Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Sweat & Spicy Bacon Burger will add extra 1080 calories in your diet so skip that as well. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

We found Burdines on a whim thanks to Yelp and were so so glad we did. Just north of the Seven Mile Bridge and tucked away on the intercoastal, Burdines looks like your typical dive bar/getaway in the Keys but it's that and so much more. Really varied, unique menu separates it from the rest. Nice beer selection too. Wife got the patty melt, loved it. I had the tuna melt (made from shredded ahi tuna) and it was really great. Their basket of fries could serve six people. Did not resist the fried key lime pie. It was ... interesting. In a good way. So many other items on the menu I wanted to try. If you're on your way down to the Keys/coming back from the Keys, stop by. You'll love it.

MUST HAVES: ICED TEA, HUSHPUPPIES, KEY LIME PIE. YOU'RE WELCOME Hungry, sunburnt and just off the boat (fishing for bugs all day)... we were in need of something that tasted good that wasn't going to be a disappointment. Thanks to previous reviews in yelp, we decide to give this place a try. To our surprise it was extremely yummy and tasteful. Very cute surroundings all open seating. And by open I mean just that there are no walls it is up on a deck overlooking the marina which is cute and quaint and doesn't reek of gasoline. The name of the place looks to have belonged to the original owners that are/were here for many years. based on the size of the palm tree dedicated to "Mr & Mrs Burdine" it's been there at least 50 years but then again I am NOT a tree expert. We proceeded to seat ourselves.. which is the norm here. Picnic tables and wooden stools at high tops is the norm don't expect cozy cushions. We sat down at a 6 top in a corner with a nice breeze. It is all outside there's no air conditioning but not to worry, the 500 fans keep the room cool that are continually spinning. And yes, they're the quiet ones they don't make any noise. Eventually our waitress came over and gave us our drinks which was ice tea (you must have it it's fantastic). It's so good (and they know it) they bring you a pitcher of it. Personally they should just bring you the pitcher and a straw. Very family style type restaurant everything is paper plates and plastic cups. The menu was one page two sided with choices of everything from deep fried to fresh salads. Go for the AHI. Not just because it's fresh that because they actually know how to cook it here because they do it a lot. You can have all the good fish you want in the world but if they don't know how to cook it it's not worth the time. According to our unamused waitress, this place is famous for their chili burger. I passed. HUSHPUPPIES. ..just do it. If you don't like them, I'll reimburse you. Get over yourself if your scared. Live a little. Does it really sound frightening with the name hush puppy? okay good talk. The portions are more girl size** then big hungry man size** so make sure you order accordingly. **Girl size - I eat more than once a day sometimes in public. I'm not embarrassed to put away my entire meal in front of certain company but this place won't make me look like a pig if I clear my plate. Most comfortable here with my brothers or someone I don't care to impress. I will be full when done. **Big hungry man size- Approx 200 to 260lbs, has gone all day hasn't had anything to eat and starving. Doesn't wanna wait. Will clear his plate and yours, and if he could, that person at the table behind you. All the food we had was good. Nothing to rave about but a first choice in Marathon. Seasoned fine, a little greasy but overall it was satisfying and it was also inexpensive for the 2 of us. Plenty of iced tea (free refills i think..didnt care) desert and even a couple appetizers we only spent about 50 bucks. The wait staff has been here for a while. Thdy weren't rude but they weren't overly excited to be there either. Then again I probably wouldn't be too excited to be working in 90 degree heat with heavy humidity either but hey , its what I signed up for. I'd bet money that tourists irritate them so advice- don't act like one. They (the staff ) all got along like siblings..when siblings are getting along, and didn't step on each others toes. They also seem to communicate and support one another whenever it got a little busy. Then again I wouldnt be that joyful to be around either if I was outside all day sweating in 90 degree heat with awful humidity. So if you're willing to sit back and be casual, not in a hurry and have patience this is your place. If you don't like heat don't go here because you have no room to complain about it. In addition if you have kids that don't like the heat please do everybody a favor and don't bring them with you. Expect non chatty servers, good prices, decent food, great atmosphere, better view, and great key lime pie. You should check it out. We will be back.

We went for lunch. It is outdoor dining upstairs. We had the bacon cheeseburger, fries, Mahi sandwich & cheese hush puppies. Fries were great, one order was enough for all 4 of us. The burgers were dry. Our server didn't ask how we wanted them cooked, so they were cooked medium well (it states on the menu that they are cooked that way. Our server was ok but was not very engaging & had a fake smile. Maybe she was having a bad day or this type of work isn't her. Typical seafood shack on the water.

