The Pros: They handled a large group efficiently and pleasantly. Nice strong margaritas and a huge selection. Attractive and comfortable restaurant and yummy chips. The Cons: Not too impressed with the quality of the food. Nothing tasted quite as good as I expected. Sad, but true.

Very good Mexican food and always friendly staff. I recommend their three meat parrillada! Not bad for two people. Portions are very generous so you'll definitely have left overs for lunch the next day. The queso is the only thing I would like for them to improve, it's very runny compared other ones I've tried but overall, I've always had a good dinner experience here, so check them out!

First time here. Son had ground beef tacos which were very good. Hubby had some dish with 35 shrimp that he remarked was good but hard to eat due to tails on shrimp and scalding hot. I had fajita's which the shrimp were done perfectly but all i got was green peppers and onions. For $18 entree kind of expected different colored peppers and some mushrooms. We shall return to try new items

Tapatio's is the place to go for quality Mexican food in Lakeland. I have visited this restaurant on multiple occasions over the last few years and have always had a good meal. There are two locations for this restaurant. This one is located on the south side of the city and the original is in the north side of the city. I prefer this location since it has a prettier décor, is larger, and cleaner. The quality of the food is the same at both locations. On my most recent visit I had the Enchiladas Supremas which included shredded chicken, ground beef, bean, and cheese enchiladas. The enchiladas were very flavorful. The chicken was tender and the beef was nicely seasoned. The enchiladas were topped with a flavorful enchilada sauce, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole. The complimentary chips and salsa were also very good. The mild salsa was homemade and had a fresh tomato flavor. The spicy salsa had a nice kick and flavor and wasn't overly spicy. On a previous occasion I also tried the Steak Tampiqueno, a beef steak stuffed with pork tips and bacon. It was just as good as it sounded. Juicy, tender, and topped with a tomato like ranchero sauce which gave the dish a nice saltiness and light kick. The sauce complimented the flavors of the three meats perfectly. Every meal I have eaten at Tapatio's has also been filling and I have never left the restaurant hungry.

Fresh and authentic!!! Tacos are the way to go!!! My child devoured his chicken quesadilla that was stuffed with meat! I liked the charro beans more than the refried, they have an amazing smokiness! Service is quick and the salsa tasty!!!

We go here at least once a month as it is right down the road from our house. Everytime we go we're seated right away, chips and salsa are brought out right away and orders are taken promptly. The food comes out fairly quick and it's fantastic. Prices are really good as well and the menu is huge. They also have a nice sized a-la-carte menu for people (like me) who don't eat enough to warrant a huge platter of food. They also have pretty decent margaritas and cheap pitchers of Modelo and Dos Equis.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Rolling my tongue on the good eats. Visited recently and the service was attentive and super fast. Free chips and salsa always good---there are 2 different kinds, one mild and one just slightly kicked up salsa----I mixed them and it was delightful. I love horchata. I love that there are free refills on horchata! This is not the case in a lot of other similar types of restaurants. Horchata makes me smile. On to the food, I was with the brother and we decided to sample a few different dishes to share----we had the 3-taco plate (Lengua, Carne Asada, and Al Pastor), the Milanesa (beef), and the Steak Tampequeno. I like that we were able to pick different kinds and not get all 3 of the same kind to sample for the 3-taco plate. One thing that would have been nice was if you could get a single taco----it wasn't on the menu, but then again I didn't ask---so just putting that out there. We opted for the traditional onions and cilantro topping and they were super tasty. I especially liked the Lengua---the tongue literally felt like it melted on my tongue---I know sounds strange----have to taste it to appreciate it! Did I mention the food came out super fast? Piping hot, fresh, and ridiculously fast! The Milanesa was basically like a country fried steak, but Mexican style. The meat was more tender than what I was expecting---the meat definitely got a really good pounding.. It came with French fries, rice, and a salad. Surprisingly the fries were really good too---definitely not something you would expect. Now for the steak tampequeno------pork tips wrapped in beef steak and then further wrapped in bacon---meat sweats here I come! The pork was flavored so well and again very tender, easy to cut, and I wish I had more. Wrapped in bacon--can't go wrong with bacon! Upon paying, I loved that the cashier (who appeared to be the manager), took the time to see what we ordered, asked us how our food was, and then proceeded to offer suggestions of other menu items for a future visit-----items that I didn't even know they had like menudo and carne en su jugo---and these are available everyday--not just on the weekend!!!! Kudos for the non-pushy future upsell!

