I was looking for a healthy dining place that is open late on a Sunday night and decided to give this place a try. I am so glad I did. I decided to order the vegetable balls in the "chef's special sauce". My waiter told me the sauce varies nightly depending on the chef's mood. Tonight's was a tomato and curry base. And it was delicious! I highly recommend you try the food here. I'll be back. (I'd love to come during the day to try out their buffet.) The service, btw, was excellent. Everyone was very attentive, friendly, and accommodating.

Very disappointed, heard so much Bout Woodlands, we were all looking forward to it. My husband is epileptic, therefore he has a service dog, I explain the situation to the person in charge and our service dog was not allowed, we d driven for an hour, and I didn't want to make a fuss of it. They should know is against the law not to allow a service dog in a restaurant . A vegetarian Restaurant with such a little consciousness ? Te restaurant was almost empty, we sat at a table of or choosing but the waiter wanted us to sit on a smaller table, then we were rushed cause they close at 3 pm, we were not even finished , waiter reminded us with the bill we had to leave. not good

I must preface this by stating that I am in NO WAY a vegetarian! If you are looking for proof, read my other reviews... This place is proof that indulging in carnivorous behavior is not the only way to achieve foodgasm! This is my second favorite Indian restaurant in SoFla... Though if it was closer to me, it would be tied for first. The Chana Masala is beyond excellent! If I bring home leftovers, they never make it till the next night's dinner, as my offspring covets it... The Gobi Manchurian is super tasty, and the Dal Makhani is excellent. I always get their Garlic Naan, though the regular is also good. I recommend the Mango Lassi, as well! So delicious!

We loved Woodlands. The decor is quaint, nothing fancy but tasteful. The service was amazing, we were constantly doted on, as well as our plates being cleared immediately. The food was delicious. Our waiter helped us order & we were very happy with his suggestions. We ordered the gobi manchuran (cauliflower), Aloo gobi (potatoes, cauliflower, onions & bell peppers) & chana masala. My favorite dish was the aloo gobi. YUMMY! The perfect blend of spices with the right concoction of vegetables. I showed the waiter that they were on yelp & he was quite happy about all the great reviews. He had no idea they were even there . Since our visit we have recommended them quite a few times & we look forward to going back. So far this is the best indian food we've had!!!

Best indian food in south florida! This is part of a national chain but there aren't too many. I've been to the one in nashville. All-vegetarian South Indian food, the buffet is the best deal around!! There are so many, maybe a dozen or so, unique South Indian dishes from vegetables curries to lentil and bean dishes, to paneer, to soups, fritters, breads, rice, all manner of Indian delicacies. Every dish is very unique and unlike the others, as per the wonderful Indian cuisine tradition. You probably wouldn't even realize its all vegetarian because you're just enjoying these delicious flavors. Lots of great spices and seasonings, especially South Indian stuff like curry leaves chilies and coconut. Soups are great. I can't believe its all you can eat. They give you a huge dosa to to your table included, usually potato. There are so many fantastic dipping sauces, yogurt, relishes, etc. The desserts are quite nice too, usually a little more than the standard gulab jamun and rice pudding. Every buffet is a little different. Very nice people doing a very nice business.

Woodlands, I love Woodlands. The most **PERFECT* Gobi Manchurian... I want to say I used to think I didn't like Cauliflower, but that's simply not true I just didn't know cauliflower could be THIS good. Woodlands offers the best Indian-Chinese food I've had in Florida. I find myself longing this dish from them and salivating at the thought. I loooove this place! (Did I say that already?) Their pink lemonade is seriously the best pink lemonade I've ever had as well, I've never tastes any other pink lemonade like it.

This is, hands down, the most authentic South Indian food you can get in South Florida. My boyfriend is Indian and I've spent over 6 months in Bangalore. This is our go-to place when we don't feel like cooking at home. First, the food. Under new ownership they've expanded their menu to include all types of chaat (snack food) and other favorites. While still staying true to providing the best dosas I've had in a SoFla restaurant. For those who don't know, dosas are the Indian equivalent of a savory crepe, served with sambar - a tomato based lentil soup - and coconut chutney (we call it coconut crack cause it's so darn good). Dosa batter is made from a mixture of ground lentils and rice. You can get it masala style, which means it will come with a nice pile of Indian style mashed potatoes in the middle of it. Also, they're huge. Yum. Musts: Masala Dosa or Special Rava (made with cream of wheat) Masala Dosa. Paneer Makhani (think of the creamiest butter chicken you've ever had, but swap in delicate chunks of paneer instead), Daal Makhani - creamy lentil and bean curry. We also really enjoy their Samosa Chaat - potato samosas covered in yogurt, tamarind and mint sauce with fresh cilantro. This place is on the up and up. I've got to give Barry and Nick (the owners, and Americanized versions of their real names) props for redoing the place. They've replaced the peeling pink wall paper with a more upscale burgundy paint job and have installed brand new lamps over all the booths. They've got plans to redo the floor, basically the whole place. It looks great! Great for groups - just call ahead of time!

By far the tastiest INDIAN restaurant I found around Plantation. Their menu has many options...all of them taste delicious..the staff is very friendly. The owner is very nice to everyone...he stops by every table to make sure how people like what they ordered...(very rare in indian restaurants)... Close to back home cooking!!!

We were excited to try this place as it is near home. Most of the patrons were Indian so we were ready for some superior food. We were disappointed. The garlic nan was good as was the mango lassi. The Dahl makhani was okay but was missing a taste that is found at other restaurants. The potato bonds was tasty but only slightly warm. Overall, it's an ok place if we don't feel like driving a distance for the good stuff.

Visiting from Canada...this restaurant was recommended by a sales clerk at a retail store. We took her advice and headed out. A little out of our way but the trip was well worth it. The food was fresh. Tried the Thali and it was well worth the drive. We also had the puri which was as good as anywheres else. Good atmosphere and quite a few people, very clean.

