbs up because my mouth was to full to thank him for a delicious meal. I love local family owned business. I can't wait to visit and eat again! This is a must for everyone who loves good food and amazing desserts. Oh and it's very clean and they actually put extra napkins on the table!

Saw this place on yelp and decided to try it a few weeks ago. Today is my fourth time back and I have no complaint at all. The food is delicious and made from scratch, the price is also fair, and the portion is huge. Try this place out you won't regret it.

Great food! Always hard to choose between the pancakes and stuffed french toast. Food is prepared fresh so it won't be fast, but the wait is worth it! Staff is extremely friendly too. Great breakfast place.

My wife and I were looking for a breakfast place in the area so we checked this place out because it had great reviews. It did not disappoint. My wife loved the stuffed French toast. It was sweet and delicious. I ordered an omelette and home fries, both of which were delicious. We will definitely go back we are wanting to try their lunch and dinner. The staff was also really nice.
