If you eat here, show up HUNGRY. My co-worker and I are big eaters, ordered lunch portions of pulled pork (plus salad bar to keep the wives and doctors "happy") and we still walked out stuffed. The food is good, but neither of is is a barbecue expert. The place is definitely no-frills on the decor, and the waitress we had was very business-like. Not unfriendly, just... not very conversational. We will be eating here later in the week... for dinner next time. We will be sure to bring bigger appetites.

This was the dirtiest place to eat in Lakeland Tile floor was so greasy you couldn't walk with out slipping the rug area was stained and had food in it. Tables were sticky PS food and service was good Just a dirty place to eat

Maybe I am a Texan but I love this place. Cheap eats and lots of seats and plenty of room to munch can't get any better. I love the pork here; this is some delicious, tender, smoky, meaty goodness. And the staffs here are great too. . You should get yourself some. If you're close by, I'll be back!.

It's what I consider a typical chain restaurant to be. Not horrible, not fantastic. Reasonable prices. Never order kids chicken fingers- take forever to cook for some reason every time! Their BBQ is rather dried out so be prepared to add lots of sauce. Decent but not fantastic service. Solid 3.

Day one of "find some BBQ in Polk County" took us to Sonny's. We walked in blind, no Yelp reviews guiding us. Service was certainly friendly, if a little odd. It was Superbowl Sunday, though the game itself was hours away. Still, they were apparently hit hard and fast during the early lunch hour, so there was lots of cleaning going on by the time we arrived. Let me state that I'm emphatically pro-cleaning in any restaurant (yay chemicals). But even I was a bit put off by the vacuuming up and down the aisle where all four tables of customers were currently sitting. Really? The food here was just okay. Honestly, what they mostly have going for them is their sides. I thought the corn bread was delicious. It's of the sweet, not savory, variety, and that's just fine by me. I had said yes to the offer of "cinnamon butter," but what arrived was some Country Crock margarine spread. I would certainly pass on that in the future. You just can't use the term "butter" interchangeably like that (boo chemicals). Have some respect for the cows. Their beans were also quite good, with lots of little pork bits throughout. The baked sweet potato was insanely soft and delicious, even if I did ruin it with that God awful Country Crock stuff. Seriously, smuggle in your own cinnamon and mix it with real butter, provided they have any. We split an order of "Sweet" wings, and they were quite good. Crispy, hot-out-of-the-kitchen, and the Sweet sauce was just right for the wings. If I were to go back to Sonny's, I would probably call it good with some wings, a sweet potato, and some corn bread. Those were by far the meal highlights. The Bud and I each ordered ribs. I ordered the sweet and smoky St. Louis style, while The Bud ordered the dry rub style. Both looked good when brought to the table. Their selection of sauces (Sweet, Mild, Sassy Sweet, and Hot) were all reasonable choices. It finally dawned on us we were in a chain restaurant when we tried the "Hot" and realized it was what we usually describe as "Corporate Hot." Sure you can taste some pepper, if you close your eyes and think really hard about it, but no one is tearing up, needing glass after glass of sweet tea, or more important, initiating law suits due to loss of taste buds. Frankly, if I can consume "Hot" without even blinking, it's a gross misnomer. So here we were, finally about to sink our teeth into the BBQ items, and they were a big let down. We had to wrestle the meat off those bones, using our teeth for all they were worth, gnawing and tearing and scraping. Thankfully we still have our own teeth with which to work. I'm not sure how anyone in the Polydent Club would be able to tackle these ribs, and well, that's a big part of the demographic here, isn't it?

I love Sonnys.. The big deal is a great deal! Our family loves the garlic toast and the selection of BBQ sauces on the table. Good pulled pork and my kids love the Mac and cheese. BUT this particular Sonnys needs to do some cleaning. This place is filthy!

My wife and I are NJ transplants and don't know much about BBQ. We have been going to Smokey Bones and love it, and decided to try Sonny's. While it wasn't awful, we won't be going back. We sat down right away, which was good. But the food was just not as tasty as other BBQ places, and was more expensive. Also the salad bar, which I was happy to see them have when we first came in, wasn't the best looking thing when I started loading up my plate.

The sweet bbq sauce (each table has four types on the table) is perfect. The ribs are hit-or-miss. I tried the all-you-can-eat ribs and my first plate was rather dry and definitely did not fall of the bone the way I would expect ribs to. The second portion, though, had a few ribs that were really tender and juicy (probably because they were more fatty than the other ribs) - tasty. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty. Service was EXCELLENT.