As a vegetarian, it is sublime (no pun intended to other veggie restaurant in the area). I can proudly state that myself and group are normally the only non-Indians in the place. Very tasty food, huge portions, and crazy low prices. I've never gone for the buffet, so cannot comment on that, but their dinners never disappoint. That's speaking for the carnivores in the groups too! Also fun is when you get a "pro salesman" waiter who somehow convinces you that a 4 course meal is precisely what you need. Of course, when you leave, you're stuffed, but amply supplied with leftovers to last a week! I love their bhindi masala...okra at its finest.

There are mango lassis included in the buffet along with many dishes and breads. Very tasty, filling and inexpensive. There are also dosas, which are like crepes stuffed with potatoes and they are great. The staff seemed very friendly as well and were happy to answer my question about what those delicious crepes were called. If I lived in South Florida, I would be hitting this place up all the time.

Hands down the best Indian Restaurant throughout all of South Florida. The owner is very kind and attentive to the needs of all the customers making sure they are satisfied. The food will leave you begging for more, ask for the Gobi Manchurian for appetizer and you will fall in love. The food is very authentic and brings together various aspects of Indian cuisine. The environment can be very busy but that is just a small blemish to the beautiful restaurant!

What an amazing, authentic restaurant. If you're looking for vegetarian north and South Indian cuisine look no further. The price points are on point and the selection broad. The service is fast and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone, vegetarian or not!

We came here for the first time on a Saturday for lunch, it was amazing. The service was wonderful, and we told the waiter it was our first time there and he took us over to the buffet line and explained what everything was. The price was $8.95 and the buffet was super stocked with different dishes. I always tell my husband the sign of a good "cultural" restaurant is people from that culture eating there, and mostly all of the customers were Indian. We loved everything on the buffet, though some were a little spicy for my taste, but its Indian food, so I expected a kick. The drink was "Mango Milkshake" and it too was amazing. We can't wait to come back here, particularly because its a vegetarian restaurant. Loved it.

The decor gets a 2 for being outdated, but you will also notice the restaurant may set one of the highest bars for cleanliness. It's ugly but not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere. The service is good, friendly and happy to answer your questions about the menu. The vibe is that of a great local place with a family run and real Indian atmosphere. But this place shines with the food. It's vegetarian but I don't think you would even notice if you are a meat eater. The food is incredibly well prepared, great sauces, hot, fresh, and seasoned perfectly. If you are in the mood for Indian food, this is the place to go, hands down.

I have gone to the restaurant and also had them cater an event. Dosas and gobi manchurian are superb. Highly professional staff when on-site. Made all the dishes with a seriousness and care that was appreciated by all including guests! Strongly recommend the dosas, chaat and gobi manchurian (best I've ever had).

Woodlands is one of two South Indian vegetarian restaurants in the Fort Lauderdale area. If you are not familiar with South Indian vegetarian food, you will find it very different from the usual (northern) Indian restaurants. I got to know this cuisine when I liven in Singapore, where there is a large population of Tamils, people from Tamil Nadu in the south of India. What are the dishes like? They are more strongly flavored and spicier than North Indian/Pakistani food. if you have never eaten this kind of food before, be sure to try a masala dosa, a pancake stuffed with flavored/spiced potatoes. All the dishes are large, so it is easy to over order. The restaurant also has a section of Indian-style Chinese dishes, which are not my thing. I prefer Chinese-style Chinese food. In addition they have the familiar North In dian dishes, but (to my mind) they taste better when prepared with a South Indian flare. My wife and I really loved the food at Woodlands. Our only complaint is that we assumed that the cook would spice the food to Indian tastes since nearly everybody but us in the restaurant was an Indian. We didn't mention that, however, and the food came back much less spicy (hot) than we would have liked. It was still very spicy (flavored with spices) though, and was really delicious. The other South Indian restaurant is in the same neighborhood and is called the Udipi Cafe. I think it is equally good. I should also mention that the waiters at Woodlands are very helpful in choosing dishes. They may try to steer you away from more exotic selections, so beware.

Walked in and completely glossed over fact it was vegetarian. With that being said, the food here was fantastic. I had the spring rolls to start, mushroom Marsala, and the Naan. Marsala was outstanding. I recommend the Kulfi, a creamy iced dessert that comes in 3 flavors. It was so amazing, I had a second ( portion was puck sized). Overall this place is a pearl!

Good food.. but too expensive (not worth the money). Well it's kinda crazy. They have the buffet which is super value ($12).. then there is the Thali that is crazy expensive (like close to $20!). Choose wisely..

Great selection at the buffet including sauces, curries, and amazing naan. Attentive wait staff and while the decor may be outdated the restaurant is incredibly clean. One of the best lunch spots in Plantation.

I'm from Miami and when i'm in the area this is definite must stop and eat location. I'm a carnivore but i do not miss the taste of meat here. I've tried numerous items on the menu and i've left leaving happy that i enjoyed such a fantastic meal. Stop trying to imitate Manjula and come over...it's worth it!

Visited recently for the lunch buffet with a coworker who is Indian. I thought it was really good and better than any Indian restaurant I've been to, although I have not been to that many. By comparison, there is an Indian buffet down the street from my work and this place is 10x better. The dosai they brought to the table (crispy/buttery rice crepe filled with potato & onion) was awesome...I could eat those all day. Also liked the vegetable dishes (chick peas, carrots, etc) in a spicy sauce. Some of the stuff is pretty spicy but not so hot that it's uncomfortable. Grab an orange soda from the dispenser at the buffet table to wash it down...thought that was interesting. They also have assorted types of bread with all kinds of good stuff to dip the bread in, such as chutney and some other tasty sauces. It's pretty much a carb fest, but I don't mind that every once in awhile. I will definitely go back to Woodlands now that I know where to go for Indian food.

Completely surprised at how great our dinner was. My boyfriend is from London (with amazing Indian restaurants) and also spent 8 months traveling in India. He said this was the BEST Indian food he has ever had outside of India. And in South Florida...who knew!! We will be coming back for sure.

i ordered take out. Food was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Good. I love Indian food, but this was my first time doing vegetarian. I was not disappointed at all. I don't remember the name of the dish, but it was like 4 types of beans in tomatoey flavored sauce. Naan was perfect.