1st: took about 10 mins for someone to come and ask for drinks... 2nd: after finally ordering our food, we had to wait another 40 mins or so to get only a chicken sandwich and french fries... 3rd: people next table who came after we did had their full orders way before than we did... 4th: they need to hire younger and faster people to attend to tables 5th: and definitely they need to have a smile on their faces!!! ...at least the beer is good... cheers!

FANTASTIC fresh made, in-house Key Lime Pie! Ohhh Myyy Goshhh!!! Your taste buds will love you for it. It was our first stop after sailing in from the Dominican Republic, so after 5 days of sailing on a 39' sailboat, it was kinda rough walking up the stairs. I wanted a rum drink but they only served beer & wine, which just wasn't what I wanted. All in all however, it was a good time.

Great food great service and a great price , off the path but worth it!! The wraps were awesome and beer ice cold!

  • Denise M.

Fried key lime pie is amazing! Fried shrimp Plate, hush puppies were great! Bacon cheeseburger was huge. Grilled chicken sandwich was also huge, onions really made it. Breezy and scenic on channel at marina. Worth the drive off the main road! Enjoy! :)

Great view ... This is casual outdoor dining at its best. Welcoming staff. Menu is simple and inexpensive, but portions are huge. Perfect way to end a day at the beach or pool.

3.5 It's the Great Wind Game! Watch while your hot, much anticipated food is brought to your table in flimsy cardboard boxes. Marvel at the decision to add a piece of wax paper underneath your burger or sandwich, so that when you bring it to your lips, it will blow away. Hours of amusement while you figure out clever new ways to hold your napkin, your food and your plate, all at the same time!!! Staff seems not poor, but overworked. Food is very good, but simple. Fries were tasty if a little greasy. A very nice place to enjoy a casual meal.

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, mom and I found the best lunch place in Marathon! I wanted a waterfront restaurant, and this had good reviews. There's no advertising on the street so it's easy to miss, but if you turn onto 15th street & follow it to the end, you'll arrive at Burdines. It's located near a marina with several boats, and it's on the water & close to the open ocean but not quite. The dining area is all outside & located on the 2nd floor of the restaurant. The service was fabulous! They brought our iced tea & even a little pitcher in case we were extra thirsty. We ordered the hush puppies, which were fresh & came with a raspberry jalapeno sauce. We also ordered the bacon cheeseburger- by far the best burger in the keys!! The chikitiki chicken sandwich was super tasty too- the jerk marinade was very unique. The fries were good but not as great as other reviews touted. All in all, this was a great waterfront lunch spot in the keys... I'd definitely come back. :)

Our waitress was amazing, we brought our own catch of the day and it was cooked perfectly! The atmosphere was extremely relaxed and the view was incredible!

This place is a Florida Keys classic. We absolutely love it. On Friday nights they have live performer. The food is excellent. Think of anything that you would want to have in the Florida Keys and they have it at its highest level, fish bread, mahi mahi sandwich, conch fritters, etcetera. Nice cold beer and nice atmosphere right on the water.

  • Bentley W.

Pretty good food, super-friendly staff, awesome dockside atmosphere. As we found with every place in Marathon, the service was extremely friendly from the seasoned Australian hostess to the young waitress who waited on us. Food is average bar fare, but the upper deck dining with a view is worth checking out. Decent.

We learned about Burdines from the concierge at our resort so we went for lunch one day. We sat at a table with an umbrella but there are also seats up at the bar and out in the sun. Service is efficient and a little friendly, not overly familiar though. You do have to climb a fairly long flight of stairs up to the restaurant. The view is of the canal but if you look to the right, it's the Atlantic Ocean - beautiful! I had a fish wrap with a sun-dried tomato pesto dressing and my husband had the tuna steak. Portions are ample and delicious. The fried key lime pie is also huge and very yummy! We will definitely go back next time we're in Marathon.

  • Tim P.

Very "key's life" atmosphere, we sat on the second level, looking down on the channel. Breezy day as the sun began to set, greeted timely and served with a smile. Best beer selection I've seen between the mainland and Key West, all in bottles no drafts. Food was on par with the surroundings, nothing gastocrazy but solid. Prices seemed good and live music to boot.

  • Barb S.

I love this hideaway! Great views, larger than average serving of wine and great shrimp. I normally don't eat fried food, but it is true what they say about the fries is true. They are amazingly tasty! Definitely going back!