Bar- BORING- Q We went here a few days ago in April 2014. We were quickly sat at a booth and our waitress came quickly with our initial drinks of water. I ordered a plate of Beef Brisket ( Since there is no AUCE option) and a salad bar Salad bar was surprisingly good- many veggie options, cold salads, soup and desserts. The soup on my first round was out ( smelled like Clam Chowder) and had to wait until my waitress came by to tell her so. They do not seem to check the bar that often to refill, etc. They had some green jell-o/ cream/ pistachio old school dessert that was surprising delicious though! Beef Brisket took a really long time to come out considering how slow it was- and it consisted of 4-5 small slices that were absolutely DRY and tasted like leather. The only thing that made them decent was dousing it with sweet BBQ sauce to rehydrate. What a disappointment! My partner ordered the AUCE ( All you can eat ) pulled pork, corn and green beans. Again, took a while to get the first plate( the best), and every order there after took a ridiculous time (possibly deliberate). His third plate was most gristle- YUCK The waitress informed my partner that he could switch between any AUCE meat option as long it was the same price, same goes with the sides! So he switched to sliced pork on his second plate and it was mostly fat. The corn was bright yellow and fresh. The green beans were fresh green beans- not canned. Great side options. Overall, quite a disappointment. The side items and salad bar save this rating

Went 5/10.. The restaurant is being remodeled..as guests are eating. All of customers were lined up along on row of booths, while the rest of the restaurant is being worked on. It was loud and uncomfortable. We were rushed to order.. We ordered onion rings as an app.. it took forever to come out an they tasted like they were frozen and cooked way to fast. They were so nasty four left the basket and the rest stayed. My husband NEVER got a drink refill and neither did the children. The waitress never put in one of children's order so our three year sat there for ten minutes without food. The waitress didn't seem to care in the least. My husband got two tablespoons of cold disgusting baked beans. He asked for them to be heated.. He was reserved cold beans. He didn't touch them, because god alone does what happened to them in the back. His pulled pork was 90% fat and other odd looking things.. I ordered the big salad.. iceburg lettuce, frozen ready to eat chicken and a pound of croutons.. ICK. Why bother to serve something you are not going to make correctly?? We left hungry, frustrated, and vowing NEVER to go back. This has to be the WORST Sunny's in Florida.

A national consumer publication that vigorously protects its editorial independence recently rated Sonny's as one of the best Bar-B-Q restaurants in the nation. That was good enough for us to try Sonny's during a recent visit to Central Florida. That is an interesting claim because people tend to be passionate about BBQ. Just how good is a place carrying the banner of a national best? With high expectations, we ordered ribs and chicken. There were some seafood offerings on the menu, but why would anyone order fried shrimp at a BBQ restaurant? Simply, Sonny's is good, very good, and worth visiting. The ribs were perfect, the chicken was outstanding and the sauces were top-notch. I recommend the Sizzlin' Sweet sauce. If you are looking for some good BBQ, don't hesitate to stop at Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q. This one is a keeper.

The service was good, fast, and friendly, the tea was gigantic, and the salad bar was fresh and plentiful, which was exactly what I wanted. Others at my table received HUGE portions of barbecue and sandwiches that looked really good. All in all, a nice evening with the family where we were able to spread out and have some good food.

I've def had better bbq, but for the area, it was pretty good. Good sized ribs can be shared and the 1/2 chicken I shared was perfect for us. yummy accompanying sauces. Good cornbread, but it's still not Georgia.

Sonny's BBQ is a chain in the southeast with booth style "country" seating, quick service, several degrees of sauce choices, famous for its Texas toast option for sandwiches serves by the platter or by the item. It has a complete salad bar, too. Good flavor--competes well with other local BBQ's. (I'm partial to Rib Crib nearby.) Great catering service. (lousy website--takes forever to load)

I used to visit Florida every summer when I was a kid. My cousin used to live in Lakeland. He runs an independent Black Metal record label. One time, he had a one of his bands visiting (they were from Sweden). So imagine this: me (16 years old) with 5 dudes with Satanic imagery all over their black t-shirts roll into Sonny's. Sonny's ultraconservative clientele collectively give us a "WTF?" look. To their credit, they still served us some good BBQ. Good times.

Sonny's catered a rehearsal dinner for my brother's wedding. Good service as caterers, food was decent and there was ample warning about the "smokey" flavored sauce being hot. I liked mixing the sweet with the smokey. Meat selections were good, pulled pork was the better choice in my opinion. Not sure of the pricing but it didn't seem to be too expensive to feed 20 or so people.