New ownership, new management, new cook, new staff, new recipes...same place, same menu, but the food just isn't as good as it was with the old crew. The old Woodlands crew got deported...the whole lot of them. The new Woodlands crew is hard working and friendly, but the food just isn't as good. Its not bad, I would call it average.

my husband (who is from Delhi, India originally) and I moved to Miami from New York a short time ago we were desperate to find good indian in south florida. little did we know how exceptionally difficult this would be. this place is the only good indian we've found within driving distance. i can not believe it, but sadly that's been our finding. luckily it's well worth the drive. their food is exceptional. very well spiced, fresh and just all around great with a great selection of dishes. it's a vegetarian place so sadly, there will be no tandoori chicken in our furture, but the quality of everything else certainly makes up for it. of particular note is the truly spectacular garlic naan and palak paneer which is always the first dish we order to judge a place. if the palak paneer is not too goopy, full of fresh spinach and well spiced, you're usually good to go - which is certainly the case here. Their dal makhani is simply perfect, a little thicker than dals we've had before, but the falvor is complex and comforting and just divine. the methi malai mutter is fabulous as well - we've had this a few times and it's consistently great. though my husband makes something at home made with Methi (a somewhat mint like leafy herb/green), we've never seen this combination of ingredients offered on a menu. I'm glad we went for it because it's a great addition to our repertoire. the carrot halwa (I've only seen it on menus as Gajar Ka Halwa but carrot is what it is) is also good, though i'm usually so full by the time we get there, it's hard to fully appreciate it. fully recommended wihtout reservation - i just wish they had a location in south Miami!

When you drive 35 miles out of Miami for the sole purpose of food, you know food has to be worth it. Woodlands serve fresh and delectable South Indian food and it's always packed, but you are still seated pretty immediately. So if you have never tried South Indian cuisine here are some great appetizers to get: ~GOBI MANCHURIAN (dry) - cauliflower marinated with flour, sauteed with garlic, ginger, chile, soya sauce; MUST HAVE ~PANEER CHILLY - home made Indian cheese lightly spiced & fried ~DAHI VADA - fried lentil donut dipped in yogurt I usually get an appetizer and the MASALA DOSA which is a thin rice crepe filled with spiced potatoes & onions. It's served with sambar, an Indian vegetable stew if you will, and a green coconut chutney. Use your hands and get down and dirty. Prices are reasonable. The ambiance is not anything special; you go there exclusively to eat good food. So on a sunny Sunday afternoon, put your windows down and drive up to Woodlands and enjoy some delish South Indian food.

I go here often if i miss eating south indian food, I enjoy their Dosa's the service is pretty fast and the food is always good and always fresh. The only thing that is at times sad is the timings they either close to early during weekdays and on weekends they close an hour or two for lunch around 3. So there has to always be a specific time to actually go there and if work or something comes up you always have to miss the yum food.

One of the perks of my first full week of solo business travel without my omnivorous (yet still oh-so-wonderful) coworkers means finally having the freedom to find veggie places to eat that don't relegate me to a measly salad and dinner roll! To celebrate (err... probably not the right word, but oh well) my sixth week of business travel to Fort Lauderdale in two months, I've decided to dedicate this week to a four day tour of the vegetarian-friendly restaurants in this fine city. I kicked off my tour tonight at Woodlands and was not disappointed! I went around 8pm on a Monday night and the restaurant was about half full- most of the patrons were large Indian families with a smattering of other couples and solo diners such as myself. I was greeted and sat promptly. I found the service throughout the entire experience to be warm, friendly and prompt. So the food.... As an appetizer, I tried the vegetable cutlets. I was hoping they'd resemble vegetable pakoras in some way, but didn't find this to be the case. Instead, I received two breaded and fried boca-burger-sized patties made of mixed veggie and curried potato. Although their appearance was unexpected, I did find them to be quite delicious. For my entree, I ordered the aloo palak (which came with a side of rice-- not always a "given" at Indian restaurants where I come from) and garlic naan. The aloo palak was delicious and amazingly flavorful. But the naan... oh the naan... truly the most amazing garlic naan I've ever had. Oh so buttery...oh so garlicy (I should be good and vampire proof for a week or so now)... oh so delicious. Cooked to perfection in a tandoori oven. Order it... seriously... just do it. You won't be sorry. The portions are fairly large.. I thought I was famished, but between the veggie cutlets, the naan, and the aloo palak, I probably only ate 1/4 of the food. My bill came to under $17 - very reasonable, considering I could have shared the meal with at least one or two more people. As a note of warning to business travelers who, like myself, live and die by the Corporate AmEx... they do not take AmEx. The menu says they take "major credit cards", but apparently AmEx isn't in this group. I used my personal Visa card with no issues. All in all, a wonderful dining experience for Day 1 of tour! I'll definitely be back if I find myself in this neck of the woods again soon.

So apparently I've driven past this place several times to eat at Gabose but never noticed it. Cuz who would associate forests (Woodlands) with... India? Anyhow, finally came here with a friend after multiple rave recs from our friends and Indian professors. Coming from the middle of the Silicon Valley with its plethora of authentic, cheap, and delicious Indian food, I was really hesitant to try this place. We came during lunch and made the mistake of getting the lunch buffet. At least it was cheap ($6.95). The sign at the beginning of the buffet line reminded me of home and made me smile: "You can not take leftovers home. Takeout is not included in buffet price." Lol. That's usually a good sign - it means lots of Asians frequent the place. Also, they labeled Tang as "fizzy orange drink" - another good indication of an authentic Indian establishment. Unfortunately, the curries/biryani were just mediocre and the eggplants were positively revolting. They don't make naan during lunch and served butter-grilled hamburger buns instead. The only redeeming part of lunch were the masala dosa brought to the table. They were piping hot and ultra delicious.