  • Magda C.

what a fun surprise! We went there thx to Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. We couldn't find it at first and almost landed in the restaurant nearby, but then we turned back and followed the sign on the blue boat. The place looks suspicious at first, with some fish stands and fridges and the boat petrol station (!) down there. But right after you climb the stairs it is a charming cosy place with tikkis and soft lighting, very relaxing. Easy flair with decent choice of beer and wine. Our burgers were fresh, delicious and plentiful. Big portions. French fries were amazing and enormous, we took one portion for 5 ppl and it was sufficient. We left with full stomachs and happy thoughts. Unfortunately, we did not have any space left for dessert, maybe next time!

    (4)
  • Helen H.

Definitely one of the best burgers and fries ever! Turn off of A1 onto 15th st and you won't be disappointed that you did! I read another review that said you didn't need ketchup on the fries and I laughed at that but boy were they ever right on! Fab meal, nice, nice waitress, and cool upper outside casual dining. FL keys spot all around.

  • Elle D.

The drive up is questionable, but the food just blows you away! Jennifer was so knowledgable and gave us out-of-towners some great advice. The sesame tuna might be the best choice I've ever made. The key lime pie was phenomenal. Great job, Burdines!

This is our go to spot when we are in marathon. You can't beat the view and the food is as fresh as it gets. My husband is in love with the baconed wrapped shrimps d I prefer the shrimp quesadilla with black beans and don't forget the fried key lime pie. We sure do love it!

My family and I have loved Burdines for years! The fried key lime pie is amazing. Awesome atmosphere and beautiful views, great live music. Definitely do not pass on the fries, they are amazing. This is a family tradition whenever we're in Marathon. We would definitely recommend this to anyone who'll be in the area. Do not miss this place.

The reviews where great, I even overlooked the terrible manners from the person I talked to on the phone to make sure they where open and they had the menu items I was interested in dining. The person on the phone got frustrated because I was driving and the background noise from driving so he just hung up. We still made it to the restaurant, we where on the way to Miami where my partner had to catch a flight, but we could still eat for 30 minutes. We ordered our food, a burger and a tuna sandwich, very simple dishes, as appetizers we got the chips and salsa and blackened shrimp. it took them more than 60 minutes to get this very simple order out to us, by that time we rushed through our meal and I even overlooked the fact that part of my sandwich was undercooked. For the price that we paid it did not come with fries so we ordered that. In total, a burger, a sandwich, fries, tortilla chips with salsa and blacked shrimp came to about $50, the only thing that was good where the fries. The burger was nothing to be impressed about, without anything else it was overpriced and I could go just about anywhere else and get more flavour. My partner could not get through half of the sandwich. My sandwich as I mentioned was undercooked, the greens where wet and so the bread quickly became soggy, at the end I could not get through more than a third of the sandwich before I gave up. The blackned shrimp was fresh, but again we where not surprised, it was rather overpriced for the portion. The chips and salsa where awful, the chips had no flavor and where a bit stale, the salsa was fresh however, but a very far cry from original. The only good item in our entire order was really the fries, which had very good flavor. I really tried to hard to enjoy this place, the view was pretty good, but what epically slow progress on such a simple order, 60 minutes, where where there for 80 minutes when we only planned to be there for 30 and then had to rush to Miami to catch a flight, not able to do anything else. Maybe this was just not their day, its still not an excuse, I will definitely not stop in this location.

Thank you fellow yelpers! We were in marathon and my boys wanted a good burger, so I yelped and found Burdines. It is located in the water, gps will screw up the directions. Make a left after the blue boat as a previous yelper stated. Don't be discouraged by the exterior of this place, it doesn't look inviting, but it's casual layed back great views and clean. We ordered hush puppies for app. Served with a raspberry jalapeños sauce. The hush puppies had melted cheddar over it along with dipping this sauce.. It's was soo good! We ordered burgers. I had the Swiss angus burger. It was thick, juicy and cooked just right. We ordered fries.. OMG serves 4 ppl easy. THEN... after reading reviews all of you were right.. We ordered the fried key lime pie !!!! Served with a key lime cream cheese drizzle and cinnamon ... The 3 of us shared it. It was HEAVENLY!! We will be back!

Jessica at the bar is phenomenal. The beers are icy cold and the food is hot and fresh. I think the portions are large so we share. Live music done nights and awesome sunsets - goes without saying - get the fries :)

A great locals type of place right off the overseas highway by the water (of course). The hush puppies covered in cheese were good, but it would have been better if the cheese was melted instead of cold shredded cheese piled on. The fish reuben had a ton of delicious sautéed onions, and the deep fried key lime pie was a perfect way to end our fat-filled dinner. It was a windy night so it wasn't the greatest night to be eating under a tiki hut, but it was a solid meal and I'd love to come back my next time down here and eat when the weather is a bit nicer.

Fantastic! Phenomenal food and service! Stone Crab Soup and a Cheeseburger in Paradise! Saw Manatees in the water while we dined!

