What a gem of a restaurant! It's hard to find a restaurant that works for my gluten-free, meat-eating husband and me, a vegan. This was perfect. The fajitas were superb. Veggie with no dairy for me and chicken and beef with corn tortillas for my husband. The service was excellent. If we hadn't been driving I would have had a $2.49 Corona or a $2.99 margarita. It's small and busy with many people coming in for takeout. Conveniently right off the highway so easy in and easy out.

If I could not leave a star and have it count as a zero, I would do it.... This is ABSOLUTELY the FILTHIEST restaurant that we have ever been to. Women's bathroom, the seat for the toilet was broken off and was laying on the floor. The doors on both the entrance to the bathroom and to the stall itself were just plain filthy. Everything about the restaurant was just plain dirty! There were no other customers in the place when we arrived and we were at first going to seat ourselves by the window, but the table that we were going to sit at was dirty....told the guy that was going to seat us, and we promptly got a dirty and disgusted look....There appeared to be 8 other people in the restaurant besides us....2 were out front, our waitress and what appeared to be 5 others in the kitchen where the food was being prepared. 3 of the 5, I had observed, were eating in the kitchen on the freezer....and how do I know this, because the door that was supposed to be separating the main dining room from the back, was either missing or propped open, thus exposing us to their extremely loud conversations and laughs as well as their glaring looks....being there truly made us both sick to our stomachs....if the front and the bathroom looks as bad as it does, one can only imagine what the kitchen area looks like.... The chips that were served were stale, the salsa was nice and the rest of the food was mediocre....BUT we will NEVER dine here again due to their terrible attitudes, and the pure filth of the place. If we feel a need to eat Mexican food in Macclenney, we will be going to the Mexican food establishment off of US 90, west of 6th St. The other restaurant has very tasty and fresh food, owners and employees are hospitable and care for their customers. And the place is clean!

Macclenny is not crawling with tons of places to have a great sit down dinner, but this little hole in the wall will do just fine. The staff is always friendly and pretty quick about taking your order. The food is nothing to write home about, but it is descent enough to want to try again. They have specials daily, which are priced so that you can enjoy what you are eating without worrying that you are gonna go broke! They must have done something a little different to their salsa, because it had a nice kick to it this time.

San Jose is the only Mexican restaurant in Macclenny...well besides Taco Bell, but I don't think that counts. Just like every Macclenny restaurant, this place is pretty small. Even when busy, we've never had trouble getting a table. They always serve hot chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. Look for the deals on the board they have each day to save money. Usually they have a combo deal that is a lunch entree and drink for around 7 bucks. Really cheap. I wouldn't say this is the greatest or most authentic Mexican restaurant I've been too, but the food has always been very good. The queso is runnier then any queso I've had, but it has great flavor. My most favorite dish is something I've never had anywhere else. It's called the cheesesteak. They take a large flour tortilla fold it in half and stuff it with steak, onions, peppers, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Then the most amazing part that makes me salivate while thinking about it......they cover the whole thing with queso!!!! There's nothing better then having something drowning in cheese. The dish also comes with a side of refried beans and rice, but the star is the cheesesteak. I've had a few other dishes here like the chimichanga and fajitas. Everything has been good, but that cheesesteak is the winner at this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