I went here on Thanksgiving Day (11/24) as it was both one of a few restaurants I wanted to try and one of the few places I could find that were open! My mom and I had the "Thanksgiving" lunch buffet for $12.95. My mom and I, both being relatively new to Indian food and having no idea what almost anything was, decided to try everything at the buffet. I especially enjoyed the masala dosa, mango lassi! (my favorite Indian drink!), rasmalai, paneer kafta curry on basmati rice and vegetable samosa. Thanks to Tim F. for the suggestion! I am very glad that I decided to have my first taste of Indian food at a buffet, especially an all-vegeterian buffet! Highly recommended for awesome authentic (there were almost all Indians at the buffet!), vegetarian food. I am always a fan of vegetarian food. The people there were really helpful and instructed us on how to properly eat the chaat pani puri. Great for anyone who wants to try Indian food but isn't sure where to go! Everything was excellent from the food to the service. I want to give it more than 5 stars but can only give it 5.

Great service, delicious food and reasonably priced buffet. Also celiac/gluten-free friendly, the servers are very knowledgeable and friendly. The place is packed every time I've been there and with good reason! Will be back soon.

As part of my New Year's Resolution of going vegetarian for personal reasons of course, a good friend of mine visiting from Santa Barbara who happened to be vegetarian, wanted to get together for lunch. After mucking about on the web looking for places to try, I came across this place and we drove all the way West from the beach. I have always been a fan of Indian food and so was my buddy. I have no problem eating no animals, so when we sat down for a lunch brunch at Woodlands, we were excited to see what was cooking. The variety was fair; a few chutneys, a few curries, a few starches - breads & such - and a couple refreshments aside from water which you didn't have to order from a regular menu. For 7.95 I was pleasantly surprised at the selection and couldn't have asked for more. I can't get into the specifics as far as names of what I had so I will just say that they were all delicious! I was happy with the amount of vegetables that were in each option and the seasoning was wonderful without being too overpowering. Aside from the buffet line, with your meal they also offered a crepe that came with or without potatoes which was a really nice touch too. I thoroughly enjoyed that part of my meal and needless to say we were both full. I highly recommend Woodlands on the food alone but they gentleman, who may have been the manager/owner/really nice guy was attentive and kind.

You know there are a lot of South Indians somewhere when there's a Woodlands around! So, it is no surprise its South Florida location is in Broward. This South India-based vegetarian chain is an excellent introduction to the different cooking style found in South India versus the tandoors, naans, and biryanis of the North. It is still spicy, aromatic, and flavorful, but just....different. Not very descriptive, I know, but I think you will find the taste a little more subtle and complex than North Indian cooking. The buffet is the best option, as it contains a plethora of choices and comes with servings of freshly cooked dosa, which are basically Indian crepes (the ones they serve you are called masala dosas, as they have Indian style potato wrapped inside - dip it in either the coconut chutney or sambar, which is like a vegetable stew). Make sure you get the idlis (steamed rice cakes) when they come out fresh from the buffet (again, dip in coconut chutney or sambar). Try a little bit of everything, though one downside is the (canned) tomatoes they use give the tomato-based dishes a strong acidity. The gulab jamin is not too different than found at any other Indian restaurant and neither is the chai. The busy traffic this place gets (Indian and non-Indian) ensures a lot of hustle and bustle, but the wait staff is cordial and prompt.

Fantastic vegetarian Southern Indian Cuisine! The service was great, including his recommendation on a new dish to try. The Paneer Makhani is exceptional! Will definitely come back to this place.

I'm no vegetarian and by a very long stretch - just a fan of great food. Initially reluctant (think they pulled a B.A Baracus move on me to get me there) I now have fortnightly cravings for this place. Go there with people 'in the know', or try the lunch buffet first to get your feet wet (it does get crowded on the weekends so be prepared to jostle for position) Highly recommend the Dosas (paper, or otherwise) - about the size of a small human and always entertaining to watch come out of the kitchen...Great paneer dishes, chana dishes...don't think I've had anything here that I didn't like Price wise you can't go wrong. Ambiance? Not much, though I'm typically too busy eating to notice - the food practically comes flying out the kitchen upon order. Hope you try it

Yay! An all vegetarian Indian restaurant! The restaurant nicely accommodated my vegan preferences. I ordered the chana masala with garlic naan - enough food for two of me. The dishes were excellent. Unfortunately, Woodlands doesn't currently offer any vegan desserts. I'd definitely eat here again if I'm in the area. Side note: I was pleased to see that the majority of diners that evening was Indian - for me, that's always a good sign at an Indian restaurant.

The only drawback to the place, for me, is the one-hour drive. But, I'd do it again, hail or shine.. Not only does this place serve delicious delicious south indian cuisine, they also have the chinese food that only indians serve, yes, it's indo-chinese cuisine. So, we ordered the chinese chili fry (made of cottage cheese, peppers, green chilis, and onions), the onion masala butter dosa, and the onion chili uttapam. All of what we ate, delicious. Friends of mine ate from the lunch buffet and the others ordered the aloo palak, which I nibbled at and it was Yummy tooo.. If it wasn't that long a drive, I'd make this place a weekly thing. They are the only place that actually serves a healthy portion of masala (the "potato stuffing") in the dosa. The sambhar is light and just right for the dosa and the accompanying coconut chutney - yummers!!! The decor like most South Indian places, and houses, is simple and very clean.

Excellent! Everything we tried was outstanding. Not your typical Indian restaurant menu.

  • Roland S.

Had the lunch buffet here today; what a disappointment. My wife and I both give this one star. We liked the chutneys and the dahi vada but otherwise the food was very unexciting and moderately unappetizing. The naan was limp, greasy, and charred. We both had indigestion the rest of the day. For either Indian or vegetarian food, we'd go somewhere else.

Amazing food. Great service. Good prices. We met Indians from Palm Beach who drive hour to eat here. Great dosas. We go every week and spend a few minutes each time figuring out how they can redecorate. They must have used a dollar store for their design inspiration!