Great lemonade!! Best burger I have had to date in the keys! One order of fries can feed four! The fried key lime pie is special too! Driving to key west? Make this a stop before the 7 mile bridge ! This is the most important thing!!! At night the biting bugs rule! They hand out bug spray! So make it a day visit or not just be sure to stop! The Florida keys aqueduct authority eats here! And I have no idea what that means.

3rd time, maybe the 4th. Every time, every meal has been just XLNT. Wonderful place for real food for good prices. The fresh fish, onion rings & burgers are some of the best anywhere. Will keep returning!

The first time we attempted to eat here we showed up at 9:15p and the were unfortunately already closed. But we are so glad we came back! The food here was excellent!! I had the ChikiTiki Chicken which had amazing flavor to it! My husband had Three Cheese Steak which was also very good. You could tell the fries were freshly made. Then I still made room for the Fried Key Lime Pie which was excellent!! The service and the view were great. Definitely a must while in the Keys just make sure you get the before 9pm!

Food was delicious and staff was very nice. Perfect low key atmosphere for a family dinner. While the food was served on paper plate it really didn't matter because it was seriously that good. I definitely plan on going again.

Hush Puppies had cheddar cheese inside, YUM! French fries were delightful- super tasty! Great beer selection...not so much with the wine, but the food was good enough that it was ok. Serving size on wine made up for it :) had fried mahi and put malt vinegar on it... Yummy! Husband had bacon-wrapped BBQ shrimp. Would return!

So, the food was pretty good, and extremely fast the night we went in, but how do you call a place a "Bar and Grille" and you only serve beer and wine??? That doesn't make much sense to me...maybe it's a Florida thing that I don't know about, but in New England, when a place has the word Bar in the name, they serve liquor without question.

Excellent service and very good food. We arrived 30 minutes before closing unaware that they closed soon. The staff did not mention it at all, was very friendly and took great care of us. We had the tuna steak sandwich and the tuna melt, sharing a huge basket of fries. Food was delicious. Nice selection of craft brews but no full bar.

Excellent food, reasonable prices and a great view!! Fast service and nice laid back atmosphere. Loved this place! I had the Florentine chicken burger and it was absolutely delicious!! The garlic sauce gave it great flavor. My husband had the blackened fish sandwich and he said it was also very tasty! And their fries are amazing!! Would definitely go back!

Really great burgers and sandwiches. We love the fries too! The location and ambience are totally keyz too. The water view is nice and we've always had good service (rare for Marathon). The Bacon Swiss Angus burger is delicious and juicy! Btw if you place a to go order they make the fries when you get there. Be sure to order extra to eat on the way home!

Went there yesterday with a group of 3. We ordered the special for the day - a slider tray with a burger slider, chicken slider, and shrimp slider. All three were good (not amazing, but good). Our waitress was really nice and helpful. Prices were high ($12 for just the sliders + $5 for a basket of fries that fed all three of us) but consistent with what you get in the area. It was kind of rainy, so it wasn't the best day to visit, but I'd love to go back on a nice day. Definitely worth a try if you're passing through or in the area.

We love going to Burdines. Everything I've tried there has been good. The hamburgers can't be beat and its nice eating out on the waterfront.

My wife and I were passing through while reading some yelp reviews and decided to give this 4 star eatery a try. The 5 star rating is not based off of glamour and wow factor, but based off of quality/freshness of food. I personally enjoy the type of place where I can eat and relax and not be concerned with what I'm wearing and how I look. We ordered the sesame tuna salad medium rare, the heavily reviewed French fries, as well as their much talked about fried key line pie. Food was delicious and would definitely stop here again with family and/or friends. Hope you enjoy it I know you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I were driving through the keys and we stumbled on this treasure. We walk up and everyone greeted us. It was mid day so they were moderately busy. We order the Italian Stallion burger and the regular cheeseburger. I had the Italian stallion burger and it was fantastic. It is a burger with a split sausage over the top of it with cheese and marinara. It was great. I would recommend in a heartbeat. My wife had the cheeseburger and she enjoyed hers as well. We shared an order of French fries, they were great. The fries had house seasoning on them that made them acceptional. We got a fried key lime pie for desert. It is basically a key lime chimichanga. It was good as well. We had great service until the desert and the check. They both took a while. I would still go back and recommend this place to people driving through Marathon.

Burdine's has become something of a tradition for my girlfriend and I, on the way home from Key West. The vibe is quintessential florida keys- second floor outdoor bar, right on the water. The perfect place to grab a mahi sandwich and a couple beers on the water. The fish is incredibly fresh. Hush puppies and fries are perfect. Prices are very reasonable. Great selection of hot sauce is an added bonus! I love this place.