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Lakeland. The staff is amazing, and very attentive. The chips and salsa is really really delicious. We have had several items off the menu, and have never been unhappy with the food. Anything your order is delicious. They are great with our kids, and will custom make a taco or quesdilla for my picky little eaters without hesitation. They pay attention to the details to make sure you are relaxed and enjoying your time time at their restaurant.

We recently used Tapatio's to cater an event for 150 people. Everyone raved about the food! Of course we knew it was delicious to begin with, that's why we chose them :) We ordered the chicken and steak fajita dinners, which also came with salsa, chips, the tres leche cake and churros. The price we were quoted was reasonable and included delivery. The people delivering the food were very professional, and the catering lady I worked with was absolutely awesome! We were very pleased and would use them to cater a large event again.

I've found my go to Mexican restaurant in Lakeland. This place was really great. The salsa was out of this world, and the chicken enchilada was hands down the best I've ever eaten. If the crunchy chicken tacos had been as good as they were at my go to place in virginia they would be an easy 5 stars. And honestly if I could give them 4.5 stars I would! Service was great as well.

Great food, good service, good price! Highly recommend it! Authentic Mexican food also, wasn't expecting to find a place like this in Lakeland.

Disappointed this time around. Chicken enchiladas were dry and margarita was wayyy to sweet! They've lost their touch, I think Abuelo's has them beat now.

Tapatios used to be REALLY killer, and I mean they were slammin' on Saturdays with the mariachis, etc.; great food, salsa, and vibe. They are still great and a great value, but I get the feeling times are tight right now? C'mon folks, support this restaurant!

I went last night with two friends. I have eaten at this location about eight times and always been pleased with the food and service, especially the service. The servers are prompt and know the menu. They have no problem making substitutions. The food is typical Tex Mex. I personally give the food rating a 3 star, but service has always been great. I ordered the fish tacos. The tasted fine and cooked perfectly. Everything was soft though, no texture contrast. Some chipotle cole slaw would have been nice.

We've been to Tapatio's several times, but never thought we got more than average Mexican food.

Great food, full of flavor, very nice menu selections. Lots of house specialties, I had the Tapatio Enchiladas, shredded beef with Verde sauce and the pork tamale. Both were excellent. The salsa mild, but the guacamole is good. Service was good, all the diners seemed happy with their food, which looked delicious. We'll be back the next time we are in Lakeland.

service was great, food was good, not great but very good, way better than your traditional run of mill Mexican joint, The menu has lots of options from standard tacos , burritos and enchiladas to some more exotic sea choices and mole dishes. My only complaint is that the hot salsa was heavy on raw garlic nut the mild was fine. I would come back

This is about as good as it gets in Lakeland, at least until we get Rick Bayless to open up a Frontera down here. This store is a sister to the one on Memorial. It's newer, roomier, and the service is excellent. I've never had a bad meal here. My favorite is the chile verde stew, which is lovely pork chunks browned and stewed in their tomatillo sauce. Fish (huachinango a la Veracruzana), enchiladas, and the fajitas (several varieties) are very nice as well. Wish they had more Mexican dishes like caldo de puerco, chalupas, etc., but they do well on the items they have, so no complaining. On weekends they have mariachis, which makes it fun. Visit their tienda next door, stock up on Mexican goodies.

Tapatios opened with five Guadalaharan brothers. This newer store on the southside is brightly colored with giant wall murals and stoned archways. There's not a bad food item on the menu. Service is quick and the waitresses are dressed in Mexican "party dresses". The complimentary chips and salsa are great (though I like more heat to the salsa-they do provide a verde sauce to mix with it and increase the heat). They make a great chili relleno with cheese. Their macho burrito is giant-sized. Enchiladas yum. Unfortunately we're always too full to try the desserts but sopapillas and flan and others are available. It's nice to do "authentic' Mexican in a clean spacious "fiesta" environment!