This is the only South Indian restaurant that I could find in South Florida. I've been to better places up near Philly called Udupi. And for some reason, I can find dosai that taste just like the ones I used to have in Tamil Nadu...I'm not sure why this is, but have surmised that maybe its the fermentation of the dosai mix or maybe it's the fact that the water in the batter had a distinct taste. I've never had the buffet, but I have had the thali meals. They are good, similar to other Thali meals I've gotten in the states. I miss the waiters with the huge pots of rice adding more to your plate. I also drive an hour to come here and think that it's pretty competitive with other South Indian restaurants in the states.

Decent, tasty, and affordable vegetarian Indian cuisine at this small restaurant in an unassuming strip-mall. Hooray! I wasn't familiar with South Indian cuisine but I was happy with the dinner selection we made here. Veggie curry, garlic naan, my friend ordered crepe, lassi, samosas. It all hit the spot. Enough for leftovers. The servers were friendly as mentioned by a previous reviewer. Went here on a whim, this must be the closest Indian restaurant to my mom's neighborhood. Would go back again.

Best Indian restaurant in South Florida. I loved it long before I became a vegetarian; the food is filling and flavorful and you will never feel like anything is missing as you might with some vegetarian options. Now that I am veg it's one of my favorite places to eat out or take out. All my meat-eating friends have been reluctant to try it at first but once I drag them out they are genuinely impressed. Lunch buffet is great if you're new to Indian food and don't know what to try because they offer a lot of options. I eat here pretty often but I always find something new on the buffet. Fresh dosa are brought to your table. The buffet food DOES sit in chafing dishes and is not quite as fresh as the dinner fare but it's still an excellent lunch. Dinner portions are very generous and affordable. A curry (which comes with rice) plus bread of choice is enough for two dinners for me and is about $10. Palak paneer is my personal favorite but I'm always thrilled by everything I order here. All the appetizers, breads and dosa I've tried have been hot, fresh and fantastic. I've never had room for dessert. Don't expect fancy decorations but do expect great food. Note: They don't use any eggs here but do use a lot of dairy products and many dishes have ghee/butter in them. If you're vegan you will definitely want to ask before you order-- but I'm sure you're used to that.

I've only been there for the lunch buffet, Exactly what it advertises...vegetarian all the way, south Indian food. All pretty decent for a buffet. They will bring out a fresh-made Masala Dosa (potato stuffed crepe or thin pancake) which is included in the buffet price. I am sorry there is no soup available, but the food is pretty good. I will definitely keep going back. Price is reasonable and the service is very good.

YOU MUST EAT AT WOODLANDS. I was on vacation with my roommate when we found Woodlands and decided to try it. We had the Gobi Manchurian, Dosa, Chole Batura, Paneer Chili, Veg cutlets, Dahi Vada, Idly Sambar, among many other buffet items. How did we try to many things in one meal you wonder? We didn't, we LOVED it SO MUCH the first day, we ate lunch or dinner there for the entire week! The staff knew we'd sit down and want Gobi/Paneer Chili before we even asked. The staff is very nice, he prices are fair, and the food is DELICIOUS. I've traveled to India many, many times and have eaten at Kakaitya and Taj (which are some of the "best" places to eat in Southern India) and their cuisine doesn't care. Woodlands tastes home cooked and it's delicious every time. When you go there, be SURE to have both the Gobi Manchurian and the Paneer Chili. I normally don't like Paneer (ever) but this was DELICIOUS. It's like an appetizer more than an entree and it's spiced just perfect. Woodlands is a must!!!!

Avoid the Buffett, but the dosa's are good. Highly recommend chane bhatura.

Woodlands is pretty good South Indian veg restaurant in South Florida. Very generic in decor but don't care for that as long the food in good. The lunch buffets is cheap and the selection in pretty good too and the best part is the Dosas that's served right on the table. Service is pretty good. If you have a taste for vegetarian Indian food you should like the place.

OK - this is it! We have finally landed on a good S. Indian restaurant in S. Florida ....not for the ambiance maybe but definitely for the food! Woodlands is set in a strip mall setting (again - that seems to be a common theme here!) and when you enter you might be rather surprised to see the flowery wallpaper. However, once the food arrived, it was easy to look past everything else since the dosas and the idlis were truly authentic. Our little guy loved the vadas! Service is also prompt and definitely not lacking in care or attention. The menu is fairly long and includes several other options other than the south Indian fare but can't speak to that since we haven't had a chance to try those dishes out yet. This is going to be our default weekend brunch option when we are in the mood for Indian food, so I guess we will have plenty more opportunities to venture down that road!

good service, good food ! for a south indian restaurant, the best dishes turned out to be gobi manchurian (dry, as an appetizer) and pav bhaji. the south indian fare (uttappam, dosas) were good as well. service was friendly and attentive which was great since a lot of budget indian restaurants tend to have miserable service. would recommend for anyone looking for decent indian food around ft. lauderdale. we went twice in 3 days and werent disappointed on either occasion.

The food here is pretty good although the service is sometimes mixed. Also, the atmosphere is borderline. My girlfriend and I usually get a thali and it's enough for two people. I would go here strictly for the food especially if you like South Indian food or vegetarian food.

  • Eric H.

I am not a vegetarian but I don't feel as though I'm missing anything when I eat here. The food is always very flavorful and amazingly inexpensive. We eat there 2 to 3 times a month usually during the week as it makes a nice inexpensive break during the work week. I only wish that they had beer, beacuse all of their recipes would go great with a cold one.

  • Amit M.

The menu is decent, but the chef could use better recipes and an imagination when it comes to laying out the buffet. A mark of a good South Indian restaurant is its sambhar and coconut chutney. And Woodlands has never made a decent sambar/chutney to go with their idlis and dosas. Pros: Friendly enough management Nice dosas and coffee. Cons: Specialty dishes like Malabar Adai taste nothing like how it should. No ambience. Average buffet

Excellent food! We had the northern indian thali, a dosa (gorgeous and tasty), rasam soup, and a vege curry. well seasoned, well prepared. i grew up on indian food in nyc, and this place is better than many ny restaurants. satisfying even if you are not strictly vegetarian. oh, good service too. and the bollywood music videos in the background provided ambience. and a good sign of authenticity that Indian families were dining there!