  • Lew L.

Worth the wait. Their menu warns....this is not fast food. Fries are amazing. All our fish baskets were very good. Nice selection of beers. Friendly server. Outdoor patio with views of the boats.

  • Lindsay M.

Do yourself a favor and order the homemade hush puppies. They are not grainy and are really fresh with a little bit of a bite to them. Even better when topped with cheese.

  • Mandy B.

We love this place! The tuna sandwich, mahi basket and burgers are all great! Every place has French fries but these are the best ever!!! Great wait staff too!

My family came here on Saturday night and we all really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. My tuna salad was cooked perfectly, and the key lime dressing was delicious. My family's dinners were also great. We all really enjoyed overlooking the canal and watching the boats go by during dinner. Everything was priced great as well... Our tab for 4 with drinks and an appetizer only came out to 70 dollars which is very reasonable. The waitress took a bit longer than expected to bring our check, but it looked like she got busy with other tables sitting down so that's completely understandable. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in town.

Went for dinner while vacationing in Marathon for the first time. Good burgers, fries and they cooked out catch. Was great. Wait staff is a bit sassy but we thought this added to the experience. Best key lime pie we had all week (I like the regular one better than they fried one).

  • John H.

We just stopped in for a few drinks. Great locatiion and service was quick. The chips and salsa are really great. We wanted to come back for dinner but ran out of nights. Probably not a great place to go if it's really windy or rainy.

  • Alex C.

Came in very late one evening 15 minutes before they close, prob around 9:45 and they still served my party of 5 with good cheer, efficiently and the sandwiches came out perfect. We had burgers and fish sandwiches, all of them prepared well, very tasty and the Fries! whoa - really awesome, crisp, all different sizes, which I like and perfectly seasoned.

On a sunny afternoon, this is a great place to chill up on the upper deck, let the breeze blow & have some cold beers & good food with friends. No hard alcohol here, so be advised. Conch chowder is really good (and I'm picky about it). I had the Ahi Tuna sandwich, which was killer. The burgers are great as well. French fries? YES PLEASE!

    (4)
  • Eddy P.

We stopped here for lunch on the way down to key west. It was a very good choice. Their conch fritters were amazing along with their burgers.

Food was good. Setting was great for sunset watching. Wonderfully friendly staff and fries are what make the place. Would definitely go back

It's a cool location, once you get there. The area around its a bit sketchy to say the least. Service was among the best and everything was very tasty. Lot's of hot sauce flavors to try. What is a side of fries in southern FL always delivered as four times the size of anywhere else? ;-)

  • Andrew F.

The burgers, hush-puppies, and fried key lime pie are excellent. The view is nice. Parking is plentiful. Service is very good. But they don't take AMEX. They didn't make one of our burgers plain as ordered, but they brought us a new one very quickly, even insisted after we said we'd make do. $61 before tip for a family of 5, and 1 dessert.

    (3)
  • Melissa B.

So good! Great casual on the water atmosphere. Had the best and messiest fish sandwich ever. Awesome homemade chips and salsa.

  • Karen B.

The best of everything in the Keys, is here. The best burgers, seafood, fries and hush puppies. The fish portions are huge and fresh. The French fries are the best I have ever had. We've been coming here for 10 years and never left disappointed. Eat here some times twice a day. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable. My kids love their lemonade which is made fresh for each cup. There really is zero reason to go anywhere else.

    (5)
  • Lynda M.

I would have given 3-1/2 stars, but don't think they deserve 4 stars. The service was hit or miss, we asked for a round of drinks twice, and never received them. But the food we tried was good, and the fried key lime pie was really good. Kind of like a key lime chimichanga.

    (3)
  • Cailan P.

Here on vacation with a few friends and wanted something delicious, fresh caught, no frills and near the water. This place was fantastic - open air, very friendly service and the good was fantastic. We got hush puppies to start which were very good - didn't soak up the fry oil flavor like many tend to do and were served with a pepper jelly that was a perfect compliment. The shrimp in the shrimp sandwich and the wrap with homemade pesto were so sweet and tender - very good. The fish Caesar pita was also very good. The best part? Fried key lime pie - we got one to share, but should've gotten 2 it was so good.

  • Chris J.

They have a nice view of the marina in their upstairs location (marina views seem to be the norm in Marathon). My wife had a bacon cheeseburger and I had the green chili cheeseburger. My wife really liked the bacon, but did mention it was salty. My burger was not very spicy, and was pretty good. The hamburger could use a little more seasoning. We both liked the fries. Some servers were nice and I could hear others that could have been friendlier. It is off the beaten path which takes you right by a scary looking trailer park.