I love Mexican food (TexMex). I had the combo platter ($8.75) w/beef taco and beef enchilada: it's served w rice and beans. The taco was over-sized and delicious. The beef enchilada had a sauce that was VERY tasty. Service was excellent as was the Margarita. A lot of food. Great experience. Now it will be my go to place for TexMex.

Tonight was our first time and we will be coming back. The food was very good and the service was good as well. We had a sweet young gal named anaLaura i believe and she made sure our drinks stayed full and was sweet til the end. There was a band and it was very busy but enjoyable. We will be back next time with our the kids so I may have a margarita.

Good Mexican restaurant, we usually get the mixed grill, which is great for 2 to share! The pitcher of margaritas or daquiris are a good option as well.

I've eaten here enough times to finally stop listening to all the people who I've eaten here with in the past's voices of praise in my head to stop. I've given it plenty of opportunities; and went with a different group last weekend and finally settled that it's about time I leave a review. Go ahead and read my review for Peso's. It's a damn down right dirty shame that; that restaurant wasn't owned by authentic legitimate Mexican people, and hey got such a bad rep for being Columbian owners and not "authentic" Mexican; and Tapatios received favor because of that. Now Peso's doors are closed for good and it's perplexing why Tapatios has two locations; when Peso's in it's prime had 3. The fact is the food at Tapatios; compared to other several other Mexican restaurants I've eaten at is incredibly tasteless and bland. I've ordered different things from here and it's been the most boring palleted food I've ever eaten. The cheese they drench on the chimichanga is so watered down and flavorless that my tastebuds are screaming and scratching for something to explain what is happening to them. This is a problem. The cheese on the chimi is tasteless and it makes the fried tortilla soggy. They fill it with beef that tastes like powder. It's disgusting. Tapatios serves the absolute worst chimichanga I've ever eaten. I ordered a quesadilla there once. The same; milky watered down cheese is in it. there's no substance to it. My meat pooled out of the tortilla. I was pissed they thought that was acceptable to leave the kitchen. Last friday I ordered Tacos, and the chimi (I'm a glutton for punishment). The pork was dry; and I found out I could have had the seasoned pork from someone I was eating with. I wasnt given this as a choice by the waiter. This falls into my "wait staff should be knowledgeable about their menu and specials" thing. My girlfriend got the beef queso, which was light on the watered down cheese and heavy on the powdered beef. Our drinks were kept up on. Happy hour there is lame. No margarita specials. 2 dollar dos equis and modelo? Yeah. Ok. I dont really go to Mexican restaurants for beer. The chips here are decent. The red sauce is good. The green sauce is really spicy. I dont go to Mexican restaurants for the chips. Who does? I cant get over how awful the cheese is there. I cant even to begin to figure out what the hell it really is. It's certainly something watered down. No cheese is actually fucking soup. One of the people in our group had a hair in their meal. She didnt want a replacement plate, and it was credited to her check. But really, after as many times as I've eaten there; I wouldnt want them to replace it. The odds of it tasting any good are slim as hell. The menu is a disaster. Go to the Taco's section. There is a photo of 5 tacos; and under it...is a Three taco meal. No where is there 5 tacos. The other thing? The three tacos are listed twice on the menu; with different prices; and it's not a "lunch/dinner" difference thing. With that out of the way; the menu is confusing. It's really hard to figure anything out. Pictures help with the most confusing plates I guess; and they dont with the tacos; but I'd be hard pressed to believe anything comes out like their photos. I can only imagine how they'd make a chimi look on their menu. It's probably the single most confusing menu I've ever laid eyes on. There's too much going on at once. So here's the thing. I dont like this restaurant. I think it's awful. You're welcome to eat here as much as you like; but I certainly dont recommend it. What I do recommend was Peso's; but also Azteca in Winter Haven. I hope Tapatio's claws dont reach WH and close the most decent Mexican restaurant I've eaten at since Peso's closed. Screw this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
