There are way better burrito places! The girl at the counter added a bunch of other veggies to my tostado salad and still it was unimpressive. The dressing tasted weird and the lettuce was iceberg :-/ if they want to survive the area they need to step up!

We ate lunch at Azteca today and it was great. Very fresh, made to order and extremely friendly atmosphere. I ordered taquitos, rice and black beans, it was super. My husband had chicken quesadillas which were very large. He asked for habanero sauce and while there was a selection os additional spices out (;pico de galo, cabbage, peppers, etc) th waitress brought him some very hot habanero sause from the kitchen. Good value and good food. Really enjoyed the food, you should give it a try.

Our new favorite place! The food is as fresh as it gets, the restaurant is super clean and the staff is so accommodating & friendly! If you like Zona Fresca youll love Azteca Laud by the Sea. The price is right too, a couple can eat for under $20.

Yum yum yum is all I can say. I had the taco salad with steak and it melted in my mouth! It is so so savory. My friend had the chicken chicharones with rice beans and sweet plantains and she licked the plate! (Not really) but she didn't leave a crumb. Will be back again

Mediocre "Mexican" food at best. Ordered the taco platter and chips and salsa for carry-out. Got back to the hotel and realized they didn't include the rice and beans. So we paid almost $23 for 4 tacos, tortilla chips and a half cup of tasteless salsa. The taco shells reminded me of the Old El Paso or Ortega shells I buy at the grocery store. Tortilla chips definitely came from a bag as well. Nothing tasted horrible, but it was boring and certainly not worth the money.

Eh I Would Not Eat Here Again... Ever! I have never left a bad review, But I cannot help myself. Bad Food, Low Quality not at all authentic Mexican. The Owner/Manager Sat at the Little Bar (the entire time I TRIED to enjoy my food) Talking VERY LOUDLY on his Cell Phone. At one point when I 1st came into I smiled at him and he looked at me with daggers in his eyes! I believe he is in Real Trouble. The ONLY thing this Dump has going for it is the two very nice waitresses! I hope they find a nice place to utilize their Skills I took leftovers out but I just threw them in a Trash Can...

We must have visited a different restaurant than everyone else because we were very disappointed. Cheese Whiz on nachos, confusing menu, and in the middle of the day yesterday, no one but us there. I bet that this excuse for a mexican restaurant does not survive long. In defense of the place, the manager did come over and ask if everything was ok...I nodded because i did not want to create a confrontation. Appeared to be very clean and nice, but all doors were open on a hot day..saving on a/c?

This place is far from authentic. We ordered the nachos and they were equivalent to Taco Bell. Burrito was nothing special. I'll give it two stars because the margarita wasn't bad.

My wife and I are in town for one night and went down to the pier. It was a zoo so we went to Azteca Fresh Mexican Grill and we're very pleasantly surprised. Had the best fish tacos I've had in a long time. Service was great -- highly recommended! We're going back for sure -- an excellent value!!! Rich S Alexandria, MN

Azteca, a chain restaurant, has one of its newest locations vying for the tourist dollars on the southeast corner of Commercial and A1A in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. It's a good sized restaurant with entrance access both from Commercial and A1A. Like most new chains, the colors are bright, the establishment clean and well organized but with that sort of with that typical chainy sterile ambiance about it. The menu, as expected is well thought out with four "Signature" dishes of coconut fish, Salsa fish, grilled fish Veracruz plus a shrimp and coconut. They also have a good selection of some eight salads and soups, nine choices of burritos, about four of what they term traditionals which includes a special "House Chili," but surprisingly only two tacos being beer battered fish or a choice of a rather steak or chicken all only offered in a soft tortilla with rice and choice of bean. As a surprise for a chain they had a special of the day being crab nachos which I selected. It came served with the plate heaping full, exceedingly well prepared but I would say in a style more "Americano" than anything I've ever seen in Mexico. Indeed in eyeballing the dishes of other patrons, it's rather obvious that there isn't any intent toward what may be Mexican authentic, but clearly all Americanized take offs which isn't meant to be any sort of a put down because the Americans have taken many the foundations of Mexican foods as well as styles of preparation which in my opinion are, instead of being some compromise, are in fact a specific style all of there own and in many cases superior to the culinary dishes from which they originated. They also have the traditional salsa bar, all with fresh tasty ingredients but somewhat more limited than found in most competitive Mexican chains. The staff is friendly, polite and helpful. Unlike most such chains the staff actually takes their time to be sure that they get your order correct and, if necessary, offer any help you may need. One oustanding thing about Azteca is the price. For the most part you can get a decent meal for aournd $10.00 and the meals you get all seem to represent one of the best "bangs for the buck" to be found.

We were here for a vacation recently and this was the first place we stopped into. The margaritas and burritos were excellent. What a cool spot so close to the water and right in the middle of the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea central area.

Service was a little slow but the food was excellent as well as the waitstaff. I ordered the Azteca enchilada in which you could taste the fresh seafood. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating, she rushed to get us beers right at the end of happy hour and was extremely pleasant. It's a nice location and I recommend sitting out side to people watch and look at the expensive cars riding by.

I wish I would have read the reviews BEFORE stepping into this place. First let me say the only good thing about this restaurant: the waitress was nice. We suspected we were in for a bad experience when we ordered the chips and cheese to start off. Instead of the typical melted Monterey Jack or other white cheese that you normally get at most Mexican restaurants (which my children like to snack on while we wait for our entrees), out came a small dish of room temperature bright orange nacho "cheese". The kind that comes in a can and is served at the ballpark, except this had even less flavor. My kids ordered the kids cheese quesadilla, my wife ordered a salad, and I ordered chili relleno. The quesadillas had very little cheese and were overcooked, hard and crunchy. They were served with beans and plain white steamed rice (not seasoned nothing added and wet and clumpy). My chili relleno was even worse. The pablanos were wet and soggy, not battered and fried as I'm used to. It was not served with any sauce at all, and the filling consisted of about two tablespoons of unseasoned ground beef and some cheddar cheese. I took two or three bites and couldn't eat any more. But my wife's salad was at least edible. Bagged salad mix with some grilled chicken on top. I actually felt bad that the waitress has to work there.

Everything tasted like a dirty fryer. Is there anything I could say to make up for that?

If I'm going to spend $12 on a burrito, it better be the best damn burrito I ever had. Unfortunately, I've had better burritos from Chipotle. I'm not saying it was bad.. everything was fresh.. it just wasn't $12 good. I would maybe be willing to pay $6 for what I received. I ordered a grilled fish burrito... they didn't really put much fish in it.. Coming from somebody who used to live in Southern California for several years... I know what Mexican food is, and this place doesn't serve it. If you're going to attempt to find a decent Mexican place in South Florida (almost non-existent!)... my recommendations are The Whole Enchilada , Lime Fresh , and Costa Azul. Don't go to Azteca.

Staff was very nice. However the food was bad. It seemed to be frozen foods that were microwaved and served up. I'm from the Southwest and I know good Mexican food. This was not even Mexican food. Check your bill carefully before paying. Both my meal and drink were over charged. I was told that the prices had been changed but the waitress did honor the prices as shown in menu (after I pointed out the discrepancy). A woman came in with her dog while I was eating. I found that strange but then I heard a dog bark from the kitchen area. Shortly after eating, both my husband and I had churning stomachs. The food was WAY over priced. Go to Taco Bell...at least it's fresh. I can't believe this place is still in business.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