    (4)
  • Bryan A.

Great and funky place for casual food on the water. The service can be so-so, but the views and the quality of the food reign supreme. Beer and wine only, so you'll have to have your cocktails elsewhere... and that is no problem at all in Marathon. So, when you're sick of eating seafood, head to Burdines and order a burger.

On a recent road trip up and down the Florida Keys, I whipped out my trusty Yelp app to find some roadside eats with a view, and I have to say, I was pretty underwhelmed with this suggestion. Maybe people who frequent the keys just have a low-bar when it comes to meals or maybe we ordered the wrong things, I'm not exactly sure. If possible, I'd give it 2.5 stars but it wasn't quite 3 material for me. The view wasn't all that spectacular for one. I mean, yes, there is water there, but the reviews make it seem like you're going to be blown away by the water view and compared to other places we stopped on this trip, it really isn't all that great. Both the fiancee and I found the menu to be pretty limited. I know it's a Tiki Bar and everything but still, wasn't much to choose from. I was really just looking to get a salad and they didn't have anything in that category on the menu - maybe it was just the day we were there? Fiancee got Mahi with Black Beans and Rice - it was pretty good but nothing out of this world, and the waitress initially forgot to bring out the rice portion so we had to wait a while for that. I ordered a homemade chicken & spinach burger, which was actually really tasty - definitely worth trying if you're looking for something that isn't seafood or fried (which seems to be there specialty). Overall, this place was just ok. I'm sure with some research you can find a better Tiki Bar if driving through the keys looking for a nice meal.

Best food so far! Burger was hand pattied and cooked perfectly, fries were fresh cut and plentiful. Fried shrimp.....best we had in the keys. The is a hidden jewel in Marathon. We will be back before we leave!

  • Rob D.

Food is awesome. Great burgers and fries. Everything is under $10! Drinks are $2.25. They have a great view from the second floor deck. This is a place that locals frequent. A must try!!!

One of the best places in Marathon to eat. Limited tables but worth the wait. Great food, I could have eaten there daily. Big portions as well. I ordered the Chiki Tiki Chicken and LOVED it.

  • M H.

Great food.... Very laid back. I had the blackened fish sandwich. My wife had a fish wrap. The hush puppies are to die for.... Don't dress up. Super casual and relaxed. Right on the water (oh... They don't have liquor... Just beer and wine)

    (4)
  • Stu N.

Mayonnaise happy.... every sandwich seems to have it. Shrimp sandwich falls apart when you try to eat it... shrimp on the floor! Hamburger so tall you cannot bite into it... Pricy... Did I mention Mayonnaise is on every sandwich... Hope you like it or order without!

  • Tim G.

Stopped by this place for lunch after I saw it had 4 stars on Yelp. The place looked a little run down but I thought maybe it was a hidden gem. I ordered the fried shrimp basket and asked to substitute French fries for the hush puppies and coleslaw. I was told that it could not be done but if I wanted to order a basket of fries on the side, I could. This made no sense to me...I didn't care if they charged me extra but I guess no. Shrimp was decent at best and my girlfriend got the fish fingers and said they were rubbery. Overall I would not say it's a place that you must eat at. Far better places in the Key West available.

Best lemonade we ever had! Key Steak was yummy too. Love the decor. Fast, polite, and friendly service. Really can't go wrong.

Hmm. Burdines Burdines. Well; it definitely is the best cheap food place in Marathon. And considering that cheap good food places are hard to come by, it should probably be four stars...However. I found the upper deck seating to be odd. The railing was clearly built high for high top tables, but the table are standard height so you kind of end up getting an eyeful of rail rather than the water. Our waitress was a bit surly and I don't really know why...she asked if we wanted beer or wine and I asked "Well what do you have?" and she (rather crisply) asked me "You got ID?"...I'm pretty sure she thought I was trying to put one over on her but I don't really think I look particularly young. This sort of set a negative tone for our dinner and made us afraid to ask her for anything lest we be barked at again. The food was very good; I had the Philly cheese-steak and it was basically opened face with garlic mayo. Awesome! I also found it kind of of odd that they serve Rum Runners but do not have liquor...they use wine instead. All in all I would go back being that it's the best option for decent AND cheap food, but hopefully the attitude of the wait staff will be improved.

For the price, this place was excellent - off the beaten path but still close to US1. We went on Friday evening. It was a little after dark so the water view was not visible but the outdoor setting was nice with a breeze, and we were treated to a vocalist who was great :). The food was very good for the price. We had corn fritters, fresh yellow fin tuna slalad, BBQ shrimp and Key Lime pie. All were very tasty, service was good, and the total was under $40 including drinks and tip. We are in the Keys for the winter and will definitely go back.