    - The buffet appears to be their main business, so go when they're busy for the best food. (This is how buffets work.) - Order a la carte as we did and they may fetch some of your food from the buffet, as we witnessed. - The dosa portion control is insane

I was driving down University yesterday, Hungry. Out came the phone and I searched Vegan. Woodlands popped and I was less than a block away. Love the place. I opted for the buffet. Tried everything. Only complaint is, my stomach became full and I could eat another bite. I ate alone that day, but anyone that wants to meet there for lunch, Im all in. See you there.

Food and service was great. We ordered gobi manchurian, masala dosa and Hakka noodles. For dessert we had falooda. The only down side was seeing a bug in the bathroom and the restaurant was pretty warm.

Went there on a Saturday and had the lunch buffet and it was amazing! its $9.99 on weekdays and $13.95 on weekends. Pretty good pricing. The food is vegetarian but still very yummy. The selection was good: palek paneer and chana masala were my favorites. The unlimited mango lassi is an amazing deal. The dosai with potato filling was to die for. Service was awfully nice and the food is authentic tasting. Definitely coming back!!

  • Sherry W.

I went for the weekday lunch buffet $9.95. The service was excellent. They brought me a pitcher of water and cleared plates immediately. they also brought me a crepe with the potato and onion filling. It was super tasty because they coated the outside with oil/butter. The buffet had a good variety of vegetarian only dishes. This is a Southern Indian restaurant. None of the food was spicy like I have had at other Indian restaurants. They had many chutneys on the buffet. Their naan is the best I have experienced because it too had oil on it. Most of the dishes had no beans in them, only veggies. The soup was spicy, but was just broth with little black seeds in it. The food name was above each item, but with no description. For someone new to Indian food (like me), a description would be helpful. The restaurant had many Indian people dining in it, which is always a good sign. It is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking in the attached parking lot. The buffet also had tea on it. With so many other Indian places in Broward, I wouldn't rush back here. So far my favorite buffet is Bombay Café on Andrews/Oakland. I guess I like meat in my dishes!

We think Woodlands deserves 3 1/2 stars instead of 4 but there are no half stars from which to rate it so I bumped it up to 4! Tonight we ordered a large order to go and while their food is very good - some dishes really, really good - the leftovers will more than satisfy cravings for months to come. The pics will help to describe our order. Appetizer: A combination of fried veggie 'balls', battered and fried hot peppers, fried mounds of potato and peas, etc. The appetizer is good but I wish the food wasn't fried - except for idli, a steamed bread, their appetizers are breaded or battered and fried. Entrees: Dal Malkhani, a creamy kidney bean and lentil dish, and a side of rice Gobi Manchurian Dry, lightly breaded cauliflower florets in a slightly sweet sauce with scallions Paneer Chili Dry, a saute of onions and peppers with slices of freshly made cheese in a slightly sweet ginger and chili sauce Bread: Onion Naan Chili Kulcha ( a fiery bread of chili peppers, cilantro and spices) Paneer Kulcha ( a bread of cheese, cilantro and spice) Each bread and entree dish was delicious and deserving of being ordered in the future. Dessert: Carrot Halwa (grated carrots with honey, butter, and nuts) Rice pudding with yellow raisins and nut garnish I used to love their halwa but the carrots are not smooth - they are chopped so it seems like a veggie side dish more than a smooth, sweet carrot dessert. Hubby said the rice pudding was not great but ok. He liked the raisins and the taste of the cream, but said it needed more cinnamon. I tasted it and the cream was thin so the rice was separate from the cream and it tasted like a sweet rice soup instead of a pudding. We have every single item left over! We ordered when we were starving, assumed we'd each have another dinner out of it, and I'm betting we have two more dinners each. We are meat eaters but we don't miss the meat when we eat their food because it's rich and varied in texture and flavor. Overall, if you want Indian food this is a great restaurant. The food is hotter and crisper when we eat at the restaurant but they take care in packing their to-go orders so we can enjoy it at home too.

They have a wide variety of south Indian dishes. Food was okay, but not as good as it could be. To be fair, the dosas were decent. However, the chutney for the dosa was like the cook added lentils to make it thicker so they could skimp on the coconut. The tomato chutney wasn't bad. The dahi wada was okay too. Wadas were thick but edible. At $20+ their thali was overpriced for the taste. If this was the only South Indian place around, I would have to go to it. But if I had a choice, I would drive a little farther to get there. Oh yeah, the guy next to me ordered the Falooda and said the whipped cream (who does whipped cream on Faloodas in India?!) messed up the dessert, but the Falooda was, according to him, "okay for here" but was nowhere near what it should be. Who adds an insulting cherry to the insult of whipped cream on a Falooda?? (The remaining has nothing to with food, but just general business practice and the above may have been influenced by this (you think?)) They charged us-- a party of four adults, one child, and one toddler--an automatic gratuity because we were six heads, therefore, qualified for their six-person automatic gratuity policy. When my brother-in-law paid, they took him for an added tip without pointing out the automatic gratuity. That is just low. A gracious "we charged gratuity, sir" would've kept them on our contact list. If they were in India, they'd probably have lost several storefronts by now. They should be grateful they live in the United States. But in Florida mediocre food and questionable accounting can get you decent stars...must be the cloudy skies because the folks that have reviewed this place haven't seen real stars (or eaten good south Indian food in a reputable place) in a very long time.

Good South Indian & Indian Chinese food. Liked their chili garlic noodles and chili paneer. Sambar & coconut chutney are ok, but dosas are really good.

Great place for a quick, tasty and maybe healthy lunch. I can't say I've ever had southern Indian food before but it is delicious. I can't tell you what I ate but it was all very good. If you are not vegetarian don't let it stop you from trying the food. It is all a nice change from your typical food

This is a great place for vegetarians. It's right up the street from Chillies Indian Restaurant and has much better flavors. The only thing I miss is the lack of TVs with Bollywood on them. Maybe thats weird to some, but I love an Indian experience that exposes me to their entertainment as well! I feel like I'm 90% sure that these guys are the same people that own Udipi Indian Restaurant in Plantation/Ft Lauderdale. I could be wrong. This is general and good indian food. It's isn't the most home made I have ever had, but if you've eaten good indian food before, you will be happy with this. If you have never had good Indian food before, you will be blown away! The gobi manchurian is good, dal Takda is kind of like really good lentil soup and the chenna masala is good. The garlic naan was really good. The service is very attentive here. They waste no time in serving you yet also do not make you feel rushed. They were training someone new that night and I felt bad because you coudl tell that they were watching him like a hawk. The bathrooms could be a little cleaner but they were nothing too offensive.