Portions were kind of small; fried shrimp basket had 6 shrimp, could have cut down on the hushpuppies and maybe added a few more shrimp. Our group ordered a basket of fries and asked for a side of garlic mayo (something served with a number of other dishes); the waitress said she'd check - it didn't come with the fries and we were never told why it was a problem. A couple of us tried the fish sandwich; one fried and one grilled. The fried one was a nice surprise with a light cornmeal crust; the home-roasted green chilies that we added for 75 cents, totally made the dish. Unfortunately the tartar sauce that came with three of the four dishes was seasoned with what might have been cinnamon or nutmeg maybe? Wasn't a flavour combo that worked for any of us. We were also a little surprised that being a Tiki bar kind of place that there were no mixed drinks. The bar area was quite large but it was only beer by the bottle and wine.

Simply the best Tuna sandwich ever! Fresh made Yellowfin Tuna, poached, chopped, then their own recipe. Fresh cut fries, great service, great view. All 5 of us loved our meal! Pork a bit dry but quality good!

On our recent trip to Hawks Cay, a friend recommended BURDINES. She said to try it, not for the service, or even the entrees, but for the view and the appetizers. Although, I feel we got lucky with the Server; she was fairly friendly with a smile, the view was spectacular. A few cold beers and, I think what may have been in my top 3 order of fries ever, we enjoyed a nice afternoon on the water. "Food so good, it'll make your tongue slap your brains out." (Burdines Slogan)

    (3)
  • Hans M.

I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the amazing 360 view. The fries are very good and yea a single basket is more than enough for three people. I had the three cheese keys steak and that was sublime so def recommended. Altogether a nice little detour off the main route

Keys perfect. A local hangout that drips the laid back Keys life style. Food is good, drinks are good (try the fresh lemonaide), and the service is as friendly as you could want. On the second level overlooking a canal and a marina. Just watch out for the no-see-ums at dusk.

    (4)
  • Dan R.

Very, very nice. This is an out of the way location, you have to look for it, but it is worth it. Terrific view of sunsets to the S.W. and nice view of the Marina to the NE. Tiki Bar setting, clean and the food was really good. We had the Florentined Chicken Burger and a Swiss Burger, both were large, well prepared and tasted great Also, try their fries - very good. Also excellent Key Lime Pie!

Can't say enough good things about this place! It is a bit hard to find as it is located around and behind a trailer park; however once you find it - chow down! Fantastic bar food of every kind! Good selection of drinks! Located right on the water!

Absolute best fish sandwich in the Keys. We come to the Keys several times a year and always make at least two trips to Burdines per visit. Also have the best fries you will ever eat.

    (5)
  • Phillip P.

We found the food delicious and loved the relaxed dockside atmosphere. It was fried key lime pie that was the real high point. We still rave about it. It is one of the best desserts ever - and I am not even a fan of key lime pie. It was that good.

    (5)
  • Barbara W.

The food was good, but the view was even better. They had a good rice and bean platter for vegan me. And the beer was nice and cold. My husband absolutely loved the fried key lime pie!

  • Arn D.

Stopped in for a burger after a day of boating and boy what a nice surprise I had. I had the green chili burger and fries! Best burger and fries I have had in a long time. The green chili was locally grilled and added a nice flavor to the burger (it was not hot). The fries are fresh cut and if you're into this style of fries - it doesn't get any better....except maybe In n Out fries out west. :) If it's a windy day, make sure and find a table in the lee side of the restaurant or you'll be busy holding things down. :)

  • Lydia R.

Wow! Can you say Fish Reuben! That was amazing! The other food was great also....blackened fish sandwich, seared tuna salad. But believe it or not, my parents said that this restaurant by the sea is best known by locals for their burgers. Not eating meat, I cannot put a stamp on that claim to fame. But I can tell you it was awesome food & "keesy" atmosphere to go with it. Oh, & we had a coupon for free basket of fries from one of the local papers too.

Great food and outdoor patio. We ordered tuna salad, Burger, fish soft taco and chicken soft shell taco. Cheap drinks as well, our bill was $54 for 4 ppl.

We were driving up from Key West to Fort Lauderdale to catch a flight back home when we decided to take a nice little detour to Burdines. My wife was a bit skeptical since it was tucked in this little side street near the docks. Hands down the cheapest food we ate all trip. I had the tuna salad w/ sesame dressing, perfectly seared and it was only $10! Up north this would definitely cost upwards of $20. My wife needed a bit more grease so she had the fried shrimp and hush puppies which were decent as well. The fries were really good too. Nice water views (even though it was raining when we went). Nice local spot.

    (4)
  • Cindy B.

Ok. It's the Keys. It's a dive bar. Cold beer, cheap wine, slow service, fresh fish! Not bad!

    (2)
  • Kayla B.

My parents live nearby, and this is definitely a favorite local spot, as far as you can get from a tourist trap, which is a welcome change. The food is cheap and amazing. Be nice to the waitresses and they'll be nice to you, that's just how it is in the keys! It can be tricky to find, but once you do, you'll be glad you're there, great food and a great waterfront view. All seating is outside and upstairs. Try the fries and the chicken florentine burger, not a meal you'll soon forget!

Awesome burgers and services. It is a very laid back environment and a nice view. Prices are reasonable; you don't have to pay the Key West price for this place.

Good food at reasonable prices with a decent waterfront view. Bugs can be bad around sunset though.

  • Christy I.

A local in the area recommended this place for lunch. Don't let the location fool you. It's at the end of a little road behind an old trailer park but once you get there it's quit nice. It's upstairs overlooking the water with lots of outdoor seating. There is a covered area with lots of ceiling fans which was also very open and cool. They have several menu items and also offered specials. I had a cheeseburger for $4! It was delicious! My Fiancé had the bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp and he said it was fantastic. We shared a huge basket of homemade french fries with their famous "fry dust" for $2 and I would go back again just for the fries. The service was fast and the staff was friendly. Only offer beer and wine.

While visiting Marathon mostly for fishing, we had a late lunch at Burdines Waterfront on the 4th of July ... Hubby had their special of the day which was a mahi wrap with fresh mixed greens, tomatoes and creamy goat cheese...with a very cold beer ... Need I say more ? He was a happy camper... I opted for the ahi tuna sandwich with fresh tomatoes and pickled ginger... and had the house wine (Barefoot) ... we shared a large basket of seasoned fries ... plus a slice of key lime pie ... everything was delicious !!! This is a quaint little place perched over a marina. We loved it !!! A local recommended this restaurant when we asked for good food with a nice view. It did not disappoint !!! We liked this waterfront tiki so much that we came back the next day with our snapper catch which they grilled and deep fried served with hush puppies and coleslaw. The location is quiet and relaxing. Good food, good service, good prices and a very nice view ... All tables are outdoors on second floor overlooking marina and channel ... We enjoyed the view as we watched all types of boats passing by while savoring our lunch. The place is casual and a real "hidden gem" in Marathon. If you are not a local, it's not very easy to find but very doable and worth the effort.

This is the recommended spot in Marathon and its due to the view and cheap eats. Had the burger which was OK but definitely try the fried key lime pie. Service was very good and the view is outstanding. Perfect keys hangout

  • Ed T.

We had the mahi melt and grilled mahi sandwich we shared a massive basket of fries that were cooked to a delicious crispy and seasoned well. The views are great. Some of the best seafood, great location, quick service cheap as heck. Just the type of salty food joint I look for in the keys.

    (4)
  • Charlie F.

First, it's the cheapest good restaurant on the island. Second, the food is really good to excellent. Tuna steak sandwich, while really good, is not the same tuna steak in entree which is thicker and allows for a better medium-rare grill. The entree was great - don't forget the fresh ginger. Third, nice peaceful view of channel where locals are boating past.

    (4)
  • SC O.

Perfect spot to take a boat ride to, from duck key or the marathon area. Tuna melt is a different take on what you'd expect, but great. Cheese covered hush puppies, anyone? Love their borrowed/loaner koozie concept while there. Docking is easy for newbies, go have fun! PS: their number is listed incorrectly. Area code is 305.

  • Gary D.

This place is a hidden gem in the Keys. Do not miss this one or let the fact that it's off the beaten path keep you away. The food is served on paper plates without any flair, however prep and attention to detail along with freshness are uncompromised. The open air kitchen is immaculate and the view incredible. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

    (5)
  • Michael S.

We came on a slow night, and the bugs were horrible. The French Fries were Awesome! Other than that it was just ok.. it was the least expensive meal we had on the island, but it just seems like the place has been running itself for years, and there is just no excitement at the restaurant.

    (2)
  • Judi B.

Do not miss this awsome waterfront spot. Bar only serves beer(nothing on tap)and wine. The food and service was topnotch. I had a chicken spinach feta burger that was delicious and my husband has BBQ shrimp wrapped in bacon with black beans and rice. Do not forget to order their fries...they sprinkel them with a secret dust and they come out hot and fresh. One of the best spots in the Keys!