I've eaten here a number times and Im averaging the scores of the buffet(5) and dinner(3). Buffet is very good and they do a great job of restocking what is low quickly. This is their busiest time of the day for good reason. Different variety of curries and vegetables. Surprisingly there aren't as many bean based dishes as expected from a vegetarian based reaturant, but I might just be unable to chance upon them yet. Dinner a la carte portions are not as generous (single portions to the letter), but overall very good. Dosa is what I would suggest as it is packed with different vegetables and comes in a large portion compared to the other dishea. Paneer curries, such as paneer palak, have a generous amount of paneer(then again the dishes are very small overall). The reason I'm not very high on the dinner is how my food was handeled. Server had their thumb touching the basmati and curries when handling our dish a few times(I scooped out that part of course). On the same note, the table decor was nice and sofisticated-like, but I generally don't like the inside of my napkins being touched by others(guess im weird like that). Overall a great vegetarian resturant that won't weigh too heavily on you afterwards, but employees need a refresher course on food handling.

The food at Woodlands is honestly the best South Indian food I have ever tasted... And I'm Indian. When we got there we were quickly seated and ready to go. The vada was amazing, and the sambhar that went along with it made the whole meal complete. To drink I got a Mango Lussi. The drink was not too sweet, as most places make their drinks too sweet. For my actual meal I got a special rava dosa. It was the best dosa I've had in my life. It was crunchy perfection. I am definitely coming back again.

This is a place that we never would have thought to try,had it not been recommended to us by friends. I am so glad they picked this place when we all went out for dinner the other night. They're vegans, and we're not. We were worried about not feeling full with the lack of meat, and we were pleasantly surprised at how satiated we were at the end of the meal. The variety was amazing, and the spices were fantastic. I've never had such flavorful food! The only thing I didn't like about this place was at the end of the meal, the server came over and politely asked us to leave because they were closing soon. There were still many tables around us that were still eating, and we had just finished our dessert. Other than that minor bit, everything else was amazing! We can't wait to go back!

I'm not a vegetarian, but I absolutely love the food at Woodlands! I've only ever been here for the buffet in the afternoon, which is a great way to try a little bit of everything. They have a nice mix of mild and spicy dishes, and EVERYTHING is good. The tikka masala, dosas, and naan are my favorite, and I love that I can drink as much mango lassi as I want;) The service is also very good. there is always someone there to take dishes away or to bring more dosas to the table. And it's very convenient that they give you large metal dishes(keeps hot foot hot and cold food cold) so that you don't have to keep going up and getting new plates. If this was closer to me I'd go every week!

Great vegetarian Indian restaurant. Food delicious and service attentive. They have an extensive menu of Dosa varieties which are giant round crepes with a filling inside We had one for an appetizer. We also had panak peneer and a vegetable tika masala that were delicious, and garlic naan that was also great. All first rate.

This restaurant is fully vegetarian. The dishes are very tasty and portions are very generous. I truly loved my meal especially the garlic naan. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food came out rather fast. Only complaint is the sharing charge for some of the desserts otherwise this is a Great place. Will be coming back to try the buffet. Note: buffet is only for lunch.

Amazing food. By far the best Indian food I have ever had - and its vegetarian. I was concerned that I would have to compromise without meat, but I found out that it's possible to have amazing vegetarian food. Gobi manchurian was amazing. Paneer tikka was amazing. 100 % success on all dishes ordered. Highest recommendation.

The service is the best I've ever experienced. Other restaurants could take lessons from this place! The dining room is clean and the decor is good. The buffet has the various foods labeled to identify the dishes by name but unfortunately the ingredients are not listed. The food is good but lacking in distinctive flavors. A combination of dishes do not meld well and must are spicy. All in all I would recommend it.

Good buffet as usual, but make sure you arrive before 2pm. They close promptly at 3 and do not refresh the buffet after 2:30 unless you ask for something to be refreshed and they will gladly do so. The hot tea is wonderful.

After seeing the movie "The 100 Ft. Journey", my husband and I left craving Indian food, which, we have had before in Coral Gables and thought it was pretty awful. However, we decided to give it another try. Thank you Yelp for this recommendation. The first time there our server, Anise (?), was amazing, he placed the order for us and we were truly surprised at how good everything tasted. We had the red curry kidney and lentil stew, with the best naan bread we have ever had. We had the crepes stuffed with potatoes, truly good, filling and very tasty food. The dessert...oh my goodness, these cheese dumplings in a syrup made with condensed milk and rose water WOW!. The halwai made with almonds was truly a culinary experience. At every taste and every bite, my husband, who is the world's worst food critic, kept saying "awesome". The chai tea is heaven in a cup. Since then we have gone back and have tried the dosai, with cheese and a potato pancake with peas and onions, both were very good. This place is truly an experience to your palate and olfactory senses, to be truly enjoyed. Don't be afraid to ask the server for help with the menu and it is in a shopping mall. Twice we have driven by not noticing we were there.

I ate at after-buffet hours. Pros: Great taste Cons: rip-off portioning!!--big price and small platters which accomadate only a small amount of food that is below a standard size. Also, be aware of the timing by calling the place. I had to wait an hour since it was closed for two hours in the afternoon before reopening. I would have given it two stars had it tasted terrible.

This place is pretty awesome. I'm not even a vegetarian or would ever want to be one, but this place changes the idea of vegetarian food not being any good. The dosai is amazing, the samosas are amazing, and so is the ghobi manchuria... not sure if that's how it is properly spelled. Anyways, this place is pretty awesome for either the buffet or the dinner. I've been to both.

I was very impressed with Woodlands. I went for dinner with my Indo-Guyanese, and Sri Lankan coworkers. Tried the Gobi Manchurian, it was very good. I am a big cauliflower fan, but this was like nothing I have had before. It was more oriental inspired and was almost like eating a Cantonese sweet & sour meat entree, it tasted that good. Also tried the vegetable samosa appetizer, very flaky crust and delicious potato & peas filling. Garlic Naan was fantastic, lots of herbs and garlic on cripsy Tandoori bread. Mango milk shake was creamy and incredibly "mangoee" like drinking mango candy. Aloo Palak was very delicious potato and spinach with the overriding indian spice of nutmeg, it gave it a hint of sweetness, almost a pumpkin like flavor. My Guyanese friends turned me on to Roti ages ago, so I loved the Paper Masala Dosai, it is similar, but different than Roti, and the potato filling was excellent. The 2 guys at the front (both with glasses) were very friendly & welcoming. Place was absolutely packed, the wait staff was not Indian. I have heard the old staff has since gone back to India : ( Overall I loved the vegetarian food, and will always welcome the chance to eat vegan, but I need alot of flavors and spices to my food, and Woodlands definitely provides alot of Indian spices, herbs, and amazing flavors to each and every dish I have tried. Will positively return.

I went with my boyfriend to woodlands for the 9.95 buffet. He was a bit skeptical since it was all vegetarian. However, we ended up loving everything. All the food was yummy and they even brought out an appetizer free of charge. I highly recommend going vegetarian or not.

The food here is really good. The portion sizes are decent. The waiters are professional. The mango lassi is really really good!! Order it! The garlic naan is great. If you order the onion naan, make sure you really like onion because it has a lot of onions on it. The kolocha was good. The paneer tikka Masala was good however I've had better. The palak paneer and the special vegetable curry were both very good. I would recommend this restaurant. There are so many things to choose from and everything looks great.

So you think that a vegetarian meal cannot possibly fill you up? If so, you'd find yourself to be proven wrong, and pleasantly surprised, at The Woodlands. Unlike most Indian buffets that may have 5-6 selections of vegetables, (if you're lucky), here you will find the entire buffet is vegetarian, with probably 10 different selections, if not more. Another nice touch? The mango lassi and chai tea, also found at the buffet table, which means you can serve yourself as much of these as you'd like. You can find everything from chick peas to soups, to naan and other choices. The food was well-seasoned and spicy. I wasn't a fan of the vegetables in a white sauce, which were very salty, but I loved the okra with mushrooms and went back for seconds. Among our table, that particular dish seemed to be the favorite choice. I wish I had taken pictures, but I left my cellphone in my car and I was too lazy to go back to get it. The buffet ran us about $11.00 each (I am not sure why it was $11, since most people here are saying they paid $8 or so, I guess prices have just gone up?). I wish we had a place like this in Miami-Dade, as it's rather far for us Miami-Dade County residents...

Woodlands is my favorite vegetarian restaurant. They also have a lot vegan dishes available. I often go for the Saturday Buffet in which you also get a complementary masala dosa. The a-la carte menu is available at all time. I remember ordering a Chole Bhatura one time, and they had the biggest Bhatura i have ever ate at an Indian restaurant before, but i ate it all ! They have great qualtiy food, the only reason i did not give them 5 stars is because the decor is a little outdated and good use some work. Other then that they have a fantastic food and it's definitely better then Indian Chillies which is across the street!

Oh man do I love Woodlands. Dinner is great with the combination appetizer platter with samosas, lentil donuts and other delicious sauces. My go to is the combination appetizer platter with samosas, lentil donuts and an array of delicious sauces, Gobi Manchurian (dry) (absolutely phenomenal and a dish that I haven't seen on the menus of many Indian restaurants in the area.), and Samosa Chaat. The buffet is also great if you come before 3.

They gave us our food and didn't check on us once...finally after being done eating for at least 15 minuets someone came over to see if we wanted to go boxes... There's plenty of other Indian restaurants around with great food, great service and nicer ambience! Won't be going back

Food is excellent here . Particularly the buffet on weekends . Very lavish spread for a very reasonable price . Cant beat the unlimited Mango shake and Chai . Food was fresh , piping hot and correctly seasoned . Nice ambiance with plenty of parking . There is a good Indian grocery store next to it if you need to fill up on Indian groceries . Its a bit of a hike from Miami but well worth the drive . you will not be dissapointed

Woodlands is delicious South Indian vegetarian food. I like ordering off the menu more than the buffet. We had the rava dosa which was delicious and crispy.

  • Mark G.

I love this lunch buffet and the staff is so nice. They have tons of vegan options and they label them clearly which I really like. I love the lentil donut and it's right next to an awesome namaste grocery store! Def worth checking out! Yum!

Woodlands was a pretty good choice. The sambar was excellent as was the tomato chutney. I ordered the paneer dosa and it was just a little bit cheesy. The waiter was friendly and the service was good. Overall Woodlands was very good.

  • Jer S.

Just went last night...first time and I was not impressed. Food was good but the ambience and service was lousy!!!!

Te restaurant was almost empty, we sat at a table of or choosing but the waiter wanted us to sit on a smaller table, then we were rushed cause they close at 3 pm, we were not even finished , waiter reminded us with the bill we had to leave. not good

  • Kerrie M.

Very good indian vegetarian restaurant. Their veg buffet is really good. Malai kofta curry and Gulab jamoon are our favorites

It's a hit or miss place. They have changed management. The food is not bad. If you are a vegetarian, this has a good deal for lunch. It is usually good during Indian holidays.

  • Ruchi S.

  • Srini M.

good service, good food ! for a south indian restaurant, the best dishes turned out to be gobi manchurian (dry, as an appetizer) and pav bhaji. the south indian fare (uttappam, dosas) were good as well. service was friendly and attentive which was great since a lot of budget indian restaurants tend to have miserable service. would recommend for anyone looking for decent indian food around ft. lauderdale. we went twice in 3 days and werent disappointed on either occasion.
